AUTO TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT, ENGINE REVS AND NO POWER, WRENCH LIGHT AIRBAG WARNING LIGHTS,DEAD SPEEDO, ODOMETER SHOWS DASHES. HAD TRANS FLUID CHANGED. NO HELP. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL PROBLEMS NOTED ON THE INTERNET. DEALERS ARE NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM BY REBUILDING THE TRANS FOR SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. THE TRANS FAILING SHOULD NOT AFFECT THE VARIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS INCIDENT. THE SYSTEM WILL RESET IF THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED WITH NOTHING INDICATING A PROBLEM. THERE DOESNT APPEAR TO BE ANY CODES SET. I URGE FORD TO EMBRACE THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT BECAUSE THE TRANS "JUMPS" OUT OF GEAR AND CAUSES AN ACCIDENT. THIS REPORTED PROBLEM SHOULD NOT BE "NEWS" TO YOUR COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT. I HAVE CHOSEN TO ALWAYS PREFER A FORD PRODUCTS DURING MY 50 YEARS OF DRIVING AND EXPECT AN HONEST, THOROUGH AND CONCISE INVESTIGATION BE GIVEN TO THIS PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT. WHEN IT WAS TIME TO GO, MY EDGE WOULD NOT MOVE. I HAD TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO GET TO MOVE VERY SLOWLY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES. ALSO, I STOPPED AT MY GARAGE DOOR AND WHEN IT WAS TIME TO GO IN, MY CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I PUT IT IN REVERSE AND GOT A LOUD CLANKING SOUND. I REVVED THE MOTOR VERY HIGH TO GET IT TO SLOWLY INCH INTO THE GARAGE. THOUGHT IT MIGHT GO OUT THE OTHER SIDE SINCE THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED PRETTY FAR DOWN, MADE IT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. PAID CLOSE TO $1000 FOR REPAIRS. LESS THAN 1200 MILES MY PROBLEMS STARTED AGAIN, THIS TIME I'M TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE MY SENSORS, I DID ($900). NOW I'M BACK AGAIN. SAME PROBLEM. THIS TIME I'M TOLD I NEED TO HAVE MY COIL ASSY AND MAIN CONTROL CHECKED AND REPAIR. PROBLEM STARTING AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. COULD RESULT IN A INJURY WHEN YOU ARE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC.

WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER AND ACCELERATION, AND JERK IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG AND TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, THE ODOMETER GAUGE FAILED TO PROVIDE THE ACTUAL READING, AND ERROR CODE (ODO) INDICATED A DATA ERROR WITH NO MILEAGE. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT REPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE CODE OUTPUT SHAFT SENSOR CIRCUIT AND THE OUTPUT SHAFT SENSOR (NO SIGNAL P0722) SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TSSO SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,276.
VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY AND RANDOMLY DISPLAYS ODO DATA ERROR ON INSTRUMENT PANEL, MILEAGE AND SPEEDOMETER DON'T FUNCTION, VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE. THIS RESETS ITSELF AFTER TURNING CAR OFF, REMOVING KEY, THEN RESTARTING CAR. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FORCE FORD TO ISSUE A RECALL, WHEN SOMEONE DIES? I WAS DRIVING OUT OF TOWN FOR A WORK MEETING WITH AN EMPLOYEE. ONLY GOING APPROX 45-50 MPH, ALL THE SUDDEN THE SPEEDOMETER DROPS TO 0 ALONG WITH THE MILEAGE ON MY CAR(JUST DASHES), THEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THEN FEW MINUTES LATER THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT. WE WERE COMING UP ON A RED LIGHT SO I SLOWED DOWN AND STOPPED. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PRESSED MY GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR WENT NO WHERE. I SLOWLY MOVED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT MY CAR OFF. I WAS HOPING TO MAKE IT TO THE GAS STATION 2 MILES UP THE ROAD. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES TURNED MY CAR BACK ON A VERY ODD NOISE HAPPENED THE SPEEDOMETER WAS BACK ON AND THE LIGHTS WERE GONE, I WENT TO PUT THE CAR IN D AND THE ODD NOISE AGAIN, PUSHED THE GAS TO ACCELERATE AND NOTHING. CURRENTLY MY CAR IS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WAITING A TOW 1 HOUR AWAY FROM HOME. I'M LUCKY MY CHILDREN WERE NOT WITH ME WHEN THIS OCCURRED, IT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. THIS WAS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH THIS, NOT ONLY DANGEROUS BUT VERY EMBARRASSING WITH AN EMPLOYEE IN MY CAR AS WELL.
