SAFETY RECALL 16S30/NHTSA RECALL 16V-643 HAS NOT BEEN DONE BY THE MANUFACTURE AS OF NOV 2017. DEALERS SAY THE CAN NOT GET THE PARTS TO DO THE RECALL.
WHEN DRIVING MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE THE VEHICLE WILL HESITATE AND HAS STALLED. THIS HAPPENS WHEN GOING FROM A STOP AND TRANSITIONING FROM 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. IT SOUNDS VERY SIMILAR TO RECALL NUMBER 14V495000 BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED. THESE HESITATIONS HAVE CAUSED OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD TO HAVE TO SLAM ON THEIR BREAKS AND THE VEHICLE STALLED ONCE WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN ALMOST RESULTING IN A COLLISION. THANKFULLY THE OTHER DRIVER SLAMMED ON THEIR BREAKS AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENS EVERY RIME WE DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND WHEN FORD WAS ASKED ABKUT IT THEY COULD CARE LESS. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY FORD IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND NOTICED THE BAD SMELL/FUMES 5 MONTHS LATER DURING A ROAD TRIP. I THOUGHT THE SMELL WAS DUE TO NEW VEHICLE. I ONLY NOTICE THE SMELL DURING HARD ACCELERATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN PASSING ON AND ENTERING MAJOR HIGHWAYS, A STRONG SMELL COMES THROUGH THE VENTS AND UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN. THE SMELL IS LIKE BURNT PLASTIC OR RUBBER. IT GIVES ME A HEADACHE AT TIMES. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS; FIRST IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE THE CABIN FILTER NEEDED CHANGING AFTER 10 MONTHS OF BUYING THE SUV NEW, THEN IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE CLOGGED AIR VENTS WHICH WAS FALSE, THEN IT WAS THE AIR FRESHENER THAT CAUSED IT TO SMELL WHICH I REMOVED, AND RECENTLY I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY HAD NO IDEA WHERE THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM, EVEN THOUGH THE SERVICE ADVISER AND MECHANIC WITNESS THE SMELL/FUME. I CHECKED SEVERAL WEB SITES AND DISCOVERED OTHER OWNERS OF 2014 FORD ESCAPE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I DRIVE WITH THE WINDOW CRACKED BECAUSE I'M CONCERNED ABOUT MY HEALTH AND MY FAMILY. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE.

THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE BURST INTO FLAMES AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND BATTERY WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOWING LOT AND WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL HER INSURANCE COMPANY AND DID NOT OFFER FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE ABS WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND DOES NOT GO OUT AS IT SHOULD. UPON PUTTING THE CAR IN GEAR AND MOVING FORWARD, THE SPEEDOMETER GOES OUT, TRIP COMPUTER GOES OUT, TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND THEN HILL ASSIST WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH FEAR OF BRAKES FAILING, NO SPEEDOMETER AND OTHER WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON.

AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, VEHICLE BECAME STUCK IN REVERSE. SHIFT ARM WAS STUCK IN REVERSE AND COULD NOT BE MOVED. MY FOOT HAD TO REMAIN PRESSED DOWN ON BRAKE PEDAL TO PREVENT VEHICLE FROM MOVING FARTHER BACKWARD AND HITTING NEARBY PARKED VEHICLES. VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF TO PREVENT FURTHER BACKWARD MOVEMENT, WHICH LEFT VEHICLE BLOCKING ONCOMING VEHICLES MOVING THROUGH LOT. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS A LOOSE SHIFTER ARM BOLT. BOLT WAS TIGHTENED.
BOUGHT 2014 FORD ESCAPE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED TO NOTIFY ME WHEN ALL FOUR OF MY TIRES WERE NOT INFLATED AT PROPER TIER PRESSURE CAUSING THE CAR NOT TO DRIVE CORRECTLY ON ROAD CAUSING ME TO SLIDE OFF ROAD DROVE CAR HOME SINCE WAS ONLY 2 MILES FROM HOUSE HUSBAND AND STEP SON CAME OUT TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED THEY BOTH CHECKED ALL 4 TIRES SAID EVERYONE WAS UNDER INFLATED WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF CAR NOT DRIVING PROPERLY HUSBAND ASK IF THE PANEL TOLD ME AND I SAID NO THEY PUT AIR IN ALL 4 TIRES .TAKING CAR TO FORD DEALER TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT WHILE FIXING 2 OTHER RECALLS.
SINCE SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IT BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THEY INCLUDED UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION, DECELERATION, ROUGH SHIFTING, TRANSMISSION AND FLUID LEAKS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES FROM 1 DAY TO OVER 90 DAYS AT A TIME. SEVERAL REPAIRS TOOK 5-7 WEEKS. INITIALLY THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND FORD MOTOR CO. COVERED THE REPAIRS AND PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FULLY RESOLVED AS THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE FORD SHOP SINCE APRIL 1, 2017 WHILE IT WAS BEING DIAGNOSED AND I TRIED TO DISCUSS THE ISSUES WITH FORD SINCE THEY REFUSED TO COVER THE REPAIRS. FORD DENIED OUR CLAIM TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 25,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE UNDER THE CALIFORNIA "LEMON LAW" STATUTES. THE ISSUES HAVE NEARLY CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE SHOP AT ONE POINT AS I FELT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION USUALLY TOOK PLACE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS OF 55-70 MPH. THE ROUGH SHIFTING WAS COMMONLY DURING A FIRST START OR WHEN APPROACHING OR PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. IT WOULD SHIFT ROUGH AT SPEEDS 20-35 ON RESIDENTIAL ROADWAYS. THE LEAKS WERE TYPICALLY DISCOVERED AFTER FREEWAY DRIVING. I HAVE NUMEROUS DOCUMENTS AND THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT ACCEPT THEM ALL SO I UPLOADED A FEW AS SAMPLES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE APRIL 1, 2017 SO I DO NOT HAVE THE DOCUMENTS SHOWING THE CURRENT ISSUES. FORD HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH AND HAS REFUSED TO COVER ANY REPAIRS. FORD MOTOR COMPANY INFORMED ME THAT THEY "SELF REPORT" CLAIMS LIKE THIS TO NHTSA AND PROVIDE NHTSA WITH MY CONTACT INFORMATION. THEY ALSO TOLD ME MY ONLY OPTIONS WOULD BE TO FILE A LAWSUIT AGAINST FORD OR REPORT THE ISSUE TO NHTSA AS A SAFETY CONCERN. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE HAS AN INHERENT DEFECT THAT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.

I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR IN MARCH 2017 AND WE TOOK IT ON A TRIP TO THE BEACH. ALMOST THERE THE CAR STARTED JUMPING INTO GEAR WHEN WE TOOK OFF AT THE RED LIGHT. THEY STARTED GETTING CLOSER AND MORE HARDER AT EACH STOP SO WE STOPPED AT A STORE TO CHECK IT.THERES NO DIP STICK TO CHECK THE TRANY WITH SO WE THOUGHT IT MIGHT OF GOT HOT EVEN THOUGH WE STOPPED OFTEN. IT SEEMED TO HELP THEN IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN AFTER SOME TIME.WE HAD ALREADY PAID FOR THE HOTEL SO WE WENT ON AND STAYED WITH OUT GOING MANY PLACES FOR FEAR OF NOT GETTING BACK HOME.ON THE WAY HOME IT STILL DID THE SAME BUT NOT ON THE INTERSTATE.SEEMS IT ONLY DID IT AT STOPS AND STARTS IN TOWNS AT LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS. THE FORD COMPANY HAS HAD MY CAR IN THE SHOP SINCE I GOT BACK HOME AND IVE MADE THE FIRST PAYMENT WITH 2 WEEKS DRIVING OUT OF IT.THEY SAY IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION, BUT BY THE CAR FAX PAPER IT WAS JUST REPLACED A MONTH AGO . ITS GONNA BE ANOTHER MONTH BEFORE I GET IT BACK, BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO ORDER IT. JUST HOPE I DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS ANY MORE. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN APRIL 2017 FROM FORD (17S09). IN MY OPINION THIS RECALL HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. 9 MONTHS OF DRIVING A VEHICLE WITH A RISK OF STARTING AN ENGINE FIRE IS TO LONG. DOES FORD HAVE AN UPDATED TIME FRAME FOR THE REPAIR. NHTSA RECALL # 17V209

