I purchased my 2013 Escape SE AWD (non-turbo) last January 5, 2021 at approximately 59k miles (currently at 81+k miles) and haven't had any issues (other than having to replace ALL of the defective lugnuts that swell and make it so the included tire iron that Ford provides, don't even fit them for removal after almost getting hit by a car when I couldn't get them off when trying to change a flat tire three days after taking ownership of the vehicle) until today. I do my regularly scheduled oil changes and such and I'm still about 1050 miles away from when my next oil change is due. I was driving on a non-interstate highway, going up an incline at about 45-50mph, having pulled away from a full stop at a traffic light. Suddenly, I hear a ding, and look down and the 'engine coolant low' warning comes on, then another ding, and the 'danger of overheating' warning comes on, I look at the temperature gauge and it's right at normal. Within 3 seconds of the overheating warning coming on, while I was in heavy active rush hour traffic the engine just died, shut off, no power, nothing and all the dash lights came on. Luckily I had a little momentum and was able to pull over (after having to cross two lanes of traffic) safely and turned off the car. I waited a few minutes and then started it back up, the temp gauge now, shot to the top, but quickly came back down to normal, the coolant light warning was off with just the check engine light on. I pulled into a gas station purchased coolant and much to my surprise when I opened the hood, it wasn't low at all and was just slightly above the Minimum mark. I put a little in (but not over MAX) and was able to get it to a mechanic, but they can't look at it until tomorrow (12/14/21) as they were about to close. The vehicle is garage kept, and there are no spots underneath where the car parks. Considering the reservoi was full and hadn't been topped off since my last oil change in August, it doesn't appear to be burning anything.
Windshield wiper malfunction While granddaughter and children were driving in rain on freeway, wipers started malfunctioning by working out of synchronization then failing forcing her to pull into emergency lane and stopping. After restarting engine they started wiping for a short time than quit. It was extremely dangerous. Research showed me this was a re accuring problem with other people that has caused dangerous situations, expensive and sometimes unsuccessful solutions.
Was driving my car and got a message about steering assist came on. Shut the car off because I could not steer it, turned car back on and message went away and it was ok. Had an appointment 12/14 to have my car inspected and an oil change at Carnegie Motors so I told them what happened . I had to get a new tire to pass inspection so had to wait for tht to come in 12/20/21They did their part but called and said it would have to go to the dealership for the steering problem they had removed the battery thinking it would reset itself. Jeff then took it up to Woltz Wind Ford which was about 1 mile up the road - had trouble steering. Because of the holiday and days off they did not get to my car till 12/27 they told me that the Steering Gear box had to be replaced. In researching online I saw that Ford had recalls on 20008 and 2011 for the same problem. My vehicle has41,958 miles on it. Apparently Ford still has the same problem with steering issues The representative just said that parts wear out that I did nothing to cause this problem. I have to get this car repaired to the tune of $2200 plus it is still there will send invoice when I get it. Just glad I was not on the highway when this happened. Definitely a safety issue Obviously the 2013 needed to be recalled as well.
The suv stutters and jerks at take off real hard
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while shifting from PARK to REVERSE, there was a delay with the transmission going into gear. The contact shifted back into PARK. The contact called a local independent mechanic and describe the failure. The mechanic informed the contact that the failure could be related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V471000 (Power Train) however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacture was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 177,000.
While driving on the morning of 12/9/2021, the low engine coolant warning came on. Vehicle is leaking engine coolant from undiscovered location.
Engine frequently overheating, this was recall for my model/ year/vehicle and I was told vin# doesn't associate with recall. I would like to know why.
Vehicle started grumbling upon acceleration. No warning lights came on indicating an issue but I felt the vehicle was unsafe to drive and had it towed to the dealer. The dealer inspected the car and found that the cylinder head of the engine was cracked. The vehicle has had coolant issues repaired on multiple occasions, once over the summer when the hose exploded causing the vehicle to overheat. The crack in the engine and the lack of warning light could have caused me to drive this vehicle and it catch on fire while driving.
