ON 04/28/2000, I WAS TOWING MY BOAT AND TRAILER TO LAKE ERIE ON OHIO STATE ROUTE 11 NORTH WHEN MY RIG SUDDENLY BEGAN TO FISHTAIL EXTENSIVELY IN PERFECT ROAD AND WHETHER CONDITIONS AND AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 50MPH. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED ELECTRIC TRAILER BRAKES TO ALL FOUR TRAILER WHEELS WHICH DID OPERATE BUT TO NO AVAIL. I THEN TRIED TO HOLD THE BRAKES ON THE TRAILER AND ALSO APPLY ACCERATION TO THE TRUCK TO PULL THIS RIG OUT OF THE FISHTAIL. WITHIN A MATTER OF 5 SECONDS OR LESS, I WAS THROWN OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO THE HILLSIDE WITH A BLOWN RIGHT REAR TIRE ON THE TRUCK. HAVING PULLED BOATS AND TRAILERS ALL OF MY LIFE I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHY THIS RIG GOT AWAY FROM ME SO FAST, ESPECIALLY AT THE SPEED I WAS GOING. AFTER EVERYTHING ABOUT FIRESTONE TIRES THAT CAME OUT IN THE FOLLOWING MONTHS, I FEEL THAT SOMETHING DEFINITELY HAPPENED TO THIS TIRE TO CAUSE THE ACCIDENT. AFTER GETTING THE TRUCK REPAIRED AND THEN CHECKING THE CONSUMER REPORT'S WEBSITE ABOUT TIRES, I DECIDED TO CHECK OUT THE DOT DATES OF THE TIRES THAT REMAINED ON THE TRUCK AND FOUND OUT THAT ALL THESE TIRES THAT WERE INSTALLED AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT WERE MANUFACTURED IN EARLY 1990. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, THIS IS FRAUD AND NEGLIGENCE ON BOTH FIRESTONE'S AND FORD'S PART SINCE THEY SOLD AND PUT OUTDATED TIRES ON THIS NEW TRUCK. I EMAILED A COMPLAINT TO FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH THE SAME INFORMATION THAT I AM PROVIDING YOU, BUT IT WAS TO NO AVAIL. I CONTACTED THE FORD HOT LINE, THEY SAID THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION. THE BLURRED VISION IN THIER SIDE VIEW MIRRORS DOES NOT PRESENT A SAFETY ISUE AT "THIS TIME". I FEEL NOT BEING ABLE TO ADEQUATELY JUDGE THE DISTANCE OF OTHER VEHICLES ON THE SIDES OF SUCH A LARGE VEHICLE, AT NIGHT, DOES PRESENT A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THIS COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT GIVEN THE SIZE OF THIS VEHICLE.

RIGHT FRONT TIRE FOUND WITH 1/2 INCH VERTICAL CUT MIDWAY UP SIDEWALL. NO EVIDENCE OF ROAD HAZZARD OR OTHER DAMAGE. FORD DEALER (ISLAND FORD BLUFTON SC) REPLACED AT OWNERS COST STATING DAMAGE MUST HAVE BEEN ROAD HAZZARD. APRIL 2000 APPROX MILES 10,000. ADDITIONAL INFO. WHILE LOOKING FOR DOT NUMBER ON TIRES, NONE IS SHOWN, ALL THREE ORIGIONAL TIRES HAVE NOTICABLE SIDEWALL INDENTATIONS ABOVE THE "R4X" INFLATION IS APPROX 45PSI. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE OF VEHICLE STEERING CHANGED, STEERING WHEEL WAS OFF CENTER. DEALER DISCOVERED THAT LEFT MOUNTING BRACKET THAT HOLDS CROSS TRACK BAR WAS BROKEN. WAS REPAIRD, BUT STEERING WAS STILL NOT RIGHT. CONSUMER FELT PART WAS BROKEN WHEN HE PURCHASED VEHICLE. *AK
JACK WILL NOT PROPERLY ALIGN WITH THE PINS ON THE SUSPENSION. BELIEVED THIS COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO FALL OFF JACK WHILE USING. *AK
SINCE THIS VEHICLE WAS NEW, IT IS OFTEN IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER IF YOU ARE STEPPING ON THE BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME. THIS OCCURS AT LOW SPEED, FORTUNATELY, BUT IT IS STILL A HAZARD. TWO FORD DEALERS HAVE TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT, FORD WILL NOT FIX IT AND "THEY ARE ALL THAT WAY." I CONSIDER THIS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT.*AK
DURING BRAKING VEHICLE WILL PULL TO THE RIGHT TYPICALLY, HOWEVER, IT WILL PULL TO THE LEFT ON OCCASION. VEHICLE PULLS WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. SEVERITY OF THIS PULLING INCREASES WITH HARDNESS OF BRAKING. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE, AND LUBRICATED CALIPERS AS WELL AS REPLACED AND ROTATED BRAKE PADS. BRAKES SQUEAKING AFTER 500 MI. TOOK IT TO DEALER, THEY STATED IT WAS NORMAL DUE TO NEW TYPE PADS WITH METAL CONTENT. BEGAN SHUDDERING AND PULLING TO SIDE AT 10K MILES. ROTORS TURNED 3 TIMES BETWEEN 10K AND 35K MILES. ROTORS & PADS REPLACED AT 35K MILES. TURNED AGAIN AT 42K MILES. PROBLEM PERSISTS. DEALER STATES IT IS DUE TO DRIVING HABITS. *JB
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE UPON APPROACHING INTERSECTION. EXCURSION WAS TOWED TO NEAREST FORD DEALER WHERE, UPON EXAM, IT WAS FOUND THAT A SENSOR WIRE HAD RUBBED THROUGH ON THE TIRE, CAUSING THE BRAKE FAILURE.
THIS VEHICLE SHAKES, RATTLES AND ROLLS CONSTANTLY , ALIGNMENT 3 SEPERATE TIMES, EXTREMELY HARD TOO STOP, NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH FRAME AND CHASSIS. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A DSB HEARING IN REGARDS TO FORD REPURCHASING VEHICLE AS PREVIOUSLY THEY DENIED REPURCAHE OF VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO SUBMITTED ALL OF MY REPAIR ORDERS TO FORD FOR REVIEW AND I AM TOLD I WILL HAVE TO TESTIFY AT THE DSB HEARING AND HAVENT RECEIVED A DATE FOR SAME. THIS VEHICLE IS THE WORST TOO TRY AND CONTROL, STOP OR DRIVE DUE TO STEERING WHHEL SHAKES, FRAME STABILITY AND LACK THERE OF.
I OWN A 2000 FORD EXCURSION AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ROTORS WARPING SINCE NEW. THE DEALERS HAVE SAID I WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM BUT AFTER SEEING THIS WEB SITE I SEE THAT IS NOT TRUE. ALSO I HAD THE BEARINGS GO OUT IN THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL ALMOST LEADING TO THE TIRE FALLING OFF IF MY WIFE HAD NOT NOTICED IT IN TIME. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE HAVE BEEN TURNED AT LEAST EVERY 15,000 MILES SINCE NEW I HAVE AROUND 80,000 MILES NOW. THE DEALER DID THE BRAKES THREE TIMES UNTIL THE WARRNTY RAN OUT AT 36,000 MILES I HAVE HAD THEM FIXED MYSELF SINCE THEN. THIS TRUCK IS SAID TO BE HEAVY DUTY AND I ONLY TOW A CAMPER WITH IT TWICE A YEAR 60 MILE ROUND TRIP I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. THE SEVERE SHAKING THAT IS CAUSED BY THIS MAKES IF DIFFICULT TO DRIVE FOR MY WIFE SINCE SHE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THE CAR. I CANNOT WAIT TILL MY LEASE RUNS OUT SO I CAN GET RID OF THIS CAR. CONSUMER HIT A POTHOLE. BACK OF CAR LIFTED, AND WHEN IT CAME DOWN, BACK WENT TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT INSTEAD OF COMING STRAIGHT DOWN. THIS CAUSED CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF STEERING. *AK

