I AM A HOMEHEALTH NURSE, I WORK IN A VERY MOUNTAINOUS, RURAL AREA WHERE I DO NOT EVEN HAVE CELLPHONE SERVICE. I WAS ON A VERY NARROW, CURVY ROAD, WHEN THE CAR JUST QUIT ACCELERATING, THE SMALL WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASH, I WAS ABLE TO COAST FAR ENOUGH TO GET TO A WIDE SPOT WHERE I COULD GET THE VEHICLE SAFELY OUT OF THE ROAD, BARELY MISSING AN 18 WHEEL COAL TRUCK FROM HITTING ME. THERE WAS NO WARNING, THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE ALL DAY AND THEN IT JUST QUIT. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IT AND AGAIN THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FINALLY CAME ON. THE NICEST PERSON IN THE WORLD HELP ME AND HE WAS ABLE TO DETECT THE PROBLEM WITH HIS COMPUTER AND HE WAS ABLE TO ADJUST THE THROTTLE INTO THE CLOSED POSITION AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME WITHOUT ANYMORE PROBLEMS. I THEN TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED BEFORE I DID GET KILLED IF THIS WAS TO HAPPEN AGAIN. I DO WISH FORD WOULD JUST GET THIS PART RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET KILLED. *TR
I HAD MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE PARKED IN MY GARAGE AT MY HOUSE AND I OPENED MY REAR LIFT GATE TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF THE BACK. WHEN I SHUT THE LIFT GATE LIKE NORMAL THE GLASS EXPLODED ALL OVER. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE REAR THAT CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE GLASS OR LIFT GATE TO CAUSE IT TO EXPLODE OR SHATTER IN ANYWAY. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE ONLY GOTTEN A MINOR CUT FROM THE GLASS SHARD IF I WAS STANDING SOMEWHERE ELSE I COULD HAVE GOTTEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 60 TO 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY AND I STEPPED ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE PAST ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN I VERY SUDDENLY LOST ALL ACCELERATION. I HAD TO GLIDE ACROSS 3 LANES OF HEAVY TRAFFIC TO TRY TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THE CAR IDLED A LITTLE ROUGH, I TURNED IT OFF AND WHEN I STARTED IT AGAIN IT RAN FINE AND THE ACCELERATOR WORKED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS EVENT AND SHOULD DEFINITELY BE LOOKED INTO. *TR
WHILE DRIVING FROM CENTRAL FL TO ASHEVILLE, NC. MY 3.0 LITR ESCAPE BASICALLY LOST ALL POWER A TOTAL OF 6 DIFFERENT TIMES ON INTERSTATES 95 AND 26 BETWEEN SAVANNAH, GA AND COLUMBIA, SC. DRIVING ALONG AT POSTED HIGHWAY SPEED LIMIT, ENGINE WOULD UNEXPECTEDLY START LOSING POWER AND EVENTUALLY COME TO A STOP IN THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE TACHOMETER INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AT ABOUT 1000 RPM, BUT IT WOULD NOT TAKE AND THOTTLE AND BARELY MOVE. SWITCHING THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING, RESET SOMETHING AND ALLOWED ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING NORMALLY BUT ONLY FOR ABOUT 20 MILES BEFORE DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. THIS WAS A SATURDAY ABOUT NOON AND CALLING SEVERAL FORD DEALERS WAS USELESS AS MOST SAID THEY WERE GETTING READY TO CLOSE, OR COULD NOT LOOK AT IT UNTIL MONDAY. NOT WANTING TO RUIN OUR VACATION, WE TRIED TO CONTINUE WITH THE ABOVE SCENARIO REPEATING ITSELF AT LEAST 6 MORE TIMES, EACH TIME GETTING MORE AND MORE DANGEROUS, AS TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AND EACH TIME THE ENGINE WOULD LOSE POWER INSTANTLY AND ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS BEFORE WE COULD GET OFF THE ROAD INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. FINALLY CALLED A FORD DEALER IN COLUMBIA, SC THAT WAS OPEN TILL 4PM. AND SAID THEY COULD CHECK IT OUT. MADE IT THERE AT 3:30 PM AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE TROUBLE AS A CODE P2111 THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN. THEY HAD THE PART IN STOCK AND $326 LATER WE WERE ON OUR WAY. VEHICLE ONLY HAD 41K MILES. INTERNET RESEARCH HAS REVEALED SEVERAL HUNDRED COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME EXACT TROUBLE HAPPENING TO THEM. THERE IS EVEN A YOUTUBE VIDEO SHOWING THIS DESCRIBED TROUBLE ACTUALLY TAKING PLACE, AFTER A FRUSTRATED DRIVER COULD NOT GET ANY FORD DEALER TO RECREATE THE TROUBLE AND TAKE CARE OF IT, HE VIDEOD IT ACUTALLY HAPPENING. MY CALLS TO FORD MOTOR CO CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND MY EMAILS WERE A WASTE OF TIME. FORD IS IGNORING A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT WILL GET THEM MANY LAWSUITS I AM SURE. FORD NEEDS A RECALL NOW! *TR
AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS ON SATURDAY MORNING ON THE INTERSTATE I WAS DRIVING IN CITY TRAFFIC. I MADE A RIGHT TURN FROM A STOPPED POSITION. AS I ACCELERATED THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND ACTED LIKE IT WAS NOT IN GEAR. THE DASHBOARD WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD NO RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDDLE AND THE IDLE WAS EXTREMELY ROUGH. I COASTED TO A STOP AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. AFTER READING IN THE MANUAL ABOUT THE LIGHT (POWER TRAIN ISSUE) I CALLED AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY DEALER FOR SERVICE. AS IT WAS SATURDAY I HAD TO WAIT FOR SERVICE UNTIL MONDAY. MONDAY MORNING I RENTED A VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER. ON THURSDAY, 10/25/12, MY VEHICLE WAS READY FOR PICKUP. WHEN I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE ADVISER I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STICKING FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON AND THEY REPLACED IT. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS NOT A POWER TRAIN ISSUE, BUT IT WAS AN EMISSIONS ISSUE. THEY ALSO SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. ACCORDING TO MY SERVICE TICKET THEY ALSO CHARGED ME AN ADDITIONAL $170 ON A MISCELLANEOUS ITEM. ON 11/12/12 THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE IN THE MORNING. I DROVE IT TO MY DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE THAT HAD A LEAK. THIS WAS ALSO NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
DRIVING IN TRAFFIC SLOWED TO TURN LEFT ACROSS RAILROAD TRACKS AND CAR DIED. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE GAS PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR BUT CAR CRAWLED SLOWLY TO WHERE WE COULD PULL OFF ROAD. DISCONNECTED AND RECONNECTED BATTERY, CAR STARTED RAN 1 MILE STOPPED AGAIN. FRIEND CLEARED ELECTRONIC ERROR CODE WITH TESTER AND CAR HAS RUN OK UNTIL RECENTLY WHEN BACK GATE WILL NOT OPEN UNTIL ERROR CODE WAS CLEARED BY CAR DEALER. AFTER CAR SLOWING INCIDENT OCCURRED WE RETURNED CAR TO DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED IT AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF THAT EVER HAPPENING AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. WE FEAR IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN AND LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. *TR
SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF MOISTURE COLLECTS ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AFTER A HEAVY RAIN. BOTH THE DRIVER'S AND THE PASSENGER'S SEAT TRACK ASSEMBLIES STARTED TO RUST AS A RESULT. THE CAR SMELLS LIKE MOLD. TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP (IN NC WHERE I WAS STATIONED AT THE TIME) IN NOVEMBER 2012 AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE DRAIN HOLES IN THE RIGHT RIDE DOOR (REAR) WERE NEVER PUNCHED OUT. THAT WAS CORRECTED; HOWEVER, THE MOISTURE PROBLEM CONTINUES. AT THE NC FORD DEALERSHIP, IT WAS ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR HATCH WINDOW GASKET LEAKS. IT WAS RESEALED, BUT NOT REPLACED. TOOK THE CAR TO A MA DEALERSHIP IN AUGUST 2013 FOR SAME LEAK ISSUE. THE GASKET NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WHY WAS THIS NOT DONE BEFORE IN NOVEMBER? A WINDOW GASKET IS SUPPOSED TO LAST 5-6 YEARS NOT LESS THAN 3 ! CAR IS STILL COLLECTING MOISTURE - PROBLEM NOT SOLVED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000. UPDATED 4/1/13 *CN AFTER THE VEHICLE JERKES, THE CONSUMER STATED HE SPEED WAS 3 MPH. THE INCIDENT ALSO OCCURRED WHILE DRIVNG 15-20 MPH.
