THE AIR CONDITIONER NO LONGER WORKS. IT WENT OUT AT LESS THAN 50 THOUSAND MILES. SMOKE CAME THROUGH THE VENTS INTO THE CABIN. THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SMELL AND LOUD NOISES. I NO LONGER USE THE A/C AND CONSEQUENTLY DON'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNLESS I HAVE TO. HOW CAN AN A/C GO OUT AT LESS THAN 50 THOUSAND MILES? I STILL CONSIDER THE VEHICLE NEW!
I HAVE HAD MANY THINGS GO WRONG WITH MY CHRYSLER T& C MINIVAN SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW IN 2002. THE LATEST PROBLEM IS THE CLOCKSPRING WHICH HAS BEEN A PROBLEM IN OLDER MODELS. IN FACT A RECALL WAS ISSUED ON 1996-200 YR MODELS. I BELIEVE THE PART IS STILL DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY CHRYSLER. THEY INSIST ON CHARCHING ME FOR THE REPAIR, $172.00. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE COVERED. PLEASE ADVISE.
AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING A COLLISION.*MR PASSENGER AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER WAS INJURED (CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY). *NM
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ENGINE STALLING WHILE ON THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS THEN NO LONGER ABLE TO START, AND WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. RESULT SHOWED THAT THE BODY AND TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK
THE CONSUMER RECEIVED THE RADIO VENT SLOT RECALL FOR HIS 2002 TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS AN ALTERNATE SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM WHICH WOULD ADDRESS THE SOURCE OF THE MOISTURE FROM THE A/C DUCT . *NM THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAS REPLACED THE FACTORY RADIO WITH A HIGH POWERED AFTRMARKET DVD/CD PLAYER. *JB
I HAVE A 2002 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY THAT HAS AN AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT THAT ILLUMINATES INTERMITTENTLY. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE I LEARNED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON SEVERAL OF THESE VEHICLES IN 2002 TO ADDRESS AN ISSUE WITH A CLOCKSPRING. THIS ISSUE CAUSES INTEGRAL SAFETY FEATURES, SUCH AS THE HORN AND AIR BAG, TO FAIL ON OCCASION. I FIRST CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT MY VIN DID NOT COME UP AS BEING ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER DIRECTLY AND GOT THE SAME ANSWER. THE ISSUE MAY NOT COME UP ON A VIN SEARCH, BUT IT CERTAINLY DOES IMPACT MY VEHICLE. I HAVE TRIED TO OBTAIN AUTHORIZATION TO HAVE THE CLOCKSPRING REPLACED AT CHRYSLER'S EXPENSE, TO NO AVAIL. AS THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE MATTER INVESTIGATED.*AK
RECALL CAMPAIGN: 2002 CHRYSLER RADIO VENT SLOTS (CODE D48). *BF THE DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE RECALL 04V-531000 BECAUSE AN AFTERMARKET RADIO WAS INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. *NM
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT AN AIR BAG PROBLEM. THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYED ON. OWNER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS YEAR,MAKE, AND MODEL. WHAT ORIGINALLY STARTED OUT AS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BECAME CONSTANT. *AK
ON JANUARY 17, 2004, I HAD COSTCO INSTALL 4 NEW MICHELIN X-RADIAL DT TIRES ON MY CHRYSLER MINIVAN. ON DECEMBER 29, 2004, I NOTICED A BULGE THE SIZE OF 1/2 TENNIS BALL IN THE SIDEWALL OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE. I IMMEDIATELY HAD IT REPLACED BY COSTCO. ON JANUARY 28, 2005, I HAD MY CHRYSLER DEALER REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS, REPLACED AT COSTCOS EXPENSE, BECAUSE OF DAMAGE DONE TO THEM DURING THE INITIAL TIRE INSTALLATION. ON FEBRUARY 15, 2005, WITHOUT A "LOW PRESSURE" WARNING, AND WITHOUT STRIKING ANY ROAD HAZARD, THE LEFT FRONT TIRE EXPLODED. IN THE ALMOST 2 MILES IT TOOK TO CROSS 5 LANES OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC, THE TIRE DISINTEGRATED INTO WHAT MICHELIN CALLS A "RUN FLAT" CONDITION, DAMAGING THE WHEEL