SINCE PURCHASING IN 2004. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE BACK THE VAN NUMEROUS TIMES TO COMPLAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT NOISES WHILE DRIVING IN THE STEERING BRAKES AND FRONT RIGHT WHEEL BASE AREA. BRAKES POPPING AND SCRUBBING, WHEEL BASE MAKES A SCRUBBING/CRACKING NOISES, AND THERE WAS A WHINING NOISE WHILE SLOWING AT STOPS AND IN PARKING LOTS. THEY HAVE REPLACED A MAP LIGHT. MY SLIDING DOORS HAVE STOPPED WORKING ONCE BUT THE PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN TO TAKE TO THE DEALER. AT A RED LIGHT WHEN IT TURNED GREEN I WENT TO GO AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF WOULD NOT RESTART IMMEDIATELY. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME AND NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS ON A HILL AND ABLE TO ROLL TO THE SIDE AND PUT THE VAN BACK IN PARK TO RESTART. 08/11/05 TOOK TO DEALER SHIP AND THEY PERFORMED A COMPUTER FLASH UPDATE AND LISTED A LABEL AUT AND LABEL GEN PART. HERE ARE THE SERVICE DATES WHEN I TOOK IN IT EACH TIME TO COMPLAIN ABOUT STEERING AND DRIVING NOISES. 08/04/05 TOOK TO DEALER ORDERED PARTS SERVICED ON 08/11/05 REPLACED POWER STEERING RESERVOIR. 11/17/05 REPLACED RACK AND PINION. 08/16/06 TOOK IN BRAKES STARTING MAKING NOISES TOLD WE HAD 20% LEFT AT 16,812 MILES THEY TOLD US TO REPLACE THE BRAKES. 08/16/06 ALSO HAD THEM LOOK AT THE SAME NOISE AS BEFORE AND THEY LUBED/GREASED STRUT DUST COVERS. 11/08/06 TOOK BACK FOR SAME NOISES AND THEY REPLACED THE SWAY BAR LINKS FOUND MY STEERING FLUID LOW, REPLACED FLUID AND STATED THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY CRACKS/LEAKS. I AM STILL HEARING NOISES COME FROM THE RIGHT FRONT WHEELBASE. THE POWER STEERING FLUID HAS FIXED THE WHINING NOISES AS OF TODAY. THE BRAKES ARE NOT POPPING. THEY SAID THE SWAY BAR LINKS FIXED THE POPPING. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION. IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED TWICE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME, BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 10,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100.
ON SAT, 07-30-2005, MY THREE CHILDREN(AGES 9, 7, 5) EACH RECEIVED 1ST & 2ND DEGREE BURNS ON THEIR LEGS (AND WENT TO THE LOCAL EMERGENCY ROOM) WHILE REACHING UNDER OUR 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN W/ STO & GO SEATING. APPARENTLY THE EXHAUST PIPE RUNS JUST BELOW THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR. *JB
MY THREE YOUNG CHILDREN WERE BURNT ON THE EXHAUST PIPE OF OUR 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN W/STO & GO SEATS. WHILE REACHING THEIR LEG UNDER THE VAN, TO RETRIEVE A QUARTER THEY DROPPED, THEY EACH RECEIVED 1ST & 2ND DEGREE BURNS ON THEIR LEGS. THE COIN WAS ONLY A FEW INCHES UNDER THE VAN; YOU COULD SEE IT BY STANDING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. WHEN STANDING ALONG THE PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE YOU CAN PLAINLY SEE THE EXHAUST PIPE JUST SEVERAL INCHES UNDER THE SLIDING SIDE DOOR. *NM
AT 500 MILES THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED LEADING TO LOSS OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, AC, AND POWER SLIDING DOORS.
