TSB 22-2229 Had dealer change spark plugs, while attempting broke spark plug off in head. Reported they would have to replace the head. More investigation led them to TSB 22-2229 and a boroscope of the head found coolant intrusion. Now the dealer states it will cost me 6500$ to repair the long block due to the coolant intrusion. This is a known problem with 2014-2018 Ford Edge and Ford Escapes as well as other vehicles. Copied from a law group website who is filing a class action lawsuite "Experts recommend that customers notify the Ford motor company as soon as possible once they identify an issue. These problems are not always simple and could cause dangerous consequences. If the leak inside it is left unfixed, it could cause problems with the engine and cause a rear-drive axle seizure." A quick search of this has hundreds of complaints stating this issue. This is not just a rear drive axle seizure issue. This could cause a fire in the engine due to coolant in the combustion. The check engine code did display with a P0300 MISFIRE Cylinder 3 code on it.
My 2018 Ford edge coolant was leaking into my engine causing my oil to turn carmal color. My car only has 81000 miles on it. I had just turned my car on and white smoke came out of the exhaust pipes and then my car light came on that the car was overheated.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated. The local dealer was made aware of the failure when the vehicle was taken in for routine service. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the coolant reservoir needed to be constantly refilled. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic and later to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that coolant had leaked into the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact had been advised by the independent mechanic that the manufacturer had released a TSB related to the failure, TSB: 19-2346 - Coolant in the Cylinders (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
My vehicle only has 77K miles on it and is already needing an entirely new engine due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. We discovered this after replacing all the spark plugs in the vehicle and the check engine light not disengaging. You should not have to replace an entire engine with only 77K miles. This is a known issue with FORD referencing two bulletin's - the first bulletin #19-2346 and now with bulletin #22-2133. They are refusing to cover the repairs 100% and expecting the consumer to pay 40% of the cost of their known issue of a $10K repair ticket. It also clearly states in the recent bulletin that the MIL may or may not engage with this issue. If we had know that this was an issue with this vehicle inside the 5 year/60K mile powertrain warraty which would have covered the repairs 100% we would have taken care of it then. The MIL was never engaged and provided any indication that this was going on. It was discovered after the MIL engaged at 77K miles and we took it in for service and had all spark plugs replaced costing almost $300 in repairs just to discover that did not resolve the check engine light to stop illuminating. This vehicle has been maticulously maintained since taking ownership of it in 2018. All service records are available if needed.
About a week and a half ago, we started getting an error message that the Adaptive steering fault requires service. We contacted our local Ford dealer who says it could be an electrical issue. But can't see us until Nov 1st. Additionally ,when driving straight, the steering wheels ( Ford logo) is turned to the left. It is worrisome but the dealer says it's safe to drive. I don't think so. In doing our research,we've found that this seems to be an issue. I shouldn't have to pay for theses repairs whether through my pocket or through my extended warranty. Which will be out of pocket either way, because I pay for this through my car note and would have a deductible.
APIM Module needs replacing. Screen keeps going black, does not work after trying to reset. Took to dealer and stated it does not work. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!! No contols no navigation, cannot adjust heating, defrost and no rearview camera. makes it difficult to drive. Was told screen needs replacing too with this defect. There are many web reports of same issue with ford and they should be responsible for this repair

I received a recall letter in the mail July of 2022, I called several Ford dealerships and they informed me that they had not received the parts for this recall as of yet and I would just have to wait to receive the second letter in the mail. I have waited and waited and waited. This past weekend September 10, 2022, I was driving with my oldest and youngest children in the car when my vehicle went from drive to reverse. I was able to get the vehicle back in drive and continue to drive to our friends house. As i placed the car in park it registered in reverse I could not let go of the brake or I would start moving in reverse this scared me because my vehicle was not registering in park even though it was in park. My vehicle was turned off and still continued to register in reverse then drive then sport mode then in reverse again. I was able to get the vehicle in neutral after some time, but this frightened myself and my children. I called the Ford dealerships and Ford corporate for assistance in the matter and none were helpful as the parts will not be released until December of 2022. I am a single parent, who relies on my vehicle not only to transport myself and my children, but to transport us safely there. I have just gone into remission from having cancer and rely on my vehicle to go to important appointments and all the stress of this has a very real possibility of causing the cancer to come back. Ford has failed me in both categories.
