MY ALTERNATOR SHORT CIRCUITED AND SMOLDERED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY STREET WITH MY 3 YR OLD IN THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY SON AND I OUT OF THE CAR LUCKILY. AFTER GETTING IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC IT WAS REPLACED FOR OVER $1100! HOWEVER, MY ON-BOARD COMPUTER MAY HAVE POTENTIALLY FRIED AS WELL SO IT IS CURRENTLY AT A CHRYSLER/DODGE DEALER. AFTER RESEARCHING I FOUND THE ALTERNATOR WAS RECALLED. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER'S SERVICE AND THEY STATED THAT I SHOULD RECEIVE SOMETHING IN THE MAIL ABOUT THE RECALL "ANY DAY" SINCE I NEVER DID. I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY UPFRONT FOR THE REPAIRS AS WELL AND WOULD BE REIMBURSED "IN ABOUT A MONTH OR SO." THIS RECALL WAS ON 6/9/17. IT IS DECEMBER! THERE IS STILL NO REMEDY FOR THIS AS STATED BY MY DEALER AS THEY SAID "PARTS FOR THIS RECALL WON'T BE AVAILABLE UNTIL AFTER THE 1ST OF THE YEAR." THIS IS NEGLECT AND LAZINESS ON THE PART OF EITHER THE DEAL OR CHRYSLER AS A WHOLE! IF MY SON AND I WERE ON THE HIGHWAY WE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT OR EVEN WORSE! HOW, AFTER 6 MONTHS, IS THERE NOT PARTS AVAILABLE FOR THIS MAJOR RECALL?!?!?!?!
CAR WON'T START SOMETIMES. STALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V879000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, INTERIOR LIGHTING) AND 17V572000 (SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE DEALER (SWOPE CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM, 1012 N DIXIE AVE, ELIZABETHTOWN, KY 42701) WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY COMPLETED THE REPAIR FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V572000 (SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); HOWEVER, THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V879000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, INTERIOR LIGHTING). UPON LEAVING THE DEALER AND CONDUCTING HER OWN RESEARCH, THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE RECALL REPAIR COULD NOT BE COMPLETED WITHIN THE 15 MINUTE TIME FRAME AFTER DROPPING OFF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS STILL OPENED PER THE VIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
FOLLOW UP TO PREVIOUS COMPLAINT, RUNNING OUT OF CHARACTERS AND FILES NOT UPLOADING. THE VEHICLE HAS SLOWLY BUT INCREASINGLY BECOMING HARDER TO SLOW DOWN. DAY BY BY, THE VEHICLE REQUIRES MORE AND MORE BRAKE PRESSURE. NOT A SINGLE DEALERSHIP HAS PARTS FOR BOTH OUTSTANDING RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE (T59- BRAKE BOOSTER WATER SHIELD AND T-36 - ALTERNATOR AT EXCEPTIONAL RISK OF CATCHING FIRE.) MOPAR HAS NO IDEA WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE EITHER. ACCORDING TO THE NHTSA POLICY FOR AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURERS WHO ISSUE RECALLS, THEY MUST DO SO IN A TIMELY MANNER. FOR T59, THE WATER SHIELD AFFECTING BRAKING ABILITY BEING ISSUES IN NOVEMBER OF 2017, COMING INTO JANUARY OF 2018 STILL WITH NO PARTS IS ABSURD EVEN MORE ABSURD THAN THAT IS THE T36 RECALL OF SEVERAL DIFFERENT MODELS, STATING THAT THE ALTERNATOR CAN POTENTIALLY CATCH FIRE WHICH COULD ALSO LEAD TO A VERY DEVASTATING SITUATION. THAT RECALL WAS ISSUED IN JUNE OF 2017 AND IT IS JANUARY OF 2018 AND THOSE REPLACEMENT ALTERNATORS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. MY CAR HAS BECOME A TICKING TIME BOMB JUST WAITING TO GO OFF AND I DO NOT FEEL LIKE DODGE IS TAKING THESE RECALLS SERIOUSLY ENOUGH. I DO FEEL LIKE THE BRAKING ISSUE RECALL HAS CONTRIBUTED TO MY ACCIDENT IN NOVEMBER, CREATING A POINT ON MY DRIVING RECORD, AND NOW A DMV HEARING FOR DRIVING COMPETENCY. THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN COMPROMISED SEVERELY, WHICH COMPROMISES MY SAFETY, MY PASSENGERS SAFETY, AND ALL OF THE OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AS WELL. DODGE/MOPAR SEEMS TO NOT CARE VERY MUCH ABOUT THESE ISSUES AND KEEP REFERRING ME TO THE DEALERSHIPS. IVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IN SINCE NOVEMBER BEFORE MY ACCIDENT TO HAVE THE WATER SHIELD EVALUATED AND BRAKES AS WELL FOR DAMAGE. AND GIVEN THE HISTORY OF RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE ALONE, THE OTHER 2 RECALLS FOR VANITY MIRROR WIRING POTENTIALLY CATCHING FIRE AND ALSO FUEL PUMP FAILURE, MY DODGE MET THE CRITERIA FOR BOTH.