VALUED AT JUST OVER $600. OF COURSE WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE TIRE EXHIBITED "RUN FLAT" CONDITIONS BUT THAT WAS ONLY AFTER WHAT POSSIBLY WAS A BLOW OUT DUE TO ANOTHER DEFECT IN THE SIDEWALL. MICHELINS RESPONSE WAS THAT THERE WASN'T ENOUGH TIRE LEFT FOR THEM TO DETERMINE THE REAL CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. MR. TERRY VANCHOFF, ONE OF MICHELIN'S CUSTOMER CLAIMS MANAGERS ALSO SAID, "WITH THE NEW GOVERNMENT RULINGS AFTER THE FIRESTONE DEBACLE, EVEN THOUGH THEY MAY HAVE PAID MY CLAIM IN THE PAST DUE TO GOOD CUSTOMER RELATIONS, NOW, THE GOVERNMENT TREATS EVERY PAID CLAIM AS ADMITTING THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT AND COUNTS AGAINST THEM. IF THIS IS TRUE, I THINK IT DOES A DISSERVICE TO THE CONSUMER AS WELL AS THE COMPANY. I FOR ONE, A LIFELONG MICHELIN TIRE PURCHASER, WILL ACTIVELY LOOK TO OTHER TIRE MANUFACTURERS FOR MY FUTURE NEEDS BECAUSE OF POOR CUSTOMER RELATIONS REGARDING MY CLAIM. AFTER EXTENSIVE REVIEW OF THE NHTSA COMPLAINT FILES, I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT SO MANY "COINCIDENCES" OCCURRED WITH MICHELIN SIDEWALL FAILURES TO SO MANY "UNINFORMED" CONSUMERS THAT THEY WERE ALL CAUSED BY UNDERINFLATED TIRES OR DAMAGE DUE TO STRIKING A ROAD HAZARD. IN CONCLUSION, PLEASE CHECK THE FOLLOWING DOT #'S FOR SIDEWALL ISSUES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT: M30DHU8X4303; 3103; 4503 & 3403. *NM
THE CLOCK SPRING WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED AT MY COST. THE 2001 MODELS HAD THIS PROBLEM AS A RECALL. *NM
THE REAR RIGHT SLIDING DOOR FAILED. CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED ABOUT EXITING FROM VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY. *AK
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND GOES OFF INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES STAYS ON FOR WEEKS, THEN GOES OFF FOR MONTHS, THEN COMES BACK ON. *NM
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE ABS LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE SPEED SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND REPLACED IT. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED CONSUMER HEARD A CLICKING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. DEALERSHIP WILL BE NOTIFIED. *AK
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED 2002 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYING ON AND OFF FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE AIRBAG LIGHT FIXED, AND THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON DUE TO THE SEAT BELT LEFT TENSIONER BEING DEFECTIVE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE WHOLE UNIT ON THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER. THE COST WAS $150.75 FOR THE CONSUMER TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER FELT THAT IT WAS CHRYSLER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE COST. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE CONSUMER WAS VERY UNHAPPY THAT CHRYSLER DID NOT REIMBURSING HIM FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONSUMER WAS AN EMPLOYEE OF CHRYSLER, HE WORKED AT A MANFACTURING PLANT IN MICHIGAN AND HAD ONLY PURCHASED CHRYSLER VEHICLES FOR 34 YEARS. THE CONSUMER DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE WITH CHRYSLER. THEY ADVISD HIM CALL NHTSA. *AK
RECALL #D37 UPPER POWER STEERING HOSE REPLACED @ 17,590 MILES. THEN ON JAN. 2005 POWER STEERING VIBRATING, POWER STEERING OIL LOW OIL LEAK ( 18,211 MILES) NOV. 2005 OIL LEAK AGAIN DON KOTT ADDED OIL ---JAN. 19,2006 TOOK IT TO DON KOTT AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THE RACK AND PINION SEAL IS LEAKING OIL. SINCE MY WARRANTY WAS OVER AT OCT 2005 BUT MY MILEAGE IS ONLY 25,000 MILES. THE ESTIMATE REPAIR COST WILL BE $1,100 DOLLARS. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AT 25,000 MILES AND IT WAS AN DEFECTIVE PARTS. I WISH THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER WILL RECALL THIS PART BECAUSE THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT LOTS OF THE MINI-VAN RACK AND PINION HAS FAILED, THERE WERE THREE MINI-VAN AT THE DEALER FOR SIMILAR PROBLEM AT THIS DATE. THE DRIVER NOTICED A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHILE STARTING UP THE VEHICLE. APPARENTLY THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC PLACED THE VEHICLE ON A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. THE CODES WERE DISPLAYED ON THE COMPUTER, THEN RESET. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. THE DRIVER INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS RECURRED MORE THAN ONCE. *AK
