ALMOST 67,000MILES, 2011 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN V6 AUTOMATIC. VEHICLE HAS BECOME HARD TO START AND WILL OCCASIONALLY DIE OR ACT FUEL STARVED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED (15-25MPH). TOOK VEHICLE IN TO DEALER FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD I HAVE A FAULTY TIPM MODULE. AFTER RESEARCHING A BIT ONLINE THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE FOR DODGE VEHICLES FOR YEARS 2007-2015. FOR SUCH A COMMON ISSUE I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS NOT A RECALL. *TR
ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN WHILE IT WAS STATIONARY AND GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. IT WOULD NOT START WHEN TURNING ON. HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP AND NOW BEING TOLD THAT IT NEEDS THE TIPM REPLACED TO START.
WE HAVE HAD OUR VAN NOW FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS WITH NO PROBLEMS. IN MID-AUGUST, MY WIFE WAS TAKING MY DAUGHTER TO MARCHING BAND PRACTICE AT 5 AM. SHE TOLD ME THAT AS SHE WAS GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION, IT JUST STALLED ON HER. THANKFULLY, IT WAS ONLY 5 AM AND NOT DURING RUSH HOUR. BEING THE SKEPTICAL GUY I AM, I THOUGH MAYBE SHE HAD HIT THE KEY SOMEHOW AND SHUT IT DOWN. THEN IT HAPPENED TO ME AND I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED. I CHECKED IT OUT AND DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING, BUT FROM THAT DAY FORTH, IT BECAME HARD TO START AT RANDOM TIMES. SOMETIMES WHEN WE TURN THE KEY, THE IGNITION WILL CRANK, BUT THE ENGINE WON'T START AND WE'LL HAVE TO TURN THE KEY OFF TO MAKE IT STOP TURNING OVER. OTHER TIMES, IT WILL ATTEMPT TO START, OR EVEN START, THEN IMMEDIATELY STALL. EVENTUALLY, AND SOMETIMES AFTER 8-10 ATTEMPTS, IT WILL START AND RUN UNTIL THE NEXT TIME WE PARK IT. EVER SINCE I CHECKED IT OUT, I HAVE NOTICED THAT, AT TIMES, YOU CAN'T HEAR THE HUM OF THE FUEL PUMP WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY, WHILE OTHER TIMES IT DOESN'T SEEM TO STOP MAKING NOISE. JUST THIS MORNING, I LEFT TO GO TO WORK, ONLY TO FIND THAT THE VAN WON'T START. APPARENTLY, ONE OF THE OTHER OBVIOUS SIGNS OF A BAD TIPM IS THE OCCASIONAL DEAD BATTERY....CAUSED BY A FUEL PUMP THAT THE TIPM FUEL RELAY FAILS TO SHUT OFF.AT THIS POINT, MY VAN HAS BEEN SITTING SINCE OCTOBER OF 2016, AS WE CANNOT AFFORD THE HIGH REPAIR COST. THE REPAIR ESTIMATE THAT I WAS QUOTED FOR THE TIPM WILL COST AROUND $1100. HAD THIS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF BY CHRYSLER, I MAY HAVE SAVED WHAT I SPENT ON BATTERIES AND THE ALTERNATOR.
TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM) FAILED. ENGINE WOULD NOT START WHILE CAR WAS STATIONARY. FUEL PUMP RELAY WITHIN THE TIPM WAS MALFUNCTIONING, PREVENTING POWER FROM GETTING TO THE FUEL PUMP, THEREFORE PREVENTING PROPER OPERATION OF THE FUEL PUMP. I UNDERSTAND THIS PROBLEM CAN ALSO MANIFEST ITSELF AS EITHER LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING, OR A CONTINUAL RUNNING OF THE FUEL PUMP, EVEN WHEN VEHICLE IS OFF (THEREBY DRAINING THE BATTERY).
MY AUTOMATIC DETECTOR FOR WINDSHIELD WIPERS IS INOP. MY VEHICLE WILL NOT START UP IN THE MORNING. REPLACED NUMEROUS ITEMS AND WAS TOLD IT WAS TIPM WHICH IS A KNOWN ISSUE SEARCHING THROUGHOUT THE INTERNET.
