NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V538000 (Hybrid Propulsion System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Over six months later, NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V538000 still has no remedy for an apparent fire risk! I can't charge my vehicle and I can't park it in my own garage. I drive at risk of being in the midst of a spontaneous fire! THE MANUFACTURER has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner. I bought a plug in hybrid that I can't plug in. I bought it also for gas mileage complimented by the electrical propulsion system, which I cannot use. All the while, a spontaneous fire risk, without a fully known cause, continues to lurk in the car that I drive my kids to school in.
The rear lift gate alarm will randomly fail to work causing a risk of someone having something closed up or pinched in the lift gate. If you google the issue for the van there are numerous forum posts of people having the same problem. When it first started to fail it was intermittent and there was no indication as to it failing. Now it has failed completely and never works. The part to fix it is back ordered by mopar and hasn't been available for a long time to fix it.
I’m having trouble with my start stop. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes my motor goes into limp mode for no reason.
My vehicle suddenly lost power driving down the road at approximately 20MPH. I rolled to the side and the vehicle engaged the electronic parking brake. It's been at Chrysler dealership for over a week and is now a STARS case according to my service rep. .
While driving down the road and slowing down the van put itself into park and shut off. Had to then restart the van.
Vehicle was driving 60 mph and turned off, told me to put car in park while driving on the highway. Car now stalls too often (within a mile of starting) to drive. At repair shop now and cannot find a fix. Common problem with this vehicle.
Van has 55,000 miles on it. Not overheating but noticed coolant reservoir keeps needing to be topped off daily. Also, just received check engine light code for cylinder 5. Shop diagnosed as head gaskets and now need an engine replacement. Absolutely unacceptable for a vehicle with such low miles.
The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds on several occasions, there was a clicking noise emanating from the engine compartment and the vehicle began shaking. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that the control arm and bushings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer who was unable to replicate the failure on one occasion; however, on another occasion, the vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the alternator needed to be replaced. The failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was determined that the sway bar link needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Bubbling on both sliding doors and also all along front of hood. Just noticed it as hard to tell unless you put a flashlight on the areas as van is black.
The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica limited with 3.6l Pentastar engine had a check engine light come around 90,000 miles. The vehicle would suddenly lose acceleration power without warning, especially while getting onto the freeway. It was found that there is a known issue with the 3.2 and 3.6l Pentastar engines where the camshafts begin throwing metal shavings into the cylinders. The issue first presented itself as a cylinder 6 misfire with error code P0306. After replacing the spark plugs, coils, and VVT solenoids, the problem continued until the metal shavings were discovered. The design flaw of the engine causing the camshaft to produce metal shavings into the cylinders that lead to the sudden loss of acceleration is a major safety concern.
Chrysler issued recall 72B back in July but has failed to provide a repair solution to the issue of a high voltage battery fire. They have advised to park the vehicle away from structures and to not charge. It's disappointing not to have a resolution or fix for this issue, especially going into the colder months and not being able to use the vehicle as intended.
