DEALER STATES THAT THE BRAKE PADS ARE COMPLELY WORN OUT AND NEED REPLACEMENT AT 28500 MILES. DEALER STATES THAT THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON THIS PART. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH NEW VEHICLES HAS BEEN TO REPLACE BRAKES AROUND 40000 MILES. IF IT IS NORMAL TO REPLACE BRAKES DISC PADS AT APPROXIMATELY 30000 MILES, THEN MANUFACTURERS SHOULD NOTIFY THEIR CUSTOMERS. CUSTOMERS WHO ARE EXPECTING TO RECEIVE AROUND 40000 MILES ON DISC BRAKE PADS COULD POTENTIALLY EXPERIENCE MAJOR CASTROPHYBY FAILING TO REPLACE DISC BRAKE PADS. *AK

WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH PITMAN ARM BROKE, CAUSING TO DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF TRUCK AND STRIKE A LIGHT POST. VEHCLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED. *AK
REAR WIPER MOTOR (RWM) HAS FAILED AND BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES WITHIN 36K MILES, 39 MOS FROM PURCHASE AS NEW. PURCHASED TRUCK ON 9/12/98; RWM REPLACEMENT #1 ON 6/3/99 AT 8530 MI; RWM REPLACEMENT #2 ON 9/25/99 AT 11965 MI; RWM REPLACEMENT #3 ON 7/13/00 AT 20413 MI; RWM REPLACEMENT #4 ON 12/12/01 AT 35419 MI. WHY HAS THIS COMPONENT FAILED SO OFTEN? DEFECTIVE DESIGN? DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS? IMPROPER INSTALLATION? ALSO SEE RWM FAILURE COMPLAINTS MADE BY OTHER CONSUMERS TO NHTSA. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATES. *AK
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT THE GLASS CRACKED DUE TO PRESSURE. THE DEALER WILL BE NOTIFIED. *AK
REAR WIPER HAS NEVER PERFORMED AS EXPECTED, IT HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE AND REPAIRED TWICE. IT DOESNT WORK AT ALL CURRENTLY. *AK
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT ENGINE CHECK LIGHT ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THREE WEEKS AFTER SHE PURCHASED THE VECHICLE. SHE TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE MECHANIC TOLD HER THA IT WAS HER GAS CAP. THEY REPLACED IT, AND SHE WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. ALSO, THEY REPLACED A HOSE RUNNING THOUGH THE FUEL TANK. BUT CONSUMER WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. MECHANIC TOLD HER THAT FUEL TANK HAD A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT, AND THEY WOULD REPLACE THE PART WHEN IT ARRIVED. CONSUMER IS DRIVING A RENTAL CAR. *AK
TIRES WORE OUT ON THE RIGHT SIDE DUE TO NOT HAVING CAMS FOR A FRONT END ALIGNMENT.CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALER AND MANUFACTURER. *AK
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS ALL POWER WINDOWS FRONT AND REAR DO NOT WORK. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND DEALER SAID THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY CONTACTED THE MFG. HOWEVER, MFG. HAS NOT FOUND A SOLUTION.
THE ENGINE LOSES COOLANT WITH NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF LEAK FOUND, THE STEERING PULLS TO RIGHT AND IS LOOSE, FEELS LIKE YOU CAN EASILY LOOSE CONTROL. DROVE OTHER NEW VEHICLE AND DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, SIMILAR TO ODI ID# 702318.
STEERING HAS PLAY AND DEALER HAS TRIED TO FIX THREE TIMES. STEERING HAS FEELING OF NO CONTROL. COOLING SYSTEM NEEDED ONE GALLON OF COOLANT FIVE DAYS AFTER TAKING OWNERSHIP ON 3/26/99. VEHICLE WAS A DEMO MODEL AND WAS STILL CONSIDERED NEW EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A 1998 MODEL.
