TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE POWER STEERING AND THE BRAKES ALSO FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE FAILURE RECURRED TEN TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED BUT THE SOFTWARE RELATED TO THE RADIO AND THE HANDS FREE MODULE WERE UPDATED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD BE IN CONTACT WITH THE DEALER TO DETERMINE A REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
THIS MORNING I STARTED MY CAR AS USUAL TO TAKE MY KIDS TO SCHOOL. I GOT ABOUT 1/2 MILE FROM MY HOUSE AND COULD SMELL AN ELECTRICAL BURNING TYPE SMELL. I PULLED OVER BUT COULD SEE NOTHING. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. I PROCEEDED ABOUT A MILE TO THE SCHOOL WITH THE SMELL STILL THROUGHOUT THE CAR. JUST BEFORE I PULLED BACK TO MY HOUSE GOING ABOUT 35 MILES PER HOUR MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, FOLLOWED BY MY BATTERY LIGHT. THE RADIO WENT ALL HAYWIRE AS WELL. I WAS ABLE TO PULL UP TO THE FRONT OF MY HOUSE. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND HAD MY HUSBAND COME TAKE A LOOK. HE OPENED THE HOOD AND SMOKE CAME OUT. IT SMELLED VERY HOT LIKE THERE WERE WIRES ON FIRE. I TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND NOTHING. I CAN'T EVEN GET MY KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. HE TOUCHED THE ALTERNATOR AND BURNED HIMSELF. I HAD TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP. IT SAT FOR 2 HOURS WAITING AND WHEN THE TOW DRIVER CAME HE COULD STILL SMELL THE BURNING AND WHEN HE TRIED TO TOUCH THE ALTERNATOR HE STILL COULDN'T SAID IT WAS VERY HOT. HE TRIED TO JUMP THE CAR AND SPARKS CAME SHOOTING OFF THE BATTERY TERMINALS ALSO. I HAVE NOTICED MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE AND NO RECALL???? ONLY THE 180 AMP ALTERNATORS??? LAST YEAR MY CAR HAD TO SIT FOR 4 MONTHS BECAUSE OF THE TIPM RECALL AND NO PARTS AVAILABLE. NOW THIS! I AM ALSO CONTACTING DODGE/CHRYSLER TO REPORT THIS ISSUE AS IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL ALTERNATORS.
THERE IS A KNOWN RECALL FOR THE 2011 DODGE DURANGO WITH THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR. WE HAVE A 180 AMP ALTERNATOR AND EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS AS THE RECALLED 160 AMP. OUR VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AFTER A SHORT DRIVE. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO INCLUDE THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR INTO THE EXISTING RECALL. A SHORT INTERNET SEARCH WILL REVEAL COUNTLESS OTHER VICTIMS.
VEHICLE QUIT WITH NO WARNING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE. NO FLASHERS!! COULD NOT GET CAR OUT OF GEAR TO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO MOVE VEHICLE. NO SHOULDER AS IT WAS ON AN OVERPASS. HAD TO ABANDON VEHICLE IN TRAVELED PORTION OF INTERSTATE 29. HAD SOME NEAR MISS WHERE OTHER DRIVERS HAD TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES LEAVING TIRE MARKS ON PAVEMENT IN ORDER NOT TO HIT OUR CAR. HUSBAND HAD TO DIRECT MORNING TRAFFIC AROUND CAR TILL POLICE COULD GET THERE. WORRIED THAT SOMEONE WOULD HIT IT AND GET HURT/KILLED. HUSBAND HAD NO SAFETY GEAR AND WAS PLACED IN A VERY UNSAFE POSITION TRYING TO KEEP OTHERS FROM HITTING OUR VEHICLE SITTING THE TRAVELED PORTION OF AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY.
