TWICE DURING 2013, I HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WITH NO WARNING AND NO APPARENT TRIGGERING MECHANISM, THE VAN?S HORN WOULD BEGIN A CONSTANT BLARING AND THE FRONT AND REAR WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD GO BACK AND FORTH. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT. THE INCIDENTS LASTED ONLY A COUPLE OF MINUTES EACH TIME. BOTH TIMES, I TOOK THE VAN TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. ON JANUARY 27, 2014, AFTER REMOTELY OPENING THE SLIDING DOOR BUT BEFORE STARTING THE CAR (I WAS STILL IN THE HOUSE), THE MINIVAN?S HORN BEGAN A CONSTANT BLARING, AND THE FRONT AND BACK WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON. AFTER A FEW MINUTES WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT IT WOULD NOT STOP ON ITS OWN THIS TIME, I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY TERMINALS, BUT NOTHING CHANGED. AFTER 30 MINUTES, I DROVE THE VAN TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER. DURING THE 15 MINUTE DRIVE, THE CAR WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT AT ALL. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE SERVICE CENTER, THE MECHANIC DISCONNECTED THE FUSE (OR POSSIBLY THE TIPM) TO STOP THE CAR?S HORN AND WIPERS. AFTER A MECHANIC INSPECTED THE MINIVAN, THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT THE TIPM WAS BAD AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I PAID THE ENTIRE COST OF $818.00 ($610.00 FOR THE TIPM AND $208.00 FOR LABOR). *TR

IN JANUARY 2014 AS I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE THE GAUGES ON THE DASH SUDDENLY QUIT WORKING, ALL OF THE INDICATOR LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON, THE WIPERS TURNED ON AND THE RADIO AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM NO LONGER FUNCTIONED. I TOOK IT TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY EVENTUALLY DIAGNOSED IT WITH A FAULTY TIPM. THE FAULTY TIPM ALSO CAUSED THE POWER DOOR MODULE TO FAIL. NEITHER REPAIR WAS COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WE BOUGHT WITH THE VEHICLE AND WE SPENT $1200 FOR THE REPAIRS. THE SAME THING HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS LATER, THIS REPAIR WAS COVERED BY THE DODGE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WARRANTY OF 6 MONTHS 6,000 MILES. ON JANUARY 11TH THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN AND MY 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AGAIN HAS A TOTAL FAILURE OF THE TIPM. 3 TIMES IN LESS THAN 13 MONTHS. I CONTACTED DODGE CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR AND WE AGAIN WILL HAVE GO COVER E REPAID OUT OF POCKET. *TR
THE TPMS VALVE STEM BROKE AT METAL THREADS RAPIDLY RELEASING AIR FROM TIRE!!! *TR
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES ON MY GRAND CARAVAN TWO TIMES SO FAR. I HAD TO REPLACE THEM AFTER APPROXIMATELY 18,000 MILES AND NEXT AT 44,000 MILES. I DO MOSTLY CITY DRIVING AND ONLY PUT AROUND 10K A YEAR ON THE CAR. CURRENTLY THERE IS A GRINDING SOUND. I WILL NEED TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT BY THE DEALER. AT LEAST THREE TIMES THE CALIPER STUCK AND YOU COULD SMELL THE BURNING OF THE BRAKE PAD. IN THE MOST RECENT INSTANCE THE HEAT WAS SO HIGH ON THE RIGHT DRIVERS SIDE FRONT BRAKE, THAT IT MELTED THE VALVE STEM PLASTIC CAP. I HAVE PAID NOW APPROXIMATELY 1,800 DOLLARS TO THE REPLACE BRAKES. AFTER THE LAST TIME I PAID FOR THEM TO INSTALL SOME SORT OF ADAPTER TO HELP WITH THE KNOWN BRAKE ISSUE ON THIS MODEL. OBVIOUSLY, IT DID NOT WORK. THE HEAT GENERATED IS VERY HIGH AND COULD BE DANGEROUS. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT IS WELL KNOWN AGAINST THIS MODEL YEAR AND CAR. ...UPDATED 10/7/2014 *JS

