TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V139000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. UPDATED 7/8/15*CN
MULTIPLE TIMES THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. NO POWER BREAKS, NO POWER STEERING, POSSIBLY NO HEADLIGHTS, POSSIBLY NO AIRBAG...HAVE TO THROW INTO NEUTRAL AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART. DOESN'T ALWAYS RE-START EVERY TIME. VERY DANGEROUS. TAKEN TO TWO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS SINCE THE RECALL AND THEY SAY THAT OUR VIN IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. I DON'T CARE WHETHER IT IS THE ON THE RECALL LIST OR NOT!!! MY WIFE AND FOUR KIDS HAVE BEEN IN THE CAR ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN THIS OCCURRED. *JS
I HAVE A 2008 TOWN &COUNTRY TOURING MINIVAN FOR 3 YRS BUT NOW AT EVERY OIL CHANGE THE MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT THE CAR BURNING OIL AND IT STALLING AND AT HIGH SPEED IT GETS LITTLE SCARY. IT NEED A RECALL THE MOTOR SHOULD NOT BE BURNING OIL EVERY 3000 MILES AND I ALWAYS CHANGE MY OIL AT 2900 AND CLEANING THE MOTOR GETS EXPENSIVE EVERY OIL CHANGE FOR ME GOES FOR OVER $150.00 BECAUSE THE MOTOR BURNING OIL HAVE THIS CHECK BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS. *JS
VEHICLE IS BURNING 3 QTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, NO LEAKS, VERY DISAPPOINTING. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME LATE ONE NIGHT FROM WORK AND THE MINIVAN JUST DIED WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING. WHEN THE VAN WAS TAKEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP, THE MOTOR WAS BLOWN - VALVE SEATS ALL DROPPED IN ONE OF THE HEADS AND ALL OF THE MAIN BEARINGS IN THE CRANK CASE HAD DISINTEGRATED! SINCE THE DAY WE BOUGHT THIS VAN USED WITH 24,000 MILES IT HAD A PROBLEM OF "USING OR EATING" OIL AT ABOUT 1 QUART FOR EVERY 1,000 MILES. WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NORMAL!! I WAS FLABBERGASTED AS I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CAR (I'VE HAD OVER 15) THAT USED OIL LIKE THIS MINIVAN DID. IT DIDN'T BURN IT OR LEAK, IT WAS BEING USED SOMEHOW. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WE WERE LEFT WITH A $3,500 BILL TO REPLACE THE MOTOR. WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER, I GOT NO RESPONSE. PLEASE CHECK ONLINE FOR A WEBSITE CALLED REPAIR PAL - THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS MORE CASES OF THIS HAPPENING. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS SOMETHING NORMAL. IT SEEMS CHRYSLER KNEW SOMETHING AS THEY CAME OUT WITH A NEW 3.6 PENTASTAR MOTOR TO REPLACE THESE AILING MOTORS IN 2011-2012 AND ALL NEWER MODELS. HOPEFULLY THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE JUST LIKE MY WIFE AND I HERE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I'VE BEEN WAITING ON MY VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED FOR OVER 8 MONTHS FOR THE L25 RECALL , AT LEAST 2 DOZEN TIMES MY VEHICLE HAS SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND MORE THAN ONCE ON THE INTERSTATE . ALL I GET WHEN I CONTACT CHRYSLER IS A RECORDING SAYING IT'S SAFE TO DRIVE JUST REMOVE ALL OF THE KEYS AND THEY WILL CONTACT ME WHEN THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE . IT'S VERY INTENSE WITH A CAR FULL OF KIDS TRYING TO GET A CAR INTO NEUTRAL AT OVER 65 MPH WITH NO STEERING SO IT CAN BE RESTARTED . SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMEBODY IS KILLED . *TR
OUR VAN MAKES A GRINDING OR RUBBING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END/AXLES. IT IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN WE ARE TURNING. IT SOUNDS LIKE A FLUTTERING/GRINDING OF METAL OR SOME PART THAT IS REVOLVING WITH THE WHEELS AS WE DRIVE. *TR
