The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country equipped with Mastercraft tires, Tire Line: Stratus AS, Tire Size: 225/65/R16, DOT Number: U942F35. The contact state the sidewall separation caused a blowout of the rear driver’s side tire. The contact stated the tow truck driver informed her that the front driver’s side tire also had sidewall separation. The contact towed the vehicle to the tire shop and had to the front and rear driver side tires replaced. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,940.
MY TIRE LIGHT CAME ON I CHECK THE AIR PRESSURE AND FOUND ONE OF THE VALVE STEMS BROKE OFF. TOOK IT INTO TIRE SHOP AND WAS TOLD CHRYSLER IS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE STEMS. HAD TO REPLACE ONE. NEED NEW TIRES AND WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE OTHER THREE.
VEHICLE HAS 4 DIFFERENT SIZES OF TIRES. DARK OUT WHEN I BOUGHT VEHICLE. ALSO TRANSMISSION SLIPS IN AND OUT OF GEAR. A/C IMMEDIATELY QUIT WORKING. OILY BURNING SMELL AFTER DRIVEN. USES AN ABUNDANT AMOUNT OF GAS $25-30 A DAY. MY FRIEND NOTICED THE CORD COMING OUT OF THE TIRE A COUPLE WEEKS AFTER I GOT THE VAN BECAUSE IT WAS MAKING KLUNKING SOUNDS. I TOOK IT TO GOODYEAR AND THEY WERE APPALLED!
I HAVE A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY MINIVAN, I WILL BE DRIVING AND CAR WILL JUST SHUT OFF, I'VE HAD SPARK PLUGS CHANGED AND TOOK IT TO DEALER COMPLAINING ABOUT IT. THE KINDA ACTED LIKE I WAS CRAZY TIL I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND A TON OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. SOMETIMES IT WILL STALL ON ME 5 OR 6 TIMES A DAY, ITS VERY DANGEROUS POWER STEERING AND EVERYTHING ELSE JUST FAILS. I HAVE TO THROW THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART AS I AM AVOIDING CRASHING INTO ANYTHING. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN IN ANY OTHER CAR AND DO NOT HAVE ANY RECOURSE TO TAKE IT TO A BUNCH OF MECHANICS AND WASTING MONEY WHEN CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THIS RECURRING PROBLEM. I READ THEY ISSUED A RECALL ON 2010 T&C MINIVANS AND HAVE SPOKEN WITH QUITE A FEW PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR CARS DEALING WITH THE SAME ISSUES. *TR
FIRESTONE TIRES P225/65R17, 4 TIRES ON A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY SUBN GY [XXX] [XXX] --I HAVE HAD TO TIRES BLOW OUT IN 2 MONTHS. THE TIRES WERE FAIRLY NEW - THREADS LOOKED GOOD. ONE BLOW OUT WAS AT A LOW SPEED, BUT IT WAS EXPLOSIVE, AND THE OTHER WAS IN THE DIAMOND LANE OF THE LIE AT ABOUT 55 MPH. FIRST TIME THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE SECOND TIME THAT TIRE AND REMAINING TWO OTHER FIRESTONE TIRES WERE REPLACED. IN THE VEHICLE WERE MY HUSBAND, (DRIVER) MYSELF (PASSENGER SEAT) MY SON 13 Y/O AND MY MOTHER 87 Y/O IN BACK SEAT. OTHER THAN A SHOCK AT THE SOUND AND VIBRATION AND THEN THE FEAR OF CROSSING OVER TO THE SHOULDER FROM THE LIE HOV LANE (ACROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC). IT APPEARS WE ARE ALL FINE. AS THIS WAS THE 2ND TIME THIS OCCURRED IN 2 MONTHS TIME, A BLOW OUT OF THIS TIRE SIZE AND MAKE, AND WE WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY NOT TO BE INJURED OR INJURE ANYONE ELSE AS THE RUBBER BLEW OFF THE TIRE I - SIMILAR TO A RETREADED TRUCK TIRE - I AM COMPELLED TO REPORT IT. IN ADDITION, THE VALVE STEM FRACTURED FROM THE TIRE AND CAUSED THE AIR TO REMOVE FROM THE TIRE RAPIDLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO PLACE THE SPARE TIRE ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VALVE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED; HOWEVER, THE TIRE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS)- ROUTINELY SHOWS I HAVE 4 FLAT TIRES. IGNITION SWITCH, TPMS SENSORS, WIRING, STARTER HAVE ALL BEEN REPLACED, SOME NUMEROUS TIMES. IN ADDITION- CAR WILL SOMETIMES NOT START. WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS SINCE JUNE 2015. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR THIS AT LEAST 10 TIMES, NO RESOLUTION.