SEVERAL THINGS HAS BEEN HAPPENING. VAN WOULD SPEED UP FOR NO APPARENT REASON, IT HAS STALLED WHILE DRIVING, TWO FRONT WINDOWS WENT DOWN BY THEMSELVES, I'VE HAD TO TRY SEVERAL TIMES TO START THE VAN, ITS GOTTEN A LOT WORSE! TOOK IT TO CR DODGE DEALER IN ADRIAN MI HAD TO PAY $60.00 TO DIAGNOSE IT. THEY CAME UP WITH THERMOSTAT AND CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR LABOR $297.05 PARTS $76.20 TOOK IT HOME A COUPLE DAYS SAME CRAP. PUT 02 OXYGEN SENSOR BECAUSE IT WAS ALSO RUNNING REALLY BAD AT TIMES. A COUPLE DAYS LATER SAME CRAP. TOOK IT BACK AGAIN SAID IT NEEDS A NEW FUEL PUMP MODULE. HAD TO TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC BECAUSE IT WOULD TAKE THEM AT LEAST 2 WEEKS TO GET ONE IN.SO AROUND $500.00 FOR THE PUMP. A FEW DAYS LATER AGAIN HARD TO START, IT SEEMS LIKE IF THERE WERE A LOT OF MOISTURE IN THE AIR OR RAIN IT WAS WORSE. SO YESTERDAY WENT OUT AND WAS COMPLETELY DEAD! GOT A JUMP IT FINALLY STARTED. TURNED IT OFF TRIED TO START IT WITH THE AFTERMARKET REMOTE STARTER WOULDN'T START AGAIN AT ALL AFTER THAT JUST CRANKS AND I DON'T HEAR THE FUEL PUMP COMING ON. I TOLD THE "DODGE" SERVICE MAN THAT I READ ABOUT THE TIPM AND I THOUGHT IT WAS THAT. HE SAID NO, HE SAID IT DEPENDS WHEN AND WHERE THE VAN WAS MADE???? DODGE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS!!!! I AM SOOOOOOO AGGRAVATED!!!! *TR
MY 2011 CARAVAN HAS 68K MILES ON IT. FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS, IT WILL INTERMITTENTLY HAVE PROBLEMS STARTING. EVERYTHING SEEMS FINE UNTIL YOU TURN IT TO CRANK AND THEN IT JUST MAKES A CLICK NOISE. IT WILL DO THIS ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO 20 TIMES UNTIL IT FINALLY CRANKS. IT WILL BE FINE FOR DAYS AND THEN SUDDENLY... NO START. I'VE LEFT IT AT MY MECHANIC FOR ONE WEEK LAST MONTH AND ONE WEEK THIS MONTH. THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT NO AVAIL. THEY HAVE SEEN IT IN ACTION (ACTUALLY CAME TO ME BECAUSE THEY ARE TOTALLY STUMPED TOO), BUT CANNOT REPLICATE IT. SO I'M OUT $800 IN CAR RENTAL FEES AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT WHY THE THING IS ACTING LIKE IT IS. I'M WORRIED I'M GOING TO BE STRANDED WITH A HAND FULL OF KIDS AND A CAR THAT WON'T START. I DON'T LIKE FEELING LIKE I CAN'T TRUST MY CAR. DODGE HAS BEEN UNHELPFUL AS WELL, ALTHOUGH I'M GIVING THE DEALERSHIP A SHOT AT THIS PROBLEM AGAIN AND TAKING IT THERE. ANOTHER WEEK OF RENTAL CAR FEES - YAY! FROM READING ONLINE AND A QUICK YOUTUBE SEARCH, IT APPEARS I'M NOT ALONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I JUST WANT IT FIXED, WHATEVER THE PROBLEM IS.
TROUBLE STARTING THE VEHICLE. IT STAYS STUCK ON TURNING IT OVER. YOU HAVE TO TURN OFF TURN IT ON AGAIN AND AGAIN IT WILL STAY STUCK IF YOU DON'T TURN IT OFF. I'M AFRAID I WILL BE LEFT STRANDED. THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY AND TAKING LONGER TO START. I THINK ITS A FAULTY TIPM.