A FEW MONTHS AGO I STARTED HAVING A PROBLEM WITH TURNING MY IGNITION TO THE "OFF" POSITION - IT WOULD ONLY GO AS FAR AS THE "ACC' POSITION. I TURNED THE VAN BACK ON, PUT THE VAN IN DRIVE AND BACK INTO PARK AGAIN THINKING I DIDN'T ENGAGE THE PARK ALL THE WAY. NOTHING. SO I DID IT AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN. IT FINALLY WENT TO THE OFF POSITION. AT FIRST THIS WAS HAPPENING ONCE IN A WHILE. THEN AFTER ABOUT A MONTH OF THAT, IT STARTED HAPPENING MAYBE HALF THE TIME AND NOW IT HAPPENS CLOSER TO 75% OF THE TIME. WHAT HAPPENS IF THE KEY GOES INTO THE "ACC" POSITION WHILE I DRIVING? WILL THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO THE VAN AS IT DID WITH THE GM VEHICLES? I COULD LOSE STEERING AND BRAKES AND MY AIRBAGS WOULDN'T WORK? I NEED THIS PROBLEM FIXED ASAP. I SHOULD ALSO TELL YOU THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE OTHER KEY ON THE KEY RING WITH THE VAN KEY. I AM VERY AFRAID FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS ON THE ROAD AND MY FAMILY WHILE WE'RE IN IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
I NOTICED AT APPROXIMATELY 48,000 MILES THAT MY 2008 TOWN & COUNTRY WAS BURNING OIL DURING USE WITH NO VISIBLE OIL LEAKS AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS 3 QUARTS OF OIL LOW WHEN CHECKED BEFORE DRAINING THE OIL. I HAVE BEEN CHECKING THE OIL ONCE PER MONTH SINCE. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS ABOUT 73,000 MILES ON IT AND IS BURNING APPROXIMATELY 1 QUART OF OIL EACH 1500 MILES DRIVEN. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE OF THIS SAME ISSUE. I AM LUCKY THAT I CAUGHT THE ISSUE BEFORE SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE AND REPAIRS WERE REQUIRED LIKE SOME OF THE OTHER RESPONDENTS. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR RECALL OR EXTENDED COVERAGE IN THE EVENT THAT SERIOUS ISSUES OCCUR. OTHER ISSUES I HAVE EXPERIENCED DURING MY OWNERSHIP OF THIS VEHICLE I PURCHASED NEW ARE THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE FRONT HUBS AND PREMATURE WEAR OF THE BRAKE COMPONENTS. THE FRONT HUBS HAVE FAILED ON EACH SIDE 3 TIMES ALREADY IN THE 73,000 MILES AND NOW THE DRIVERS SIDE HUB IS MAKING A LOUD NOISE AGAIN SIGNALING THAT IT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED SOON. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE WITH ANY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE OWNED. TO HAVE IT HAPPEN FOR THE 4TH TIME PRIOR TO 100,000 MILES WOULD SEEM TO BE A DEFECT. THE BRAKE COMPONENTS SEEM TO WEAR OUT EVERY 15,000 MILES AND THE ROTORS REQUIRE REPLACEMENT EACH TIME THE PADS WEAR OUT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A QUALITY ISSUE WITH THE PARTS BOTH NEW AND REPLACEMENT. *TR

THE DEALER DID NOT PROVIDE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. OUR VAN MAKES A GRINDING OR RUBBING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END/AXLES. IT IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN WE ARE TURNING. IT SOUNDS LIKE A FLUTTERING/GRINDING OF METAL OR SOME PART THAT IS REVOLVING WITH THE WHEELS AS WE DRIVE. WE HAD THE BRAKE ROTORS REPLACED AND PADS REPLACED. THAT HELPED WITH THE SHIMMY WE FELT WHILE BRAKING, BUT THE RUBBING/GRINDING SOUNDS PERSIST. WE ARE BEING TOLD IT MIGHT BE WHEEL BEARINGS. OTHERS HAVE REPORTED SIMILAR PROBLEM TO NHTSA FOR THIS MODEL/YEAR T&C MINI VAN. THERE IS A SERVICE NOTIFICATION K19 FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM ON SOME 2008 MODELS. I THINK OUR VAN VIN# SHOULD BE ADDED TO THAT LIST OF "SOME 2008 MODELS." *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE MAKING LEFT TURNS AT SPEEDS OF 5 TO 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, BUT THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE EACH TIME. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