2 SEPARATE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE AFTER MY VEHICLE HAS ALREADY HAD 2 OTHER RECALLS REPAIRED. THE FIRST ONE IS T59 REGARDING A BRAKE BOOSTER WATER SHIELD. I RECEIVED A LETTER REGARDING THE RECALL A WEEK OR SO BEFORE THANKSGIVING AND IT JUST STATED 'IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL'. I START MAKING PHONE CALLS TO DEALERS AND EVEN SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE PROVIDED PHONE NUMBER AT HUNTINGTON BEACH DODGE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. WHEN I SHOWED UP TO MY APPOINTMENT, THE SERVICE ADVISOR WAS RUDE AND ENDED UP TELLING ME THAT HE JUST PUT HIS LAST PARTS ON ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAD AN APPOINTMENT. I SHOWED UP FOR NOTHING. SO I CALL AROUND SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2017 TO FIND A DEALER WITH THE PARTS. NOBODY HAD THEM AND NOT ONE DEALERSHIP SEEMED TO BE IN A HURRY TO REMEDY THE RECALL, TELLING ME 'IT'S NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL'. WELL IT IS ACTUALLY, BECAUSE WHEN I LOOK AT THE CARFAX REPORT ON THIS VEHICLE, THE FIRST 7 MONTHS SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW IT WAS IN OKLAHOMA USED AS A RENTAL CAR FOR 17,000 MILES UNTIL IT WAS SOLD. IT WAS ALSO IN OKLAHOMA DURING THE WINTER MONTHS WHERE IT'S RAINING AND SNOWING, FALLING PERFECTLY IN LINE WITH THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE TO THIS DAY HAS YET TO BE INSPECTED FOR NUMEROUS REASONS INCLUDING ALL CONTACTED DEALERSHIPS MISSING THE PARTS NEEDED FOR REPLACEMENT AND LACK OF AVAILABILITY OF LOCAL DEALERSHIPS TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE. LOW AND BEHOLD, A WEEK AFTER RECEIVING THAT RECALL NOTICE, I ENDED UP IN A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE I COULD NOT SLOW DOWN IN TIME AND HAD TO TAKE A POINT ON MY DRIVING RECORD AND POTENTIALLY HAVE MY PREMIUMS RAISED. NOT ONLY THAT, THE CALIFORNIA DMV HAS ISSUED ME A MANDATORY HEARING IN WHICH I HAVE TO RETEST IN ORDER TO DETERMINE MY ABILITY TO DRIVE. A FEW DAYS AGO, I RECEIVED A DIFFERENT NOTICE THAT NOW READS 'URGENT RECALL' AND I'M STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE GETTING THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE, WHILE I DRIVE WITH ADEFECT * (RECALL RELATED INCIDENT) TS
I HAVE RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE ALTERNATOR DIODE THERMAL FATIGUE AND STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY RESPONSE TO FIX MY VEHICLE. THE RECALL FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS OUT SEPTEMBER AND HERE IT IS NOVEMBER AND I HAVE NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS RECALL. I FOUND THE RECALL ON LINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. UPON TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON, THE INDICATOR DID NOT ILLUMINATE AGAIN. THE DAY AFTER THE WARNING INDICATOR FLASHED, WHILE THE CONTACT WAS REVERSING THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING INDICATORS FLASHED, THE LIGHTS FLASHED, AND THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED NEAR THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. UPON TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, IT FAILED TO RESTART. THE CONTACT WAS NOT NOTIFIED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 17V572000 (SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE DEALER (ALL AMERICAN CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE FIAT OF SAN ANGELO, 4310 SHERWOOD WAY, SAN ANGELO, TX 76901, (325) 284-3032) INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT ON 11/27/17. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR ASSEMBLY WITH THE SAME PART, BUT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