SOMETIMES, ON NEXT TRY (TURN IGNITION SWITCH TO OFF POSITION AND THEN BACK TO START POSITION) WILL START. SOMETIMES AFTER MANY TRIES IT WILL START. SOMETIMES TURN THE KEY TO ON, PLACE SHIFTER IN DRIVE, THEN HARD BACK INTO PARK AND WILL START THEN. HAVE REPLACED BATTERY, STARTER, RELAYS, AND MADE NO DIFFERENCE. CODES DO NOT COME UP AND DEALER HAS NO IDEA OF HOW TO CORRECT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING,THE ENGINE STALLED. MY WIFE HAD TO PULL OVER WHILE TURNING TO RESTART THE VAN. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS WEATHER THE ENGINE IS COLD OR WARMED UP. WHEN THE VAN STALLS, AN ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. THE LIGHT GOES OFF AFTER A FEW DAYS. MY MECHANIC CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. I SEE THAT CHRYSLER HAD A RECALL FOR THEIR 2010 MODELS BECAUSE OF AN IGNITION SWITCH ISSUE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE. MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VAN BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T KNOW WHEN THE VAN WILL STALL AND LOOSE ALL POWER. THIS IS SERIOUS BECAUSE WHEN THE VAN STALLS, SHE LOOSES ALL POWER STEERING. MY WIFE HAS TO TRY TO PUT THE VAN INTO NEUTRAL TO GET IT STARTED WHILE DRIVING AND OR TURNING THE VEHICLE. THIS MODEL YEAR VAN HAS NO RECALLS FROM DODGE FOR THIS ISSUE . WHAT AM I TO DO . THE VAN COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF MAKING A U TURN. THE ENGINE, THE ELECTRICAL JUST STOPPED WORKING AND THE STEERING WHEEL GOT REALLY TIGHT BUT I WAS ABLE TO GLIDE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION PUT THE VAN IN PARK AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. I TOOK IT TO DODGE AND THEY REPAIRED THE POWER STEERING SAYING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. NOT SO, THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE THE FIRST AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. TODAY IS 8/29/2014 AND I AM STRANDED BECAUSE IT WON'T TURN ON AT ALL. WAITING FOR AAA. *TR

I JUMP IN MY RIDE WITH THE KEYS IN MY HAND AND THE VAN LOCKED ME IN I WAS UNABLE TO GET OUT AND FLUID WAS GOING ALL OVER MY GARAGE. FINALLY THE VAN LET ME OUT AND WE HAD TO PULL THE BATTERY TO GET IT TO STOP. IT HAD TO SIT ALL DAY BEFORE IT WOULD NOT DO THOSE THINGS. THEN YESTERDAY I WENT TO WALMART AND HEARD AN ANNOUNCEMENT THAT A VEHICLE WAS GOING CRAZY IN THE PARKING LOT. OF COURSE IT WAS MINE, I ONCE AGAIN HAD TO PULL THE BATTERY TO GET IT TO STOP. AFTER A FEW HOURS WE JUST PULLED ALL THE FUSES SO THAT WE COULD GET IT HOME. ALSO FOR MANY YEARS NOW THE TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON IN THE WINTER AND IT STARTS VERY FUNNY IN THE WINTER. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY MANY PEOPLE AND IT IS HAPPENING AS IT IS GOING DOWN THE ROAD. ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL TURNS ITSELF OFF AND ON AT RANDOM. WARNING LIGHT ESP/BAS ILLUMINATES AND ESP IS TURNED OFF AUTOMATICALLY. THIS LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF AT SEEMINGLY RANDOM TIMES. DEALER IS NOT SURE WHY WANTS TO CHARGE ME TO START CHANGING PARTS IT IS NOT SURE ARE BROKEN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND MY VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF AS WELL AS THE ENGINE. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON HIGH EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE IN THE OFF POSITION. THE CAR HORN WAS ENGAGED AND I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE FUNCTION OF THE SYSTEMS. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR BUT THE LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON ETC. EVEN WITH THE KEY REMOVED AND THE EXITING THE WIPERS, HORN, HAZARD LIGHTS STILL WERE ENGAGED. THE CAR STARTED TO SPRAY WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID AS WELL. THE LOCKS WOULD UNLOCK AND LOCK AS WELL. EVENTUALLY APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES IT STOPPED. I WAS ABLE TO STARED THE CAR AND MOVED IT TO A SAFE LOCATION. I TOOK VIDEO OF THE INCIDENT. I AM HIGHLY CONCERNED AS THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM BASED ON MY RESEARCH AND THERE DEFINITELY COULD HAVE BE A FATALITY LAST NIGHT! *TR

