I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE OVER 15 MONTHS PRIOR WITH 23000 MILES. IN LESS THAN A YEAR, THE VEHICLE WOULD JUST SHUT OFF UPON DECELERATION AND/OR COMING TO A STOP - USUALLY AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY. SINCE THEN IT JUST SHUTS OFF RANDOMLY - USUALLY WHEN STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT. I TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES. INSTEAD, THEY CHARGED ME $300+ FOR A FLUSH! WHEN I TOOK IT BACK, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION AND TIGHTENED THE WIRES. THE PROBLEM REMAINED. A MONTH LATER, I TOOK THE VAN TO ANOTHER AUTO REPAIR SHOP WHO COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM UNTIL HE WENT OUT ON THE ROAD WITH ME. AGAIN, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS LIKELY THE TRANSMISSION. APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS LATER AS THE PROBLEM CONTINUED, THE HOSE BLEW AND I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE HOSE AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION. NOW THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPAIRED/REBUILT, THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS UTTERLY INSANE AND I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO KEEP PUTTING BAND AIDS ON A PROBLEM THAT THE DEALER NOR OTHER REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOPS CAN IDENTIFY. I HAVE 3 YOUNG CHILDREN (AGES 6, 7, & 8) AND NO OTHER VEHICLE. I AM CONSTANTLY IN FEAR OF BEING REAR-ENDED BECAUSE THE VAN JUST SHUTS OFF. WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER ABOUT A POTENTIAL RECALL, SHE WAS UNHELPFUL. INSTEAD, SHE DIRECTED ME TO THIS WEBSITE TO FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT. LET ME ADD THAT SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, THERE HAVE BEEN 3 RECALLS - A/C WIRE (THAT I DID EXPERIENCE), BRAKES (I HAD REPLACED AND WILL NEED TO BE REIMBURSED), AND THE FRONT-WHEEL ALIGNMENT (THAT I NOW HAVE TO GET SERVICED). THIS IS UTTERLY RIDICULOUS AND I AM APPALLED THAT I HAVE TO ENDURE THIS ISSUE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE IMMEDIATELY! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED THREE TIMES WITHIN ONE YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THE FRONT ROTORS WERE WARPED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WERE NUMEROUS TIMES THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE SIMILAR FAILURE. A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND WHEEL BALANCING WERE PERFORMED AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THE MANUFACTURER DESIGNED THE VEHICLE WITH EXTREMELY SMALL BRAKES AND THE IMPROPER SIZE RESULTED IN PREMATURE BRAKE AND ROTOR WEAR, AND WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT EVERY 6,000 MILES. HE ALSO MENTIONED FAULTY ROTORS WERE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL YEAR VEHICLE. MOST RECENTLY, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS STICKING AND OVERHEATING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECTS AND THEY ACCEPTED THE RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKES AT THEIR EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000.
I AM WRITING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ON CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVANS. I WAS TOLD TODAY, 3/4/11 THAT I NEED ALL NEW BRAKES (ROTORS AND PADS ON MY 2009 TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVAN.) THE VEHICLE HAS 14,500 MILES ON IT. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND ON EDMUNDS.COM THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS VEHICLE AND ITS BRAKE SYSTEM. I AM GOING TO REPLACE THE PADS AND ROTORS BECAUSE I HAVE 5 KIDS AND THEIR SAFETY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE COST . PLEASE TAKE THIS COMPLAINT SERIOUSLY. THANKYOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A SUNSHINE KIDS RADIAN XTSL CHILD RESTRAINT, MANUFACTURED OCTOBER 1, 2009. THE MODEL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CHILD RESTRAIN WAS SECURED IN A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LATCH STRAPS HAD BECOME LOOSE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE YET THE CHILD SEAT WAS NEITHER REPAIRED NOR REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHILD SEAT WAS NO LONGER BEING USED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WATER WAS LEAKING THROUGH THE SUN ROOF. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ROOF WAS COMPLETELY WET AND FLUID WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRAINS NEEDED TO BE UN-CLOGGED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES AFTER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,356 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000. *TR