IN THE SPAN OF 4 DAYS MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE XLS ENGINE FAILED TO TURN OVER 3 TIMES. THE FIRST TWO INCIDENTS WERE RESOLVED BY JUMP STARTING PROBABLY DUE TO LOW BATTERY OUTPUT. SO YESTERDAY, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP AND REPLACED THE FACTORY-INSTALLED BATTERY THINKING THIS WAS IT. TODAY THIS MORNING, AS MY FAMILY AND I WERE ABOUT TO HEAD OUT FOR GROCERY SHOPPING, THE IGNITION WON'T START AGAIN. SO I CALLED FOR A JUMP STARTING SERVICE THROUGH MY INSURANCE AND THIS TIME IT WON'T START AT ALL. IT WAS TOWED AND MOVED TO THE MECHANIC SHOP FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. SINCE IT WASN'T A FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO DO A COMPLETE DIAGNOSIS. BUT BASED ON WHAT THEY WERE ABLE TO DO, IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS A BREAKDOWN OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN IGNITION AND ENGINE. I HAD THIS FOR TWO YEARS NOW ORIGINALLY PURCHASED FROM AAFES MILITARY SALES KOREA AND THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I AM COMPLETELY BAFFLED AND IRRITATED BY ALL THIS EVENT BECAUSE THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON FOR THE CAR TO STALL LIKE THAT. CURRENTLY I AM OVERSEAS IN KOREA WITH THE US ARMY AND THERE ARE ONLY A COUPLE OF FORD DEALERSHIPS OVER AND THEY ARE NOT NEAR BY. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING TO SCHOOL AND AS SHE WAS PULLING OFF THE HIGHWAY HER ESCAPE STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR, SO SHE PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TRYING HER BEST TO NOT GET HIT BY CARS GOING MUCH FASTER THAN SHE COULD MOVE, AND PUT THE TRUCK INTO PARK. I WAS NOW TALKING TO HER OVER HER CELL AND I ASKED TRIED TO PUSH ON THE ACCELERATOR, BUT NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN, AS IF THE GAS PEDAL WAS BROKEN. SHE SAW A LITTLE WRENCH IN THE LOWER LEFT SIDE OF THE DASH, SO I ASKED HER TO TURN THE TRUCK OFF. AFTER A MINUTE I HAD HER TURN THE KEY BACK ON, AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE TRUCK WORKED FINE. PLUS, THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS OFF. TWO DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED, BUT THIS TIME SHE WAS DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET. TRUCK LOST POWER, AND THE GAS PEDAL HAD NO CONTROL AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. SHE MANAGED TO AVOID GETTING HIT AS SHE SLOWED DOWN AND CARS CAME UPON HER QUICKLY. SHE MANAGED TO CRUISE LONG ENOUGH TO GET NEAR OUR HOUSE AND JUMPED IN AND SAW THE SAME THING SHE WAS EXPERIENCING. WE PARKED THE ESCAPE IN THE DRIVEWAY AND THE IDLE SEEMED FINE, BUT THE ACCELERATOR HAD NO RESPONSE. I THEN TURNED THE KEY OFF AND BACK ON AND THE LITTLE WRENCH LIGHT WAS GONE AND THE ACCELERATOR WAS FULLY FUNCTIONAL AGAIN. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT IN TO FORD, AS IT HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON IT. THEY CALLED US BACK LATER ON THAT DAY AND SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, AS THEY COULD NOT SEE ANY CODES IN THE COMPUTER. I HAVE READ THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM, AND IN MY OPINION, VERY UNSAFE. WHEN THE TRUCK GOES INTO THIS "LIMP MODE"YOU CANNOT GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ONGOING TRAFFIC. PLUS, NOW I AM AFRAID TO HAVE HER DRIVE THIS FAR FROM MY HOME. I DON'T WANT HER TO GET STRANDED, AND IF THE DEALER CAN'T FIX IT BECAUSE THEY CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM. WHAT AM I TO DO? I HOPE SOMETHING GETS FIGURED OUT SOON. THIS IS NOT SAFE, NOR AN ACCEPTABLE SERVICE RESPONSE! *TR
