ELECTRIAL SHORT THAT RENDER ALL DASHBOARD GAUGES TO CEASE FUNCTIONING.N ADDITION, ELECTRICAL SHORT DID NOT ALLOW TRANSMISSION TO PROPERLY SHIFT GEARS.LECTRICAL SHORT CAUSED ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO CIRCUIT BOARD (SO THE DEALER CLAIMS)
I JUST FOUND THIS WEB SITE. AND NEVER REALIZED HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. MY FIRST PROBLEM WAS WHEN MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DROVE MY CAR ON THE NEIGHBORS LAWN BECAUSE YOU DO NOT NEED TO STEP ON THE BRAKE TO PULL IT OUT OF GEAR. I THEN LOOKED IN THE OWNER MANUAL WHICH STATED IT WAS EQUIPPED WITH THAT FEATURE. I HAVE CONTACTED EVERYONE I COULD AND NO ONE IS WILLING TO HELP OR SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. MY NEXT INCIDENT WAS WHEN MY SERPENTINE BELT BROKE WHICH CAUSED MY POWER STEERING PUMP AND PULLEY TO BREAK AND HAD PARTS DANGLING. THANK GOODNESS I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAVE HAD MY BRAKES DONE 3 TIMES, AND MY LATEST PROBLEM WAS MY HEATER CORE AND THERE WAS WATER LEAKING INSIDE MY CAR. I WISH SOMEONE COULD HELP I PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR THIS CAR! *NLM
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE WILL OFF, WHICH CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO PULL OVER. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK BEFORE THE CONSUMER RECEIVED THE LETTER, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AGAIN. *SCC *JB
THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE GETS DISCONNECTED CAUSING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO ENGAGE ON MY 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SPORT. *AK
SERPENTINE BELT SLIPPED OFF OF IDLER PULLEY. BELT WRAPPED AROUND CRANKSHAFT PULLEY, WHICH MADE THE TIMING BELT SLIP. POWER STEERING FAILED, CAUSING MY 18 YEAR OLD SON TO FIND A PLACE TO PULL OVER. ENGINE FAILED DUE TO TIMING OUT OF SEQUENCE.*AK COST TO REPAIR: $460 FOR TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT. BELT FAILED A SECOND TIME. IDLER PULLEY WAS REPLACED FOR $260.
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING THE BRAKES FAILED, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
THERE HAS BEEN A LEAK INTO PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FROM TOP OF HATCH OPENING. LEAK WAS HIDDEN BY PLASTIC COVERING AND NOT DETECTED UNTIL NOTICEABLE SMELL, POSSIBLE CAUSED BY MOLD. WATER IS ENTERING THROUGH A FAULTY WELD ON EACH SIDE OF THE UPPER HATCH OPENING. LEAK WAS ADDITIONALLY OBSCURED BECAUSE CARPET IS RUBBER BACKED. THE UNDERLYING PADDING WAS SOAKED FROM THE REAR UP TO THE MIDDLE ROW OF SEATS. THIS HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN ONGOING FOR A CONSIDERABLE TIME, BUT WAS UNDETECTABLE DUE TO IT'S LOCATION. THE VAN IS 3 1/2 YEARS OLD BUT HAS ONLY 31,300 MILES. THE WELDS SHOULD NOT FAIL IN THIS SHORT TIME. THIS IS EITHER A DESIGN FLAW OR A MFG DEFECT. MANY PEOPLE MAY HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND NOT KNOW ABOUT IT. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE AREA WHERE THE WATER IS ENTERING. THERE IS NO SPECIFIC DATE OF INCIDENT, BUT I FIRST NOTICED A SMALL AMOUNT OF WETNESS SOMETIME LAST YEAR. I THOUGHT IT HAD DRIPPED OFF THE OPEN HATCH. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES.*AK
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM LEAKAGE AS STATED IN RECALL 00 V 268 000, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *AK *SCC *JB
VEHICLE WHEEL ROTORS RUSTED.*MR THE FRONT WHEEL ROTORS WERE "PITTED AND RUSTED" PREMATURELY, AND CONSUMER RECEIVED CONTRADICTING ANSWERS AS TO WHY AND HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN WITH 27121 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. *PH *JB