DRIVER DOOR AJAR LIGHT REMAINS ON AFTER CLOSING THE DOOR SEVERAL TIMES. ONCE LIGHTS FINALLY GO OUT, IT WILL POP RIGHT ON AGAIN, EVEN AS I WAS DRIVING. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, BECAUSE WE'LL NEVER KNOW WHEN THE DOORS ARE AJAR. EVEN BIGGER ISSUE IS THE DOORS NOT BEING UNLOCKED IN THE PROCESS. JUST ANNOYED WITH THIS ALLTOGETHER. HOPEFULLY SOMETHING WILL BE DONE ABOUT IT. IT'S DRAINING THE BATTERY IN THE PROCESS. THANK YOU.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 81,576.
I BOUGHT THIS 08 FORD EDGE SEL AWD WITH 74000 MILES . IVE HAD IT LESS THAN A YEAR AND HAD THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS. * STALLING. * LOUD CLUNKING IN REVERSE AND JUMPS INTO GEAR. * FRONT DRIVERSIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW PILLARS ARE BIG BLIND SPOT. VERY DANGEROUS ALMOST HIT PEDESTRIANS. * VEHICLE ROLLS BACK ON SMALL INCLINES. ALMOST ROLLED INTO VEHICLE BEHIND ME. VERY DANGEROUS. * VEHICLE STRUGGLES IN REVERSE UP SMALL INCLINES. * DRIVERSIDE HEADLIGHT WAS OUT FOR A MONTH CAUSE CAR NEEDED SOFTWARE UPDATE. TRUCK STALLED AGAIN TODAY THIS TIME I TURNED OFF AND ON WOULDN'T GO IN REVERSE INSTEAD DROVE FORWARD ALMOST HITTING PARKED CAR... STILL HAVE POPPING NOISE IN FRONT END CLUNKING NOISE IN REVERSE SOMETIMES AGAIN.. IM STARTING TO GET NERVOUS CUZ MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME. - EMAILED TO FORD SERVICE CENTER REP. OCT. 1ST. FORD MECHANICS SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE YET IT HAS STALLED 4X AND HAS PROBLEMS IN REVERSE . CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 6X FOR SAME ISSUE . IM TIRED OF BRINGING IT BACK AND FORTH.
DRIVER SEAT JOLTS BACK WHEN YOU ACCELERATE.
9/11/2015 MY ABS LIGHT STARTED GOING ON AND OFF A FEW DAYS AGO SO I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID AND IT WAS EMPTY. I FILLED IT UP LAST NIGHT AND THE LIGHT STILL CAME BACK ON THIS MORNING. AS I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION THIS MORNING, MY BRAKES TEMPORARILY WENT OUT AS I TRIED TO STOP. I WAS ABLE TO STOP IN TIME THOUGH BECAUSE I WAS NOT GOING VERY FAST. THEY WENT BACK TO WORKING AFTER THAT. NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT EVEN TO TAKE IT TO GET SERVICED. I DID CHECK THE FLUID AND IT IS STILL FULL.
MY TRANSMISSION IS BEING REPLACED AT 96,400 MILES. I'VE BEEN HAVING INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WHERE IT WOULD CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING TO THE NEXT GEAR. I'VE PAID HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS BETWEEN 2 FORD DEALERSHIPS AND 2 AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOPS JUST TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE ISSUE IS. BUT LAST WEEK AS I STARTED MY 30 MILE DRIVE HOME, MY CAR STOPPED SHIFTING. NOW I'M PAYING ROUGHLY $5,000 TO GET A TRANSMISSION IN MY CAR. ON TOP OF PAYING $200 FOR A RENTAL CAR DURING ALL OF THIS. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED!

