THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THE RECALL REPAIR WOULD NOT BECOME AVAILABLE FOR TWO-THREE MONTHS. THE CONTACT WAS NOT PLEASED WITH THE TIME FRAME INVOLVED WITH HAVING TO HAVE THE RECALLED COMPONENT SERVICED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,750.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V139000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ONLY FOUR SETS OF THE PARTS COULD BE ORDERED PER WEEK. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT A LATER DATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WE WERE PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AND AFTER A COUPLE HUNDRED OF YARDS THE VEHICLE JUST TURNED OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND ALL CONTROL WAS LOST. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT WE WERE ALARMED BECAUSE WHAT IF THERE WAS A CAR IMMEDIATELY BEHIND US. AFTER THAT INCIDENT THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES WHICH I THINK IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I HOPE THIS WILL BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V394000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE). TWO DAYS LATER, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 98,700.
THE ENGINE DIED AND WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON WHILE DRIVING. SUSPECT THIS IS DUE TO FAULTY IGNITION WIN CONTROL MODULE OR IGNITION SYSTEM . NEARLY CAUSED A CRASH. WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN (LOST BRAKES, AND POWER STEERING) AND PULL TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AVOIDING BEING HIT BY OTHER CARS. TRIED STARTING THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES IT THEN STARTED AGAIN. ( TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHANGED OUT OUR FOB/KEY THING. AND SEEMED TO FIX THE ISSUE. MOST RECENTLY 3/12/14 PARKED, ATTEMPTED TO RESTART VEHICLE 10 MIN LATER AND THE KEY WILL NOT TURN OVER THE ENGINE.(PLASTIC FOB TYPE KEY) NO STARTER NOISE. ( LIGHTS WORK, KEY IN IGNITION WARNING DING OCCURS. LIGHTS TURN ON BUT NO RADIO, OR ENGINE START. WILL NOT RESTART NOW. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SO THEY COULD ORDER THE PART NEEDED FOR REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL ADVISED THAT THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE THE PART AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER DID NOT ADHERE TO THE RECALL NOTICE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE TRAFFIC WAS VERY HEAVY, HENCE I HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES FREQUENTLY OVER A DISTANCE OF APPROXIMATELY 15-20 MILES. AS A RESULT OF OVERHEATING OF THE BRAKE DRUMS, ONE OF THE BRAKE CALIPERS 'FROZE' (I.E. THE BRAKE PISTON STUCK IN EXTENDED POSITION) AND CREATED EVEN MORE OVERHEATING AND EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE BRAKE PAD AND ROTORS. IN EXTREME CASES, THIS CAN CAUSE THE ROTOR TO LOCK UP WITH LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. IN MY OPINION, THE BRAKES DESIGN IS INSUFFICIENT FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS CONFIRMED BY THE FACT THAT CHRYSLER REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE/PARTS NOW SPECIFY A SEMI-METALLIC BRAKE PAD, SIMILAR TO WHAT IS OFTEN USED ON RACE CARS TO HANDLE THE EXCESS HEAT. *TR
ALL POWER IN THE DRIVER DOOR WENT DEAD. I DON'T HAVE MIRRORS, WINDOWS, ANYTHING. MY MECHANIC SAID THE PART I NEED IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER, WITH A NEW PART NUMBER FROM CHRYSLER. THIS MEANS THAT ALL OF THE PARTS I CURRENTLY HAVE/NEED ARE OBSOLETE DUE TO A KNOWN ISSUE. TO HAVE A NEW PART NUMBER WOULD MEAN THAT THE PART WOULD NEED TO BE REDESIGNED FROM THE GROUND UP DUE TO A KNOWN ISSUE. THIS ISSUE MAY HAVE THE CHANCE TO GROW INTO A BIGGER ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IF I DIDN'T KNOW BETTER; WHICH WOULD LEAN TO FIRES, CRASHES, ETC AS ALL OF THE CARS BUILT RELY ON ELECTRICAL SIGNALS FOR POWER STEERING, BRAKES, DASH MESSAGE AREA, AIR BAGS, ETC. I'M SURPRISED THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED YET TO THE KNOWN ISSUES AND ISSUES IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN A STRONG ODOR WAS COMING INTO THE VEHICLE. I PULLED OFF ON THE NEXT EXIT RAMP TO CHECK WERE THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM. THE BACK ROTOR FAILED (LOCKED UP), ON THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE, TURNING THE ROTORS WHITE HOT AND CAUSING THEM TO SMOKE. DROVE VEHICLE HOME AFTER A HALF HOUR AND VEHICLE WAS FINE BUT THIS KEEPS OCCURRING FOR THE NEXT TWO MONTHS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN OVER 15 MINUTES. BRING VEHICLE INTO DODGE DEALERSHIP AND ASK WHY THE BRAKING SYSTEM KEEPS FAILING AND THE TOLD ME A TSB HAS BEEN ISSUED AND IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP STATED THEY ARE HAVING NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES ON THIS MODEL. THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS/ROTORS FOR $100 BUT I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKES/ROTORS REPLACED. IT IS NOW TWO WEEKS LATER AND I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR BRAKES !!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH A VEHICLE AS THIS VEHICLE. FIVE RECALLS AND VARIOUS OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS POC !!!!!!!!!!! THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE BRAKES OF THIS VEHICLE PLEASE GOOGLE AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE NEED TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED.....PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND HAVE THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES !!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE THREE CHILDREN AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE BUT LIKE MOST AMERICANS I CAN NOT AFFORD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER NEW VEHICLE !!!!!!!! THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE !!!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, THE BRAKES ENGAGED, THE HORN BEGAN TO SOUND, AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY MANEUVER TO THE SHOULDER AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. THE HORN CONTINUED TO SOUND AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS REMAINED ACTIVATED FOR A FEW MINUTES. UPON RESTART, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 37,104.
WE HAVE BEEN REPLACING OUR BRAKES EVERY 4 MONTHS OUR MECHANIC SAYS THE BRAKING SYSTEM FOR THIS VAN WAS DESIGNED TOO SMALL LOVE THE VAN BUT WILL TRADE IN FOR SOMETHING MORE SAFE WE DO HAVE 4 CHILDREN IN OUR VAN DAILY AND WITH THE BRAKES WEARING OUT SO QUICKLY WE DON'T KNOW WHEN THE BRAKES ARE GONNA GO OUT NEXT...VERY DISAPPOINTED THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL OF SOME SORT. *TR
ON 4 OCCASIONS OUR 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HAS GONE INTO A MODE WHERE THE LIGHTS FLASH, THE HORN HONKS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS COME ON, WASHER FLUID SQUIRTS OUT, AND THE DOORS LOCK. WHEN MOVING, IT ALSO APPEARS TO DOWNSHIFT TO LOWER GEAR. ONCE IT STARTS, IT APPEARS THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO LET IT RUN ITS COURSE WHICH CAN TAKE UP TO 10 MINUTES (DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY DID NOT MAKE IT STOP). DURING THE TIME IT IS HAPPENING THE KEY FOB DOES NOT WORK. OF THE 4 TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED, IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE WHILE DRIVING AND TWICE WHILE SITTING STILL (ONCE WITH KEY IN IGNITION AND ONCE WITHOUT). I HAVE IT AT THE DEALER AND SO FAR IN 2 DAYS THEY HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING WRONG. THERE ARE LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVANS WHO HAVE THIS EXACT SAME OR SIMILAR ISSUE. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ISSUE IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE MOVING WHEN IT HAPPENS. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V373000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED FOR THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED ILLUMINATING WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT ALWAYS IMMEDIATELY TURN BACK ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE HEADLIGHT MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE VALVE STEM FRACTURED WHEN THE PLASTIC CAP WAS REMOVED, EXPOSING NEEDLE VALVE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE AND A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED TWICE BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,605 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