WE RENTED A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH THE "STOW AND GO" SEATS. THE SEAT BACK FOR THE SECOND ROW SEATS RETURNS TO THE DOWN POSITION UNDER CONSIDERABLE SPRING PRESSURE. ON THREE OCCASIONS, MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY WERE STRUCK IN THE FACE BY THE HEADREST WHEN THE SEAT BACK WAS RELEASED BY RAISING THE LEVER ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE SEAT. IN ONE CASE, MY DAUGHTER WAS STRUCK IN THE JAW WHEN SHE BENT OVER TO RELEASE THE SEAT BACK. I WAS STRUCK IN THE FACE TWICE: ONCE ON THE LEFT SIDE AND ONCE ON THE RIGHT SIDE. IN BOTH CASES MY GLASSES WERE TORN FROM MY FACE. EVEN THOUGH THESE WERE ANSI Z87 SAFETY GLASSES, THEY WERE THROWN A CONSIDERABLE DISTANCE AND DAMAGED BY THE IMPACT. BEING RENTERS OF THE VEHICLE, WE WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH POTENTIAL PROBLEMS AND HAD NOT BEEN ADVISED BY THE RENTAL AGENCY TO WATCH OUT FOR THE SEATS. FOR MYSELF, I CONSIDER THE SPRING LOADING TO BE AN UNFORTUNATE DESIGN CHOICE. THE SEAT BACK APPEARS TO PACK A CONSIDERABLE PUNCH.
THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR OR SO! *TR
2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN DEVELOPED PROBLEMS WITH THE HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONER SYSTEM.***NO ANSWER REQUIRED***. *MR WHILE DRIVING THE A/C LINES BLEW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE AIR AND HEAT. THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE FIXED BECAUSE THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED, AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO TURN WHEN THE CONTACT DROVE OVER A PUDDLE OF WATER. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING OVER A PERIOD OF NINE YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE SERPENTINE BELT AND IDLER PULLEY HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS STUCK TOGETHER DURING RAIN CAUSING VISIBILITY PROBLEMS. I HAD TO PULL OF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND MANUALLY SEPARATE THE WIPERS. HAD THIS HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH HEAVY RAIN, I WOULD HAVE BEEN BLINDED. *TR
SLIDING DOORS OPENING ON OWN, NOT UNLOCKING WITH REMOTE OR BY INSIDE BUTTONS, CONSTANT LOUD NOISE. DOORS NOT OPENING WITH REMOTE OR BY INSIDE BUTTONS, MUSTY SMELL. *AK
DT: CONTACT STATES WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PUSHED IT GOES TO THE FLOOR, BRAKING QUICKLY COULD NOT BE DONE IF NEEDED. EVENTUALLY, THE PRESSURE RECONSTITUTES, AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS NORMAL. THE SERVICE DEALER REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, BUT THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. *AK
PURCHASED A 2005 DOGE GRAND CARAVAN FROM BOB CALDWELL DODGE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. A LITTLE OVER A MONTH OF HAVING THE VEHICLE THE AIR CONDITIONING JUST STOP PUTTING OUT COOL AIR AND WE NOTICEDS SOME SPOTS OF SOMETHING LEAKING IN THE DRIVE WAY. WE TOOK THE VEHICHLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED AND THEY INDICATED THAT A STONE OR ROCK HAD WENT THROUGH THE AIR CONDITIONER'S COMPRESSOR. THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND IT WOULD BE $800+ TO FIX IT. THEY INDICATED ALSO THAT WE WEREN'T THE FIRST AND THAT BECAUSE OF THE DESIGN AND THE PLACEMENT OF THE COMPRESSOR THAT WE WON'T BE THE LAST AND EVEN IF WE FIX IT, IT WILL PROBABLY HAPPEN AGAIN. WE CALLED DODGE DIRECTLY AND THEY SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND AGREED THAT THIS WAS NOT SOMETHING THAT THEY WOULD CONSIDERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY AND DENIED TO COVER THE PAYMENT OF THE SERVICES. WE CALLED AROUND LOCALLY TO OTHER DEALERSHIPS AND THERE WAS A TOTAL OF 5 IN LESS THEN ONE WEEK AND ALL AGREE THAT IS WAS SOME SORT OF DESIGN/PLACEMENT FLAW AND THAT THIS WOULD CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. WE COULD ATTACH A SCREEN PROTECTION SOMEHOW TO THE FRONT TO PROTECT THE COMPRESSOR BUT STILL NO GUARENTEES.
