TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER 300. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE "BATTERY SAVE MODE" MESSAGE SUDDENLY DISPLAYED. ALSO, THE RADIO TURNED OFF, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ANTI LOCK BRAKE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED, AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE BATTERY WAS LATER REPLACED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER (PEARL CHRYSLER IN PEOTONE, IL). AN INVESTIGATOR FROM THE MANUFACTURER WAS SENT TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE ENGINE FIRE

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WEST COVINA CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM LOCATED AT: 298 N AZUSA AVE, WEST COVINA, CA 91791, (626) 858-7202, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ODOR WAS FROM THE ALTERNATOR. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO KEEP DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE. A WEEK AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER DUE TO THE SMOKE ODOR, WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALHAMBRA CHRYSLER LOCATED AT 1100 W MAIN ST, ALHAMBRA, CA 91801, (626) 537-2400, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS AGAIN INFORMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS AGAIN INFORMED THAT THE REMEDY PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

THE LOCAL DEALER (STERLING HEIGHTS DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM, 40111 VAN DYKE, STERLING HEIGHTS, MI, 48313) STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
I WAS PARKING IN A PARKING GARAGE AND THE CAR WENT INTO LOW BATTERY MODE AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. I COULD SMELL BURNING FROM THE ENGINE. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT SAFELY TO PARK AS I WAS IN A PARKING GARAGE. I WAS ABLE TO INSPECT UNDER THE HOOD AND WHILE FACING THE ENGINE THEIR WAS SMOKE/BURNING SMELL TO THE LEFT OF THE ENGINE. THE DEALER DID CONFIRM IT IS PART OF THE T36 RECALL AND IS STATING I HAVE TO PAY UP FRONT.

THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE MOVED AND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAUGHT FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED FATAL INJURIES DUE TO SMOKE INHALATION. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FILED A FIRE REPORT. ALTERNATOR WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAD MY VEHICLE FOR 7 DAYS. WE WENT BACK AND FORTH AS TO WHO WAS GOING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR THAT WAS COVERED UNDER THE T36 RECALL. 5 DAYS AFTER SAID REPAIR, THE A/C COMPRESSOR IS NOT WORKING.
APRIL TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE PATCH WAS INSTALLED BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS PERIODICALLY. SINCE PATCH WAS INSTALLED TRANSMISSION HAS LOCKED IN PARK TWICE REQUIRING "EMERGENCY" RELEASE. LAST WEEK I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY, SHIFTED INTO PARK AND REACHED FOR A PACKAGE ON FLOOR. WHILE REACHING CAR ROLLED FORWARD HITTING CORNER OF BRICK GARAGE KNOCKING BRICK WORK LOOSE AND SNAPPING GARAGE DOOR CABLE ON RIGHT SIDE OF DOOR.BRICKWORK MUST BE TAKEN DOWN AND REINSTALLED. AM AWAITING ESTIMATES. PHOTOS ARE ATTACHED.

THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE MORLAN CHRYSLER DEALER (374 SIEMERS DRIVE, CAPE GIRADEAU, MO 63701; 573-207-4478 OR 573-388-3217) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND ALSO CAUSED THE BATTERY TO FAIL. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DESPITE THE RECALL REMEDY NOT BEING AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND FILED A CASE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CASE WAS BEING ESCALATED, BUT THE CONTACT HAD NOT HEARD ANYTHING AS OF YET. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,229. I WAS SENT A RECALL NOTICE THRU THE MAIL AND I WAS GIVEN A APPOINTMENT ON OCTOBER 17TH 2017. I HAD TO END UP CALLING MOSS BROS OF MORENO VALLEY ON SEPTEMBER 23RD 2017 TO ACCELERATE MY APPOINTMENT BECAUSE MY RADIO, DASH AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE ACTING UP AND FLICKERING AT THE SAME TIME. THE VEHICLE ALSO STARTED TO SPUTTER THEN SHUT DOWN. THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON SEPTEMBER 25TH 2017 BUT I CALLED AGAIN BECAUSE MY VEHICLE STOP WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A INTERSECTION. LUCKY AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT BUT I COULDN'T GET IT TO GO IN ANY GEAR AND OR NEUTRAL TO PUSH IT OUT OF THE INTERSECTION. I HAD TO 'YOUTUBE' A VIDEO TO LEARN HOW TO MOVE MY CAR. THIS TIME MOSS BROS IN MORENO VALLEY MOVED MY APPOINTMENT TO SEPTEMBER 26TH 2017 TO DO A DIAGNOSIS TEST TO SEE IF IT EVEN HAD TO DO WITH MY RECALL. I HAD TO PAY THE TOW FEE OF $75.00 TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, "PAY" FOR A NEW BATTERY WHICH I THINK IT'S B.S. OF $210.00. THE CAR STARTED UP PERFECTLY FINE EVERY TIME. I ALSO KNOW THAT A BAD ALTERNATOR CAN CAUSE THE BATTERY TO OVERLOAD AND OVERWORK WHICH WILL CAUSE IT TO FAIL. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY I HAVE TO PAY FOR SONETHING THATS BEEN AN ISSUE WIT SO MANY CARS. THE DEALERSHIP CAN'T GIVE ME A STRAIGHTFORWARD ANSWER SO IF SOMEONE FROM YOUR DEPARTMENT PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP WHERE TO GO FROM HERE BECAUSE AT THIS MOMENT I'M CAR'LESS/ BORROWING FROM A FAMILY MEMBER.

COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AT 82,000 MILES
WHILE DRIVING MY 2012 CHRYSLER 300 ON 8-19-2017 MY RADIO CUT OFF. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE FLASHING ON AND OFF. MY CAR LOST POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING, I WAS ABLE TO COAST WITHOUT ANY POWER OR BREAKS INTO A SAFE ARE. I,LET MY CAR REST FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES. I STARTED MY CAR AND THE HEAT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT CUT OFF. MY CAR WAS RUNNING RUFF AND THE LIGHTS INSIDE JUST STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF. MY CAR HAS A PUSH TO START BUTTON ON IT AND IT WOULD NOT CUT OFF WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE AND THE PUSH TO START BUTTON INTO THE OFF POSITION. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP, AND I AM WAITING ON THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO BE COMPLETED. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON RECALLS FOR MY MODEL CAR, AND SOME 2012 CHYSLER 300 HUNDREDS WERE RECALLED FOR A SPECIFIC PROBLEM DEALING WITH THE 160 VOLT ALTENATOR. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, CHYSLER IS NOT RECALLING ANY MODELS WITH THE 180 VOLT ALTENATOR. I AM ASSUMING BECAUSE MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE AN ACTIVE RECALL NOTICE ON IT, THAT MY CAR HAS 180 VOLT ALTENATOR ON IT. IF THAT IS THE CASE? I HAVE READ OVER 300 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE 180 VOLT ALTENATOR. I WAS LUCKY THAT I HAD JUST GOTTEN OF THE FREEWAY AND WAS NOT GOING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. WHAT ACTIONS HAVE THE NHTSA TAKEN TOO PROTECT CONSUMERS FOR THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE? EVEN WHEN MY CAR IS FIXED, IF THE CAN FIX IT I WILL NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TOO BE ADDRESSED BY THE CHRYSLER CORPORARTION AND THE NHTSA.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER 300. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT OF VEHICLE AND A BURNING ODOR WAS COMING FROM THE VENTS. ALSO THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE NOISE GREW LOUDER WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. ALSO, THE TRANSMISSION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO STUTTER. AS THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT AND ENGAGE INTO PARK. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED AND THE WIPER BLADES INADVERTENTLY ACTIVATED. THE PUSH TO START/STOP BUTTON FAILED TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE, BUT THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY TURNED ITSELF OFF. THE CONTACT CALLED A TOW TRUCK. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER OPENED THE HOOD AND SMOKE WAS PRESENT. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO JUMPSTART THE VEHICLE, BUT THE BATTERY FAILED TO HOLD A CHARGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DARCARS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF MARLOW HEIGHTS (5060 AUTH WAY, SUITLAND, MD 20746 (301) 423-5111) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE. THE ALTERNATOR AND SERPENTINE BELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AT DARCARS DUE TO THE COST; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V240000 (POWER TRAIN). I HAD A RECALL PERFORMED AT THE DEALER FOR THE SHIFTER RECALL IN FOR WHICH THEY PERFORMED A REPROGRAM THAT WOULD SUPPOSEDLY KEEP THE CAR FROM ROLLING IF THE DRIVERS DOOR WAS OPENED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT PUT IN PARK. WELL HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED. AFTER THE REPROGRAM WHENEVER THE DRIVERS DOOR IS OPENED WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING AND IN GEAR IT JUMPS INTO PARK WHICH IS BAD FOR THE DRIVELINE. I GUESS THAT'S HOW IT WAS RECONFIGURED. I WAS USE TO THE OLD WAY BECAUSE WHEN I PULL INTO MY DRIVEWAY I ALWAYS OPEN THE DOOR TO SEE HOW CLOSE I AM TO THE EDGE OF THE DRIVEWAY. (I HAVE TO DO THIS TO LEAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR MY WIFE TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE GARAGE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CAR) HAVING OVER 45 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE AUTOMOTIVE FIELD AS A TECHNICIAN AND TECHNICAL TRAINER I CAN SAY THIS IS ONE OF THE DUMBEST THINGS I HAVE SEEN. WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE WAS TO REPROGRAM IT SO THAT IF YOU OPENED THE DOOR WITH YOUR SEATBELT OFF THEN THE CAR SHOULD GO INTO PARK BECAUSE YOU COULD STEP OUT WHILE THE CAR WAS IN GEAR. YOUR NOT GETTING OUT OF THE CAR WITH YOUR SEATBELT ON SO THERE'S NO NEED FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO JUMP INTO PARK THE OTHER THING THAT HAPPENS IS WHEN YOU PLACE THE SHIFTER IN PARK AND PUSH THE START BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T GO TO OFF IT GOES TO ACCESSORY AND YOU EITHER HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR THEN TURN IT OFF OR PUSH THE START BUTTON WITH YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO TURN THE IGNITION ON THEN BACK OFF. IT NEVER DID THIS BEFORE THEY PERFORMED THE RECALL. I WISH I NEVER TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE RECALL. IN FACT I PROBABLY WONT TAKE MY CAR IN FOR ANY MORE RECALLS ILL TAKE MY CHANCES JUST THE WAY IT IS.

