TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER EXT. WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN, THE MOISTURE SENSITIVE WIPER SYSTEM DID NOT DETECT MOISTURE. AS A RESULT, THE WIPERS STARTED TO MALFUNCTION AND OPERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V046000 (VISIBILITY/WPIER). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
DURING HIGH SPEEDS (INTERSTATE/LONG-DISTANCE DRIVING) THERE IS A VIBRATING NOISE ON MY WINDSHIELD. THIS STARTED YEARS AGO; AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE NOISE WAS MY ANTENNA. I CHECKED IT TO MAKE SURE IT WAS SECURE AND IT WAS, SO I DISMISSED THE NOISE. I DON'T DO A LOT OF LONG-DISTANCE OR INTERSTATE DRIVING, SO IT WAS A WHILE BEFORE I HEARD THE NOISE AGAIN. EVER SINCE I HAVE DISMISSED IT AS WIND NOISE AT HIGH SPEEDS. DURING MY INTERNET RESEARCH OF A RECENT MECHANICAL PROBLEM, I CAME ACROSS INFORMATION FOR IMPROPER WINDSHIELD MOUNTING AND LIFT GATE GLASS MOUNTING ON OTHER GM VEHICLES. ALTHOUGH I DID NOT FIND RECALL INFORMATION FOR MY MAKE/MODEL/YEAR, I AM FILING THIS REPORT BECAUSE OF WINDSHIELD NOISE AND POTENTIAL WINDSHIELD AND LIFT GATE GLASS FAILURE ON MY VEHICLE. NOW THAT I KNOW ABOUT THIS POSSIBLE DEFECT, I WILL TRY TO AVOID INTERSTATE DRIVING OR TRY TO DRIVE 60 MPH OR BELOW. I RECENTLY HAD TO TRAVEL FOR A FUNERAL 5 HOURS AWAY BUT RENTED A VEHICLE INSTEAD OF DRIVING MY OWN. IN THE REPORT DATE, I HAVE INSERTED THE DATE OF THE LAST INTERSTATE TRAVEL THAT WAS MADE IN MY VEHICLE.

WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE ON OR OFF POSITION, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID SPRAYED AND CONTINUED UNTIL THE FLUID WAS EMPTY WITHOUT BEING PROMPTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR HAD TO BE DISCONNECTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AROUND 10:30AM GOING ABOUT 45 MPH THE BACK WINDOW OF MY 2004 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER EXT JUST EXPLODED - GLASS EVERYWHERE IN THE BACK CARGO COMPARTMENT. WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND SUNNY AND WE DID NOT HAVE THE REAR DEFROSTER WORKING. FORTUNATELY WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY OTHER PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE OTHER THAN ME AND MY HUSBAND, AND WE WERE CLOSE TO HOME, SO WE WENT HOME AND CALLED THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO HAVE SOMEONE COME AND FIX IT. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER AND THE REAR GLASS HAS SHATTERED 2 TIMES THE FIRST TIME WE REPORTED IT AS A WINDOW BEING SHOT OUT BUT IM NOT SURE THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED NOW THERE WAS NO PROOF THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED FOR SURE I OPENED THE OUTSIDE DOOR TO MY HOUSE THEN I SHUT IT TO HEAR MY WINDOW SHATTER INS PAID TO REPLACE IT AND THAT WAS JUST OVER A YEAR AGO IT COST A TOTAL OF 1200.00 TO GET FIXED THEN LAST NIGHT WE WERE GETTING STUFF OUT OF THE BACK OF THE CAR AND AS MY HUSBAND PUSHED IT SHUT THE WINDOW SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES THIS WOULD HAVE CUT HIM UP BAD IF IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN COLD AND HE WASN'T WEARING HIS WINTER COAT WHAT IF IT WAS MY 8 YEAR OLD GOING OUT TO GET SOMETHING . NOT SURE HOW WE ARE GOING TO GET THE WINDOW REPLACED ITS CHRISTMAS TIME AND I CANT REALLY AFFORD IT HOPING THE GLASS COMPANY WILL HONOR THERE POLICY OF SAFE GLASS AND REPLACE IT. *TR

WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED THERE WERE NO OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE POLICE WAS NOTIFIED; HOWEVER, NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. MY AIR/HEAT ON OCCASION HAS NOT WORKED. THIS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES WHERE I WOULD TURN ON THE SYSTEM AND EVERYTHING WOULD SOUND LIKE IT WAS ON BUT NOTHING WOULD BLOW OUT AT ALL. I OPENED THE REAR ACCESS TO MY TRAILBLAZER AND WAS ABOUT TO SHUT IT I REACHED MY HAND UP AND STARTED TO PULL THE HATCH DOWN. I HAD MOVED IT ABOUT AN INCH WHEN THE BACK WINDOW "EXPLODED" SENDING A SHOWER OF GLASS DOWN OVER ME AND MY FIVE YEAR OLD SON. IT SHOT GLASS FRAGMENTS 10 FEET. I HAD GLASS IN MY HAND AND MY HAIR. SON WAS BEHIND ME AND LUCKILY HE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY INJURIES. PEOPLE HEARD IT NOISE INSIDE THE BUILDING. THE VEHICLE WAS CLEAR OF ICE AND SNOW AND IT WAS 20 DEGREES OUT, ( NOT TERRIBLY COLD COMPARABLY). I HAD NEVER HAD TROUBLE WITH THE GLASS OR THE REAR ACCESS BEFORE. THE GLASS DID NOT HAVE A NICK OR A SCRATCH. I TOOK PICTURES OF THE MESS. *TR

I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 2 1/2 YEARS. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS NOTICEABLE ONLY AT NIGHT WHEN THE WINDSHIELD GLARE WAS SO BAD ON THE FREEWAY THAT I COULD NOT SEE VERY WELL. WE HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED. THE SECOND PROBLEM HAS BEEN ON-GOING FOR THE PAST SIX TO EIGHT MONTHS. THE SPEEDOMETER SOMETIMES WORKS, BUT IS USUALLY NOT VERY CORRECT, AND MOST OF THE TIME IT JUST PICKS A NUMBER AND SITS THERE FOR SEVERAL DAYS, WHETHER THE CAR IS RUNNING OR NOT. I USUALLY USE THE RPMS TO FIGURE OUT HOW FAST I AM GOING UNTIL MY MECHANIC CAN FIX IT FOR MORE THAN A WEEK AT A TIME. *TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE HEADLIGHTS DIM WITHOUT WARNING. THE PROBLEM OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY AND HAS INCREASED OVER TIME. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE DEFROSTER IN THE AC COMPRESSOR. THE DIMMING OF THE HEADLIGHTS IS NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 02/24/06
