TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 0 AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUG POPPED OUT AND STRIPPED THE ENGINE HEAD. ONE OF THE ENGINE HEADS HAS TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 70,306. UPDATED 02/15/08. *LJ

1999 FORD EXPEDITION 5.4 MOTOR BLEW SPARK PLUG ON PASSENGER SIDE-REAR PLUG. *TR
I OWN A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. YESTERDAY, MY FIANCE AND KIDS WERE ON THEIR WAY TO SCHOOL WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED. UPON INSPECTION, WE FOUND THAT THE ENGINE HAD EJECTED THE #3 SPARK PLUG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THIS CAUSED THE COIL PACK TO "SHATTER" AS WELL AS THE PLUG CABLE ATTACHED TO IT. I'VE DONE EXTENSIVE SEARCHING ON THE SUBJECT, AND THERE HAVE BEEN INCIDENTS REPORTED OF FIRES CAUSED BY THESE PLUG EJECTIONS. ALSO, HUNDREDS OF CONSUMERS HAVE BEEN STUCK WITH REPAIR COSTS OF SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS A RECALL. LIVES ARE AT RISK. *TR
EVERY TIME IT RAINS. WHEN SUV IS PARKED AND TURNED OFF THE WIPERS COME ON. HEADLAMPS AND FLASHERS GO ON AND OFF. RADIO TURNS ON AND OFF. VEHICLE TRIES TO START ITSELF WITHOUT KEY IN THE IGNITION. BATTERY DISCHARGES. *TR
I PURCHASED A 1999 FORD WINDSTAR SEL 3 YEARS AGO AND HAVE HAD HELL WITH IT EVER SINCE. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY BEEN OWNED BY ONE OTHER PERSON AND HE HAD TO PUT A NEW TRANSMISSION IN IT RIGHT OVER 50,000 MILES. @ 130,000 MILES I TOO HAD TO PUT ANOTHER TRANSMISSION IN IT. NOW THE VAN HAS 160000 AND I AM AGAIN HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I THINK THAT FORD HAS DONE A TERRIBLE JOB OF TAKING CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND THEY ARE LOOSING ME AS A CUSTOMER. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD. *TR
1999 FORD EXPEDITION 5.4L WHILE DRIVING HEARD LOUD NOISE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. PULLED OVER AND LIFTED HOOD SEEN THAT NUMBER 3 COIL WAS MOVED AND SPARKPLUG WS ATTACHED. PLUG HAD BEEN BLOWN OUT OF SPARKPLUG HOLE AND STRIPPED THE THREADS OUT AS IT CAME OUT. GAS WAS BEING BLOWN OUT OF PLUG HOLE AND THE SPARKPLUG WAS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO THE GAS COMING OUTMAKING A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. HAVE TO HAVE CYLINDER HEAD REPLACED TO FIX STRIPPED THREADS. *TR
NUMBER 3 SPARK PLUG WAS EJECTED .CAR WAS TOWED, AND AS OF THIS EMAIL IS BEING REPAIRED IN FLORIDA. WE WERE ON VACATION AT THE TIME. HEAD WAS REMOVED, AND IS BEING REPAIRED. WE HAD TO RENT A CAR TO GET BACK TO PA. ALSO HAVE TO FLY BACK TO FLORIDA TO DRIVE CAR BACK TO PA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED IN OCTOBER 2007 AND THE AGAIN ON MARCH 21, 2008. THE SPARK PLUG CAME OUT OF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH. HE FOUND THE SPARK PLUG SITTING ON TOP OF THE ENGINE. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT YOUR NUMBER THREE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT THE ENGINE BLOCK. HE ALSO STATED THAT IF HE WERE DRIVING FASTER THAN 25 MPH THE SPARK PLUG WOULD HAVE GONE THROUGH THE HOOD AND THEN THE WINDSHIELD. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO ASSIST HIM WITH THE REPAIR. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS $3,000 TO $7,000. THE CONTACT ALSO FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCY AND WAS NOT GIVEN A CASE NUMBER TO REFERENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED ON A REGULAR BASIS. THERE ARE INVOICES AVAILABLE TO SHOW EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AND DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11622 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13000.