THIS RELATES TO CASE EA05009. I HAVE A 2002 CHRYSLER T&C AND THE LIGHTS FLICKER AND DIM. THEY'VE NEVER GONE OFF. *NM
2002 TOWN AND COUNTY LXI SOMETIMES LIFTGATE WILL NOT OPEN WITH POWER BUTTON, REMOTE CONTROL, NOR MANUALLY. A DINGING/BELL NOISE OCCURS WHEN IT FAILS. SOMETIMES POWER SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE WITH POWER BUTTON NOR REMOTE CONTROL. DOOR BEGINS PROCESS TO CLOSE AND BEFORE IT LATCHES, IT KICKS BACK OPEN. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2004 FROM MY PARENTS WHO PURCHASED IT NEW FROM THE DEALER. THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS FROM TIME OF PURCHASE, BUT THE DEALER COULD NEVER GET IT TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO BE REOCCURRING AND HAPPENING MORE OFTEN.INCIDENT DATE AND FAILURES ONLY REFLECT MY EXPERIENCES, NOT MY PARENTS.INCIDENT DATE IS ONLY FOR THE FIRST, BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN MANY. I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE MY VEHICLE IN AND HAVE THIS FAILURE/PROBLEM RESOLVED, BUT WANTED TO FIND OUT ABOUT OTHER COMPLAINTS, SINCE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. I DID READ ABOUT ANOTHER INVESTIGATION CONCERNING A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE LIFTGATE.
ENGINE LOSES POWER. SMOKE SMELL FILLS CABIN. LOSS OF A/C. CAUSE IS A/C COMPRESSOR LOCKING UP. SMOKE IS FROM BELT SPINING ON PULLEY. DEALER REPLACED A/C COMPRESSOR UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BY CHRYSLER. PROBLEM SEEMED RESOLVED. 8 MONTHS LATER SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN. DEALER WILL NOT FIX BECAUSE VEHICLE IS NOW BEYOND WARRANTY. THAT VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY IS NOT DISPUTED, HOWEVER SINCE CHRYSLER EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO FIX THE FIRST TIME THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE COMPRESSOR (OR ANOTHER COMPONENT CAUSING THE COMPRESSOR TO FAIL) WHICH STILL EXISTED OR IT WOULD NOT HAVE FAILED THE SECOND TIME. CHRYSLER HOWEVER WILL NOT REPLACE THE SECOND TIME. THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS DEFECT IF THIS HAPPENED TO SOMEONE WHO COULDN'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND TURN OFF THE A/C BEFORE THE BELT EITHER BREAKS OR WORSE YET CATCHES FIRE.*AK
AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL.*AK
THICK WHITE SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE BACK OF THE VAN - IT HAD A BURNING SMELL. PEOPLE ON THE HIGHWAY WERE MOVING AWAY FROM US BECAUSE OF IT. WE BROUGHT IT TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT THE TUBES THAT FEED ANTIFREEZE TO THE BACK OF THE VAN (TO HEAT THE BACK) WERE ALL ROTTED, AND LEAKED ANTIFREEZE ALL OVER THE EXHAUST. HE SAID IT WAS A RESULT OF "POOR MANUFACTURING." THE CAR IS A 2002 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY AND ONLY HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT. THE WARRANTY JUST RAN OUT 2 MONTHS AGO.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH VEHICLE JERKED AND VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. HOWEVER, MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
AS I WAS DRIVING MY 2002 TOWN & COUNTRY, I TURNED THE AIR CONDITIONER ON. THE CAR BEGAN TO SMOKE AND STALLED OUT. I HAVE HAD THE AIR CONDITIONER REPLACED 2 TIMES. THE VAN NO LONGER STALLS AND SMOKES, BUT WHEN THE A/C IS TURNED ON, THERE IS A LOUD NOISE AND THE CAR JERKS. *NM
KNOCKING IN THE FRONT WHEEL AREA. TECHNICIAN CLAIMS IT MAY BE A BUSHING OR A STRUT (OR A BUSHING ON THE STRUT).