CAR (2011 GRAND CARAVAN) WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED TO SAFFORD DODGE IN SPRINGFIELD, VIRGINIA. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A BAD FUEL PUMP. I PAID $950 FOR A TOW AND A NEW FUEL PUMP. AS SOON AS I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME, IT WAS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING (CRANK BUT NOT START). EVENTUALLY, IT STARTED BUT, LATER IN THE DAY, IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR IT TO BE TOWED IN AGAIN. EVENTUALLY, THE SERVICE GUY CALLS BACK AND SAYS THEY ARE HAVING TROUBLE PINPOINTING THE PROBLEM. BEFORE THIS POINT I HAD RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND DISCOVERED THE MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THE TIPM MODULE. THE NEXT MORNING HE CALLS MY WIFE AND TELLS HER THAT WE NEED A NEW TIPM MODULE AND IT'S GOING TO COST $1200 TO REPLACE IT. SHE TOLD HIM THAT WE WOULD PAY FOR THE TIPM MODULE PROVIDED THEY DEDUCTED THE COST OF THE NEW FUEL PUMP WHICH WE BELIEVE WAS REPLACED IN ERROR. SERVICE GUY WAS ADAMANT THAT FUEL PUMP WAS BAD AND THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. HE SAID THEY HAD ISOLATED THE PUMP AND CONFIRMED THAT IT HAD POWER COMING TO IT BEFORE DIAGNOSING THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS MAY BE TRUE BUT I HAVE ZERO FAITH THAT THIS GUY WAS TELLING ME THE TRUTH. I HAVE READ SEVERAL REPORTS ON THE INTERNET WHERE PEOPLE HAD THEIR FUEL PUMP REPLACED IN ERROR. I EVENTUALLY WENT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. HE WAS ALSO INSISTENT THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAILED SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE TIPM MODULE. I ALSO ASKED HIM IF THEY HAD REPLACED MULTIPLE TIPM MODULES AND HE ACTED AS IF THIS WAS A VERY RARE REPAIR; HOWEVER, WHEN HE INSINUATED THAT MY FUEL PUMP AND TIPM HAD FAILED SIMULTANEOUSLY, HE ACTED AS IF HE HAD SEEN THIS SEVERAL TIMES?! MY CENTRAL CONCERN IS THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL REPORTS OF THE TIPM MODULE FAILING ABRUPTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEED.
BEGAN WITH AIRBAG LIGHT ON PANEL COMING ON AND RANDOM LOCKING AND UNLOCKING OF DOORS AND DYING WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. ALL THESE HAPPEN WETHER THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION OR NOT. THEN IT WOULD ONLY START USING THE REMOTE STARTER AND NOW IT ONLY STARTS WHEN JUMPED BY ANOTHER RUNNING VEHICLE, EVEN WHEN THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED(TESTED). IT WILL SIMPLY CRANK AND CRANK TILL BATTERY IS DEAD(ABOUT 10 MINUTES) UNLESS IT IS CONNECTED TO ANOTHER RUNNING VEHICLE. IT WILL START EVEN IF BATTERY IS CLOSE TO DEAD THEN.
I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN, AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. MY ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OVER, IT "TICS..TIC..TIC..", UNTIL I HAVE ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS PROBLEM IS ERRATIC..2011 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN, HAVE BEEN TOLD IT NEEDS A TIPM DUE TO A "SERVICE BULLETIN" THE DEALERSHIP HAD. I DO NOT HAVE THE $1150 TO FIX THIS! I AM AFRAID TO BE STRANDED SOMEWHERE, AND AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS APPARENTLY COMMON ISSUE, I SEE THAT IT COULD LEAD TO JUST RANDOM STALLS WHICH IS SCARY. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT. MY WARRANTY HAS PROVEN USELESS IN THAT DOES NOT COVER THIS . I SOMETIMES HAVE TO ATTEMPT UPWARDS OF 10 TIMES TO FINALLY GET THE ENGINE TO COMPLETELY TURN OVER. IT ALSO SEEMS TO RUN ROUGH SOMETIMES, PARTICULARLY WHEN UP A HILL, ETC. I CAN NOT TRUST THIS VEHICLE TO BE DEPENDABLE AND SINCE IT IS NOT THAT OLD, AND IT APPEARS AS IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, I BELIEVE THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS IF THE VEHICLE WERE TO STALL. DATED OF INCIDENT ON THIS FORM IS THE MOST RECENT, BUT NOT THE ONLY TIME IT HAS HAPPENED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE ENGINE, THE FUEL SYSTEM FAILED TO ENGAGE AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED A FAILURE CODE FOR THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V530000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING ISSUES STARTING, INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST, ABOUT 3-4 WEEKS AGO. 4 DAYS AGO, VEHICLES BATTERY WAS DEAD, WOULDN'T START FOR SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. STALLED TWICE WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH CONTINUED TO NOT START, BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, STARTER, WIRING ALL CHECKED OUT OKAY WITH LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE FUEL PUMP RELAY IN THE TPIM (TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE) WAS BAD, REQUIRED WHOLE TPIM TO BE REPLACED.