THE FRONT ROTORS RUSTED AND THE PADS WORE OUT BEFORE 50000 MILES. *NLM THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO NORMAL USE. PH *JB
SERPENTINE BELT CAME OFF EVERY TIME CONSUMER HIT A PUDDLE. THE BELT CAME OFF FOUR TIMES, AND WAS BEING SERVICED AGAIN.*AK
BRAKE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON, BUT ONLY WHEN TURNING LEFT. TOOK VAN TO DEALER WHERE BOUGHT NEW IN SEPT. 2000 - GUPTON MOTORS IN SPRINGFIELD, TN. SERVICE REP SAID THAT'S NORMAL AND IT MEANS BRAKES NEED REPLACING. REPLACED BRAKES. ALSO, TIRES DON'T LAST AS LONG AS THEY SHOULD, EVEN UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. RIDING ON 3RD SET WITH LESS THAN 65,000 MILES. DEALER HELP? YEAH, RIGHT. WHAT A JOKE! LOCAL INDEPENDENT GARAGE DIAGNOSED CURRENT PROBLEM AS BEING MASTER CYLINDER LEAK. NEEDS REPLACING. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER, BUT THEY SAY THEY KNOW OF NO PROBLEMS RELATING TO THIS. PARTICULAR DEALER DOESN'T CARE EITHER. I OWN A 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AND I WANT THE GEN 3 SEAT BELTS RECALLED. I ALWAYS MAKE SURE EVERYONE BUCKLES UP BEFORE I EVEN PUT THE VAN IN DRIVE, BUT WHAT GOOD WILL THAT DO IF THE SEAT BELT COMES UNDONE? *NLM
I HAVE SEEN ON TV AND READ ON THE UNSAFEBELTS.COM WEBSITE ABOUT THE DEFECT IN THE GEN3 SEAT BELTS CONTAINED IN MANY CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP VEHICLES. I AM REGISTERING A FORMAL COMPLAINT TO ASK THAT ALL GEN3 SEAT BELTS BE REPLACED FOR FREE BY THE MANUFACTURER WITH THE GEN4 SEAT BELTS.
WHILE DRIVING THE CONSUMER HEARD A GRINDING NOISE AND PULLED OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEFT FRONT AXLE HAD BROKEN. THE VAN HAS BEEN MODIFIED BY "BRAUN ENTERVAN" FOR DISABLED ACCESS. *NLM
I HAD THE BRAKES ON MY VEHICLE REPAIRED TWICE. THE FIRST TIME MY CAR HAD APPROX 40,000 MILES AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO THE WAY I DRIVE THE CAR. NOT MORE THAN 6 MONTHS LATER THE BRAKES STARTING VIBRATING AGAIN AND I TOOK IT BACK TO BURLINGTON DODGE - WERE THEY TOLD ME, ONCE AGAIN, IT WAS DUE TO THE WAY I DROVE THE CAR AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD EXCEPT REPLACE THEM AGAIN. MY MOST RECENT PROBLEM WAS THE AIR CONDITIONING TOTALLY MALFUNCTIONED. I SAW SMOKE COME OUT OF THE DASH AND WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR REPAIR THEY TOLD ME THE ENTIRE SYSTEM HAD COMPLETELY FAILED AND I HAD TO PUT IN A NEW A/C. *JB
THERE IS A CLUNKING LOOSE RATTLE SOUND UPON ANY TYPE OF MOVEMENT LOCATED SEEMINGLY AT THE BASE OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE MUST BE ROLLING FORWARD OR COMING TO A STOP TO BE HEARD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A SHOP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE NOISE BUT COULD NOT VISIBLY SEE A PROBLEM AND RECOMMENDED I HAVE THE DEALER TAKE IT APART. THE CLUNKING IS GETTING PROGRESSIVLEY WORSE AND LOUD.*AK
THE CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE FROM THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE, WHEN THE CONSUMER DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL, THE RPMS INCREASED, BUT THE SPEED DID NOT. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE TRANSMISSION DIFFERENTIAL FAILED WHICH RESULTED IN A $3000 REPAIR. *JB
I HAVE OWNED A 2000 GRAND CARAVAN FOR 6 MONTHS AND IT HAS 40 THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND I AM ALREADY HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME I HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT TO BE LOOKED AT ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION, NOW THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT NEEDS A TOTALLY NEW TRANSMISSION THIS VAN IS NOT THAT OLD AND DOES NOT HAVE THAT MANY MILES ON IT. I AM STARTING TO THINK I MADE A BAD CHOICE TRADING MY FORD IN FOR A DODGE VAN. *JB
