PURCHASED TRUCK ON 02/15/2008, AND THE BRAKES WENT ON THE TRUCK ON 02/21/2008, WHICH ALMOST CAUSE ME TO GO HEADON WITH A SEMI-TRUCK. TOLD DEALER ABOUT BRAKES GOING OUT BUT DIDN'T CARE ABOUT IT. TOLD HIM ABOUT ME TAKING THE TRUCK TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THE INDICATED THAT IT WAS THE MOTOR THAT HAVE THE 5 CYLINDER MISSING IN THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE HAD A LOT OF DEFECTS WITH THE ENGINE. TOOK THE REPORTS TO THE DEALER AND HE SAID HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT BUT HE INDICATED TO ME THAT HE WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK. HE TOLD ME TO FIX IT MYSELF AND PAY HIM THE CAR NOTE. *TR
I OWN A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION AND AFTER A HARD OVERNIGHT RAIN AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BEGAN. WHEN I GOT INTO IT THE NEXT MORNING THE RADIO WAS PLAYING AND THE HEATER DISPLAY WAS ON. WHEN I STARTED IT ALL SEEMED NORMAL UNTIL I PUT IT INTO GEAR AND THE RADIO STOPPED, THE HEATER STOPPED, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULDN'T WORK, AND THE WINDOWS WOULDN'T LOWER AND WHEN PUT BACK INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL. I BROUGHT IT INTO THE FORD DEALER WHO DOES ALL MY REPAIRS AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE GEM MODULE AND IT WOULD COST $1000.00 FOR REPAIR. I HAVE NO CHOICE SO I AUTHORIZED THE REPAIR. HE THEN INFORMED ME THAT WHEN I PICK IT UP I NEED TO TAKE IT TO A WINDSHIELD REPAIR SHOP TO GET THE WINDSHIELD RESEALED DUE TO A DEFECTIVE SEAL THAT CAUSED A LEAK THAT CAUSED THE GEM MODULE TO MALFUNCTION. IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A LARGE BURDEN TO PUT ON THE CONSUMER SINCE IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT AND THERE IS NO ASSURANCE THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. I ALSO BELIEVE THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHILE DRIVING OR WIPERS TO MALFUNCTION IN THE RAIN OR ANY NUMBER OF OTHER PROBLEMS SINCE THIS MODULE CONTROLS SO MANY OF THE VEHICLES CONTROLS AND INSTRUMENTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED IN THE GARAGE AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE HOUSE AND THE OTHER VEHICLE PARKED IN THE GARAGE WERE BURNED. THE SHERIFF AND FIRE DEPARTMENT ISSUED CASE NUMBER 09021176 AND CONCLUDED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 89,000.
WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE COIL PACKS GO OUT, LEADING UP TO THE FIRE. OUR GARAGE COUGHT FIRE AND BURNT OUR NEW HOME DOWN. *TR
WINDSHIELD LEAKS WATER ON TO GEM MODULE AND FUSE BOX. AFTER RAIN OR SNOW VEHICLE WILL TRY TO START WHILE ALREADY RUNNING WIPERS, RADIO, DOOR LOCKS, POWER WINDOWS, LIGHTS FLASHERS WILL NOT WORK. DUMMY LIGHTS ON DASH WILL COME ON THAT WATER LEVEL LOW, NO OIL PRESSURE AND LOW BATTERY. NOW IT WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT THREE MONTHS AGO WITH FORD MOTOR COMPNY AND THEY HAVE YET TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I EVER FILED REPORT. *TR
MY 00 FORD EXPY HAS SEVERAL ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WHEN EVER THERE'S RAIN THIS LATEST INCIDENT HAPPEN ON 1/6/08 I CAME OUT OF MY HOUSE BECAUSE I KEEP ON HEARING LIKE SOMEONE WAS TRYING TO START THE TRUCK AND YEAH IT HAD BEEN RAINING ALL NIGHT I OPEN THE TRUCK AND THE RADIO WAS ON THE LIGHTS WERE COMING ON I STARTED THE TRUCK AND WHEN IT WAS ON THE STARTER WAS STILL SPINNING HITTING THE FLY WHEEL I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY I THINK IF THERE'S WATER LEAKING EVERYTIME IT RAINS IT COULD CREATE A SHORT AND CAUSE A FIRE ON THE TRUCK I WILL LIKE SOMEONE TO LOOK INTO THIS THANKS *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HEARD KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE SKIPPED. THE DEALER STATED THAT ONE OF THE COIL PACKS CAUSED THE FAILURE AND THEY MADE THE REPLACEMENT. APPROXIMATELY ELEVEN MONTHS LATER THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE NUMBER THREE AND SIX COIL PACKS NEED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THEY NOTICED GUNK ON THE SPARK PLUGS. AS OF DECEMBER 27, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 143,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. AFTER A HEAVY RAINSTORM, WATER SEEPS IN THROUGH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD DOWN INTO THE ELECTRONIC FUSE BOX. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND THEY REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC FUSE BOX AND WINDSHIELD AT THE COST OF $1,400. AFTER ANOTHER HEAVY RAINSTORM, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD OR INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AGAIN AND THEY STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V258000 (VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR) WAS REFERENCED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