WE BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN 2009 FROM THE GARY MILLER CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN ERIE, PA. IN EARLY 2011 AND CONTINUING TO PRESENT, THE CAR ENGINE WILL STALL OUT UPON APPLYING THE BRAKES TO DECELERATE. THE STALL ALWAYS HAPPENS AT A SLOW SPEED RIGHT BEFORE STOPPING, JUST WHEN IT STOPS, OR A FEW SECONDS AFTER THE CAR COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT FEELS LIKE THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WANT TO FORCE THE CAR TO KEEP MOVING INSTEAD OF BRAKING TO A COMPLETE STOP. ON SOME OCCASIONS, THE CAR TRIES TO LURCH FORWARD AND REQUIRES HOLDING THE BRAKE DOWN HARD TO PREVENT IT. THE OTHER SITUATION IS WHEN STARTING AT A SLOW SPEED, THE ENGINE WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY SHIFT GEARS AND THE ENGINE REVS UP DANGEROUSLY HIGH. WE PULL OFF THE ROAD, SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE, RESTART, AND THEN IT SEEMS TO BE OKAY. WE HAVE REPORTED THIS TO THE GARY MILLER CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT SINCE IT STARTED IN 2011. THEY HAVE BEEN VERY CONCERNED AND ATTEMPT TO DISCOVER THE CAUSE BY TEST DRIVE AND DIAGNOSIS, BUT HAVE NO EXPLANATION. OTHER THAN THIS, THE SERVICE THERE HAS BEEN VERY RELIABLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY ON 1/1/2011 THE TRUCK JUST SHUT OFF, ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON AS IF JUST STARTING THE TRUCK AND THE TRUCK RESTARTED. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON 1/03 AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT NO TROUBLE FOUND AND RETURNED THE TRUCK (THEY SAID THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES). ON 1/20/11 THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED THIS TIME TO MY WIFE WHILE MERGING ONTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY AT 55 MILES AN HOUR, THE TRUCK (BECAUSE LOSS OF POWER STEERING) PULLED TO THE LEFT, SHE HAD MY 3 AND 6 YR OLD IN THE TRUCK, I BROUGHT THE TRUCK THAT EVENING BACK AND CONTACTED CHRYSLER CORPORATE. THEY SAW A FAULT WITH A LOOSE BATTERY TERMINAL PO884 ON RO, AND REPLACED THE WIN. MY WIFE IS PETRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK SO I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT SINCE. TODAY 2/09/11 IT HAPPENED TO ME AT ~40 MPH AT ~8:15 AM. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER AGAIN. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND I CANNOT FEEL SAFE LETTING MY WIFE DRIVE THIS TRUCK ANYMORE NOR MYSELF. *TR

THE CONTACT HE ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE REAR SLIDING DOORS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, BUT THE DOORS BEGAN TO CLOSE UNEXPECTEDLY AFTER OPENING HALFWAY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SENSORS ON THE SLIDING DOORS WERE TOO SENSITIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING ITS SOFTWARE UPDATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