THE FIRST INCIDENT THAT I COULD REMEMBER TOOK PLACE ON APRIL 1, 2014. ARRIVED HOME, PUT THE VAN IN PARK, AND COULD NOT REMOVE THE KEY FOB FROM THE IGNITION. THE LAST INCIDENT HAPPENED ON AUGUST 21, 2014 WHEN I ARRIVED AT AN EYE APPOINTMENT FOR MY DAUGHTER AND COULDN'T REMOVE THE KEY FOB. THE KEY FOB WOULD STOP AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE AND IT TOOK 7 MINUTES FOR ME TO REMOVE THE KEY FOB. BETWEEN THE 1ST INCIDENT AND THE LAST INCIDENT, THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 8 TIMES IN BETWEEN WHERE I CANNOT FULLY TURN OFF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE KEY FOB STOPS AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE AND CAN'T BE REMOVED. IF THIS IS PART OF RECALL L25, THEN MY VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO THE RECALL AND FIXED FOR FREE. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING!! TRIED TO BRING IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME TO FIX IT. EVEN IF THIS IS NOT DUE TO A RECALL, THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED FOR FREE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD TUNING VALVE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V373000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PARTS NEEDED WERE UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH, CYLINDER, AND GEAR SHIFT LEVER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND PROGRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V373000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) WERE UNAVAILABLE FOR REPAIR. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
I HAVE A 2008 TOWN AND COUNTRY TOURING. THIS INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED TWICE. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A LOUD CLICK THEN ALL ELECTRONICS FLASH AND THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF. THE STEERING, BRAKES EVERYTHING LOCKS UP BUT THE CAR CONTINUES TO MOVE. LUCKILY BOTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WE WHERE IN A NEIGHBORHOOD, DRIVING SLOW AND NO ONE WAS HURT. I HAVE HAD THIS INTO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE, BUT THEY CAN NEVER DIAGNOSE OR REPLICATE IT. BOTH TIMES THE DEALERSHIP HAS GUESSED AT WHAT IT COULD BE, BUT OBVIOUSLY THE FIRST TIME THEY WERE NOT CORRECT. SINCE THE DEALERSHIP CAN NOT DIAGNOSE IT, MY CONCERN IS THAT THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS SOMEONE COULD GET HURT. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE SITES THAT THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED TO COUNTLESS OTHER, BUT NO RECALL. NOW, READING ABOUT THE ISSUES THAT GM IS GOING THROUGH IT SOUNDS EXACTLY THE SAME, BUT CHRYSLER IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
CAR IGNITION SWITCH JUMPED FROM RUN TO ACCESSORY OR IN BETWEEN THEM. CAR STOPPED ABRUPTLY WITH NO INDICATORS PRESENT ON THE DASH BOARD. THIS HAPPENED 6 OR 7 TIMES MORE, ONCE WHILE DRIVING ON THE MAIN STREET OF MY TOWN. A DANGEROUS SITUATION WAS AVOIDED BY MY WRESTLING THE CAR TO THE CURB AND ONTO THE SIDEWALK. I REPORTED THE FAULT TO MY LOCAL DEALER AS AN IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM BUT CHRYSLER (FACTORY?) HAD THEM ADJUST THE FUEL TRIM, RESET THE MEMORY, AND PERFORM BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CAPACITIVE DISCHARGE. THIS DID NOT WORK! THE SWITCH STILL "TRIPS" TO THE ACCESSORY POSITION. HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES MORE SINCE THE "ATTEMPTED "REPAIR. *TR
WITH THE CAR SITTING IN THE GARAGE THE KEY WAS PLACED IN THE VEHICLE AND SHOWED NO SIGNS OF STARTING. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE WITH NO SUCCESS THE ALARM ACTIVATED WITH THE LIGHTS FLASHING AND THE HORN BLARING. IN ORDER TO SHUT OFF THE ALARM I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE UPON INSPECTION WAS TOLD THAT THE WIN MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER 12 DAYS I WAS FINALLY INFORMED THAT THE PART IS ON BACKORDER AND THAT THEY COULD NOT TELL ME WHEN IT WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I THEN CONTACED CHRYSTER CUSTOMER SERVICE WHERE I WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY CASE WOULD BE SENT TO THE SPECIAL PARTS DIVISION BECAUSE THIS DIVISION CAN SOMETIMES FIND PARTS FASTER THAN THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET A LOANER CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER WOULD NOT HELP ME FIND A REPLACEMENT CAR. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO END INSIGHT TO THIS ORDEAL. *TR
THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS NEED REPLACED. THERE IS A LOUD GROWLING OR RUBBING SOUND IN THE BACK. THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING THAT THERE IS NO RECALL. *TR