RAIN/SNOW CAUSE WATER TO LEAK INTO THE GEM MODULE & FUSE BOX UNDER DRIVER'S SIDE DASHBOARD CAUSING COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE, WACKY ELECTRICAL THINGS LIKE FAN MOTOR RUNNING WITHOUT KEY IN IGNITION, STRANGE "STUPID LIGHTS" PERIODICALLY ON DASH, ETC. HAVE REPLACED THESE TWICE, VERY EXPENSIVE. *TR
SPARK PLUG # 2 WAS SPIT OUT OF THE ENGINE DUE TO POOR DESIGN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. THE DEALER INSTALLED NEW SPARK PLUGS AND A NEW COIL. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 171,000. I OWN A FORD EXPEDITION 2000. THE PAINT OF THE CAR IS LETTING GO FORM THE PRIMER THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. I CHECKED ON LINE AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A BODY SHOP AND THE STATED THAT FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE SINCE IT IS THE PRIMER THAT IS LETTING GO OF THE METAL AND BUBBLING THE PAINT RIGHT IF THE CAR. WHEN THE PAINT FLAKES OFF IT IS JUST THE METAL AND NO RUST AT THAT POINT THEN WITH IN DAYS IT IS RUST PLEASE HELP. *TR
2000 FORD EXPEDITION SPARK PLUG EJECTED. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING SOUTH ON I-95 AT APPROX 65 MPH, THE PASSENGER RIGHT REAR TIRE FAILED. IT APPEARS THAT THE FAILURE MODE WAS TREAD SEPARATION/DETACHMENT. THE TREAD ENDED UP WRAPPED AROUND THE REAR AXLE. AT THE MOMENT OF THE FAILURE THE 2000 FORD EXPEDITION TORQUED HARD TO THE RIGHT, BUT CONTROL WAS MAINTAINED. FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS INCIDENT IS THAT THE FAILED TIRE WAS A REPLACEMENT FOR A RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 02T012000) BY CONTINENTAL TIRE CO. AND REPLACED BY A FORD DEALERSHIP. THE FAILURE OF THE REPLACEMENT TIRE FITS THE EXACT DESCRIPTION AS STATED IN THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION REPORT. *TR
OUR 2000 FORD EXPEDITION CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 11 HRS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT THEN STALLED AGAIN. THERE WAS A LOSS OF STEERING. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A SERVICE STATION. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 101,000. UPDATED 12/12/07
MY HUSBAND BOUGHT ME A 2000 EXPEDITION 9/15/2007, ON 10/26/2007 AFTER A RAIN, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WENT CRAZY. WHEN I OPEN THE DOOR, THE RADIO WAS ON AND THE CHIRP LIKE I HAD A KEY IN THE IGNITION, NOT ONLY TO SAY, I JUST REPLACE THE BATTERY THIS MORNING. THE BLOWER MOTOR WILL NOT CUT OFF EVEN THOUGH THE KEY IS OUT. AND THE RADIO WILL TURN OFF WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. *TR
OUR 2000 FORD EXPEDITION SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTED IN OUR DRIVEWAY AFTER SITTING FOR 2 DAYS. IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. I AM APPALLED THAT CONGRESS IS SO UPSET AT TOYOTA WHEN FORD KNOWS THAT 11 MILLION VEHICLES HAVE THESE FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL SWITCHES AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO GET FORD TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. OUR HOUSE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND MY WIFE AND 2 DOGS ESCAPED WITH THEIR LIVES. THE SAME DAY IN A NEIGHBORING COMMUNITY ANOTHER FAMILY'S HOUSE WAS BURNED DOWN BY A 2001 EXPEDITION WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY ARE YOU SO CRITICAL OF A FOREIGN COMPANY AND SO AMBIVALENT TO A DOMESTIC CAR COMPANY WITH A HISTORY OF DEFECTS THAT THEY DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR? THESE VEHICLES ARE STILL EXPLODING AND KILLING PEOPLE AND YET I DO NOT HEAR ANY OUTRAGE OVER THIS.*TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND FOLLOWED BY A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO GLIDE THE VEHICLE DOWNHILL AND INTO HER DRIVEWAY. A MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HOLE. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 140,000.