RIGHT @ ABOUT 10 MILES AND HOUR THERE IS A CLUCK NOISE @ THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. DODGE TECHS CAN PIN POINT THE CAUSE. IT CAUSE SOME PERFORMANCE ISSUE BETWEEN 60 AND 75. I TOOK THE TRUCK IN MULTIPLE TIME AND THEY FIRST TOLD ME IT WAS THE DRIVE SHAFT. AFTER FIXING IT THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES. ALSO @120,000 I HAD A WORN CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS
UNDER LIGHT ACCELERATION THESE IS A RATTLING/ VIBRATION FROM FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. TYPICALLY BETWEEN 1000-3000RPM IN ANY GEAR OR ROAD CONDITION. SOUND IS EASILY AUDIBLE FROM INSIDE FROM ALL PASSENGERS. HAVE REPLACED WHEEL BEARINGS, STRUTS, SWAY BARS TRYING TO FIX WITH NO LUCK. 5.7 HEMI, AUTOMATIC, AUTO AWD/4LOW
MY DODGE DURANGO GOT AN ERROR ON THE DASH, INDICATING A CHARGING SYSTEM FAILURE AND IT SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING BURNING. SINCE THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL (T36) FOR A FAULTY ALTERNATOR I CONTACTED THE DEALER TO FIND OUT IF THEY HAVE THEM IN STOCK YET. THEY ASKED ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN. THE SERVICE ADVISER TOLD ME THAT IT WAS LIKELY THE ALTERNATOR THAT HAD FAILED. THE TECHNICIANS SUBSEQUENTLY TOLD HER IT WAS LITERALLY SMOKING AND THAT IT HAD DEFINITELY FAILED, AND THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER OF THE SUSPECT ALTERNATORS AS THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE NEW ONES FROM DODGE YET. DURING THE 5 DAYS THEY HAD MY CAR THE TECHS REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, BUT THE SYSTEM WAS STILL NOT CHARGING. THEY THEN FOUND THAT THE BATTERY HAD FAILED, PRESUMABLY DUE TO THE FAULTY ALTERNATOR WHICH WAS SHORTED INTERNALLY. AFTER REPLACING THE BATTERY, THE CHARGING SYSTEM WAS STILL NOT WORKING SO THEY DETERMINED THAT THE PCM (PROGRAMMABLE COMPUTER MODULE) HAD ALSO FAILED. THE SERVICE ADVISER CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER REP TO GET APPROVAL FROM CHRYSLER TO REPLACE THIS EXPENSIVE PART UNDER THE RECALL. THE REP CLAIMED THAT, SINCE THE INLINE FUSIBLE LINK ON THE CABLE FROM THE ALTERNATOR TO THE PCM HAD NOT BURNED UP, THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD CAUSED THE MODULE TO FAIL. (THERE WERE ZERO ISSUES WITH MY CAR PRIOR TO THAT ERROR LIGHT COMING ON.) HE WOULD HAVE US BELIEVE THAT ALL THE ELECTRICAL FAILURES WERE A HUGE COINCIDENCE AND DENIED RESPONSIBILITY. THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T AGREE AND WAS CERTAIN THE ALTERNATOR HAD CAUSED THE FAILURE. THEY WENT AROUND THE REP AND GOT IT COVERED UNDER AN EMISSIONS WARRANTY. HOWEVER, I HAD TO PAY A $150 DEDUCTIBLE WHICH IS WRONG. THIS RECALL POSES A SERIOUS RISK OF CAUSING A FIRE, LOSS OF ELECTRONIC CONTROLS. CHRYSLER SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DENY SUBSEQUENT DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE RECALLED ALTERNATOR FAILURE AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY $150.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE REVERSING THE VEHICLE TO PARK IN A PARKING AREA, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND, WHEN IT WAS RESTARTED, THE ABNORMAL NOISE CONTINUED. UPON INSPECTION UNDER THE HOOD, THE CONTACT OBSERVED SMOKE AND FLAMES. A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WAS PRESENT TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. THE ALTERNATOR ASSEMBLY WAS DISCONNECTED, BUT IT HAD BURNED ALONG WITH OTHER NEARBY PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (DWAYNE LANE'S CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM, 10515 EVERGREEN WAY, EVERETT, WA 98204, (425) 267-9000) AND THE PART WAS REPLACED WITH THE SAME PART AND THE BATTERY. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V572000 (SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