WE JUST PURCHASED A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN YESTERDAY AND DID NOT DISCOVER UNTIL WE GOT HOME THAT THE POWER LOCKS DO NOT WORK. WE FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY WITH OUR TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. IT IS UNSETTLING TO THINK THAT SOMEONE DANGEROUS COULD ATTEMPT JUMP INTO THE VAN AT ANY TIME THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND NOT BE ABLE TO QUICKLY HIT THE BUTTON AND PROTECT OUR FAMILY. IT IS ALSO EASIER TO FORGET TO LOCK ALL THE DOORS AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE, WHICH MAKES US MORE PRONE TO THEFT. WE WOULD REALLY, BE GRATEFUL FOR THIS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL. MY 2005 DODGE CARAVAN IS 9 MONTHS OLD AND ONE DAY I'M DRIVING AND MY ENGINE STARTS MAKING A TAPPING NOISEAND THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON. THE NEXT DAY (MONDAY) I TAKE IT TO STAFFORD DODGE DEALER (ROBERT STOCKING). THEY TELL ME I HAVE LESS THAN 1 QT OF OIL IN MY CAR SO I NEED TO HAVE MY ENGINE BLOCK REPLACED. I INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP THAT I HAD MY OIL CHANGED 1 MONTH AGO BY JIFFY LUBE, AND ALSO HAD CHECKED MY OIL 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE INCEDENT AND MY OIL WAS AT THE MAX LINE. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED DAIMLER CHRYSLER (STEVE SHOOF) AND INFORMED THEM ON WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND CHYRSLER DENIED THE CLAIM, THEREFORE, I WAS STUCK PAYING $5,070 PLUS $500 FOR A RENTAL CAR FOR TWO WEEKS WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED. ACTUALLY I DID FIND OUT WHEN I WENT TO PAY FOR MY CAR A NOTE WAS ON ONE OF THE MECHANICS RECEIPTS SAYING THAT THE CAR HAD THE WRONG DIPSTICK INSTALLED IN MY CAR; WHICH PROBABLY LEAD TO THE OIL AERATION. I WENT BACK TO LOOK AT MY JIFFY LUBE RECEIPTS AND ONE OF THE NOTES IN 10 NOV 04 STATED THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS HIGH WHEN THEY TRIED TO CHANGE MY OIL FOR THE FIRST TIME AND THOUGHT POSSIBLY THAT I MAY HAVE THE WRONG DIPSTICK. THE PERSONNEL AT JIFFY LUBE NEVER TOLD ME DIRECTLY THAT I MAY HAVE HAD THE WRONG DIPSTICK THEY ONLY NOTED IT ON THE RECEIPT. IF I HAD BEEN TOLD I WOULD HAVE WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DODGE DEALER. I'M ASSUMING WITH ALL THE TROUBLE JIFFY LUBE HAD TRYING TO READ MY DIPSTICK WHEN IN ALL ACTUALITY THE DIPSTICK WAS 6 INCHES TOO LONG (PER THE DODGE MAINTENANCE MANAGER) THEREFORE IT LEAD TO OIL AERATION AND LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE. THE MAINTENACE MANAGER(JOHN VERNE) AT THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME THE DIPSTICK THAT WAS REMOVED FROM MY CAR. MAYBE YOU CAN ASSIST ME IN GETTING THIS MATTER RESOLVED. I HAVE 4 CHILDREN TO SUPPORT AND I HAD TO TAKE THE $5,070 OUT OF MY CHECKING ACCOUNT SO I COULD HAVE A CAR TO DRIVE TO GET TO WORK.
MY DODGE GRAND CARAVAN 2005 WAS BOUGHT USED AT BONIFACE-HIERS AT MERRITT ISLAND FLORIDA IN MARCH 2005. I'VE HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS SINCE. THE DEALERS REPAIR SHOP FOREMAN HAD SOMEONE LOOK AT IT IN APRIL 2005: SAID HE DID ME A FAVOR; THERE IS NO WARRANTY. BRAKES SHAKE AND ABS DOESN'T WORK. BRAKES ALSO LOCK. DANGEROUS. I TRAVELED TO MAINE FOR THE SUMMER. MANY CLOSE CALLS. ON 11-20-05, AFTER BEING TOLD VERBALLY THAT BRAKES ARE NOT WARRANTY ITEM, I SENT A COMPLAINT CARD. TODAY, I'M GOING TO BONIFACE-HIERS[MONDAY] AND A DAIMLER-CHRYSLER REP IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK INTO THE DEFECTS. *JB

WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED, THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURES ARE CAUSED BY "FAULTY" DRIVING. CHRYSLER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE AIR CONDITIONER MALFUNCTIONED THREE TIMES AND WAS REPAIRED. EVERY SEASON THE AIR CONDITIONER MALFUNCTIONS. THE REAR HOSES WERE REPLACED TWICE ALONG WITH THE COMPRESSOR. THE POWER LOCKS ON ALL OF THE DOORS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE PASSENGERS WERE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR ALTHOUGH THE DOOR LOCKS WERE IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION. THE PASSENGER FRONT WINDOWS STARTED MAKING A CLANGING NOISE WHEN IT WAS OPENED AND THAT WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 9,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000.
