DRIVING ABOUT 25MPH HEAR A LOUD CLUNCK LOST CONTROLL OF VEHICLE BREAK PEDLE TO THE FLOOR TRUCK STILL MOVING HAD TO USE ER BRAKE TO STOP. GOT OUT PASSANGER FRONT TIRE WAS TURNED COMPLETLY DIFF WAY, THE BALL BEARER WAS DETACHED, THIS COULD HAVE KILLED ME IF I WAS ON FREEWAY! CALLED FORD THEY CONTINUED TO TELL ME THIS WASNT PART OF RECALL CALLED MEHCANIC SAID THE SUBFRAME SO RUSTED IT HAS COMPLETLY DETACHED FROM BALL BEARERS CAUSING TIRE TO BASICALLY FALL OFF. FORD WILL NOT FIX IT, GAVE ME EVERY OTHER ALTERNITIVE ON WHAT IT COULD BE. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE, FORD WONT HAVE IT TOWED TO THE LOT TO LOOK AT IT AND ON TOP OF THAT WONT SEE IT FOR A WEEK IF I DO GET IT TOWED UP THERE! WHAT A MESS. ILL NEVER SHOP WITH THEM AGAIN. THEY WONT CARE UNTIL THIS KILLS SOMEONE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE WHEEL BEARING COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE, WHICH RESULTED IN THE WHEEL DETACHING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT CORROSION FROM THE SUBFRAME CAUSED THE WHEEL BEARING TO DETACH AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
THE AIR BAG READINESS SYSTEM ON THE CAR IS TROUBLING. THE RED LIGHT INDICATOR ON THE DASH EITHER FLASHES, OR REMAINS ON. THE MANUAL SAYS THE SYSTEM SHOULD BE SERVICED IMMEDIATELY. I CALLED A LOCAL FORD DEALER IN MY TOWN AND THEY SAY THEY WON'T PAY FOR IT. HAVE THERE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE MAKE/MODEL/ YEAR? SINCE IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, WOULDN'T THE MANUFACTURER BE REQUIRED TO FIX IT?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, A STRANGE NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY VEERED TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUBFRAME FRACTURED DUE TO SEVERE RUSTING AND CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V165000 (STRUCTURE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. MA 10/2 *CN
ON 4/10/2014, I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT WHEN I LET MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR SHOWED NO SIGNS OF SLOWING...AS IF I WAS STILL ACCELERATING. I HAD TO USE THE BRAKE TO MAKE THE CAR SLOW DOWN. ON 4/12/2015, I WAS PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND LET MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL TO COAST TO THE PARKING POSITION, WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, AND I ALMOST HIT OUR FENCE. THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ACCELERATION SYSTEM. *TR
THE ACCELERATOR CABLE APPEARS TO HAVE GONE OUT. THE GAS PEDAL GOES DIRECTLY TO THE FLOOR AND THE ENGINE IS AT 6RPM'S. CALLED FORD AND EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD NEARLY 500K CARS RECALLED DURING THE EXACT YEAR MY CAR WAS BUILT THEY WILL NOT CLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. IN THE MEANTIME MY TWO CHILDREN WERE HURT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T ACCELERATOR ON TO THE HIGHWAY AND THEN HAD TO SHUT OFF THE CAR. FORDS SOLUTION WAS FOR ME TO TAKE MY CAR TO THEIR DEALERSHIP AND PAY THEM TO FIX MY VEHICLE, BUT TO KEEP THE RECEIPTS JUST IN CASE THEY ARE "FORCED" TO REIMBURSE ME FOR MY COSTS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHIFT GEAR STICK DISENGAGED FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND THE SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V606000 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE DEALER WAS TO INSTALL A NEWLY DESIGNED REINFORCEMENT CROSS-BRACE FOR THE UNINTENDED DETACHMENT OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM. A SHORT TIME AFTER THE REPAIR, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ANOTHER SERVICE, WHO NOTICED THAT THE BALL JOINT WAS SEPARATED FROM THE CONTROL ARM AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 152,000.