2008 GRAND CARAVAN HAVING DANGEROUS ELECTRICAL / POWERTRAIN PROBLEMS. VAN SUDDENLY LOSES ELECTRICAL CONTROL. HORN BLOWS, WINDSHIELD WIPERS RUN, WASHER FLUID SPRAYS, DOORS LATCH (OR FAIL TO UNLATCH) TRANSMISSION GOES LIMP. SEVERAL OTHER REPORTS OF EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUE ARE LISTED ON THIS SITE. ACCORDING TO SOME POSTS ON THE WEB, THERE IS AN UPDATE FOR SIMILAR ISSUES ON THE 2010S. ALSO, I AM FINDING THESE SAME REPORTS ON DODGE WEBLOGS FOR OTHER DODGE VEHICLES, NOT JUST THE GRAND CARAVAN. IN DECEMBER OF 2011, WE DECIDED TO CHECK THE OIL IN OUR 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN BECAUSE THE SOUND OF THE MOTOR SEEMED TO HAVE CHANGED. THE VAN SEEMED TO BE RUNNING A LITTLE LOUDER. WE CHECKED THE OIL, AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE STICK. WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OIL. WE WASN'T SURE IF IT LEAKED OR BURNED. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY ASKED IF WE NOTICED THE OIL LEAKING, WE SAID NO. THEY SAID IN SITUATIONS LIKE THESE WE DOCUMENT THE MILEAGE AND TOP THE OIL OFF AND HAVE YOU COME BACK UP TO 1000 MILES LATER. SO WE DID. WE DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP ADMITTED THIS SHOULDN'T BE OCCURRING AND THE VEHICLE IS DEFINITELY BURNING TOO MUCH OIL. THEY KEPT THE VAN MADE A CLAIM WITH NAC OUR VAN WARRANTY COMPANY TO PAY FOR EXPENSES OF REPAIR, AND NAC SENT BACK A REPORT SAYING CHRYSLER VEHICLES ARE EXPECTED TO BURN UP TO A QUART TO A QUART AND A HALF OF OIL FOR EVERY 750 MILES DRIVEN. SO THEY SENT US AWAY WITHOUT REPAIRS. LITERALLY LESS THAN A WEEK AND ABOUT 550 MILES LATER WE WERE BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH MORE THAN 2 QUARTS OF OIL DOCUMENTED BEING BURNED. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT OUR VAN FOR REPAIRS AGAIN...THE WARRANTY REFUSED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS AND WE ARE DRIVING THE VAN AS IS...IM NOT SURE OF THE SAFETY ISSUES BUT IM SURE THERE ARE MANY THAT CAN BE ASSESSED. I'VE SEARCHED THE WEB AND WE ARE NOT THE ONLY CONSUMERS WHO ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. WE CARRY OUR FAMILY OF SEVEN TO AND FROM SCHOOL ETC AND THE PURPOSE OF NEWER VEHICLES ARE TO ENSURE SAFETY AND ELIMINATE WORRIES OF PROBLEMS. PLEASE HELP. *TR

2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BRAKE ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS, THE RIGHT BRAKE PAD AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. MANY OF THE REPLACEMENTS WERE DONE WITH LESS 12,000/15,000 IN BETWEEN. UPDATED 09/17/13
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V235000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING). AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE WIRES WERE LEFT EXPOSED AND DETERIORATED. AS A RESULT, THE WINDOWS WOULD NO LONGER OPEN AND THE DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK . THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 129,060.
I WAS GOING 70 MPH ON A HIGHWAY, WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN, AND I CAME UPON AN AREA WHERE I NEEDED TO REDUCE MY SPEED TO 60 MPH. AS I WAS PUTTING MY FOOT BACK OVER FROM THE BRAKE TO THE GAS PEDAL MY SHOESTRING WAS SUDDENLY CAUGHT ON SOMETHING. I COULD NOT MOVE MY FOOT SO I QUICKLY USED MY OTHER FOOT TO TAKE MY SHOE OFF. THANKFULLY I WAS THEN ABLE TO USE MY BARE FOOT TO GET IN CONTROL OF THE PEDALS AGAIN. I STOPPED THE VAN TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A CLAMP OF SOME KIND TO THE RIGHT OF THE GAS PEDAL AND MY SHOESTRING WAS CAUGHT IN IT. IN MY OPINION THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF I HAD BEEN BUMPER TO BUMPER IN THE CITY WHEN THIS HAPPENED I WOULD HAVE LIKELY REAR ENDED SOMEONE. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO REMOVE OR REPLACE THIS CLAMP ON THESE VANS. *TR

DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE 2008 DODGE CARAVAN. WHEN UNLOCKING THE VAN, THE HORN STARTING BLOWING AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED GOING. AFTER DRIVING A FEW BLOCKS, THE VAN WENT INTO 2ND GEAR AT 4000 RPM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
