TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ASCENDING A HILL AT 50 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE DOWN SHIFTED AND THE THROTTLE SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 12V353000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,528. UPDATED 08/27/13*LJ
I HAD ENTERED AN INTERSTATE FROM AN ON RAMP. I ACCELERATED TO GET VEHICLE UP TO SPEED AND SET THE CRUISE CONTROL. I APPROACHED A SHARP CURVED AND ATTEMPTED TO RELEASE THE SPEED CONTROL BY HITTING THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND CONTINUED TO STAY MOVING AT 55 MPH. I AVOIDED THE OUTSIDE LANE AND THE TRAFFIC THAT I WAS MERGING INTO BY GOING INTO THE MEDIAN. THE VEHICLE HIT AN ELEVATED MAN HOLE IN THE MEDIAN AND WENT AIRBORNE AND HIT A BRIDGE OVERPASS SUPPORT HEAD ON. I SUFFERED MULTIPLE FRACTURES DUE TO THE COLLISION. *TR
WHEN VEHICLE IS AT A STOP WITH THE BRAKES APPLIED AT EITHER A RED LIGHT, STOP SIGN, OR TRAFFIC, THE CAR JERKS TO MOVE FORWARD. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. FORD DEALERSHIP REPLACED AN ABS RING THAT WAS CRACKED. THEY SAID, THIS IS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD BECAUSE THE ABS IS TRYING TO ENGAGE. *TR
MY PCM HAS FAILED. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE ESCAPE FOR OVER 5 YEARS. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY ADJUSTMENT OR RECALL FOR THIS AS I KNOW OF MANY FAILURES. I ENTER MY COMPLAINT TO SEE IF IT WILL HELP OTHERS, AND PERHAPS INITIAL A RECALL AND A CREDIT FOR THIS VERY EXPENSE REPAIR. *TR
FIFTH TIME VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. VEHICLE IS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT OR IN TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD WITH THE BRAKES APPLIED. DAUGHTER TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND THEY THOUGHT THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. SHE WAS ON HER WAY BACK TO COLLEGE...4 MILES FROM THE HOUSE AT A RED LIGHT. SHE CALLED AND SAID THE VEHICLE WAS STILL DOING WHAT IT WAS DOING BEFORE. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND A RECALL ISSUED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE COLLAPSED AFTER EXPERIENCING A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. I JACKED UP THE VEHICLE TO INSPECT THE CAUSE AND DISCOVERED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE/SUSPENSION CRADLE WAS SUFFERED FROM ABNORMAL CORROSION THAT ALLOWED THE LOWER CONTROL ARM TO BECOME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS CONDITION IS NOT PRESENT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THEREFORE IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS IS A QUALITY ISSUE WITH THE COMPONENT THAT CAUSED A PREMATURE FAILURE AND A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS A FORD QUALITY ISSUE THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED THAT COULD CAUSE SEVERE INJURY AND DEATH. *TR
RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION CONTROL ARM NO LONGER SECURELY ATTACHED TO CAR FRAME BECAUSE CRADLE OR SUBFRAME RUSTED THRU. QUICK SEARCH ON INTERNET INDICATES THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE FOR 2001 - 2004. LEFT FRONT CRADLE THAT ATTACHES CONTROL ARM TO BODY IS GOOD. PERHAPS CONSTANT WATER DRIPPING FROM AIR CONDITIONER HAS CAUSED THAT AREA OF THE FRAME TO RUST. FORD DEALER CAN NOT FIND A SUPPLY OF SUBFRAME PART PERHAPS BECAUSE OF FREQUENCY OF RUST THRU FAILURE? *TR