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON. 9000 MILES EST. DEALER TOOK THREE WEEKS GETTING PART. WOULD NOT GIVE LOANER CAR BECAUSE THE AIR BAG MAY OR MAY NOT WORK IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. LIGHT HAS COME BACK ON A SECOND TIME.*AK PHONE INTERVIEW UPDATE (OCT 20, 2005): THE PASSENGER SIDE WEIGHT INDICATOR SENSOR WAS FAULTY.
THE ELECTRONIC CONTROLS FOR THE OUTSIDE MIRRORS ARE NOT LIT MAKING THEM IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND AT NIGHT. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH A PASSING CAR IN THE OTHER LANE OR HAVING A CAR CLOSE BEHIND, THEIR HEADLAMPS SHINE INTO THE DRIVERS EYES. THE DRIVER MUST USE HIS/HER LEFT HAND TO BLOCK THE MIRROR OR ADJUST THE MIRROR SO HEADLAMPS REFLECT AT A DIFFERENT ANGLE. SINCE THE MIRROR CONTROLS ARE NOT LIT, NOR IS ANYTHING IN THAT AREA, IT IS DISTRACTING TO THE DRIVER TO FUMBLE AROUND FEELING FOR THE CONTROLS. THIS DISTRACTION CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO CROSS THE CENTER LINE INTO THE PASSING VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THESE CONTROLS ARE NOT INTENDED TO BE LIT.*AK
VEHICLE (2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN) WAS HIT FROM BEHIND AND RAN INTO TREES, DEPLOYING AIRBAGS. GLOVE BOX DOOR DROPPED OPEN AND ALL THE WAY DOWN (PAST THE NORMAL OPEN STATE), SEVERELY INJURING THE LEFT LEG OF FRONT PASSENGER.
WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED, AND I PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE SPEED OF MY CAR WILL DROP 3-5 MPH BELOW THE PRESET SPEED AFTER I HAVE PASSED THE VEHICLE, AND THEN WILL INCREASE TO THE PRESET SPEED. I HAVE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD TODAY THAT THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT FEELS REPAIRS ARE NOT NECESSARY. *JB
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH ELECTRICAL ODOR CONSTANTLY APPEARING TO BE BURNING, AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER SHOP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS.*AK PHONE INTERVIEW UPDATE (OCT 24, 2005): THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH AIR BAG FRONTAL IMPACT SENSORS (PART # 4686957AC) ONE AT A TIME. HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STILL COMES ON DURING WET WEATHER CONDITIONS.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT ON MY 2005 GRAND CARAVAN WENT ON THIS PAST SPRING. WE TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE MANUAL STATED THAT THE LIGHT COULD COME ON IF THERE WAS A SUDDEN CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE AND THAT IS WHAT WE ATTRIBUTED THE PROBLEM TOO BUT I JUST WANTED TO REPORT IT SINCE I HEARD IT WAS BEING INVESTIGATED. *JB
WE OWN A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH NO AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR. AFTER PURCHASING IT IN NOV 2004 AND UPON PERIODIC OPERATION OF THE DOOR, MY BACK STARTED GETTING SORE AND PAINFUL. ONE DAY IN FEB OF 2005 AFTER CLOSING THE BACK DOOR MANUALLY WITHIN 2 DAYS I REACHED OVER FOR AN APPLE THAT FELL ON THE FLOOR AND FELL TO THE FLOOR IN TERRIBLE PAIN AND HAD TO BE RUSHED TO THE DOCTOR. I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS DAY AND NOW HAVE PROTRUDING DISKS IN MY LOWER BACK. I HAVE NEVER HAD LOW BACK PROBLEMS AND NOW SCIATICA BEFORE FEB 2005. I AM GETTING TIRED OF DOCTORS AND CHIROPRACTORS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. WHAT CAN I DO? *JB