WE RECENTLY HAD A SPECIALIST INSPECT THE 2000 EDDIE BAUER FORD EXPEDITION BECAUSE OF REPEATED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. HE FOUND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR FORD ON THE FAILURE OF WINDSHIELD SEALS. HE FURTHER ADVISES THAT THE REPAIRS WILL BE IN EXCESS OF $1000. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED FAILURE OF THE VEHICLES ELECTRIC SYSTEM AS OUTLINED ON AT LEAST 5 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. ALL TIMES WERE PRECEDED BY MOISTURE. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONED, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED, THE BLOWER MOTOR WAS ON HIGH WITH IGNITION OFF, THE RADIO SHUTS OFF, THE INTERIOR DASH LIGHTS REMAINED ON, ETC. I HAVE HAD MY MECHANIC REPLACE SEVERAL ITEMS INCLUDING THE FUSES AND RELAYS FOR THE ELECTRONICS. *TR
HEADLAMP SWITCH BLEW/FAILED/CHARRED AND SMOKE CAME OUT OF HEAT/AC DASH VENT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY.
OUR 2000 FORD EXPEDITION HAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT WAS DESCRIBED IN FORD SPECIAL NOTICE 15773. WHEN IT RAINS, WATER LEAKS INTO THE GEM/CJB AND CAUSES THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO SHORT OUT. THIS RESULTS IN BLOWERS RUNNING WHILE THE KEY IS NOT IN THE IGNITION, THE CAR TO STALL OUT WHILE IN USE, AND THE CAR TO NOT START AT ALL AT SOMETIMES. SINCE IT IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, IT MAY ALSO LEAD TO VEHICLE FIRE. THIS OCCURS EVERY TIME THERE IS RAIN/SNOW. THE DEALERSHIP HAS LOOKED AT THE PROBLEM BEFORE, BUT HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET AND FINDING MANY OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. FINALLY, ONE POST REFERENCED FORD SPECIAL NOTICE 15773 WHICH DESCRIBES EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING TO OUR VEHICLE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE FIRES AND WORSE OCCUR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. THE DRIVER FRONT, REAR AND THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AND REAR GOOD YEAR WRANGLER RTS TIRES HAD 2 INCH SPLITS IN THE SIDE WALL. THE DOT NUMBER WAS 4BCUC6WR0306. THEY WERE REPLACEMENT TIRES WITH APPROXIMATELY 35000 MILES ON THEM. THE TIRE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 95000.

A FIRE INSPECTOR WAS SENT OUT AND STATED THAT THE FIRE WAS A RESULT OF A RECALL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT CONSULTED FORD AND SENT ALL THE INFORMATION THEY REQUESTED; HOWEVER, THEY HAVE YET TO CALL HIM BACK. THEY ADVISED HIM TO CALL THEIR LEGAL DEPARTMENT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE PURCHASE DATE AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 181,000.