WAS DRIVING AND VAN SHUT DOWN WITH NO POWER STEERING IT WAS DIFFICULT TO COAST OFF HIGHWAY ALMOST GOT HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. WHEN I DID IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN RIGHT AWAY BUT EVENTUALLY AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPS IT CRANKED UP. THIS HAS HAPPEND MULTIPLE TIMES AND I HAVE YOUNG KIDS TO HAVE TO BE TAKEN TO SCHOOL IN IT. THX DODGE
MY AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND GO OFF RANDOMLY. I TOOK IT BACK TO MY DEALER AND IT WAS STATED THAT IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH IN THE WIRING BUT NOT AN ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG. NOW MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR OVER A MONTH. I CHECKED RECALLS AND SEE THERE IS A RECALL ON 2011-2012 DODGE GRAND CARAVANS FOR THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG RANDOMLY DEPLOYING YET NOTHING FOR MY VIN. I DRIVE MY CHILDREN AROUND IN THIS VEHICLE AND IF THE DRIVER SIDE OR EITHER SIDE WAS TO RANDOMLY DEPLOY....THIS IS A CATASTROPHE WAITING TO HAPPEN!!!
FOR THE PAST YEAR OR SO WE HAVE HAD CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND OFF AND HAVE HAD IT CHECKED AT DODGE DEALERSHIPS AND PRIVATE MECHANICS. THE CODE THEY KEPT COMING UP WAS A GENERAL CODE OF "MISFIRE" SO DODGE CONVINCED US TO GET THE SPARK PLUGS FIXED AND TO DO FUEL CLEANER TO OUR FUEL TANK BECAUSE IT WAS "PROBABLY THAT". AFTER THE FIXES WERE MADE AS A RESULT OF WHAT DODGE TOLD US TO DO, THE SAME PROBLEMS CONTINUED TO OCCUR. AFTER SEVERAL MORE TIMES OF THE VAN "SPUTTERING" DOWN THE ROAD IN BOTH CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING FEELING LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL OUT WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED INJURY TO MY FAMILY OR MYSELF, IT GOT TO THE POINT IT WOULD NOT EVEN START. WE TOOK IT TO GET FIXED YET AGAIN THINKING IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP TO FIND OUT IT WAS THE TIPM. THIS IS A PART THAT IS KNOWN TO GO WRONG IN DODGE VANS YET THERE IS NO RECALL ON IT OR ANY FIX FOR IT. I TRANSPORT MY THREE KIDS IN THIS VEHICLE THAT WE STILL OWE MONEY ON TO FIND OUT ONE OF ITS MAIN COMPONENTS IS FAULTY AND THERE IS NO FIX SO IT IS OVER A GRAND OUT OF OUR POCKETS (AND SEVERAL 100 OTHER PEOPLE) TO GET THIS PART FIXED. NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT OUR CAR IS RENDERED USELESS UNTIL THIS IS DONE. DODGE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS PART THAT IS FAULTY IN 2011 GRAND CARVANS. FAMILIES DON'T NEED TO BE SERIOUSLY HURT OR EVEN KILLED BECAUSE THIS LITTLE PART STOPS WORKING MID DRIVE (WHICH HAPPENED TO US BUT WE WERE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY WITH NO ONE AROUND). PLEASE HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE. IF YOU CAN'T THEN MAKE SOMEONE ELSE! IT IS NOT FAIR TO THE CONSUMER WHO PUT THEIR TRUST IN DODGE! THIS HAS BEEN A YEAR AND A HALF OF CONSTANT ISSUES THAT HAVE COME OUT OF OUR WALLETS WHILE THE CAR MAKER SITS PRETTY.
