WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY I ACCIDENTALLY DEPRESSED THE KEYLESS START-STOP BUTTON. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WERE LOST AND ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART BY PUSHING START-STOP BUTTON. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW CAR - WITH OTHER CARS CLOSE BEHIND- SHIFT GEAR SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND APPLY BRAKE PEDAL SO THAT START-STOP BUTTON WOULD RESTART ENGINE. I HAVE HAD FORD DEALERSHIP CHECK KEYLESS START-STOP SYSTEM AND THEY INDICATE THAT SYSTEM WORKS AS IT SHOULD. START - STOP BUTTON IS LOCATED IN DRIVERS RIGHT KNEE AREA AND IS TWO INCHES FROM SIMILAR LOOKING CLIMATE CONTROL BUTTON. POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WERE LOST WITH ENGINE OFF AND CAR IN MOTION. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY REFERRED US TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EMITTED A BURNING RUBBER ODOR THROUGH THE VENTS AND CAUSED THE ODOR TO PENETRATE THE INTERIOR FABRIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION SEVERAL TIMES, HOWEVER THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NEW REASON WHY IT HAD THE BURNING RUBBER ODOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR COMING FROM THE EXHAUST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY WAS UNSTABLE AND MADE RATTLING AND POPPING NOISES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE CAUSED THE SEAT BELTS TO LOCK IN ONE PLACE AND WOULD NOT ADJUST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A REGIONAL INSPECTOR WAS DISPATCHED TO INSPECT THE FAILURE. THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED AGAIN, INCLUDING ADDING INSULATION TO REDUCE THE NOISE. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES AND WAS REPAIRED THREE TIMES, BUT THE NOISE COULD STILL BE HEARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
VEHICLE STOPPED AT STOP SIGN. ENGINE DIED. MOVED GEAR SELECTOR FROM DRIVE TO PARK AND RESTARTED WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. *TR
FRIDAY EVENING I NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING DOWN FROM THE FRONT OF MY CAR. THE HARD PLASTIC AND WHAT I WILL DESCRIBE AS FIRE RESISTANT INSULATOR WAS 1/2 OFF. THE PINK PLASTIC BOLT IN THE FRAME WAS BROKEN AND FURTHER BACK WHERE IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN ATTACHED WITH A METAL BOLT; THE HOLE AROUND IT ON THE PLASTIC WAS TOO LARGE. NOW THERE ARE VARIOUS ELECTRONIC PARTS, BELTS, ETC EXPOSED. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT SOMETHING HIT THE CAR OR PERHAPS HAD BEEN BACKED INTO BY ANOTHER VEHICLE NOT LEAVING VISIBLE DAMAGE, BUT CAUSING PRESSURE UNDERNEATH, OR THE HARSH MINNESOTA WINTER CAUSED THIS AS THEY ARE SEEING MANY THINGS BREAK.THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF ANY DAMAGE AND THEY REFUSED TO PUT IT UP ON THE JACK TO INSPECT. I DO NOT FEEL THAT FORD IS WILLING TO EVEN INVESTIGATE THEIR DEFECTIVE PARTS, IN FACT. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT A WARRANTY PROBLEM BUT RATHER AN INSURANCE ISSUE. SINCE I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING WITH ALL OF THIS EXPOSED I HAVE TIED IT UP TO MY GRILL WITH TWINE. *TR
FOR THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE CAR'S WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID "ENGINE FAILURE - SERVICE IMMEDIATELY." I ATTEMPTED TO PROCEED TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE BUT, BEFORE I MADE IT OFF OF OUR STREET, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND SHUDDER VIOLENTLY, THEN DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO COAST TO A SMALL PARKING AREA. AS IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN, IT REQUIRED A TOW TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A SENSOR ISSUE AND ENSURED THAT IT WAS REPAIRED AND WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. TODAY (MAY 10TH) A SIMILAR ISSUE OCCURRED, THOUGH THIS TIME IT WAS WHILE I WAS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. AGAIN, THE SAME WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN AND GET THE CAR HOME BUT, BEFORE I COULD DO THIS, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AGAIN AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THIS REQUIRED ANOTHER TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR; THE VEHICLE IS PRESENTLY IN THE SHOP. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE THE ENGINE STARTED STUMBLING AND WENT INTO SOME TYPE OF LIMP MODE AND LOST POWER. I HAD TO RAPIDLY PULL BACK INTO THE SLOWER LANE TO AVOID HAVING CARS BEHIND ME REAR-END ME. I STOPPED THE CAR, TURNED IT OFF , AND WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER BUT THEY STATED THERE WAS NO ERROR CODES STORED IN THE ECU SO THEY COULDN'T DIAGNOSE OR FIX THE PROBLEM. THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN JUST LIKE BEFORE- I WAS PASSING A SLOWER VEHICLE AND SUDDENLY THE CAR WENT INTO A LIMP MODE AND I LOST POWER AND HAD TO QUICKLY PULL BACK INTO THE SLOW LANE TO AVOID HAVING CARS FROM BEHIND REAR-END ME. THIS TIME I HAD MY WIFE USE HER PHONE TO VIDEO THE ENGINE FAILURE LIGHTS ON THE DASH.AGAIN I HAD TO STOP MY CAR, TURN IT OFF, AND WHEN I RESTARTED THE CARS IT WAS OK. AND AGAIN I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT FORD DEALER, I SHOWED THEM THE VIDEO OF THE PROBLEM OCCURRING, BUT AGAIN THEY COULDN'T FIND AN ERROR CODE SO THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO TAKE THIS CAR ON TRIPS BECAUSE SHE IS AFRAID THE PROBLEM WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND SHE WILL BE REAR-ENDED. I DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER DRIVERS DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE TWO FORD DEALERS WE TOOK THE CAR NEVER TOLD US THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THERE HAVE RECALLS FOR THE OLDER ESCAPES FOR THE SAME ISSUE. NHTSA CAN YOU HELP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW FORD ESCAPE IN FEBRUARY 2014. SINCE DAY ONE I HAVE NOTICED AN EXHAUST SMELL IN CABIN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PUT INTO REVERSE AND OCCASIONALLY WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. SIMILAR TO WHAT OTHER CUSTOMER COMPLAINED. I WILL BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF MY FORD DEALERSHIP WHEN IT GOES IN FOR MAINTENANCE SERVICE WHEN IT REACHES 10,000 MILES, BUT MAYBE SOONER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. *TR
UPDATE ON ODI NUMBER 10567429. FORD CASE # [XXX]. FORD WILL NOT, AT MY EXPENSE, ALLOW THE DEALER TO INSTALL EITHER FORD OEM DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL) IN MY NEW VEHICLE OR AN AFTER MARKET PRODUCT. THEY SAY ANY SUCH INSTALL BY DEALER OR OTHERS WILL VOID MY EXTENDED NEW CAR WARRANTY. I WAS IN MAINE LAST WEEK & IN A SNOW SQUALL AT NOON & WAS ALMOST KILLED BY A LOGGING TRUCK WHO COULD NOT SEE MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF POOR VISIBILITY. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE IT'S APPROACH SENSOR WENT OFF. I THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO BEING IN TRAFFIC BUT THEN IT WENT OFF ON A CONSTANT HIGH PITCH SQUEAL. IT LASTED FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES THEN SHUT OFF. THEN WHEN I WAS ON THE HANDS FREE TELEPHONE DEVICE THROUGH THE FORD CONSAL IT WENT OFF AGAIN AND I COULD NOT STOP THE VERY HIGH PITCH SQUEAL AND I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND PUT IT IN PARK. THEN IT HAPPENED WHILE SITTING AT A STOP SIGN. THE SQUEAL WAS SO LOUD I WANTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO FORD AND ASK FOR A REFUND. I COULD NOT STOP THE SOUND AND IT SOUNDED LIKE MY SPEAKERS WERE ON HIGH BUT I COULDN'T LOWER THE VOLUME. THIS WAS A NEW VEHICLE AND JUST DROVE IT OFF THE LOT ABOUT A MONTH OR LESS. IT HASN'T HAPPENED SINCE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A GRINDING NOISE WHENEVER THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE ENGINE WARM THE NOISE WOULD STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,352.
THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MULTI-FUNCTION DISPLAY (MFD) WENT BLANK. EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN FORD RECALL 15C03. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN THEIR LUCASVILLE OH PLANT DURING THE DATES MENTIONED IN THEIR RECALL, HOWEVER, MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. SINCE THIS IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM LISTED I SUSPECT THEY MAY NOT HAVE BEEN CORRECT. FORD IS NOT RESPONSIVE EXCEPT TO SAY MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT INTERSECTION. UPON ATTEMPTING TO INITIATE RIGHT TURN, ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED AS IF IN NEUTRAL GEAR, AND VEHICLE HAD NO ACCELERATION. DEALER DIAGNOSED A LEFT-SIDE AXLE SEAL LEAK AND SAID THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS "ALL OVER". WHEN ASKED IF THIS WAS UNUSUAL FOR A NEW VEHICLE, DEALER REMARKED THAT IT WAS NOT, AND SAID THAT IT WAS THE THIRD SEAL LEAK THEY HAD SEEN IN A WEEK. *TR
THIS IS THE 3RD TIME WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER HAS FAILED FOR MY NEW 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER DID NOT MOVE WHEN TURN ON THE WIPER AND THE DRIVER SIDE WILL MOVE ONCE AND STUCK AT THE UP RIGHT POSITION. AFTER IT GOT STUCK, IT'LL NOT RESPOND TO ANY WIPER CONTROLS. I SHUT DOWN MY ENGINE AND THE WIPER THEN RETRACTED TO THE OFF POSITION. SENT THE CAR TO THE DEALER LAST SATURDAY BUT NOTHING WAS DONE SINCE THEY COULDN'T REPLICATED THE PROBLEM. *TR
ON FEBRUARY 3, 2014 WHILE DRIVING ON I-95 A STONE FLEW UP OFF THE ROAD AND CRACKED THE WINDSHIELD. HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPAIRED BY SAFELITE. ON MARCH 12, 2014 THE SAME THING HAPPENED A SECOND TIME ON A DIFFERENT STRETCH OF I-95. HAD SAFELITE REPAIR THE WINDSHIELD. THIS MORNING APRIL 6, 2014 AGAIN ON I-95 AND THE WINDSHIELD GOT CRACKED FOR A THIRD TIME. HAVE DRIVEN FOR 53 YEARS WITH ONLY ONE CRACKED WINDSHIELD PREVIOUSLY AND HAVE HAD THREE WITHIN 62 DAYS!!! GREATLY CONCERNED THAT ANYTHING LARGER THAN A SMALL PEBBLE MAY CAUSE THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD TO DISINTEGRATE WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. WILL TAKE TO FORD DEALER TOMORROW OR TUESDAY FOR THEM TO EXAMINE. *TR
PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, ENGINE DIES WITH NO WARNING. PUT INTO NEUTRAL TO RESTART. PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY ONTO THE HARDTOP ROAD, ENGINE DIES WITH NO WARNING. TRAVELING AT 20 MPH OR LESS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 2 MONTHS NOW. DOESN'T HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR GOES TO THE DEALERSHIP...CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS CAUSING IT. *TR
DUE TO COLD WEATHER, WALKED OUT AND STARTED CAR, RIGHT FOOT ON BRAKE, RIGHT INDEX FINGER ON STARTER BUTTON, LEFT FOOT ON OUTSIDE PARKING LOT AND LEFT HAND HOLDING CELL PHONE. AFTER STARTING CAR, CLOSED DOOR, WENT BACK INTO OFFICE FOR OVER 3-5 MINUTES, DID FIVE WEB SEARCHES BEFORE SISTER WHO WORKS IN OFFICE CAME IN TO MY OFFICE AND TOLD ME MY CAR HAD BACKED A PERFECT U, MISSED 6 VEHICLES PARKED OUTSIDE AND HIT OUR OFFICE BUILDING. MY CAR IS JUST THE DISTANCE OF THE SIDEWALK AND WALL PLUS A FEW FEET WITH WINDOW BETWEEN US, I HEARD THE CAR RUNNING WHILE IN OFFICE. WHEN I GOT TO CAR OUT SIDE IT WAS IN REVERSE, DOORS LOCKED AND IDLING, NO EXPLANATION OF HOW IT WENT FROM OPPOSITE DIRECTION THAN DIRECTION I PULLED IN, MISSED ALL