CAR WONT RUN I SWITCH THE KEY ON IT SOUNDS LIKE THE ENGINE ENTIRELY SHAKING AND IT JUST SOUNDS LIKE ITS GOING TO START BUT IT DOESN'T IT SHUTS OFF ON IT'S OWN. I GOT THIS CAR FROM CARMAX SUMMER OF 2014 I'M STILL PAYING FOR IT EVERY MONTH I'VE FIXED IT OUT OF POCKET FOR THE ALTERNATOR. WHICH WAS ONE OF THE RECALLS IT HAD. I TOOK IT ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO TO THE CHRYSLER CENTER NEAR BY AND HAD EVEN MORE VARIOUS RECALLS TAKEN CARE OF. I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS TIME I CALLED AND CHECKED IN WITH THE CHRYSLER CENTER I TOOK IT TO IS SAYING THERE'S NO NEW RECALLS ON MY CAR. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY MONTHLY FOR A CAR THAT I CANT DEPEND ON ITS NOW SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. I NEED HELP.
FUEL RELAY RECALL -- NO PROBLEMS BEFORE REPLACEMENT, REPLACED IN DEC 2015 AND SINCE HAVE HAD CAR STALL INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING KIDS TO SCHOOL 5 TIMES. THE THREE MOST RECENT HAPPENING AT A MORE FREQUENT BASIS -- AND IN LAST 90 DAYS. I LOSE TOTAL POWER OF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING, IT GOES INTO A STALL AND WE HAVE TO PULL OVER, LET IT SIT FOR !10 MINUTES AND IT WILL RESTART AND GO. TYPICALLY IT IS WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN AND GOING INTO A TURN OR BIGGER CURVE ON THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN BACK TO DODGE TO ASK THEM TO FIX -- DIOGNOSTICS TELLS THEM NOTHING WRONG AND THEY WILL NOT REPLACED THE ALREADY RECALLED (AND REPLACED) PART AS THEY SAY THEY CANNOT CONFIRM IT IS THE CAUSE. MEANWHILE, I AM DRIVING A CAR THAT MAY STALL AT ANYTIME EVEN THOUGH DEALERSHIP CANNOT FIND ON DIOGNOSTIC TESTS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V879000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, INTERIOR LIGHTING) DUE TO EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED A CASE, BUT THE CONTACT HAD NOT HEARD BACK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (LARRY H MILLER CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM ALBUQUERQUE, 8528 LOMAS BLVD NE, ALBURQUEQUE, NM 87110) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HIGH VOLTAGE CAUSED THE COMPUTER MAIN BOARD TO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 32398239. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER DADEL AND DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM LOCATED AT 16501 S DIXIE HWY MIAMI FL 33157 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. UPON LEAVING THE DEALER THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS INFORMED TO REPLACE THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE IT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BATTERY AND COMPUTER BOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE # 32410393 BUT DID NOT OFFER FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

YESTERDAY I STARTED MY 2011 DODGE DURANGO UP ON MY LUNCH BREAK. THE VEHICLE THEN OMITTED A HIGH PITCH SOUND. IT ALMOST SOUNDED LIKE SIRENS, AND THE SOUND GOT LOUDER AS I BEGAN TO DRIVE. ABOUT 30 SECONDS AFTER THE NOISE, MY BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER ARRIVING AT MY WORK 5 MINUTES LATER, I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HE SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE AN ALTERNATOR ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED A LITTLE OVER 3 HOURS WHEN HE ARRIVED TO MY WORK. HE POPPED THE HOOD, AND SMOKE HAD FILLED UP IN THERE. HE COULDN'T TELL WHERE THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM BECAUSE IT WAS EVERYWHERE. HE EVENTUALLY GOT INTO THE VEHICLE UNDERNEATH THE PASSENGER SEAT TO UNPLUG THE BATTERY. AT THAT POINT WE CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN I TRIED TO GET THE KEY FOB INTO THE IGNITION, IT WOULD NOT GO IN WITHOUT FORCE, AS SOMETHING HAD MELTED INSIDE THERE AS WELL. I CHECKED THE NHTSA DATABASE FOR ANY PROBLEMS, WHERE I DID FIND A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE FOR MY YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. HOWEVER, AFTER ENTERING MY VIN#, THE RECALL SAID IT DID NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER, AS THIS COULD HAVE TURNED OUT TO BE A DEADLY SCENARIO.