I SHUT MY TAILGATE AND THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED ON MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE. NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT IT DEFINITELY MADE A HUGE MESS AND IT WAS A SHOCK TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. THIS IS THE SECOND ISSUE MY VEHICLE HAS HAD THIS YEAR. A FEW MONTHS AGO THE THROTTLE CONTROL WENT ON THE VEHICLE. BOTH NOT COVERED BY FORD, DUE TO THE WARRANTY OVER. I HAVE MANY CONCERNS THAT A TWO YEAR OLD VEHICLE COULD HAVE THESE TYPE OF THINGS GOING WRONG WITH IT. MY OTHER CONCERN IS FORD WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THESE ISSUES WITH RECALLS AND MANY OF MY FELLOW FORD OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS FOR US. WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 20 MPH DOWN THE STREET, THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST RESPONSIVENESS TO PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON INDICATED A POWER TRAIN MALFUNCTION. I DRIFTED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I THEN WAITED ABOUT A MINUTE AND TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AGAIN. EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT AWAY. THE CAR DROVE FINE FOR ANOTHER 50 MILES OR SO. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THERE IS NO WARNING AND WHEN IT HAPPENS NOTHING YOU DO CAN MAKE THE CAR RESPOND. TURNING THE CAR OFF THEN ON AGAIN SOLVED THIS PROBLEM. THROUGH SEARCHING THROUGH THIS DATABASE, IT IS APPARENT THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD ESCAPE THROTTLE BODIES. MOST LIKELY A DEFECT IN THE PART. *TR
VEHICLE BEGAN THROTTLING WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AS I PULLED OVER, VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN JUMPING FORWARD. APPLIED BRAKES AND STILL KEPT JUMPING FORWARD. SWITCHED GEAR TO PARK AND CAR STALLED. TURNED ON AFTER A FEW TRIES. CONTINUES TO JUMP FORWARD AND SHAKE. AFTER A FEW MINUTES PROBLEM WENT AWAY AND VEHICLE DROVE NORMAL. THREE WEEKS LATER SAME OCCURRENCE. THIS WEEK ANOTHER OCCURRENCE OF THE PROBLEM. CONTACTED SUNRISE FORD DEALER IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD ,CA AND WAS TOLD I NEED TO PAY $150.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. *TR
THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE LEADING TO A SITUATION WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT WOULD IMMEDIATE GO INTO A CRAWL MODE JUST ENOUGH TOGET ME TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN A FEW MILES LATER. I TOOK TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY, THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AT A COST OF $440.00. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE ENGINE REVS UP AND LOSSES POWER TO THE TRANSMISSION AS IF IT WAS OUT OF GEAR. IT ALSO HAS HAPPENED AND STANDING, I NEED TO SHUT OFF THE MOTOR AND RESET IT AS TO SPEAK. THE FORD DEALER HAS SAID THAT IT IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE, BUT I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT DOWN THE HIGHWAY FOR FEAR THAT I MAY BE REAR ENDED. I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE IS A CURRENT INVESTIGATION UNDER WAY FOR THROTTLE BODY FAILURES AND THERE IS A CURRENT NATIONAL BACK ORDER ON THEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND ERRONEOUSLY TRAVELED OVER A CEMENT PARKING DIVIDER. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE VEHICLE LUNGE FORWARD AND STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,500.