MARCH 27, 2017 RECALL - NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 17S09 - COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR SYSTEM INSTALLATION - CONTINUE TO BE TOLD BY DEALERSHIPS THAT PARTS ARE BACK ORDERED - PROBLEM COULD CAUSE ENGINE FIRE - HOW LONG CAN THIS GO ON BEFORE FORD PROVIDES PARTS?
WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE INTERSTATE. ENGINE BEGAN TO JERK A BIT THEN WARNING MESSAGES APPEARED ON SCREEN. PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD. AFTER CAR STOPPED SMOKE BEGAN TO APPEAR FROM UNDER HOOD AND ENTERING CAB THROUGH THE VENTS. I OPENED THE WINDOW TO CLEAR THE SMOKE AND LOOKED FOR PHONE NUMBER TO ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE THINKING IT WAS ONLY A BELT THAT HAD MELTED OR BURNED. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES I BEGAN TO SEE FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD BY THE WINDSHIELD. I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND A SHERIFF'S DEPUTY HAPPENED TO BE PULLING IN BEHIND ME AFTER SEEING MY CAR IN DISTRESS. FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED. WITHIN FIVE TO TEN MINUTES THE ENGINE AREA OF THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. AFTER A SHORT INVESTIGATION ON THE SCENE THE FD BELIEVED THE CAUSE TO BE ELECTRICAL AND APPEARED TO HAVE BEGUN AND CAUSED THE MOST DAMAGE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT CORNER OF THE ENGINE.
ON TAKE OFF CAR WILL NOT ALWAYS GO INTO GEAR AND WHEN IT DOES IT DOES NOT HAVE MUCH POWER TO ACCELERATE LEAVING FOR A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION. IF THE MOTOR IS SHUT OFF AND THE "COMPUTER" RESETS IT WILL RESET AND DRIVE OK FOR A SHORT TIME BUT THE PROBLEM REAPPEARS. CAR IS NOW PARKED UNTIL WE CAN FIGURE WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. HATE PAYING FOR A CAR THAT I CAN'T DRIVE.

WELL, UPON RESEARCH, I SEE A RECALL WHICH MATCHES A LOT OF THE SYMPTOMS OF MY CARS ISSUES, BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON MY VIN. I BELIEVE THAT WHATEVER IS GOING ON WITH MY CAR IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE SAME ISSUE BEING RECALLED AND I NEED THIS INVESTIGATED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

IN ADDITION, THE TREAD SEPARATED IN CHUNKS FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER AND BOTH REAR TIRES. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TIRES DID NOT GRIP THE ROAD AND WOULD SLIP WHEN MAKING TURNS. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,288 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,748.

TIME OF INCIDENT WAS 8:00 PM VIEWING ENGINE UNDER BETTER LIGHT,COOLANT WAS CRITICALLY LOW.PURCHASED COOLANT FROM STORE WHERE REFILLED RESERVOIR, WAITED UNTIL HE WAS OFF WORK, 9:20 PM, SO CAN FOLLOW ME HOME IN CASE I NEED MORE ASSISTANCE. ARRIVE AT MY HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT, ENGINE LIGHT ON. IN FOLLOWING DAYS, I MONITOR COOLANT FOR 2 WEEKS& FIGURE ITS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. ENGINE LT REMAINS ON FOR 7 DAYS. AFTER 3WKS, NEED TO TOP OFF COOLANT AS IT DROPS UNDER FILL LINE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE @19KMI & TIME OF INCIDENT HAD 35K MILES. FORD RECALL 17S09 WAS ISSUED OVER A YEAR AGO. 15 MONTHS LATER, FORD HAS GIVEN ME THE RUNAROUND ABOUT FIXING THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THEM FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS, HAVE ACTUALLY GOTTEN APPOINTMENTS AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE DISREGARDED MY PROBLEM AND WILL NOT RESPOND TO MY NEEDS. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED FORD MANFUACTURING. ON RECORDED CALLS THEY HAVE FAILED TO EITHER HELP ME WITH MY PROBLEM OR HAD A SUPERVISOR CONTACTED ME AS REQUESTED. HELP?
A RECALL WAS INITIATED FOR MY CAR FOR LOCALIZED OVERHEATING IN ENGINE CYLINDER CAUSING CYLINDER HEAD TO CRACK, AND PRESSURIZED OIL LEAKS THAT CAN RESULT IN A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I INITIALLY BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR MY ENGINE OVERHEATING WHERE MY CAR WAS GIVING ME A WARNING SIGN TO PULL OVER AND IMMEDIATELY TURN OFF MY CAR. THEY REPLACED THE COOLANT HOSE. TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED AND THEY THEN REPLACED THE COOLANT TANK. FAST FORWARD ONE YEAR AND THE ISSUE BEGAN TO HAPPEN ONCE AGAIN. I TOOK MY CAR BACK IN AND THE COOLANT TANK WAS REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME IN MAY OF 2018. I HAD NO ISSUES UNTIL DECEMBER OF 2018 WHERE ONCE AGAIN THE CAR GAVE ME THE SAME WARNING SIGN AND ONCE AGAIN NEEDS THE COOLANT HOSE REPLACED DUE TO IT LEAKING. THEY HAVE TOLD ME I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THIS ON MY OWN AND PAYING FOR IT. EACH TIME I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURS AND I HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER AND TURN MY CAR OFF TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE AS WELL AND I CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR FOR NUMEROUS DAYS WHILE I WAIT FOR THEM TO REPAIR IT. MY FORD HAD 3200 MILES ON THE CAR AND BOTH BACK BRAKE ROTORS HAD TO BE MACHINED. I WANTED NEW ROTOR AND BRAKES ON THE CAR BUT HOFFMAN FORD REFUSED TO PUT NEW ROTORS AND BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE. I THINK THE ROTORS ARE SOFT MATERIAL AND NOT HARDED ENOUGH FROM THE FACTORY. REMEMBER IT ONLY HAD 3200 MILES AND THIS SHOULD BE ON A RECALL LIST FOR POSSIBLE SAFETY VIOLATION AND EXTRA COSTS TO THE CUSTOMER. SOFT ROTORS FROM THE FORD MOTOR AND HOFFMAN FORD IN HARRISBURG PA COULD BE A NATIONAL SAFETY PROBLEM AND EXPENSIVE REPAIRS FOR VEHICLE OWNERS. I WILL GO TO THE NEW PAPER IF NOT CORRECTED. I WANT NEW ROTORS AND PADS ON MY CAR WHILR ITS UNDER BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY 3 YEARS OR 36000 MILES.

