I own a 2020 Ford Escape. While entering the vehicle through the driver's side door, the door made an abnormal popping sound while being opened. The passenger’s side front door also made the abnormal popping sound while being opened. I have been informed by my repair shop that the doors will need to be replaced. I took to my local dealership, Kindle Ford and they informed me that the vehicle is out of warranty as the mileage is at 40,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the driver's side door spot weld was fractured. The contact stated that the door was difficult to close. The driver's side window also failed to open as needed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the hinge and door weld had failed. The mechanic recommended replacing the door. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the warranty had expired. No assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
The door welds (arm check) have broken. I took it a ford dealer and have been told there is no recall. When I took it to a body shop, they told me all of the door welds are weak and need replacement. I was quoted $6500. For a new vehicle (2020) it seems like a manufacturing defect and there are no recalls and it is too expensive for me to fix. Please help.
Door check bracket is popping/clicking as I close & open my drivers side door. Also the window can only roll down 25% of the way now because of the bracket failure
7/31/23 Used 2020 Ford Escape was bought at Cecil Atkission Motors, it was deemed "fully functional, no present issues." 08/02/23 Tire issues, dealership inspected and found 2 screws in driver tire/failed alignment test. Also suddenly found oil pan and left axle seal leaking. Seal leaking and replaced. Front axle leaking. 12/08/23 Took Ford Escape to Ford Dealership due to broken popping driver door. Vibration while driving 70mph, inspected and the cause of it is front suspension and uneven tires given by Cecil Atkission Motors. Found oil leak again front cover and oil pan, leak on crank shaft rear main seal. Trans and engine dye found between. Rear seal leaking. Rattle noise at cold start, coming from turbo. Misfire at 2 and 3 cylinders. Blindside spot doesn't detect cars next to car. Due to the driver door being broken and unable to open it poses a safety hazard if car caught on fire or if an accident, unable to escape. Being a 2020-year vehicle, this should not be happening early on. All issues mentioned above are hazardous to my safety and others, including children.
Door hinge stop welds broken inside door.
The welding on the driver side door broke for no reason. Since that time it has sprung open for no reason and almost hit another vehicle. It has also slammed shut several times and hit my leg as I have attempted to exit the car.
The driver side door began making a terrible noise upon opening and closing. It would not close. The door eventually closed and the door weld for the hinge failed. The door does not operate properly and now the driver side window does not go down because the door hinge components are broken off inside the door and blocking the window from going down at all. Ford was contacted multiple times about the manufacturer failure and there is still NO Recall on the 2020 Escape AWD. They advised to wait for a letter from Ford allowing the fix. Ford has no information for when they will send letters to customers or dealers to fix the failed manufacturer weld component on the drivers side door.
Driver door makes a popping noise. It is hard to open, other times hard to close. Does not stay open sometimes and will fling closed, which has hit my arm and shin. Since this started, the window does not roll down all of the way. When it does roll down, it does not roll up.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while opening the driver's front door, the contact heard a popping sound. In addition, the contact stated that when the door was closed, she heard the popping sound. The contact stated that several days later, while opening the door the popping sound was extremely loud and the door was difficult to close. The contact also stated that the driver's side front door was inoperable, and the window would not go up or down. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with failed check arm welding and that the driver's side front door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the repair would not be covered under warranty. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Spot welds on the driver's side (left) door have failed, teh welds hold the door limiting arm attachment . Documented in NHTSA ID Number: 10201603 Manufacturer Communication Number: SSM 50150 Car has <30,000 miles and is a family vehicle, not high use nor commercial. Failure was recent <2 weeks after noises first appeared. All welds are noticeably failed from the outside of the door.
I OWN A 2020 FORD ESCAPE. The Driver's Front Door started making a loud popping sound when opened and then it wouldn't close all of the way. It was hard to close but finally did. It kept making the popping noise louder every time it was opened and shut. Then, the Driver's Front Window failed to go down more than an inch and a half to two inches. It wouldn't roll up every time it was rolled down the couple of inches either. I took it to Mike White Ford Dealership in Coeur d'Alene, ID where I was informed that the welds on the control arm of the Driver's Door had failed and broken so the car needed to go to a body shop to be repaired. The dealership said that none of this is covered by my warranties.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated while opening and closing the front driver's side door, there was an abnormal popping sound coming from the door as if the door hinge was fracturing. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the driver's side door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE23013 (Structure). The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.
Approximately 1/4/2024 The front drivers side door is broken. The bolts broke off on the inside.I had no prior warning, I went to open my door and a huge clunk sound happened and it was difficult to open , there was friction ,opening it all the way is causing friction and I don’t want the door to fall off. Also it’s causing the automatic window not to work now , that only is opening half way . I took it to the dealer to assess the problem and it’s the left door asy , I looked this up online and it’s stating Ford is aware of this problem but still hasn’t issued a recall. I do not want my door to fall off , especially if I’m driving and this happened . This is also a huge financial burden on anyone , please can you help with this situation . Thank you
My car door doesn’t open and close properly due to a problem with the door due to faulty spot welding. It doesn’t open or close properly. From what I see, this is an issue with many 2020 ford escapes. It also causes the window to not go down more than an inch. It could cause the door to open while driving but ford won’t seem to fix this issue unless I buy a whole new door.
defective spot welds at the check arm attachment points on the door on drivers side. Window does not work anymore because of it. Body shop said they have never seen anything like this and that it was not welded at all
The driver door starting making a loud popping sound. I found out the check arm/hinge broke. Now the door has 3 holes in it, the window will not roll up or down, and the popping sound is still present.