I OWN A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION TRUCK, THIS TRUCK CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BLEW UP TUESDAY OCTOBER 2, 2007 AT APPROXIMATELY 7:02 PM. I HAD JUST FINISHED PARKING THE TRUCK 7 MINUTES PRIOR TO IT CATCHING ON FIRE AND BLOWING UP. THE VEHICLE IS NOW OF NO USE. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED WROTE FORD TWICE ABOUT THE DEFECT BUT FORD INFORMED HIM THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE ON THE VEHICLE. STARTED MY VEHICLE AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE FOLLOWED BY A STEADY POPPING NOISE. I OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND THE REAR SPARK PLUG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD BEEN BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE. I HAVE SINCE READ HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS OCCURRING, SOME CAUSING FIRES. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE JUMPED IN THE AIR AS THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE DETACHED SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 99V099000 (WHEELS:LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS) WAS REFERENCED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 150,000.
THE #3 SPARK PLUG BLEW COMPLETELY OUT OF MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION, FORD REFUSES TO REPAIR IT SAYING THAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN THE RESULT OF SOME SORT OF ABUSE OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER SEEING THOUSANDS OF THESE TYPE OF COMPLAINTS FROM THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE CLASS, IT IS REASONABLE TO CONCLUDE THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW, IF THE FUEL RAIL HAD BEEN COMPROMISED, THE END RESULT CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FIRE. I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD REQUIRE FORD TO EITHER REPAIR THE AFFECTED DEFECTIVE ENGINES, OR COMPENSATE THE OWNERS FOR THEIR REPAIRS... *TR
DEAR SIRS, I OWN A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION, THE ENGINE SEEMED TO BE HAVE OPERATED FINE UNTIL THE # 3 SPARK PLUG BLEW COMPLETELY OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. IF THE PLUG AND THE DESTROYED COIL WOULD HAVE RUPTURED THE FUEL RAIL THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE GONE UP IN FLAMES. I HOPE THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ON THE PART OF FORD TO REPAIR THIS UNBELIEVINGLY, AMAZING , AND VERY COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM FORD WAS BRUSHING UNDER THE RUG. MY FORD EXPEDITION CAUGHT ON FIRE ON 4TH OF JUNE 2007. IN MY DRIVEWAY AT 5 AM - MY GARAGE WAS BURNED AND THE CAR WAS A CRISP. *TR
AFTER GOING THROUGH A CAR WASH ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON MY 99' FORD EXPEDITION STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. ALL GAUGES GOING BACK AND FORTH VIOLENTLY MANY WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATING LOUD CLICKING AND POPPING NOISES LIKE SHORTING OUT NOISES IN FUSE BOX AREA. BATTERY DIED SHORTLY AFTER WHILE IN TRAFFIC HEADING HOME LEAVING ME STRANDED COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. REPLACED OLD BATTERY WITH NEW ONE AND STILL EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL FAILURES. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL IN MY 1999 FORD WINDSTAR HAS BEEN GOING HAYWIRE SINCE MAY 2007. ALL THE NEEDLES WERE GOING ROUND AND ROUND WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD TAKEN IT TO GRIFFEN BROTHERS AND THEY CON NOT FIND A INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ANYWHERE. THEY CALLED FORD MOTORS AND THEY WERE TOLD THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS IN NATIONAL BACK ORDER. IF THEY ARE IN NATIONAL BACK ORDER, THAT MUST MEAN THAT THERE ARE ALOT OF THE SAME PROBLEMS EVERYWHERE. SHOULDN'T THIS HAVE BEEN A RECALL ISSUE? ON AUGUST 30, 2007 GRIFFEN CALLED ME AND SAID THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT THEY ORDERED ON 8/20, 2007. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT ANY INFORMATION YOU MIGHT HAVE ABOUT THE FORD WINDSTARS HAVING THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. A T.V. STATION I HAD CONTACTED ABOUT HIS PROBLEM TOLD ME TO CONTACT YOU. LAST NIGHT THE 1999 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER EDITION SUDDENLY WENT UP IN FLAMES FROM A FIRE THAT STARTED BY ITSELF UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS PARKED IN THE CARPORT NEXT TO THE TAHOE WHICH WE ALSO LOST DUE TO THE FIRE. THE FORD VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR 2 DAYS BEFORE IT WENT UP INTO FLAMES. WE LOST 2 VEHICLES AND OUR CARPORT. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR COULD NOT FIND THE EXACT CAUSE BECAUSE OF ALL THE DAMAGE. HOWEVER, WE KNEW WE WERE NOT ALONE IN THIS. THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE THAT WERE VICTIMS OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEIR FAULTY VEHICLES THAT SUDDENLY WENT UP IN FLAMES .*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE CYLINDER HEAD, WHICH CAUSED THE SPARK PLUG TO DISENGAGE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 86,800.