CHRYSLER DECLINED COVERING MY CAR UNDER K19 RECALL BECAUSE IT WAS MANUFACTURED 2 DAYS BEFORE THE RECALL DATE AND ALSO THEY ALSO SAID MY CAR WAS SOLD ORIGINALLY IN OK. THE CAR RESIDES IN IL SINCE 2013. EVEN MY SERVICE ADVISOR THOUGHT IT WAS COVERED BY THE SAME RECALL. THE RECALL COVER BOTH OF THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS, THE LEFT ONE WAS REPLACED ALMOST A YEAR AGO ON MY EXPENSES IN CHRYSLER DEALER AND NOW AFTER 10 K MILES THE RIGHT WHEEL BEARING STARTED TO CREATE HUMMING AND GRINDING SOUND. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID THAT THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME BECAUSE MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED 2 DAYS BEFORE THE K19 TIME FRAME. I DON'T MIND PAYING FOR REPAIRING MY CAR, BUT THIS MINIVAN TRAVELED TO THE DEALERSHIP 19 TIMES FOR MANY DIFFERENT EXPENSIVE REPAIRS SINCE AUGUST 2013, THIS IS TOO MUCH I APPRECIATE YOUR HELP IN THIS REGARD. *TR
MY AUTO SERVICE TECHNICIAN WAS CHECKING THE TIRE PRESSURE WHEN THE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF AT THE VALVE CAP AREA CAUSING THE LEFT REAR TIRE TO DEFLATE. THE TECHNICIAN SAID THIS WAS DUE TO THE DIS-SIMILAR METALS CORRODING AND WEAKENING THE VALVE STEM. HE SAID THAT IF THE VALVE STEM WHERE TO FAIL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE TIRE PRESSURE DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. *JS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE TOUCHED THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM VALVE STEM, IT DISINTEGRATED DUE TO CORROSION AND CAUSED THE TIRE TO BECOME DEFLATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. I WAS PUTTING AIR IN REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE, WHEN VALVE BROKE IN HALF. STEM WAS CORRODED UPON INSPECTION. I ALSO NOTICED THAT ANOTHER STEM HAD BEEN REPLACED ALREADY (I BOUGHT THE CAR USED) AND THERE WAS STILL TWO ORIGINAL STEMS THAT WERE ALSO CORRODED AND PROBABLY NEEDED REPLACEMENT ASAP. MECHANIC SAID IT WAS PRETTY COMMON WITH TOWN AND COUNTRY VANS. *TR
WENT TO ADD AIR TO A TIRE, THE TPMS VALVE STEM SNAPPED OFF, TIRE LOST ALL AIR VERY QUICKLY. THE TPMS VALVE STEMS ARE ALL CORRODED AND ALL ARE ABOUT TO FAIL. IF ONE FAILS WHILE DRIVING, A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD RESULT. DECIDED TO PURCHASE A DIFFERENT STYLE OF TPMS (SCHRADER WITH A RUBBER STEM, INSTEAD OF THE DANGEROUS ORIGINALS WITH THEIR CORRODING POT METAL STEMS) FOR ALL 4 WHEELS AT CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. FROM READING FORUMS AT E.G. ALLPAR, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. CHRYSLER SURELY KNOWS ABOUT THESE DANGEROUS TPMS'S AND SHOULD BE PROACTIVE AND AT LEAST WARN USERS TO CHECK FOR CORROSION, AND PREFERABLY FIX THEIR PROBLEM. *TR

THE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF AFTER WE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE TIRES TESTS. TPMS WAS SET OFF BY THE FIRST STEM REPLACEMENT WE HAD TWO MONTHS EARLIER. WE NOW HAVE TWO REPLACEMENT VALVES ON OUR TOWN & COUNTRY. I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THE REPLACEMENT ARE FROM THE SAME FAULTY SUPPLIER IN CHINA. BUT THE STEM ARE MADE OF THE SAME METAL RATHER THAN BRASS. PLEASE GET A RECALL OF THESE ITEMS. THE MANUFACTURER WILL DO NOTHING UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT AND IT DOES ME NO GOOD TO REPLACE THEM IF THEY CONTINUE TO USE THE SAME FAULTY PARTS. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE. TIRE WAS LOW - FRONT RIGHT - PULLED IN TO PUT AIR IN AND WHEN UNSCREWING THE VALVE CAP, THE STEM BROKE OFF INTO MY HAND. THE LEFT REAR WHEEL DID THE SAME THING 3 MONTHS AGO. LUCKILY THE STEM DID NOT FALL APART WHILE DRIVING AS THE TIRE WENT IMMEDIATELY FLAT. EACH TIME THE COST WAS OVER 85 PLUS THE CALL TO AAA TO ASSIST. I SAW THAT OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WITH ONLY 60000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SHOULD NOT BE FAILING. WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