2009 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. MANAGER FROM THE ALLIANCE FOR CONSUMER PROTECTION SENT CORRESPONDENCE ON BEHALF OF CONSUMER IN REGARDS TO BLOWN TIRE AND VALVE STEM *TGW WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A TIRE BLOW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE SHOP, WHERE THE HE WAS INFORMED THE VALVE STEM HAD BROKE OFF AND A RUBBER STEM HAD TO BE INSTALLED. THE SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AND AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. IN OCTOBER 2011, WHILE INSTALLING BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER NOTICED ANOTHER VALVE STEM HAD BROKEN OFF AT THE TIP, WHICH HE ALSO REPLACED. IN FEB 2012, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE VALVE STEM AGAIN. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VALVE STEMS, IT WAS APPARENT, THE VALVE STEMS WERE DETERIORATING FROM CORROSION FROM BAD METAL AND ROAD ELEMENTS USED TO TREAT ROADS IN BAD WEATHER, SUCH AS SALT. THE CONSUMER WAS CONVINCED THE VALVE STEMS WERE MADE FROM ALUMINUM AND THE ROAD ELEMENTS WERE CAUSING THE VALVES TO FAIL, ESPECIALLY IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE COUNTRY. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT SMELLED AN ELECTRICAL BURNING ODOR INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT SMALL FLAMES WERE COMING FROM THE REAR AREA OF THE PASSENGER AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT REMOVED THE DOOR PANEL AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V046000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: FUSES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: FUSES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS). THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, AND PLANNED TO NOTIFY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
WE'VE BEEN HAVING CONTINUOUS PROBLEM WITH OUR TIRES, CONSTANTLY LOSING PRESSURE. WE THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE ISSUE, HOWEVER EVERY TIME I HAD THE TIRES CHECK THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AGAIN, WE WERE LOSING PRESSURE IN A TIRE, I WENT TO FILL THE TIRE AND THE ALUMINUM VALVE STEM BROKE IN TWO. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE NOT MOVING WHEN THE STEM CAME APART. WHEN I WENT TO A QUICK OIL CHANGE I WAS INFORMED THAT THEIR COMPANY POLICY IS NOT TO TOUCH THE ALUMINUM VALVE STEMS BECAUSE SO MANY HAD COME APART IN THEIR EMPLOYEES HANDS.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG A SMOOTH ROAD, NOT ACCELERATING OR STOPPING WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD ONE OF THE TIMES, THE OTHER TWO I COULD RESTART THE ENGINE WITHOUT HAVING TO STOP. THIS MAKES DRIVING THIS CAR A HAZARD TO DRIVE. ALL I GET FROM THE DEALER IS I CAN TRADE IT IN IF IT BOTHERS ME.
HORN ASSEMBLY CAME COMPLETELY LOOSE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. NO ACCIDENT. I ASSUME THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG IS CONTAINED WITHIN THIS COMPONENT. DEALERSHIP SAID CAUSE WAS FAULTY PART OR MONDAY ASSEMBLED VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPS BELOW 30 DEGREES THE WINDSHIELD WASHER WOULD NOT OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FLUID WAS FROZEN AND THAT HE SHOULD WAIT UNTIL THE VEHICLE WARMS UP BEFORE USAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSED TO OPERATE LIKE THAT ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
1. WIFE WAS DRIVING 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. SHE WAS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC WHEN THE VAN JUST "CUT OFF". 2. THE VAN COMPLETELY TURNS OFF. NO GAUGES, NO WARNING, JUST CUTS OFF. THE FAILURE IS COMPLETELY RANDOM. SHE WAS ALMOST BROAD-SIDED BY ON-COMING TRAFFIC WITH HER AND OUR THREE KIDS IN THE VAN THIS TIME. 3. VAN HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST TWICE AND THEY COULD FIND NO FAULT CODES OR REASON FOR THE VAN CUTTING OFF. HAD US PAY TO HAVE THE INJECTORS CLEANED AND SAID "THAT SHOULD FIX IT" (THE VAN HAD LESS THAN 27,500 MILES ON IT AT THIS POINT). THE VAN DID IT AGAIN THE VERY NEXT DAY. DEALER SAID "COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM". *TR