I’ve not wrecked the car but now I can’t drive it because my driver door won’t shut. This happened 12/01/21. I called Jacky Jones Ford they couldn’t get to it referred me to get a body shop to look at it. I now find out this is a recall on my car. I didn’t own the car at the time the recall was issued so never received anything. I’ve owned this car since may 2017 I’ve had issues with inside filling up with smoke and smelling of wire burning Jacky Jones looked at it but didn’t find the issue also engine light comes on periodically then it starts showing it’s overheating I can’t do a system check because it don’t light up anymore the fuse is new still don’t work, but at the moment I can’t drive at all because my door won’t shut please help me with these issues please no one can figure it out and now I’m unemployed because of a dr sorry that’s another story Thank You
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated the vehicle was losing coolant. The low coolant indicator light was illuminated. The contact added coolant to the vehicle and the warning indicator light went away. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who referred the contact to the local dealer. The contact called the local dealer and was referred to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified however, no further assistance was provided. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V431000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
My car has stalled numerous times and have had 2 different shops look at this and this isnt the fuel pump and the drive module was replaced to try and this didnt fix no issues with this and they said there is something def wrong with this and there are numerous recalls on the same issue as with my car for these cars. Wiring harness or ecu issues is what I am being told possibly. This car is a danger. From the first time I bought this in the shop and I dont even drive this car much at all. This is a danger and Ford needs to address these cars. My car stopping in the middle of the road and I almost was rear ended.
I have 113k miles in my 2013 Escape. I hit the accelerate and it hesitates. Sometimes when I back it stalls, when I come to a stop, it stalls. It's stalled on me a few times going 55 in the passing lane. CarMax said it is not showing any codes to fix anything under warranty. I've read there are some complaints from other Escape owners having the same issue. What should I do?
when i back up then turn sharp to the right it will shut off. it will crank up . but i have had this to happen 2 times. its very scary to pull out into traffic .
In my 2013 Escape, the driver's side seatbelt would no longer retract back in place on its own- and while driving it would not retract properly, usually staying loose and laying on my lap while buckled. The passenger side seatbelt would not fit snug around the passenger either. Both front seatbelts would not restrain anyone in the event of braking hard. I took it in for repair to Fred Bean's Ford in Exton, PA. It was unsafe to drive the car because both the driver and passenger would fly forward when the brakes were pushed hard- no restraining at all from either seatbelt. The dealership charged me over $1200 to install a new part called a pretensioner in both seatbelts. I saved my receipt.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while coming to a complete stop, the vehicle idled and hesitated to stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed that there was no code or check engine warning light retrieved from the code reader. The mechanic replaced the spark plugs; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer cleaned the throttle body. The dealer informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The dealer did not diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V813000 (Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 122,092.
The contact's daughter owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. Due to the failure, her daughter had the vehicle towed to a dealer where they diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was unknown.
Battery went dead for 2 days. Once charged up Imediatley the back light of the truck were off.Even the turn signals dont work properly. Gabe it a few minutes to charge up then when i tried to turn it off it wouldnt shutt off. Took the ignition key out and it still stayed running. It turned off only after 5-10 min on its on. I thought it had to do something with the back lights so I disconeccted the backup light and pluged them back in and And tried to turn it off and on again and the same problem presisted. Engine still kept on running without the keys inside.
When the car has run (the engine is warm, so not a cold start), starting it again will lead to a stall, usually within two minutes. The car can be idling or moving, and it sputters and dies. It will start again, but will often stop one more time. Re-starting is becoming more hesitant (slower) as my mechanic can find no way to repair this problem (yet). This stopping has put me in some very, very dangerous situations, such as crossing a road with traffic oncoming or merging on to a highway. The car also has stalled going up a hill.
Power steering became noisy on start and turning right took vehicle to Firestone was told to take to dealer as "dealer needs to reprogram car after repairing" brought to dealer and told this may be a 2000-3000$ job along with a 3-4 day wait to even be looked at
I have a Ford Escape 2013 1.6 engine. The engine will sputter and stall and completely die. It does this spontaneously and no warning to indicate it will. I have gone to Ford multiple times about this issue yet they say there's nothing they can do about this issue.
While I was driving through my neighbor hood, I was making a left turn at an intersection and found that my vehicles power steering had stopped working. I was able to park the car and restarted it. It seemed fine while I was backing out of the space but as I was pulling forward the power steering went out again. Throughout the week the power steering would be working and then the next moment it would cut out unexpectedly.