AS LEAVING MY HOME AND GOING NO MORE THAN 15 MPH BECAUSE I WAS STILL IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD, I NOTICED THAT "BATTERY SAVER MODE" CAME ON THE DASH. WITHIN SECONDS, I NOTICED THE RADIO TURNED OFF AND THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND AND AS I WAS RETURNING HOME (WHICH WOULD HAVE TAKEN ABOUT 60 SECONDS), THE CAR COMPLETED STOPPED. I STARTED TO NOTICE A BURNING SMELL, SO I TRIED TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK BUT IT WOULD NOT GO. I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF, BUT NO SUCCESS. AS I WAS SMELLING THE BURNING SMELL, I DECIDED TO JUST OPEN THE CAR DOOR TO GET OUT AND IT WAS AT THAT TIME THE CAR JUST TURNED OFF. I CALLED THE DEALER AND DESCRIBED WHAT HAPPENED. THEY ADVISED THAT IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH ALTERNATOR AND WOULD CHECK FOR RECALL. THEY CHECKED MY VIN AND ADVISED I WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL, BUT OTHER 2012 CHRYSLER 300S HAD BEEN INCLUDED. AS I RESEARCHED ONLINE, MANY CONSUMERS WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM AND BEING TOLD THEY WERE NOT IN RECALL. I READ THE SYMPTOMS OF THE PROBLEM AS THE RECALL WAS NOTED AND I EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. IN ADDITION, I WAS AFRAID THE CAR WAS GOING TO CATCH ON FIRE BY THE SMELL THAT WAS COMING IN THE CAR. HOPEFULLY, THIS PROBLEM CAN BE ADDRESSED.
Car was stalling and had electrical issues. I paid to get it fixed but never knew there was a recall for my vehicles alternator. The vehicle battery dies fairly quickly from time to time still and every know and then I have to call AAA to jump my car and they say my battery is good. Chrysler's number for this recall is T36. I never received a noticed.