TRAFFIC SLOWING DOWN IN FRONT OF ME, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT SLOWLY TO FLOOR AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK CAUSING ME TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, REAPPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY DID WORK CAUSING ME TO HIT THAT CAR AGAIN. THOUGHT THAT MAYBE MY FOOT WAS DEPRESSING BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE SO II USED MY LEFT FOOT, RESULT THE SAME. I DID THIS MANY MORE TIMES AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. I APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE AND PULLED OFF TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN I WAS SURE IT WAS SAFE. THIS HAPPENED IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE, I MANAGED TO AVOID HITTING ANY OF THE WORKERS AND THE 3 TRUCKS THAT THEY WERE USING. ONE OF THE WORKERS ASKED WHAT HAPPENED, I EXPLAINED TO HIM AND HE TRIED THE BRAKES, THEY WENT WERE SPONGY AND WENT SLOWLY TO THE FLOOR. CHECKED TO SEE IF THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF SHE HAD ANY INJURIES, SHE SAID SHE WAS ALRIGHT. THE IMPACT WAS NOT HARD BECAUSE WE WERE BOTH GOING THE SPEED. CALLED THE MICHIGAN STATE POLICE (REFER TO INCEDENT # 31-10985-16 AND CRASH REPORT S/N 228890) NO TICKET ISSUED. CALLED FOR WRECKER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER WAS GARBER, 5330 BAY ROAD, SAGINAW MICHIGAN 48604, PHONE # 989-399-8550, SERVICE ADVISOR LARRY COOK. THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, THEY CONTACTED CHRYSLER ENGINEERING. LEFT VEHICLE OVE NIGHT, CAUSE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. BRAKES WORKED FINE, BROUGHT VEHICLE HOME AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
ALTERNATOR CAUGHT FIRE, STALLED ENGINE, AND DESTROYED THE COMPUTER CHIP, BUT MANUFACTURER SAID IT WAS NOT THERE FAULT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING STRUCTURE. THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING AND THE COOLING SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 50MPH ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING AND THE HEATING SYSTEM TURNED ON UNEXPECTEDLY. APPROXIMATELY 1 MINUTE LATER THE CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. I LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. I WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO A TURN LANE WHERE THE BATTERY COMPLETELY DIED SO I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS. SEVERAL VEHICLES ALMOST COLLIDED WITH MY VEHICLE WHILE I WAITED FOR A TOW TRUCK. I WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT MY 180 AMP ALTERNATOR (NOT COVERED UNDER THE OTHER ALTERNATOR RECALL) FAILED WHICH DAMAGED THE SERPENTINE BELT, IDLER, AND TENSIONER PULLEYS, BATTERY, AND PCM. ALL THESE COMPONENTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH ADDED UP TO $2400. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
EVEN AFTER THE RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP RELAY IT WAS REPLACED , THE ENTIRE TIPM WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WITH MY WIFE AND THREE YOUNG CHILDREN IN MY 2011 DODGE DURANGO CREW I OBSERVED A SMELL OF SMOKE FROM THE HOOD COMPARTMENT. SECONDS LATER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT HAYWIRE AND EVERY LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING. HEAT BEGAN BLOWING FROM VENTS, WIPERS TURNED ON BY THEMSELVES. THE CAR SUDDENLY DIED AND I LOST CONTROL OF STEERING AS WELL AS BRAKING. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. WE REMOVED THE KIDS FROM THE CAR SO THEY WOULD BE SAFER. WHEN THE KIDS WERE OUT OF THE ROADWAY I POPPED THE HOOD AND OBSERVED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. I HAD TO HAVE MY DURANGO TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. MY MECHANIC REBUILT THE ALTERNATOR BUT ONCE IT WAS REBUILT THE CAR WOULDN'T START. MECHANIC PERFORMED TESTING AND DETERMINED THAT THE PCM WAS FRIED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY MECHANIC NOTIFIED ME THAT THE PCM AND ALTERNATOR FOR THE 2011 DURANGO WAS UNDER RECALL. WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY DURANGO WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. APPARENTLY THEIR ARE THREE SIZES OF ALTERNATORS IN THE 2011 DURANGO 160AMP, 180 AMP, AND 220AMP. ONLY THE 160 AMP IS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I HAVE CAME ACROSS HUNDREDS OF OTHER DURANGO OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ALL 2011 DODGE DURANGO'S SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE THIS IS THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AS THE DURANGO'S COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THIS COULD HAVE ENDED MUCH WORSE AS MY CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN HURT OR WORSE YET KILLED. DODGE NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE PARTS. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 54,000 MILES. WAY TOO EARLY TO BE PAYING FOR THIS KIND OF REPAIRS.
