WHEN ON AN INCLINE OR AT LOW SPEEDS LIKE COMING STOP A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN, I PUSH THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR REVS UP TO 5 AND 6 BUT BARELY MOVES. ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL TAKE OFF AND JUMP INTO GEAR REALLY HARSHLY. AT TIMES IT WILL SLIP OUT OF GEAR AND GO SUPER SLOW WHILE IN TRAFFIC. I FEEL LIKE I MAY GET HIT AT SOME POINT FROM BEHIND. THIS HAPPENS COMING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, IT HAPPENS AT SLOW SPEEDS, IT SLOWS DOWN AT 35/40MPH, IT HAPPENS WHILE TURNING CORNERS. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED IT ON THE HIGHWAY. IT SEEMS ONCE I REACH HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT WORKS PROPERLY. I HAVE A TRANSMISSION FAULT NOTIFICATION ON THE DASHBOARD.
THIS IS THE 2ND TIME IN 6 MONTHS THIS CAR HAS STOPPED RUNNING BECAUSE IT SAYS THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE IS HOT, BUT BOTH TIMES THE CAR HAS ONLY BEEN RUNNING FOR 5 MINUTES.
MY POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT ON MY CAR. THE MESSAGE: STEERING ASSIST FAULT POPPED UP AND THEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I HAVE A 2013 ESCAPE WITH 95,000, REGULARLY MAINTAINED. FORD WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING GEAR IN 2013'S, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS RECALLED IN PREVIOUS YEARS AND IN OTHER MODELS. THEY WANT $2200 TO FIX IT!
STALLS F4EQUENTLY. SOME TIMES WITHIN 1 MINUTE RUN TIME IT DROPS TO REALLY LOW RPM. THEN DIES. RESTART IT WILL JERK AND DIE AGAIN. MOST OF THE TIME BY 3RD START IT STAYS RUNNING. REALLY SCARED IT MIGHT GET ME KILLED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE ALSO RECURRED WHILE STOPPED AND WHILE TURNING. AN UNKNOWN FORD DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE LEFT REAR DOOR OPENED UP. PULLED OVER TO SHUT THE DOOR.. THE DOOR WILL NOT STAY SHUT. MY SON WAS IN THE BACK SEAT AND THANKFULLY ALWAYS WEARS HIS SEAT BELT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SOMEONE CAN BE KILLED WITH THIS DEFECT.
MY WELL-MAINTAINED 2013 FORD ESCAPE WITH APPROXIMATELY 65,000 MILES ON IT RECENTLY DEVELOPED A COOLANT LEAK. UPON COMPLETE INSPECTION AT THE DEALERSHIP, THIS APPEARS TO BE AN INTERNAL COOLANT LEAK THAT IS VERY SIMILAR IN DESCRIPTION TO THOSE WHICH HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPORTED IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR IN SELECTED MANUFACTURED VEHICLES. MY CAR WAS NOT ONE OF THESE SELECTED VEHICLES IN PRIOR RECALLS, AND I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE ARE ADDITIONAL VEHICLES AFFECTED, INCLUDING MINE, THAT SHOULD ALSO BE RECALLED. IN MY CAR, THERE IS AN INTERNAL COOLANT LEAK WITH EVIDENCE OF ACTIVE LEAK ONTO THE SPARK PLUGS AND DESTROYING THE ENGINE, AND THIS HAS RESULTED IN REQUIRING INSTALLATION OF AN ENTIRELY NEW ENGINE. PRIOR RECALL REPORTS A 'COOLANT SYSTEM LEAK THAT MAY CAUSE THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AND LEAK FLAMMABLE ENGINE FLUIDS'. I WAS ALERTED TO THE LEAK ISSUE IN MY CALL WHEN AN 'ENGINE OVERHEATING' WARNING CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH A LOW COOLANT WARNING, WHICH PROMPTED ME TO PROCEED TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH MY CAR. THIS WARNING CAME ON WHILE DRIVING MY CAR VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET. THANK YOU FOR INVESTIGATING THIS CONCERN.