RACK AND PINION LEAKING. I WAS TOLD BY A TECHNICIAN THAT I COULD LOSE MY STEERING IF NOT FIXED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.
POWER STEERING PUMP FAILURE. *JB
CONSUMER APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE AND IT FAILED TO HOLD. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
HEADLIGHTS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. TOOK VEHICLE TO CHRYSLER , AND WAS TOLD THAT THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH SHORTED OUT, AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK *TC
RECEIVED RECALL FOR UPPER POWER STEERING RETURN HOSE. DEALERSHIP STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN THIS MATTER TAKEN CARE OF YET. *BF RECALL #04V386000. *SC
2002 CHRSYLER TOWN AND COUNTRY WITH AIRBAG PROBLEMS. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT FLICKERS AND AFTER IT FLICKERS IT STAYS ON. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE AIRBAGS PROBABLY DO NOT WORK DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *KB THE DEALERSHIP HAS ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE AIR BAG PROBLEM OVER 10 TIMES. *JB
THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO HOLD THE LIGHT SWITCH TO KEEP THE HEADLIGHTS ON. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND REPLACED THE LIGHT SWITCH.*AK
THE AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUED TO STAY ON. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB SENSOR LIGHT COMES ON AT ANY SPEED BUT MOSTLY WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. *TC
WHILE STEERING THE VEHICLE LEFT OR RIGHT A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT. THE VEHICLE VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *JB
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 38,048, CAR HAD TO BE TOWED, AS IT WAS A SAT, BEFORE A TRIP WE TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP, HOPING IT WAS A SIMPLE FIX FROM THE CODES. THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT BUT I FELT IT QUALIFIED FOR "IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY AND YOU HAVE TO GET A REPAIR FROM OTHER THAN AN AUTHORIZED DEALER...", CHRYSLER SAID THIS ONLY IS FOR THINGS LIKE BATTERIES OR WATER PUMPS EVEN THOUGH THESE LITTLE DETAILS ARE NOT STATED IN THE 7 YEAR/ 70,000 MILE WARRANTY. IN A RUDE PHONE MESSAGE I WAS TOLD, (AFTER APPEALING TO CHRYSLER FOR REIMBURSEMENT UNDER WARRANTY), THAT THEY WOULD PAY $1.000 AND THAT WAS THERE FINAL OFFER AND THAT THE VAN WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, WHICH IT IS. I HATE THIS CAR AND IF WE DID NOT HAVE IT EQUIPPED WITH HAND CONTROLS AND A SCOOTER LIFT FOR MY HUSBAND(PART OF THE NEED FOR A IMMEDIATE REPAIR) I WOULD SALE IT. IT WAS ALSO IN 4 TIMES FOR THE NON-FUNCTIONING AUTOMATIC PASSENGER DOOR LATCH; TO HAVE A BATTERY REPLACED(29,583 MILES); FUEL TANK; POWER STEERING HOSE; AND IT STILL MAKES A RUBBING SOUND AT LOW SPEEDS THAT THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY(IN 2X FOR THAT NOISE). I THINK CHRYSLER SHOULD HONOR THEIR WARRANTY BUT I FEEL AT A LOSS TO FIGHT THEM. I WILL TRY TO LET IT BE KNOWN WHERE I CAN THE DETAILS OF THE SITUATION. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHEN DRIVING 65 MPH ON WET SURFACE, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD ENGAGE WITHOUT WARNING OR WOULD BE HARD TO SHUT OFF. *JB