ON TWO OCCASIONS VEHICLE EXPERIENCED HIGH ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE/ENGINE CHECK LIGHT REMAINED ON/VEHICLE WOULD JERK WHENEVER TRANSMISSION CHANGED GEARS, AND BOTH ODOMETER/SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO OPERATE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
THE DRIVER'S SIDE TORSION BAR CRACKED, CAUSING THE TORSION BAR TO BREAK AND PUNCTURE THE TIRE WHICH RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL. DEALER REPLACED TORSION BAR AND WHEEL. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION AND VIN#. *AK
THE CAR ACCELERATES QUICKLY WHEN SLOWLY STOPPING.GOING INTO A PARKING SPACE VERY SLOWLY WHEN I PUT ON THE BRAKE THE CAR ACCELERATED TO 3000RPM'S I PUSHED THE BRAKE HARD, THE DRIVE WHEEL SPUN AND SMOKED I PULLED IT OUT OF GEAR AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION TO STOP THE ENGINE DOES NOT DO IT ALL THE TIME TOOK TO DEALER NOT A GOOD RESPONSE THEY MAY THINK I AM NUTS?? *AK
HEATER HOSE SYSTEM DESIGN DEFECT CAUSED HOSES TO LEAK CAUSING SUBSEQUENT DAMAGE TO HEATER COIL AND SPARK PLUG ,CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO RUN IMPROPERLY. HAD TO WAIT ALMOST A MONTH FOR PARTS. PROBLEM NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND NEITHER WAS THE RENTAL CAR. FORD REFUSED RESPONSIBILITY FOR DESIGN DEFECT. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HAD 3 OTHER VEHICLES IN THE SAME WEEK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. SERVICE MAN REPORTED THAT THE DESIGN HAD TO BE CHANGED BY FORD DUE TO HOSES LEAKING AND THE NEWLY DESIGNED HOSES WERE ON BACKORDER. *AK
ON 2 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS MY BACK WINDSHIELD WIPER STOPPED WORKING, ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS TO INCLUDE RIGHT NOW, MY BACK WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP HAS STOPPED WORKING.... ON 2 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS TO INCLUDE RIGHT NOW MY FRONT WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP HAS STOPPED WORKING
FROM APR-98 TO JULY-98 THE NHTSA HAD INVESTIGATED TIEROD-END FAILURES IN 96-98 FORD F150, FORD EXPEDITIONS AND LINCOLN NAVIGATORS. THIS INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO BE RE-OPENED. I BELIEVE I HAVE FOUND THE REASON FOR THE FAILURES. PLEASE HAVE THE ENGINEER IN CHARGE OF THIS ISSUE CALL ME AS SOON AS POSIBLE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. KYLE LEMBACH 02-28-99. P.S. I HAVE CONTACTED THE NHTSA TWICE IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS WITH NO RESPONSE.
VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AND ENGINE SPEED INCREASED. BREAK PEDAL WAS FULLY DEPRESSED. ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT WAS NOT DEPRESSED. VEHICLE ONLY STOPPED WHEN TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN NEUTRAL. A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED. WILL BRING VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR CHECK-OUT ASAP. *AK
TORSION BAR ON PASSENGER'S SIDE CORRODED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO DROP. ALSO, EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING & BRAKING. WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC IT WAS A BAD CASTING. NOTHING HAPPENED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. *AK
THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED COMPLETLY ON 02/02/99. WE HAD THE DEALER TOW THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR 2 DAYS AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO US AND SAID THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS CHECKED TO BE OK, AND THAT THEY FELT THERE WOULD BE NO OTHER FAILURES. ON 02/09/99. MY WIFE WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT WITH TRAFFIC STOPPED WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO CHANGE. AS SHE APPROACHED THE STOPPED TRAFFIC, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES AGAIN FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IF THE LIGHT WOULD NOT HAVE CHANGED SHE WOULD HAVE REAR ENDED THE CARS STOPPED FOR THE LIGHT . WE HAD THE AGENCY TOW THE CAR TO THEIR GARAGE. THEY HAVE LOANED US A SMALL CAR WHILE THEY DO MORE TESTING. *AK
ON TWO OCCASIONS THE WINDOW WILL NOT GO UP / DOWN. *YC
CRUISE CONTROL EXPERIENCES INTERMITTENT FAILURE.
TORSION BAR FRACTURE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LIMP FORWARD AND TO THE LEFT. (APPROX. 6 INCH DROP). *AK
RIGHT FRONT TORSION BAR BROKE WITH NO PRIOR SUSPENSION ABNORMALITIES. *AK