DEAR SIRS, AS YOU ARE AWARE, THIS PAST WEEKEND ON THE SAN MATEO BRIDGE IN HAYWARD CA, A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT/FIRE OCCURRED WITH A LIMOUSINE, WHERE FIVE INDIVIDUALS WERE TRAPPED AND KILLED DUE TO A VEHICLE FIRE. UPON SEEING AND HEARING ABOUT THIS HORRIFIC TRAGEDY, MY WIFE INSISTED THAT WE HAVE ALL OF THE RECALLS PERFORMED ON OUR 2001 FORD ESCAPE. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, WHEN I TOOK OUR ESCAPE INTO FREMONT FORD ON MAY 7TH, [XXX], THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER, TOLD ME THAT HE WAS REFUSING TO PERFORM ALL OF THE RECALLS ON OUR TRUCK, BECAUSE THEY HAVE EXPIRED. AS THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND PRIMARY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE, PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW RECALLS INVOLVING SAFETY ISSUES EXPIRE? IS THIS A FORD COMPANY POLICY OR A FREMONT FORD DEALERSHIP/SERVICE POLICY? WHEN I PICKED UP OUR ESCAPE ON MAY 8TH FROM THE DEALERSHIP, I DOCUMENTED ON THE PAPERWORK THAT THEY REFUSED TO PERFORM THESE VERY IMPORTANT RECALLS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND FAILED TO SLOW DOWN, EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED NUMEROUS TIMES. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ITS REAR END CRASHED INTO A TREE. A FOUR YEAR OLD PASSENGER SEATED IN THE REAR WAS FATALLY INJURED DUE TO THE MASSIVE IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER LOST CONSCIOUSNESS AND SUFFERED A MINOR CONCUSSION. THE FRONT SEAT OCCUPANT SUSTAINED A SPINAL INJURY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A POLICE FACILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THREE RECALLS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 00V210001 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL), NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07E023000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V005000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE CONTACT NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF THE RECALLS AND EXPERIENCED THE CONSEQUENCES MENTIONED IN EACH RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2001 FORD ESCAPE XLT 3.0L V6 AWD - [XXX] DAUGHTER SITTING AT A RED LIGHT OR IN TRAFFIC WITH THE BRAKE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE TRIES TO MOVE FORWARD. SHE EXPLAINED IT AS JERKING FORWARD. THIS HAS HAPPEN ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITH HER. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN STRAIGHT TO SHEEHY FORD OF WARRENTON, VA DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND A CRACK ABS RING THAT THEY SAID WAS THE CAUSE FOR THE JERKING WHILE THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. REPLACED THE PART. EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING ON THE WAY HOME. RETURNED IT TO FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE NOT ABLE RECREATE THE PROBLEM SO THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE HAS A TOTAL OF 13 RECALLS ACCORDING TO AUTOMD.COM. ACCORDING TO FORD.COM WEBSITE, THIS VEHICLE HAS NO RECALLS LISTED. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. AFTER THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V165000 AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS LATER . I PURCHASED A 2001 FORD ESCAPE FROM COMMONWEALTH MOTORS IN RICHMOND, VA. AFTER PURCHASE THE DEALERSHIP WAS TO INSPECT AN ISSUE WITH THE REVERSE LIGHTS AS THEY WOULDN'T GO OUT. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT BACK I NOTICED A PIECE OF RUSTED METAL FELL FROM AROUND THE DOOR PANEL. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH & DISCOVERED MASSIVE CORROSION & RUSTED CROSSBARS, FRAMES, GAS TANK, SHOCKS, ETC. EVERYTHING UNDER THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTED. SO, I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE RUNS SO I SHOULD BE HAPPY. WELL, I FELT MY SAFETY WAS IN QUESTION SO I BEGAN SOME RESEARCH. WHAT I LEARNED WAS THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PURCHASED FROM "CARMAX" AS THE OWNER STATED, BUT THAT IT WAS PURCHASED FROM "CARMAX AUCTION". SO I CONTACTED THEM AND LUCKILY GOT A COPY OF THE BILL OF SALE. TO MY DISBELIEF THE BILL OF SALE STATES THIS VEHICLE HAS FRAME DAMAGE. SO I EQUIPPED WITH THIS BILL OF SALE, MET WITH THE OWNER AGAIN. HE SAID THE CAR DOESN'T HAVE A FRAME, THUS THIS WAS AN ERROR. HE WOULD NOT AGREE TO REASON AND TOLD ME I PURCHASED IT "AS IS". AS THE DAYS WENT ON MORE AND MORE BEGAN TO FALL APART. LESS THAN 60 DAYS AFTER PURCHASE, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED