The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle off the highway and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with a timing chain failure and the contact was informed by the dealer that the part was under warranty. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the failure was part of a Customer Satisfaction Program: P01 however, the vehicle was not under recall. The contact was informed that due to the timing chain failure, the engine was also damaged and would not be covered under the Customer Satisfaction Program. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and agreed to repair the vehicle under Consequential Damages. The contact then called the dealer where he was informed that the repair was denied. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the dealer possession. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the timing chain had fractured and caused damage to the engine. The dealer related the failure to Service Campaign: P01 (Engine Timing Chain and Chain Guide) for which the VIN was included. The dealer informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced; however, the manufacturer declined the engine replacement due to him not being the original owner of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and declined the engine replacement. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN CAR LOST POWER AND THEN STOPPED SHUT OFF STEERING WAS THEN HARD AND DIFFICULT TO TURN ON A MAJOR INTERSECTION AND THEN I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE VEHICLE THE STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULTLY WILL CRANK BUT WILL NOT START BECAUSE THE ALTERNATOR GAVE UP DIED I THEN CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY WOULD FIX IT I JUST HAD TO TAKE IT OVER THERE I HAD TO TOW IT OVER THERE THEN AS I GOT IT THERE THEY SAID THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T TURN ON I TOLD HIM IT WAS BECAUSE THE ALTERNATOR WAS NO GOOD AND IT SHUT OFF AND THE STORY BEHIND IT THEY DIDN'T SAY THAT THEY WOULD CHARGE ME AND THEY'VE HAD IT SINCE THURSDAY TODAY IS NOW SUNDAY THEY SAID THEY CANNOT WORK ON IT UNTIL THEY KNOW FOR SURE THAT IS THE ALTERNATOR I KNOW IT IS I HAD IT CHECKED BEFORE THE ALTERNATOR HAD WENT OUT

MY CHALLENGER IS MAKING A WIERD TICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. SEE RECALL BELOW CHRYSLER ANNOUNCED THIS MORNING THAT IT WILL BE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON 3.6-LITER PENTASTAR V-6 ENGINES IN CERTAIN 2011-2013 VEHICLES DUE TO CRACKED CYLINDER HEADS ON EARLY VERSIONS OF THE ENGINE ACCORDING TO AUTOMOTIVE NEWS, ROUGHLY 7500 ENGINES BUILT AS THE PENTASTAR V-6 WAS FIRST COMING OUT IN 2012, WERE FOUND TO BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO LEFT-CYLINDER HEAD CRACKS, POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN ENGINE FAILURE. CHRYSLER FIRST DISCOVERED THE ISSUE WHEN CUSTOMERS BEGAN COMPLAINING THAT THEIR VEHICLES WERE MAKING TICKING NOISES, STALLING, OR THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS INEXPLICABLY DISPLAYING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE 3.6-LITER PENTASTAR V-6 COMES WITH A 5-YEAR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY, WHICH CHRYSLER WILL BE EXTENDING TO 10-YEARS/150,000 MILES ON THE LEFT-CYLINDER HEAD. THE CRACKED LEFT-CYLINDER HEAD ISSUE POTENTIALLY AFFECTS ABOUT 0.5-PERCENT OF VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 3.6-LITER V-6. CHRYSLER DETERMINED THAT SUBPAR FUEL ALONG WITH A NUMBER OF DRIVING CONDITIONS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ISSUE. A DESIGN MODIFICATION IN LATE 2012 HAS REPORTEDLY FIXED THE ISSUE IN NEWER VEHICLES. THE 3.6-LITER V-6, THE FIRST OF THE PENTASTAR FAMILY THAT NOW INCLUDES A 3.2-LITER VERSION, COMES STANDARD IN NUMEROUS CHRYSLER VEHICLES. THE 3.6-LITER PENTASTAR IS STANDARD ON THE: CHRYSLER 300, DODGE CHALLENGER, DODGE CHARGER, JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, JEEP WRANGLER, RAM 1500, AND RAM PROMASTER. IT'S OPTIONAL ON BOTH THE PREVIOUS-GENERATION AND CURRENT CHRYSLER 200, AND DODGE AVENGER.
COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. 5.7 HEMI ENGINE SNAPPED #7 PUSH ROD WHILE DRIVING ON I-10 AT NORMAL SPEEDS. ALL MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED REGULARLY WITH NO INDICATION OF THIS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE ENGINE WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF 8500 DOLLARS.
I WAS AT THE STORE AND TRIED TO START MY CAR. MY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND CAR WOULD NOT START. THOUGHT IT WAS A DEAD BATTERY, BUT AS IT TURNED OUT IT WAS A BAD ALTERNATOR. DODGE HAS HAD ALTERNATOR RECALLS ON OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES FROM THE SAME YEAR AND BROWSING THE INTERNET I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT BAD ALTERNATORS WITH OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE AS MINE. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS ALTERNATOR. THIS HAPPENED FEB.11,2017
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE CHALLENGER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW, IT ROLLED DOWN SLOWER THAN NORMAL. SEVERAL MOMENTS LATER, THE LIGHTING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A 5.7L ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,400.
MY FIANCE AND I WERE LEAVING A STORE WHEN ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE CAR STARTED FLASHING AND THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A WEIRD HUMMING SOUND AND THEN THE CAR DIED AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN! I HAD TO PAY A TOW TRUCK TO COME OUT AND PICK IT UP AND TAKE IT IN TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP. WAS WITHOUT MY CAR FOR ALMOST A MONTH BECAUSE I HAD TO SLOWLY PAY THE DEALERSHIP $600 THAT I DID NOT HAVE. THEN THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T EVEN MENTION THE BATTERY WAS PROBABLY GONNA DIE SO A WEEK LATER AFTER I FINALLY GOT MY CAR BACK, I GO OUT AND IT WON'T START AGAIN! SO THEN I HAD TO SPEND ALMOST ANOTHER $200 ON A BRAND NEW BATTERY. I AM JUST COMPLETELY OFFENDED THAT THIS A HUGE AND MASSIVELY COMMON PROBLEM AND DODGE HASN'T EVEN TRIED TO FIX IT! I LOVE MY CHALLENGER BUT I WAS SO EXASPERATED WITH ALL THE BS THAT I WAS READY TO TAKE IT BACK TO WHERE I BOUGHT IT A YEAR AGO AND GIVE IT BACK. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE.
