THE STRAPS HOLDING THE GAS TANK IN PLACE HAVE RUSTED OUT CAUSING THE GAS TANK TO SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, HE BEGAN TO ROLL THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW DOWN. WHILE ROLLING THE WINDOW DOWN, IT DROPPED DOWN INTO THE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WINDOW DETACHED FROM ITS TRACK, ALLOWING IT TO DROP DOWN INTO THE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT 1997 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING BOLT ON THE VEHICLE BROKE. THE CONTACT FOUND NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN IN NUMBER: 03V196000 (STEERING: GEAR BOX: SHAFT SECTOR), BUT WAS TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 105,000.
1997 FORD EXPEDITION SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTED IN TARGET PARKING LOT ABOUT 2 HRS AFTER THE DRIVER PARKED IT THERE AND WENT IN TO WORK. THE AFT AREA OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATING AREA AND MOST OF THE BACK SEATS WERE MELTED AND BURNED. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT BY DENVER FIRE DEPT. SOUNDS MUCH LIKE MANY INTERNET REPORTED ISSUES WITH "FORD EXPEDITION CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH FIRES". *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE, WHICH ORIGINATED FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE POLICE AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE CALLED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 232,936.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY A NORMAL SPEED THE SPARE TIRE ON MY EXPEDITION FELL OFF WHEN THE CABLE HOLDING THE TIRE UP SEEMED TO HAVE BROKE. MY VEHICLE RAN OVER THE TIRE AND I COULD SEE THE SPARE BOUNCING WILDLY DOWN THE ROAD. FORTUNATELY, NO OTHER CARS HIT THE TIRE BUT IT WAS EXTREMELY CLOSE SINCE A CAR JUST PASSED FROM THE OTHER DIRECTION AND THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO WAY THEY COULD HAVE MISSED THE BOUNCING TIRE IN THE ONCOMING LANE. FORD DOES NOT KNOW HOW CLOSE THEY CAME TO KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE. THE ROAD WAS SMOOTH WITHOUT BUMPS, THE TIRE JUST FELL OFF. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, WE HAVE NEVER USED THE SPARE TIRE ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEANING TO ONE SIDE. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND INSPECTED IT AND NOTICED THAT THE TORSION BAR WAS BROKEN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER/MECHANIC NOR WAS IT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.
FEBURARY 28, 2011 I PURCHASED A 97 FORD EXPEDITION. I DROVE THE TRUCK FOR ONE DAY AND ON MARCH 4, 2011 I PARKED THE TRUCK UNDER THE GARAGE AROUND 8:30 A.M. AND AROUND 10:45 A.M THE TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BY THE TIME THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT . THE WHOLE FRONT END WAS BURNED UP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED AND SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED TO FUNCTION. IN ADDITION, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED WITH A STRONG BURNING ODOR EMITTING INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THERE WAS WATER LEAKING INTO THE FUSE BOX AS A RESULT IT CAUSED A SHORTAGE WITHIN THE GEM MODULE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

I OWN A 1997 EDDIE BAUER FORD EXPEDITION THAT I BOUGHT IN 1998 AS A DEMO MODEL IT HAS RUN GREAT UNTIL IT STARTED TO BLOW THE SPARK PLUG FROM THE HEADS THE FIRST TIME WAS LAST YEAR WHILE MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING BACK FORM TEXAS WE WERE IN A REMOTE PART OF THE COUNTRY WHEN IT BLEW AND SPENT OVER 500.00 FOR TOWING NOT TO MENTION THE 1200.00 DOLLAR BILL THAT THE DEALERSHIP TAGGED ON. I WAS NEVER INFORMED THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM THAT COULD RE-OCCUR WE HAVE TAKEN OTHER TRIPS BUT DID NOT HAVE ISSUE UNTIL JUST RECENTLY IT BLEW ANOTHER PLUG AND OF COURSE THE BILL IN THE THOUSANDS. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE SOME OWNERSHIP FOR THE PRODUCT THAT THEY BUILD IF THEY WANT TO KEEP SOME OF AS CUSTOMERS... *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FRAME ON THE DRIVER SIDE WAS ALSO AFFECTED BY CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
WHEN I HAD THE TIRES REPLACED ONE LUG ON EACH FRONT WHEEL BROKE OFF. WE ORDERED REPLACEMENTS AND THE NEXT DAY WHEN THE TIRES WERE REMOVED TO REPLACE THE BROKEN ONES SEVERAL OTHERS BROKE. I HAD ALL THE TIRE LUGS REPLACED AND AM DRIVING THE CAR. THERE HAVE BEEN SIMILAR PROBLEMS REPORTED WITH ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY LOST WHEELS. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO FLUID LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 128,000.
CAR WAS DEAD WHEN I WOKE UP. JUMPED IT, SPEEDOMETER DIDN'T WORK AFTERWARD. LIGHTS IN RIGHT HAND CORNER BLINK ON AND OFF I WAS TOLD BY THE FORD DEALER IT IS A GEM MODULE IS GETTING WATER IN IT BUT I DO NOT HAVE A LEAK IN MY WINDSHIELD. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT BECOMES DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE CAR WON'T MOVE SOMETIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN IT RAINS (WHICH IS EVERYDAY IN SEATTLE) I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT 3 TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR. *TR