WOULD NOT START ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. PURCHASED NEW BATTERY. TOOK IT TO LOCAL MECHANIC. ALMOST PUT IN A NEW STARTER BUT RESEARCHED IT FIRST ON THE INTERNET. SEEMED LIKE IT WAS A FAULTY TIPM. CALLED LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER AND TOLD THEM THE ISSUES. AFTER A WEEK, THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW TIPM ($1200) AND WOULD NOT COVER THE COST. SAID THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT A TIPM RECALL. I DID NOT GET IT REPLACED. CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY SAID THAT I DID NOT QUALIFY FOR A RECALL. I HAVE DRIVEN CHRYSLER DODGE CARAVANS FOR OVER 25 YEARS AND I AM GREATLY DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY ARE NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. THEY KNOW THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH ALL THE TIPMS IN THEIR VEHICLES AND THEY ONLY RECALLED CERTAIN MAKES AND MODELS. MEANWHILE, I HOLD MY BREATH EVERY TIME I TRY TO START MY CAR. I AM RETIRED AND CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THAT PART FOR THAT PRICE. I HAD THIS CAR AS A COMPANY CAR STARTING IN JANUARY OF 2011 AND PURCHASED IT FROM ARI IN JULY OF 2014.
DODGE DEALERSHIP FINALLY DIAGNOSED MY FAULTY TIPM IN MY 2011 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW AND STARTED HAVING STARTING ISSUES WHILE PARKED AT ABOUT 15K MILES ALL THE WAY UP TO PRESENT MILEAGE OF 70K MILES. ORIGINALLY WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED IN THE IGNITION I WOULD GET NOTHING, JUST A VERY QUICK HALF TURN OF THE MOTOR (NO TRUE CRANKING). THIS STRANGE ELECTRICAL SHORT WOULD SELF RESOLVE AFTER 15 MINUTES AND THEN CARAVAN WOULD STARTUP. THIS ISSUE PROGRESSIVELY BECAME MORE FREQUENT AS THE MILES WERE ADDED RACKED UP ON THE VEHICLE. NOW AT 70K MILES THE CARAVAN WILL ONLY CRANK BUT NOT START UP. WHEN IT DOES START IT WILL STUTTER AND THEN STALL OUT. EVENTUALLY I WILL BE ABLE TO GET IT TO START BUT IT WILL FEEL HESITANT AT TIMES WHILE DRIVING IT. THIS HARD START HAS BEEN OCCURRING ALMOST TIME I TRY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE NOW. THE DEALERSHIP WAS FINALLY ABLE TO REPLICATE IT NOW AT 70K MILES (BECAUSE IT IS A GUARANTEED TO OCCUR) AS OPPOSED TO WHEN IT WAS VERY INTERMITTENT AND UNPREDICTABLE. OF COURSE NOW THAT I'M OUT OF WARRANTY IT WILL COST ME $1400 FOR A NEW TIPM OR THE OTHER OPTION PROPOSED IS TO CUT MY ELECTRICAL WIRING AND SOLDER A STANDALONE RELAY TO BYPASS THE INTERNAL RELAY INSIDE THE FAULTY TIPM AT A RATE OF $500. AS EVIDENCED BY INTERNET RESEARCH, THIS ISSUE IS RAMPANT ACROSS THE CHRYSLER/DODGE PRODUCT LINE AND I'M SURPRISED THAT THIS IS NOT A VOLUNTARY RECALL ALREADY. I SEE THAT IT IS IN LITIGATION AT THE MOMENT AS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.