VEHICLE IN MOTION TRAVELING AT 65 MPH. VEHICLE LOST ALL ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL POWER. NO LIGHTS OR INDICATORS ON DASHBOARD. NO POWER STEERING. LIMITED BRAKING POWER. COASTED THE VEHICLE OUT OF TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. SHIFTED VEHICLE INTO PARK AND WAITED 5 MINUTES. AFTER 5 MINUTES ELECTRICAL POWER RETURNED AND WAS ABLE TO START VEHICLE AND DRIVE IT HOME. FOUND COMPLAINTS ONLINE OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS.
LOST TOTAL BATTERY POWER TO VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED. IT STARTED WITH A BURING METAL SMELL COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. DROVE VEHICLE 5 MILES ON A STATE HIGHWAY AT 55MPH WHEN THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. DROVE ANOTHER 10 MILES ON THE SAME ROAD AND SPEED, AND RADIO SHUT OFF, WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE TURNING ON AND OFF, POWER WINDOWS GOING UP AND DOWN ON THIER OWN, DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS TURNED ON AND OFF UNTIL FINALLY LOSING POWER STEERING AND THEN VEHICLE COMPLETELY DIED. LUCKILY I WAS SLOWING DOWN AND HAD A PARKING LOT TO COAST INTO AFTER TOTAL POWER FAILURE. TOWED VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND DETERMINED THE ALTERNATOR WENT BAD, WHICH CAUSED A SHORT TO THE BATTERY CAUSING THE BATTERY TO BECOME COMPLETELY DEAD AND DAMAGED, WHILE BLOWING THE FUSE PANEL. SEEMS LIKE THIS IS BECOMING A COMMON PROBLEM WITH DURANGOS THIS AGE WITH SIMILAR MILEAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY, LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE, AND NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP GASKET AND BEARING HOUSING FAILED. THE WATER PUMP, COOLANT, AND THERMOSTAT WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,600. UPDATED 12/20/16*LJ
ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 26TH 2016, I WAS DRIVING TO RICHMOND, VA FROM NEWPORT NEWS, VA WHEN MY BATTERY WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE LIGHT DID NOT COME BACK ON. I DECIDED TO MAKE A STOP IN WILLIAMSBURG TO THE OUTLET STORES AND THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. WHILE TURNING INTO THE STORES' PARKING LOT, ALL WARNING LIGHTS AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED FLASHING. RIGHT BEFORE PARKING THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN/OFF. THE VEHICLE SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING, BUT NO OBVIOUS FIRE. THE OUTLETS SECURITY CAME OVER AND HOOKED UP A JUMP BOX TO THE BATTERY. HE STATED THE BATTERY APPEARS LOW. HE TRIED TO JUMP THE BATTERY WITH THE JUMP BOX, BUT IT WOULD NOT START. HE TRIED WITH HIS SECURITY VEHICLE AND MY VEHICLE AND THE CONNECTIONS STARTED SMOKING. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3 HOURS, WAITED ON A FRIEND TO ARRIVE, CALLED TRIPLE A AND THE REPRESENTATIVE CONNECTED HIS JUMP BOX TO MY VEHICLE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE STARTED BUT AS SOON AS THE JUMP BOX REMOVED, THE VEHICLE WOULD DIE BACK DOWN. THE TRIPLE A REPRESENTATIVE AND MYSELF DETERMINED THAT THE ALTERNATOR IS BAD AND DRAINED THE BATTERY. