TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVER'S SEAT FELL BACKWARDS DUE TO THE IMPACT. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND CRASHED INTO THE GUARDRAIL. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. IN ADDITION, THE KEY FAILED TO RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE DOORS FAILED TO OPEN, WHICH PREVENTED THE CONTACT FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BACK AND CHEST INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A TOW LOT. WHILE DRIVING 50MPH JUST BEFORE 90DEG. CORNER LIGHT CAME ON DASH POWER STEERING JUST QUIT. WAS BARELY ABLE TO PULL OVER AND STOP. I SHUT CAR OFF AND CHECK FOUND NOTHING. WHEN I RESTART PROBLEM WENT AWAY TOOK CAR TO DEALER BUT IT READ NO CODES SO THEY WONT DO ANYTHING. SO WHEN WILL IT HAPPEN AGAIN? FIND HARD TO BELIEVE WHEN HOOK UP IT ONLY READS WHAT IS WRONG AND NO HISTORY OF WHAT HAPPENED.

CONTINENTAL CONTIPROCONTACT 235/50R18 97H DOT: 431PWBK32014 20K ON 2 YR OLD PURCHASE NEW 2014 FORD ESCAPE TITANIUM. TIRE TREADS HAVE CHUNKS MISSING ALL OVER 2 TIRES, PREVIOUSLY ON REAR TIRES NOW ROTATED 1000 MILES AGO TO THE FRONT. UNSURE HOW LONG THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I CAN'T SEE MY TREADS NORMALLY BUT I HAPPENED TO HAVE HAD MY STEERING WHEEL TURNED OUT AND NOTICED THIS SCARY DEFECT. NORMAL USE IS ON CITY STREETS, BLACK TOP. RARELY ON A GRAVEL ROAD. I HAVE PICTURES AND I HOPE I CAN UPLOAD THEM AS I CONTINUE ON THROUGH THIS FORM.

RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR SUDDENLY FLEW OPEN WHILE DRIVING. INDICATOR LIGHT DID COME ON. DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH WHEN CLOSED AND HAD TO BE TIED TO OPPOSITE DOOR TO HOLD CLOSED. TOOK CAR TO DEALER, SERVICE WRITER CLAIMED TO SEE NO PROBLEM ADVISED MY HUSBAND TO TAKE HOME AND "PLAY" WITH IT. THAT WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I RETURNED TO DEALER JULY 21, 2016 AND SPOKE TO SERVICE WRITER A SECOND TIME AFTER FINDING MANY COMPLAINTS ON FAILING DOOR LATCHES AND POLITELY ADVISED THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF THIS AS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND THAT I WANTED FORD TO INVESTIGATE AND MAKE REPAIRS. THE REP SAID THEY WERE TOO BUSY THAT DAY BUT DID SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME TO BRING THE CAR BACK STATING THAT THE PRIOR ISSUES WERE NOT WITH THE FORD ESCAPE AND REPAIR COST WOULD DEPEND IF MY CAR REMAINED UNDER WARRANTY. I SAID WE COULD DISCUSS THAT FURTHER AFTER FORD IDENTIFIED THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND REPAIRED IT AND ALSO CHECKED THE LATCHES ON THE OTHER DOORS TO BE CERTAIN I WOULD NOT BE IN DANGER OF OTHER DOOR LATCH FAILURES. THE DEALER ALSO ASKED IF WE "MESSED WITH" THE LATCH MECHANISM. I TOLD THEM, NO, DESPITE THE FACT WE WERE FIRST TOLD TO GO HOME AND PLAY WITH IT. SINCE IT'S CLEAR FORD IS AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS, IT IS DISAPPOINTING THAT THEY DON'T JUST SAY SO THE FIRST TIME YOU TAKE THE CAR IN AND THEN EVEN THE SECOND TIME JUST SAY, YES WE ARE AWARE AND WE WILL BE HAPPY TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR YOU. IT IS CLEARLY A DESIGN DEFECT OR A BAD PART. IT IS ALSO A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO HAVE A DOOR FLY OPEN.

SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2014, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED 5 TIMES, AND EACH TIME THE CRACK PROPAGATED SO QUICKLY THAT IT COULD NOT BE CONTAINED. THE CRACKS ARE INITIATED THROUGH THE SMALLES STONES THROWN FROM VEHICLES AHEAD. ALL INCIDENCES HAPPENED WHILE IN MOTION AND AT LEAST 3 IN INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. SO FAR WE REPLACED IT WITH 2 OEM WINDSHIELDS AND THE OTHERS WERE AFTERMARKET. THERE DID NOT APPEAR TO BE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM IN TERMS OF CHIP OR CRACK RESISTANCE. I STRUGGLE TO BELIEVE THAT THIS COULD BE PURE COINCIDENCE. HAVING TO REPLACE A WINDSHIELD AN AVERAGE OF EVERY 6 MONTHS IS NOT REGULAR MAINTENANCE.

THE BACK DRIVER'S SIDE PASSENGER DOOR POPPED OPEN AND WOULD NOT CLOSE. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A CITY STREET AND HAD TO PULL OVER. I COULD NOT CLOSE IT COMPLETELY EVEN BY USING A BUNGEE CORD AS A TEMPORARY FIX.

WE PARKED OUR CAR AND THE DOOR CLOSED AND WE LOCKED IT WITH THE REMOTE AS USUAL AND WHEN WE CAME BACK WE OPENED THE DOOR AND IT WORKED FINE OPENING IT WHEN WE CLOSED THE DOOR HOWEVER THE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH AT ALL THERE WAS NOTHING JAMMING THE DOOR OR ANYTHING IT JUST MALFUNCTIONED WE HAD TO HOLD IT CLOSED WITH OUR HANDS AND WE IMMEDIATLY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE WHOLE WAY DRIVING IT THERE WE GOT ALERTS FROM MY KEY THE DOOR WAS OPENED WHERE WE HAD BOUGHT IT FROM THEY SAID THEY DIDNT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG AND IT TOOK ALMOST A WEEK TO FIX WE HAD TO GET A RENTAL . I THINK THIS IS HAPPENING JUST LIKE THE FORD EXPLORERS A LATCH PROBLEM WE EVENTUALLY GOT IT FIXED AND TRADED IT IN FOR A 2016 FORD EXPLORER HOPEFULLY THIS ONE DOSE NOT MALFUNCTION LIKE THE ESCAPE I LOVE FORD AND ALWAYS WILL ITS JUST MABEY THEY NEED TO TAKE A BREAK AND REALLY CATCH UP ON WHATS REALLY IMPORTANT : PERFORMANCE FOR A WHILE THEY ARE PROBABLY STRESSED RIGHT NOW WITH ALL THE NEW MODELS AND BRINGING IN THE FOCUS RS TO THE US AND NOW BRINGING BACK THE RANGER AND REMODELING THE LICOLN NAVIGATOR AND THE EXPEDITION SO ITS OKAY BUT THEY NEED TO CATCH A BREAK AND CATCH UP WITH PERFORMANCE FOR A WHILE.
TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DISCOVERED THAT THE AIR CLEANER WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE HAD BEEN BURNING LONG ENOUGH FOR PLASTIC TO BE INGESTED INTO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBERS. THERE WAS NO SERIOUS INVESTIGATION UNDERTAKEN AND THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE REMAINS UNKNOWN. ADDITIONALLY, FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSED TO FIX THE ENGINE UNDER THE TERMS OF THEIR WARRANTY.
THE EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR DOES NOT PROPERLY WORK CAUSING THE AC TO BLOW HOT AIR AND IN THE SUMMER THAT CAUSE PEOPLE TO OVER HEAT OR PASS OUT FROM HEAT EXHAUSTION BECAUSE THE PART IS NOT WORKING.
MY ESCAPE SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. THE ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE PRESENTS A CLEAR AND POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING EVENT AS ALL POWER WAS SUDDENLY LOST. AT THE TIME OF ENGINE FAILURE I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE AC COMPRESSOR LOCKING UP CREATING TENSION ON THE DRIVE BELTS THAT RESULTED IN SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND ENGINE SHUT DOWN. HAD THIS OCCURRED ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH SEMI TRUCKS BARRELING UPON YOU, THE RESULTS WOULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. FORTUNATELY FOR ME THE FAILURE OCCURRED 1/2 MILE BEFORE ENTERING THE INTERSTATE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED OTHER OWERS OF FORD PRODUCTS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC SAFETY. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND IT CURRENTLY HAS LESS THAN 13,800 MILES ON THE ODOMETER.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HEAVY WHITISH, BLUE SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE EXHAUST. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED ON FOUR OCCASIONS. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL INITIATED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V209000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) FOR THE EXACT SAME FAILURE, BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
VEHICLE WAS STARTED WITH REMOTE START IN DRIVEWAY. DRIVER OPENED FRONT PASSENGER DOOR . PLACE PURSE WITH KEY ON SEAT AND ANIMAL CARRIER WITH SICK PET ON FRONT FLOOR. WHEN DOOR WAS CLOSED ALL 4 DOORS LOCKED. ATTEMPTS TO OPEN THE DOORS WERE MADE BY 3 SEPARATE PEOPLE WITH NO SUCCESS. HAD TO BREAK BACK WINDOW TO GET IN. COST US $500 FOR THE WINDOW. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE OFFERED NO ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR.