SPARK PLUG EJECTED, VERY INCONVENIENT, VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVABLE CAN NOT AFFORD TO REPAIR NEED THE CAR FOR WORK. *TR
ON 4/4/07, AT ABOUT 1:15 AM MY HUSBAND HAD JUST GOTTEN HOME FROM A LONG DAY AT WORK AND AT 1:30 AM 2 PASSENGERS BANGED ON DOOR TO INFORM US THAT 1999 FORD EXPEDITION WAS ON FIRE. THANKS TO THEM, WE WERE ABLE TO GET MY FAMILY, INCLUDING MY 3 KIDS, AND MY MOM AND DAD , WHO WAS ON OXYGEN 24 HOURS A DAY), OUT OF THE HOUSE. WE CALLED 911 TO INFORM THEM OF THE FIRE. THE POLICE CAME WITHIN MINUTES , AND THEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED A FEW MINUTES AFTERWARDS TO PUT THE FIRE OUT. WE WATCHED FROM OUR NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET AS THE FIRE BURNED. WE WERE GRATEFUL THAT IT WASN'T ANY WORST. THE ENGINE IN THE TRUCK WAS ALL BURNT, THE HOOD WAS GONE, SOME OF THE PIECES EVEN BURNT ONTO THE PAVEMENT IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE WHOLE INSIDE OF THE TRUCK WAS BURNT, INCLUDING THE CAR SEATS FOR THE CHILDREN. MY DAUGHTER'S SOFTBALL EQUIPMENT, AND ANY OTHER ITEMS LEFT IN CAR. AS FOR THE HOUSE, LUCKILY, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT THE FIRE OUT IN TIME AND THE WIND WAS BLOWING NORTH EAST. THE ONLY DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE WAS THE SIDING SINCE THE TRUCK WAS PARKED ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE HOUSE. WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE VALUE OF THE TRUCK IN FAIR CONDITION, ACCORDING TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY. ALSO, WE A HAD THE SIDING OF THE HOUSE FIXED. WE WERE STILL TRYING TO CLEAN UP THE PAVEMENT IN THE DRIVEWAY. LIKE I SAID, WE WERE GRATEFUL FOR WHAT DIDN'T HAPPEN, BUT I WAS VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE TRUCK. WE RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE IN 2005 AND DID MAKE THE APPOINTMENT TO FIX IT AS SOON AS WE KNEW ABOUT IT. WE EVEN PARKED THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE UNTIL WE HAD IT FIXED BY FORD. IT IS 2007 AND FORD STILL DIDN'T GET THE PART IN TO FIX THE RECALL, AND THIS STILL HAPPENED. RECALLS LIKE THIS SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY, AND VEHICLE SHOULD BE PULLED OFF THE STREET UNTIL THE PART CAME IN. FORD SHOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING FURTHER TO AVOID THIS FROM HAPPENING 2 YEARS AFTER IT WAS TEMPORARILY FIXED.*AK
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. HE WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ALUMINUM HEAD SPARK PLUGS, THE NUMBER 3 & 4 CYLINDER FAILED, AND THE MECHANIC TOLD HIM IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW. THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY NOT HAVING ENOUGH THREAD IN THE ALUMINUM SPARK PLUG HEAD. HE NEEDED A NEW ENGINE OR A HEAD JOB. IT WILL COST HIM OVER $3000. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 110,000.*AK
5.4 TRITON ENGINE SPARK PLUG BLOWN AT 77,000 MILES ON MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. *JB
FAILURE OF REAR BRAKE SUPPLY LINE RUBBING AGAINST STEERING COUPLER, CAUSING REPLACEMENT OF BRAKE LINE. I HAVE SENT A CERTIFIED LETTER TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY ADVISING THEM OF THIS MALFUNCTION, AND HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A REPLY FROM THEM.*AK I CAN FURNISHED A COPY OF THIS LETTER WITH THE PROBLEM OUTLINED IF NEEDED.