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO POMOCO DODGE DEALERSHIP IN NEWPORT NEWS, VA. RESEARCHED INFORMATION AND THERE IS A RECALL NAMED P60 FOR 2011 DODGE DURANGO'S WITH A 3.6L ENGINE AND A 160 AMP ALTERNATOR. MY VEHICLE IS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO WITH A 3.6L ENGINE AND A 220 AMP ALTERNATOR. CONTACTED CHRYSLER DODGE AND THEY STATED THAT MY VIN DOESN'T QUAILITY, BUT THEY WILL LOG MY INFORMATION. AFTER CONDUCTING MORE RESEARCH, THIS ISSUE HAS MANY COMPLAINTS ON ALL 2011 DODGE DURANGO'S NO MATTER THE ALTERNATOR AMP (160, 180, 220). THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO COVER ALL THE 2011 DODGE DURANGOS AS IT IS VERY COMMON, VERY DANGEROUS, AND DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD. COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE ON THE INTERSTATED W/ MY DAUGHTERS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THERE WAS A PRESENCE OF SMOKE THAT EMITTED INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY STALLED AND THE CONTACT HAD TO CAUTIOUSLY COAST THE VEHICLE DOWN AN EXIT RAMP AND ONTO A LOCAL ROADWAY. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION UNDER THE HOOD, IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE ALTERNATOR ASSEMBLY AND THE BATTERY WERE BURNT. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED TO A DEALER WHERE THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED. THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER RECALL, BUT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED BECAUSE IT ONLY ADDRESSED THE 160 AMP AND NOT THE 180 AMP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE DURANGO, THE DASH LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING, THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND HEAT STARTED COMING OUT OF THE FLOOR VENTS. PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS NON-RESPONSIVE. WHEN ATTACHING JUMPER CABLES TO PROVIDE ELECTRICITY TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL SO IT COULD BE TOWED, THE CABLES GOT VERY HOT VERY QUICKLY AND THE TOWING COMPANY SAID THAT INDICATED THERE COULD BE A "DEAD SHORT" IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. FURTHER RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS WAS A REPORTED PROBLEM AND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE 2011 DODGE DURANGOS, BUT WHEN I ENTERED MY VIN NUMBER INTO THE DATABASE, IT DID NOT INDICATE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE RECALL. TO ME, THIS IS CLEARLY A MISTAKE OR OVERSIGHT AS MY VEHICLE OBVIOUSLY DIED WHILE IN THE PROCESS OF DRIVING IT. IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED THAT FURTHER REVIEW OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES BE COMPLETED AND REIMBURSEMENT BE MADE FOR REPAIRS COMPLETED AT MY EXPENSE.
THE CAR HAS AN INTERMITENT THAT DURING THE TRANSITION FROM COLD ENGINE OPERATION TO WARM ENGINE IF YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF OF THE GAS (TO SLOW DOWN FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR TO MAKE A TURN) THE ENGINE WILL STALL, LOSING POWER STEERING. IT IS INTERMITTENT IN THAT IT MUST BE AT A CERTAIN POINT IN THE WARM UP CYCLE. I AM UNABLE TO LET MY DAUGHTER DRIVE THE CAR AS SHE DOES NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO CONTROL THE CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING.