My 2018 Ford Edge has 85k miles. Recently it began vibrating on startup even after the auto-shut off button was activated. The rough idle began interfering with my ability to maintain adequate attention on the road and created significant feelings of anxiety each at every braking. Vehicle check engine light would come on and then go off. On 8/26/22 vehicle was inspected by Beach Ford who completed a fuel injector treatment. After picking up vehicle the check engine light reappeared. Attempted to contact service agent by cell phone because dealership stated that was the only way to communicate but did not receive reply. Changed all spark plugs and coils due to code P0303. Check engine light still on so contacted Beach Ford again and on 9/9/22 they confirmed the issue as a coolant leak appearing on the “bulletin” as a commonly known defect for my vehicle. The dealership stated I would need a new engine and since the warranty only covers up to 60k miles I would have to pay the full price of over $7500. Any symptoms of a problem were immediately addressed by dealership within one week of onset each time. Dealership completed work on a recall 6/10/22 and mentioned nothing about the “known service defect” nor did they document completing any routine inspections out of courtesy since Ford had this information at that time and I (the unknowing consumer) did not.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving on an incline at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle went into Limp Mode and stalled. The coolant temperature warning light and the engine safe mode light illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the spark plugs and injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that he noticed light smoke coming from the exhaust and smelled a burning odor. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the lower engine block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that a portion of the cost for the repair would be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact's husband stated the coolant was low and the check engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact's husband stated he would add coolant fluid daily. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where she was informed the coolant was leaking into the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated the heating unit was blowing but failed to get warm. While driving and using the A/C unit, the vehicle would warm up. The defroster was inoperable. The check engine warning light was flashing on and off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant was entering the engine. The manufacturer was notified but no additional assistance was provided and referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owned a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while making a right turn at approximately 5-7 MPH, another vehicle coming from the left lane crashed into her driver's front side door, causing her vehicle to crash into a wall. The air bags deployed upon impact, and the driver's side knee air bag cut her right ankle and fractured it in half. The contact was transported by ambulance to the hospital and had emergency surgery on her right ankle. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the tow yard where it was deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,488.

2018 FORD EDGE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 22V-413.
We have 64,000 miles on this car. A p0303 code came on and took vehicle to ford. Mechanic said we need a new engine and quoted us $7,584. We were told that we're 4,000 over our warranty and the dealership and ford will not pay a cent toward repair. This is a well known issue with the 2.0 turbo engine. There are numerous accounts of this engine failing and still ford turns a blind eye. There is a t.s.b. #22-2229 and ford will not fix this. This needs to be addressed with ford and they need to pay for their failure. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel turned 45 and 90 degrees while the vehicle was going straight. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel and module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that there was no warranty coverage for the repair but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the coolant had leaked into cylinder #3, causing damage to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 115,000.
Coolant leaking into the engine which cracked the engine, need a new engine
My car needs a new engine. I got an oil change in March and everything was fine with the engine. Then in June a cloud of smoke came out of my tail pipe when I started the car, but since at this time the car had been sitting I thought this was the cause. A couple days later my check engine light came on and an indicator stating my coolant was hot when i was accelerating getting on the fwy. I checked the coolant and it below the minimum which was odd since i had gotten an oil change and topped off my fluids only a couple months before. I added coolant and the indicator and check engine light went off. My check engine light, another billow of smoke and my car stating my coolant was overheating happened again early July and I tool my vehicle in on July 18th to get looked at. It was inspected by a technician and was informed that it needed a new engine because the coolant leaked into the engine. It was inspected again by portfolio ins co and because I can’t find a receipt they will not fix it until I can. And Ford even though this is a common issue on my year make and model they will only cover it until 60,000 miles. I bought my car with 38,000 miles on it. It has been a month already and my car is still just sitting at the Ford dealership.
My vehicle is not listed under the recall 17S16(2) this is an expansion to recall 17V-427 yet my car has been sitting for 4 months at a FORD dealership because the TORQUE CONVERTOR that is not performing IS ON BACKORDER. Why is FORD being allowed to string me the consumer along until they decide that this is a big problem? I received a Service Notice (Customer Satisfaction Program 22N12 stating that they are aware of a problem with the flexplate, transmission fluid pump and Torque convertor but no RESOLUTION. I cannot AFFORD to keep making car payments for a car I cannot drive. I am beyond frustrated and FORD will not communicate with me.
I've bought a 2018 Ford Edge SEL July of 2021 at Zech Ford (Kansas), it had just a little over 50k miles, within the first month of ownership, engine light comes on (code P0301), I took to the dealership and they replaced the oxygen sensor, everything seemed fine since. This last May, the flex plate cracked, I took to Greenway Ford dealership (Florida) and paid $3,085.36 for the repair, within just an hour of having the car back, engine light comes on (P0301), I immediately took the car back, they kept the car for the weekend, replaced the stream O2 sensor and charged me $105.24, they only charged me for the part, they waived the labor fee since I just had a $3k repair. Now, 2 months later, engine light comes on again for the same code P0301, but this time I can hear liquid running through the dashboard and a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhausts, I popped the hood and see that the coolant container is virtually empty, so I’ve bought some and added to it, I took it back to Greenway Ford, left the car there and couple hours later they called me to let me know that the coolant leaked into the cylinder and tells me that my only option is to have the engine replaced at a cost of $8400! This is my only car, I still owe $22,700 and I do not have $8k to get it repaired! And the car has about 94k miles now,
Engine light came on. Vehicle brought to dealership. Needs new engine 75k miles. Due to "porous engine block". Extended warranty company will not fix because it is a "known manufacturing defect" ($8200) Codes pulled p0303 p0316 Ford is risking the safety of all who are driving these vehicles and those who may be on the road with one. The FIRE RISK associated with this KNOWN DEFECT needs to be addressed.