DRIVING ABOUT 1 MILE AND AIR CONDITIONER BY ITSELF WENT TO A LOWER SPEED, KEPT DRIVING FOR ABOUT ANOTHER 10 MILES AND PROCEEDED TO GET ON FREEWAY WHEN DID SO, DRIVERS SEATBEALT FLASHING THAT WAS NOT BUCKLED THEN ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WERE FLASHING AND THE AIR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. IT WAS HOT SO PROCEEDED TO ROW DOWN WINDOWS AND WAS NOT ABLE TO, ALMOST LIKE LOST POWER.. GOT OFF FREEWAY ( THANK GOD) AND GOT TO A STOP IN A SAFE PLACE, SMELT SOMETHING BURNING, TURNED OFF CAR WHEN DID SO WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT CRAZY AND THEN SAW SMOKE COMING FROM ENGINE. WAITED FOR AAA IN MEAN TIME TRIED TO START CAR BACK UP AND WOULDN'T BUDGE CLICKING SOUND (LIKE ALTENATOR) TRYING TO START CAR THEN IT COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, COMPLETELY DEAD!!!
ON AUGUST 19TH I WAS DRIVING WITH MY KIDS WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ALONG WITH MY SEATBELT WARNING LIGHTS STARTED TO GO ON AND OFF. MY RADIO AND MY CONTROL PANEL STARTED TO TURN ON AND OFF ON ITS OWN. ALSO THE AC STOPPED WORKING, IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS RUNNING BUT NO AIR FLOW WOULD COME OUT. THEN I BEGAN TO HAVE NO ACCELERATION. WE RESEARCHED THAT THERE WILL BE A RECALL ON THE ALTERNATORS FOR MY 2011 DURANGO BUT BECAUSE NOTHING HAS BEEN RELEASED DODGE TOLD US WE ARE ON OUR OWN. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND I HAD NO WARNING ABOUT WHAT COULD HAPPEN. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS IS OUR FAMILY CAR AND MY KIDS ARE WITH ME IN THE VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000(ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE IN DECEMBER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SHE WOULD NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR THE PREVIOUS REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
I HAVE A 2011 DODGE DURANGO WITH 53000 MILES ON IT. THE ALTERNATOR HAS WENT OUT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS A NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 17V435000 THAT DESCRIBES MY VEHICLE PERFECTLY, YET MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED. LUCKILY I GOT MY VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER BEFORE THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF DURING DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY OR ROAD. THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED. THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, ENGINE, ALTERNATOR THAT IS IN THE RECALL, YET THEIRS IS NOT INCLUDED. I REALLY HOPE DODGE/CHRYSLER EXPANDS THIS RECALL BECAUSE IT ISN'T JUST LIMITED TO THE VINS THAT THEY HAVE NOTIFIED. THE SYSTEM IS DEFINITELY MORE WIPESPREAD AND CAN BE PROVEN EASILY BY ALL THE COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE. I HAVE CONTACT DODGE AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN HELPFUL SO FAR. THIS WILL END UP COSTING ME ALMOST $900 ON A PART THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THEY NEED TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS.