THE CONTACT STATED THAT A WARNING LIGHT KEPT RANDOMLY FLASHING FOR THE DOOR SENSOR, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE DOOR WAS NOT SHUT WHEN THE DOOR WAS CLOSED AND VISE VERSA FOR ALL FOUR DOORS. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE UNLESS THE CONTACT MANUALLY UNLOCKED THE DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE INTERNAL DOME LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AS THE FAILURE PROGRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF GEAR. TAKE FOOT OFF GAS THEN PRESS GAS AND TRANSMISSION JERKS THE VEHICLE HARD. ONCE STOPPED, VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE. RESTART ENGINE 3 TIMES AND IT WORKS. SOMETIMES WRENCH ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES.

THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
IN AUGUST 2015 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 45 MPH ON A FOUR LANE ROAD WHEN THE VEHICLE CAME TO A SUDDEN CRAWL APPROX .10 MPH. THIS WAS ON A CITY STREET.SHE COULD BARELY GET OFF THE ROAD WITH LIMITED POWER. SHE CALLED ME TO COME TO THE SCENE AND WE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC. AT THE TIME, THE VEHICLE HAD 61,000 MILES ON IT. THE MECHANIC CALLED AND STATED THE PROBLEM CODE SHOWED IT WAS THE OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR (OSS) AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FLUID. UPON PICKING UP THE VEHICLE, IT WAS REPAIRED PROPERLY AND WAS BACK TO NORMAL. IT WAS REPAIRED BY A ASE MASTER MECHANIC. THE DELAY IN REPORTING THIS INCIDENT IS TWO FOLD. SINCE THE AUGUST 2015 INCIDENT, I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED CHECKING ON-LINE THERE ARE NUMEROUS CASES OF THE 2007 & 2008 FORD EDGE DOING THIS. RECENTLY, I PARKED NEXT TO A LADY LOADING HER GROCERIES IN A 2008 FORD EDGE. WHEN I ASKED HER HOW SHE LIKED HER EDGE, YOU GUESSED IT, THEY WERE ON A FAMILY TRIP WHEN THE OSS WENT OUT ON HERS. SHE STATED HERS WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY . MY REPAIR COST $370.00 WHICH WAS A FAIR PRICE. IT IS MY PERSONAL OPINION, FORD KNOWS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BUT THE FACTS ARE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO NOT COMPLAIN TO NHTSA AND THIS KEEPS FROM FORD HAVING TO ANNOUNCE A RECALL ON THE 2007 & 2008 FORD EDGE.
TAKATA RECALL I WAS NOTIFIED TWO YEARS AGO THAT MY CAR WAS ON THE RECALL LIST. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICKLE AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOTIFY ME WHEN THEY HAD THE REPLACEMENT PART. I HAVE CALLED NUMEROUS TIMES AND KEEP GETTING THE SAME INFORMATION. I WOULD THINK IN THIS TIME SPAN I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET THIS REPLACED
MOST RECENT 8/14/2015, PULLED OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND THE CAR LOST POWER, BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. RPM'S WILL GO UP, BUT THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE. REVERSE WORKS. TOOK IT TO AUTO ZONE, NO CODES WILL COME UP. WHEN I BOUGHT IT OFF THE LOT (9 MONTHS AGO) IT WAS WORKING JUST FINE AND HAS BEEN GOING DOWN EVER SINCE. SINCE LAST NOVEMBER (11/2014) WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR, WHEN DRIVING THE CARS SPEEDOMETER WILL DROP DOWN TO ZERO AND A WRENCH LIGHT WILL COME ON WITH A FEW OTHER LIGHTS AND ACT LIKE IT IS STUCK IN A HIGH GEAR. AFTER TUNING THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF (KEY OUT OF IGNITION AND DOOR OPENING AND CLOSING) AND CHECKING FLUIDS I STARTED THE CAR BACK UP AND HEARD A LOUD CLUNK AND WHEN I PUT IT INTO DRIVE THERE WAS ANOTHER CLUNK AND AFTER GETTING THE CAR UP TO ABOUT 10MPH (THE CAR IS STILL ACTING LIKE ITS STUCK IN A HIGH GEAR) THERE WAS ANOTHER LOUD CLUNK AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD CATCH AND ACT LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THIS PROCESS REPEATS EVER SINGLE DAY UNLESS I DRIVE IT WITH THE OVER DRIVE OFF, THEN IT WILL STILL HAPPEN BUT ABOUT ONLY TWICE A MONTH. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIP, NONE OF WHICH WILL DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY CANNOT FIND A CODE. EVEN WHEN THE CAR HAS A WRENCH LIGHT ON AND WILL BARLEY MOVE. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO GET RESOLVED BEFORE A SEVERE ACCIDENT OCCURS. HAVE I MENTIONED THIS IS MY ONLY CAR? FROM WHAT I HAVE READ IT COULD BE A COUPLE DIFFERENT SENSORS AND IF THIS IS NOT RESOLVED THIS WAS THE ONLY AND LAST FORD I WILL EVER OWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH CAUTION AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. AFTER RESTARTING, THE RPMS INCREASED RAPIDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE WRENCH AND THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE ODOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER BECAME INOPERATIVE. THERE WAS A REDUCTION IN THE TRANSMISSION POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT TURNING RIGHT TRIED TO ACCELERATE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC BEHIND ME AFTER TURNING AND I COULDN'T GO ANYWHERE. PULLED INTO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT APPROX. 50 FEET OR MORE PILED INTO PARKIN SPOT. THEN SAT FOR A COUPLE INURED WRENCH ILLUMINATED ON DASH BOARD. TRIED TO BACK UP TO STRAIGHTEN VEHICLE AND IT MADE A LOUD CLUNK NOISE WHEN PUTTING IN REVERSE. AFTER TURNING OFF CAR WENT TO RESTART AFTER 30 MINUTES CAR MADE LOUD CLUNK AGAIN WITHOUT BEING IN GEAR. AT THIS TIME IT ISN'T A RECALLED ITEM JUST. TSB AND NOT GETTING ANY RESOLUTION AS TO WHY THIS ISNT A RECALL ITEM. APPROX. 45 MINUTES PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT THIS POINT. THANK GOD IT DIDN'T AS I WOULDN'T BE WRITING THIS LETTER. FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS THIS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A RECALL ITEM.
VEHICLE BEGAN LEAKING LUBRICANT FROM THE POWER TAKE-OFF UNIT ONTO THE EXHAUST PIPE AHEAD OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER CREATING A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. DEALERSHIP REQUIRED REPLACING THE PTU AT A COST OF $1845.40.
TAKATA RECALL - VEHICLE LOSES SPEED CONTROL POWER WHILE DRIVING. WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON INDICATING SERVICE NEEDED. WHEN VEHICLE SHUTS OFF, RESETS ITSELF AND ABLE TO DRIVE 100-150 MILES AND THEN THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM, THE WRENCH LIGHT WOULD HAVE TO BE ON FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THE CODE WAS P0715 - REFERRING TO TURBINE INPUT SPEED SHAFT SENSOR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS AS IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR MY SISTER 6 MONTHS AGO. AT THE THE TIME IN WHICH I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY SISTER, 2 WEEKS LATER SHE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A BRAIN TUMOR AND CANNOT DRIVE. SHE HAS HER SON OR DAUGHTER TO DRIVE HER TO HER MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS AND WHERE EVER SHE NEEDS TO GO. THE LAST THING I NEED IS FOR HER TO BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND POTENTIALLY DIE FROM A DEFECT IN WHICH THE MANUFACTURER COULD HAVE PREVENTED. FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS BEFORE PEOPLE ARE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR DIE. WHY WAIT UNTIL SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS BEFORE YOU FIX THE ISSUE IS BEYOND ANYTHING THAT I CAN COMPREHEND.
