POWER DOOR LOCKS QUIT WORKING. I READ THAT THERE IS A SOFTWARE FIX FOR THIS, BUT I CAN'T AFFORD TO DO THIS. I HAVE READ LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE AND THINK THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL DO TO SAFETY MATTER. *TR
PURCHASED VEHICLE NEW. HAVE ALWAYS TOPPED GAS PAST INITIAL CLICK. SOMETIME FROM THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR, AFTER TOPPING OFF THE GAS TANK, VEHICLE STARTED BUCKING AND ENGINE QUIT. FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES, COULDN'T FIGURE OUT PROBLEM. THEN REMEMBERED IT ALWAYS HAPPENED AFTER FILL UP. STARTED VARYING TOPPING OFF, AND WAS ABLE TO NOTICE LENGTH OF PROBLEM RELATED TO AMOUNT OF TOP OFF. LAST COUPLE OF FILL UPS, WENT TO FIRST CLICK AND STOPPED. DID NOT RESOLVE PROBLEM, BUT KEPT SEQUENCE OF VEHICLE BUCKING AND ENGINE QUITTING. ENGINE HAD ALSO DIED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. ON LAST FILL UP, WAS PREPARING TO TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR CHECK OF PROBLEM. AFTER FILLING TANK (TO FIRST CLICK), WAS AT SIGNAL LIGHT, WAITING TO MAKE A TURN. VEHICLE STARTED BUCKING, ENGINE DIED. PUT TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL, STARTED MOTOR, THEN A SOUND LIKE CARBURETOR BACKFIRE OCCURRED. ENGINE WENT TO HIGH IDLE, SIGNAL LIGHT CHANGED, SO PROCEEDED TO DRIVE. HAD SOUND LIKE A/C COOLANT LOW. SPEED WAS BARELY CONTROLLABLE. HAD TO USE BRAKES. GAS PEDAL CONTROL WAS ERRATIC. SEEMED TO STAY AT LEVEL APPLIED. TOOK TO DEALER NEXT MORNING. HAD FAILURE CODE (#PO507), AND EVENTUALLY THEY SAID "PVC VALVE HOSE TO UPPER PELIUNM" HAD CAME OFF. NEVER HAD A "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. HAVE NOT HAD FILL UP SINCE, BUT WILL SOMETIME THIS WEEK. HAVE BEEN LOOKING IN HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL, AND NOTICED THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF CHECK VALVE TO KEEP FUEL FROM ENTERING AIR INTAKE. DEALER DID NOT BRING UP THIS IDEA, BUT DID MENTION ANOTHER CUSTOMER HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM BY TOPPING OFF. LOOKED UNDER VEHICLE AND NOTICED TWO VALVES/CONNECTIONS AT LOWER LEVEL OF GAS TANK. *TR
2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AUTO LOCKS STOP WORKING. SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE ONLY DRIVER DOOR WORKS. WITH CHILDREN THIS IS A HAZARD. NOT SAFE IN PARKING LOTS AND CAN ONLY ENTER ON ONE SIDE OF VEHICLE. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED. *TR
2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN MFG 6-05 THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON AND THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE FRONT RIGHT SENSOR. I REPLACED THE PART AND FOUND THE PIN ON THE SENSOR WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED OFF ON THE PURPLE WIRE. I BOUGHT THE CONNECTOR KIT TO REPLACE THE PLUG TO THE SENSOR. WHEN I STRIPPED THE WHITE WIRE THE WIRE IS ALSO CORRODED. IT IS BLACK AND TARNISHED. I CHECKED BACK TO 8 INCHES AND COULD NOT FIND CLEAN COPPER. I KNOW THAT THE SENOR WAS IN A RECALL UP TO FEB. 08, BUT I THINK THERE MAY BE OTHER ISSUES INVOLVED IN THE FAILURES. I STILL HAVE THE SENOR AND CONNECTOR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE POWER LOCKS IN THE VEHICLE ARE NO LONGER FUNCTIONING. THE KEYLESS REMOTE ALSO WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK THE VEHICLE; THEREFORE, IT CAN ONLY BE MANUALLY LOCKED AND UNLOCKED. THE VEHICLE WILL ALSO NOT LOCK WHEN IT IS PLACED INTO DRIVE. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 30,721. UPDATED 06/25/08. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR IS USING THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND THE UNLOCKING IT FROM THE INSIDE MANUALLY. UPDATED.