TIRE LOW PRESSURE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN I STOPPED TO PUT AIR IN IT THE CAP CAME OFF WITH HALF OF THE VALVE STEM AND THE INSIDE PIECE FLEW OUT AS TIRE DEFLATED. I HAD PREVIOUSLY ASKED THE DEALER TO CHECK AND AIR UP THE TIRES AS THE INDICATOR LIGHT HAD COME ON PREVIOUSLY...WITH IN 45 DAYS. THANKFULLY THIS HAPPENED SITTING STILL. I HAVE THE PARTS AND THE ALUMINUM VALVE SHOWS METAL OXIDATION. THESE ARE HAZARDOUS. I WANTED TO SWITCH TO RUBBER VALVES AND TIRES PLUS SAID IT WAS FEDERALLY MANDATED THAT I COULD NOT AND THEY WOULD LOSE THEIR JOB AND $10K FINE. THE DODGE DEALER WANTED TO $208 TO REPLACE IT. MY PAYMENTS ARE ONLY $244.50...IN THE "OLD DAYS" A RUBBER STEM WAS $1.75 AND COULD MOUNT IT MYSELF AT THE GAS STATION. *TR
PLASTIC Y ADAPTER THAT CONNECTS THE TWO HEATER CORE HOSES BEGAN LEAKING AS A DRIP ONTO THE EXHAUST. THE LEAK WAS SO SLIGHT AND RANDOM THAT IT WAS TOUGH TO LOCATE. HOWEVER YOU COULD SMELL THE ANTIFREEZE AS IT BURNS OFF BECAUSE IT COMES DIRECTLY INTO THE CAB. I HAVE READ THAT CHRYSLER IS NOT RECALLING THIS DUE TO IT NOT BEING A SAFETY ISSUE. I TEND TO DISAGREE WITH THIS AS INHALING ANTIFREEZE CAN OVERTIME CAN BE HARMFUL AS INGESTING IT IS. AND SINCE THIS IS TYPICALLY A FAMILY VEHICLE COULD AFFECT YOUNGER CHILDREN GREATER SUCH AS MY 14 MONTH OLD AND THREE OLDER CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 11. CHRYSLER WILL FIX THIS AT THE DEALER FOR A WHOPPING $350 AND TO BUY THE PART ALONE TO DYI IS $140. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AS IT CAN BE REPLACED WITH $10 WORTH OF PARTS FROM LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE. SO NOT ONLY IS THERE A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED DUE TO THE SAFETY RISK, BUT CHRYSLER IS CHARGING WAY TOO MUCH FOR THE REPAIR. I WAS STOPPED AT MY CHURCH FOR A WOMEN'S BANQUET WHEN I REALIZED I COULD NOT REMOVE MY KEY FROM THE IGNITION. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OF PLAYING WITH IT, I BECAME FRUSTRATED. I THEN TURNED IT ON AND TRIED TO PUT IT IN REVERSE SO I COULD LEAVE, AND IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. WHILE DRIVING THE VAN AT 65 MPH WHILE ON RT.23 ON MY WAY TO FINDLAY, OHIO, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CYCLED A COUPLE TIMES, THE GAUGES WENT TO ZERO, THE RADIO TURNED OFF AND THE WARNING ALARM WENT OFF A COUPLE TIMES. THIS OCCURED TWICE WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO FINDLAY AND TWICE ON MY WAY BACK HOME. EACH TIME, THE VAN CONTINUED TO RUN. AT THE TIME BOTH HANDS WERE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. I KNOW THE DATE BECAUSE I WAS HEADED TO MY SON'S SOCCER GAME AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY. IT WAS A VERY UN-NERVING EXPERIENCE. ON OTHER DATES THE WIPERS HAVE RUN BY THEMSELVES AND EVEN SPRAYED WINDSHIELD CLEANER FOR A BRIEF PERIOD. I HAVE NOTICED THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THE SAME BEHAVIOR ON THEIR VANS. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS A LOT OF NOISE COMING FROM THE RELAY BOX ( TIPM ), I UNHOOKED THE BATTERY, AND THE PROBLEM "SELF RESOLVED" FIRED UP CAR AND DROVE IT THE 15 MILES HOME. AFTER LOOKING UP PROBLEM ON LINE, HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A ONGOING ISSUE AND THAT THE REPAIR PART IS BACK ORDERED NATIONALLY, TELLS ME THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE, CHRYSLER DOES KNOW ABOUT BUT HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