AAA OPERATOR REPORTED THAT LUG NUT WAS SWOLLEN; COULDN'T REMOVE WITH STANDARD EQUIPMENT. DEALER TODAY SAID ALL LUG NUTS NEEDED REPLACING AS THEY WERE "SWOLLEN" DUE TO CORROSION UNDERNEATH THE CAP. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE SUPPLIED TIRE IRON CAN'T REMOVE THEM. SOMETIMES THEY MUST BE SAWED OFF TO REPLACE. APPARENTLY, SAME HAPPENED WITH MY 2010 FORD FUSION. MANY SIMILAR REPORTS ON THE INTERNET.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (4 LANE HIGHWAY) AND MY VEHICLE JOLTED ALL THE SENSORS LIT UP INCLUDING A BLUE ONE SO I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED VEHICLE OFF THEN SAW FLAMES AND EXITED VEHICLE.
WE PURCHASED A 2014 FORD ESCAPE FROM SCAFFIDI MOTORS IN STEVENS POINT. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR NUMEROUS TIMES BECAUSE FREQUENTLY WHEN YOU SHUT THE BACK DOORS THE INSIDE DOOR PANEL COMES LOOSE WHEREIN YOU HAVE DIFFICULTY OPENING AND THE INSIDE DOOR PANEL GETS DAMAGED OR YOU CANNOT OPEN THE DOORS. FAILURE OF THE MULTIPLE FUNCTIONAL DISPLAY. THE DISPLAY WAS FLICKERING AND DIFFICULT TO SEE FOR A FEW WEEKS, BUT THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ONE DAY WHEN I STARTED THE CAR IT WENT COMPLETELY BLACK AND HAS REMAINED SO SINCE THAT TIME. I CAN NO LONGER SEE THE DISPLAY, WHICH IS COMPLETELY BLACK. THIS INCLUDES THE ODOMETER, IMPORTANT INDICATORS, AND WHAT GEAR THE CAR IS IN. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE THAT OCCURRED A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER THE CAR LEFT THE WARRANTY PERIOD BY DATE (>3 YEARS). WITH NO WAY TO READ THE ODOMETER, THIS MAKES IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SELL THE VEHICLE AT FAIR MARKET VALUE. THE NHTSA HAS ISSUED RECALLS ON THE MULTIPLE FUNCTIONAL DISPLAY FOR OTHER 2014 FORD ESCAPES, HOWEVER MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I BELIEVE MY CAR HAS THE SAME FAULTY MULTIPLE FUNCTIONAL DISPLAY THAT THE RECALLED VEHICLES HAVE.