GOT UP IN THE MORNING STARTED MY CHRYSLER 300 LET IT RUN FOR 3-5MINS BEFORE PULLING OFF TO GET COFFEE. NO ISSUES GOING AND RETURNING WHICH TOOK 10-15MINS TOPS. RETURNED HOME TO PICK UP AND DROP MY GIRLFRIEND OFF AT WORK APPROX. 20-25 MILES AWAY. MADE IT THERE WITH NO ISSUES. I PULL AWAY FROM HER JOB TURN A FEW CORNERS I SUDDENLY HEAR A FAINT WHINING THE STEADILY GREW LOUDER AND BEGAN TO SMELL ELECTRICAL BURNING. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT POPPED THE HOOD LOOKED AT THE ENGINE SAW NOTHING BUT STILL SMELLED ELECTRICAL BURNING. GOT BACK IN THE CAR TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN ON AGAIN AND PULLED OFF. 5 MILES FROM MY GIRLFRIENDS JOB I'M BACK ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 60-65 THE CAR IS STILL WHINING THE ELECTRONICS STARTED TO FLICKER EVERYTHING THE NEEDLES EVERYTHING JUST KEPT FLASHING OR FAILED UNTIL THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP I COULDN'T BREAK OR GAS BUT THE CAR WAS STILL ON AND MOVING. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO SLOWLY WORK MY WAY TO THE SHOULDER WHERE I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BREAK TO STOP THE CAR COMPLETELY. I TRIED JUMPING THE CAR BUT THE WIRES MELTED WHICH CAUSED A LITTLE ALARM BECAUSE THE CABLES WHERE CONNECTED CORRECTLY. GOT A TOW HOME. ON MY OWN I REMOVED THE BATTERY WENT TO HAVE IT CHARGED IT WOULD NOT HOLD A CHARGE I BOUGHT A NEW ONE. OVER $200. UPON CONNECTING THE NEW BATTERIES NEG CONNECTION WHICH I DID AFTER CONNECTING THE POS. CONNECTOR I EXPERIENCED A HUGE AMOUNT OF SPARKING WHICH ACTUALLY ATE AWAY SUM OF THE BATTERIES NEG. CONNECT...YES ATE THE METAL KNOB...MEDAL PIECES LIKE DUST AROUND IT NOW BUT I DON'T THINK I DAMAGED THE BATTERY. I CHECKED THE GROUNDING IT WAS ALL GOOD OR SO IT SEEMED. I REMOVED THE ALTERNATOR TOOK IT TO AUTO ZONE BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT HAS TO BE TESTED IN THE VEHICLE WITH THE CAR RUNNING...WHICH I CLEARLY CANNOT START. IVE SET UP APPOINTMENTS ONLINE TO HAVE IT FIXED BUT NOBODY NOT EVEN CHRYSLER HAS THE PARTS YET...BEEN 2 MONTHS. I'M JUST WAITING.

MY BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I WAS LEAVING THE GROCERY STORE. ABOUT A MILE AWAY I STOPPED AT STOPLIGHT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION ON THE HIGHWAY AND DASH LIGHTS STARTED COMING ON AND OFF, RADIO AND AC COMING ON AND OFF AND THEN CAR DIES AND WILL NOT RESTART. AFTER 5 OR 10 MINUTES GET IT RESTARTED AND WILL BARELY MOVE. LUCKILY THERE WAS AN AUTO PARTS STORE JUST AROUND THE CORNER. WHEN I PULL IN THE PARKING LOT, CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF DRIVE, WILL NOT SHUT OFF, WIND SHIELD WIPERS COME ON AND WON'T GO OFF, GAUGES ALL GOING CRAZY AND HAVE TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE SO MY CAR WON'T RUN THROUGH THE FRONT OF THE STORE WHILE I GO INTO STORE TO GET HELP. THE GUY HOOKS UP TO DIAGNOSTIC DEVICE AND IT GIVES A READ ERROR. (HOOKS UP TO ANOTHER CAR AND NO ERROR). FINALLY GET CAR TO SHUT OFF AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES. HE TESTS BATTERY AND COMES BACK LOW. NEW $200 BATTERY AND STARTS UP FINE, EVERYTHING WORKING AGAIN. PULL OUT OF PARKING LOT AND START SMELLING SOMETHING BURNING, SMOKE COMING THROUGH VENTS, WEIRD SOUND. PULL OVER AND SAME THINGS HAPPEN - GAUGES GOING CRAZY, WIPERS ON, WON'T SHIFT OUT OF DRIVE, WON'T TURN OFF. GET OUT OF CAR AND TAKE KEY OUT WITH ME AND WIPERS COME ON. HAVE TO TAKE OUT FUSE TO GET THEM TO GO OFF. LIGHTS COME ON. HAVE TO DISCONNECT BATTERY TO GET THEM OFF - ALL OF THIS WHEN THE KEY IS NOT EVEN IN THE CAR! $60 TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO SHOP AND $600 TO HAVE ALTERNATOR REPLACED. WHY IS THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR NOT PART OF THE P60 RECALL WHEN IT IS HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUES AS THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR THAT WAS RECALLED??? I KEEP SEEING OTHERS SAYING THEY KEEP HAVING THE ALTERNATOR GO OUT AGAIN EVEN AFTER THEY REPLACE IT. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 5 YEARS AND NEVER AND PROBLEMS WITH IT OTHER THAN GENERAL MAINTENANCE STUFF. I DON'T NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT ANY LONGER.