ON APRIL 5, 2016, MY SUV FAILED TO START, SO I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD. THE BATTERY HAD EXTENSIVE CORROSION. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED AAA, AND THE TECHNICIAN REPLAVED THE BATTERY. OCTOBER 5, 2016, I NOTICED THAT MY SUV WAS HESITANT TO START NORMALLY. AFTER INSPECTING MY BATTERY, A SMALL AMOUNT OF CORROSION WAS AGAIN PRESENT. ASSUMING THIS WAS MORE THAN A SIMPLE BATTERY ISSUE, I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ' BRANDON FORD IN TAMPA, FL. I EXPLAINED THE TECHNICIAN MY RECENT HISTORY WITH THE BATTERY AND SHOWED HIM THE PICTURES. I EXPLICITLY INFORMED HIM THAT I DID NOT WANT A 'BAND-AID FIX' FOR THIS ISSUE. AFTER HIS ASSESSMENT, THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT HE WOULD CLEAN THE CONNECTIONS AND INSTALL ANTI-CORROSION PADS AND THAT WOULD SOLVE THE ISSUE. ON DECEMBER 30 2016, I VISITED BRANDON FORD BECAUSE MY VEHICLE'S 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT HAD BEEN ILLUMINATED, AND THE SUV WAS EXPERIENCING STUTTERING WHILE DRIVING BOTH ON MY RESIDENTIAL STREET AND ON THE HIGHWAY. A BIT OF CORROSION WAS PRESENT AGAIN. THE FORD TECH CALLED ME AFTER DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM AND EXPLAINED TO ME THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE AROUND $400 TO FIX THE ISSUE ' A POOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTION ' BY REPLACING THE ENGINE HARNESS SIGNAL RETURN SPLICES. HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. NONETHELESS, I CHOSE TO COMPLETE THE SERVICE. ON FEBRUARY 9TH, I REACHED OUT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO EXPLAIN MY ISSUE. I HAVE ATTACHED ALL CORRESPONDENCE TO AND FROM FORD. THEY DO NOT FEEL IT IS A WARRANTY OR MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I WISH TO HAVE THAT RE-EVALUATED.
SOMEONE AT A REST STOP IN NASH COUNTY NC POINTED OUT A BULGE IN THE SIDE OF OUR RIGHT REAR TIRE. WE WERE UNAWARE OF THE BULGE. WE REMOVED THE TIRE AND REPLACED IT BEFORE IT COULD BLOW OUT. WE HAD BEEN TRAVELING ON I-95 FROM SUMMERVILLE SC EN ROUTE TO DELAWARE. THE TIRE WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON OUR VEHICLE.
ENGINE IS REVVING UP TO 4000+ RMPS BEFORE SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS. THE SHIFTING SLIPS AND THE VEHICLE LURCHES WHILE SHIFTING, SOMETIMES VERY ROUGH. TAKEN INTO THE SHOP AND FORD REPLACED SEVERAL PARTS (TORC CONVERTER AND OTHERS). WHILE IN THE SHOP SUDDENLY THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH EXHAUST FUMES POTENTIALLY BLOWING INTO THE CAB MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. FIXED THE ISSUES AND I PICKED UP MY CAR. NOW MY TURBO HAS NO GUT, AND IS SLOW ON THE PICK UP WHEN ACCELERATING. WILL BE TAKING BACK TO THE SHOP AGAIN.
VEHICLE JERKS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND 3RD. ON HARD ACCELERATIONS THE VEHICLE WILL JERK AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL.

