Vehicle will stop running instantaneously. car will restart after several seconds. No engine warning light so there are no codes to read. The frequency had increased from every few days, but now happens every time you drive.

The contact stated that the vehicle then lost motive power and stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over on the side of the roadway. The contact stated that there was smoke coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off and the smoking ceased. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that a spring inside the piston was fractured and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure but provided no additional assistance. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 107,573. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact replaced the camshaft sensor himself; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the camshaft sensor and another unknown sensor had been previously replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
Escape bogs down in 1st gear and barely goes. I have almost been hit multiple times because of this. No engine lights are on.
I NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP AND I ADDED FLUID ONCE. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I NOTICED TRANSMISSION FLUID INSIDE THE ENGINE BAY LIKE IT HAS BEEN SPRAYING. I DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS VEHICLE TO HAVE A TRANSMISSION COOLER LEAK AND OTHERS HAD IT FIXED UNDER RECALL FOR 2008. THIS IS A ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE.
THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASH COMES ON AND THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY STALL WHILE I AM DRIVING IT. IT JUST SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT WARNING--NO ENGINE PROBLEMS APPARENT, LIKE SPUTTERING OR ANY OTHER WARNING SIGN. IT IS SCARY, AS I HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR-ENDED TWICE. I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND START IT, AND IT STARTS AGAIN WITHOUT A PROBLEM, BUT IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE NOT HAD THE ISSUE RESOLVED BY A MECHANIC.
2009 FORD ESCAPE, 3.0L XLT. VEHICLE ENGINE POWER LOST AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, ON SEPT 7, 2018. A RED WRENCH LIGHT FLASHED ON THE DASH DURING THE EVENT. WAS ABLE TO AVOID TRAFFIC, PARK ON THE SHOULDER, RESTART THE VEHICLE, AND DRIVE AT NORMAL SPEED TO THE NEAREST EXIT. THIS SAME POWER LOSS HAS OCCURRED AT NORMAL DRIVING SPEED TWO MORE TIMES AFTER THE HIGHWAY EVENT. THERE ARE NO ENGINE CODES FOUND AFTER DIAGNOSTIC CHECK BY LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER BEING DRIVEN ON HIGHWAYS. THIS ESCAPE WAS DIAGNOSED BY FORD DEALER IN 2017 FOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03 REGARDING THROTTLE BODY FAILURES. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND NO ISSUES WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AT THAT TIME.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NORTHSIDE FORD LINCOLN DEALER (LOCATED AT 1312 NORTH KELLER DR, EFFINGHAM, IL 62401, PHONE NUMBER: (217) 342-3929) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED AT NORTHSIDE FORD LINCOLN DEALER FOR THE SAME FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,200.
WAS DRIVING ON I80 IN TRAFFIC, WITH THE TRAFFIC SPEEDS WERE ROUGHLY 35 MPH. AFTER A SHORT PERIOD IN TRAFFIC, WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE I NOTED THAT THE ENGINE HAD DIED. THIS LEFT ME UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OR DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN BREAK OR CRUISE IN A VERY BUSY INTERSTATE. I THEN STOPPED THE CAR, PUT IT IN PARK, CYCLED THE KEY, THE ENGINE FIRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THE 10 MILE DRIVE HOME. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SCENARIO. AND HONESTLY IT PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE A BIG DEAL BUT THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THIS VEHICLE IN THE PAST AND IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON FORD'S IN GENERAL. THIS HAPPENED WITH THE SAME VEHICLE ROUGHLY 10 TIMES IN 2013. THE ENGINE WOULD UNEXPECTEDLY TURN OFF, SOMETIMES ON THE INTERSTATE, SOMETIMES IN MY WORK PARKING LOT, SOMETIMES ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. HIGHLY UNPREDICTABLE IN TERMS OF THE SPEED OR DRIVING CONDITIONS. AT THE TIME, FORD REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND EVENTUALLY RE-IMBURSED ME ONCE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY CAME OUT. THE ISSUE HAD NOT OCCURRED SINCE THEN TIL TODAY. I SUSPECT THE THROTTLE BODY IS AT FAULT AGAIN, WITH A 95% CONFIDENCE. WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE SHOP TO CONFIRM. THIS FAILURE MODE IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND HAS BEEN RECALLED ON 2005-2009 MARINERS AND ESCAPES. THE FAILURE MODE OF LOSING POWER ON A CONGESTED TRAFFICWAY IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND EXTREMELY FORSEEABLE BOTH FOR NHTSA AND FORD. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE RECALLED, NOT ADDRESSED VIA AN EXTENDED WARRANTY.

ONCE RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-678-7986 AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THIS HAPPENS IN ALL CONDITIONS. ENGINE WILL LOSE POWER AND START STUTTERING LIKE IT IS MISSING. EXHAUST WILL STINK AND DARKEN ENOUGH SO THAT IT IS VISIBLE. ACCELERATOR WILL NOT WORK AS NORMAL. VEHICLE WILL EVENTUALLY STALL AS SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON. FUEL PUMP REPLACED TWICE IN 2 DAYS. MECHANICS FIND NO CODES STORED. THROTTLE BODY REPLACED UNDER FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM. IT REOCCURRED THE NEXT DAY. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED. THE VEHICLE WILL SLOW AND STALL SUDDENLY AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING AROUND 40 MILES PER HOUR ON OUR WAY TO DINNER, THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. WE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL HAD NO EFFECT WHATSOEVER (STEERING AND THE BRAKES WORKED). WE TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED A MINUTE, THEN TURNED THE CAR BACK ON. IT RESTARTED WITH SOME DIFFICULTY, BUT THEN WE WERE ABLE TO RESUME DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 30-40 MILES PER HOUR, THE SAME EVENT HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES ON THE WAY TO DINNER. THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED 2 MORE TIMES AS WE DROVE HOME FROM DINNER. THIS WAS THE FIRST DAY WE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS SEVERE AND WE WERE DRIVING DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I CONSIDERED THE CAR EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE THE NEXT DAY. FORD CONFIRMED THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED REPLACING.
STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT AT A HIGHWAY INTERSECTION WITH AN INTERSTATE OFF RAMP ON JULY 26, 2016. NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE HAD STOPPED/SHUTOFF ON ITS OWN. PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK AND IT RESTARTED AS NORMAL AND CONTINUED ON WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEM. THERE WAS NO ENGINE LIGHT OR CLUE AS TO WHAT HAPPENED. SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO OTHER COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET RE THROTTLE BODY OR CAM OR CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSORS.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, EITHER WHILE STOPPED OR DURING ACCELERATION AFTER A STOP THE ENGINE STALLS. SOMETIMES ON CITY STREETS AND TWICE ON A FREEWAY ONRAMP WAITING FOR THE METERING LIGHT. THE DEALER HAS SAID ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THAT THEY CAN'T "REPRODUCE" THE PROBLEM SO THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.
TAKATA RECALL WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH, MY 09 FORD ESCAPE COMPLETELY SLOWED DOWN ON ME. I PUSHED ON THE GAS TO MAKE THE CAR SPEED BACK UP BUT WAS UNABLE TO. I WENT FROM 60 TO 30 MPH IN A VERY SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. I WAS LUCKILY COMING UP TO A SPEED ZONE OF 45 MPH, BUT I COASTED UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE HIGHWAY. I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND MY RPM CONTINUED GOING UP AND DOWN. I EVENTUALLY TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE. I THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND DROVE UNDER 45 MPH THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. IT WAS VERY SCARY AS I HAD MY TWO CHILDREN IN THE CAR.