While driving the car down a busy 4 lane road at 55mph on [XXX] around [XXX] in Irvine, CA, the car began to shake as the steering locked up and alerts came up on the dash that the power steering had failed. After turning the car off and on it did not fix it. Leaving it off for 15 mins seemed to make the error go away. We had it towed to Tustin Tuttle Chrysler dealership for service. The dealership found the fault code in the log, it was a power steering control failure. They could not replicate the circumstance and insist on releasing the car as safe to drive; putting my family and the public at great risk. The dealership refuse to even run diagnostics on the faulty identified part. They said if they cannot recreate the problem they won’t fix it, even though they see the error code on their scanner. They shouldn’t be telling me the car is safe when it is clearly not. They only drove it 30 miles and did not check wiring or even pop the hood. They have done no work to deem it safe and this is fraud. Rochelle, the service manager, has told us over the phone that she will not work on the car, because she believes she will not be reimbursed for the work. She has said she has had the car for too long and wants it picked up. Her service advisor Erik, has read us the codes found over the phone and also told us that no one has worked on it and only has test driven it. Our greatest concern is the dealership is not servicing or repairing vehicles and putting very dangerous cars on the road. This is a public safety issue for all of Southern California. Additionally, this car was purchased with a full manufacturer’s bumper-to-bumper warranty, of which it is still in its covered in the next 3 years or 40,000 miles. While driving, vehicle will display "stop safely vehicle will stop soon" and illuminate the battery and auto stop/start icons. This had happened previously and I was advised to have the auxillary battery replaced. After, the issue did not occur for a month or so but happened again. Had been intermittent but the car never shut off as I have read has happened to others. The additional issue I have is several times when I turned the vehicle off after the warning appeared, the vehicle would not start. I have an appointment with the dealership tomorrow to see what they can uncover. I have seen the recalls about this primarily about the EV models (which mine is not) but still want this noted. I have read it has varied from a wiring connector and needing a new transmission. There are currently no active recalls for my specific vehicle. Very scary stuff with a vehicle full of kids at times.
We have had the Auxiliary battery replaced 3 times so far and the light for just came on again, the 4th time. Here are the dates and receipts for the replacements. Clearly there’s a flaw somewhere And Chrysler is not addressing is with all the affected vehicles. I’ve seen a recall on them but apparently my van is not part of it … even though they replaced that battery 3 times so far on average every 1 year 3 months. “Chrysler has announced that 198731 vehicles have been affected by a Battery recall. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Pacifica vehicles equipped with engine stop/start systems. A loose battery ground connection may result in an intermittent loss of power steering assist and/or a stall.” 7/24/23 Atlantic Dodge Ram - replaced Auxiliary battery under warranty (3rd time) and regular battery (see receipt below) Case #[XXX] 7/17/23 7/21/22 Atlantic Dodge Dealer Battery replaced 3/3/21 Purchased new battery at Garber Dealer & Atlantic Dodge dealer replaced regular battery and installed auxiliary battery I bought from Garber (see attached receipt) Please help I have a child that requires frequent doctor/hospital visits who almost died and we can’t be dealing with this issue over and over again. After backing up and putting the vehicle in DRIVE the backing up camera will remain on for up to 10 second.
Head gasket failure at 68500 miles. It causes a misfire in the engine and could cause an accident from the car bucking once it consumes the engine coolant and also causes overheating and a lot of smoke to come out of the tailpipe making it less visible for others on the road to see, if behind a car like mine
Power steering failure October 11, 2024. Car battery malfunction. Thankfully I was in the slow lane and was able to drift to the shoulder of the highway. My safety of my entire family was put at risk. This includes me, my wife and 2 kids. The problem was confirmed by a dealership and I was able to replace the battery. The problem has not been reproduced, and no there were no warning lamps.
The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V538000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Lost of coolant with no warning lamps. Engine went into hydrolock and now will not start. Miss fire code appearing before locking up. Dash light power come on and off when the car is off and park. The car has 77k miles and would choke when the car was running and changing gears. Has not been inspect by anyone yet because the car is dead on the drive way.
Power steering is sticking. This requires me to use additional force and thereby resulting in over correction. This has caused unintentional swerving into the adjacent lane nearly hitting other vehicles. Seems to be intermittent, but this has happened on numerous occasions. I see there is a currently an investigation into this matter and want you to be aware this is happening on 2019 vehicles as well.