VEHICLES. FORD SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR, I HAD THREE ADDITIONAL PEOPLE IN MY OFFICE PICTURES AND VIDEO OF TRACKS THAT ARE VERIFICATION THAT IT DID IT BY ITSELF, AS BEST WE CAN FIGURE THE PARK ASSIST TOOK OVER, HAD I ACCIDENTALLY KNOCKED IT INTO REVERSE IT WOULD HAVE STARTED BACKING UP WITH ME HALF IN AND HALF OUT OF THE CAR, ALSO AM SURE THAT IT WAS IN PARK AS CAN'T START IT IN REVERSE, I AM FRUSTRATED WITH THE DEALERSHIP HERE THAT IS NOT REALLY WILLING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED, ALL THEY WILL TELL ME IS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON. I AM REQUESTING INFORMATION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED BY ANYONE ELSE AND WHERE I MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET FURTHER INFORMATION AS TO WHAT CAN BE CHECKED OUT TO FIGURE OUT WHAT MIGHT HAVE MADE IT START MOVING ON IT'S OWN. *TR
2014 FORD ESCAPE MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 03/2013 & 12/2013 HAVE A BODY CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE/HARDWARE BUG IN WHICH THE INTERIOR INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER DOES NOT RETAIN ITS MANUAL DIMMER SETTINGS. AFTER 20-30 MINUTES WITH THE VEHICLE POWERED OFF, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIMMER SETTING REVERTS TO MAXIMUM BRIGHTNESS AUTOMATICALLY. MORE THAN AN INCONVENIENCE, THIS BUG IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. IF A DRIVER PERCEIVES THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TO BE TOO BRIGHT, THE DRIVER MUST MANUALLY DIM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL EVERY TIME IT IS DARK ENOUGH THAT THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS ARE REQUIRED TO DRIVE. FORD HAS FIXED THE BUG IN VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AFTER 12/1/2014 BUT HAS NOT PROVIDED A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM AND THE 4/2014 DEALER NOTICE INSTRUCTS THE DEALER NOT TO ATTEMPT A REPAIR. "4791 - 2014 ESCAPE 2014 FOCUS - ILLUMINATION DIMMER SETTING REVERTS BACK TO BRIGHT SOME 2014 ESCAPE VEHICLES BUILT ON OR BEFORE 12/01/2013 AND 2014 FOCUS VEHICLES BUILT ON OR BEFORE 12/08/2013 MAY EXHIBIT THE ILLUMINATION DIMMER SETTING REVERTING BACK TO BRIGHT AFTER A KEY CYCLE. ENGINEERING IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THIS CONDITION THROUGH THE QUICKER SERVICE FIX (QSF) PROCESS. UNTIL A NEW SERVICE PROCEDURE AND/OR PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, DO NOT ATTEMPT REPAIR. MONITOR OASIS FOR UPDATES." THE FIX HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN FOUND AS VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AFTER 12/1/2013 DO NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM, BUT IT APPEARS THAT FORD HAS NO INTENTION OF PROVIDING A REMEDY FOR THE OWNERS OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BETWEEN 1400-1600 RPM IT STARTS TO VIBRATE AND DRIVES ROUGH. IS THIS USUAL? HAD IT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND COMPLAINED TO FORD. NO SATISFACTION!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEATING SYSTEM AND THE DEFROSTER FAILED. THE AUTOMATIC REMOTE ALSO FAILED TO ACTIVATE THE SYSTEM HEAT. THE CONTACT HAD TO LET THE ENGINE RUN FOR A FEW MINUTES TO BE ABLE TO HEAT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE THEREFORE THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOT A FIX FOR THE HEATING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,400.