BECAUSE THE BRACE WAS RUSTED AWAY CAUSING THE COMPONENTS WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION TO CRACK SO I HAD TO GET IT REPLACED/REBUILT. MECHANIC SAYS THE TRANSMISSION WAS HANGING DOWN & AMAZED IT HADN'T FALLEN OUT. THE CORROSION WAS SO BAD HE HAD TO WELD A NEW BRACE TO HOLD THE NEW TRANSMISSION BUT IT IS WELDED TO THE FRONT BUMPER BAR BECAUSE NOTHING ELSE WILL SUPPORT ITS WEIGHT. THE SUBFRAME CRADLE CRACKED 2 DAYS BEFORE RECALL 14S02. I DON'T HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE SO I HAD TO GET IT FIXED. IS IT POSSIBLE OTHER PARTS ARE BUILT WITH THE SAME MATERIAL AS THE SUBFRAME? MY CAR IS LIKE A CAVITY THAT WAS LEFT UNTREATED. IT WAS PURCHASED IN OHIO WHERE IT RESIDED FOR YEARS. I FEEL LOST. I HAVE BEFORE AND AFTER PICS. *TR
VEHICLE HAD A RECENT RECALL 14S02. FORD INSTALLED A BRACKET TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE WHOLE CAR IS CORRODED. I RECENTLY HAD AN INSPECTION DONE AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION AS THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE REAR CONTROL ARMS. SO, I TOOK IT TO A FRAME SHOP TO LEARN THAT MY CAR SHOULD BE CONDEMNED. THAT THERE IS NO AMOUNT OF REPAIR THAT WILL FIX THIS. THAT IT IS BEYOND REPAIR AT THIS POINT AND I SHOULD NOT DRIVE IT. I WAS TOLD THAT PER THE RECENT RECALLS FOR CORROSION THIS SHOULD BE REPORTED. IT IS A DEFINITE DEFECT AND BASED ON THE YEAR OF THE VEHICLE THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. THEY SUGGESTED THAT SOMETHING MORE COMPLEX IS WRONG HERE. EVEN THE WORK PERFORMED BY FORD ISN'T GOING TO HOLD UP BECAUSE IT'S TOO BADLY RUSTED AND THERE'S NOTHING TO HOLD IT TOGETHER. *TR
MY CLIENT'S SON WAS DRIVING HIS VEHICLE ON CENTRAL AVENUE IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY MARYLAND AT NIGHTTIME WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK TO THE FLOOR. HE SWERVED ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO AVOID TRAFFIC AND HIS VEHICLE THEN STRUCK A BIKE RIDER THEN STRUCK THE MEDIAN CURB TOTALING THE VEHICLE. BOTH THE DRIVER AND BIKE RIDER SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT INJURIES. *TR

BRAKE HYDRAULIC FLUID RESERVOIR CAP LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. REPLACED WITH NEW CAP FROM DEALER, 100% FIXED PROBLEM. RETAINED OLD CAP IF INSPECTION NEEDED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE DOOR COULD ONLY BE OPENED FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A MECHANIC OR A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
WINDOW AND DOOR LOCK ON REAR DRIVER SIDE QUIT OPERATING CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO USE DUCT TAPE TO KEEP WINDOW IN PLACE AND DOOR CLOSED. THIS HAS NOW BEEN FIXED AT SUBSTANTIAL COST. NOW AM UNABLE TO USE EITHER DOOR ON PASSENGER SIDE. NO PROBLEM WITH WINDOWS AT THIS POINT, HOWEVER, AM UNABLE TO OPEN EITHER OF THE TWO DOORS. QUITE INCONVENIENT WITH OTHER PASSENGERS, PARTICULARLY WHERE THE FRONT SEAT IS INVOLVED...A LITTLE DIFFICULT CLIMBING OVER THE CONSOLE AREA FROM THE DRIVER SIDE TO GET TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AND VICE VERSA...BACK SEATING AREA NOT QUITE SO BAD...STILL INCONVENIENT. HAS THERE BEEN A RECALL REGARDING THIS AND/OR ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM? RIGHT NOW, THE EXPENSE TO REPAIR IS HONESTLY MORE THAN IT'S WORTH TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE...ANOTHER $400-500+. DOES MAKE IT PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT TO LOAD AND UNLOAD---ESPECIALLY THE CHILDREN! *TR
