TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER 300. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AND RESUMED DRIVING. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
AT AUSTIN TEXAS AIRPORT STOPPED LEFT ENGINE RUNNING, TO PICK UP PASSENGERS PUT CAR IN PARK GOT OUT COULDN'T OPEN TRUNK GEAR SHIFT HAD JUMPED TO NEUTRAL. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I OWNED THE CAR CALLED DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THIS ITEM WAS NOT ON RECALL AND NOT TO BRING IT IN UNTIL IT WAS RECALLED MEANWHILE ME OR MY WIFE COULD HAVE AN ACCIDENT SOME TIMES IT JUMPS INTO REVERSE WITH OUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STATIONARY AND HAS ROLLED BACK ACROSS THE STREET FROM MY DRIVEWAY.

WHILE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ARRIVED AND CHANGED THE BATTERY. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. IN ADDITION, WHILE PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY REVERSED AND ROLLED INTO A FLOWER POT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RE-ENTER THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS STILL IN PARK. HAS STARTED VISITING A FRIEND IN THE HOSPITAL COMMA PARK THE CAR IN A PARKING GARAGE AND ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY NOT MOVING AND WHEN I RETURN AND DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE I NOTICED MY ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ARE ON. I HAVE ANOTHER ISSUE WHICH I DISCOVERED TODAY MAY 19TH 2016 IS THAT WHEN ENTERING THE VEHICLE AND STARTING IT EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL AS I PROGRESSED DOWN THE ROAD I NOTICED SOMETHING A LITTLE OFF AND IT NOT WANTING TO ACCELERATE THE RPM SEEM TO BE A LITTLE JUMPY AND I CHECK THE OIL PRESSURE WHICH WAS REALLY HIGH I TURNED AROUND IMMEDIATELY AND PARKED THE CAR BACK AT MY HOUSE. THE OIL PRESSURE WOULD JUMP MAYBE 30 TO 40 PSI BUT ONLY REACHING 20 MILES AN HOUR. I AM UNAWARE OF WHAT IS CAUSING THESE ISSUES AND ONLY DISCOVERED IT AS I WAS MAKING A TURN OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. I AM ALSO UNSURE OF THE DATE THAT THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON BUT I CAN SAY IT WAS BEFORE THE EVENTS ON MAY 19TH 2016. MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FEBRUARY 14TH OF LAST YEAR.

IN ADDITION, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AS IT JERKED BEFORE MOVING FORWARD. THE ABS AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS SENSOR AND WHEEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ON 5-01-16, WHILE DRIVING, HEARD A "THUMP" TYPE NOISE IN MY RIGHT REAR. THIS ALSO ACTIVATED MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. ALSO I NOTED SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, AS IN THE CAR WAS STUCK IN A HIGHER GEAR. DROVE STRAIGHT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE DID A OBD LL TEST. A P1DC7-00 CODE CAME BACK.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIG BAG WIRE NEEDED TO BE CONNECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. RECENTLY, WHILE IN THE PARKING LOT, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,441. UPDATED 11/07/17*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE ALTERNATOR BEGAN TO SMOKESO MUCH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM FAILED. WHILE ON HIGHWAY, MY RADIO TURNED OFF AND VEHICLE WENT INTO BATTERY SAVING MODE. AS I PROCEEDED TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY, THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER. I WENT TO AUTOZONE AND THE CAR BARELY MADE IT THERE. THE CAR SMELLED LIKE IF SOMETHING WAS BURNING UNDER THE HOOD. ONE OF THE ATTENDANTS CHECKED MY BATTERY AND SAID THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED, I HAD THEM RECHARGE IT. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED SINCE THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE. I PICKED UP THE BATTERY THIS MORNING AND TURNED THE CAR ON, AND ALL THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED TO FLICKER SO I JUST TURNED OF THE CAR. I READ IN TO THE VEHICLES RECALLS AND I NOTICED THAT RECALL #P6O IS EXACTLY WHAT MY CAR WAS DOING LAST NIGHT. I CALLED CHRYSLER TODAY AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT DUE TO MY CAR NOT BEING AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL BUT IT OBVIOUSLY HAS BEEN. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I CAN DO TO MAKE MY CAR PART OF THIS RECALL? IF SO WHAT STEPS CAN I TAKE TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN? THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD OF CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND OR MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS SINCE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS ISSUE STARTED, IF NOT FOR MY QUICK THINKING THE CAR COULD OF STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I SHOULD ALSO MENTION THAT WHILE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BEGAN TO FAIL IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO BRAKE. ON ANOTHER NOTE, THE AIR BAG LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF ALL THE TIME. I AM AFRAID IF WE HAVE AN ACCIDENT THAT THE AIR BAGS WON'T DEPLOY.
(P60/NHTSA 14V-634) I OWN A 2012 CHRYSLER 300. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 5 MPH IN A PARKING LOT, THE RADIO STATED CUTTING ON AND OFF, THE BATTERY ICON FLASHED ON AND OFF AND I LOST ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE. I OPENED THE HOOD AND SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. AAA CAME AND TRIED TO JUMP -START THE VEHICLE, BUT THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE BATTER AND THE ALTERNATOR WERE REPLACED. IN 2015, A LETTER WAS SENT TO CERTAIN CHRYSLER 300 OWNERS WHOSE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A 3.6L ENGINE AND A 160 AMP ALTERNATOR TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLE TO A CHRYSLER DEALER AND GET THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED, FREE OF CHARGE. THOSE OF US WITH A 180 AMP ALTERNATOR DID NOT QUALIFY. THOSE OF US WITH THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR DID NOT QUALIFY. THE SAME PROBLEM THAT EXISTED WITH THE 160 AMP, ALSO EXIST WITH THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR. I ALSO HAVE A LIFE- TIME WARRANTY, BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE BATTERY.

I REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY IN MY 2012 CHRYSLER 300 WHEN I RECEIVED THE MANUFACTURER RECALL NOTICE. I PURCHASED THE PARTS MYSELF AND HAD THE DEALER INSTALL THEM AT MY EXPENSE. I WAS REIMBURSED BY CHRYSLER. PLEASE NOTE HERE THAT THIS IS A BASE MODEL. THAT ALTERNATOR RECENTLY FAILED AS WELL AFTER JUST OVER A YEAR. THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN WENT OFF FOR A FEW DAYS. IT CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON THIS TIME. HAD IT TESTED AND WAS TOLD THE ALTERNATOR WAS AGAIN FAILING. THIS ALTERNATOR COST 485.00, LUCKILY WITH A LIFETIME WARRANTY. PERHAPS IT IS NOT JUST THE TYPE OF ALTERNATORS CHRYSLER USED, BUT A MORE COMPLEX PROBLEM TO BE INVESTIGATED HERE.

AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND STAYING ON FOR LONG LENGTHS OF TIME. RECALL NUMBER NO7 WAS ISSUED FOR THIS VERY THING BUT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO REPAIR OURS AS IT IS 2 MONTHS SHORT OF MANAUFACTOR DATE. THE RECALL BEGAN IN APRIL OF 2013 AND I CONTEND THE SAME PARTS THAT INITIATED THIS RECALL ARE THE SAME PARTS USED IN OUR VEHICLE. THEY TOLD ME WHEN ENOUGH COMPLAINTS COME IN THEY MAY EXTEND THE DATES OF MANUFACTOR FOR THE RECALL,
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS, AS THE CAR HEATS UP, THE ABS FUSE SEEMS TO LOSE CONTACT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, ABS/ESP (STABILITY CONTROL), FORWARD COLLISION WARNING, AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE DISABLE. IT HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHILE STATIONARY AND MOVING. IF USING ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, ACCELERATION AND SPEED MAINTENANCE WILL STOP, AND COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT (THOUGH IT HAS NOT YET). A SIMILAR CHRYSLER CASE HAS BEEN OPENED AND LINKED TO THE POLICE VARIANT OF A CAR ON THE SAME PLATFORM WITH SAME ENGINE. POLICE CARS USE DODGE CHARGERS WITH HEMI V8, WHICH IS THE SAME PLATFORM AS THE CHRYSLER 300 WITH A HEMI V8, WITH MOSTLY COSMETIC ISSUES. THE FUSE IS NOT BLOWN, AND UPON THE CAR COOLING DOWN, THE SYSTEM IS RESTORED, HOWEVER, ON JOURNEYS IN WHICH THE ENGINE HEAT RISES, THE SYSTEM GOES OFFLINE. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THIS MAY BE A COMMON ISSUE IN THIS PLATFORM, HOWEVER, THE TSB ONLY WENT TO THE POLICE CAR VARIANT OF ESSENTIALLY THE SAME CAR. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET WHEN SUDDENLY IT STARTED TO ACT STRANGE. THE VEHICLE STABILITY WARNING LIGHT WENT ON AND I BEGAN TO QUICKLY LOSE POWER AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. A BURNING SMELL WAS DETECTED AND THE POWERTRAIN BEGAN TO MAKE UNUSUAL NOISES. OTHER WARNING LIGHTS BEGAN POPPING RANDOMLY AND THE WIPERS STARTED ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING HAD BURNED UP UNDER THE HOOD. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED CHRYSLER ROADSIDE SERVICE AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THE CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT LATER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND SAID THE ALTERNATOR HAD BURNED UP. THE ALTERNATOR ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY BATTERY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INDICATED IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1,000 TO REPAIR BOTH. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ALSO INDICATED THIS REPAIR IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OR RECALL. I TOLD THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT I WAS AWARE CHRYSLER HAD RECALLED ALMOST 1/2 MILLION VEHICLE FOR THE SAME EXACT ALTERNATOR PROBLEM (RECALL P60). I CONTACTED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY INDICATED NOTHING CAN BE DONE BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ON THE P60 RECALL LIST. THEY PROVIDED ME A CASE NUMBER FOR THE INITIAL ROADSIDE SERVICE/TOW (#28743527) AND INDICATED NO OTHER CASE NUMBER WOULD BE GENERATED. ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE IS NOT ON CHRYSLER'S RECALL LIST, THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED BY MY VEHICLE WAS IDENTICAL TO THE ALTERNATOR/ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED IN OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES HAVING THE SAME MODEL/ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.

YOU COULD SMELL THE ELECTRICAL FIRE IN VEHICLE. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. PAID ALMOST 700 DOLLARS FOR NEW ALTERNATOR WHICH WAS THE PROBLEM. THERE IS A RECALL (P60) WHICH LIST MY VEHICLE BUT MY VIN DOES NOT SHOW UP AS PART OF THE RECALL. MY BROTHER HAS A DODGE AND HAD SAME THING HAPPEN TO HIM AND HIS FAMILY. HIS VEHICLE WAS LISTED AS PART OF N60 RECALL AND WAS REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE.