CHILD SAFETY LOCKS BEGAN ENGAGING ON THEIR OWN AND MY CHILDREN WERE UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. FOR SAFETY CONCERNS (IN CASE THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT, ETC. WHERE MY CHILDREN HAD TO GET OUT) I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED AND THEN ASKED FOR REIMBURSEMENT AS IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. (NO RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM WERE FOUND). FORD DOES NOT BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, NOR DOES IT BELIEVE I AM DUE REIMBURSEMENT. I DISAGREE AND BELIEVE A RECALL SHOULD BE IMPOSED AND I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED. *NM
THE REFLECTIVE MATERIAL FOR THE DOOR MIRRORS FAILS ON 1999 FORD EXPEDITIONS. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THE 2001 FORD EXPEDITION WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE THE DAY AFTER IT WAS TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE CONTACT STATED NO WORK HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BY THE REPAIR SHOP. THE FIRE DAMAGE WAS TO THE HARNESS AND BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR, ALL OF WHICH MELTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE REPAIR SHOP THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE FOR THE GEAR SHIFT. THE CONTACT STATED HE NEVER RECEIVED RECALL LETTER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE FORD CORPORATE OFFICE ON 1/15/07. THE CONTACT STATED THEY SENT A RECALL LETTER ON JANUARY 18, 2007 THAT WAS DATED DECEMBER 2006. THE CONTACT RECENTLY RECEIVED A LETTER WHICH STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE THEY HAD SENT OUT RECALL LETTERS DATED 10/4/05, 11/29/05 & 4/17/06. THE CONTACT DID NOT KNOW IF PICTURES WERE TAKEN OF THE FIRE DAMAGE. *AK
UNDER NORMAL USAGE AT @ 135,000 MILES OIL BEGAN TO LEAK FROM THE REAR OF THE HEAD GASKET ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE. THERE ARE AT LEAST FIVE TSB'S IN EFFECT FOR THIS PROBLEM. NO REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE ACCOUNT PROHIBITIVE COST. TRUCK BEING DRIVEN. ADDING 1 QUART OF OIL ABOUT EVERY 2 WEEKS. *JB
HEAD GASKET FAILURE. RIGHT HAND, REAR SIDE OF THE ENGINE. I CAN SMELL STRONG BURNING OIL WHEN ENGINE IS RUNNING AND AFTER SHUT-OFF. OIL SATURATED STARTER. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT 25 MPH ON A CITY STREET, THERE WAS A LOSS OF BRAKING POWER, AND AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. ALTHOUGH NO CRASH OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, WHO DETERMINED THE STEEL PIPE FITTINGS,HOSES, AND CONNECTIONS OF THE BRAKES WERE CORROSIVE, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ADDITIONALLY, IT WAS DETERMINED THE CORROSION WAS DUE TO USE OF INFERIOR METALS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
I HAVE A 1999 EXPEDITION WITH 90,000 MILES. IN EARLY DECEMBER OF 2006, IN HEAVY EVENING TRAFFIC, A CAR SUDDENLY PULLED IN FRONT OF ME AND CAME TO A QUICK STOP. I APPLIED THE BRAKES VERY HARD AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I MANAGED TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR THAT STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME, BUT MY BRAKES WERE GONE AND I HAD TO LIMP TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. UPON INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT MY BRAKE LINE TO THE LEFT REAR BRAKE HAD CORRODED AND FAILED. I GOT THE VEHICLE HOME AND ON A NEIGHBORS LIFT AND FOUND THAT ALL MY BRAKE LINES HAD CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LINES ON MY 1993 ECONOLINE THAT ALSO CORRODED AT ABOUT 90000 MILES. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE BRAKE LINES IN THESE VEHICLES WERE MADE FROM CHEAP METAL AND THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM AS IT APPEARS TO BE QUITE A COMMON OCCURRENCE. I REPLACED ALL BRAKE LINES, INCLUDING THE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER AND TO THE POWER ASSIST UNIT. THE OLD PARTS WERE THROWN AWAY. *NM
EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE: (1) STARTED WITH FOG LIGHT SWITCH NOT WORKING. (3) TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE WINDSHIELD WAS LEAKING AND SHORTED THE SWITCH. SERVICE ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT LEAK BY LEAVING WINDSHIELD IN PLACE AND PROVIDING MORE SEALANT. (1) LEAK IN WINDSHIELD DISCOVERED TO PERSIST AFTER BATTERY DRAINED DUE TO RADIO AND VARIOUS ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS WOULD CONTINUE EVEN WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. MOST RECENTLY, THE STARTER WOULD REPEATEDLY ATTEMPT TO START THE ENGINE RANDOMLY AFTER THE ENGINE WAS STARTED AND EVEN WHILE THE KEY WAS OUT OF THE IGNITION! (2) WITH THIS UNCONTROLLED ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY BATTERY DRAIN WAS CAUSING STRANDING AND THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE THE SMELL OF AN ELECTRICAL FIRE WAS NOTED. (3) THE CAR WAS TAKEN IMMEDIATELY TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE, WHERE CURRENTLY THE GEM MODULE AND FUSE BOX ARE GETTING REPLACED AS WELL AS THE WINDSHIELD TO FIX THE LEAK - I WAS TOLD THAT THE ORIGINAL WINDSHIELD CANNOT BE RE-SEALED AS IT WILL BREAK WHEN REMOVED. I DON'T HAVE VIN WITH ME AT THIS VERY MOMENT, BUT CAN SUBMIT IT LATER. WHAT DOES OEM MEAN NEXT TO THE DEFECTIVE ELEMENTS I'VE LISTED? *NM
MY FORD EXPEDITION WAS OUTFITTED A LITTLE OVER 3 YEARS AGO WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLERS BY FORD DUE TO THE FIRESTONE TIRE FAILURE. RECENTLY, WHILE WASHING THE VEHICLE I NOTICED FAILURE IN THE SIDEWALL OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE. ALL AROUND THE RIM APPROXIMATELY 1/2 TO 3/4" FROM THE RIM THERE ARE CRACKS IN THE RUBBER SIDEWALL OPENING UP AS THE EARTH DOES DURING AN EARTHQUAKE. THESE ARE APPROXIMATELY 2-3" LONG AND A LITTLE OVER 1/8" DEEP SO FAR. THIS IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR THREE YEAR OLD TIRES. THESE WILL BE REMOVED BEFORE THE NEXT LONG TRIP AS I WILL NOT WAIT FOR FAILURE AND PUT MY OR MY FAMILY IN DANGER. *JB

SOME OF THEIR WINDSHIELDS ARE NOT SEALED PROPERLY -IN A HARD RAIN WATER LEAKS INTO THE FUSE BOX CAUSING AN ELECTRICAL BURNING, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STOP RUNNING INSTANTLY! I SENT YOU AN E-MAIL ABOUT A WEEK AGO BRINGING TO YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE WITH FORD TRUCKS. WHAT HAPPENS IS IN A HARD RAIN WATER COMES INTO THE FUSE PANEL, IT SHORTS OUT, THE GEM SHORTS OUT, THE PCM SHORTS OUT, > > YOU SMELL AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL, ALL GAUGES START GOING CRAZY AND TRUCK CUTS OUT INSTANTLY! THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OUR FAMILY -ONCE PULLING OUT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC (DURING A HARD RAIN) THE TRUCK STOPPED RUNNING INSTANTLY. GOT SOMEONE TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE. THE SECOND TIME AT LEAST SIX MONTHS LATER, AGAIN IN HARD RAIN - SAME SITUATION THIS TIME MY HUSBAND WAS 170 MILES AWAY. THIS TIME HE SMELLED AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. AFTER SMELLING THIS HE GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK AND PULLED OUT THE BATTERY IN FEAR OF WHAT WAS NEXT. LATER PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN HOWEVER, THIS TIME A JUMP WOULDN'T WORK . HE GOT A "NEW" BATTERY AND THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER LAKE FORD IN LEWISTOWN, PA. HERE'S WHAT THEY SAY. THE FUSE PANEL HAS TO BE REPLACED IT WAS SHORTED OUT ALONG WITH THE GEM, AND THE PCM. WITH ALL THAT TOTALING OVER $800.00. AND JUST YESTERDAY I TALKED TO LAKE FORD AND THEY INFORMED ME THEIR GOING TO PUT IN A NEW ALTERNATOR AND IT ALSO NEEDS A NEW INSTRUMENT PANEL DUE TO IT WAS BURNED OUT ALSO. (APPROX $700.00) AND THEY TELL US THAT EVEN AFTER ALL OF THE ABOVE IS FIXED THE TRUCKS RADIO AND AIR BAGS! WILL NOT WORK THEY TOO WERE SHORTED INTERNALLY. SO WHEN WE GET OUR TRUCK BACK AND PAYING OVER $1,500 WE WILL HAVE NO AIRBAGS! ALL DUE TO A FORD MANUFACTURING ERROR.(WINDSHIELDS NOT SEALED PROPERLY). EVEN MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE DOLLARS WE WILL HAVE TO PAY. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE NEXT PERSON WILL THEY BE ABLE AS LUCKY AS US AND AVOID A SERIOUS ACCIDENT? DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THERE WAS A NOTICEABLE BOUNCE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER BEING TAKEN TO A PRIVATE REPAIR SHOP, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE REAR AIR SUSPENSION BAGS WERE DEFLATED, AND THERE WAS NO AIR GETTING TO THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THERE WAS NO LEAK FOUND IN THE BAGS, AND THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE DEFLATION.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE BOLTS WERE SNAPPING OFF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAS YET TO BE REPAIRED.