THE TWO PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. YOU CAN OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE BUT THE HANDLES ON THE OUTSIDE NO LONGER FUNCTION TO OPEN THE DOORS. IN ADDITION THE REAR HATCH HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN. MOST OF THE TIME THE HATCH CAN BE OPENED EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS LOCKED AND ON OCCASION THE HATCH WILL NOT OPEN FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. IT IS A MYSTERY AS TO WHEN IT IS GOING TO DO THIS. I COULD OPEN THE HATCH AND AN HOUR LATER NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN IT AT ALL. BECAUSE OF THIS ANYONE CAN GAIN ACCESS TO MY CAR AT ANY TIME IF THEY SO CHOSE. WHEN I CALLED FORD IN 2015 THEY TOLD ME I AM NOT PART OF ANY RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS CRASHED INTO ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED CUTS AND BRUISES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WEBBING WOULD SEIZE, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO EXTEND THE SEAT BELT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. AFTER DRIVING MY CAR WITHOUT INCIDENT FOR 6 YEARS, IT BEGAN TO INTERMITTENTLY LOSE POWER SO MUCH THAT THE DASH LIGHTS FADE AND THE CAR ALMOST STALLS. THIS IS WORSE AT LOWER SPEEDS, COASTING, AND IDLING. THE ENGINE MISSES OUT SO BADLY THAT THE CAR JERKS FORWARD IF THE BRAKE IS NOT PRESSED FIRMLY TO THE FLOOR AND WHEN IT'S WORST AT IDLE, IT SHAKES HORRIBLY. I HAD THE PLUGS REPLACED (NOT CHEAP) BECAUSE THAT WAS THE ERROR SHOWING WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FINALLY CAME ON SEVERAL WEEKS AFTER I STARTED HAVING THIS ISSUE, AND A MECHANIC HAD ALREADY LOOKED AT IT AND THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED. AFTER HAVING THE PLUGS REPLACED, I HAD A LOT FEWER PROBLEMS BUT COULD STILL TELL THERE WAS A PROBLEM WHEN IT WAS COLDER OUTSIDE AND/OR WHEN I FIRST STARTED MY CAR FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. IT THEN BEGAN TO GET WORSE AGAIN AND IS JUST AS BAD NOW AS IT WAS BEFORE I HAD THE PLUGS REPLACED. I DON'T WANT TO KEEP REPLACING THEM IF IT'S JUST GOING TO KEEP HAPPENING AGAIN. WHILE WAITING AT A RED LIGHT ON AN UPHILL INTERSECTION JUST LAST WEEK, I PRESSED THE GAS TO PULL THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND BARELY ANY POWER RESULTED. AFTER DRIVING FOR APPX 19 MILES, STOPPED AT MY DESTINATION AND PUT CAR IN PARK. ENGINE STARTED RACING TO APPX 3000-4000 RPM. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND NOTICE THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE APPEAR OUT OF PLACE. I TOOK THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE OFF OF THE THROTTLE CABLE AND TOOK THE CAR FOR A TEST DRIVE AROUND THE BLOCK AND IT APPEARED TO BE WORKING FINE. THEN I DROVE IT LATER THAT DAY AND THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE CAME OFF THE THROTTLE CABLE SO THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULDN'T WORK. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE REPORTED THAT THE PLASTIC PART ON THE GEAR SHIFT CONNECTING A CABLE TO THE TRANSMISSION HAD BROKEN. IN THE PAST, I REPORTED POPPING NOISE IN THE STEERING AND SQUEAKING WHEN TURNING WHEEL. AT THAT TIME, THE GEAR ASSEMBLY STEERING WAS REPLACED. THE POPPING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAPPENED AGAIN SHORTLY BEFORE THE GEAR SHIFT SEPARATED FROM THE STEERING COLUMN ON JUNE 7, 2012.

ON INSPECTION, FRONT LEFT BRAKE HOSE HAD RUPTURED CAUSING TOTAL LOSS OF ALL BRAKING CAPABILITY. EXTREMELY LUCKY NOT TO BE GOING 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY! STILL WAITING FOR PART FOR BRAKE CYLINDER CAP RECALL ISSUED IN JANUARY! IF NHTSA ARE GOING TO REQUIRE COMPANIES TO ISSUE RECALLS PERHAPS YOU SHOULD ALSO FOLLOW UP TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE BY WHICH I MEAN THE SATISFACTORY COMPLETION OF THE RECALL NOT SIMPLY THE ISSUING THEREOF. *TR
2001 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SAFETY RECALL 11S24 *TGW EVEN THOUGH THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE, SHE WAS INFORMED THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE, AND THE DEALER HAD NO IDEA WHEN THEY WOULD RECEIVE THEM. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONLY THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR COULD BE UNLOCKED. THE REMAINING THREE DOORS ON THE VEHICLE HAD FAILED INSIDE AND OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