AFTER SUSTAINED HIGHWAY SPEEDS, OUR VAN STALLED UPON EXITING THE HIGHWAY AND COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT THE FIRST TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PEDAL WOULD SHAKE VERY HARD IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO STALLING. THE TACHOMETER WOULD ALSO DIP BELOW 750 RPM IMMEDIATELY BEFORE ENGINE STALLING. THIS SAME THING HAPPENED AT LEAST 10 TIMES BEFORE WE FINALLY TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VAN AND SAID THAT THEY SIMPLY UPDATED THE ENGINE COMPUTER SOFTWARE. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AND BECAME QUITE PREDICTABLE. THERE IS NO PROBLEM WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AROUND TOWN SINCE I DON'T GET ONTO A HIGHWAY TO GO TO WORK OR SHOP. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME NOW AFTER WE'VE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY FOR A WHILE AND EXIT. SOMETIMES IT WILL STALL BEFORE WE CAN EVEN COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHICH CONCERNS ME GREATLY. OUR VEHICLE RECENTLY RAN OUT OF IT'S REGULAR 3 YEAR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY SO WE TOOK IT TO OUR REGULAR MECHANIC BECAUSE WE WANTED ANOTHER OPINION AND TO FINALLY GET IT FIXED EVEN IF IT HAD TO BE AT OUR OWN EXPENSE. OUR MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER. APPARENTLY THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS INTENDED TO HELP THE TRANSMISSION GET BETTER GAS MILEAGE WHEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. UPON EXITING THE HIGHWAY, THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS NOT PROPERLY DISENGAGING WHICH IS RESULTING IN OUR ENGINE STALLING ISSUE. INSTEAD OF CHARGING US TO FIX THE PROBLEM HE TOLD US TO HAVE OUR DEALER FIX IT SINCE IT SHOULD STILL BE COVERED BY THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AS WE HAVE JUST OVER 40,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. AFTER 3 DAYS WITH THE DEALER, THEY HAVE YET TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AND CLAIM THAT THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE ARE EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO EITHER FIX THE PROBLEM OR REPLACE THE VEHICLE. *TT
20000 MILES FRONT PASSENGER SEAT STOPPED OPERATING (NO POWER) UNDER 50000MI BOTH FRONT WINDOW REGULATORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THE THING HAS LEAKED OIL SINCE DAY ONE FRONT WHEEL BEARING WENT AT 76000 MI EATS THROUGH BREAKS NEED YEARLY REPLACEMENT TIRES DO NOT LAST ON THIS VEHICLE AS WELL AND ARE NOT EASILY FOUND ANYWHERE THEY ARE SPECIAL ORDER ONLY CHRYSLER TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD LOOK AT THE VEHICLE FOR 700$ FOR DEFECTS AND REIMBURSE FOR REPAIRS IF DEFECTS WERE FOUND (YEAH RIGHT) THE "Y" PIPE (PLASTIC) HEATER HOSE HAS BLOWN AT LEAST FIVE TIMES THE RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BEFORE 90000 MILES WITH THE THERMOSTAT THE EGR VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT 60000 MILES AND STILL GETS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOR BAD EGR REAR DVD SCREEN HAS NEVER WORKED DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR GOT FILLED WITH WATER FROM POOR ASSEMBLY AND DRAIN THAT WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY AC REFRIGERANT HOSE LEAKING AT 98000 MILES OVERALL HORRIBLE VEHICLE WILL NEVER BUY CHRYSLER AGAIN AND AS FAR AS RECALLS GO EACH RECALL WE GET THE PARTS ARE NEVER AVAILABLE EVEN AFTER HOURS SPENT ON THE PHONE WITH CHRYSLER BAD BAD VEHICLE AND COMPANY !!!!
WHILE TRAVELING AT 60MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY MY 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE CODE AT THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE PCM MODULE AUTOMATICALLY SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER INSTALLED A NEW PCM. THE SECOND DEALER NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE WIRES TO THE PCM RUBBED THROUGH ON A FACTORY INSTALLED UPPER RADIATOR HOSE CLAMP, THEREBY SENDING A MESSAGE IN ERROR TO AUTOMATICALLY SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE. WE WOULD LIKE CHRYSLER TO CHECK ALL VEHICLES FOR THIS DEFECT WHEN THEY COME IN FOR SERVICE SO THIS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION DOES NOT HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. *TR
THIS CAR HAS HAD ITS BRAKES REPLACED THREE TIMES AND DOES NOT HAVE 50,000 MILES ON IT. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. *JS