FUEL: THE CAR WAS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD STARTED WITH A FUEL ISSUE. EVERY TIME I PUT GAS, THEN TURN ON CAR DOESN'T WANT TO START. IT WILL EVENTUALLY START AND NO OTHER PROBLEMS OCCUR. BUT IT DOES TAKE A WHILE FOR IT TO START. KIND OF LIKE WHEN THE BATTERY IS DYING. ENGINE: WHEN GOING UP STEEP HILLS THE ENGINE OVER HEATS. IT STABILIZES ONCE WE DRIVE ON FLAT SURFACE AND DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN UNTIL WE GO UP STEEP HILLS AGAIN. BOTH ITEMS HAVE BEEN OCCURRING FR ABOUT 3 YEARS. THE FUEL PIECE IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR BECAUSE OF THE WAY FORD BUILT THE COMPACT ENGINE.
STARTED VEHICLE AT A PARKING LOT AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH NOT ISSUES DURING THE DAY, STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, VEHICLE HAD LOST POWER STEERING. TOOK TO DEALER, DEALER QUOTED $2076 FOR REPAIR.
TRANSMISSION- SHIFT PROBLEMS
EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING PULLED OVER WITHIN 5 MIN. VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE, WITHIN 15 MIN VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES THERE WHERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. WE HAD NO OTHER INDICATIONS THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. COOLANT WAS FULL.
VEHICLE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING RANDOMLY. THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION DRIVING STRAIGH-FORWARD WHEN THIS OCCURS. IT HAS HAPPENED IN PARKING LOTS AND ON CITY STREETS. I SEE THIS CAR HAS BEEN SUBJECT TO A RECALL FOR THIS AND I DON'T SHOW ANY CURRENTLY OPEN RECALLS SO PERHAPS THE FIX FOR THE RECALL WAS NOT SUFFICIENT. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED ABOUT A FEW MONTHS AGO FROM A FORD DEALER.
MY LOW ENGINE COOLANT WARNING KEEPS COMING ON. I HAVE FILLED THE COOLANT TANK AND IN ABOUT 3 HRS OF CONTINUOUS DRIVING THE COOLANT LIGHT COMES ON SAYING LOW COOLANT THEN OVERHEATING AND TO PULL OVER SAFELY. I CAN NO LONGER ACCELERATE AND HAVE TO PULL OVER. (OFTEN TIMES ON A HIGHWAY) I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY LEAKING WHILE THE CAR IS NOT IN USE. THE COOLANT TANK IS BEING LOWERED QUICKER AND QUICKER. THIS PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED FOR ABOUT 1 YR. AT FIRST THE COOLANT TANK TOOK A COUPLE MONTHS BEFORE IT GOT LOW BUT IT NOW HAS TO BE FILLED ABOUT EVERY OTHER DAY. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SUSPECTS A HEAD GASKET, BUT DOESN'T KNOW FOR CERTAIN WHAT IS CAUSING IT. *TR
OUR 2013 FORD ESCAPE HAS DEVELOPED A COOLANT LEAK AND OIL LEAK. THE COOLANT LEAK IS FROM THE WATER PUMP AND THE OIL LEAK IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. I HAVE SEEN THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ISSUES WITH THIS MODEL AND FORD HAS RECALLED SOME BUT OURS DOES NOT COME UP UNDER THAT RECALL.
MY CAR COOLANT IS LEAKING, HOSES ARE BAD, ENGINE GASKET IS LEAKING OIL AND MY CENTER CONSOLE IS FAULTY. AND BATTERIES ARE DRAINING EVEN BRAND NEW ONES. I SEE THERE IS A RECALL FOR FIRE RISK COOLANT LEAK AND MY CAR QUALIFIES BUT WHEN I PUT MY VIN IT DIES NOT SHOW. PLEASE HELP. ALSO I GOT BUSHING GEAR SHIFT PROBLEM EARLIER DEALER SAID MY MANUFACTURE DATE IS DIFFERENT THAN RECALL DATE AND CHARGED ME FOR IT.
