TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE OIL PRESSURE AND AN UNKNOWN WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. ON NOVEMBER 9, 2019, WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS LOSING SPEED, BUT WAS ABLE TO BE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE POLICE DUE TO HER DISABLED HUSBAND BEING IN THE COLD FOR OVER TWO HOURS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. HE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL, BUT THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR MEDICAL ATTENTION NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND THEN TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK IN THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO PEPBOYS TWICE BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THE GAS GAUGE WAS WORKING, THE VEHICLE WOULD CLICK THE GAS NOZZLE OFF AND WOULD NOT ACCEPT FUELING. PEPBOYS REPLACED THE IN-TANK PUMP AS A REMEDY TWICE. DODGE/CHRYSLER SAID IT WAS THE BREATHER TUBE. WHO'S RIGHT?

AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS ENGINE STALLED APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE FROM THE GAS STATION. HAD TO COAST TO SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT POWER STEERING. PLACED ENGINE IN PARK, TURNED OF KEY AND RESTARTED. ENGINE RAN ROUGH HAD TO DEPRESS ACCELERATOR FOR ADDITIONAL GAS. ONCE RESTARTED ENGINE RAN FINE FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP. THIS SAME PROBLEM ALSO OCCURRED IN EARLY JANUARY 1/03/2015 AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS. NOT ONLY IS THIS AN INCONVENIENCE, BUT VERY DANGEROUS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC SCENARIOS. *TR

AFTER FILLING THE TANK WITH GAS, THE VAN ENGINE RUNS ROUGH AND THEN STALLS OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE PAST THREE TO FOUR YEARS. WHEN IT HAPPENED ON TUES, OCTOBER 7, 2014, I HAD JUST PULLED OUT OF THE GAS STATION AND WAS GETTING READY TO CROSS A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN THE CAR STALLED. I HAD TO QUICKLY PUT IT IN TO PARK AND RESTART. SCARED ME TO DEATH. AGAIN, THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST FIFTY TIMES TO ME. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CAN NEVER GET THE PROBLEM TO HAPPEN FOR THEM WHICH MAKES SENSE BECAUSE IT IS ONLY GOING TO HAPPEN AFTER REFUELING. *TR

WHEN THE FUELING NOZZLE TRIPS FOR THE FIRST TIME, I DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONTINUE ADDING MORE FUEL AND POSSIBLY OVERFILLING THE FUEL TANK. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO RESTART SEVERAL TIMES, THE ENGINE WILL MISFIRE FOR ABOUT 30 TO 45 SECONDS, THEN THE ENGINE WILL SMOOTH OUT AND RUN FINE UNTIL THE NEXT REFUELING. The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased in 2010, the vehicle was missing the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. In addition, the vehicle idled roughly, jerked and stalled while driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, where it was diagnosed with power train failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the vehicle was missing the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. The contact was provided DTCs: P0403 and P0404. The vehicle was not repaired. In 2019, the vehicle was taken to a tire business and the EGR valve was installed on the vehicle. The failure was progressively worsened, and the vehicle was no longer being driven. Upon further investigation, the contact found information on various auto websites indicating that the vehicle was manufactured in Canada and imported to the United States. The contact was the second owner. The contact found information on other auto websites that stated that the EGR valve was removed from the vehicle, and it was removed in stages. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.
AFTER FUELING, THE VEHICLE WITH SURGE AND OFTEN STALL WITH NEED FOR RESTART. VERY FREQUENTLY IT DOES THIS WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP SIGN WHICH CAN CAUSE A STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. *TR
AFTER FILLING FUEL TANK, PULLED INTO TRAFFIC AND THE VAN STALLED 30 SECONDS LATER. WAS ABLE TO PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC AND RESTART. THIS HAPPENS NOW EVERY TIME THE FUEL TANK IS FILLED. WITHIN A MINUTE OR TWO OF LEAVING THE GAS STATION, THE ENGINE WILL AT LEAST HESITATE AND MANY TIMES STALLS COMPLETELY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THE ENGINE BLOWS OUT OF NO WHERE LEAVING THE VAN ALMOST INOPERABLE. I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE 3.8 LITER ENGINES. IT WAS DRIVING FINE AND THEN THERE WAS EXTREMELY LOUD KNOCKING AND A SUDDEN LOSS IN POWER. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET PULLED OVER I CHECKED THE OIL AND IT HAD "DISAPPEARED". TO CORRECT THE ISSUE A NEW ENGINE IS NEEDED AND THESE NEWER ENGINES FROM CHRYSLER HAVE A MODIFIED OIL PUMP WHICH TELLS ME THEY KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND ARE CORRECTING IT BUT ONLY AFTER YOU SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR THE NEW MOTOR. *TR
I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT CARS- BUT GRAND CARAVANS 05 AND 06 MODELS ARE ALL HAVING REAR EVAPORATOR'S THAT ARE BREAKING DOWN. IN FACT IF YOU PUT IN "REAR EVAPORATOR" INTO GOOGLE THE FIRST LINK IS ABOUT THE GRAND CARAVAN PROBLEM. THAT'S HOW BAD IT IS. IT'S AN EXPENSIVE PART AND THEY AREN'T DOING A RECALL DUE TO BAD CRAFTSMANSHIP. I DON'T THINK THIS CONSTITUTES A SAFETY RECALL BUT AMERICAN CONSUMERS ARE GETTING CHARGED FOR SOMETHING THAT IS A KNOWN DEFECT. *TR

WHEN DRIVING IN WET CONDITIONS, PARTICULARLY SPLASHING THROUGH WATER, THE VEHICLE SERPENTINE BELT BEGINS TO CHATTER AND THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES A BRIEF REDUCTION/LOSS OF POWER. THIS BECOMES PARTICULARLY TROUBLESOME WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE STATED THAT THERE IS NO MECHANICAL DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE THAT THEY CAN FIND. THIS HAPPENS ON REPEATED OCCASIONS AND CAN BE REPRODUCED EVEN TODAY. IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR SOME TIME NOW. *TR

PRECISION ALIGNMENT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT WAS WORN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TO DETERMINE IF THE MOTOR MOUNT WAS FAULTY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