The check engine light came on. The day it came on, when starting the vehicle, it started shaking while in idle and when initially driving. The same day I had the engine read and a cylinder 6 misfire came up on the report. When I began driving, the car was shaking and it felt like it could stop abruptly which could have caused an accident. Yes, it was inspected and it was diagnosed that the head gasket is blown. Yes, the check engine light came on. It should be noted that when my local mechanic diagnosed the problem, two other Chrysler Pacifica's and two other vehicles with the v6 engine have the same issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while at a traffic light, the on and off switch failed to turn off. While driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle shut off unintendedly. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V010000 (Electrical System, Hybrid Propulsion System). The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle stalled, with the START/STOP light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off independently. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Radio Uconnect resets every 3 to 5 minutes. When this happens screen goes black. If backing no warning on what is behind you. GPS is resetting with wrong location. Wireless calls stop. This has been a problem across all FCA brands and an issue since 2017. I had 2018 Pacifica with same issues. I believe there are two class action lawsuits over this problem. I had to pay $650 to replace radio. No help from Chrysler customer cares NO HELP.
Van engine failed during driving. This is a known issue by Chrysler and they will not repair the underlying problem - this is related to a prior recall. Instead, it only suggested replacing the battery which is a temporary fix. Separately, this van has a pending recall due to a fire risk. Unable to use the plug-in hybrid function of the van nor park it in a garage due to the recall issue. It has been almost four months since the recall notice without any news of when Chrysler will fix this problem. I requested a buy back due to the inherent risk of severe injury from simply being inside this van but was denied.
Brake Booster has failed. There was previously an extended warranty published for this same issue on November 11, 2023 (No D-22-15) for XA7 Brake Booster, however that expires after 5 years after the vehicle was placed in service or 150,000 miles (whichever is sooner). The Brake Booster failure on our vehicle happened just a few short months after this "expiration date" of the extended warranty. Also, the date of the extended warranty was issued was November 2023. This left only 5 months from the issuance of the letter to the expiration of the warranty, which does not seem to be a reasonable amount of time. Our vehicle is not safe to drive as the brakes are not functioning properly which could result in serious and fatal injury's to the occupants or other vehicles on the roadway. Additionally repair parts are not available to purchase and are on a "National back order". Attention needs to be given to this topic as there are many vehicles on the road that are not safe because of this lack of quality.
I am the mechanic that was hard to work on this vehicle and I am feeling this out for the customer but I am submitting it in my name . Vehicle has code p105c and p0303. The first code is pending permanent and stored, it is saying the intake valve is stuck in a low lift position. The second code is for cylinder 3 misfire. We had the coils switched over from cylinder 3 to cylinder 5 and made sure that the wiring was not damaged and the same code keeps coming back for that cylinder as well as the p105c. It causes the vehicle to start shaking while going down the road almost causing an accident. There is a recall on the 2020 Pacifica having the same code but there isn't a recall on the 2019 which has the same engine.
On [XXX] around 12:00 PM, while traveling northbound in the HOV lane at 70 MPH on [XXX] near [XXX] , with two small children in the passenger row and two adults in the front, the following error suddenly appeared on the dashboard: "Stop Safely -- Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon." Power to the engine stopped as a result and the car coasted. A "red turtle" warning and a "Check Engine" error also displayed. No other errors, unfamiliar sounds, or mechanical noises preceded these errors, nor had there been any other recent problems with the car. We pulled over to the shoulder immediately and turned the car off for approximately 5 minutes to see whether the errors would persist. With the "Stop Safely" error no longer on the dashboard, we turned the car on again and drove it to the dealership. On that drive, the previous errors appeared a second time. The dealership, Carl Burger Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM World (La Mesa CA), has confirmed that the transmission needs to be replaced and that it is unsafe to drive the vehicle until the transmission is replaced. On August 30, 2024, the dealership said that they are waiting for Stellantis to release the transmission and "that won't happen any time soon." As of today, September 2, 2024, Carl Burger has failed to provide a timeline for the replacement and have informed us that we must deal with Stellantis in order to get the case escalated and the car repaired. They have also refused to offer us a replacement/loaner vehicle while ours is in the shop. The vehicle's brake booster is going out. The vehicle's warranty was already extended once but is now out of that 5-year timeframe. This issue began about 2 weeks ago. Now, the brake pushes back and doesn't want to engage which poses the risk of rear-ending someone. Chrysler is aware of this situation and refuses to extend or fix the issue.