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHOUT WARNING, THE DEALER STATED THE DIFFERENTIAL PIN WENT THROUGH THE TRANSFER CASE.*JB
I HAVE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY TRANSMISSION LEAKING FROM THE TRANSMISSION COOLANT HOSE. VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, TOOK TO DODGE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED HOSES AND CLAMPS, 1 MONTH LATER LEAKING AGAIN AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS PROBABLY A BAD PART. THEY REPLACED THEM AGAIN. 1 YEAR LATER PROBLEM RETURNS AND NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME TO REPLACE THE HOSES, THE REASON THIS HAPPENED ACCORDING TO THEM WAS THE HOSE CLAMPS THEY USED. NOW THEY HAVE CHANGED THE CLAMPS, THIS SHOULD NOT BE MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR SINCE THEY ARE CHANGING A MANUFACTURER'S PART. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. *JB
PINION PIN OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CAME OUT AND DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION. A STANDARD PIN RETAINING CLIP WOULD HAVE PRECLUDED THE PROBLEM. *JB

THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD WHEN IT WAS PUT INTO GEAR, THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED IT WAS CAUSED BY THE TRANSMISSION CYLINDER PACK, HOWEVER THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER.*JB
THE DIFFERENTIAL PIN POPPED OUT, WHICH CAUSED A NOISE WHEN THE VEHICLE COASTED. *JB THE DEALER STATED THAT IF THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BE DRIVEN, THE PIN WOULD PENETRATE THE TRANSMISSION, THEN SPILL FLUID AND BREAKDOWN. SCC
TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKS. FIRST IT APPEARED THAT IT WAS LEAKING FROM THE TRANSMISSION OIL PAN, 3 WEEKS LATER THE TRANSMISSION HOSES AND CLAMPS, TWO WEEKS LATER, ITS LEAKING FROM THE TRANSMISSION COOLANT PACKS. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY TWO AND A HALF YRS OLD, THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. BETWEEN EACH VISIT IT STOPPED LEAKING FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS.
IN JANUARY 2003 I EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM GETTING MY VAN TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE AFTER I HAD BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. ON FEBRUARY 17, 2003 MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE VAN AND EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS GETTING IT TO SHIFT GEARS WHILE HE WAS DRIVING IT. HE ADDED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND LATER THAT EVENING I DROVE THE VAN TO A STORE TWO MILES FROM OUR HOUSE AND AT 35 MPH THE RPMS WOULD NOT GO BELOW 3 AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP FIRST THING TUESDAY MORNING AND TOOK IT THE SHOP ON THURSDAY. THEY REPAIRED A LEAK IN THE TRANSMISSION (WHICH WE HAD HAD REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY) AND REPLACED THE WATER PUMP. TWO DAYS LATER WHILE OUT RUNNING ERRANDS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I HAD TO EXIT THE FREEWAY BECAUSE THE ENGINE WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS AGAIN AND AT 50 MPH (IN A 60 MPH ZONE) THE ENGINE WAS AT 4 RPMS. BEFORE I COULD GET HOME THE ENGINE QUIT IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY INTERSECTION WITH TRAFFIC COMING AT ME FROM BEHIND AT 55 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED BUT IT LURCHED FOR ABOUT A QUARTER MILE OR SO AND I JUST DROVE NO MORE THAN 30 MPH FOR THE NEXT 5 MILES TO MY HOME. MY HUSBAND TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SOLENOID (SORRY IF I MISSPELLED IT) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VAN HOME AND THEY WOULD CALL WHEN THE PART CAME IN. ON MONDAY, MARCH 3, HE CALLED AND SPOKE WITH THE PARTS DEPARTMENT AND THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THERE ARE 24,000 OF THIS PART ON BACKORDER NATIONWIDE. *NLM