THE ENGINE WAS NOT TURNED ON AND THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2015, BACK PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE, ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO SAME THING AS HAPPENED TO THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, NEED IT FIXED.
THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE AND IS STUCK IN THE LOCK POSITION. UNABLE TO OPEN DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE OR THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED IN THE PAST SINCE I NOTICED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET OR YOUR NHTSA WEBSITE. THE FORD DEALER SERVICE MANAGER ALSO MENTIONED TO ME THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED IN THE PAST BY FORD. SERVICE FEE IS $500 IF THE REPAIRMAN IS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR WITHOUT BREAKING IT AS SOMETIMES IT DOES BREAK CAUSING AN EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR JOB FOR A JAMMED LOCKING MECHANISM THAT SHOULD EASILY BE WORKING PROPERLY. GOD FORBID I AM INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND MY WIFE, OTHER FRONT PASSENGER OR MYSELF IS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. THIS IS A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE AS ANY PASSENGER THAT WANTS TO SIT IN THE FRONT HAS TO LEAP THROUGH THE DRIVER DOOR TO SIT IN THE FRONT. MY WIFE IS THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS CAR AND IT CURRENTLY HAS 130,000 MILES. ALL CAR DOORS SHOULD BE ABLE TO WORK WITHOUT JAMMING AS THIS OBVIOUSLY POSES A SAFETY ISSUE. WHY NHTSA HAS NEVER BOTHERED TO ESCALATE THIS PROBLEM TO A RECALL IS BEYOND ME WHEN THERE ARE OTHER FORD ESCAPE OWNERS WITH THE SAME SAFETY PROBLEM? PLEASE ADVICE, THANKS.

THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BRUISED HEAD AND FRACTURED THUMB THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I WAS DRIVING MY FORD ESCAPE 2002 OUT OF TOWN, I NOTICED MY CAR PULLING AWAY FROM ME. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE THROTTLE AND NOTICED THE THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING. I KNEW A STOP SIGN AND A HIGHWAY WAS UP AHEAD, AFTER BLOWING THREW THE STOP SIGN ONLY BEING ABLE TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN TO 20 WITH THE BRAKES, I PULLED THE E-BRAKE AND STILL DID NOT STOP, AFRAID AND SCARED I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, THE CAR THEN SNAPPED AND WENT INTO REVERSE AND THE ONLY THING I COULD DO WAS AIM FOR A POLE AND HIT IT. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND IT WAS STILL GOING WITH THE ENGINE SMOKING, FEARING OF A FIRE I SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN. *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY ACCELERATED, HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HI, BECAUSE HIS FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, THE CRASH WAS NOT AS VIOLENT AS IT COULD HAVE BEEN. TWO OF THE PASSENGERS IN THE OTHER VEHICLE WENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH SHOULDER INJURIES. THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS DECLARED TOTALED. *JB
DRIVING THE VEHICLE DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET. APPLIED THE BRAKES, PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. CAR ROLLED TO A STOP WITH LIMITED BRAKING. PLACED INTO PARK AND HAD PASSENGER PUMP BRAKES. FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE HOSE ADJACENT TO THE CALIPER HAD RUPTURED. SAW ONLINE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 1ST GENERATION FORD ESCAPES. COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC! *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2002 FORD ESCAPE IN FEB. 2015. SINCE THEN OFTEN WHEN I PUT IT IN PARK IT REVS, THE RPMS RANGE FROM 1500-3000. I READ THAT A RECALL WAS DECLARED IN DECEMBER OF 2004. MY CAR IDLES AT A HIGH RANGE.
WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, I NOTICED THE VEHICLE'S STEERING SEEMED LOOSE & THERE WAS A CREAKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT END. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO PULL TO THE RIGHT AS I DROVE DOWN THE ROAD, AND CREAKING NOISE INCREASED. I DROVE DIRECTLY TO DEALER WHERE I'D HAD THE WORK FOR RECALL 14V165000 COMPLETED ONLY 4 WEEKS PRIOR (26 DEC 2014), AND THEIR ASSESSMENT WAS A CRACKED SUBFRAME. SERVICE WRITER INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, AND THE COST TO REPAIR WOULD BE A MINIMUM OF $2000 IN PARTS AND LABOR, PLUS THE LIKELIHOOD OF ADDITIONAL REPAIRS NEEDED ONCE THEY FOUND OTHER CORRODED PARTS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. I DECLINED THE REPAIR AND PURCHASED A NEW CAR (NOT A FORD) INSTEAD. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V005000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE THE RECALL NOTICE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SURPASSED THE STATUE OF LIMITATIONS FOR THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 196,000.