I WAS DRIVING FROM MISSISSIPPI TO KANSAS. HAD THE VEHICLE SET ON CRUISE CONTROL AND IT JUST QUIT. STARTINGSLOWING DOWN AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE USING THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW MINUTES. IT CLICKED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE FINALLY TURNING OVER. IT NEVER DID IT AGAIN UNTIL RECENTLY AND NOW IT DOES IT REPEATEDLY WITH NO INDICATOR(S). THERE IS NO WAY A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD SHOULD GAVE A MAJOR FUNCTIONING PAFT MALFUNCTION LIKE THAT. AND DEFINITELY NOT FOR THE PRICE WE PAY FOR A VEHICLE. ITS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT (IF IT HASNT ALREADY) SUDDENLY LOSING POWER LIKE THAT IN A HIGH TRAFFIC AREA AND AT ANY SPEED IS DANGEROUS. *TR
WHILE PULLING OFF FROM A STOP SIGN UNDER MODERATE ACCELERATION THE TRANSMISSION "FLARED" DROPPING OUT OF GEAR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STOP ACCELERATING, AND THE ENGINE TO REV. AFTER LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR THE VEHICLE REGAINED POWER. THIS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE DAY. FINALLY TOOK IT TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A NORMAL ROAD, THE VEHICLE'S WRENCH LIGHT (ON THE DASH) ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. THAT IS, PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR YIELDED NO RESULTS. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY A SHUDDERING STALL-OUT (ENGINE SHUT DOWN) WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE FIRST ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE ENGINE RESULTED IN A CLICKING NOISE. THE ENGINE STARTED WITHOUT FAULT ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WITHOUT INCIDENT FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY AND THE FOLLOWING TWO DAYS. ON THE 4TH DAY, THE INCIDENT REPEATED. NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATIONAL CONDITIONS ARE SHORT (10 TO 15 MINUTES) ONE-WAY TRIPS. FORD TECHNICIANS FOUND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STICKING IN CLOSED POSITION. A NEW THROTTLE BODY WAS INSTALLED. *TR

2 DIFFERENT TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH SPEED LIMIT OF 65 ON ONE HIGHWAY AND 70 ON ANOTHER HIGHWAY CAR STALLED, POWER STEERING WAS OUT AND GAS DIDN'T WORK, BOTH TIMES I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IT HAPPENED A FEW MORE TIMES WHEN NOT ON THE HIGHWAY, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME 180$ JUST TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG AND BECAUSE IT WAS BEYOND THE 36000 MILE WARRANTY THEY SAID NOTHING WOULD BE COVERED, SO I TOOK IT TO OUR MECHANIC AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT IS WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, HE REPLACED IT FOR 500$, IT HASN'T HAD THE PROBLEMS SINCE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. *TR
UPON STARTUP, VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN, NO POWER STEERING. TOOK TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. HARD FAULT CODE B1342, EPAS FAILURE. REPAIR: REPLACE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY AT HIGHER SPEED, THE ABILITY TO SWERVE WOULD HAVE BEEN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. COST OF REPAIR, $1400. *TR

DRIVING VEHICLE ON BUSY HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL AT 60 MPH. THE DASH WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE IDLED DOWN, BACK-FIRED AND WOULD NOT ACCLERATE. YESTERDAY, THE SERVICE TECH DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY AND WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. WE WERE NOT GIVEN WARRANTY COVERAGE BECAUSE THE MILEAGE WAS 36,4XX WHEN IT ARRVED AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN FOR SOMEONE ELSE. *TR
THE INCIDENT FIRST HAPPENED ON SEP. 2 2013, WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING ON HIGHWAY RAMP. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST PUSHING POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON WHILE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE THEN RESTARTED IT AND EVERYTHING BACK TO NORMAL. THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK ON SEP 6, WHILE I WAS ON THE LEFT LANE OF HIGHWAY 401 AND ACCELERATING TO ABOUT 60 MILES. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND BOOKED APPOINTMENT. TODAY (SEP 9) IT WAS ALMOST ACCIDENT ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN IN AN LOCAL INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE LOST THE POWER DURING ACCELERATING. LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THE FORD ESCAPE, I WAS HEADED EAST FROM SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI TO MA ON RT 79/24 AT 6:30 A.M. DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES AN HOUR, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ON THE CONTROL PANEL. I WAS WITHOUT A CELL PHONE. IN THE DISTANCE I COULD SEE AN OFF RAMP AND WAS ABOUT TO WALK. I SUCCESSFULLY RESTARTED THE CAR, EXITED THE HIGHWAY, TO RETURN TO RI. AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES, THE CAR AGAIN, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN SEEKONK AND THE WRENCH LIGHT AGAIN CAME ON THE CONTROL PANEL. AGAIN, I RESTARTED THE CAR AND PROCEEDED CAUTIOUSLY TO SOUTH KINGSTOWN, WHEN THE CAR AGAIN STOPPED IN WAKEFIELD, AND THE WRENCH LIGHT INDICATING A POWER TRAIN FAILURE APPEARED ON THE CONTROL PANEL. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. IT STILL HAD A MONTH LEFT ON THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY. UPON INSPECTION THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INDICATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THEY TOLD ME THAT UNLESS THE PROBLEM COULD BE RECREATED, THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS. BECAUSE IT WAS LABOR DAY WEEKEND, I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL TUESDAY AND TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER IN NARRAGANSETT RI, WHERE THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR THREE DAYS. DRIVING CAR ON HIGHWAY ON DAILY COMMUTE IN 5:00 PM TRAFFIC. MERGING INTO TRAFFIC, GAVE IT GAS AND CAR SLOWED TO NOTHING, WOULD NOT INCREASE IN SPEED, RPMS VERY HIGH , WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON HAD TO TURN CAR OFF AND BACK ON TO GET IT HOME. TOOK TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED IT WAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY, NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. *TR
THE PROBLEM WAS RANDOMLY DEMONSTRATED SEVERAL TIMES BETWEEN 8/31/12 AND 9/4/12. THE ACCELERATOR WOULD SEEM TO STOP WORKING OR BECOME UNRESPONSIVE, MOST OFTEN AT SPEEDS OF 20-30 MPH. THERE WOULD BE SPUTTERING, STALLING, AND THEN TOTAL STOPPAGE.. THE MOTOR WAS RUNNING BUT THERE SEEMED TO BE NO FUEL FLOW. I WOULD TURN IT OFF, WAIT SEVERAL SECONDS, RESTART IT, AND EVERYTHING WOULD WORK SMOOTHLY UNTIL, WITH NO WARNING, THE PATTERN WOULD REPEAT ITSELF. IT OCCURRED FIVE TIMES /3 MILES, TWO TIMES/1 MILE, AND TWO TIMES/0.5 MILE. EARLY ON 9/4, THE PATTERN REPEATED THREE TIMES ON THE WAY TO THE REPAIR SHOP. THESE INCIDENTS PRODUCED ANXIETY FOR ME AND I WAS GOING SLOW. WE DID NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND AS WE WERE CONCERNED THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS WHEN WE WOULD BE TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS.THE ERROR TROUBLE CODES WERE PO685, P2111, P2112. HE SAID THE CAR WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED. SINCE THE MECHANIC REPORTED "THROTTLE BODY" BEING THE PROBLEM I RESEARCHED THE THROTTLE BODY AS IT RELATES TO THE FORD ESCAPE. IT CAUSES ME GREAT CONCERN THAT THIS HAS BEEN DEMONSTRATED TO BE A DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING PROBLEM ON THE ESCAPE SINCE 2000 AND I BOUGHT 3 NEW ESCAPES WITHIN THAT TIME PERIOD; A 2002, A 2007, AND THE 2010 ESCAPE, AND THERE HAS BEEN NO EFFECTIVE, CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO RESOLVE THIS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS SAID THERE WILL BE NO REIMBURSEMENT OF THE $475.00 AND THIS PART IS NOT UNDER ANY WARRANTY. ALTHOUGH THE MONEY IS AN ISSUE, THE GREATER ISSUE IS THE NEED TO PREVENT FUTURE DEATHS. WE TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WAITED 10 MINUTE AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE WRENCH LIGHT DID NOT COME ON AND WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE IF OFF THE HIGHWAY TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED AND SINCE THE CAR WAS 4,500 OVER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY LIMIT IT WAS NOT COVERED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. IF THE DRIVER WERE LESS EXPERIENCED AND HAD A FAILURE ON A BUSY FREEWAY AT NIGHT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. PROBLEM OCCURRED 12 TIMES THE OTHER DAY WITH MANY OF THEM ON A MULTILANE INTERSTATE WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH IN THE FAR LEFT LANE WITH NOWHERE TO QUICKLY PULL-OFF THE ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT OCCURS ON THE INTERSTATE AND YOU QUICKLY HAVE TO MANEUVER TO CHANGE LANES AND PULL OFF THE ROAD OR RISK COMING TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY. MULTIPLE NOISES STARTED TO OCCUR. THE FIRST WAS A CRACKING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING, SECOND CAME A CLICKING NOISE WHILE BRAKING AND THEN A HOWLING SOUND. THE CRACKLING NOISE HAS YET TO BE DISCOVERED, THE CLICKING WAS THE DRIVE SHAFT AND ROTORS. THE HOWLING NOISE IS SUPPOSEDLY THE TRANSFER CASE. ADDITIONALLY, THE GEARS DO NOT SEEM TO CATCH BETWEEN 50-65MPH. *TR
