The contact stated while driving 35 MPH with cruise control mode disengaged, and approaching the red traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the vehicle responded temporarily, and then the vehicle accelerated unintendedly. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he shifted to park(P) in the hope that the vehicle would stop, but the vehicle failed to stop and the engine revved louder, causing the vehicle to crash into two occupied vehicles in the intersection of a highway. The air bags deployed. It was unknown whether there was a warning light illuminated after the crash. The contact sustained injuries and the emergency units transported the contact to the hospital, where he underwent a CT scan. The contact was informed that he had sustained two broken ribs. The contact was hospitalized for two weeks, and the contact was admitted to a rehabilitation center for a week and a half. One of the other drivers sustained three broken ribs, but it was unknown whether the driver received medical assistance. No further information was available. The vehicle was towed and totaled. The two other vehicles were totaled. A police report was filed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.