I bought this car two years ago from rodeo Kia in Avondale Arizona and have had some issues with this car which all have been resolved but last year the car has had a major issue that still hasn’t been fixed I called numerous mechanics that have a identified the same problem over and over. I was told by repair smith that my car overheated and leaked Freon because of engine block crack that this cars are known for. So my car needs an engine block swap and I was told by the mechanic that this are one of fords cars that have this major problems down the line. So I did my research online and there is a lot of people with this problem with this 2013 ford escapes but when I put my vin number it says no recall for that but other escapes of the same year have that recall why is mine not showing that recall if it does have that diffract and problem and it’s the same year but it does not show the recall I think this is extremely unfair to me as a consumer.10
2013 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0L Ecoboost started making weird noises. I took it to the dealer to be looked at and now the Cylinder and turbo have to be replaced along with associated parts, due to coolant leaking into the block. Cost upwards of $6k to have it fixed. The parts alone costs almost the same as a new engine. I am blessed that it didn't seize or catch on fire before now. The backup camera is also giving me issue. I was told by the mechanic that it is also a well known problem and they have to replace a lot of Ford cameras costing about $900 to do so.
I have a 2013 Ford Escape with the 1.6l motor. The cup plug is leaking on my exhaust. This issue has a recall on it on vehicles manufactured from 10/5/2011 to 8/5/2012 in which mine is 7/2012 but my vin was not on the list for the recall. I don't want to drive the car for risk of fire as the recall states but it's my only vehicle.
When heater is turned on in my vehicle (2013 Ford Escape) during winter, the radiator light and check engine lights come on. Oil is visible on the engine. I refill the radiator and radiator light goes off. There is oil spewed under the vehicle's hood and on the motor. It is my understanding that there was a recall for the powerplant, which overheats and leaks oil and other fluids onto the engine which could possibly result in fire. I would prefer to avoid this
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the catalytic convertor to be replaced however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and the contact was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was 111,319.
I was attempting to move the vehicle which had been parked on the street in front of my residence into the driveway so it would be out of the way of the scheduled street sweeping. I could typically just reverse right angle the vehicle into the driveway. However, upon reversing the vehicle moved but not according to the way I was steering it. After a few failed attempts, I stopped to assess why this was happening. I know the emergency brake had been released, there were no alerts visible on the dashboard. I got out of the vehicle, no flat tire, nothing appeared different from when I parked the vehicle 36 hours prior. No signs that it had been struck since then. No obstructions behind or under the vehicle. I got back in and tried again. I was able to get it up onto the sidewalk but in a very unintended position. Further attempts did get it partially into the driveway but I nearly hit the picket fence in the front yard in doing so. With it now half on the sidewalk and half in the driveway, I put the brake on satisfied it was now off the street and no longer subject to city parking violation penalty. I had to cancel my work meeting and called the auto club for a tow. During the tow service pick-up, it appeared that the front driver side wheel was not aligning with the steering mechanism but we could manually position the wheel so we could get enough movement and position the vehicle and move it by chain onto the tow truck platform. Prior to parking the vehicle in front of the house, I had driven it without any problems. There was no evidence that it had been damaged or impacted by another vehicle or vandal.
Upon driving with my 3 young children on a 45mph road with 0 warning or notification the car quit accelerating. upon pulling over it would not restart. I had it towed to my house. A new battery was purchased and the car seemed fine. not even a few days later the low coolant light came on and even after filling it the next day it was empty again. Then whenever i slowed down, stopped at a light or stop sign the car will not accelerate as if the gears are not engaging.the reverse doesn't work at all anymore. after making a left turn into my neighborhood the car without any warning lights or notice would not go at all and i tried to restart to get it to go and a car (that was wayyy down the rd) honked it's horn and sped by me to where my car rattled. With my 3 children in the car who were terrified. My oldest who is 8 now has anxiety getting into vehicles. I called ford dealership and was told to call Ford. Ford said they had assistance prpgrams and then upon calling back with scheduled appointment said there was no such thing. Im told it's $100 just to diagnose it at ford and refuse to wave it. They said it sounds like the transmission which would be around 8k +... I'm only halfway through this car loan and am now paying on a car that is no longer drivable and costs more to fix than it's even worth. This is totally wrong that this car can still legally be sold with an open investigation as dangerous as this. it shouldn't take a death for action. The car is available for inspection upon request. It is sitting in my driveway.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle lost all power and the contact stated that the engine overheating warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and refilled the coolant reservoir and was able to restart the vehicle after waiting approximately 2 hours. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V583000 (Engine) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The manufacturer informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V813000 (Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
Check engine light soon light appeared in the morning. When accelerating up a steep incline, the engine temperature rose to the level of overheating within ~30 seconds and displayed the pull over immediately warning. At this time the engine began to emit a burning smell The check engine light went off but when I took the vehicle to a garage the next day, they were able to pull code P26B7, related to the engine coolant bypass. There is a TSB 13-2-15 related to this issue. The vehicle has less then 38,000 miles on it
Shifter bushing is worn out and broken not allowing the vehicle to go into gear and lock to that gear. I was parked during this time but it didn't allow my car to go into park without force so wasn't sure if the car would rollback. I mentioned the open recall on certain models to Ford and was confirmed that the issue is re-occurring in multiple Ford Escape, Focus, and Fusion models to date. The vehicle has been repaired for the same open recall (18S20) but paid for by out-of-pocket expenses. There were no warning or indications that the vehicle had this issue the issue happened once on Saturday, October 30, 2021.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering assist fault message was illuminated, and the vehicle lost power steering. The contact, an independent mechanic, performed a pressure test and noticed there was antifreeze leaking from a hole in the cylinder head. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure but did not diagnose the vehicle. The dealer gave the contact a printout of a possible failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 151,058.