THE POWER DOOR LOCKS HAVE BEEN FAILING INTERMITTENTLY FOR 3 YRS. I UNHOOK THE IOD FUSE OR THE BATTERY CABLE MOMENTARILY AND THIS SEEMS TO WORK FOR A WHILE. THE DOOR LOCKS WOULD WORK FOR A SHORT TIME - THEN FAIL AGAIN UNTIL I REPEATED THE FUSE OR BATTERY CABLE REMOVAL PROCEDURE. AS TIME WENT ON THE FIX WOULD LAST LESS & LESS TIME. CURRENTLY, THE LOCKS MAY ONLY WORK FOR A DAY OR SO. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. MY WIFE WAS REALLY SCARED THE OTHER DAY WHEN SOMEONE WAS APPROACHING THE CAR AND SHE COULD NOT LOCK THE DOORS. SHE WAS IN AN UNFAMILIAR LOCATION WITH THE 4 YEAR OLD IN THE BACK SEAT. WHILE IT ACTUALLY TURNED OUT TO BE A FALSE ALARM, IT DID OPEN MY EYES. WHILE I HAVE BEEN JUST "FIXING" IT ALL THE TIME, I REALIZED THAT I CANNOT CONTROL WHEN AND WHERE IT WILL HAPPEN AND YOU CANNOT ALWAYS GET OUT AND RESET THE FUSE. THIS IS A PROGRAM (FIRMWARE) THAT IS FAILING ON A LARGE NUMBER OF VEHICLES, SEE LINKS BELOW. THIS POSES A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE VAN CANNOT BE SECURED WITHOUT MANUALLY LOCKING ALL DOORS, WHICH LEAVES THE TAILGATE. WHY SHOULD CONSUMERS HAVE TO PAY FOR A MANUFACTURER DEFECT? SOMEONE NEEDS TO PROTECT THE CONSUMER..... I AM TAKING THE VAN IN TO REQUEST IT BE REPROGRAMMED. I AM NOT GOING TO WAIT UNTIL SOMETHING BAD ACTUALLY HAPPENS FIRST. MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS ARE INOPERATIVE. VEHICLE HAS APX 45,000 MILES. I'VE NOTICED PER INTERNET PROVIDED VEHICLE COMPLAINT SITES THAT THIS IS A HIGH VOLUME PROBLEM , AND SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
POWER REAR SLIDING DOORS JUST QUIT WORKING. WIRES GET CUT BY THE TRACK THEY ARE CONTAINED IN CALLED A WIRE TRACK OR SLIDING CHANNEL. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES ON BOTH DRIVER & PASSENGER SIDES. I'M CONCERNED THIS COULD CAUSE ELECTRICAL FIRE OR SHOCK. DEALER REPLACED ONCE UNDER WARRANTY FOR PASSENGER SIDE BUT WARRANTY WAS OUT WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. HEAD LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER SINCE I BOUGHT IT. 5 MONTHS LATER ON THE FREEWAY IN THE EVENING THEY TURNED OFF. SCARY! I HAVE TAKEN IT TO 3 DEALERS THEY CAN NOT SEEM TO FIX IT. THEY HAVE NOT WORKED FOR 3 MONTHS. IT IS SUCH A PAIN. PLEASE HELP *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. SPORADICALLY, THE POWER DOOR LOCKS BECOME INOPERATIVE AND PREVENT THE CONTACT FROM LOCKING THE DOORS. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER TO HAVE IT INSPECTED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT SHATTERED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 1.5 YEARS THAT THE SIDE DOOR GLASS SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS DECEMBER 20, 2006 AND THE PASSENGER DOOR GLASS SHATTERED. BOTH TIMES WHILE DRIVING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I CALLED CHRYSLER WHO SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS AND OFFERED 2 REASONS, 1) SUDDEN CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE (NEITHER TIME WAS THERE A DRASTIC CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE) AND THE SECOND REASON GIVEN WAS POSSIBLY A SCRATCH ON THE GLASS IF I HAD SCRAPPED THEM FOR SOME REASON. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT MY VAN WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I KNEW THAT AND GLASS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ANY WAY. IT SEEMS MORE THAN A COINCIDENCE THAT 2 SEPARATE PIECES OF ORIGINAL FACTORY GLASS ON SEPARATE DOORS WOULD SHATTER IN THIS WAY. I ALWAYS USE THE AUTOMATIC OPENER AND CLOSER AND VERY RARELY IS THE DOOR MANUALLY OPENED OR CLOSED (EITHER DOORS). IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THIS VEHICLE IS PURCHASED BY MANY PEOPLE WITH MEDIUM TO LARGE FAMILIES AND CARRY CHILDREN. WHEN THE GLASS SHATTERS AND YOU NEED TO CONTINUE DRIVING UNTIL YOU CAN GET THE GLASS SECURED PEOPLE OR CHILDREN THAT MAY BE INSIDE WILL HAVE GLASS ALL OVER THEM. IN SHORT CHRYSLER REFUSED TO PAY FOR ANY REPLACEMENT GLASS OR ACKNOWLEDGE IT COULD BE AN ISSUE AND TO MY KNOWLEDGE IS NOT BEING INVESTIGATED BY CHRYSLER/DODGE FOR A POSSIBLE DESIGN FLAW EITHER OR DEFECT IN GLASS. *TR