THE MID ROW PASSENGER SIDE SEAT FLIPPED FORWARD WHILE OCCUPIED. AS A RESULT, THE OCCUPANT SMASHED HIS HEAD ON THE BACK OF ANOTHER SEAT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL WINDOW EXPLODED OUT OF THE FRAME WITHOUT INCIDENT. THERE WERE 5 PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT. *AK *TT
THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE POWER STEERING WHICH WAS BEING RECALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER. IN THE PROCESS, NOT ONLY DID THE CONSUMER LOOSE STEERING CONTROL BUT THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING SMOKE CAME FROM THE SPEAKERS AND THEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. *BF *NM
STEERING WAS STICKY, BINDING, AND HARD TO STEER. INSTALLED STEERING GEAR, C-4743142AH. INSPECT POWER STEERING.*AK
THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED GOING ON AN OFF AT FIRST AND NOW IS ON CONSISTNTLY. DEALER CLAIMS THAT IT IS A FAULTY CLOCK SPRING WHICH I HAVE HEARD HAS BEEN RECALLED ON SOME OF THE OLDER MODELS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. THIS VAN HAS BEEN A BEAR SINCE THE BEGINNING AND IT JUST NEVER SEEMS TO QUIT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH CONSUMER HEARD POP NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR, AND SUDDENLY STARTED SMELLING BURNING MATERIAL. THE SMOKE AND HEAVY FLAMES WHERE COMING FROM THE RIGHT SPEAKER. DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, AND THEY STATED WE NEVER HEARD SUCH A THING.*AK DRIVERSIDE REAR RADIO SPEAKER CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNT VEHICLE TO THE GROUND. *TC
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER SHIFTED FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING. *NM THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON, THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO PARK, THE GEAR SHIFTER LEVER DIDN'T MOVE, THE GAS PEDAL WORKED FINE BUT HAD FROZEN UP IN THE PARK POSITION. THE AIR BAG DID NOT WORK AND THE SEAT BELT DIDN'T WORK. *SC *JB
RADIO AND CLOCK WOULD NOT TURN ON WHEN CAR STARTED. THEN IT TURNED INTO THE RADIO AND AIR CONDITIONING UNIT WOULD NOT TURN ON - INTERMITTENTLY. THIS BEGAN IN AUGUST. 2004, BUT STOPPED IN OCTOBER. 2004. THEN IT BEGAN AGAIN IN EARLY APRIL 2005 OR ON DAYS WHEN IT WAS WARMER AND/OR WET. PERIODICALLY THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WINDOWS WILL NOT WORK, ALSO. THIS INCIDENT OCCURSRED WHEN THE CAR WAS RUNNING, AND DID NOT MATTER IF IT WAS MOVING OR NOT. HOWEVER, IT DID NOT OCCUR IN TEMPERATURES LOWER THAN 45 DEGREES, OR SO. DEALERSHIP KEPT IT FOR TWO DAYS IN 2004 AND COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. TRIED TO SAY IT NEEDED A NEW ELECTRONIC WIRING HARNESS WHICH WOULD INCUR A PERSONAL COST OF OVER $4,000 FOR A CAR THAT WAS BARELY 2 YEARS OLD.