WISE AND CONSUMER INVESTIGATORS: WALMART IS SELLING RECALLED TIRES OUTLAWED BY THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION AND DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. THIS SERIES WAS ONCE SOLD BY FIRESTONE. THIS TIRE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OVER 26,000 DEATHS AND $1M IN DAMAGES ETC. GOODYEAR BOUGHT THE TRADEMARKED SERIES MENTIONED IN THE SUBJECT LINE AND IS SELLING THEM ONLY AT WALMART. THIS IS THE SAME PRODUCT BUT DIFFERENT COMPANY. THE TIRES SPECIFICS ARE P25570R16. I AM PREPARING TO TAKE THIS STEP FURTHER TO GET THIS SERIES REMOVED FROM THE SHELVES. IT IS THE TIRES TREAD, DEPTH, SIZE, HEIGHT, ETC. THAT DID NOT CONFORM TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S REGULATIONS AN SPECIFICITIES. 1997 FORD EXPEDITION 5.4L TRITION ENGINE . ENGINE HAS EXPERIENCE SEVERAL COIL PACK FAILURES SINCE ABOUT 25000 MILES. AROUND 120,000 MILES IT HAS HAD 3 FAILURES DUE TO SPARK PLUGS BLOWING OUT OF THE HEADS. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED EACH TIME WITH A RATHER EXPENSIVE REPAIR BILL EACH TIME. NEEDLESS TO SAY FORD SAYS THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM. THIS CAR IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICE PROPERLY. *TR

I HAVE A 1997 FORD EXPEDITION, MY 15 YEAR DAUGHTER AND I WAS DRIVING ON 10 FREEWAY GOING EASTBOUND TOWARDS SAN BERADINO, WHEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING A THEN I HEARD A LOUD POP UNDER MY HOOD AS MY TRUCK STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND MAKE LOUD POPPING SOUNDS. I WAS TERRIFIED CAUSE THIS HAPPEN AS I WAS GOING BETWEEN 65 AND 70 MILES PER HOUR ON FREE WAY. ONCE I COASTED SAFELY TO SIDE OF FREEWAY AND EXAMINED UNDER MY HOOD I SEE MY SPARK PLUG WIRE LAYING TO THE SIDE AND SPARK PLUG LAYING ON AXLE I WAS IN DISBELIEF UNTIL I TRIED TO PICK UP SPARK PLUG AND IT WAS TOO HOT, TO HOLD IN MY HAND YES THIS WAS MY SPARK PLUG! IT HAD BEEN SPIT OUT OF THE ENGINE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ONCE THIS HAPPENS YOUR TRUCK LOSE POWER AND SLOWS DOWN TREMENDOUSLY, I HAD MY TRUCK TOWED TO SHOP. I KNEW I WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME EXPLAINING THIS TO MECHANIC, BECAUSE I'M A WOMAN AND MECHANIC WAS NOT GOING TO BELIEVE ME, BUT HE STATED THAT IT WAS COMMON IN FORD TRUCKS, THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO HIM AND WHEN HE CONTACTED DEALER THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THEY'RE SPARK PLUGS. MY QUESTION IS DOES SOME HAVE TO BE KILLED BEFORE YOU GUYS DO SOMETHING IT COST ME $400 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THIS AND IT COULD HAVE COST ME MY LIFE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND MAYBE I SHOULD GET RID OF IT AS HE SOLD HIS NAVIGATOR AFTER HIS INCIDENT. UPON STOPPING, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SPARE TIRE HAD FALLEN OFF BECAUSE OF A BROKEN CABLE. THE CONTACT CALLED AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO INSPECT OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,525. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,215.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED SHE WAS UNABLE TO DISENGAGE IT. WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UP TO 80 MPH. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 176,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,668.