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE CROSS MEMBER WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY 2002 FORD ESCAPE HAS BEEN TO MULTIPLE DEALER SERVICE CENTERS AND MECHANICS TO TRY TO PINPOINT A BANGING NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPS OR POTHOLES AT LOWER SPEEDS. TO DATE I HAVE HAD TIE RODS, SWAY BARS, SWAY BAR LINKS, BALL JOINTS REPLACED AND ALL BODY MOUNTS, ENGINE MOUNTS, CONTROL ARMS, SHOCKS AND STRUTS ALL CHECKED AND ALL NUTS AND BOLTS TIGHTENED. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO HAVE A MECHANIC TELL ME WHAT THE ISSUE IS. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND SEE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I KNOW MY TRUCK IS NOT THE ONLY ONE, HOWEVER I CANNOT AFFORD TO CONTINUE REPLACING PARTS IN HOPES THAT WE MIGHT FINALLY FIND THE CAUSE OF THE SOUND. I FEEL FORD NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHATEVER IT IS THAT IS FAILING BEFORE SOMEONE ENDS UP SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TOWARDS A CROSSING AND THE LIGHT WAS RED. I TRIED TO STOP, BUT INSTEAD IT ACCELERATED ON APPLYING THE BRAKES AND T-BONED A CAR ON THE CROSSING. THE BRAKES ON THIS CAR WERE SERVICED A FEW TIMES IN THE PAST AND THE COMPLETE HISTORY IS AVAILABLE AT THE DEALER....UPDATED 04/02/15 *BF
NEIGHBOR WOKE ME SAYING MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. CAR WASN'T ON, THE KEY WAS NOT IN, AND IT HAD SAT OVERNIGHT. CALLED FIRE DEPARTMENT AND FIRE PUT OUT. CAR IS TOTALED BECAUSE THE FIREMEN HAD TO BREAK INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ENGINE AREA BURNED WITH NOTHING BUT METAL VISIBLE AND A MELTED BATTERY. I HAVE PICTURES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUB FRAME AND THE CONTROL ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.

AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THERE WAS RUST ON THE FRONT END OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND THE SUBFRAME. ALSO, THE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO REPLACED THE FRONT LOWER CROSS MEMBER AND THE FRONT SUBFRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V165000 (STRUCTURE: BODY). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,145. FUEL TANK STRAP HAS CORRODED AND BROKEN AND THE FUEL TANK COULD FALL OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND RESULT IN A FUEL SPILL AND/OR FIRE. THERE IS ALSO A RUST HOLE IN THE FUEL TANK METAL PROTECTIVE COVER THE SIZE OF MY HAND AND THE FUEL CELL IS EXPOSED. DRIVING DOWN A BUSY HIGHWAY, OUR ESCAPE HAD THE CONTROL ARM DETACH FROM THE SUB FRAME. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD US THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER ANY RECALL BY FORD BECAUSE IT HAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED. DESPITE THAT THE DAMAGED AREA OF THE CAR BEING WHAT IS RECALLED IN 14V165000. FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO HELP THIS ISSUE. LUCKY ENOUGH THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, BUT THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH ON UNEVEN PAVEMENT, THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY TURNED APPROXIMATELY 45 DEGREES TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED, WHICH CAUSED THE LOWER CONTROL ARM TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,900.
ON AUGUST 26, 2014, I WENT TO FAIR OAKS FORD LINCOLN DEALERSHIP SERVICE IN NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS FOR SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 14S02 / NHTSA RECALL 14V-165 REPAIRS, AND I ASKED THEM TO CHECK AN ISSUE WHERE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THERE IS A SCRAPING/GRINDING NOISE, FOLLOWED BY A KNOCKING NOISE, WHICH CAN AFFECT RELIABLE STOPPING AND THE VEHICLE STEERING STABILITY. SAFETY RECALL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, THEN IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE MECHANIC "PUSHED BACK" THE VACUUM PLATE COVER FOR THE ROTOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE TO RESOLVE THE SCRAPING/GRINDING/KNOCKING ISSUE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE ISSUE WITH THE BRAKING ACTION AND SUBSEQUENT NOISES AND RESPONSE OF VEHICLE EXHIBITED ITSELF AGAIN BY THE SECOND STOPLIGHT AWAY FROM THE FAIR OAKS FORD DEALER LOCATION. TWO DAYS LATER, ON AUGUST 28, 2014, I TOOK MY 2002 FORD ESCAPE TO GEARHEAD AUTO SALES & REPAIR IN GLEN ELLYN, ILLINOIS FOR AN INSPECTION AND REPAIR COST ESTIMATE. ON THE LIFT, THE ISSUE WAS APPARENT TO THE MECHANIC AT GEARHEAD TO BE THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE BEING FAULTY, AND HE REPLACED THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE, WITH BOOTS, CLAMPS AND GREASE. MY ISSUE IS THAT THE FORD DEALER MECHANIC INSPECTED AND REPAIRED MY VEHICLE FOR THE FORD SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 14S02 / NHTSA RECALL 14V-165 IN THE SAME PROXIMITY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS ON THE LIFT, BUT HE FAILED TO FIND AND REPORT THE EASILY SEEN FAULTY RIGHT FRONT AXLE PROBLEM THE GEARHEAD MECHANIC PROMPTLY REPORTED TO ME. INSTEAD, THE FORD REPRESENTATIVE FALSELY POINTED TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT BRAKE ROTOR VACUUM PLATE BEING OUT OF PLACE AS BEING THE ISSUE CAUSING THE SCRAPING/GRINDING/KNOCKING NOISE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. IS THERE ANY TIE TO THE "CORROSION-RELATED SEPARATION" SAFETY RECALL ISSUE THAT LED TO THE FAULTY RIGHT FRONT AXLE CONDITION? SINCE MY UNEMPLOYMENT OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS, MY FORD ESCAPE HAS RARELY BEEN DRIVEN, AND ONLY IN MY LOCAL AREA. *TR

WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AT 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED BACKWARDS OVER A CURB AND CRASHED INTO AN ELECTRICAL POLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BY AN INSURANCE ADJUSTOR AND AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CONTINUALLY ILLUMINATES; CABLE COUPLING UNDER PASSENGER SEAT DOES NOT COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT WHICH TRIGGERS THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT. THIS CONDITION OCCURS IN ALL WEATHER AND DRIVING CONDITIONS.

VEHICLE SUB-FRAME FAILED DUE TO CORROSION CAUSING SEPARATION OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM RESULTING IN DIMINISHED STEERING CONTROL. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE COVERED BY FORD SAFETY RECALL 14S02 AND NHTSA RECALL 14V-166 THAT PROVIDED A REINFORCEMENT OF THE SUB-FRAME. UNFORTUNATELY THE REINFORCING PARTS NECESSARY FOR THE RECALL ACTION WERE NOT IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE BEFORE THE FRAME FAILED. *TR
LOST BRAKES SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING; MANAGED TO CONTROL STOP WITH PARKING BRAKE. MECHANIC SAYS RIGHT FRONT BRAKE HOSE BROKE. HE MENTIONED THAT HOSE LINES ARE TOO SHORT IN THIS MODEL AND TEND TO CRACK AND BREAK, ESPECIALLY WHEN WHEEL FULLY TURNED, STRETCHING HOSE. ALL OTHER BRAKE LINES ARE CRACKED AND MUST BE REPLACED TO AVOID SAME ISSUE. MECHANIC REPORTS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN FORD ESCAPES AND AN INTERNET SEARCH RETURNED MULTIPLE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT SAME ISSUES, BUT NO RECALL OR WARNINGS ISSUED. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE THRESHOLD FOR RECALLS IS, BUT MY BRAKES WENT OUT JUST WHEN I WAS LEAVING A CROWDED GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT. TOOK MY ESCAPE IN TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR OF SAFETY RECALL 14V-165. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE CORROSION ON THE SUBFRAME AND ENGINE CRADLE WAS MORE EXTENSIVE THAN WHAT THE RECALL HAS EVER DEALT WITH AND THAT THE INSTALLATION OF JUST THE REINFORCEMENT CROSSBRACE ON THE SUBFRAME WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM ONLY "BANDAID" IT. THE CORROSION IS SO BAD THE PART IS GOING TO BREAK UNDER ANY DRIVING CONDITIONS AND CAN THEREFORE CAUSE A CRASH. SO NOW I HAVE CALLED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO DISPUTE THE PROBLEM TO BE FIXED PROPERLY BUT THEY DENIED MY CLAIM AND I AM THEREFORE STILL WITHOUT A VEHICLE TO DRIVE BECAUSE MINE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

RETURNING HOME FROM VACATION. HEARD SOMETHING BUMP UNDER THE VEHICLE, SLOWED DOWN, SAW THE ENGINE LIGHT COME ON, THEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO SPUTTER, RUMBLE, RUN ROUGH. GOT OFF THE FREEWAY. CALLED FOR SERVICE, WAS TOWED TO GARAGE. MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT A SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM THE ENGINE, AND THAT A 2ND SPARK PLUG WAS PROBABLY GOING TO DO THE SAME THING. FOR THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF THE ABS WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN ILLUMINATED. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE LATEST RECALL FIXED REGARDING THE RESERVOIR CAP. FORD COULDN'T GET THE ABS WARNING LIGHT TO TURN OFF...SO, HENCE THE LIGHT STILL INTERMIDANTLY COMES ON AND OFF. ALSO, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON WHEN I START MY CAR AND WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN. I JUST HAD MY MECHANIC CHANGE THE OIL A WEEK AGO AND AND STILL HAVING THE PROBLEM. ONE LAST THING, THE AIR BAG ILLUMINATION LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO TURN OFF. AM I SAFE IN THINKING THAT MY AIR BAG WON'T DEPLOY JUST FOR THE HECK OF IT? NOT SURE WHAT TO DO? BUT IT SCARES ME.