WITH NO WARNING SPARE TIRE CABLE SNAPPED WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROAD CAUSING SPARE TIRE TO FALL OUT AND STRIKE REAR WHEEL OF VEHICLE, THEN FLEW OFF SIDE OF ROAD. DISCUSSION WITH FORD INDICATED THIS IS UNHEARD OF AND THEY WANTED $300+ TO REPAIR. DISCUSSIONS WITH MULTIPLE OTHER SHOPS (NOT FORD) INDICATE THIS DOES HAPPEN WITH THIS TYPE OF SPARE MOUNT. REPAIRS COMPLETED FOR UNDER $150. I AM CONCERNED THAT SPARE CAN COME OUT AND ONCE LOOSE HIT OTHER VEHICLES OR PROPERTY/PERSONS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO RIDE VERY HARD OVER ROUGH TERRAIN. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE SUSPENSION FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO LOWER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD PERFORM A FREE DIAGNOSTIC. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 40,000.
2000 FORD EXPEDITION - WHEN IT RAINS - THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM GOES CRAZY. SOMETIMES THE DEFROSTER WILL BE ON (NO KEY IN THE IGNITION). OTHER TIMES, LIGHTS, RADIO, WIPERS CONTROL THEMSELVES. TONIGHT 9/4/07 - THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS TRYING TO STEAL IT - HOWEVER - (NO KEY IN THE IGNITION) IT WAS TRYING TO CRANK(START) OVER. WE HAD TO REMOVE A BATTERY CABLE FOR IT TO STOP. *JB

ON 07/28/2007 MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVE WAY WE HAD GOTTEN BACK FROM THE STORE AN HOUR AGO WHEN MY LAND LORD COMES KNOCKING ON MY DOOR SAYING YOUR TRUCK IS ON FIRE SO WE WENT OUTSIDE AND IT WAS FLAMING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT IT OUT I CHECKED FOR ANY RECALLS ON THIS TRUCK AND THERE WAS ONE FOR THE SPEED DEACTIVATION SWITCH I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID SOMEONE WOULD BE CALLING ME SO A WEEK GOES BY AND I GET THIS LETTER SAYING THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO HELP ME IN ANY WAY BECAUSE THEIR RECORDS SHOWED THAT THEY SENT A LETTER IN 03/23/2006 I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS THE 2ND OWNER OF THIS TRUCK AND I NEVER GOT THIS LETTER SO THEY SAID TO BAD NO WE WILL NOT HELP YOU 4 DAYS LATER I GET THIS FORD LETTER SAYING THAT THEIR RECORDS HAD UP DATED AND THAT I WAS NOW THE CURRENT OWNER OF THIS TRUCK TO PLEASE TAKE IT IN TO HAVE THE RECALL DONE TO IT I CALLED BACK AND THE SAME THING THEY SAID NO NO NO. *JB

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 05V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL). THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 69,864.

FIVE MINUTES AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SMOKE AND THEN BURST INTO FLAMES. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. ON SEPTEMBER 28, 2005, THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL 05V017000. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 103,000.
MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION APPARENTLY HAD A RECALL FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH THAT COULD CATCH FIRE. IN JUNE 2007 MY VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED AND TURNED OFF FOR OVER 9 HOURS. WE LOST THE VEHICLE AND THE ENTIRE HOUSE. *TR

HE PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE SPARK PLUG WAS LOOSE AND DETACHED FROM THE FIFTH CYLINDER. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE ENTIRE ENGINE HEAD WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED TO DECREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF THE ISSUE RECURRING. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 114,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
I AM HAVING SEVERE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE 2000 FORD EB EXPEDITION. THESE PROBLEMS WERE CAUSED BY A DEFECT IN THE SEAL OF THE FACTORY INSTALLED WINDSHIELD LEAKING WATER INTO THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY INCIDENTS WHERE THE VEHICLE HAS BECOME INCAPACITATED, AND ONE INSTANCE WHEN SMOKE EMERGED FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE FRONT DASHBOARD WATER WAS SEEPING INTO THE CAB AND ACCESSING THE FUSE BOX. UPON CONTACT A SHORT WAS CREATED, CAUSING THE CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT, HEATER AND A/C UNIT FAN TO BEGIN BLOWING WHEN THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE MOST RECENT REPAIR WAS A RECURRANCE OF THE SAME BLOWN PLUG WHICH HAPPENED IN 2005. TO CORRECT THE ISSUES, THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED AND REINSERTED WITH REPAIR KITS TO HOPEFULLY PREVENT FUTURE BLOWOUTS. ADDITIONAL CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT I NO LONGER TRUST FORD OR MY VEHICLES RELIABILITY.