RIGHT FRONT TORSION BAR BROKE WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN GARAGE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. WAS TOLD THEY HAD SOME F-150 PICKUPS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT ON THE LEFT SIDE. I WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE ON NATIONAL BACKORDER, MAKING ME BELEIVE THAT THIS WAS MORE THAN AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. TOOK 2 1/2 WEEKS TO GET PARTS IN. ASKED THE DEALER SINCE IT WAS OCCURING MOSTLY ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE OTHER VEHICLES, I WAS WONDERING IF THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE THE LEFT SIDE ON MINE. ALSO. I WAS TOLD ONLY IF IT BREAKS. DEALER FIXED THE VEHICLE ON FEB. 5, 1999. AFTER DRIVING FOR 2 DAYS IT BROKE AGAIN. DEALER HAD TO ORDER ANOTHER TORSION BAR AND THAT WAS REPLACED ON FEB. 17,1999. I HAVE NUMEROUS CONCERNS WITH THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE SINCE MY WIFE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER AND TRANSPORTS OUR CHILDREN AGES 10 AND 3. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF SHE HAD BEEN DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE TORSION BAR FAILED. I'VE PLACED 3 CALLS TO FORD CONSUMER RELATIONS, AND RECEIVED NOTHING, NOT EVEN I'M VERY SORRY, AND NO CORESPONDENCE FROM THEM. AS TO THE PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP, EVERY TIME WE GOT DOWN TO 1/4 OF ATANK OF GAS OR LESS AND WOULD COME TO A STOP AND STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR TO PROCEED, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS, ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, AND THAT WE SHOULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH MORE THAN 1/4 OF A TANK OF GAS. I ASKED THEM TO TEST THE FUEL PUMP TWICE. THEN FINALLY, ON THE THIRD VISIT THE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP BECAUSE THEY FOUND THE FUEL SOCK ON THE PUMP WAS TOO SHORT AND PUMPING FUEL WHEN THE TANK WAS BELOW 1/4 OF A TANK. *AK
PROBLEM WAS FIXED BY DEALER WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED. WHILE AT DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD THAT 2-F150 CAME IN WITH SAME PROBLEM, WHETHER THAT WAS TRUE I DO NOT KNOW
TWO FRONT TORSION BARS FAILED BY SHEARING, APPROXIMATELY 2" FORWARD OF THE REAR FRAME SOCKET MOUNTING. BARS FAILED AT DIFFERENT TIMES, ONE WEEK APART. LEFT SIDE FAILED FIRST. DEALER FIRST ADVISED THAT VEHICLE COULD BE DRIVEN WITH CARE, LATER ADVISED THAT VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. BROKEN RH SIDE TORSION BAR OBSERVED DURING REPLACEMENT OF LH SIDE TORSION BAR. VEHICLE NOW OUT OF SERVICE 11 DAYS CONTINUOUSLY, DEALER STILL HAS NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO REPLACE LH SIDE TORSION BAR.
TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER BECAUSE ELECTRONIC FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HIGH SYSTEM WHOULD RANDOMLY JUST DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING. CONTINUES TO DO SO TODAY, AND DEALER SAYS FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND MIGHT BE WORKING ON A FIX FOR THIS MODEL YEAR. SUPPOSEDLY A PROBLEM FOR MANY PEOPLE. *AK
ON 1/11/99 I WENT INTO OUR GARAGE AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT LEFT OF OUR EXPEDITION WAS NOTICEBLY LOWER THAN NORMAL. I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND SAW A BAR BROKEN AND HANGING THERE.
IN HIGH/ WINDY CLIMATE, VEHICLE IS BLOWEN AROUND WHICH MAY CAUSE A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, AND COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
POWER WINDOWS GO UP AND DOWN INTERMITTENTLY. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN WINTER WHEN WINDOWS WERE UP.*AK
DEALER HAD TO TIGHTEN AND REGLUE THE JAM NUT TO THE FRONT LEFT TIE ROD END AND ADJUST THE SLEEVE, WHICH MAY CAUSE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. *AK.ET.
WHILE DRIVING IN SNOW AND SLEET THE WINDSHIELD COULD NOT BE CLEARED. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 20 DEGREES, THE DEFROSTER WAS SET TO MAXIMUM SPEED AND TEMPERATURE. ICE FORMED ON THE WINDSHIELD VERY QUICKLY, AND THE WIPERS AND DEFROSTER WERE TOTALLY INE
VEHICLE EXPERIENCES CONTINUED STALLING AFTER REPLACEMENT OF FUEL TANK.
DT: WHEN THE BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED, THE ABS SYSTEM PREVENTS THE BRAKE FROM ENGAGING. AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES, THE BRAKES RE-ENGAGE. GENERALLY HAPPENS MORE OFTEN WHEN THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE IS AROUND THIRTY-TWO DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. DEALER STATED THAT NO PROBLEM COULD BE FOUND. *TT
GAS CAP FAILED, CAUSING LEAK. *YC
I HAVE HAD THE DRIVE TRAIN FROM THE TRANSMISSION BACK REPLACED AND STILL HAVE A VIBRATION THRUOUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. ALONG WITH THIS IT IS DIFFICULT TO STAY IN YOUR LANE WHILE DRIVING. THE FIX FROM FORD WAS TO HANG A TWENTY OR SO POUND WIEGHT OFF THE DIFFERENTIAL. THROUGH THE TSB ON THE VEICHLE PRINT OUT I WAS ALSO INFORMED TO WATCH OUT FOR THE TIRES SPINNING ON THE WHEEL FORM 45 - 80 MPH (FORD TSB - SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE 11276 UNDER VIBRATIONS CONCERNS)
WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP OUT OF ORDER. YH

WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILED.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF GROCERY STORE AND THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BURN COMPLETELY UP. THE FIRE STARTED FROM THE FUEL LINE. *AK
GENERATOR SYSTEM FAILED.
TIRES (255/70 R16 GOODYEAR) FAILED. YH
EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE CABLE IS RUBBING AGAINST THE SUSPENSION THAT GOES UP AND DOWN IN THE BACK, WEARING A HOLE IN THE CABLE. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED AND IS NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