ON MONDAY, MAY 6 I WAS IN A STORE PARKING LOT AND I STARTED MY CAR TO BACK OUT AND DRIVE HOME. MY CAR GAVE AN ALERT THAT SAID THE ENGINE OVERHEATED. THERE WAS NO PRIOR NOTICE. THE CAR STALLED AND ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND WHEN I RESTARTED I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE FEW MILES HOME. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY. MY CAR WAS SERVICED AND THEY SAID THERE WAS SOME ISSUE WITH A COOLANT LEAK WHICH THEY FIXED. ON FRIDAY, JUNE 7TH I WAS ALSO IN A PARKING LOT WHEN I STARTED MY CAR TO DRIVE HOME. THE SAME ALERT CAME ON AND MY ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I TRIED THE SAME METHOD OF RESTARTING MY CAR IN AN ATTEMPT TO DRIVE HOME, HOWEVER THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT DRIVE. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TOW IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. AT THIS TIME IT IS STILL IN SERVICE AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. I PAID $1000 TO HAVE THE "ISSUE" FIXED A MONTH AGO. THEY HAVE NOT YET BEEN ABLE TO TELL ME WHAT THE "ISSUE" IS NOW. I DO HAVE THE RECEIPT AND PRINT OUT OF WHAT EXACTLY WAS DONE IN THE FIRST REPAIR BUT IT IS INSIDE MY CAR WHICH I CAN'T ACCESS RIGHT NOW. IF NEEDED I CAN PROVIDE LATER.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE INTERSTATE ON I-65 SOUTH AND IT WAS ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER MIDNIGHT. THE MONITOR ON MY CAR READ 'CAR OVERHEATING, PULL OVER SAFELY' SO I PULLED OVER AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I TURN THE CAR OFF AND LIFT THE HOOD AND SEE FLAMES. I IMMEDIATELY CALL 911 AND THE SEND A FIRE TRUCK. BEFORE THE FIRE TRUCK COULD GET THERE THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE CAR IS ENGULFED IN FLAMES, BURNING OR MELTING EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD. AFTER THIS I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL FOR THE COOLING SYSTEM THAT COULD DIRECTLY LEAD TO FIRES. NEITHER FORD NOR THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME OF THAT RECALL AND THE FACT THAT IT COULD'VE BEEN LIFE THREATENING. I'VE CONTACTED THEM BOTH AND NEITHER HAVE TRIED TO HELP ME AT ALL WITH THIS SITUATION. CARS SHOULD NOT JUST RANDOMLY CATCH ON FIRE AND I BELIEVE THERE COULD POSSIBLY BE VIOLATIONS OF PRODUCT LIABILITY. THEY BOTH ARE LEAVING ME IN A POSITION TO HAVE TO PAY FOR A CAR THAT NO LONGER EXISTS DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN, WHICH ALSO MAKES IT EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO GET ANOTHER CAR. PLEASE TELL ME THERE IS SOMETHING YOU CAN DO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE TEMPERATURE WAS INDICATING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING. THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT COULD ARRIVE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED AS WELL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY. THE CONTACT CALLED A DEALER (JENKINS & WYNNE FORD, HONDA, & LINCOLN 2655 TRENTON RD, CLARKSVILLE, TN 37040 (931) 542-4886) AND WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FIRE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT A WRITTEN RESPONSE WOULD BE RECEIVED IN THE MAIL. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE MANUFACTURER CALLED THE CONTACT AND REQUESTED THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO FILE A REPORT WITH THEM IN REGARDS TO THE RECALLS THAT WERE ON THE VIN. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 5 NHTSA RECALLS ASSOCIATED TO THE VIN AT THE TIME IT CAUGHT FIRE. THE ONE RECALL UNDER THE VIN THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE VEHICLE CATCHING FIRE WAS NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V584000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
VACUUM PUMP FAILURE. NO WARNING, WAS DRIVING ON AN EXIT RAMP FROM OUR STATE TURNPIKE AT LOW SPEED WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WAS VERY HARD TO PRESS AND IN TURN, CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAD JUST STOPPED TO PAY A TOLL ABOUT 200 YARDS PRIOR WITH NO PROBLEM. THE FAILURE OF THE VACUUM PUMP COUPLED WITH FORD UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT FROM THE INCIDENT DATE OF JUNE 6TH, 2019 UNTIL AUGUST 28, 2019 CAN EXPLAIN THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. FORD EDGE FROM THE SAME MODEL YEARS HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM, WITH FORD EXTENDING THE VACUUM PUMP WARRANTY TO 150,000 MILES OR 10 YEARS. THIS EXPANSION OF THE WARRANTY SHOULD ALSO BE APPLIED TO THE FORD ESCAPE. WILL IT TAKE SOMEONE BEING INJURED OR WORSE BEFORE THE NHSTA FORCES FORD TO 'FIX' THE PROBLEM ACROSS THE BOARD WITH DEFECTIVE VACUUM PUMPS ON THEIR WATCH?