ON 8/11/12 WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH WHEN I NOTICED I WAS LOSING ACCELERATION DESPITE CONSTANT PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS UNRESPONSIVE TO THE GAS PEDAL. STEERING AND BRAKES WERE RESPONSIVE FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS. AFTER THAT 30 SECONDS THE STEERING AND BRAKES ALSO BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. I COASTED TO A STOP, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RAN NORMALLY. ON 8/12/12 I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE PROBLEM RECURRED IN THE SAME ORDER AND TIMING. THEN ON 8/30/12 I WAS AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE PROBLEM RECURRED, AGAIN AROUND 65 MPH. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, PROGRESSED AROUND A MILE FURTHER, AND THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. RESTARTED, AND THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, AROUND 65 MPH, ABOUT 30 MILES LATER. AT THIS TIME I NOTICED THE "WRENCH" LIGHT WAS ON AS I COASTED TO A STOP. I RESTARTED, TURNED AROUND TOWARD HOME, AND THE PROBLEM RECURRED AGAIN. AT THIS TIME I SAW THE "WRENCH" LIGHT AND THE POWERTRAIN WARNING LIGHT WERE BOTH ON. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, RESTARTED, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE 70 MILES HOME WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL OCCURRENCES. WORKED FOR FORD SERVICE 27 YEARS. THEY STATED TRANS FLUID BURNT, BLACK AND FINE METAL AND FICTION MAT, AND HAD TRANS TORN UP DUE TO DEFECTIVE PART. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 45MPH, MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING AND THE CAR SLOWED TO A CRAWL IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND GET THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME MY THROTTLE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR GAVE NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM PRIOR TO THIS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDENLY I LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND HAD TO COAST OFF THE ROAD. A WRENCH WAS LIT UP ON MY DASHBOARD AND ALTHOUGH I HAD NO ACCELERATION, MY ENGINE WAS STILL SPUTTERING/RUNNING. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTING IT, IT RAN FAN AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS OFF. IT RAN FINE FOR THE NEXT WEEK UNTIL IT HAPPEN AGAIN. I WAS PULLIN ONTO THE ACCESS ROAD TO THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR AGAIN LOST ALL ACCELERATION, BUT CONTINUED TO RUN. THIS CONTINUED ALL THE WAY HOME, WHICH I ARRIVED SAFELY, LUCKILY. I CALLED A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET A SERVICE MANAGER ON THE PHONE. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO CALL ME BACK, WHICH THEY NEVER DID. I ENDED UP TAKING MY CAR TO ANOTHER SHOP NEAR MY HOME AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY HAD GONE OUT. THEY HAD RECENTLY MADE THIS FIX TO TWO OTHER FORD ESCAPES, WHICH CONCERNED ME. THEY ALSO HAD TO GET THE REPLACEMENT PIECE DIRECTLY FROM FORD, WHICH ALSO CONCERNS ME BECAUSE I AM NOW CONVINCED IT IS A FAULTY PIECE ALTOGETHER. I STILL FEEL AT RISK AS THEY HAVE ONLY REPLACED THE PIECE WHICH I FEEL MAY STILL BY FAULTY. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT FORD WAS PUT SO MANY PEOPLE AT RISK AND MY HOPE IS THAT THIS IS RESEARCHED AND IS RECALLED FOR PEOPLES SAFETY. I FEEL SO BLESSED THAT MY CHILD WAS NOT IN THE CAR WITH ME DURING THESE INCIDENTS ALTHOUGH I WAS EXTREMELY SCARED FOR MY OWN WELL BEING. I WOULD LIKE FORD TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. *TR
TWICE, VEHICLE WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE, ONCE WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL, AND A SECOND TIME WHEN TURNING ONTO ANOTHER ROADWAY. THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY IDLE AND WE HAD TO PULL OUT OF MOVING TRAFFIC AND SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE FOR A MINUTE AND THEN RESTART. IT WOULD THEN RUN FINE. GUESSING THE THROTTLE COMPUTER HAD TO REBOOT TO FUNCTION AGAIN. *TR