PASSENGER SEAT HEATER BURNED THROUGH THE LEATHER SEAT.*JB
MY CAR JUST DIED IN THE MIDDLE NOWHERE ON ROUTE 42 ON THE WAY TO WORK. ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CARAVAN I OWN HAS ONLY 42,000 MILES ON IT. I DO NOT EVEN OWN IT FOR 2 YEARS. IT WAS A BUY BACK FROM THE DEALER. THE WARRANTY WAS ONLY FOR 3 YEARS OF 36,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC FROM THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. NOW I AM FORCED TO PAY OVER $1100 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE AGREED TO SPLIT THE BILL OF APPROXIMATELY $2200. I FEEL I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING AS THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED AND IS A DEFECT FROM THE CHRYSLER MANUFACTURER. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE COMPLAINING. THERE IS A WHOLE WEB SITE DEDICATED TO COMPLAINTS BY CONSUMERS WHICH I HAVE DOWN LOADED AND IS OVER 11 PAGES LONG. *JB
@37,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH BOARD AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO SAFETY MODE KEEPING IT FROM SHIFTING OUT OF FIRST GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MODULE AND THE VEHICLE WORKED OK FOR ANOTHER 2000 MILES BEFORE IT DID THE SAME THING. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED IT WAS A DIFFERENT MODULE HOWEVER (THEREFORE IT WOULDN'T BE COVERED UNDER THEIR REPAIR WARRANTY) THE FIRST REPAIR COST $160.00 AND THE SECOND ONE WAS ANOTHER $130.00. THE DEALERSHIP WAS VENICE DODGE IN VENICE, FLORIDA
THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD NOISE, CONSUMER PULLED OVER AND NOTICED TRANSMISSION FLUID ALL OVER THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, IT WAS DETERMINED THE PINS WHICH WERE LOCATED INSIDE OF THE DIFFERENTRAL WAS BENT AND HAD SHOT OUT OF THE CASING. *JB
VECHILE WILL SHIFT INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE WITHOUT BRAKES APPLIED. ANY CHILD COULD SHIFT WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND COULD CAUSE FATAL ACCIDENT. *LA
BRAKES ON OUR 2000 GRAND CARAVAN GO OUT ON US ABOUT ONCE EVERY 3-6 MONTHS SINCE WE PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW IN JULY 2000. MASTER CYLINDER HAS BEEN REPLACED MORE THAN ONCE, BRAKES HAVE BEEN BLED, ABS PUMP HAS BEEN REPLACED, AND WE ARE NOW LEAKING FLUID AND READY TO HAVE IT SERVICED AGAIN. THIS IS A FAMILY VEHICLE THAT I DON'T ALWAYS FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN. WE ONLY HAVE 17,800 MILES ON THE VAN, I WONDER IF WE DROVE IT MORE OFTEN IF WE WOULD BE IN THE SHOP EVEN MORE FREQUENTLY.THREE TIMES I HAVE GONE TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND HAVE ALMOST ENDED UP IN THE NEIGHBOR ACROSS THE STREETS YARD. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VAN WAS PURCHASED HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TO ACCOMODATE US AND WON'T EVEN GIVE US A GOOD DEAL ON A TRADE-IN SO THAT WE CAN GET RID OF IT.
AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM HAD TO BE FIXED WITHIN 3 YEARS OF HAVING THE CAR- WHICH WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN 2000. WE SPENT OVER 2K DOLLARS TO FIX A HUGE LEAK AND REPAIR THE TWO SYSTEMS IN THE CAR. I (SINCE 2005) AM NOW SEEING THAT THE AIR STOPS COOLING IF I IDLE OR WE DRIVE FOR TOO LONG, IT WILL NO LONGER BLOW OUT THE FRONT NOR BE COOL...IT BLOWS OUT THE TOP (LIKE THE DEFROSTER) AND IS NOT COOLED.
