IN THE AFTERNOON OF SATURDAY AUGUST 8, 2009 THE TIRE WARNING LIGHT IN MY 2004 EXPEDITION CAME ON. LATER I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED A TEAR IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THE TEAR WAS ABOUT 1/2" TO 3/4" LONG AT ABOUT WHERE THE STEEL BELT MEETS THE TIRE WALL. MONDAY AUGUST 10, 2009 AS I WAS TRAVEL SOUTH BOUND ON I 15 ABOUT 3 MILES SOUTH OF TEMESCAL CANYON EXIT. I HEARD AND FELT THE TIRE BLOW. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. THE ENTIRE STEEL BELT TREAD FROM WALL TO WALL HAD TORN OFF AND THERE WERE TWO LACERATIONS, COMPLETELY THROUGH THE TIRE, ABOUT 5" APART RUNNING FROM THE RIM TO THE TREAD. I WILL REPLACE THE TIRE. *TR
DRIVING MY 2004 FORD EXPEDITION DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN WE HERD A LOAD POP COMING FROM THE ENGINE, PULLED OVER THOUGHT IT WAS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. PULLED OF THE HIGHWAY AND LOOKED AT IT AGAIN TURNS OUT THAT THE ENGINE SPIT OUT THE SPARK PLUG AND SHREDDED THE RUBBER BOOT ON THE COIL PACK. THIS A PEARS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE , IF IT WENT ANY FARTHER UP IT COULD HAVE HIT AND RUPTURED THE FUEL RAIL AND IGNITED.THE GOOD THING IS THAT I HAVE ENGINE KNOWLEDGE AND KNEW TO DISCONNECT THE COIL PACK AND THE INJECTOR FOR THAT CYLINDER. I WAS 56 MILES AWAY FROM HOME AND PUTTED BACK HOME. DROP IT OF AT THE DEALER TONIGHT WILL WAIT TO HERE FROM THEM TOMORROW. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. SUDDENLY, A FAN BLOWING NOISE CAME FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AREA AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS BLINKED CONTINUOUSLY. THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AND TURNED OFF. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. WHEN THE BATTERY CABLE WAS DISCONNECTED THE FAILURES STOPPED. THE FAILURES OCCURRED UNDER RAINY CONDITIONS ON SEVERAL SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO WATER LEAKING INTO THE SMART JUNCTION BOX APART OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. 1 OWN A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION AND THE ORIGINAL PAINT IS BUBBLING UP ON THE TAILGATE AROUND THE LICENSE PLATE HOLDER AND DOOR HANDLE THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS AND FORD DOES NOT WANT TO EXCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
THERE IS NOTICE OF THESE TIRES THEY JUST BLOW OUT, CAUSING YOUR BACK INJURY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT NOTICED A VERTICAL CRACK STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE REAR TAILGATE WINDOW. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER AND HER INSURANCE ADJUSTER STATED THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE INSURANCE BECAUSE IT WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT OCCURS VERY OFTEN. FORD STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED THE FAILURE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE VEHICLE. SHE BELIEVES THAT THE ISSUE SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED AND IS CURRENTLY PARKED AT HER HOME. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 140,000.
THE SEAL AROUND THE WINDSHIELD IS COMING LOSE PRESENTING A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD TO THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WITHIN THE VEHICLE DUE TO WATER LEAKING THROUGH THE LOSE SEAL. *TR
INVOLVED IN AUTO ACCIDENT HIT MOTORIST THAT RAN A STOP SIGN THEN A UTILITY POLE TRAVELING APROX 35 MPH TOTALED OUT EXPEDITION AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION ON THE REAR LIFTGATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED WHO CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
MY FORD EXPEDITION HAS 32K MILES ON IT THE TIRES HAVE APPROXIMATELY 3/8" OR MORE THAN HALF OF THEIR TREAD LIFE LEFT. THE PASSENGERS SIDE REAR HAS A LARGE CRACK ABOUT 1" FROM THE RIM. THE REMAINING TIRES ARE ALL DRY ROTTEN NEAR THE TREAD. I FEEL THESE TIRES ARE UNSAFE AND WANT TO REPLACE THEM IMMEDIATELY. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,465. *TR