THE TRANSFER CASE IN MY VEHICLE RECENTLY HAD AN ISSUE. THE INTERNAL CHAIN WOULD SLIP ON ACCELERATION AND THE RATE OF ACCELERATION WOULD BE LIMITED BY THIS EVENT. IT WOULD OCCUR ON MILD TO HARD ACCELERATION BUT SLOW ACCELERATION IT WAS NOT NOTICED OR DID NOT OCCUR. MY THEORY IS ON MILD TO HARD ACCELERATION MORE POWER IS TRANSFERRED TO THE FRONT WHEELS THUS PUTTING MORE ENERGY INTO THE FAILING CHAIN CAUSING THE SLIP. YOU COULD HEAR AND FEEL THE DEEP THUD/CLICKING NOISE AS THIS HAPPENED. BECAUSE IT LIMITED ACCELERATION THIS IS POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS WHEN CROSSING FREEWAYS WITH CARS GOING 50-70 MPH AND YOU NEED TO MAKE A CROSSOVER. MY FAMILY DOES THIS DAILY. THE REPAIR WAS DELAYED BECAUSE THE MECHANIC COULD NOT OBTAIN THE PARTS. THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FROM THE MOPAR DEALERSHIP NETWORK ANYWHERE. THE MECHANIC EVENTUALLY HAD TO LOCATE A USED PART, ARRANGE DELIVERY, AND REBUILD A FUNCTIONING TRANSFER CASE FROM MY OLD ONE AND THE SALVAGED PART. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAS A HIGH FAILURE RATE AND THAT IS WHY THE PART WAS DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN, THE COST WAS CONSIDERABLY MORE, AND THE REPAIR RAN SEVERAL EXTRA DAYS. HIS INITIAL ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR WAS $1600. THE FINAL BILL WAS $2500. THE VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED ON THE THURSDAY MORNING 8/17/17 WITH AN EXPECTED DIAGNOSIS BY THE END OF THE NEXT DAY. ON 8/18/17 THE EMPLOYEES TOLD ME ABOUT THE ISSUE WITH THE PART. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED ON 8/14/17 APPROXIMATELY 2 DAYS LONGER THAN EXPECTED BECAUSE OF THE PART AVAILABILITY.

THE DEALER (RAM COUNTRY CHRYSLER, PLYMOUTH, DODGE, JEEP, LOCATED AT 36111 US -90, DEL RIO,TX, 78840) WAS CONTACTED AT 888-636-1505 WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL), HOWEVER THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE SCHEDULE TO BE BROUGHT IN TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, HOWEVER THAT SHE WOULD ESCALATE THE FAILURE BUT NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.
DRIVING HOME FROM A FAMILY TRIP 220 MILES AWAY MY 2011 DURANGO DASH LIGHTS AND GAGES WENT HAYWIRE FLICKERING ON AND OFF, WINDOWS WOULD NOT ROLL DOWN, AC WENT OUT BUT HEAT WAS BLOWING, LOUD HIGH PITCH SOUND CAME FROM THE ENGINE, RADIO WENT OUT, WIPERS GOING ON FULL SPEED AND COULD NOT TURN THEM OFF. FINALLY WE LOST POWER STEERING, PARKED AND THE CAR SHOOK BAD AS WE TURNED IT OFF. WENT TO TURN ON AND NOTHING IT WOULDN'T START. AAA CAME OUT SAID ALTERNATOR WAS TOAST, REPLACED THAT THEN IT SAID BATTERY WAS DEAD,( COULDNT EVEN GET THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL TO TOW), SO REPLACED THAT. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FOR ABOUT 3 MILES AND IT STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN BUT THIS TIME A BAD SMELL (BURNING SMELL) CAME FROM UNDER THE PASSENGERS SEAT, BATTERY WAS MAKING A SOUND AND WAS EXTREMELY HOT! I HAD MY 3 LITTLE KIDS IN THE CAR WITH ME AND THIS THING COULD HAVE BLOWN SO WE HAD IT TOWED! IT HAS 79000 MILES ON IT, NEVER HAD AN ISSUE, AND JUST HAD THE RECALL DONE ABOUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR THAT SUPPOSEDLY PREVENTS THIS! THE DEALERSHIP HAS IT NOW. IVE JUST DUMPED $700+ AND IT DIDNT EVEN FIX IT! THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT FOR MY FAMILY AND OTHERS OR WORSE CAUGHT ON FIRE WITH US IN IT! THIS WAS MY FIRST DODGE AND WILL BE MY LAST ESPECIALLY IF DODGE DOES NOTHING TO FIX THIS!

WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD, SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR AND IT WAS VERY HOT. WHEN I GOT THE VEHICLE HOME THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED OF ELECTRICAL POWER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WAS AWAITING A CALLBACK TO VERIFY IF THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE UPCOMING RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,300.
ELECTRICAL CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND I NOTICED THERE WAS SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HOOD. PULLED INTO A DRIVEWAY AND OPENED THE HOOD AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS SMOKING. I TOOK PICTURES OF THIS WHICH ARE ON MY PHONE IF NEEDED. IT TOOK OUT THE BATTERY AS WELL RESULTING IN ME HAVING TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE THERE BECAUSE ALL SYSTEMS WERE OUT.

I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY AND THE TRUCK SUDDENLY JUMPS INTO 4LO, SO I TOGGLE WITH THE AWD TRANSFER CASE SWITCH, AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DOING SO IT FINALLY STARTS DRIVING RIGHT. IT HAPPENED WITH MY WIFE AND SON, AND THEY WERE ALMOST WIPED BY A 18 WHEELER WHEN IT JUMPED INTO 4LO AND SLOWED DOWN ABRUPTLY AND THEN JUST DIED ON THE HIGHWAY, THIS HAS HAPPENED A NUMBER OF TIMES, NOW THE TRANSFER CASE IS DAMAGED, AND THE TRANSFER CASE SWITCH IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE BECAUSE THEY ARE FAULTY. IT GOT SO BAD THAT IT STOPPED CHANGING GEARS, IT WOULD ONLY GO TO PARK, BUT IT WOULDN'T ENGAGE BECAUSE OF THE SWITCH CANCELLING OUT THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR.
WHILE SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT MY WIFE NOTICED SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD, WHEN SHE PULLED OVER SHE FOUND THE ALTERNATOR SMOKING. SHE IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE CAR OFF , BUT PARTS OF THE ALTERNATOR ARE BURNT. THE BATTERY WAS EXTREMELY HOT AS WELL TELLING ME IT WAS OVERCHARGING.

HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR. ALSO BLEW BATTERY, ENGINE COMPONENT AND OTHER THINGS. SO FAR, IT IS NOT SHOWING UP UNDER ANY RECALL BUT HOPING .., I HAVE CALLED FAC AND GAVE THEM THE INFORMATION.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, MY BATTERY INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE HIGHWAY. UPON DOING SO, I COULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING. I PULLED INTO AN AUTO ZONE IN SALLISAW, OK. I ASKED AN EMPLOYEE TO TEST MY BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. WHEN THE HOOD OF MY 2011 DODGE DURANGO CITADEL WAS LIFTED, IT APPEARS MY 220 AMP ALTERNATOR WAS BURNING. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM IT AND IT HAD THE SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING. MY CAR SHUT OFF. I HAD TO BE TOWED TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT MY ALTERNATOR DID BURN AND IT ALSO FRIED MY BATTERY AND THE PCM MODULE. ALL 3 REPAIRS AND LABOR COST ME $1,600, NOT INCLUDING THE TOWING OF MY VEHICLE. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT I'M NOT HE ONLY CUSTOMER WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS. UNFORTUNATELY, THE RECALL IS ONLY ON THE 160 AMP. THIS IS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE CHECKED. THE SERVICE GUYS STATED THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION AND THAT MY CAR COULD'VE EASILY CAUGHT FIRE TRAPPING US IN.

