2006 CHRYSLER TOWN COUNTRY. VEHICLE USES APPROXIMATELY 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 2,000 MILES. THIS HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW. WAS TOLD BY DEALER NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION. OIL USAGE IS THROUGH EXHAUST SYSTEM THAT CAUSES DAMAGE TO CATALYTIC CONVERTOR THAT RESTRICTED EXHAUST GAS FLOW. VEHICLE RESTRICTED EXHAUST GAS FLOW CAUSED ENGINE POWER LOSS SUFFICIENT ENOUGH NOT TO BE ABLE TO MANEUVERS ROADWAY GRADES. VEHICLE NOT BEING ABLE TO MAINTAIN POSTED SPEED LIMIT CAUSED VEHICLES BEHIND TO PASS THAT ALMOST CAUSED HEAD ON ACCIDENT. CATALYTIC CONVERTOR WAS REPLACE AT OWNERS EXPENSE FOR SAFETY REASONS. WAS TOLD BY DEALER VEHICLE IS MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD AND OUT OF WARRANTY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VENT FANS STOPPED WORKING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY VAN SHUT OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED FIVE TIMES VERY SCARY. WE HAD TOOK IT TO THE HONDA AND THEY TOLD US THEY CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT DO NEXT. WE USE THE VAN FOR ARE 4 KIDS. THANK YOU. *TR
RIGHT AFTER FILLING UP HER 2006 TOWN AND COUNTRY WITH GAS, MY DAUGHTER AND 2 SMALL CHILDREN PULLED OUT OF THE GAS STATION INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION AND THE VAN SPUTTERED AND STALLED OUT RIGHT IN A BUSY INTERSECTION. THE VAN DID RESTART AND THANK GOD NO ONE WAS HURT OR KILLED. THEN 2 MIN. LATER IT STALLED AGAIN. IT STARTED AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT HOME. I AM HER FATHER AND HAVE SOME BACKGROUND IN AUTO MECHANICS. I DID SOME CHECKING AND IT SEEMS THERE IS SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE CHARCOAL CANISTER ON THE FUEL TANKS THAT ARE THE PROBLEM WITH THESE VANS. SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. I KNOW IF MY DAUGHTER AND GRANDDAUGHTERS GET HURT OR WORSE, I WILL SUE THE PANTS OFF CHRYSLER. *TR
HAVE OWNED THIS UNIT FOR OVER 1 YEAR, AFTER PURCHASE IN 2013, NOTED THAT ON FUEL TANK FILL UP, AFTER LEAVING THE GAS STATION, THE ENGINE WOULD EITHER DIE, OR STUMBLE. POTENTIAL HAZARD AT THE STOP LIGHT PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. WOULD ONLY HAPPEN AFTER FULL FILL UP AND NOT EVERY TIME. BEING AWARE OF THIS I COULD PLAN ACCORDINGLY. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THE STUMBLE OR DIE HAPPENS WITH THE PURGE SYSTEM ACTIVATION AFTER ENG START AND SHORT DRIVING, IE, LEAVING GAS STATION . IF YOU DO SOME RESEARCH ON LINE YOU WILL FIND THE THREADS THAT LEAD YOU TO THE SAME CONCLUSION. AS A MECHANIC, I DO FEEL THAT THIS ISSUE, AS REPORTED IN THE PRESS, IS AS BIG A PROBLEM IF NOT MORE THAN THE GM KEY RECALL ISSUES. ( I HAVE ONE OF THOSE CARS TOO. ) *TR
I HAD JUST FILLED UP THE GAS TANK AND WAS DEPARTING A GAS STATION. IT WAS A LARGE PARKING LOT, SO I WAS ACCELERATING TO MERGE ONTO US-19 IN HOMOSSASSA SPRINGS, FL AND THE ENGINE STALLED COMPLETELY. LUCKILY, WE HAD NOT EXITED THE GAS STATION PARKING LOT AND I WAS ABLE TO STEER OUT OF TRAFFIC AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, WITHOUT INJURY, OR ACCIDENT. EVER SINCE THE THIRD OCCURRENCE AND A REVIEW OF ONLINE LITERATURE, WE NEVER COMPLETELY FILL UP THE GAS TANK ANYMORE. *TR
ENGINE STALLED AFTER REFUELING. *TR
VEHICLE ENGINE COMPLETELY FAILED. FROZEN, NEVER TO TURN AGAIN. OIL LEVELS WERE FINE, OIL CHANGE RELIGIOUSLY. ENGINE BURNED OIL LIKE CRAZY, BUT I WAS AWARE SO I WAS ON TOP OF IT. OUTCOME: NEW ENGINE AT THE COST OF $4000. FAILURE WAS: A PISTON BEARING THAT JUST FELL APART. ENGINES DO NOT FAIL AT 79K UNLESS THEY ARE POORLY BUILT. CHRYSLER SHOULD REIMBURSE. *TR
ENGINE STALL AFTER REFUELLING
THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED SO NYS INSPECTION COULD BE PASSED. IN MAY OF 2014 I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS BAD AGAIN & NEEDS A REPLACEMENT BUT THE SHOP CAN'T GET IT BECAUSE THE REGULATIONS HAVE CHANGED TO USE CA STANDARDS AND THE UNIT US NOT AVAILABLE. THIS US RESULTING IN UNREASONABLE EXPENSE. *TR
I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE INCIDENTS WITH MY VAN OF IT TOTALLY SHUTTING DOWN WHILE DRIVING BOTH AT HIGH SPEEDS AND LOW. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED BY CHRYSLER AND THEY REPLACED A CAM SHAFT SENSOR TWICE. THE VEHICLE ALWAYS RESTARTS BUT ALL BUT ONE OF THE INCIDENCES WHEN IT SHUT DOWN HAVE LEFT ME/US IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. CHRYSLER TELLS ME THEY CAN NOT DIAGNOSE UNLESS I DO NOT RESTART THE VEHICLE. I HAVE A CASE # WITH CHRYSLER OF [XXX]. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS ON VACATION IN FLORIDA 2/14 AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND IT WAS TO DANGEROUS TO NOT RESTART AND GO. 2006 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PROBLEMS WITH FUEL TANK AND VEHICLE STALLING *TGW AFTER FUELING, THE FILL TANK HOSE CLICKED OFF. NO FURTHER TOPPING OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WOULD TRAVEL FROM ONCE CITY BLOCK TO SOMETIMES TEN, THEN THE ENGINE WOULD STALL.