WHEN SLOWLY PULLING INTO A PARKING PLACE, VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED (LEAVING TIRE MARKS ON PAVEMENT) CAUSING IT TO JUMP ONTO A SIDEWALK AND THROUGH LANDSCAPING. THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO REST AGAINST A BUILDING. BRAKING WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE.*AK
BRAND NEW VEHICLE WITH 321 MILES, 2 MAJOR MANUFACTURER DEFECTS. #1. REAR WINDOW SEAL LEAK . #2 MAJOR INTERNAL ENGINE DEFECT (LIFTERS NEED TO BE REPLACED). *NM
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE SENOR OR THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL DEVICE WAS FAULTY. *BF THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE PART IN STOCK TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *NM
ELECTRICAL COMPONENT FAILURE CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD. FRONT BLOWER MOTOR RESISTER BLOCK FAILED IN A 2005 GRAND CARAVAN DRIVEN ONLY 2350 MILES. THIS VEHICLE IS PRONE TO FOGGING IN DAMP CONDITIONS (RAIN/SNOW/FOG, ETC). WITHOUT A FUNCTIONING BLOWER, THE WINDSHIELD AND SIDE WINDOWS FOG UP ALWAYS. THE DISTANCE FROM DRIVER TO WINDSHIELD IS TOO LONG TO BE ABLE TO SAFELY CLEAR THE FOG CONDITIONS WITH A CLOTH WHILE DRIVING. THE REDUCED VISIBILITY CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD. VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN IN DAMP/WET CONDITIONS. *JB
FROM THE DAY I DROVE THIS BRAND NEW VEHICLE OFF OF THE DEALERS LOT I BEGAN COMPLAINING ABOUT A NOISE WHEN I TURNED RIGHT. I BROUGHT IT IN SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE NOISE SO ALL WAS FINE. EVENTUALLY IT GOT SO BAD THAT THE FRONT END WAS BOUNCING. THEY FINALLY DETERMINED AFTER 22 MONTHS THAT IT WAS A BAD SWAY BAR BUSHING THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR

2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT INTERMITTENTLY SHUTS OFF/ STALLS AND POWER CUTS OUT WHILE DRIVING, PARKING, STOPPING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. WE'VE BEEN EXTREMELY FORTUNATE THAT WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE THE PROBLEM CAN OCCUR WHILE DOING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY OR 30 MPH ON LOCAL STREETS. *AK WE'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM SINCE A MONTH INTO OWNING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURED 9 TIMES IN THE LAST 2.5 YEARS. WE'VE BROUGHT THE VAN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT, YET THEY ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT (LAST MONTH, FEB 2007) WHERE WE EXPERIENCED STALLING AND LOSS OF POWER IN THE VAN, THE DEALER HAD A CO-PILOT DIAGNOSTICS DEVICE SETUP IN THE VAN AND IT DIDN'T GET ANY READINGS WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURED BECAUSE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN (WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS). THE DEALER HAS SINCE ASKED US TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VAN WITH THE CO-PILOT IN IT AND "PRESS THE BUTTON" IF WE THINK THE PROBLEM IS GOING TO OCCUR. SINCE WE SEEM TO KNOW ABOUT AS MUCH AS THE DEALER REGARDING WHAT CAUSES THIS ISSUE TO OCCUR.... WE'RE BASICALLY PUTTING OURSELVES AT RISK ANYTIME WE DRIVE THE VEHICLE.