WHILE DRIVING, I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POWER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP WHERE AFTER MORE THAN A WEEK I WAS TOLD THAT MY ALTERNATOR FAILED AND COULD NOT HOLD A CHARGE, WHICH CAUSED MY BATTERY AND OTHER COMPONENTS TO FAIL. I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A 2011 DODGE DURANGO RECALL (# P60 / NHTSA 14V-634) DEALING WITH A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER TO THE ALTERNATOR. ALTHOUGH, THIS RECALL SEEMS TO MATCH MY VEHICLE DESCRIPTION AND PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD BY THE CHRYSLER COMPANY AND THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT MATCH THE RECALL LIST AND THERE MUST BE NO RELATION. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT MY CAR'S PROBLEMS MATCHED THE RECALL EXACTLY AND BASED ON THAT RECALL I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED THE $2,000 SPENT ON REPAIRS. *TR
68000 MILES, WHILE DRIVING BATTERY LIGHT INDICATOR CAME ON, A BURNING SMELL WAS PRESENT, COMING FROM THE ENGINE. A MILE OR TWO DOWN THE ROAD, SMOKE STARTED TO COME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WHEN I GOT BACK IN LATER ON THAT DAY, NO INDICATOR LIGHTS INITIALLY, THEN WHILE DRIVING ABOUT A MILE OR SO, BATTERY LIGHT APPEARED, THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THEN A/C STARTED BLASTING HOT AIR, DASH BOARD STARTING GOING HAYWIRE WITH LIGHT INDICATORS AND MESSAGE APPEARING, WIND SHIELD WIPERS STARTED GOING ON ITS OWN AND ACCELERATION WAS DIFFICULT. PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. TURNED IT BACK ON, LIGHTS WERE STILL PRESENT. MADE IT ANOTHER 2 MILES AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING IN THE STREET AND WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THEY DETERMINED IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR BURNED OUT, AND AS A RESULT A NEW BATTERY WAS NEEDED AS WELL. $1350.00 LATER!!! THANK GOODNESS TOWING WAS COVERED UNDER MY INSURANCE POLICY, BECAUSE DODGE CLAIMS THIS REPAIR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY! IT SHOULD BE!! VERY UNSAFE AND TOO YOUNG OF A VEHICLE FOR THIS KIND OF REPAIR! I DROVE MY 2011 DODGE DURANGO CREW 3.6L V-6 (102,980 MILES) FROM MY HOUSE TO THE DENTIST OFFICE (LESS THAN 2 MILES). I SMELLED A BURNING SMELL WHEN I PULLED UP AT THE DENTIST OFFICE. ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER MY DAUGHTER NOTICE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHILE WE WERE SITTING IN THE DENTIST OFFICE. I WENT OUTSIDE AND RAISED THE HOOD AND IT WAS SMOKING. A PERSON PASSING BY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLES BECAUSE HE FEARED IT WOULD CATCH ON FIRE DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF SMOKE. I WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE IT SO I CALLED A TOW TRUCK. I HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE ALTERNATOR($425) WAS DAMAGED. WELL THAT ALSO FRIED MY BATTERY ($162). THE HEAT ALSO DAMAGED THE COMPUTER ($1,000) WHICH WILL NOT ALLOW MY NEW ALTERNATOR TO HOLD A CHARGE. THERE WAS NO LIGHT, NOISE, OR ANY WARNING WHEN THE FAILURE HAPPENED. EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY IT STILL HAD A BURNING SMELL. BEFORE THE MECHANIC WOULD RELEASE THE VEHICLE HE TEST DROVE IT. POWER STEERING FAILED, WIPERS COMING ON, AND ENGINE IDLING UP AND DOWN. THAT IS WHEN IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE COMPUTER HAD BEEN DAMAGED. MY DURANGO HAS THE 220AMP ALTERNATOR SO DODGE DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I AM UPSET BECAUSE MY CHILDREN AND I COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED. IS IT GOING TO TAKE DODGE TO DO SOMETHING ONLY AFTER SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE? IT WAS SITTING AND BEGAN TO PUT OFF HUGE AMOUNTS OF SMOKE WITH NO WARNING.

I HAVE HAD A RECALL SINCE THE BEGINNING OF LAST YEAR, EACH TIME I CONTACT A DEALER THEY ARE STATING THAT PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL ISSUES.