MY BRAKES STARTED SQUIKING, AND THAT WENT ON FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THEN IT BECAME HARD FOR ME TO STOP. SO NOW I HAVE A LOT OF SQUIKING AND I HAVE TO STOP WAY BEFORE I AM SUPPOSE TO. I BOUGHT SOME BRAKE PADS THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

ONLY THE FRAME REMAINED AFTER THE ENGINE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MAIN COMPUTER, WHICH WAS HOUSED BEHIND THE MAIN FUSE BOX, WOULD ABSORB MOISTURE WHENEVER IT WOULD RAIN. THE FAILURE CAUSED SEVERAL FAILURES INCLUDING THE FAILURE OF ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES, THE VEHICLE WOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK INDEPENDENTLY, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE INDEPENDENTLY, THE STARTER WOULD ATTEMPT TO ENGAGE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING AND WHEN THE KEYS WERE NOT IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO MADE SEVERAL REPAIRS TO NO AVAIL. IN ADDITION, THE MAIN COMPUTER WAS ALSO REPLACED B UT THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND WOULD ONLY RECUR WHEN IT RAINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
THERE IS EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL, IT ROCKS FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I AM A MECHANIC SO I REPLACED BOTH SHAFT BEARINGS BUT THIS DID NOT CURE THE PROBLEM. THE UPPER STEERING SHAFT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE YOKE IS WEARING OUT CAUSING THIS CONDITION. IF THE YOKE SHOULD SNAP THE ABILITY TO STEER WILL BE LOST AND CAN CAUSE DEATH. THIS IS A CRUCIAL AND CRITICAL STEERING COMPONENT THAT SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. CAN YOU LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER AS THIS REPAIR WILL HAVE TO BE DONE ASAP. ALSO THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS ARE RUSTED OUT THEY ACTUALLY HAVE HOLES IN THEM I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS WOULD BE COVERED AS WELL. THIS VEHICLE IS WELL MAINTAINED, I HAVE DRIVEN A LOT OF DIFFERENT VEHICLES AND NEVER SEEN STEERING AND SUSPENSION PARTS WEAR OUT LIKE THIS BEFORE. THEY DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THEY USED TO. I LIKE MY TRUCK THOUGH,I WILL BUY ANOTHER FORD IN THE FUTURE, BUT FOR RIGHT NOW I GOT TO KEEP THIS ONE ROLLING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THANKYOU *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE IS UNABLE TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION FROM ONE OF THE DRIVE GEAR POSITIONS INTO THE PARK POSITION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR SHIFT SELECTOR WOULD INDICATE PARK, WHICH ALLOWS UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY REPAIRS SINCE THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 97V171000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL)). THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE RECALL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 166,000.
ENGINE MAKING A LOAD NOISE AFTER TRAVELING TO MY INLAWS WHICH WAS 216 MILES PULLED OVER NOTICED NUMBER 8 CYLINDER HAD BLOWN THE SPARK PLUG OUT OF THE BLOCK 2 MONTHS PRIOR NUMBER 3 CYLINDER BLEW OUT AND IN 2008 NUMBER 1 CYLINDER BLEW OUT PLUG FROM THE BLOCK. I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY THEY THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *TR
OUR SPARE TIRE THAT WAS MOUNTED UNDERNEATH THE CAR, -FELL OFF- WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. THE CABLE "BROKE" THAT WAS HOLDING IT IN PLACE UNDERNEATH THE CAR. THANK GOODNESS WE WERE NOT ON THE FREEWAY. IT WILL COST $100. TO REPAIR. *TR