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HWY AT 70MPH AND HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN BLAST. I LOOKED AROUND AND HEARD WHAT ENDED UP BEING GLASS FALLING INTO MY REAR SEAT. MY REAR PANORAMIC GLASS HAD SHATTERED AND BLOWN UPWARD IN A WAY I'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE AND I HAD NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED IT, AS THERE WERE ONLY CLOTHES AND A BOX IN THE REAR SEAT. I TOOK IT TO FORD AND MADE A CLAIM WHICH WAS DENIED. I AM CONFIDENT THIS PROBLEM IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, BUT FORD SAYS THIS BREAKAGE WOULD ONLY HAPPEN UPON INSTALLATION DUE TO USING TEMPERED GLASS. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT BECAUSE NOTHING HIT MINE AND STILL, IT SHATTERED. I ALSO HAVE A LEAKING ROOF, WHICH MAY BE RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
DOORS WOULD NOT ALWAYS LATCH SHUT IN COLD WEATHER. NOTIFIED FORD SERVICE ON LINE AND PROVIDE A PHOTO OF THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME BUT NEVER DID. I FOLLOWED UP WITH FORD SERVICE A COUPLE MONTHS LATER AND THEY SAID TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN TO MY DEALER. AFTER BRINGING THE VEHICLE IN MAY 2014 FOR THIS ISSUE, I FOUND OUT RECALL 14S03 EXISTED FROM THE DEALER. THEY INFORMED ME THEY APPLIED THE FIX BY ADJUSTING ALL DOOR HANDLES. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED AS IT'S NOW HAPPENING IN THE WARM WEATHER.COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER AND FORD SERVICE. TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK IN JUNE 2014 AND THE DEALER SAID THEY AGAIN ADJUSTED THE DOOR HANDLES. THE VEHICLE STILL HAS THE DOOR HANDLE PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR HANDLE STICKING AND THE DOOR NOT LATCHING. THE DOOR CAME OPEN WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. *TR
THE CAR TAKES APPROXIMATELY 18-22 MINUTES TO ATTAIN A SAFE AND PROPER INSIDE VEHICLE TEMPERATURE. EVEN WITH A REMOTE START INSTALLED IT WILL USUALLY TWO STARTS FOR THE CAR TO REACH A TEMPERATURE THAT IS NOT DANGEROUS TO MY INFANT NEPHEW. I CAN NO LONGER PICK HIM UP WITHOUT WARMING CAR UP FOR HALF AN HOUR. I BROUGHT BACK TO FULLERTON FORD DEALERSHIP IN NJ AND WAS TOLD BY SERVICE MANAGER [XXX] THAT HE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS ESCAPE. HE WAS ABLE TO JUST GET ANOTHER CAR. THE AVERAGE PERSON LIKE MYSELF IS TOLD TO CONTACT FORD CORPORATE AND FILE A COMPLAINT. I ASKED IF IT WAS POSSIBLE TO GET ANOTHER FORD ESCAPE OR EDGE AD WAS TOLD BY SALES MANAGER [XXX] I WOULD LOOSE MY INITIAL DOWN PAYMENT OF 4000 DOLLARS, THEY ALSO SAID THEY WOULD NEED ANOTHER 4000 DOLLARS AND INCREASED PAYMENTS. NOTHING I CAN DO EXCEPT LEAVE CAR IN DRIVEWAY DURING WINTER AND MAKE PAYMENTS. THE SERVICE INVOICE CLEARLY STATES "NO FIX AVAILABLE". YET THEY CONTINUE TO SELL THIS VEHICLE TO GENERAL PUBLIC AND DUPE US. THE DEALERSHIPS THAT CONTINUE TO SELL THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE BOYCOTTED AND HELD RESPONSIBLE. I WAS DRIVING TO PICK UP MY DAUGHTER FROM SCHOOL AND THE CAR STEERING STIFFENED UP. I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT SO LUCKILY NOTHING HAPPENED. 7/12/13 WE PURCHASED NEW 2014 FORD ESCAPE TITANIUM WHICH DID NOT HAVE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL) A SAFETY FEATURE. THE DEALER, HERB CHAMBERS, WESTBOROUGH, MA., SAID AT MY EXPENSE FORD WOULD INSTALL DRL WHEN I CAME IN FOR SERVICE ON 12/11/2013. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. FORD WILL ONLY INSTALL DRL ON FLEET ESCAPE VEHICLES BUT NOT ON PERSONAL ESCAPES. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS ASSIGNED A CASE # (CAS-3967188-C7S8M6) TO MY CONCERNS AND ARE ADAMANT. THEY WON'T UPGRADE MY NEW CAR & IF I INSTALL DRL (AFTERMARKET ITEM) THEY WILL VOID MY EXTENDED NEW CAR WARRANTY. THE 2014 FORD ESCAPE HAS A SOFTWARE/HARDWARE BUG IN WHICH THE INTERIOR INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER DOES NOT RETAIN ITS MANUAL DIMMER SETTINGS. AFTER 20-30 MINUTES WITH THE VEHICLE POWERED OFF, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIMMER SETTING REVERTS TO MAXIMUM BRIGHTNESS AUTOMATICALLY. MORE THAN AN INCONVENIENCE, THIS BUG IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. IF A DRIVER PERCEIVES THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TO BE TOO BRIGHT, THE DRIVER MUST MANUALLY DIM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL EVERY TIME IT IS DARK ENOUGH THAT THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS ARE REQUIRED TO DRIVE. FORD WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE DESIGN BUG AT THIS TIME BECAUSE THEY DO NOT THINK IT BOTHERS ENOUGH CUSTOMERS. EACH TIME THE DRIVERS OUTSIDE MIRROR IS TUCKED OR FOLDED IN AND RETURNED TO ITS DRIVING POSITION THE MIRROR DOES NOT RETURN TO THE SAME POSITION AND MUST BE READJUSTED FOR THE DRIVER TO HAVE PROPER AND SAFE VISION TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE MIRROR HOUSING RETURNS TO THE CORRECT POSITION, BUT THE MIRROR INSIDE THE HOUSING DOES NOT RETURN TO ITS PROPER POSITION. THIS IS A MANUAL FOLDING MIRROR WITH ELECTRICALLY OPERATED MIRROR ADJUSTMENT. I CALLED FORD AND THEY AND THE DEALER SAID THERE IS NO FIX. TAKATA RECALL. PURCHASED SEPT 2013. REAR ENDED TWICE WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF OWNERSHIP. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EITHER TIME. BLEAKLEY FORD REPAIRED BOTH TIMES. 2015 GOT RECALL NOTICE FOR 'AIRBAGS'. ASKED SERVICE PERSON WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE AIRBAGS. SHE SAID 'THEY HAD TO BE TURNED ON". THIS MEANS, THEY WERE TURNED OFF WHEN THE CAR LEFT THE FACTORY, AND WHEN I WAS REAR ENDED BOTH TIMES. THIS INDICATED THAT FORD KNEW THE AIRBAGS WERE DANGEROUS, AND WAS TURNING THEM OFF IN THE FACTORY. I FOUND MY VEHICLE ON ONE TAKATA LIST, SO I KNOW IT HAS THEM. I HAVE REQUESTED SEVERAL TIME TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS REPLACED, BUT THEY JUST BRUSH ME OFF. I'M VERY NERVOUS NOT KNOWING IF THEY ARE GOING TO EXPLODE WHILE I'M DRIVING. I LIVE IN THE SOUTH WHERE IT IS HOT AND HUMID. I UNDERSTAND THESE ARE EXACTLY THE CONDITIONS THAT CAUSE THE PRESSURIZED GAS CONTAINER TO EXPLODE, SENDING SHRAPNEL INTO THE PASSENGERS AND DRIVER. PICKED UP MY BRAND NEW CAR, FORD ESCAPE S 2014, AND HAD THE AC SYSTEM RUNNING, WHEN I TURNED THE AC OF A STRANGE NOISE WAS AUDIBLE FROM THE REAR END OF THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE AN EASY FIX. APPARENTLY TWO SCREWS HAD TO BE TIGHTENED AT THE SHOCK AND SUSPENSION. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE FIXED CAR' IT TOOK ABOUT 10 MIN TO HEAR THE NOISE AGAIN. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM. I WILL TAKE THE CARE BACK AGAIN TO SEE WHAT THE NEXT STEP IS. THE DASH LIGHTS WILL NOT DIM AUTOMATICALLY AS DESCRIBED IN THE MANUAL AS WELL AS FROM FORD TECHNICIANS. THEY ARE ON FULL BRIGHT ALL THE TIME. AN ANALOGY WOULD BE LIKE HAVING AN ONCOMING CAR HAVING ITS HEADLIGHTS ON HIGH BEAM AT NIGHT AND THEREFORE BE BLINDING. THERE IS A MANUAL OVERRIDE TO ADJUST BUT THIS MUST BE DONE EVERY TIME THE CAR IS STARTED. I TALKED TO A FORD REP AND WAS TOLD, "NOTHING IS PERFECT, DEAL WITH IT". THE VEHICLE'S STEERING IS TOO SENSITIVE AT HIGHER SPEED. GENERALLY SPEAKING ABOVE 65 MPH ANY MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO GO THAT DIRECTION. WHEN A CORRECTION IS MADE, THE VEHICLE GOES THE OPPOSITE WAY (TOO MUCH) WHICH TENDS TO MAKE VEHICLE FEEL AND LOOK AS IF IT WANDERS ON THE ROADWAY. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS DUE TO "ELECTRONIC STEERING." MANY COMPLAINS ARE FOUND ONLINE OF THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER DRIVERS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CRASH CAUSING PROBLEM AND DRIVERS NEED TO BE ON HIGH ALERT FOR THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM. I WOULD THINK IF THIS IS INVESTIGATED, CRASHES WITH CAUSES OF DRIVER INATTENTION WHEREAS A VEHICLE GOES OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD OR LEFT OF CENTER, SENSITIVE STEERING MAYBE THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM IN MANY CASES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY TWO FORD DEALERSHIPS AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I FEEL THIS IS A ENGINEERING PROBLEM SUCH AS THE IGNITION SWITCHES ON THE GM PRODUCTS. Coolant leaking into cylinder 4. Code P0304. I’ve been having this problem for months. I’ve gotten numerous repairs on the car and nothing is fixing the problem. It is currently at a Ford dealership again in Durham North Carolina. They are saying it’s an engine block problem. The car is constantly emptying coolant.
Vehicle hesitates when shifting mainly from secon to third gear and hesitates to accelerate. The rpms go up but not going any faster and then jerks. If I was to try and pull out onto a highway there is no way the car will accelerate fast enough. Took it to the dealer to see if they could check a previous recall item to see if it was maybe defective and they would not look at it unless I paid 220 dollars for a diagnostics even though the recall was for the transmission shifting cable bushing. This has been happening since I bought the car about a year ago which wa previously owned by an elderly person that got it from the dealer with 35000 miles on it and it now only has 50000 miles on it and the dealer could not tell me what else was fixed on the car. I have read about the same issues with tje same transmission that I have amd the dealer does nothing to help. It is the 6f35 transmission. There are no warning lights on and no codes popping up. The transmission fluid has been changed and was not dirty along with the filter. I am afraid that when I go to accelerate my car will not go fast enough and hesitate and possibly cause an accident. I have read many of the same complaints about this vehicles transmission had I known about them before I got the vehicle I would not have bought it as the dealership is not helpful at all. This happens everytime I drive the vehicle especially going from a complete stop to going.
Stalls when tank is 1/2 full. With only 2-3 seconds warning, engine light goes on I loose all power. Engine’s light used to be on for about 3/5 years straight. Stalls on rough roads. Stalls a few miles into a drive when not driven for 3 or more days Started having problems 10 + years ago. Ford in henderson , no could not find anything wrong. It used to stall or almost stall when I got gas every time, but it doesn’t really do that anymore. Now it just stalls in the middle of the road a few miles into every drive when my tank is at half or less.