MY VAN DOES NOT ALWAYS START.--WHEN PARKED IN DRIVEWAY OR PARKING LOT; NO DIFFERENCE IF FLAT OR HILL OR ANYTHING. SOME DAYS IT STARTS WITH OUT ANY PROBLEMS, OTHER DAYS IT WILL NOT START EVER--IT MIGHT START AT 8AM, NOT AT 11AM, BUT WORK FOR A WEEK...NO PATTERN. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE SHOW 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS--EACH TIME IT STAYED FOR MORE THAN 3 DAYS. THEY THOUGHT BATTERY; BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY. NEXT DAY, NO START. IT WOULD EVENTUALLY START AFTER 5-10 ATTEMPTS. I NOTICED IT WOULD USUALLY HAVE THAT ISSUE WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN STARTED WITHIN A FEW HOURS. ONCE IT STARTED, IT RAN FINE AND IF TURNED OFF WOULD START BACK UP FINE. DEALERSHIP INITIALLY DIAGNOSED THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR BUT DID NOT FIX THE SITUATION. THEY CALLED CHRYSLER FOR ANY INPUTS ON WHAT THE ISSUE COULD BE AND WERE TOLD IT MOST LIKELY IS THE TIPM. THE FOLLOWING IS WHAT THEY WROTE ON MY WORK ORDER: "USING POWER PROBE FOUND VOLTAGE FROM FUEL PUMP TO LOW TO MAINTAIN PROPER FUEL PRESSURE. USING POWER PROBE ADDED VOLTAGE THROUGH M37 FUSE AND FOUND VEHICLE TO OPERATE AS INTENDED." THE REPAIR TOTALED TO $1,000. THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE $300+ REPAIR FOR THE TEMP. COOLANT SENSOR THAT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THIS IS ABSURD TO BELIEVE THE TIPM IS RECALLED ON THE JEEP AND DURANGO BUT NOT THE CARAVAN WHEN IT CLEARLY IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES IN MANY FORUMS ACROSS MANY WEBSITES. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO SINCE MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT SPECIFIC PART IS NOT RECALLED. THE NEXT DAY RECEIVED CALL FROM DEALERSHIP SAYING THE ALTERNATOR(160 AMP) WAS COMPLETELY FRIED AND HAD A BLOWN CELL IN THE BATTERY WHICH WAS ONLY 15 MONTHS OLD. DEALERSHIP QUOTED $1100.00 REPAIR PRICE AND WAS STILL UNSURE IF ANY OTHER SYSTEMS HAD BEEN AFFECTED. WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DETERMINE UNTIL NEW BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR HAD BEEN REPLACED. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014 REPLACED THE TIPM( TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE) AFTER MULTIPLE STARTING FAILURES AND CONTINUALLY RUNNING FUEL PUMP HAD BEEN FOUND, AND NOW 18 MONTHS LATER MY ALTERNATOR FAILS WITH NO WARNING OR INDICATIONS. IN ADDITION THE SAME ALTERNATOR IS LISTED UNDER A CHRYSLER DEFECT NUMBER P60, HOWEVER CHRYSLER INFORMED ME BECAUSE MY CAR IS NOT ON THE LIST IT DOESN'T APPLY.

IT ALWAYS STARTS AFTER I CAN HEAR THE PUMP TURN ON. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE I WILL JUST HEAR A CLING WHEN GOING TO START THE VEHICLE BUT THE STARTER DOESN'T TURN OVER JUST CLING. THAT HAS HAPPENED TWICE. I GOT THE BATTERY CHECKED OUT BY AAA THE BATTERY WAS JUST WORKING GREAT.