CONSUMER NOTICED HAIRLINE CRACKS ON ALL FOUR SIDES OF THE PILLARS LOCATED ON THE VEHICLE'S ROOF. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 20 MP APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND ABS LOCKED THE WHEELS, CAUSING CONSUMER'S VEHICLE TO REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE.*AK
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED BOTH DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE DOORS UNEXPECTEDLY OPENED WHILE USING THE REMOTE CONTROL TO OPEN AND CLOSE DOORS OR MANUALLY. PROBLEM OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE INSPECTED WITHIN THE WEEK FOR THIS PROBLEM. *AK
THE LIGHTS WILL RANDOMLY COME ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. SOMETIMES YOU ARE UNABLE TO TURN HEAD LIGHTS ON. I HAVE REPLACED THE LIGHTS SWITCH AND THE DEALER DOES NOT SEEM TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE LAST PROBLEM OCCURRED ON 8/26/2004. *TR
BRIDGESTONE/ FIRESTONE TIRES EXPERIENCED SEAM FAILURE. *BF THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES BE REPLACED AS GOOD FAITH DUE TO THE PRIOR HISTORY OF THE BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE SEAM FAILURES. *SC THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A TIRE FAILURE 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. *JB
AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO TWO SEPARATE DEALERS ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAGS MAY NOT OPERATE IN A VEHICLE CRASH OR THE AIR BAGS MAY DEPLOY INADVERTENTLY.*AK
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS IN DRIVE AND ONE OCCASION IN REVERSE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES TO COME TO A STOP. DEALER WAS CONTACTED.*AK
ON 6/13/04 WE TEST DROVE A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH THE STOW AND GO SEATS. THE BACK SEAT HAS A 60/40 SPLIT AND THE 40 SECTION WAS DOWN WHEN WE LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE ON THE LOT. WE PULLED THE SEAT UP FOR MY FOUR YEAR OLD TO SIT IN WITH HIS BOOSTER. AS MY HUSBAND ACCELERATED TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY THAT SECTION OF THE SEAT FLIPPED BACKWARDS. THE SALES REP. UNBELTED MY SON AND PULLED THE SEAT UPRIGHT AGAIN. HE HAD TO POUND ON THE LEG OF THE SEAT TO GET IT INTO PROPER POSITION. DODGE NEEDS TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS OR AT LEAST WARN CUSTOMERS!*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, IT BEGAN TO SHIFT OUT OF GEAR. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER OVER TEN TIMES, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE ISSUE OCCURRED WHENEVER THERE WAS AN INCLINE IN THE ROAD. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED EXTREME CONCERN FOR THE DEFECT AND THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED HER THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR FREE. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS LESS THAN 100. UPDATED 05/13/08 *BF THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR, T WENT FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. THERE WAS ALSO A RATTLING NOISE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE. IT TOOK SEVERAL TRIES TO GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF REVERSE. THE RATTLING NOISE WAS DUE TO THE SWAY BAR BEING BROKEN. UPDATED 05/13/08
ELECTRIC LOCKS FAIL. AFTER R&R A FUSE THE LOCKS WOULD WORK FOR A PERIOD OF TIME THEN FAIL AGAIN. REPEAT. *TR
STEERING COLUMN SWITCH CONTROLLING TURN SIGNALS, WINDSHIELD WIPERS. INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF WIPERS, WASHER, TURN SIGNALS AND TURN SIGNAL REVERSAL (INDICATE TURN RIGHT SIGNAL FOR LEFT ACTUATES) TO CORRECT ON A SHORT TERM OPERATING THE TILT FUNCTION CORRECTS FAILURE TEMPORARILY. THIS EVENT OCCURS REGULARLY AT LEAST EVERY OTHER TIME VEHICLE IS USED. DEALER CAN NOT REPLICATE FAILURE. I AM A AUTOMOTIVE QUALITY ENGINEER TRAINED IN ROOT CAUSE AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS THIS FAILURE IN MY OPINION IS DUE TO THE HARNESS CONNECTION EITHER WIRE PULL OUT OR CONNECTOR FAILURE. I HAVE HAD WIPERS FAIL DURING HEAVY RAIN DRIVING. TURN SIGNALS INDICATING INCORRECT DIRECTION NEARLY CAUSING A REAR END COLLISION AND WASHER NOT OPERATE WHILE DRIVING IN SALT LADEN CONDITIONS. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MANY OWNERS WHO INDICATE THIS IS AN ISSUE IN THEIR CARAVAN AS WELL. *TR
2005 GRAND CARAVAN INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ON THE HEAD LIGHT CLUSTER, CRUISE CONTROL, DRIVER SIDE WINDOWS AND LOCKS DID NOT WORK. * TS ***NAR*** THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED WITH NO LIGHTS. *JB
2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN CUSTOMER STATES THAT AFTER 60 MPH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STARTS TO STICK**CC THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT A NEW AIR FILTER WAS NEEDED. ALSO, THE CAUSE WAS THAT THE THROTTLE HOUSING WHERE THE BUTTERFLY IS WAS DIRTY AND THAT AT HIGH SPEED THE METAL HEATED UP AND EXPANDED AND THE CARBON AROUND THE BUTTERFLY WOULD CAUSE IT TO STICK. THE CONSUMER WAS ALSO TOLD THAT CARBON WAS IN THE ENGINE AND IT NEEDED TO BE CLEANED ALONG WITH THE FUEL INJECTORS. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD TO EXPECT THE PROBLEM TO HAPPEN AGAIN. *JB