WHETHER VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR MOVING IT LEAKS FUEL FROM THE GAS TANK OR THE SEALS, OR THE BRACKETS. WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO FILL IT A HALF TANK AT A TIME. EVEN THEN, TURNING A CORNER TOO SHARP WILL CAUSE THE SMELL AND LEAKAGE OF FUEL. WE CALLED AND THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I DO NOT SEE HOW THERE IS NOT. IT RANDOMLY STARTED HAPPENING ONE DAY. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH IT FOR A WHILE NOW. HOPING THAT A RECALL WOULD COME UP OR SOME TYPE OF INVESTIGATION.
DRIVING STRAIGHT ON FREEWAY AT 70 MPH AND THE DASH SUDDENLY DISPLAYS ODO ERROR. WRENCH LIGHT, LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT, AND AIR BAG LIGHT COME ON. SPEEDOMETER SHOWS 0 MPH BUT TACH STILL WORKS. AFTER I STOP THE CAR AND TRY TO TAKE OFF AGAIN IT HAS NO PICKUP. TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO BE STUCK IN 5TH GEAR OR OVERDRIVE. TACH GOES UP TO 2500 RPM BUT VEHICLE BARELY MOVES. WHEN I SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION MAKES A HORRIBLE CLUNKING NOISE THAT MAKES ME THINK IT WILL COME OUT OF THE BODY. THE ONLY WAY I CAN GET THE CAR DRIVEABLE AGAIN IS TO DISCONNECT BATTERY FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN RECONNECT. EVERYTHING RESETS AND WORKS BUT OCCURS AGAIN-SOMETIMES A WEEK LATER, SOMETIMES A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER.
ON 07-23-2015 AT 10:30 AM EST I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AT THE RATE OF 50 MPH ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE ODOMETER/SPEED GAUGE STOPPED AND THE ENGINE STALLED. AFTER CONSULTING WITH FORD AND ANOTHER MECHANIC SHOP THEY INDICATED THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. HOWEVER THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS DEFECT. THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE AS THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND STOPPAGE OF THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE INJURED ME OR KILLED ME OR POSSIBLE INJURED OR KILLED OTHER PEOPLE. IT APPEARS THIS IS A KNOW SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD HAS NO PLANS TO REMEDY EVEN THOUGH IT COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF LIFE. WHEN BREAKING THE BREAK PEDAL WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO PUSH AND SLOW IN REACTING. THIS NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT ON THE FIRST INCIDENT IN A STANDARD BRAKING SITUATION. AFTER THAT THE BREAKS SEEMED TO BE BACK TO NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED A COUPLE MORE TIMES AND THE CAR IS REALLY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. IF EMERGENCY BRAKING WAS NEEDED THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO STOP IN TIME AND WAS VERY NEAR TO CAUSING MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS IN NORMAL DRIVING. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS THE BRAKE BOOSTER THAT IS THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT FORD IS AWARE OF AND HAS OFFERED TO FIX THIS ISSUE ON NEWER MODELS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO ADDRESSED.

TURNED CAR OFF AND WAITED COUPLE MINUTES, RESTATED, WARNING LIGHTS DISAPPEARED, ODOMETER BACK TO ACTUAL MILEAGE. PUT ON DRIVE, STEP ON GAS, HESITATION THEN LOUD TRANSMISSION THUMP AND CAR STARTED MOVING AGAIN.

DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STOPPED WORKING. THE ODOMETER DROPPED TO ZERO WHILE I MAINTAINED A STEADY SPEED ALONG WITH GAUGE MEASURING RPM. OD DATA ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED. AIRBAG LIGHT AND TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS CAME ON AS WELL. THE ACCELERATION IMMEDIATELY DID NOT FEEL RIGHT. FROM A STOP I HAD VERY WEAK ACCELERATION ALMOST NONE. IT IMPROVED AS I DROVE BUT DID NOT FEEL NORMAL.