AFTER REACHING DOWN BETWEEN THE SEAT AND CENTER CONSOLE TO GRAB SOMETHING THAT FELL, I SEVERELY CUT MY HAND AND ENDED UP NEEDING 4 STITCHES. THE GASH WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO MY TENDON. THERE IS EXPOSED, UNFINISHED METAL IMMEDIATELY UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT AND IT IS VERY EASY TO CUT YOUR HAND ON.
JUST PURCHASED A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 2014 FORD ESCAPE SE. A YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEAR. TROUBLE CODE P26B7 (DEALER SPECIFIC). IT LOOKS LIKE THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THE BYPASS COOLANT SOLENOID OR COOLANT LEAKS. ALSO, STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS ONLY OCCASIONALLY WORK.
WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON CRUISE CONTROL AND YOU PUSH THE ACCELERATOR TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS IT SOUNDS LIKE TWO MANHOLE COVERS SLAMMING TOGETHER WITH A STRONG SHUDDER. IT DOES NOT OCCUR EVERY TIME. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE IT.

WATER LEAKING INSIDE ABOVE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR TOWARDS WINDSHIELD. DEALER CLAIMS IT IS COMING FROM ROOF RACK. IT HAS BEEN RESEALED TWICE BUT CONTINUES TO LEAK. TRACK FROM RACK DOES NOT LIE FLAT, LEAKS ARE STAINING INTERIOR. DO NOT YET SEE MOLD OR RUST, BUT IT IS POSSIBLE.

ACCELERATION WAS FINE UNTIL I HIT 20,000 MILES. HOWEVER WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL AFTER STARTING THE CAR THE RPMS GO AWAY AND THEN COME WAY BACK DOWN AND THEN IT ACCELERATES AND JERKS FORWARD. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. I TOOK IT TO THE TOWN & COUNTRY FORD DEALER HERE WHO SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE. I TEST DROVE WITH THE MECHANIC AND IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ONCE. IT ACCELERATED BETTER THAN IT DID BEFORE SO I'M NOT SURE IF SOMETHING WAS ADJUSTED. OF COURSE IT HAS COME BACK. IT HAPPENS WHEN I DRIVE IT AND MY SON TOLD ME IT JERKED A LOT WHEN HE DROVE IT LAST NIGHT. GIVEN THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE 15 YEARS WITH THE FORD ESCAPE FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING TO FIX IT. EVEN THOUGH MY DAD WORKED FOR FORD FOR 30 YEARS AND I'VE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER I DON'T TRUST THIS CAR SO I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD.