I AM ABOUT TO PUT MY FIFTH SET OF FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ON MY 2009 TOWN & COUNTRY. I HAVE TRIED MOPAR, AUTOZONE, AND NAPA ROTORS. CHRYSLER EMPLOYEES HAVE TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM, THAT AFFECTS THE TOWN AND COUNTRY AND THE JOURNEY, WHICH SHARE BRAKE COMPONENTS. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE MOPAR ROTORS WERE "JUNK". I CALLED THE CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE LINE AND THE PERSON WHO TOOK MY REPORT, TOLD ME THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS JUST COMPLETED A COMPLETE RE-DESIGN ON THE COMPONENTS. THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 30 OR 36 THOUSAND MILES, WHICH DOES NOT HELP ME. I RECEIVED A CALL BACK FROM A CASE MANAGER, WHOSE JOB WAS CLEARLY TO GET ME OFF THE PHONE. SHE DID NOT WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING, WAS NOT INTERESTED IN THE DATES AND MILES OF ROTOR CHANGES, AND BASICALLY SAID: ONCE YOU TRIED NON-CHRYSLER PARTS, WE ARE NO LONGER WILLING TO HELP YOU. SHE ALSO SAID THAT SHE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT RE-DESIGN OR ANY "KNOWN BRAKE PROBLEMS". MY TRYING DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS' PARTS ACTUALLY PROVES THAT THE ISSUE IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE ROTORS, BUT LIKELY THE DESIGN OF THE BRAKES. SOMETHING IS CAUSING THEM TO WEAR IMPROPERLY. THE ROTORS "WARP". I INSTALLED A SET AT ONE YEAR (23,916 MI), TWO YEARS (40,997), SIX WEEKS LATER AT (43,745) AND NOW NEED MY FIFTH SET AT 46,400 AFTER ANOTHER SIX WEEKS. ONE NON-CHRYSLER MECHANIC SAID THAT HE THINKS IT IS POSSIBLE THE BRAKES ARE UNDERSIZED FOR THE MINIVAN. MY DEALER IS ATTEMPTING TO HELP, TRYING TO FIND A SOLUTION. OFFICIALLY, CHRYSLER SAYS THAT CHANGING ROTORS EVERY 10 TO 15,000 MILES IS "ACCEPTABLE". IT IS NOT. I HAD TWO PREVIOUS CHRYSLER MINIVANS AND CHANGED BRAKES BETWEEN 80 AND 100,000 MILES. CHRYSLER NEED TO RECALL THESE BRAKES - WHEN I DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE FAMILY, BRAKE DISTANCES ARE VERY LONG AND THE VIBRATION OF THE STEERING WHEEL UPON BRAKING IS EXTREME. JUST AFTER A YR OF DRIVING AND 20K MILES MY BRAKES WERE NOT FEELING RIGHT. I TOOK MY VAN TO THE DEALER AND HAD THE PADS REPLACED. AT 35 THOUSAND I TOOK THE VAN BACK IN BECAUSE I HAD THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN. THE DEALER WANTED TO REPLACE ALL THE PADS AND TURN ROTORS. I WAS NOT HAPPY. THE PROBLEM I WAS TOLD GOT FIXED IN 2008. NOT TO MENTION THE EXPENSE. I HAD THE PADS DONE AND ONLY FRONT ROTORS DONE. IN MY EXPERIENCE OF ALL 8 VEHICLES I'VE OWNED. NEVER HAD I NEED TO REPLACE THE REAR ROTORS. THE LIFT GATE WAS SLOW TO CLOSE AND THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ASSIST BY MANUALLY CLOSING THE LIFT GATE. WHILE PULLING THE LIFT GATE DOWNWARD, IT BEGAN TO INVOLUNTARILY REOPEN UNTIL HEAVY FORCE WAS USED. SINCE THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE ABNORMAL NOISES COMING FROM THE LIFT GATE WHEN OPENING OR CLOSING. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE LIFT GATE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000. WAS INFORMED THAT "BRAKES" WERE ONLY WARRANTED FOR 12K MILES SO REPLACEMENT COST WOULD BE ON ME. CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE LINE TO COMPLAIN THAT THE ROTORS WORE OUT BEFORE THE PADS WORE OUT, NEITHER OF WHICH SHOULD HAVE FAILED AT 19K MILES BASED ON MY DRIVING CHARACTERISTICS--MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES, GENTLE BREAKING, ETC. CHRYSLER AGREED TO COVER THE REPLACEMENT COST. SHORTLY THEREAFTER CHRYSLER ISSUED AN "EXTENDED WARRANTY" ON THE T&C BRAKING SYSTEM BUT OWNER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A DEDUCTIBLE DEPENDING ON MILEAGE. VEHICLE NOW (9/2/11) HAS 35K MILES AND FEELING PULSING WHEN DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL BUT NOT EXCESSIVE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR UNRELATED ISSUE AND MENTIONED BRAKE CONCERN. THEY TELL ME THAT FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEED REPLACED AND IT WILL ONLY COST ME $100 DEDUCTIBLE SINCE CHRYSLER HAS EXTENDED WARRANTY. I TELL THEM TO DO THE WORK SINCE I'M CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY OF MYSELF, MY FAMILY, AND OTHER MOTORISTS. I CALL CHRYSLER AND THEY THINK IT IS A GREAT DEAL THAT IT WILL ONLY COST ME $100. I UNDERSTAND THAT BRAKE PADS ARE DESIGNED TO WEAR BUT WHEN DID