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY ESCAPE. I HAD JUST PULLED OFF OF THE INTERSTATE AND STOPPED AT A GAS STATION. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR, I HAD NO POWER STEERING. THE ALERT SAID I HAD A POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING RACK . THE COST OVER $1800. WAS THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS SAME PART IN THE 2013 FOCUS? IF SO, WHY HASN'T IT BEEN EXTENDED TO THE ESCAPE AS WELL?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY TWENTY MINUTES, THE CONTACT RE-ENTERED AND STARTED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE POWER STEERING SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HUNT FORD (LOCATED AT 625 GARVIN LANE, FRANKLIN, KY 42134, (270) 586-3281) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1,800. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
WHILE MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY (APPROXIMATELY 2.5 YEAR AGO, WHEN IT WAS CLOSE TO 50,000 MILES), I BROUGHT MY CAR IN BECAUSE IT WAS SLOWLY LEAKING COOLANT. THEY FOUND A LEAK, BUT SINCE THE REPAIR WAS SO EXPENSIVE, I DECIDED IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO JUST KEEP REFILLING IT. AT THAT TIME, I HAD TO REFILL IT EVERY FEW MONTHS. RECENTLY, IT HAS BEEN MUCH WORSE WHERE I NEED TO REFILL IT EVERY WEEK. MY CAR ALSO STALLED (WITHIN A MINUTE AFTER STARTING IT), BUT I AM UNSURE WHETHER THOSE THINGS ARE CONNECTED. I HAVE READ ABOUT MANY RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE (SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR), BUT MY NOTHING COMES UP WHEN I SEARCH MY VIN. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT 99,000 MILES.
MY ESCAPE SHAKES, MISSES AND STALLS INTERMITTENTLY. AS I AM BRAKING IN TRAFFIC IT STARTS SHAKING, THEN STALLS. IT ALSO STALLS WHEN I CHANGE GEARS, I.E. I AM IN R THEN GO INTO D. THIS HAS BEEN SO DANGEROUS! I GET STUCK IN THE LINE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC AGAIN AND AGAIN. TRAFFIC BACKS UP BEHIND ME WHEN I STALL AND IT GETS SCARY! MY SONS(BOTH MECHANICS) BELIEVE IT IS THE VACUUM/ EVAPORATOR SYSTEM. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD GARAGE AND AFTER DRIVING IT FOR 10 MINUTES AND PULLING IT IN THE GARAGE THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE A $1989 REPAIR I WILL SEND YOU THEIR INVOICE. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR OTHER THAN THIS ISSUE...NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS EVER COME ON. I AM THE 2ND OWNER, AND HAVE NOT PUT 40000MILES ON IT SINCE I BOUGHT IT. IT HAD 42000 ON IT WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN 2014. I HAVE READ MANY REPORTS OF 2013-2014 ESCAPES HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE AND OWNERS PLEADING FOR AN EXTENDED VIN RECALL. I JOIN IN THAT PLEA!!!! I CANNOT AFFORD A REPAIR AT THIS COST AND I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW CAR. PLEASE FORD HELP WITH THIS DANGEROUS DEFAULT. MY SONS WON'T ALLOW MY GRANDCHILDREN TO RIDE IN MY CAR WITH ME AND I FEAR FOR THEIR SAFETY ALSO.🙁
SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF ENGINE COOLANT. LEAKING ENGINE COOLANT. CONSTANTLY REPLACING FLUID. ENGINE LIGHT NOW COMES ON CONSTANTLY. MECHANICS ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE. I HAVE PURCHASED OVER 6 BOTTLES OF ENGINE COOLANT. I REFILL THE TANK AT LEAST 4X MONTH.