CAR HAS SUDDENLY SHUT OFF THREE TIMES IN PAST MONTH, WHILE BEING DRIVEN. HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP FOR PAST TWO WEEKS. CHRYSLER SAYS THAT THERE IS NO ETA FOR RECALLED PART TO BE DELIVERED. NO IDEA WHAT TO DO. NO KEYS ON KEYRING. AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. JUST PURCHASED CAR IN EARLY FEBRUARY. FIRST TIME IT SHUT DOWN, I WAS DOWNTOWN, IN TRAFFIC. SECOND AND THIRD TIMES, THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT IN TOWN. *TR

I AM A VICTIM OF THESE ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH THE 2008 T&C LIKE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS. DRIVING THE CAR LIGHTS WILL FLASH ON AND OFF, WIPERS WILL COME ON AND SOME TIMES THE CAR STOPS RUNNING. HERE IS ANOTHER COMPLAINT FROM ANOTHER OWNER, SAME SYMPTOMS, AND WE'RE NOT ALONE. SOMEBODY IS GOING TO GET KILLED. RECALL!? COMPLAINT - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, VISIBILITY WIPER THE FOLLOWING HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR OVER A WEEK NOW. WHEN STARTING MY VEHICLE, THE WIPERS INDEPENDENTLY TURNED ON, THE HEADLIGHTS FLASHED EVERY TIME THE WIPERS WHERE DEPLOYED INDEPENDENTLY. THE WIPER AND LIGHT ON/OFF WAS CHECKED. TURNED OFF AND ON, AND STILL BOTH ITEMS FLASHED, AND SWIPED BY THEMSELVES. JANUARY 29TH, OPERATOR WAS DRIVING 25 MPH, ALL DASH LIGHTS BLINKED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ESP, BRAKE, ENGINE,AND AIRBAG LIGHTS, AIRBAG LIGHT REMAINED ON, WIPERS DEPLOYED AND RPM GAUGE REDUCED TO 0 FOR 5 SECONDS. PULLED OVER TURNED IGNITION OFF, OPENED DOOR, SHUT DOOR RESTARTED VEHICLE. THE ABOVE REPEATED ITSELF, WITH MORE ERRORS, NOW THE DRIVER WINDOW CONTROLS DID NO LONGER WORK. THIS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY FOR 5 FULL MINUTES BEFORE RESUMING NORMAL OPERATION. IT SEEMS IT COULD BE RELATED TO A WIRING HARNESS ISSUE, OR LEAKING DOOR SEALS LETTING THE WIRES GET WET AND SHORT OUT. WE NEED HELP. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN RESIDENTIAL AREA, VAN WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF (STALL) WITHOUT NOTICE. RADIO/DVD WOULD CONTINUE. MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE SHUT OFF IS THAT THERE IS NO POWER STEERING AND THE BRAKES OULD NOT WORK! IT'S HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE NEXT DAY THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE ONLY CODE WAS EGR VALVE CODE. TECHNICIAN DID NOT CONNECT IT TO THE ENGINE FAILURE. I HAVE HAD THIS 2008 T&C SINCE 2009. BOUGHT IT ONE YEAR OLD WITH 20,000 MILES. AFTER THE FIRST OIL CHANGED I NOTICED THAT OIL WAS BEING CONSUMED SOMEWHERE. IT WASN'T BURNING OUT THE TAIL PIPE (NO BLUE SMOKE ANYWHERE, ANYTIME), SO THE ENGINE MUST HAVE BEEN USING IT. WHEN I CALLED THE CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR ENGINES TO BURN A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY ENGINE USING THAT MUCH OIL EVER! I HAVE OWNED 16 CARS IN MY LIFETIME AND NOT ONE OF THEM EVER USED OIL - NONE! SO, KNOWING THIS I HAD TO KEEP 5 QUARTS OF OIL IN THE GARAGE AT ALL TIMES AND ABOUT EVERY OTHER WEEK I WOULD ADD ANOTHER QUART. SO MY WIFE WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK LATE ONE NIGHT AND THE VAN DIED WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT INTO A REPAIR SHOP (NOT CHRYSLER AS IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY) AND MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT ALONG WITH DROPPING A VALVE SEAT IN ONE OF THE HEADS, THAT THE ENGINE HAD ALSO SPUN 2 BEARINGS AND WERE SHATTERED IN THE OIL PAN. I HAVE ALWAYS MADE SURE TO KEEP OIL IN THIS ENGINE BECAUSE IT WAS USING SO MUCH AND WOULD CHECK IT REGULARLY AS I WAS ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT IT - ESPECIALLY SINCE CHRYSLER SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL - WHICH IT ISN'T! NOW I'M STUCK PAYING FOR A $3,500 ENGINE AND LABOR AT 103,000 MILES AND A 6 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. THIS IS ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE!