Car seems to slip out of drive. In the Dashboard the D will start blinking and I can no longer accelerate. The message says to shift to park and back to drive. If this happens on time, I can start going again. If I can't get it to register that I've shifted, I will not be able to accelerate and I need to pull off the road. Once I come to about 1 or 2 MPH, the shifter knob will turn itself to park and the car will slam the parking break on. I get the message to press then engine button, turn the parking break back off and turn the knob to drive.
There is a slight scrubbing noise when I turn the steering wheel in either direction. When I turn the wheel to the right there is a 'catch' of some sort and I have to put a little force in getting it centered again. I am scared honestly is gonna stay right and I am gonna run into something. I went to the auto parts store to see about power steering fluid only to find out my vehicle doesn't have that and its all electrical. I checked for recalls to see if this is an issue happening with my vehicle and saw none but did see that I am apparently not the only person to have reported such an issue. I am very, very concerned. This has been happening now for about a month.
When at a stopped position, the brake pedal gets stiff and starts pushing back … and then the car starts creeping forward. I’ve almost hit countless cars in drive-through, and my car tries to creep through red lights. It’s also very hard to brake. I went to one shop and they said it was the brake booster and vacuum hose , and that a lot of people were complaining about this issue in the Pacifica’s. I took the car to a Chrysler dealership to get it repaired and they said the brake booster is on back order because it’s a common problem. The only way to get the car to stop from rolling when you’ve got the brake on is to slam down on the brake (then it’s a crazy crunching sound) or to throw it into park before it gets you into traffic. It’s scary and it’s not safe.
The coolant keeps disappearing from the resevoir tank and there is a gurgling noise coming from the front driver side. The engine starts rough with the check engine light on.
Around 79,000 miles, my 2019 Pacifica experienced check engine error codes. Upon diagnostics by a repair shop, found that the engine coolant was leaking into the engine due to a bad head gasket and that the engine cylinders were damaged and the only repair is a full engine replacement. The car has been maintained and received regular oil changes and should not fail in this manner at less than 80,000 miles. Reading through various forums I see this is a known issue with the 2017+ model year Pacificas
Check engine light cam on then a message "Stop safely Vehicle will shut off soon" This is related to recall 23V-010
My 2019 Pacifica Hybrid started showing a message around 07/19 “Service Charing Station” followed by Service Park brakes, Service Parking system and was not able to start or control anything in the car. After 15 to 30 minutes it started working and no errors. On Friday, 07/26, car stopped all of a sudden (luckily my family was in the parking lot) and showed a different message “Stop Safely. Vehicle will stop soon” message and after that it went completely dead. This is a concern that the vehicle would stop when driving and making the vehicle not responding to anything. You cannot control (brakes, driving modes, light) anything and when AAA jump started the car was in “Running” mode and asking to power on the vehicle.
Recall # 72B/NHTSA 24V-538 The recall was issued on July 18th. Today is October 24th. That's more than 3 months and there's still no info on a remedy or a timeline.
Vehicle was found to be overheating, with low coolant. Initial concern for possible hose leak, but nothing visualized on inspection...testing demonstrated a blown head gasket and possible warped cylinder. This is a recurring problem for Chrysler Pacifica's that Chrysler refuses to address. There were no warning signs before hand.
On 4 occasions upon stopping at either traffic lights or stop signs the vehicle has completely shut off and shift to park on its own. The first time it shown the hood was open, upon checking the hood was locked. The other times there were no alerts indicated on the instrument panel.
I had my three children in the van and was holding our new baby as I opened the automatic passenger-side sliding door. It opened part way, got stuck, but the autotrack kept operating trying to open the door. At that point, the whole door fell off and the window immediately behind the door broke. We had it towed to a dealer since we didn't want to drive it with everything open. I was very fortunate that the door didn't drop on my feet or that one of my children wasn't standing there waiting to get in! With the holiday, we are waiting to talk to our insurance agent on Monday. The dealer has given us an estimate to fix everything, but that is the only thing like an inspection. Prior to the incident, the door would sometimes stop when opening, then it would reverse and close itself. Then you could reopen it and it worked. There were no other warnings.