THE 2013 ESCAPE WON'T PULL OUT OF A TURN WITHOUT ADDITIONAL FORCE APPLIED OR WILL TRY AND MAKE A TURN ON ITS OWN. ONCE YOU FORCIBLY MAKE IT STRAIGHTEN OUT, IT WORKS FINE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVEN TIMES IN THE LAST SIX WEEKS. FORTUNATELY WE HAVEN'T BEEN GOING FASTER THAN 30 MILES AN HOUR. IF IT HAPPENS AT A FREEWAY SPEED, NO TELLING WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. I HAPPENED TO MY WIFE LASST WEEK AND SHE SAID IF A CAR WAS COMING FROM THE OTHER DIRECTION, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY CLOSE TO AN ACCIDENT. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS CAR IS MAKING US VERY NERVOUS. WE TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER WE BOUGHT IT FROM, MARYSVILLE FORD IN WASHINGTON AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. A TEST DRIVE DOESN'T WORK, SINCE IT HAPPENS SO SELDOM. WHAT DO WE DO? IF I TRADE IT IN AND TELL WHAT IS THE PROBLEM, I WON'T GET ANYTHING FOR THE CAR. IF I DON'T SAY SOMETHING, SOMEONE MAY GET KILLED! THE CAR HAS 37000 MILES. AT 20000 MILES IT OVERHEATED FOR NO APEARANT REASON AND FORD COULDN'T FIND THAT PROBLEM EITHER. THEY FINALLY CHANGED OUT THE ENGINE SINCE ON ONE COULD FIGURE IT OUT. WE WANT TO GET RID OF THIS LEMON AND WANT FORD TO BUY IT FROM US AT FAIR MARKET VALUE. A MECHANIC FRIEND OF OURS SAID IT MIGHT BE THE "VARIABLE RESISTER" IN THE STEERING. IF THIS IS SO, WHY COULDN'T THE FORD DEALER FIGURE THAT OUT. I'VE READ FORUMS WHERE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS. WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL ITEM? A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THIS, INCLUDING THE DEALER, SO IF WE GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, THERE WILL BE REPERCUSSIONS.
DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT DOES NOT RETRACT. AS A RESULT I TESTED IT BY INSERTING THE BUCKLE AND PULLED ON THE BELT QUICKLY/SHARPLY TO DETERMINE IF IT WOULD LOCK UP. WHILE THE PASSENGER SIDE RETRACTS AND LOCKS UP, THE DRIVER SIDE DOES NOT. DON'T BELIEVE THE SEAT BELT WOULD RESTRAIN THE DRIVER IN AN ACCIDENT. ALSO IF SITTING WITH OUT RUNNING FOR A WHILE CAR WILL STALL AND TURN OFF. IN TRAFFIC THIS IS ALSO AN ISSUE, FREEWAY CLOSED ONE TIME AND HAD TO SIT IN STANDING TRAFFIC IN HWY AND CAR JUST TURNED OFF. SEVERAL TIMES WHEN PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY OR THE SCARIEST PART A SHOOING STRIP PARKING LOT ONTO A BUSY FEEDER ROAD THE CAR WILL STALL AND TURN OFF.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH A DRIVE BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
The contact's daughter owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that her daughter's vehicle would overheat while driving at various speeds as the low engine coolant light would appear on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to several independent mechanics where they discovered that coolant had leaked into the engine. After several repairs, the failure persisted. The contact then stated that while her daughter was driving 65 MPH, the vehicle shut-off without warning. Due to the failure, her daughter had the vehicle towed to a dealer where they informed her that her vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V431000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer had been notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE TURBO BOOST. I HAD SEEN THAT OTHER VEHICLES THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, YEAR AND MANUFACTURING DATE HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THAT ISSUE BUT MINE HAS NOT AND NOW I'M LOOKING AT A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX. I HAVE PURCHASED SEVERAL FORDS IN THE PAST BUT I'M CONCERNED THAT THE QUALITY IS STARTING TO WANE AND I'M DISAPPOINTED THE RECALL HASN'T BEEN EXPANDED WHEN IT'S EVIDENT THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
WHILE DRIVING IN MORNING RUSH HOUR (BUMPER TO BUMPER) TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY, MY VEHICLE DIED. THE CHECK ENGINE AND BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS FOR IT TO START AGAIN. I HAD MY BATTERY REPLACED A MONTH AGO AND THE ALTERNATOR CHECKED WITH NO ISSUES.