ROTORS BECOME A WEAR ITEM, ESPECIALLY FASTER THAN THE PADS? ALL 4 PADS HAD 8/32" LIFE REMAINING--I HAVE PICTURES. CHRYSLER HAD NO GOOD ANSWER OTHER THAN TO QUOTE ME THE LANGUAGE FROM THE WARRANTY BOOKLET THAT THEY ARE ONLY COVERED FOR 12K MILES BUT THAT CHRYSLER RECOGNIZES AN ISSUE WHICH IS WHY THEY ISSUED THE "EXTENDED" WARRANTY. THEY CAN WARRANT THE POWER TRAIN FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE BUT THEY CAN'T WARRANT THE BRAKE ROTOR FOR MORE THAN 12 MONTHS? THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE DESIGN NEGLIGENCE OF A CRITICAL SAFETY ITEM AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED MORE THAN JUST DISCOUNTING THE REPLACEMENT EVERY 16K MILES. LS

I OWN A 2009 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY LX WHICH I PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2008. ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO I NOTICED A HIGH PITCHED NOISE PERIODICAL COMING FROM THE VAN. WHEN I LIGHTLY APPLIED THE BRAKES THE NOISE WENT AWAY. ABOUT A MONTH AGO THE NOISE BEGAN OCCURRING MORE REGULARLY AND FOR MORE PROLONGED PERIODS OF TIME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I BOUGHT IT A COUPLE OF TIMES AND DESCRIBED MY PROBLEM TO THE SERVICE MANGER. HE TOLD ME TO DROP BY AT THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I NOTICED THE SOUND OCCURRING. ON 3 OCCASIONS I TRIED TO DO THAT BUT WHEN I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NOISE WAS NO LONGER OCCURRING. ON FRIDAY APRIL 16TH, I HEARD THE NOISE AND DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP. I NOTICED THE SERVICE MANAGER DRIVE OFF IN ANOTHER VAN, SO I FOLLOWED HIM TO SEE IF I COULD CATCH HIM WHILE THE NOISE WAS OCCURRING. WHEN I PULLED NEXT TO HIM AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE NOISE WAS NO LONGER HAPPENING. I SPOKE TO HIM THEN LEFT FOR HOME. WHEN I ARRIVED AT HOME I SMELLED SOMETHING AND TOUCHED THE REAR WHEEL AND FOUND IT EXTREMELY HOT. I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY PULLED THE VAN IN FOR INSPECTION. THEY FOUND THE "REAR BRAKE PADS WORN AND DRAGGING ON ROTORS. REPLACED REAR BRAKES & RESURFACED ROTORS." THAT COST ME $180.88. THE CAR ONLY HAD 34,149 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. ALTHOUGH NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, IT SEEMS UNREASONABLE FOR BRAKES AND ROTORS TO BE SO WORN WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. NEITHER MY WIFE NOR ARE SPEEDY DRIVERS AND DO NOT DRIVE AGGRESSIVELY, (JACK-RABBIT STARTS, TAILGATE, ETC.) THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED NEW FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,912 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,000.

THE POWER DOORS, BOTH SIDES AND THE REAR HATCH, OPEN AT RANDOM, EITHER WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED AND TURNED OFF OR WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE FOUND MY VEHICLE ON THE STREET WITH A DOOR OPEN, ONCE DURING A SNOW STORM AND THE INSIDE WAS INUNDATED WITH SNOW. I'M AFRAID I MIGHT FIND A HOMELESS PERSON SLEEPING THERE OR A NEST OF SKUNKS PERHAPS, OR MAYBE STRIPPED CLEAN BY A THIEF. THE KEY FOB HAS BEEN ELIMINATED AS A SUSPECT OF INADVERTENTLY OPERATING THE DOORS. ONCE I CLOSED A SIDE DOOR WITH THE BUTTON ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR AND AFTER A FEW MOMENTS, IT REOPENED. ON THREE INCIDENCES DOORS OPENED WHILE DRIVING. THIS I ASSUME TO BE A REAL SAFETY HAZARD. IMAGINE IF THE REAR WAS PACKED WITH LUGGAGE OR GROCERIES AND THE HATCHED OPEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE ROTORS IN TO BE MACHINED DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR THE REPAIRS HOWEVER THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH METAL ON THE ROTORS TO BE MACHINED AND THE CONTACT WAS GIVEN A NEW SET OF ROTORS. APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED AND ONCE AGAIN THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH METAL TO MACHINE THE ROTORS. THE DEALER PROVIDED A NEW PAIR OF ROTORS AT NO COST HOWEVER, 12,000 MILES LATER THE PROBLEM RECURRED AND THE CONTACT WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000.