AT 49,000 MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. KNOWING I PROBABLY COULDN'T AFFORD THE REPAIRS AT OUR DEALERSHIP, I DECIDED TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR THE VEHICLE MYSELF. THE CHECK ENGINE CODE READ P0480, A CODE NOTING A PROBLEM WITH THE COOLING FAN SYSTEM. AFTER RESEARCHING THE CODE ONLINE, I REALIZED THAT I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT TURNS OUT THE TOWN AND COUNTRY, IN WINTER WEATHER, TENDS TO HAVE COOLING FANS FREEZE UP. AS A RESULT, THE COOLING FAN RELAY WILL BLOW OUT. AS I WAITED FOR MY NEW RELAY TO ARRIVE IN THE MAIL ($47 ONLINE, $90 AT YOUR DEALERSHIP) THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED OFF. THINKING THAT MAYBE THE VEHICLE HAD MADE A CLEAN TRIP, I CHECKED THE COMPUTER AGAIN. P0480 WAS STILL STORED WITHIN. THE NEXT DAY I RECEIVED MY NEW RELAY VIA MAIL, AND WENT TO INSTALL THE PART. UPON CALLING BROOKDALE LUTHER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO ACQUIRE THE LOCATION OF THE RELAY ON MY VEHICLE, THE SERVICE EMPLOYEE, THOUGH VERY HELPFUL, NOTED THAT CHRYSLER NEW OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT I WOULD NEED AN UPDATE TO MY VEHICLES COMPUTER ($120). IN RESPONSE TO MY QUESTION WHY, I WAS TOLD THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO KNOW WHEN THE FAN MOTOR WAS JAMMED TO TURN THE MOTOR OFF BEFORE BLOWING OUT THE RELAY. SO I COULD KEEP BUYING RELAYS, OR PAY THE $120. MY QUESTION IS THIS. IF CHRYSLER KNOWS OF A PROBLEM THAT COULD CAUSE A VEHICLE TO EVENTUALLY OVERHEAT, WHICH IN SOME CASES COULD CAUSE A FIRE, WHY WOULDN'T THEY ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE HAVING THE OIL CHANGED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHE WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS LOW ON OIL. THE OIL WAS REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS LATER WHILE HAVING THE OIL CHANGED BY THE SAME INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHE WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE MUST BE BURNING OIL BECAUSE IT WAS AGAIN EXTREMELY LOW ON OIL AND THERE WERE NO LEAKS. THE OIL WAS AGAIN REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS LATER WHILE PARKED THE OIL LIGHT BEGAN ILLUMINATING ON THE DASHBOARD. MORE OIL WAS ADDED TO THE VEHICLE AND THE OIL LIGHT STOPPED ILLUMINATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED IT WAS BURNING OIL AT A NORMAL RATE SO IT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUES TO RECUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO BURN OIL AND THE CLIMATE CONTROL FAILED. THE VEHICLE FEELS THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE, BUT THE DEALER HAS REPEATEDLY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE OIL WAS BURNING NORMALLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61000.

THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE REAR EVAPORATOR HAS LEAKED SINCE SEPTEMBER 2008 MAKING THE CAR ONLY 2 YEARS OLD TO HAVE TO HAVE SUCH AN EXPENSIVE FIX. *TR
MY 2006 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN USES 1 QUART OF OLL PER 3000 MILES AND IS UNDER WARRANTY. CHRYSLER SAYS THIS ENGINE CAN USE UP TO 1 QUART PER 1000 MILES AND HAS REFUSED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR

WE PURCHASED ON 11/06/07 A USED 2006 TOWN AND COUNTRY FROM VIN DEVERS (419-885-5111) IN TOLEDO OHIO. WE ALSO BOUGHT A SERVICE CONTRACT AND THE 8 YEAR 80K MILE WARRANTY AS THIS VEHICLE WOULD BE OUR FAMILY CAR. WE HAVE THREE YOUNG CHILDREN. THE FIRST TIME WE USED THE AC (05/19/08) WE DISCOVERED IT DIDN'T WORK. IT ONLY BLEW WARM AIR. WE CALLED VIN DEVERS AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED SO WE TRIED ANOTHER CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA. THEY TOO EXPLAINED IT WAS NOT COVERED. BOTH DEALERSHIP ADVISED NOT TO TAKE IT TO THE OTHER DEALERSHIP. AFTER SEVERAL PHONE CONVERSATIONS WITH BOTH DEALERSHIPS AND BEING TOTALLY CONFUSED WE FINALLY GAVE UP AND PAID FOR THE REPAIRS OURSELVES. I LATER CALLED CHRYSLER'S SERVICE CENTER IN AUBURN HILLS AND THEY EXPLAINED THE REPAIRS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED. I AM NOW WORKING WITH THE SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE THE MONEYS REFUNDED. THIS HAS BEEN A TOTAL MESS FROM THE INITIAL PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE AND I WOULD LIKE SOME ASSISTANCE. THE REPAIRS WERE FOR THE REAR EVAPORATOR COILS AND ALL NEW HOSES AND COSTED $670