DURING DRIVING OF VEHICLE ALL GAUGES WENT TO ZERO, LIGHTS WOULDN'T WORK, RADIO WENT OUT, AC WENT OUT, WINDOWS, ETC. REPLACED THE BATTERY AND IT WORKED FINE FOR 1 DAY. PUT IN A NEW BATTERY AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF WITH A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FUSE BOX. REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND TRIED TO HOOK UP BATTERY. VEHICLE STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. NOW WE ARE LOOKING AT HAVING TO REPLACE THE GEM AND FUSE BOX DUE TO WATER/MOISTURE. ISN'T THERE SOMETHING WE CAN DO ABOUT THIS? IT IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM AS YOU CAN SEE FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS. *NM
I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD WITH MY THREE CHILDREN DURING RUSH HOUR. I HEARD A LOUD POP FOLLOWED BY THE WHAT SOUNDED LIKE MACHINE GUN FIRE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE. I WAS FEARFUL OF THE SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN AND HAD THEM LEAVE THE CAR. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. A FORD REPAIRMAN LOOKED AT THE CAR AND STATED THAT THE #3 PASSENGER SIDE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. HE STATED THAT THIS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE. HE SAID THAT THEY SEE MANY OF THESE EACH WEEK AND THAT IT IS USUALLY THE #3 SPARK PLUG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. HE STATED THAT IT WOULD BE $2500-$5000 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. WE WERE TOLD BY ANOTHER FORD DEALER THAT HE COULD FIX IT FOR $300-$500. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED THERE AND DESPITE INFORMING HIM WHICH SPARK PLUG IT WAS, UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE HE CLAIMED IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO REPAIR AND INCREASED THE REPAIR PRICE TO $2100. WHEN WE OBJECTED HE OFFERED TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE FOR $200-$300. WE FEEL AS IF THE FORD DEALERS ARE USING THIS ISSUE TO RUN A BATE AND SWITCH. WE HAVE INVESTIGATED THE MATTER ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND MANY OTHERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE AND FORD'S FAILURE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET INJURED IF THEY FAIL TO CORRECT THEIR DESIGN DEFECT. *NM
MY FORD EXPEDITION STOPPED BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE TEMPERATURE. I AM NOW GOING INTO WINTER, AND I CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO DEFROST THE WINDOWS WHICH COULD CAUSE A VERY SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. THE "BLEND DOOR" IS PLASTIC IN MY YEAR, AND FORD CHANGED IT TO NYLON DURING THE PRODUCTION RUN. I AM LEFT WITH A DEFECTIVE BLEND DOOR, AND VEHICLE AND FORD HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE FIX ($1,700) IS MY RESPONSIBILITY NOT THEIRS. 1999 FORD EXPEDITION, 88K MILES, SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM PASSENGER SIDE OF ENGINE. THIS OCCURRED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHILE IN LEFT LANE OF SMOKETOWN ROAD IN PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VIRGINIA. THE VEHICLE STALLED AFTER I LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL RIGHT AFTER A LOUD BANG AND POPPING SOUND WAS HEARD IN ENGINE. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, BUT HAD TO KEEP THE RPM'S UP TO KEEP FROM STALLING. AFTER CUTTING OFF SEVERAL CARS IN CENTER AND RIGHT LANE, THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT ON RIGHT SIDE OF ROAD. I DETECTED A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE PRESENT WHEN HOOD WAS RAISED. NOT ONCE DID THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT COME ON; UNLIKE ALL THE OTHER TIMES IT CAME ON WHEN NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A FORD DEALER AND A $3400 HEAD REPLACEMENT PERFORMED BECAUSE HEAD WAS RUINED BY STRIPPED SPARK PLUG EJECTING. UPON CHECKING INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING INCREASING PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THAT AN INQUIRY DONE BY YOUR AGENCY CONCLUDED IN JANUARY OF 2006 THAT THIS IS A RARELY OCCURRING INCIDENT OF LITTLE TO NO DANGER. I BEG TO DIFFER. A SIMPLE GOOGLE QUERY WILL SHOW THOUSANDS IF NOT TENS OF THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING FORD TRITON ENGINE SPARK PLUG PROBLEMS POSTED ON VARIOUS MESSAGE BOARDS. IT IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED EITHER DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY FROM THIS OBVIOUS PROBLEM. I'M JUST GLAD I WAS ALONE DRIVING AND NOT MY WIFE AND CHILDREN.