I GOT OFF WORK CAME TO VEHICLE ENTERED AND STARTED ENGINE AFTER ABOUT 1 MINUTE, A BUZZING SOUND CAME FROM UNDER THE DASH, THEN I BEGAN TO SMELL SMOKE LIKE BURNING WIRES OR SOMETHING ELECTRICAL UNDER THE DASH. THEN I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT (UNDER THE VEHICLES FRONT HOOD). BY THIS TIME ABOUT 1 MINUTE HAD PASSED WITH THE ENGINE IDLING IN PARK. I OPENED THE HOOD AND LOOKED IN TO SEE THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS SMOKING AND RED HOT INSIDE. I TRIED TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE, BUT NO RESPONSE FROM THE IGNITION BUTTON, THEN CRAZY ELECTRICAL THINGS HAPPENED WITH LIGHTS DASH WIPERS AND ETC., THEN THE ENGINE DIED, AND THERE WAS NOT ANY POWER OR BATTERY EVERYTHING WAS DEAD. I AM GLAD I WAS NOT OUT ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED, OR HAD THE FAMILY WITH ME. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AUBURN TRANSMISSION AND AUTO REPAIR. PH. I THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE SOME KIND OF FUSEABLE LINK TO PREVENT SUCH A THING FROM OCCURRING. THAT IS A MOST DANGEROUS DESIGN, FIRE PRONE.

ALL GAUGES RADIO AND LIGHTS SHUT OFF AND ENGINE ACTED LIKE IT WAS OFF WHILE ACCELERATING TO SPEED

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC (DAVE GRIMMS) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000(ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO THE AMP BEING A 180 NOT A 160. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 94,000.
ON JULY 3 I WAS DRIVING OUR VEHICLE ON A COUNTRY ROAD WHEN THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. WE HAD BEEN ON VACATION AND FIGURED THE CAR HAD SAT FOR 10 DAYS WITHOUT BEING DRIVEN AND JUST NEEDED A CHARGE. THE LIGHT INDICATOR CAME AND WENT BEFORE THE CAR STARTED DOING WEIRD THINGS: HAZARD LIGHTS, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, SEATBELT LIGHT, ETC. THE CAR QUICKLY LOST POWER AND EVERYTHING LOCKED UP LEAVING US STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF A GRAVEL ROAD. WE COULDN'T EVEN RELEASE THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION. THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL AND THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT, IN TURN BURNING UP THE EMS SYSTEM. THIS PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. WE HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR OVER TWO WEEKS NOW. THE RECALL FOR THE ALTERNATOR WAS FOR A SMALLER AMP. OURS IS A 220AMP. THEY ARE TELLING US PRODUCTION OF THE PART MAY TAKE UP TO 10-12 MORE DAYS.

BURNING SMELL COMING FROM FRONT VENT AREA.NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NOTHING. CAR IS NOT HEATING UP..THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN A POOF OF WHITE SMOKE COMES OUT FROM FRONT DASH SOMEWHERE? DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHERE AS I WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT THE TIME. IT STOPPED WITHIN A FEW SECONDS. GOT HOME AND BUTTON TO OPEN GARAGE NOT WORKING.ALSO BLUETOOTH STOPPED WORKING. MY CAR HAS BEEN UNEXPECTEDLY BEEN SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF ROADS FOR AT LEAST THE PAST TWO YEARS. MAYBE ABOUT FIVE TIMES NOW. AND NOW HAT I THINK OF IT, AT LEAST TWO OF THOSE TIMES I WAS TURNING OR ATTEMPTING TO.TOOK IT IN WHILE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS VALID AND THEY SAID IT ISN'T COVERED. EVEN IF NOT, THIS IS SO DANGEROUS! IF I HADN'T OF RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM THIS MORNING, I WOULD HAVE BEEN CREAMED BY ABOUT TEN CARS COMING MY WAY. THE FCW LIGHT COMES ON AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF. I HAVE DONE THE CLEANING THING AND OBVIOUSLY THEY KNOW AT THE DEALERSHIP THIS IS AN ISSUE BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE BEING PLOWED INTO IN ORDER FOR THEM TO HAVE TO FIX IT?