MY 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SPORT ALL WHEEL DRIVE DEVELOPED A THUMPING NOISE IN THE FRONT DRIVE TRAIN. I TOOK IT TO COUNTY CHRYSLER, HAMBURG, PA - A 5 STAR CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE DEPT. THERE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE RESULT OF A WORN OUT POWER TRANSFER UNIT. THE COST TO REPLACE IT INCLUDING THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR LABOR WILL APPROACH $3,000. SINCE THE VAN IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND HAS ONLY 67 THOUSAND MILES ON IT, IT SEEMS LIKE THE POWER TRANSFER UNIT MUST BE EITHER CHEAP OR DEFECTIVE. WITH ONLY THIS MUCH MILEAGE TO HAVE TO REPLACE MAJOR POWER TRAIN COMPONENTS MAKES ME THINK THAT THERE MUST BE A PROBLEM WITH EITHER THE DESIGN OR THE PARTS QUALITY.

SHORTLY AFTER BUYING THIS VAN WITH IN A YEAR THE VAN WAS MAKING A GRINDING NOISE,TOOK IT BACK ON MARCH 2002 , THAY SAID IT WAS REPAIRED.ON A HIGHWAY IN JAN. 01 2003,THE CAR WAS ON ROUTE 1 AND IT SUDDENLY WENT FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL,DOING50 MILES AN HOUR IN THE FAST LANE,I HAD TOGO TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE JUST MISSING SEVERAL CARS BEFORE I RELIEZED THE ENGINE WAS RACING.THIS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE,OF COURSE I THOUGHT SHE WAS CRAZY,BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN WEN MY SON WAS DRIVING ,THIS AFTER BEING BROUGHT IN FOR TRANSMISSION WORK AT IRA DODGE IN MEDFORD WHICH COST ME 615.97 MARCH 19 2003,PROBLEM WAS STILL HAPPINING AND I WENT TO MELROSE DODGE AND ALL HE DID WAS AJUSTED SHIFTER LINKAGE FOR 85.00 DOLLERS. NO PROBLEM SINCE THANK GOD. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE VANS. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEN BUCKLING THE CHILD INTO THE INTEGRATED CHILD RESTRAINT IT WOULD NOT LATCH PROPERLY CAUSING THE CHILD NOT TO BE RESTRAINED PROPERLY. DEALER NOTIFIED. TS
TRANSMISSION FAILURE - WHEN PLACED INTO DRIVE THE GEARS FAILED TO ENGAGE (ESPECIALLY WHEN COLD). THIS VAN IS 2+YEARS OLD WITH ~62,000 MILES. FIXED AT SMITH BROTHERS IN OLD SAYBROOK, CT AND REQUIRED NEW PART DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE CLUTCH HUB IMPUT WHICH BROKE DOWN SENDING METAL PARTS THROUGHOUT THE TRANSMISSION. (VERY EXPENSIVE FOR A CAR THIS NEW!). I CAUGHT THIS PROBLEM EARLY ENOUGH TO AVOID THE POTENTIAL DISASTER OF A HIGH SPEED FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN IT'S FRONT END ALIGNMENT. SINCE PURCHASE THE FRONT END HAS BEEN ALIGNED TWICE. ON 12/20/00 THE FRONT 2 TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED ANT THE FRONT END ALIGNED (NATIONAL TIRE, NIANTIC CT). THIS PAST SUMMER (I DON'T HAVE THE EXACT DATE HANDY) THE FRONT END HAD TO BE REALIGNED AGAIN AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE DRIVER SIDE WAS WAY OUT (AUTO SERVICE OF OLD SAYBROOK, 4 JADE COURT, OLD SAYBROOK, CT). THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSED EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR BUT DANGER WAS MINIMIZED DUE TO REGULAR INSPECTION.
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PAN WAS LEAKING. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE CHECKED BY A MECHANIC, WHO INDICATED THAT THIS WAS A RESULT OF THE TRANSMISSION PAN BEING MADE WITH SILICONE. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE MAKE/MODEL VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE DETAILS.
THE TRANSAXLE IN THE TRANSMISSION BLEW APART IN THE GEAR CASE AT 76,000 MILES ON OUR 2000 CARAVAN AND NINE DAYS AFTER THIS THE LEFT FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLE WAS SHOT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.