I HAVE TAKEN THIS 2010 FORD ESCAPE TO GENE MESSER FORD TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I AM AGAIN TAKING IT FRIDAY MAY 3, 2013 FOR IT TO BE CHECKED AGAIN. I WILL BE DRIVING AT 60MPH AND IT JERKS THEN THE RPM WILL DROPPED AND THEN THE CAR WILL DIE LEAVING ME STALLED IN TRAFFIC. IT WILL TRY TO START BUT TAKES A BIT AND ABOUT A MINUTE IT WILL START UP AND CONTINUE ON. IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE THIS WEEK. THE ONLY LIGHT THAT COMES ON IS THE WRENCH. DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 70 MPH. LOST DRIVE POWER AS IF TRANSMISSION HAD DISCONNECTED (EVEN THOUGH TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WAS IN DRIVE MODE) AND "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON. TACHOMETER SHOWED ABOUT 1100 RPM. PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DOWN DID NOT INCREASE ENGINE RPM. COASTED TO SHOULDER. TURNED OFF IGNITION AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IMMEDIATELY. VEHICLE STARTED UP AND DROVE NORMALLY. *TR
ON MY WAY TO WORK, THE CAR STARTED TO PULL THEN CAR JUST TURNED OFF. DID IT AGAIN A WEEK LATER AND THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. TOOK IT TO A GAS STATION PAID FOR A DIAGNOSE AND A CODE 2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM CAME UP. CALLED DEALER AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO CHANGE IT AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT CAUSE THE WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED AT 30 THOUSAND MILES. *TR

WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 65MPH MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. MY SPEED DROPPED TO A CRAWL AND I WAS FORCED TO DRIFT TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. AT THIS POINT THE CAR WAS JERKING BACK AND FORTH AND WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RE-STARTED, AND DROVE NO MORE THEN 45 MPH TO MY DEALERSHIP. ABOUT 1 WEEK AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT A VERY LOW SPEED, APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. I AGAIN PULLED OVER AND NOTICED A WRENCH ILLUMINATED ON THE CONTROL PANEL. AGAIN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, NO RESOLUTION. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOW ASKING ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH A DIAGNOSTIC DEVICE ATTACHED TO CAPTURE DATA AT THE NEXT FAILURE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN! I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION WILL RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AND POSSIBLE INJURY. *TR
THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I THOUGHT IT WAS "BAD GAS". I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE FAST LANE AND THE JUST LOST POWER AND THE WRENCH ICON CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. I CROSSED 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO SPEED UP AND A STRANGE RESISTANCE IN THE PEDAL AS I WAS BRAKING. TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND IT STARTED UP FINE EXCEPT THAT THE STARTER SEEMED TO GET STUCK, AS IF I WAS STILL TURNING THE KEY. THIS RAPIDLY INCREASED IN FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCES. FROM TWICE IN 6 MONTHS TO EVERYDAY LAST WEEKEND. ANOTHER TIME THE TRUCK STARTED ACCELERATING AS I DROVE ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ALREADY GOING THE SPEED LIMIT SO IT WAS REALLY SCARY. I HIT THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD AND APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND YOU COULD SMELL BURNT RUBBER. I GOT OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND LET MY CHILDREN OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE I WAS SCARED I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO STOP. I TURNED THE CAR OFF WHILE THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO PUSH LIKE IT WAS GOING 100MPH BUT NO LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH OR ANYTHING. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR BACK UP IT WAS RUNNING NORMAL. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TODAY THEY ADVISED THAT IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND EVEN WITH LESS THAT 32,000 MILES ON THE CAR IT IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY SO THEY WANT $650 TO FIX IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 59,000.