VEHICLE OFTEN SHIFTS HARD. IN THE (7) YEARS THAT WE'VE HAD THE 2008 FORD EDGE, THERE HAVE BEEN (6) OCCASIONS THAT WE HAVE BEEN TRAVELLING 60 TO 70 MPH AND THE SPEEDOMETER WILL FALL TO ZERO, AND THE ODOMETER WILL READ "ODOMETER DATA ERROR". WE CAN STILL TRAVEL AT 60MPH OR SO BUT THE ENGINE RPMS CLIMB TO 3000 AND YOU LOSE POWER. YOU CAN'T CLIMB A HILL, EXCEPT IN REVERSE, AND UNLESS YOU'RE ON LEVEL GROUND YOU CAN'T MOVE AT ALL. THE "WRENCH" LIGHTS UP ON THE DASH AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUT OF THIS SITUATION IS TO STOP THE VEHICLE, TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND WAIT FOR 5 TO 10 MINUTES FOR EVERYTHING TO RESET. I'M VERY CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILY'S SAFETY ON THE HIGHWAYS AS THEY TRAVEL WITHOUT ME QUITE OFTEN.

I DECIDED TO REVIEW THE RECALL INFORMATION AS I REMEMBER SEEING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PART. SURE ENOUGH FORD HAS RECALLED THE 2012 - 2014 FORD EDGE MODELS FOR THE BREAK BOOSTER - THE SAME ISSUE IMPACTING MY MODEL. I AM WRITING TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE

MUCH RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY FORD EDGES STARTING IN 2008 BUT RECALLS ONLY EXIST FOR LATER YEARS 2010- 2013. REPAIRS WILL BE COSTLY AND WILL TAKE TIME FROM MY JOB. IF THIS IS SUCH A PROBLEM, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON IT. THE FIRST WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 36,000 PLUS OR MINUS A THOUSAND OR TWO AND THE OTHER WHEN WE ONLY HAD 60,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. THIS IS EXPENSIVE AND SHOULD NOT GO BAD IN THAT SHORT OF TIME. WE DO NOT PULL ANYTHING WITH THE VEHICLE OR DRIVE IT ROUGH.

WHILE YOU START TO DRIVE FROM A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF LOW AND THE ENGINE WILL REV UP AND CAR WILL BE AT A CRAWL WHILE TRYING TO CROSS THE INTERSECTION SAFELY. WHILE BACKING UP, THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO SLAM IT INTO REVERSE WHERE YOU HEAR A LOUD BANG AND THE CAR SUDDENLY JERKS AS IF YOU HAVE HIT SOMETHING. WHILE ACCELERATING TO GET ONTO THE FREEWAY, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS INTO LOW GEAR, STAYS IN LOW AND CAN'T GET UP THE SPEED TO GET ON THE FREEWAY SAFELY. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AT FIRST SPORADICALLY, THEN WHEN I WOULD GET HOME, TURN OFF THE CAR AND THEN WAIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, IT WAS AS IF THE COMPUTER HAD RESET AND IT WORKED FIND. AS TIME WENT ON, IT OCCURRED MORE FREQUENTLY AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT AN OPTION. I HAVE RECENTLY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND NO MORE PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED. MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE IS APPROXIMATELY 102K MILES, BUT THE PROBLEM STARTED OCCURRING AROUND 58K MILES.

DEALER INDICATED THERE WAS A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM ISSUED BY FORD. AS IT TURNED OUT THE CSP ONLY COVERED 2010 - 2013 EDGES. DEALER INDICATED IF PART FAILED BRAKING WOULD BE COMPROMISED. NO ASSISTANCE FROM FORD AND A $550 BILL TO REPAIR. RESEARCH OF OTHERS WITH 2008 FORD EDGE AND BRAKE BOOSTER PROBLEMS REVEALED NUMEROUS OTHERS WITH THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. FORD SHAME ON YOU, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHIC PROBLEM.