While leaving the grocery store, my 2013 Ford Escape S, when I started it showed the fault “Steering assist fault service required”. The steering wheel was hard to turn, so I turned the car off and restarted the car. The message was gone and my car’s steering was back to normal. I called the Ford dealership and told them about the problem and they said there is no recall for this problem. My car has barely 64K miles on the odometer. I’ve read many customer complaints about this issue and Ford has done nothing about this. This is a safety concern regarding the loss of power steering and could possibly cause someone to have an accident or even kill someone. I don’t wanna spend thousands of dollars to repair something that should be recalled and be fixed by Ford free of charge.
After warmup, engine stalls at stop. It restarts, but intermittently stalls again at stop/go or when slowing down.
The water pump is leaking which is causing residual issues with the timing. I don't know enough about engines to know for certain how severe the safety concern is with this, but I felt negligent to not report it. The problem has been reviewed by a garage and an independent mechanic. It has not been inspected by insurance or police. The warning light only came on after the leak almost completely drained the coolant.
Power steering seemed to failed driving, unable to turn. The mechanic said the steering wheel column needs to be replaced. There was no warning. This put me and my children at risk that could’ve been fatal.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that as her daughter attempted to place the gear shifter into reverse, the gear shifter seized between reverse and neutral. There was no warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the contact's daughter called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V471000 (Power Train). The contact then had the vehicle towed to a dealer where she was informed that her vehicle was not included in the recall. Don's Ford (5712 Horatio St, Utica, NY 13502) was also called and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic where it remained in their possession unrepaired. The failure mileage was 110,000.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train). The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for routine maintenance where it was diagnosed with needing the rack and pinion replaced. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
This just so the information is sent in to someone I bought this car used from.day one had problems warranty did not cover anything. First when you would start it it would flash power steering assist fault on the dash you shut car off and restart it goes away. Then the turbo boost sensors keep going I have replaces these three different times find out there is a service bulletin out for it but ford won't fix it for free there is a short in the wire you have to pay out of pocket for. Next was driving down the road and lost all power it went into limp mode while we were driving. The transmission is all messed up in this vehicle it was leaking fluid and took it to a shop to see where and can't find it. There are other electrical issues with the car I have 157k on it
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the message electrical fault was displayed, and the vehicle stalled. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was not notified. The contact called the manufacturer, but no assistance was offered regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 121,000.
My car was stolen i need to track it or disable the engine
The contact's wife owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, a warning alert would frequently chime as the low coolant warning message would illuminate on the instrument panel. The contact had to frequently replenish the coolant due to the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed him that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V431000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided the same information as the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 141,460.
Cylinder 3 misfire - cylinder allowed engine coolant to get into engine which should not happen - engine failed in light of this defect - engine replacement required - many Ford Dealerships will confirm the 1.6 L Turbo eco boost engine in the 2013 model year Escape are plagued with issues - Full Engine replacement required on my 2013 Ford Escape that only had 73,000 miles - Ford will not reimbursement for the new engine installed - costs for new engine just under $6900 - rental expense accumulated as well while we were down a vehicle - Ford told me to log my complaint with the NHTSA - I am doing this now - Can the NHTSA help? What can I expect from the NHTSA? Engines that fail as this one can be very dangerous - main concern is obviously and engine fire - any help would be appreciated