MY 7 YEAR-OLD SON WAS KILLED ON 12/21/02 BECAUSE MY 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WENT INTO GEAR WITH OUT STEPPING ON THE BREAK. THE VAN ROLLED DOWN A DRIVEWAY AND MY SON HAD HIS HEAD OUT THE WINDOW AND HE HIT A TREE AND WAS KILLED. GRANTED I AM PARTIALLY AT FAULT FOR LEAVING CHILDREN UNATTENDED FOR LESS THAN 2 MINUTES BUT THE VAN SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO GO OUT OF GEAR WITH OUT STEPPING ON THE BREAK. THIS IS NOT A FAMILY SAFE VEHICLE. I KNOW FOR A FACT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT HAS RAN INSIDE BECAUSE THEY FORGOT SOMETHING AND THE CHILDREN WERE LEFT IN THE VEHICLE. I JUST WANT DODGE TO BE MADE TO PUT THE SAFETY DEVICE ON THEIR VEHICLES SO NO OTHER CHILDREN ARE NOT HURT OR KILLED. THE 2003 DODGE NEON ARE ALSO THE SAME WAY. TRANSMISSION FAILURE OCCURRED AT 58,822 MILES ON THE 2000 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN I OWN. THE PROBLEM WITH MY TRANSMISSION WAS THAT THE SPLINES OF THE FRONT PLANETARY STRIPPED BECAUSE THEY WERE MADE WITH A SOFTER METAL THAN THE UNDERDRIVE CLUTCH HUB. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT DAIMLER CHRYSLER SHOULD ADDRESS. WHEN I CONTACTED DAIMLER CHRYSLER, I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS MY FAULT, BECAUSE I HAD NOT CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AT THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE INTERVAL, AND I WAS 22,000 MILES OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THERE IS NOT A TRANSMISSION FLUID I AM AWARE OF THAT WILL MAKE THOSE SPLINES STRONGER. TS
I HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 7 TIMES TO FIX ELECTRICAL ISSUES. WHEN HEADLIGHTS ARE ON DASH FUNCTIONS CRASH, LOCKS DON'T WORK, WIPERS DON'T WORK, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. DEALER HAS REPLACED FUSES, RE-WIRED, REPLACED BODY CONTROL MODULE. DEALER IS UNABLE TO RESOLVE PROBLEM. NOW DEALER ADVISES THAT IN ORDER TO FIX THE PROBLEM, IT WILL REQUIRE 3 ELECTRICAL HARNESSES, COSTING $3000! *JB
WE HAVE A DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH GEN3 SEAT BELTS AND HAVE HAD THEM COME UNBUCKLED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN USING A CHILD SAFETY SEAT. *NLM

WHILE VEHICLE WAS AT DEALER FOR TIRE REPLACEMENT, MECHANIC NOTICED THE FRONT ROTORS WERE RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. FRONT ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. TS
THE VEHICLE CAN BE SHIFTED INTO REVERSE OF DRIVE FROM PARK WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKE. *TS *NLM
VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP 6 TIMES FOR THE SAME REPORTED ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. WHEN VEHICLE WENT OVER BUMPS, TURNED RIGHT, OR OWNER TURNED ON THE HEAT.....THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD FLASH, DOOR LOCKS WOULD GO UP AND DOWN, AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT AND THE DOOR AJAR LIGHTS ON THE DASH WOULD FLASH. EACH TIME WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO BE CHECKED WE WERE TOLD THAT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WERE HARD TO DIAGNOSE UNLESS IT WAS PHYSICALLY HAPPENING WHILE BEING DIAGNOSED! THE DEALERSHIP ADJUSTED THE DOORS AND REPLACED THE BCM MOTOR UNDER THE DASH HOWEVER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS CONTINUED AND ON 10/11/02 THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE IN THE DASH BY THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE!!! WE GOT OUT WITHOUT INJURY THANK GOODNESS BUT THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY ENGULFED WITHIN 6 MINUTES! TO DODGE THIS WAS NO LOSS TO SUCH A LARGE COMPANY BUT TO MY HUSBAND AND I...IT COULD HAVE BEEN OUR 4 CHILDREN! MR