1. WE WERE DRIVING TO GO ON VACATION ON I-95 IN GEORGIA WHEN THE CAR BECAME OUT OF CONTROL WE SPUN AND HIT A GUARD RAIL BEFORE WE CAME TO A STOP. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. THERE WAS OVER 6500.00 IN DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. THE INSURANCE PAID FOR 3 TIRES BUT NOT THE ONE THAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. *TR
AN ACCIDENT HAPPEND JULY 18TH TO MY BROTHER AND HIS SON WITH A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION SAUDI ARABIA REGISTRATION HERE IN JORDAN IN AMMAN CITY, FLIPPID OVER FEW TIMES ON THE ROAD , BUT WITH LIABILITY INSSURANCE ONLY ( FORCED MANDATORY INSURRANCE ENTERING JORDAN ) AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT COMEOUT. IS THERE ANY CHANCE TO COMPLAIN AGAINST FORD MOTORS BECAUSE OF THE AIR BAG DID NOT COME OUT. *TR
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY 2004 FORD EXPEDITION WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. IT SEEMS ANY TIME IT RAINS OR I WASH THE CAR THERE IS SOME KIND OF ELECTRICAL SHORT THAT SHUTS IT DOWN. I'VE HEARD THERE IS A PROBLEM IN THE WINDSHIELD THAT WATER LEAKS TO THE ELECTRICAL BOX CAUSING PROBLEMS. I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS, BUT WHAT WORRIES ME IS THAT I SMELL SOMETHING BURNING. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS PROBLEM MY EVENTUALLY CAUSE A FIRE WHILE DRIVING. *TR
ON 6/22, THE RIGHT WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY FAILED WHILE TRAVELING ~20 MPH. AS A RESULT, A FIRE OCCURRED. I PUT THE FIRE OUT IN OUR DRIVEWAY AT HOME WITH A WATER HOSE. SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OCCURRED TO THE RIGHT WHEEL ASSEMBLY, BEARING HOUSING, 1/E AXLE, ROTOR, CALIPER, BRAKE PADS, EMERGENCY BRAKE, ETC...LUCKILY, WERE CLOSE TO HOME AND WERE NOT TRAVELING 70 MPH. NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES AS MY WIFE AND I WERE ABLE TO GET ALL OF OUR CHILDREN OUT OF THE EXPEDITION SAFELY. OUR EXPEDITION IS A 2004. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WITH A FAMILY MEMBER AND SOME FRIENDS BOTH SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED SIMULTANEOUSLY FOR NO REASON. IT WAS LIKE A GUN WENT OFF NEXT TO OUR EARS. DUE TO THE ODOR AND DUST IN THE VEHICLE WE ROLLED DOWN OUR WINDOWS TO AVOID INHALING THE POWDERY SUBSTANCE. I AM AMAZED WE DIDN'T WRECK. WE WERE TRAUMATIZED BY THE INTENSITY OF THE INCIDENT. MANY OF US HAD RINGING IN OUR EARS FOR SOMETIME AND I HAD CHEST PAINS FOR THE REST OF THE EVENING. WORDS REALLY CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW TERRIFYING IT WAS. WE TRIED TO FIGURE OUT WHAT MAY HAVE BEEN THE REASON FOR THE DEPLOYMENT. THERE WAS NO REASON WHATSOEVER THAT GAVE CAUSE TO THE DEPLOYMENT. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND US, WE DIDN'T BUMP INTO ANYTHING NOR DID ANYTHING BUMP INTO US. IT SCARED ME SO BAD THAT I HAD MY HUSBAND AND SON COME PICK ME UP FROM A FRIENDS HOUSE BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID THE FRONT AIRBAG MIGHT GO OFF AND DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE THAT RISK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE PAINT NEAR THE FRONT HOOD, THE REAR LIFT GATE, THE DOOR LATCH AND THE WIND-SHIELD WIPER HAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000. WE WERE DRIVING WITH CONTINENTAL TIRES (P265/70R17113S) ON AN ARIZONA HIGHWAY WHEN OUR REAR RIGHT TIRE SEPARATED. OUR VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY VEERED TO THE LEFT AND WENT UP A GUARDRAIL WITH A 30' DROP BELOW. OUR VEHICLE (FORD EXPEDITION) FLIPPED 360 DEGREES, LANDING ON ITS PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED. THE TIRES HAD SUFFICIENT TREAD. THE AUTHORITIES ON SITE TOOK PICTURES OF THE TREAD SEPARATION AND RECOMMENDED REPORTING THIS AS THE TIRE APPEARED TO BE DEFECTIVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COMPRESSOR HAD BEEN FAILING EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. ON MAY 11, 2008, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE SUSPENSION DROPPED AND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS RESTING ON THE REAR TIRES. THE SUSPENSION FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR MECHANIC. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 72,153.