The following message displays on the vehicle: “Stop Safely. Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon.” Upon receiving the message, the vehicle will stall. This has occurred multiple times while driving on the freeway at 70 mph, while driving on city streets, etc. Every time the vehicle stalls, it is INCREDIBLY dangerous. There is not always time to pull over to a safe location as the vehicle simply freezes up and won't move. This is a van which means that there could often be children in the vehicle. It is a danger to ourselves and to other vehicles around us. We were first told that this was an issue with wiring in the battery. The second time we took it in, we were told that it was because the auxiliary battery needed to be replaced. Now, we're told that we need to replace the generator. Please note that the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica has known electronic issues with the vehicle stalling. The vehicle is at a Chrysler Dealership for the third time this month for diagnostic evaluation and repairs. The error message has been confirmed by the dealership.
My brake boosters failed causing me to not be able to stop adequately. The brakes would not fully compress.
The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V538000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
UNKNOWN/RECALL NOT BEING FIXABLE FOR MONTHS: due to a recall from mid-2024 which cannot be fixed, the vehicle is no longer safe to have parked in my garage, near my home, next to other vehicles, and is now not able to be used as intended. The risk of fire and/or explosion should require a manufacturer buyback. These vehicles have been dangerous for MONTHS.
My breaks stopped worked due to a failed brake booster. I would compress the brake and it would let out air and not adequately stop. When it did finally stop, it would propel me forward. This became very dangerous for my family and I
6/20/24: Driving on highway. Message comes up "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut off Soon" and a turtle lights up on the dashboard. I pull over and turn van off. I turn it back on and message is still there. I turn it off again and this time quickly open and close the door to completely shut down the electric. Turn it back on and message is gone but check engine light is on. Drive home and then drive more during the evening with check engine light on the entire time. 6/21/24: Start the car in the morning and check engine light is off. Able to travel for about an hour and then, driving on highway, same message comes up and I do the same thing. Check engine light stays on again but message goes away. Drive for about 20 minutes and the message comes up again. Again I pull over and do the same series of things as described. Car allows me to drive but check engine light is on. Do not drive the car for the rest of the weekend. 6/24/24: Start car in the morning. Check engine light is on as I drive it about 5 minutes to my local mechanic. He runs the codes and does the research and tell me that I need a new transmission and it is under warranty. I pick up the van later to take it to dealer and the check engine light is off. Drive to dealer and now the dealer says there is nothing they can do if the light doesn't go back on. They are saying that I have to experience this same problem on a highway with my family in the car for them to fix it even though there is a recall on this transmission.
The transmission shifts/jerks hard and hesitates/struggles to accelerate at times. It has even shutdown numerous times while I was at a traffic light.
While @ highway speed this vehicle lost ipower steering, power braking and the engine stalled out…this latest event prompted my complaint and was the third time I have experienced this situation. In all three incidents I was simply able to coast to the side of the road and stop. Thankfully after a few attempts to restart the vehicle started and ran. It was very frightening given it lost total power on all three occasions without notice or warning it like it just turns itself off. I contacted RollX vans the folks from whom we purchased this handicap transport vehicle and they informed me of a safety recall V53 for 2017-2019 Pacificas. The recall details the exact symptoms of what I experienced. I took the recall information and the vehicle to a local dealership Larry H Miller Chrysler, Tucson AZ and they mostly dismissed my account and said there is NO recall on my VIN despite the V53 recall. They said the tech couldn’t get it to duplicate and situation. They said they checked the grounds and it’s all OK. I am not convinced considering the timeline of their alleged repair and the answers I rec’d from the service writer when I asked specifics about the repair. I suspect they simply test drove it when it did not duplicate the situation they said it’s OK.
Engine was running low on coolant due to malfunction of heads Computer did not warn me or temperature senser gage showed normal Engine needs replaced now