I TOOK IT INTO MY ELECTRICAL MECHANIC BUT HE COULD NOT RUN A DIAGNOSTIC BECAUSE ONLY CHRYSLER DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS CAN READ THE DOORS. *TR
DOORS DO NOT LOCK/UNLOCK WHEN YOU PRESS THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON ON EITHER THE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM OR THE DOOR ITSELF. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHO SAYS THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THEM AND THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANYONE ELSE COMPLAINING. INTERNET IS FULL OF COMPLAINTS FROM CONSUMERS ON ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE TURN SIGNALS FAILED WHEN THEY WERE ACTIVATED. A FEW DAYS LATER, HE ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE THEM AGAIN TO INDICATE A LEFT TURN, BUT THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL ACTIVATED INSTEAD. THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 31,000. UPDATED 06/17/08. *LJ THE DEALER REPLACED THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
HEAD LIGHTS, DASH LIGHTS AND RADIO LIGHTS KEEP FLICKERING. I HAVE TOOK MY DODGE GRAND CARAVAN BACK TO A CHRYSLER/DODGE DEALERSHIP 7 OR 8 TIMES SO FAR IN LESS THAN 1 YEAR FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. BODY CONTROL MODULE, ALTERNATOR AND SEVERAL OTHER ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. SOMETIMES IT IS SO SEVERE THAT THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS COMPLETELY GO OUT AND COME BACK ON. I DRIVE A LOT OF HIGHWAY MILES 1/3 OF IT IN THE DARK. IT IS VERY UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE WITHOUT LIGHTS, BUT I HAVE NO OTHER OPTION IF I WANT TO REMAIN EMPLOYED. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT I CAN DO ABOUT THIS. *TR
PURCHASE OF USED DODGE GRAND CARAVAN & THEN FOUND OUT 1 WEEK LATER THAT THE RACK AND PINION AREA LEAKS & THE ENTIRE RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. IT HAS POWER DOOR LOCKS. THE LOCKS WILL NOT OPERATE FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE OR FROM THE KEYCHAIN. NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THIS VEHICLE MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT WITH TWO YOUNG CHILDREN. THE SAFETY FEATURE THAT LOCKS THE DOORS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS GOING OVER 18 MPH IS ALSO NOT WORKING. THE ONLY DOORS THAT HAS KEY UNLOCK ARE THE DRIVER DOOR AND THE REAR DOOR. I HAVE FOUND A WEBSITE THAT HAS MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED. I BOUGHT A 2005 DODGE CARAVAN SXT IN OCTOBER OF 2007 WITH 50,000 MILES ON IT. THE NEXT WEEK THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED COMING ON AT RANDOM WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS (< 20) AND THEN WOULD GO OUT. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE IT BECAUSE IT WAS OCCURRING ON A RANDOM BASIS. THE LIGHT STOPPED COMING ON A FEW WEEKS LATER AND DID NOT COME ON AGAIN UNTIL LAST WEEK. NOW IT IS COMING ON FREQUENTLY AND STAYING ON AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. COINCIDENTALLY, THE WEATHER WARMED FROM THE 40'S TO THE UPPER 70'S JUST BEFORE THE LIGHT STARTED COMING ON AGAIN. I CHECKED THE DODGE WEBSITE FOR RECALLS BUT IT SHOWED NO OUTSTANDING RECALLS FOR MY VIN. *TR