There is a crack in the engine block that is pulling coolant into the engine causing total engine failure. In addition there are carbon deposits in the coolant which means the exhaust is being pulled into the coolant/engine system. The first indicator of a problem was at 80k miles with rough idle and hesitation on acceleration. 2 engine check lights lead to replacing 'bad coils' and spark plugs. Then the car started to overheat and ran out of coolant. We replaced to coolant and it ran out again 3 weeks later. With no evidence of a coolant leak we knew there was a major problem and online research showed likely total engine failure. This has been confirmed by the dealer and requires a whole new engine long block ($9000 repair). Driving a car with a cracked engine block is dangerous to myself and others on the road. Luckily I figured out the problem myself before something happened while driving.
Vehicle started going through coolant with no signs of leaks anywhere. We took it to multiple mechanics and no one could find any coolant leaks. We were still putting coolant in every other week, again no signs of leaks anywhere but empty coolant tank. Turns out the coolant was going straight into the motor mixing with the oil causing it to slowly seize up. The repair shop it’s at told us this issue wasn’t preventative maintenance but a mechanical failure on Ford’s part and their 2.0 eco boost engines. According to some Ford forums this failure is common with the 2.0 eco boost motor. There’s also a class action lawsuit pending against Ford for this mechanical failure of theirs. This repair is nearly 10 thousand dollars (who has 10k for repairs?! we’re still making payments on the thing) This has put our family without our vehicle for quite some time. The slow breakdown of our 2018 vehicle has been frustrating and disappointing to say the least. This is a Ford mechanical failure and they need to be held financially accountable for a faulty product they know is failing.
Check engine light came on and I brought it in for diagnostic. I was told cylinder misfire and coolant is leaking into cylinder and damaged engine. I was told I need a new engine. I have 71k miles so I am outside of warranty. Both the dealer and independent repair shop I went to both told me the exact same diagnosis and that they have both been seeing this a lot with this 2.0 ecoboost engine. There should be a recall on this, not just a service bulletin when it’s a known issue with this engine. Engine replacement should not be happening on this year vehicle and with these low of miles (but just outside of warranty!)
Check engine light came on as well as a high coolant temperature. Took the car to the dealer and had it tested. Coolant is leaking into the middle cylinders. Will need a new engine.
Coolant intrusion into cylinder 2 due to design flaw.Ford is aware of the isssue and has a bulletin for techs to diagnose. This is the same issue happening with the escapes that ford has issued a recall for yet there has been nothing for the edge. My car is 4 years old and I have to pay out of pocket for a brand new engine because of course it is past the warrenty...
The seat belt on the driver's side front keeps getting locked up and won't release. I have to mess with the seat belt height adjuster to get it to work and sometimes it just doesn't which then makes my seat belt alert light and beep go off every few minutes. It's also against the law to go without my seat belt which is definitely an issue. I haven't even had this car for a year and I have not had any accidents nor did the car report I got when I purchased it state that there were any accidents on it.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 50-55 MPH and overtaking another vehicle, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle hesitated to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle the next day, the vehicle experienced a rough start. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the sparks plugs were replaced and the check engine warning light was reset. However, the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic where the check engine warning light was reset; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant was leaking into cylinder #2. The contact stated that the failure was associated with Ford Technical Service Bulletin Number: 19-2208. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train ) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. Vin tool confirms parts not available
Check Engine light came on in June of 2022 and the code was for a cylinder one misfire. Took the vehicle to dealership where they confirmed it is a known issue amongst this make, model, and year. They determined coolant was leaking into the engine and the only repair was replacement of the engine. They told us there was a bulletin issued by Ford for the problem but no recall. The engine had to have coolant replaced several times over a short period of time. The leak caused burn off of the coolant that in turn changes exhaust. The engine can overheat and cause larger damage because there is no indicator to alert or warn of low coolant. The issue poses an environmental and safety risk as the vehicle can shut off at random and reach temperatures that can cause a fire.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start up after several attempts, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the spark plugs and ignition coil packs were replaced; however, the failure persisted.