CAR LIGHTS INDICATE ENGINE IS OVERHEATING AND CAR MUST BE TURNED OFF IMMEDIATELY. CAR BEGINS TO SHAKE AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES. MECHANICS CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THIS TIME THE MECHANIC SAID THE SENSOR IS SENDING A FALSE REPORT AND THE ENGINE IS NOT OVERHEATING. OCCURS WITHIN 1-5MINUTES OF DRIVING ON SIDE ROADS GOING NO MORE THAN 35 MILES AN HOUR OR LESS EACH TIME.

I START THE CAR AND NOTHING SEAMS WRONG IT IDLES CORRECTLY AND TEMPERATURES STAY GOOD. ONCE I PUT THE CAR ON DRIVE AND GO OVER 10MPH I GET THE FIRST WARNING THAT COOLANT IS LOW. IF I IGNORE THA AND TRY TO GO ABOVE 15 MPH I GET A SECOND WARNING FOR HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURE. AFTER THAT THE CAR STALLS AND IT WON'T GO BACK TO NORMAL UNTIL I PARK. TURN OFF THE CAR. RESTART. AND IT WILL STAY NORMAL UNTIL I START DRIVING AGAIN.

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE HAD ALL MAINTENANCE PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP. FOR ABOUT A YEAR MY CAR HAS HAD AN ISSUE WHERE IT HESITATES WHEN I ACCELERATE. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD BLOW OUT THE MASS AIR FLOW THEN THE CAR WOULD RUN FINE FOR 2 OR 3 MONTHS THEN THE PROBLEM WOULD START OVER. ON MAY 8 WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN IT STARTED HESITATING WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE AND THE SHIFTING PROGRESSIVELY GOT ROUGHER. THEN WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE FORWARD FROM A RED LIGHT THE ENGINE WOULD REV BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS METAL DEBRIS STOPPING UP THE FILTER AND THAT IT COULD BE THE CLUTCHES OR SOME OTHER PART OF MY TRANSMISSION COMING APART. I'M TOLD MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REBUILT.

I HAVE OWNED MY 2013 ESCAPE FOR APPROX. 4.5 YEARS. I BOUGHT IT WITH APPROX. 40K MILES AND IT IS NOW AT 80K. FOR THE LAST 6 TO 9 MONTHS IT HAS BEEN ACTING AS THOUGH IT WILL STALL, THE RPMS WILL DROP, THE CAR WILL SHUDDER THEN RECOVER MOST OF THE TIME. IT HAS ACTUALLY SHUT OFF TWICE, ONCE IN A PARKING SPACE WHILE IDLING AND THE OTHER AT A STOP LIGHT WHILE IDLING. THE PLACES THE STALL ISSUE SEEMS TO OCCUR THE MOST IS AT STOP LIGHT, IDLING IN PARKING SPACES, SITTING IN DRIVE THROUGHS, ETC. IT HAS BUCKED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING BUT HAS MANAGED TO RECOVER WITHOUT LOSING TOO MUCH SPEED OR WITHOUT SHUTTING OFF. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND DEALERSHIPS, NO ONE CAN FIND THE REASON FOR THE "STALLING". YESTERDAY, WHEN COMING OUT OF WORK IN FLAT PARKING LOT, INSTEAD OF STALLING THE VEHICLE JERKED ONCE WHEN I PUT IT INTO DRIVE AND THEN THERE WAS NO POWER WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS TO DRIVE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE INCHED FORWARD BUT DID NOTHING ELSE. I THEN PUT IT IN REVERSE AND THE SAME THING OCCURRED. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, LET IT SIT FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES, RESTARTED IT AND DROVE IT WITHOUT ISSUE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME TODAY AND SAID THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS WORK. I HAVE YET TO FIND OUT WHAT THIS "WORK" ENTAILS BUT FROM READING ALL THE ENTRIES, RECALLS, AND INVESTIGATIONS THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME ISSUES OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THEIR ESCAPES.