SEVERAL TIMES THIS WINTER MY WIFE HAS WENT TO START OUR VEHICLE AND IT WOULD NOT START. THIS HAS RESULTED IN MISSED TIME AT WORK AND KIDS MISSING SCHOOL AS WELL AS 1 OCCURRENCE OF BEING STRAINED WHILE OUT SHOPPING. IT SEEMS TO EFFECT IT MOSTLY WHEN REALLY COLD OUTSIDE 30 OR BELOW. WE HAVE ALSO HAD SEVERE ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES. I HAVE HAD ALL FOUR BRAKES REPLACED TWICE AND BOTH FRONT ROTORS AS WELL AS CALIPERS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM IS THAT AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING (20-30 MINS) THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE DRAGS CAUSING A VERY STRONG METALLIC SMELL TO ENTER THROUGH THE AIR VENTS INSIDE THE VAN. MY WORRY IS THAT ONE DAY IT WILL CATCH ON FIRE AND MY VEHICLE WILL BE LOST IN THE FIRE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO START WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL AND WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
IN THE YEAR THAT I HAVE OWNED MY VAN, IT HAS EXHIBITED MULTIPLE PROBLEMS, THAT I THOUGHT WERE DIFFERENT ISSUE, BUT I NOW FIND ARE ALL RELATED TO A DEFECT IN THE TIPM. SPORADICALLY, WHETHER VEHICLE WAS COLD, OR NOT, I WOULD PUT THE KEY IN TO START IT AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. NO SOUND, AS IF THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. I COULD SHIFT THE CAR OUT OF PARK, PUT IT BACK IN PARK, AND THE CAR WOULD START. THE NEXT SYMPTOM THAT EXHIBITED WAS THAT I WOULD TRY TO START THE CAR AND IT WOULD TURN OVER, BUT SOUND AS IF IT WAS OUT OF GAS. IT WOULD EVENTUALLY START. FINALLY IT GOT TO THE POINT THAT IT WOULDN'T START AT ALL. TESTING SHOWED THAT THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. IT WAS RECHARGED AND THE VEHICLE DRIVEN AND TESTED TO DETERMINE THAT THE BATTERY WAS HOLDING A CHARGE, AND THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS NOT THE ISSUE. THROUGH DIFFERENT TESTING IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ISSUE WITH TIPM. THE FACT THAT I AM GOING TO BE TASKED WITH A $1500 REPAIR ON A CAR THAT I STILL OWE $14,000 ON IS RIDICUOUS. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY CHANCE THAT THEY MIGHT BE ACKNOWLEDGING THIS ISSUE AND FIX IT. THE ASST. MANAGER STOPPED JUST SHORT OF LAUGHING AT ME. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO I'M STUCK PAYING MY FINANCE COMPANY FOR A VEHICLE I CAN'T DRIVE AND BASICALLY SERVES AS LITTLE MORE THAN A PRETTY YARD ORNAMENT WE JUST GOT THIS VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER 2015 THE FIRST SIGN OF AN ISSUE WAS LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER PURCHASE AFTER LITTLE MORE THAN A MONTH AFTER DRIVING OFF THE LOT AND THE THIRD TIME LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING THE FINAL TIME BEING ON 275 IN CINCINNATI 1/5/16 I DECIDED THAT IT'S PROBABLY BEST TO PARK THE VEHICLE AND NOT PUT OUR FAMILY IN JEOPARDY ESPECIALLY DURING THE COLD CINCINNATI WINTER UNTIL WE CAN FIGURE IT OUT OR AFFORD BOTH THE CAR PAYMENT AND THE TRIP TO THE RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE DODGE DEALERSHIP TO PAY FOR THEIR TECHNICIANS FIGURE IT OUT AND THEN PAY AGAIN TO HAVE IT REPAIRED
BOUGHT VEHICLE 10 MTHS AGO. HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH IT STARTING. ANTI THEFT SYSTEM CAME ON, BATTERY DRAINED AND KEY LOCKED IN IGNITION. COULD NOT GET IT OUT WITHOUT CHARGING BATTERY. VEHICLE IS NOW NOT WANTING TO START EVERY TIME. TOOK TO DEALER, FOUND OUT HAS FAULTY TIPM. PARTS ON BACK ORDER AND WILL END UP COSTING ALMOST $1200 TO REPAIR. STILL OWE $14000 FOR VEHICLE AND HAVE TO GET REPAIRS. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FOR MY 89 YEAR OLD MOTHER SO THAT SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO PUT HER ELECTRIC SCOOTER IN THE BACK OF IT FOR TRAVEL. COMPANY THIS WAS PURCHASED AT, I AM SURE KNEW OF THE ISSUE, JUST AS I AM SURE THEY KNEW OF RECALL ON A WINDOW SWITCH THAT WASN'T REPAIRED. IF THIS PART IS NOT REPAIRS, STEERING CAN GO OUT WHILE DRIVING, AMONGST OTHER FATAL THINGS, SUCH AS BRAKES GOING OUT OR STALLING MIDDLE OF DRIVING. DEALER TRYING TO BLAME OTHER COMPANY FOR INSTALLING FAULTY TIPM, WHEN IT IS THE COMPANY'S FAULTY PART.