STOPPED WORKING ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP---NO GAUGES, NO POWER WINDOWS OR DOORS, NO TURN SIGNALS, NO BRAKE LIGHTS, NO A/C, NO RADIO---THE ONLY THING WORKING WERE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WHICH CAME ON BY THEMSELVES AND I COULD NOT SHUT THEM OFF---ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIT UP---MADE IT HOME AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND SET UP APPT. I READ WHERE AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN STARTED WITH THE SMOKE AND FIRE PROBLEM WITH THREE JEEP ROOF LINERS AND CHECKING THE LATEST NUMBER OF PREMATURE BRAKE RELATED FAILURE ON 09 CHRYSLER NOW NUMBERS FORTY. IT SEEMS THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME SORT OF REVIEW OF THE INADEQUATE BRAKING SYSTEM INSTALLED ON THESE VEHICLES. I WOULD HOPE THAT THE REVIEW SYSTEM CONSIDERS BRAKES A SOMEWHAT IMPORTANT ISSUE. WE'VE HAD OUR 2009 TOWN & COUNTRY FOR ABOUT 3YRS. THE BRAKE PROBLEMS STARTED AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF USE. THEY STARTED OFF WOBBLING WHEN STOPPING. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE, THEY SAID I JUST NEED MY ROTORS TURNED. I ASKED THEM TO REPLACE THEM BECAUSE WE HADN'T HAD THE VEHICLE LONG ENOUGH TO NEED OUR ROTORS TURNED. BUT THEY REFUSED. WHILE IT DID DRIVE BETTER, THE VEHICLE NEVER DROVE SMOOTH AGAIN. I TOLD THEM IT'S STILL NOT SMOOTH BUT NOTHING WAS DONE. MY HUSBAND (MECHANIC) HAS CHANGED OUR BRAKES 4 TIMES IN 3 YRS. HE CHANGED THE BRAKES A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, TWO WEEKS LATER WE HAD SQUEALING AND RUBBING WHEN STOPPING AGAIN. HE DECIDED TO PURCHASE BRAKE PADS FROM THE DEALERSHIP (VERY EXPENSIVE) BUT WHEN HE WENT TO PUT THEM ON HE DISCOVERED THE BRAKE PADS WEREN'T THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE BALL BEARINGS FOR WHICH CHRYSLER HAS EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY BUT WON'T EXTENDED A LOANER CAR TO IT'S "VALUED" CUSTOMERS FOR THEIR INCONVENIENCE. NOW WE HAVE TO EITHER BE WITHOUT A VEHICLE OR PAY MONEY FOR A RENTAL BECAUSE CHRYSLER SOLD US A FAULTY VEHICLE. OH AND THE LEATHER ON MY DRIVER SEAT HAS CRACKED ALSO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED BUT DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE TO THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
AT ABOUT 3000 MILES THE FRONT ROTORS WARPED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. UP TO ABOUT 25,000 MILES CHRYSLER CONTINUED TO REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE WARPED FRONT AND REAR ROTORS ABOUT EVERY 3-6,000 MILES. AFTER THAT THEY STOPPED PAYING FOR THE REPLACEMENTS AND I HAVE, DESPITE THE SOMEWHAT DECREASED STOPPING POWER AND VIBRATION CONTINUED TO RIDE IN MOSTLY LOW SPEED CITY CONDITIONS ON THE EXISTING ROTORS. OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS WON'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY DON'T FEEL SAFE DOING SO. THE VIBRATION COMES AND GOES. IT GETS WORSE WITH PROLONGED DRIVING, HIGHER SPEEDS, AND HEAVY BRAKING. IT IS ALWAYS PRESENT AT HIGHER SPEEDS (>50MPH). *TR