I HAVE A 1997 FORD EXP WITH A 5.4 ENGINE, I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND I HEARD THIS LOUD POP SOUND AND THEN LOST POWER! I OPEN THE HOOD AND FOUND THAT THE SPARK PLUG EJECTED OUT THE ENGINE AND BLEW THE IGN COIL APART. I HAVE HAD THREE SET OF SPARK PLUGS INSTALLED FROM 1998-2007 AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM(175896 MILES ON MY TRUCK). IM A AUTO TECH BY TRADE AND HAVE WORKED FOR WESTERN AUTO FOR 11YEARS, AND PEP BOYS AUTO FOR 14 YEARS. OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS I HAVE SEEN ALOT OF FORDS TRUCKS COME IN WITH THIS PROBLEM ! WITH SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN WILL FORD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE OR SOME TYPE OF RECALL PUT IN PLACE ?IT HAS NOT BEEN FIX YET , BUT I HAVE LOOK INTO BUYING A ONLINE INSERT KIT THAT DRILLS OUT THE SPARK PLUG HOLE AND INSTALL NEW THREADS TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE THREADS. THE COST OF THE KIT IS $367.95 AND IM DOING THE WORK MYSELF BUT IM SURE IT WOULD BE BETWEEN 900 TO 3000 THOUSAND DOLLAR IF I HAVE GONE TO A SHOP FOR REPAIRS. PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH A RESPONSE ? I HAVE A 1997 FORD EXPEDITION WITH A 5.4L V-8 ENGINE. WITHIN THE PAST 2 MONTHS, ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE SAME SPARK PLUG BLEW OFF THE ENGINE. THE 2ND INCIDENT OCCURRED ON OCT 22, 2008 WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK IN A PARKING LOT. I NEEDED A TOW TO GET THE TRUCK AND MY FAMILY HOME. NOW, A NEW SPARK PLUG CAN'T BE SCREWED IN BECAUSE THE THREADS ARE STRIPPED. I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO A MECHANIC BUT BASED ON THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS IN THE CONSUMERAFFAIRS.COM WEBSITE, IT SEEMS THIS PROBLEM COULD COST ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. DEPENDING ON THE COST, I MAY NOT REPAIR THIS SINCE THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WITH THE OTHER 7 SPARK PLUGS. I WILL NOT BUY A FORD TRUCK AGAIN AND WILL ADVISE MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO GET RID OF THEIRS. *TR
WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND TRUCK GOT REALLY LOUD. GOT IT HOME CHECKED IT OUT. THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. HAD TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND GET A NEW INSERT PUT IN CAUSE IT WAS STRIPPED. *TR

AS A RESULT, SHE EXPERIENCES UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT. I HAD DROVE TO MY MOTHERS HOUSE ON 8/27/08 AND PARKED IN THE STREET. AFTER 15 MINUTES OF VISITING WITH HER I HEARD THE ALARM GOING OFF, AND WENT TO SEE WHAT IT WAS,ONLY TO FIND MY VEHICLE ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPT. PUT OUT THE FIRE, BUT IT WAS TO LATE. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *TR
INITIALLY, WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES ON DRY PAVEMENT, THE ABS WOULD ENGAGE INTERMITTENTLY. THE FRONT BRAKES WERE REPLACED AFTER THIS HAPPENED. UNFORTUNATELY, IT CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER WHICH, THE ABS LIGHT WOULD LIGHT UP. THE REAR ABS SENSOR WAS REPLACED AND IT STILL CONTINUED TO HAPPEN, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD BE HARD INITIALLY BUT COULD BE PUSHED THROUGH. A BEARING WAS REPLACED ON THE FRONTEND. THE ABS WOULD CONTINUE TO ENGAGE RANDOMLY. NOW, AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN, THEN SAT FOR 15-30 MINUTES, AND THEN DRIVEN AGAIN, THE ABS WILL ENGAGE--BUT THEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS VERY HARD AND DIFFICULT TO PUSH. THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON. OUR MECHANIC IS NOW USING HIS "TECH HOTLINE" TO LEARN HOW TO FIX THIS. *TR
1997 FORD EXPEDITION--ALUMINUM HEADS ARE ENGINEERED INCORRECTLY. THE PROBLEM IS THE SPARK PLUG RECESS BORE IS TO THIN, THE SPARK PLUG DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH MATERIAL TO PROPERLY SEAT IN THE HEAD AND AFTER AWHILE THE PLUG WILL BACK OUT. THE PRESSURE FROM THE COMBUSTION WILL EVENTUALLY BLOW THE PLUG OUT. THIS WILL LEAD TO COSTLY DAMAGE TO FUEL INJECTION DAMAGE, PISTON, INTAKE MANIFOLD, ETC. THE PROBLEM IS RANGING FROM 96' TO 2005 TRITON ENGINES. FORD WILL NOT HELP YOU NOR WILL THE ENGINE MANUFACTURER UNTIL SOMEONE DIES! REPAIRING THIS PROBLEM...... LOW COST-HEILI COIL INSERT $100 TO $1000 DEPENDING ON YOUR SERVICE TECH. OR A COMPLETE HEAD REPLACEMENT (STEEL HEADS) $3000 TO $5000. *TR
1997 FORD EXPEDITION, 5.4 V8. DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH WHEN A SPARK PLUG BLUE OUT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING. MY MECHANIC IS GOING TO USE A HELICOIL KIT TO REPAIR THE THREADS. I WAS OUT OF TOWN FOR THE FIRST INCIDENT AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT WAS DONE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM THE FIRST TIME. *TR