DODGE GRAND CARAVAN 2005, DOOR LOCKS NOT WORKING. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. I HAVE 15,000 MILES AND HAVE READ THAT YOU PULL THE FUSE AND PUT IT BACK IN. THIS WORKS FOR A SHORT TIME. *TR
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS DON'T WORK. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THEM TO WORK IS TO REMOVE THE 20AMP IOD FUSE FOR 10 SEC. DODGE REFUSES TO OWN UP TO THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY DON'T MIND TAKING YOUR MONEY FOR A TEMPORARY FIX. BY REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE IOD FUSE THE TEMP FIX LAST FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS IN THE SUMMER AND 1 DAY IN THE WINTER. OUR PROBLEM STARTED IN THE SPRING OF 2008 UNTIL NOW. *TR
CRACKS IN ROOF UNDER PLASTIC MOLDING. DEALER REFUSED TO ASSIST WITH REPAIRS, OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
POWER DOOR LOCK FAILURE - 6TH OCCURRENCE. VEHICLE DOOR LOCK SWITCHES / REMOTE UNIT FAIL TO OPERATE DOOR LOCKS. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE THIS YEAR. SAFETY ISSUE AS CHRYSLER OUTFITTED VEHICLE WITH ONLY A DRIVERS SIDE KEY-OPERATED DOOR LOCK. ALL OTHER LOCKS ARE CONTROLLED ELECTRONICALLY. SAFETY CONCERN IS AT TIME OF VEHICLE CRASH, DOORS MUST BE MANUALLY UNLOCKED. CHILDREN IN THE BACK MAY NOT KNOW HOW TO UNLOCK THE CAR MANUALLY SINCE CHILDREN ARE USED TO AUTOMATIC CONTROLS. CALLED CHRYSLER ON 4/7/08. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLES, OR THAT SAFETY IS SOMEHOW IMPACTED BY THIS FAILURE. *TR

MY VEHICLE DID NOT MEET THE "DATE," IT HAS THE SAME ISSUE/DEFECT THEY ARE IGNORING, COVERED PART BUT NOT LABOR. SHOULD RECALL AND INSPECT ALL VEHICLES. *TR

2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. BOUGHT NEW. AROUND 2008, AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE POWER DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING, WHETHER YOU USED THE BUTTON ON THE DOOR OR THE BUTTON ON THE REMOTE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND YEAR VAN. IF YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FOR A MINUTE AND RECONNECT IT, THE DOOR LOCKS WILL WORK AGAIN, MAYBE FOR AN HOUR OR FOR A WEEK BEFORE THEY STOP WORKING AGAIN, IT IS ALWAYS RANDOM AMOUNT OF TIME BEFORE IT QUITS AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD CHARGE TO ATTEMPT TO FIX IT SINCE IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY RECALL. *TR
TOLD THAT POWER STEERING RACK HAS FAILED AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT, ALONG WITH PS PUMP. 50,800 MILES ON VEHICLE. $1500 ESTIMATE, NOT COVERED UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, AND CAN'T BE DONE ANYWAY DUE TO 10,000 PIECE BACKLOG ON THE PARTS NEEDED! THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I SEE ON THIS SITE FOR THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND IT'S SIBLINGS (CHRYSLER T&C, AND NEIGHBORING MODEL YEARS), AND THE AFORE MENTIONED BACKLOG. WHY IS THIS PROBLEM NOT BEING INVESTIGATED AND WHY IS IT NOT SUBJECT TO RECALL? IT IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE DESIGN, MANY REPORTS ON THIS SITE FOR FAILURES AT RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE. THE AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT WENT ON AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US THEY WOULD RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON IT FOR $89.00. AFTER DOING SO, THEY SAID THAT VEHICLE HAS 2 AIRBAG SENSORS THAT HAVE AN INTERNAL SHORT. THEY SAID THE PARTS WOULD BE $223.52 AND IT WOULD TAKE 2-3 DAYS TO ORDER THEM. *TR