CRUISE CONTROL STUCK AND THE SPEED WOULD ACCELERATE AND THERE WAS NO WAY TO TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL OR SLOW DOWN TRUCK. *TR
I HIT BLACK ICE SLAMMED INTO GUARDRAIL WITH FRONT OF CAR, SPUN AROUND 4 TIMES THEN HIT THE REAR OF CAR ON GUARDRAIL. MY LEGS HIT THE UNDER DASH BECAUSE THERE WAS NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY LEGS. THE WHOLE FRONT OF MY CAR WAS PUSHED INTO THE MOTOR. I DO HAVE PICTURES OF THE CRASH. THERE WAS OVER $13,000.00 DAMAGE AND MY CAR WAS TOTALED. I DON'T WANT ANYONE TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE PAIN AND STRUGGLES I HAVE HAD TO, THANK GOD MY GRANDSON WAS UNINJURED. WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE? CAN YOU HELP WITH LOCATING FORD? DON'T I HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE SAFE? THAT IS WHY I PURCHASED THIS CAR FOR THE SAFETY I WAS LED TO BELIEVE IT HAD. PLEASE HELP ME LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON SMOOTH PAVED ROAD, POW!! SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS ON PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE DEPLOYED. I DID NOT SWERVE, HIT A POTHOLE OR ANY TYPE OF IMPACT THEY JUST POPPED OUT AND SCARED ME TO DEATH! I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED A WEEK LATER. ON JANUARY 21, 2008, THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT ONE OF THE HARNESSES WAS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO LOSE POWER. THE DEALER ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT RELATED TO A PREVIOUS CRASH THAT OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER IN THE CORPORATE DIVISION STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE REQUIRED TO PAY $2,700 TO REPLACE THE HARNESS, BUT LATER ADJUSTED THE PRICE TO $780. THE CONTACT'S CLAIM NUMBER WITH THE MANUFACTURER WAS 1386151017. THE CONTACT DOES NOT FEEL THAT HE SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE PART AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. HE ASKED IF THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE, BUT NO ONE HAS GIVEN HIM A RESPONSE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE AT REDUCED SPEEDS TO PREVENT THE ENGINE FROM SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE 55 MPH, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED AND WAS REQUESTING SPECIFICS REGARDING HIS YEAR, MAKE, MODEL VEHICLE AND 4.6L ENGINE. THE DEALER INFORMATION WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,000 AND APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. MY 2004 FORD EXPEDITION HAS HAD A PROBLEM SINCE WE BOUGHT IT FROM THE DEALER. THE ADVANCETRAC WILL ENGAGE ON DRY SURFACES AND SMOOTH ROADS. IT WILL HAPPEN ANYTIME OF YEAR WHEN THE ROAD IS DRY AND SHOULD HAVE NO REASON FOR TURNING ON. I ALMOST CRASHED OCTOBER 31 2007, THE ABS TURNED ON AND I COULD NOT STEER, I SLOWLY CAME TO A STOP IN ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT WAS HARD TO STOP WHILE THE ABS WAS STILL ENGAGED THE WHOLE TIME. I THEN TURNED OFF THE ADVANCETRAC AND I DROVE RIGHT TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM TO FIX IT. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR IN MANY TIMES TO PHIL LONG FORD THEY COULD NEVER GET THE CAR TO ENGAGE FOR THEM. IT HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN I EVER WANT TO COUNT. THEY HAVE REPLACED A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT THINGS BUT IT STILL HAS THIS PROBLEM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!! *TR
ON 10/20/07, THE SIDEWALL OF MY GOODYEAR FORTERA (RIGHT REAR) FAILED. MY WIFE LOST PRESSURE AND HAD TO AAA CHANGE THE TIRE. GOODYEAR STATED (LA QUINTA DEALER) THE TIRE WAS DAMAGE BY A UNKNOWN OBJECT. ON 10/26/07, I WAS DRIVING DRIVING WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE FAILED. I PULLED OVER AND CHANGED THE TIRE. I LATER HAD THE TIRE INSPECTED AND THE INNER SIDEWALL SEPARATED AND APPEARED TO BE THE SAME SIZE AND DETAIL OF THE PREVIOUS TIRE FAILURE. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE GOODYEAR DEALER (CEDAR CITY UT) THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD DRIVEN ON THE TIRE TOO LONG AND I CAUSED THE DAMAGE. I WAS LUCKY, I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CHANGED THE TIRE BEFORE I LOST ALL AIR PRESSURE. THERE WAS "NO DAMAGE" ON THE TIRE DUE TO MY DRIVING. THE DAMAGE TIRE FAILURE WAS ABOUT A 4-5 INCH RECTANGULAR SHAPE HOLE. THE SECOND TIRE BEGAN THE SAME WAY. THE SIDEWALL BEGAN TO SEPARATE IN THE SAME FASHION AND HAD NOT "BLOWN OUT" PRIOR TO ME CHANGING IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS INADEQUATE SEALANT ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. IN RAINY CONDITIONS, WATER WOULD LEAK INTO THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER UNIT WAS ACTIVATED, THE WINDSHIELD CLEANER WOULD ALSO LEAK INTO THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT COULD HEAR A CRACKLING SOUND COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD. ALL THE DIGITAL COMPONENTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BECAME INOPERABLE DUE TO THE LEAK IN THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD COULD BE RESEALED AT THE COST OF LESS THAN $100. IF THE WINDSHIELD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, IT WOULD COST OVER $200. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE ENGINE STARTED ON ITS OWN. THE VIN WAS UNABLE TO BE ACCEPTED BY THE SYSTEM. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 97,000. UPDATED 04-20-09 *BF UPDATED 04/24/09.*JB
BLACK PLASTIC TRIM MOLDING ON DOORS OF 2004 FORD EXPEDITION ARE FADING. ALL OF THEM ON THE ROAD OF THIS VINTAGE HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. *JB
2004 EXPEDITION XLT 2WD. TRYING TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) DEALING WITH THE REAR END/DIFFERENTIAL PROBLEM. I ALSO MENTIONED THAT JUST RECENTLY THERE IS A GURGLING SOUND COMING FROM THE EXHAUST. SOUNDS LIKE IT WANTS TO BACKFIRE OR LIKE THERE IS WATER IN THE SYSTEM. I WAS TOLD BY THE ART HILL DEALERSHIP THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE DIFFERENTIAL AND THAT THEY CAN NOT FIX THE EXHAUST UNTIL I GET THE DIFFERENTIAL FIXED. EVERY OTHER DEALERSHIP I TALK TO GIVES ME THE RUN AROUND AND SAY IT'S MY PROBLEM. WE'VE HAD MUSTANGS IN THE PAST AND THIS IS OUR SECOND EXPEDITION. WE'VE ALWAYS LOVED FORDS UP UNTIL NOW!!! THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 03-05 EXPEDITIONS REAR END/DIFFERENTIAL BUT IT SEEMS TO BE IGNORED. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE TIRES AT FIRST SO I REPLACE THEM, THEN I WAS TOLD IT WOULD GO AWAY. WELL IT HASN'T AND THEN I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST 1,727.00 TO FIX!!!! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!! WE WERE THINKING OF PURCHASING A 2007 MODEL BUT THE SERVICE THAT WE HAVE BEEN RECEIVING LATELY.....WE MAY TRY ANOTHER BRAND. PLEASE HELP WE WANT TO STAY WITH FORD.. *TR

REAR A/C ACTUATOR SUDDENLY FAILED WITH NO WARNING. ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND DEALERSHIP SAID THAT AN ANIMAL CHEWED THROUGH THE WIRES TO THE ABS COMPUTER, WHICH WAS ODD BECAUSE I LIVE IN THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES WHERE THIS WAS UNHEARD OFF. COST ME $688 AND THE ABS LIGHT REMAINED ON. I DON'T EVEN HAVE PROOF THAT THEY DID ANYTHING. TRANSMISSION STOPPED SHIFTING INTO OVERDRIVE. DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE ABS COMPUTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. COST ME $450. ABS LIGHT WENT OFF, BUT TRANSMISSION STILL DOESN'T SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE. DEALERSHIP NOW SAYS THAT MY OVERDRIVE BAND IS WORN. THEY QUOTED ME $3,300 TO FIX. I HAVE ALSO HAD 3 BREAK JOBS WHICH COST $600 A PIECE PERFORMED IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS. WHICH I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY VEHICLE I' EVER OWNED. I HAVE A 2004 EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER. I REAR ENDED A 7 TON DUMP TRUCK GOING 40 MILES AN HOUR WHILE HE WAS AT A DEAD STOP. MY HOOD WAS IN A V AND NONE OF THE DOORS WOULD OPEN. THE FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF. IT WAS A VERY SOLID HIT IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE WENT OFF. ON 9/16/06 AT APPROXIMATELY. 