PROBLEMS WITH REMOTE ENTRY ON 2002 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY.*MR THE REMOTE WORKS FROM AS FAR AWAY AS 600+ FEET AND AT TIMES THIS PRESENTS A PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN THE CONSUMER HAS COME OUT OF THE HOUSE TO GET IN THE CAR, AFTER IT HAD RAINED THE NIGHT BEFORE, AND FOUND THAT ONE OF THE SLIDING DOORS WAS OPEN AND THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS WET. SIMILAR INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS SHOPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *NM
PROBLEMS WITH POWER STEERING PUMP ON 2002 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. *MR THERE WAS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM WITH THE CONSUMERS POWER STEERING PUMP. THE STEERING PUMP MADE A NOISE WHEN A RIGHT TURN WAS MADE. THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAD COME ON DUE TO A LOOSE CONNECTOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHICH WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOISY, WHICH WAS POSSIBLY DUE TO DIRT. *SC *JB
DRIVER AND PASSENGER POWER WINDOW MOTOR FAILURES. THEY WORKED OFF AND ON SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE THE ACTUAL COMPLETE FAILURE. OFTEN NOT ROLLING UP IN THE RAIN, EXTREME HEAT, AND HIGH OZONE DAYS CREATING HEATH DANGERS AND MAJOR DRIVING DISTRACTIONS TO CHILDREN AND ADULT PASSENGERS. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THESE WINDOW MOTORS. THERE ARE SEVERAL WEBSITES WITH HUNDREDS OF OWNERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS BAD BUSINESS FOR CHRYSLER TO CONTINUE TO LIE AND COVER THIS UP. THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE EXTREMELY OVER PRICED CONSIDERING THE OBVIOUS DEFECT. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS AND OTHER DEFECTS THAT SEEM TO BE OVERWHELMING THE MAJORITY OF TOWN AND COUNTRY OWNERS. *NM
I OWN A 2002 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY LXI MINI VAN. THE PROBLEM I HAVE NOTICED IS WITH THE PASSENGER SEATS (SECOND ROW). THEY ARE BUCKETS (NOT BENCH) AND CAN SWIVEL FORWARD TO ALLOW ACCESS TO THE THIRD ROW. IN ORDER TO PLACE THE SEAT BACK INTO POSITION AFTER A PERSON HAS ENTERED OR EXITED THE VEHICLE, YOU MUST SLAM THE SEAT BACK INTO THE FLOOR. IF THIS IS NOT DONE HOWEVER, THE SEAT APPEARS TO GO BACK INTO PLACE. IF YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCED WITH THIS, THE SEAT DOES NOT LOCK BACK INTO THE FLOOR. APPROXIMATELY ONE AND A HALF YEARS AGO, MY MOTHER ENTERED THE BACK SEAT AND THEN PULLED THE SECOND ROW SEAT BACK, TO WHERE SHE THOUGHT IT WAS IN PLACE. MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS THEN PLACED INTO THE CAR SEAT IN THAT SECOND ROW SEAT. WE DROVE AWAY IN THE PARKING LOT BUT AT THE FIRST STOP WITH BRAKES THAT SEAT SLAMMED FORWARD, CRUSHING MY DAUGHTER'S FACE INTO THE HARD PLASTIC SEAT IN FRONT OF HER. THERE IS ALSO A SORT OF HARD PLASTIC HANDLE ON THAT FRONT SEAT THAT IS RIGHT AT CHEEK LEVEL. MY DAUGHTER FORTUNATELY CAME AWAY WITH A BRUISED CHEEK AND BLACK EYE, BUT I FELT VERY LUCKY THAT SHE DID NOT FRACTURE ANY OF HER FACIAL BONES. WE HAVE BEEN VERY CAREFUL SINCE, BUT JUST 2 WEEKS AGO, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME WITH MY TWO YEAR OLD SON. AGAIN, SOMEONE WHO DID NOT REALIZE HOW HARD YOU MUST SLAM THE SEAT DOWN TO GET IT TO LOCK INTO PLACE GOT INTO THE BACK SEAT. AGAIN, AT THE FIRST STOP, MY SON SLAMMED FORWARD IN HIS CAR SEAT, CRUSHING HIS FACE INTO THE FRONT SEAT. HE TOO CAME AWAY WITH A BLACK EYE AND AGAIN WE FELT FORTUNATE THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER INJURY. I SIMPLY WANTED TO REPORT THIS HAZARD, HOPING THAT CHRYSLER WILL THINK ABOUT THE DESIGN OF THESE SEATS. THE SEATS SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO APPEAR IN NORMAL POSITION WITHOUT BEING LOCKED.*AK
