MY PARENTS BOUGHT A 2010 DODGE CARAVAN NEW, AND WE WERE ON A FAMILY ROAD TRIP IN CALIFORNIA THIS MONTH. MILEAGE WAS ONLY AT 3500 (M/L) WHEN WE LEFT WASHINGTON. IT HAD JUST BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP BEFORE WE LEFT. USED CRUISE CONTROL ON I-5 SOUTH THROUGH WASHINGTON, OREGON, AND CALIFORNIA. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS FUSSY AND INCONSISTENT, BUT FUNCTIONAL MORE OR LESS. AFTER ARRIVING AT FAMILY MEMBER'S HOUSE IN CA., NEVER USED CRUISE CONTROL WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE OF WINDY ROADS. ON TUESDAY, JUNE 17TH, 2014 (DURING OUR TRIP) , I WAS HEADING EAST ON HWY. 12, WEST OF LODI, CA. THERE WAS A LONG MERGE LANE, AND I WAS ACCELERATING IN TO TRAFFIC. I WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL. AS I PULLED ON TO THE HIGHWAY, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WENT OUT FROM UNDER MY FOOT AND STUCK TO THE FLOOR. I PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, AND THE ENGINE WAS ROARING, RED-LINED. I REMEMBERED HEARING ON THE NEWS TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, WHICH I DID. THE BRAKES WORKED, AND I PULLED OVER ON THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. THE MOTOR WAS STILL REVVING, SO I THEN TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF CONVERSATION WITH FAMILY (AND PRAYERS OF THANKS!!!), WE CONTINUED ON OUR WAY. ON THURSDAY, JUNE 19TH, I TOOK THE VAN TO A DODGE DEALER IN FOLSOM, CA. TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. MILEAGE WAS AT 4308 IN FOLSOM, SO VEHICLE WAS BASICALLY NEW, BUT OFF WARRANTY. THE ONLY THING THEY FOUND WAS A TRANSMISSION CODE FOR OVERHEATING 6 STARTS AGO. THEY SAID EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE. I HAVE CHECKED A FEW WEBSITES, AND WE ARE NOT THE FIRST PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACCELERATOR PROBLEM. I AM SO THANKFUL THAT MY 80 YEAR OLD MOM WAS NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENED, OR THERE COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC RESULTS. I REALLY HOPE CHRYSLER TAKES THIS SERIOUSLY AND FINDS A SOLUTION FOR THIS, BEFORE PEOPLE DIE FROM THIS KIND OF INCIDENT.SCARY. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,431.

IN THE FIRST DRIVE OF THE DAY (NO MATTER WHAT TIME OF THE DAY) WITHIN 4 BLOCKS OF MY HOME, THE VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS SO FAR HAPPENED 8 TIMES OVER THE LAST 9 MONTHS. THIS INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED WITH 3 DIFFERENT DRIVERS AND IN THE SAME EXACT LOCATION 7 OUT OF THE 8 TIMES. VEHICLE IS ALWAYS COASTING (NOT ACCELERATING) AROUND 20 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURS, THE ENGINE TURNS OFF, WHICH DISABLES THE STEERING, BRAKES, AND ACCELERATION. THIS LEAVES THE DRIVER AND ITS PASSENGERS IN SERIOUS, POTENTIALLY LETHAL, DANGER. WE HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CLAIM THAT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THEY STATE THAT THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WIN MODULE AND WIRELESS IGNITION MODULES WERE FAULTY. THE MODULES WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. IT WON'T ALWAYS START. IT WILL CLICK TO TRY TO BUT WON'T. DON'T MATTER IF IT'S HOT OR COLD. IGNATIION SWITCH BEEN CHANGED 3 TIMES. STARTER BEEN CHANGED. BATTERY BEEN CHANGED. VEHICLE IS ALWAYS AT STAND STILL. BEEN DOING THIS SINCE I PURCHASED VEHICLE IN 2014 AND THE DEAL WON'T DO NOTHING ABOUT IT.
CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR BRAKE WORK. MECHANIC INFORMED ME OF CRACKS, SPLITTING AND CORROSION OF THE COLLAR THAT HOLDS THE VALVE STEM AND SENSOR IN PLACE ON BOTH REAR WHEELS. BOTH VALVE ASSEMBLIES WERE REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO I HAD THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL VALE ASSEMBLY FAIL WHILE I WAS ON THE ROAD. THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND WITHIN SECONDS THE TIRE WAS FLAT. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE COLLAR HAD FAILED ! THE VALVE ASSEMBLIES APPEAR TO BE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND ARE PRONE TO CORROSION. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ! THE REPLACEMENT ASSEMBLIES APPEAR TO BE MADE OF THE SAME MATERIALS. THIS MEANS THEY ARE PRONE TO FAILURE AS WELL. VERY UNSAFE! *TR
I HAVE THREE TOMS SENSORS NUTS CORRODE AND FALL OFF MY VEHICLE. I HAVE PAID OUT HUNDREDS AND HAVE BEEN LUCKY TO NOT BE GOING DOWN A HIGHWAY WHEN IT HAPPENS. CAN'T BELIEVE SOMETHING HAS NOT BEEN DONE THRU DODGE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE IGNITION SWITCH TURNED OFF AND RESULTED IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. VEHICLE WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND ALMOST CAUSED A MULTIPLE CAR PILEUP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR MONTHS. DODGE CHARGED ME $89 TO DIAGNOSE AND THE RESULT WAS THE DEALER TOLD ME TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND MY RADIATOR CAP MIGHT BE LEAKING. I CONTACTED DODGE CORPORATE ESCALATING TO A MANAGER WITH NO RESULTS. MY WIFE AND KIDS COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I WAS FORCED TO TRADE TO VEHICLE WHICH COSTS ME LOTS OF MONEY LOSS. DODGE DID NOT CARE AND EITHER DID THE DEALER. THERE ARE NO OTHER KEYS ON THE KEY RING TO INTERFERE. *TR

DRIVING ON LOCAL ROAD, IN CHICAGO WHEN I DISCOVER A TIRE IS FLAT. I NOTICE THAT THE VALVE IS BADLY CORRODED AND THAT THE NUT THAT SHOULD BE HOLDING IT IN PLACE IS MISSING. WHILE EXAMINING THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WOULD SHUT OFF BUT THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUE TO OPERATE IF THE IGNITION KEY WAS ROTATED SLIGHTLY TOO FAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,501.
OUR 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN IS OVER CONSUMING OIL. WE HAVE A NORMAL OIL CHANGE DONE AND BEFORE WE GET TO THE 3000 MILES WHEN THE NEXT ONE IS TO BE DONE THE VAN IS DRY/OUT OF OIL! THEY WOULD TOP IT OFF AND SAY COME BACK IN 1000 MILES. THAT IS NOT NORMAL A VEHICLE SHOULD NOT KEEP NEEDING OIL TO BE ADDED AND IF NO OIL IS ADDED IT IS EMPTY BEFORE YOU HAVE DRIVEN 3000 MILES.