64,500 MILES ON ODOMETER WITHOUT ANY SIMILAR PROBLEM, I STARTED CAR AT LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PARKING LOT #3 WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO ALL THE WAY THE FLOOR AS ENGINE STARTED AND ESCAPING AIR TYPE SOUND HEARD. PUMPED PEDAL AND EACH TIME IT DEPRESSED LESS AND LESS UNTIL FULL BRAKE PEDAL RETURNED. DROVE AND APPLIED BRAKE NUMEROUS TIMES WITHOUT INCIDENT UNTIL REACHING INTERSECTION OF SEPULVEDA BLVD. AND WEST SLAUSON AVENUE (3.34 MILES: PER MAP QUEST). ENTERED LEFT TURN LANE APPLYING BRAKE TO STOP FOR RED LIGHT. AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOORBOARD AGAIN. COULD NOT STOP AND VEHICLE PROCEEDED THROUGH SIGNAL. FORTUNATELY ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED OR THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. PUMPED PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AS VEHICLE COASTED FORWARD AND FULL BREAK PEDAL RETURNED. PROBLEM HASN'T RECURRED SINCE. TOOK VEHICLE TO VISTA FORD, WOODLAND HILLS. SERVICE TECH COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. (I HAVE SEEN NINE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS NHTSA SITE... 2004 FORD EXPEDITION; HAD ORIGINAL TIRES PUT BACK ON VEHICLE AFTER HAVE AUTHORIZED TIRES REMOVED. FACTORY TIRES HAD APPROXIMATELY 300 MILES ON THEM. SEVERE VIBRATION IN FRONT END OF CAR BEFORE AND AFTER FACTORY TIRES WERE REINSTALLED. PAID TO HAVE TWO 4-WHEEL ALIGNMENTS, BALANCING ON BOTH SETS OF TIRES (FACTORY AND FORD AUTHORIZED UPGRADES) IN TWO MONTHS. FORD COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUES WITH THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE". VIBRATION EXISTS WITH LESS THAN 1000 TOTAL MILES ON THE FACTORY TIRES. WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT BE BALANCED AND THAT I NEEDED TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. SECOND INCIDENT IS: THE LEATHER MATERIAL ON THE SEATS HAS CRACKED AND HARDENED. WHEN SITTING, IT BEGINS TO POKE AND SCRATCH AND CAUSE IRRITATION TO THE SKIN. FORD WILL REPLACE PART OF THE LEATHER, BUT REFUSES TO REPLACE ALL OF IT BECAUSE "THE DAMAGE IS NOT BAD ENOUGH". *NM

ON THREE OCCASIONS STARTING 6/21/06, AFTER PUTTING THE CAR INTO GEAR (FORWARD TWICE, REVERSE ONCE), THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY RACED AND LURCHED, AND AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE HAD TO BE APPLIED TO THE BRAKES TO TRY TO CONTROL THE CAR. THERE WERE THREE DIFFERENT DRIVERS EACH TIME WHO WILL ATTEST TO THIS. THE LAST OCCASION, MY WIFE WAS BACKING INTO OUR DRIVEWAY, STOPPED, PUT THE CARE IN 'PARK', AND THEN, AFTER A MINUTE, INTO REVERSE AGAIN, WHERE IT IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED TO A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED, SMASHED INTO MY SON'S VAN (TOTALING IT), PUSHED THE VAN ANOTHER 15 FEET OVER TWO TREES, WHERE SHE FINALLY HAD CONTROL OF THE BRAKE. WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE THAT NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT I'M VERY CONCERNED AT FORD'S RESPONSE. I TOOK IT TO SPRINGFIELD FORD, WHERE I PURCHASED THE CARE, AND WAS TOLD THAT, AFTER A THOROUGH CHECK THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, AND THAT THEY EVEN TALKED TO THE FORD 'HOTLINE', AND THAT THE FORD ENGINEERS HAD 'NEVER HEARD' OF A SITUATION LIKE THIS. I TOLD THE SERVICE REP THAT IF HE GOOGLED 'SUDDEN ACCELERATION' AND 'FORD' HE MIGHT GET AN EDUCATION. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I HAVE APPX $3-4,000 IN DAMAGES TO THE EXPEDITION, AND THE VAN, A '99 WINDSTAR IS BEYOND REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON A SECOND OCCASION FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FRONT ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE REAR ROTORS NEEDED TO BE RESURFACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHICH STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
BRAKES HAVE FAILED TO WORK PROPERLY ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THREE (3) TIMES WHEN I BACKED UP OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY...BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED...I ALMOST HIT THE TREES ACROSS STREET IN MY NEIGHBOR'S YARD. THERE WERE 5 PEOPLE IN THE TRUCK AND 2 PEOPLE IN THE BEDROOM OF THE HOUSE I ALMOST HIT. THIS BRAKE FAILURE ON THE 2004 EXPEDITION IS A REALLY BAD PROBLEM. YOU DRIVE THE TRUCK AT YOUR OWN RISK.