I have a bad weld on the driver's side door of my 2020 Titanium Escape and I am told this is a known issue. The window in the door doesn't work anymore and my door is basically falling off and from what I have read this can happen at any time even while driving. They say the door can fly open even while driving because of the bad weld. I have spoken with Ford and they will only pay a fraction of the bill. This requires a fix of a new door. They are expecting me to pay over $1300 for the repair and they will pay $980. To fix on my own is $3300. Why is there no recall. Do I have to get injured or die to be taken seriously??
Driver door makes a loud popping noise. Did look into the manufacturer defect where the spot welds do not hold the door hinge
The check arm part of the door hinge is literally breaking off. It appears that the welds are failing and now the door won't close properly. I'm worried that the door may open on it's own or that it may open unexpectedly while I'm driving. The dealer says it is out of the 3/36k warranty period and will cost over 2500.
Drivers side drivers door popping when opened and closed, will not latch
The Spot Weld on the Driver side door is broke. based on information read this is an issue on this vehicle where the hinge breaks where the spot weld is suppose to hold. Has to be replaced and cost is $2400. Dealership said they have repaired a lot of these doors/Hinges. Asking to pay $2400 on an issue that Ford knows. They have a notice 50150 fro NHTSA that it is a known issue . Looking to help in reimbursing . per the site--- the spot welds' failure in the door's arm. In interviews with owners, NHTSA learned of 25 "minor injuries" and 1 report of "minor property damage." Some people have reported a popping noise when the door comes open and say that the door can be unable to latch when closed or can suddenly come open when it had been closed. According to the safety agency's investigation document, the problem is believed to be faulty spot welds in the check arm attachment points on the doors. As one example, an owner reported to NHTSA that "The driver side front door made a creaking sound, could not be opened, and the window would not go down. The internal weld to the door failed."
The driver's side door started making a strange squeaking noise a few months after I bought the vehicle. After about 3 months the door made a serious creaking noise and started to have issues closing. I inspected the door and found a hole in the metal where the weld spot is.
The outside door window seals began rotting and crumbling apart on the front passenger and both rear door windows. The driver’s door window seal is not affected as the entire door was replaced due to a factory defect. This is allowing heavy amounts of water to run down inside the doors, threatening interior equipment corrosion and failure.
Drivers front door started making popping noises. Called Ford dealer where car purchased and they said it just need hinges sprayed with WD40. I did and no change. Went to local mechanic and when I opened the door to show him it popped but then wouldn’t close. He said the welded holder for metal rod broke. Took off door panel to get it to close and now I have car with no door function, door opener, window opener, and door interior panel now in my back seat. Dealer won’t look at for 3 weeks.
The weld on my driver door has completely come loose. The only repair is to replace the whole door.
Like many others, the spot welds gave way on my drivers door. It affects window operation and the door sounds terrible when opening and closing. I called ford and they told me to have the concern verified at my next service visit. They need to issue a recall for this ASAP.
2020 Ford Escape door welds went bad. First popping noise and then door wouldn’t close and finally got closed and couldn’t open. Hinges pulled out of door and left holes and then window could not be opened. I have been researching and this has been ongoing problem with Ford. I see where there were lots of recalls for this problem, but I am told my Ford isn’t one for recall. I don’t know why I had to pay $2,620.00 to have door replaced since they already knew about problem. I need help! Left broken spot weld on Driver's side door. Without accident, the driver's side window stopped working and the driver's door no longer has any traction once opened. This happened spontaneously without any warning or other symptoms. This first appeared [XXX]. Once the door is opened, it flies open nearly hitting other cars or people that are nearby if I'm not holding on firmly, and the window does not roll down. I brought this to Superior Ford Collision [XXX] and they confirmed it was a broken spot weld. I contacted Ford and this was no longer under warranty so they will not offer any assistance in replacing the door. I was quoted at $5000-$6000 for a new door by Lucas Stauffacher at Superior Ford Collision. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

SSM 51553, Left front door has a cracked or broken spot welds at the check arm attachment point in door assembly. The window will not roll down or will not roll back up. Started with creaking noises while opening/shutting the door about 1-2 months ago. Now the door makes loud crunching /cracking noise, doesn’t want to close all the way.

The 2020 Ford Escape was purchased new in March of 2020. The door welds are breaking in the driver's door is the problem. The door does not open or close properly now. It must be slammed to get it to close. The window in that door is twisting in the track so it can't be used. Dealer (Blackwell Ford) identified problem but claimed dealer not responsible and vehicle is out of warranty. (26124 miles on vehicle after1-1/ 2-years of covid shut down.) Ford's customer service department says vehicle is out of warranty and would be no assistance. I think the vehicle should be repaired/replaced at the manufacturers expense! Dealer quoted me a cost of $ 3,000 plus to make any repair. The big question is it safe to drive this vehicle?
Door Hinge spot welds broken on the check arm moving freely causing loud noise in the driver door making it hard to operate and won't allow the window to roll down.
Broken spot welds in the front doors at the check arm attachment point. Have already replaced both door on a 2020 escape and now needing to replace the driver door for a second time. Very poor quality by FORD.
The contact's boyfriend owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the front driver's side door made an abnormal popping sound while opening. Additionally, the door failed to close properly. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE23013 (Structure). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Drivers door began to make clicking banging sounds while opening and closing. It now is almost impossible to close and I has a lot of outward pressure once secured. I am scared the door will fly open while driving. This appears to be an ongoing issue with these models with a faulty spot weld but no recall as of yet.