I BOUGHT A 2005 GRAND CARAVAN IN MAY 2005. THE RACK AND PINION RACK COMPLETELY FAILED IN DECEMBER 2005 AT 9870 MILES. IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. MY VAN BEGIN MAKING THE SAME NOISES AND LOSING POWER STEERING FLUID. WHEN I HAD IT CHECKED AT THE DEALERSHIP TODAY, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VAN WAS LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID AND THAT THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FROM RESEARCHING ONLINE I SEE THAT I AM NOT ALONE. THIS IS HAPPENING FREQUENTLY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION, BEFORE THE DEFECT RESULTS IN A FATALITY. ON OR AROUND FEB 26 I DISCOVERED THAT THE AUTO DOOR LOCKS WERE NOT WORKING NOR WAS I ABLE TO UNLOCK OR LOCK MY DOORS FROM THE INSIDE WITH THE INSIDE LOCK SWITCH. I CALLED AROUND TO A FEW OTHER CAR REPAIR SHOPS AND THEY ALL SAID ARE YOU SURE THAT IS THE PROBLEM, THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A VEHICLE NEEDING THAT REPLACED THAT EARLY. POWER DOOR LOCK FAILURE - 5TH OCCURRENCE. JUST TOOK VEHICLE TO CAR WASH AND WITHIN 1 HOUR THE LOCKS STOPPED RESPONDING TO REMOTE AND DOOR SWITCHES. CAR HAS EXHIBITED POWER DOOR LOCK FAILURE TWICE EACH YEAR SINCE PURCHASED BY CURRENT OWNER. DEALERS HAVE REPROGRAMMED/REPLACED BCM A COUPLE OF TIMES. ON THIS OCCASION, THE DEALER DID NOT PROVIDE INFORMATION ON HOW THE LOCKS WERE RESET OTHER THAN TO SAY THE LOCKS WERE RESET. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW PROCEDURE TO SAVE ON FURTHER TRIPS TO DEALER. I HAD A FLAT TIRE ON MY 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AND WAS UNABLE TO GET ACCESS TO THE SPARE TIRE, STORED UNDER THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THE SYSTEM TO LOWER THE SPARE TIRE ONLY LOWERED IT A FEW INCHES AND THEN THE PIECE THAT YOU TURN WITH THE HANDLE ASSEMBLY ONLY WOULD JERK AROUND IF YOU TURNED THE HANDLES EXTREMELY HARD. I TRIED DOING ABOUT 30 TURNS THOUGH TO NO EFFECT. THE MECHANISM IN THE FLOOR WAS TURNING WITH ALOT OF EFFORT BUT THE TIRE WAS NOT BEING LOWERED. THIS WAS ON A COLD SNOWY DAY AND I WAS ON A SIDE ROAD WITH LITTLE ROOM TO LAY DOWN ON THE PAVEMENT AND REACH UNDER TRYING TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. I SPENT 3 HOURS WAITING FOR AAA AND THEN GAVE UP AND TOOK THE DAMAGED TIRE TO A WALMART LEAVING MY WIFE IN THE CAR ON THE JACK - MY ONLY CHOICE. WHILE I WAS GETTING THE TIRE PATCHED, WHICH WAS LUCKY, AAA ARRIVED AND REFUSED TO WORK ON THE SITUATION AS THEY SAID IT MIGHT END UP WITH EQUIPMENT DRAGGING UNDERNEATH THE CAR. SO IF THERE HAD NOT BEEN A TIRE CENTER NEARBY WE WOULD HAVE BEEN REALLY STUCK WITH NO WAY TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. MY MECHANIC TELLS ME THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN - THERE WAS ICE ALL OVER THE RELEASE MECHANISM AND IT WAS BROKEN. HE SAID HE SEES THIS ALOT ON FAIRLY NEW CARS LIKE MINE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. I DON'T THINK I SHOULD PAY FOR THE EXPENSIVE REPAIR, WHICH I WILL HAVE TO DO TO SELL THE CAR. I TRAVEL IN REMOTE NORTHERN PARTS OF NEW ENGLAND AND NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCESS MY SPARE COULD COST ME MY LIFE. I AM NOW STORING THE SPARE DANGEROUSLY IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE FIXED FOR FREE, BUT IF ITS GOING TO WEAR OUT AGAIN, I HESITATE TO HAVE THE SPARE DOWN THERE. THIS IS A HORRIBLE, DANGEROUS DESIGN AND I THINK THESE CARS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND A DIFFERENT SYSTEM DEVELOPED. TOOK MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL AND FILTER REPLACEMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A LEAK RACK AND PINION STEERING ASSEMBLY. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, MY HEADLIGHTS WON'T TURN ON WHEN I START MY VAN. IF I TURN THEM OFF AND ON A FEW TIMES, THEY WILL EVENTUALLY TURN ON.