CONSUMER DISAPPOINTED IN DENIAL OF CLAIM REGARDING COMPLAINT 10071543.*MR THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE FIRESTONE TIRES AT A NON FIRESTONE RETAIL STORE. THE CONSUMER REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT WAS DENIED BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THAT THE PROPER DOCUMENTATION WAS NOT PROVIDED. *NM
DEFECT IN SUSPENSION SYSTEM OF CAR CAUSES THE CAR TO MOVE LATERALLY ON DRY PAVEMENT AS IF THE CAR WERE HYDROPLANING. HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE ENCOUNTERS "WASHBOARD" OR RIPPLING IN THE PAVEMENT. I SUSPECT THAT THE SUSPENSION IS TOO TIGHT SINCE IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AS BAD WHEN THE VEHICLE IS LOADED, WEIGHT SEEMS TO HELP THE ISSUE. ALL OCCURANCES (4) HAPPENED ON HIGHWAYS WITHIN 5MPH OF SPEED LIMIT ON DRY PAVEMENT DURING OPTIMAL WEATHER. MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO PUT THE CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND DRIVE IT.

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2000 FORD EXCURSION THAT IS 11 MONTHS OLD WITH 20,700 MILES. I HAVE JUST DROPPED MY TRUCK OFF YESTERDAY FOR ROUTINE SERVICE WHERE I PURCHASED IT (GLADSTONE FORD, LONDERRY, NEW HAMPSHIRE). I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THE WINTER IS FAST APPROACHING, AND MY WIFE, WHO IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER, DEPENDS ON THIS VEHICLE TO DRIVE OUR FOUR CHILDREN AROUND FOR VARIOUS ACTIVITIES. FRONT AXLE LEAF SPRING WAS MAKING A POPPING NOISE WHEN VEHICLE ACCELERATED/ BRAKED OR WAS GOING OVER BUMPS OR CRACKS. HAVE TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR PROBLEM. MECHANIC WOULD PACK WITH GREASE, WHICH WAS A TEMPORARY MEASURE. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN INFORMED OF PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 75MPH HAD HEARD A THUMP, TIRE HAD BLOWN, MAINTAINED CONTROL AND PULLED OFF ROAD. CHECKED TIRES, AND NOTICED LEFT FRONT HAD A HOLE ON INSIDE OF SIDEWALL, WHICH WAS OUTWARD. VEHICLE SUSPENSION MAKING UNUSUAL NOISES SINCE PURCHASE. STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES EXCESSIVELY SINCE PURCHASE. DEALER REPAIRED "BODY BOLTS" WITHOUT RESOLVING PROBLEM. FRONT TIRES ARE "CUPPING". VEHICLE SWAYS SIDE TO SIDE, CLANKING NOISES FROM FRONT AND REAR. BRAKES REPAIRED/REPLACED TWICE. NEW BRAKES WILL NOT HOLD VEHICLE WITH 1800 LBS TRAILER WHEN BACKING DOWN SLIGHT GRADE.
