ENGINE STOPS RUNNING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. SYSTEM DISPLAYS A CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL ERROR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
MY FORD EXPEDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MILES AN HOUR LOST POWER. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IN 2 YEARS IT HAS HAPPENED. ON THE INFO CENTER IT STATED ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE. THE THREE TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED HAS BEEN ON BACK ROADS.I CONSIDER THIS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION . MY DEALER LOOKED AT IT THE FIRST TWO TIMES AND SAID THERE WERE NO CODES, THAT I WOULD NEED TO BRING IT IN SOONER. BUT THERE ARE NO LASTING RESULTS, AND IT STARTS RIGHT BACK UP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND A WARNING NOTIFICATION APPEARED, INDICATING THERE WAS A CHARGING SYSTEM FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE COMPUTER HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON FOUR LANE HIGHWAY IN RIGHT LANE AT 40MPH. I NOTICED THE CAR STARTING TO SLOW DOWN AND WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL IT DID NOT REACT AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN. I LOOKED AT MY GAUGES ON THE DASH AND THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS AND ALL GAUGES READ NORMALLY. I THOUGHT I COULD SMELL SMOKE, AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN, AND I KNEW I NEEDED TO GET OFF THE ROAD AS TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY. AS I PULLED OFF THE ROAD INTO THE PARKING LOT FOR THE STRIP MALL, THE CAR STALLED, LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH TO INDICATE THE CAR STALLED AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR, PUT IT IN PARK AND TURN THE CAR OFF. I COULD SMELL SMOKE AND I COULD SEE SMOKE GOING OUT THE CAR WINDOWS FROM INSIDE THE CAR AS I HAD THE WINDOWS OPEN A COUPLE OF INCHES. THERE WAS NO SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I DEBATED WHETHER TO CALL AAA OR 911. AS THE SMOKE INCREASED I CALLED 911. I THEN WENT TO THE CAR TO GET MY PURSE. WHEN I OPENED THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE AND I THOUGHT I COULD SEE FIRE IN THE MIDDLE ROW OF SEAT ON THE FLOOR. I OPENED THE BACK DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SAW FLAMES SHOOTING UP FROM THE FLOOR 6 INCHES HIGH IN THE CENTER OF THE FLOOR. I TRIED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A SNOW SCRAPER WITH THE BRUSH END, BUT I WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. I ASKED THE DRY CLEANING LADY IF SHE HAD A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. IT TOOK 30 SECONDS TO GET THE EXTINGUISHER AND ON MY WAY BACK TO THE CAR, I COULD SEE FLAMES UNDER THE CAR AND WHEN I OPENED THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR THE FIRE HAD SPREAD TO THE BACK SEAT. I WAS FEARFUL FOR HOW FAST THE FIRE SPREAD AND THE SMOKE PREVENTED ME FROM REACHING THE FIRE WITH THE EXTINGUISHER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT THEN ARRIVED AND IT TOOK THEM 15-20 MINUTES TO PUT OUT THE FIRE AS THE FLAMES WERE SHOOTING AT LEAST 20 FEET INTO THE AIR. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I HAVE PICTURES I TOOK WITH MY PHONE. *TR
I HAVE HAD AN ENGINE CHECK LIGHT AND NO ONE CAN FIND THE PROBLEM. SOME MECHANICS TELL ME ITS ONE THING AND THE OTHERS SOMETHING ELSE. TOOK TO A.V FORD AND QUICKLANE IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD. MY TRUCK STAYED SEVERAL DAYS AT SHOP AND STILL CANT FIND PROBLEM. MECHANIC EVEN CALLED DETROIT PLANT TO GET ADVISE. STILL NOT RESOLVED. PAID TOO MUCH JUST TRYING TO FIGURE THE PROBLEM. HAS THERE BEEN ANY ISSUES BROUGHT TO YOU ABOUT ENGINE LIGHT ON FOR FORD TRUCKS. I HAVE DOCUMENTS OF VISITS TO MECHANICS IF YOU GUYS NEED THEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND IT IMMEDIATELY LOST ACCELERATION. AN ALARM ON DASH IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEMS AS ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL FAILURE. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND I WAS LUCKY NO ONE WAS FOLLOWING ME CLOSE. MY WIFE IS NOW SCARED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB ABOUT THIS ISSUE WHICH I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A RECALL WOULD BE INITIATED BY FORD. I SEARCHED AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I FIND THAT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE WITH EVERYTHING I HAVE READ ON THE WEBSITE. ANYONE ONE WHO READS THIS THAT HAS HAD THE PROBLEM SHOULD CALL FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND COMPLAIN. JUST GO TO FORD.COM AND CLICK ON SUPPORT TO GET THE PHONE NUMBER. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION WITH 84K MILES AND I WAS GOING 30 MPH WHEN I LOST THE GAS PEDAL(POWER) TO MY VEHICLE. WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN I PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD. LUCKY I WAS NOT HIT FROM BEHIND DUE TO LOSING POWER TO THE ENGINE. TURNED VEHICLE OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN TURNED BACK ON. NO WARNING LIGHT AND TRUCK RAN FINE. TOOK IT TO LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO FOR $98 TELLS ME I NEED TO SPEND ANOTHER $600 TO REPLACE THROTTLE BODY. AFTER A LONG DISCUSSION WITH SERVICE MANAGER I DECIDED TO DECLINE THE REPAIR UNTIL I CONTACT FORD AND NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY BOARD. *KB
VEHICLE STOPED RUNNING ON FLAT LEVEL READ AT 65 MILES PER HOUR.VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. VEHICLE HAD BEEN STALLING PRIOR. MECHANIC CANT PINPOINT PROBLEM BUT FEELS FUEL PUMP, FUEL PUMP MODULE, FUES BOX MALFUNCTION ARE THE CAUSE. TO MANY STORIES OF THIS PROBLEM SURFACING. MY FAMILY IN DANGER WITH VEHICLE STOPPED ON MAJOR HIGHWAY, CAUSED BY A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM FORD IS AWARE OF. *TT
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ACCELERATOR IS NOT RESPONDING AND SO I NEED TO COAST THE CAR TO THE CURVE. I CALLED THE DEALER AND SO MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND SO I TOOK THE CAR IN AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY REPLACED THE PART THIS WAS IN MARCH 2009, IT IS NOW JANUARY 21, 2012 AND I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE MESSAGE BOARD READS, CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SYSTEM. *TR
2005 FORD EXPEDITION HAS EXPERIENCED APPROXIMATELY 5 EPISODES WHERE IT HAS STALLED WITH NO NOTICE OR PRIOR INDICATION OF A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 50K MILES AND HAPPENED MOST RECENTLY AS ABOUT 120K MILES. ON AT LEAST 2 OCCASIONS THE CENTER DASH INDICATED ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE. EACH TIME, THE TRUCK COULD BE IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED AND WOULD OPERATE NORMALLY. THE ONLY COMMON CIRCUMSTANCE IS THAT THE TRUCK WAS COASTING TO A LOWER SPEED AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. NO CODES ARE RECORDED, SO NO TROUBLESHOOTING CAN BE PERFORMED. REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, BUT FAILURE HAS OCCURRED TWICE SINCE. THE NEXT STEP IS TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. *TR
TRAVELING IN A PARKING LOT CAR DIED AND SAID CHECK ELECTRIC THROTTLE CONTROL. WONT RUN OR CRANK. LEFT STUCK IN A PARKING LOT HAD TO GET TOWED HOME. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 EXPEDITION AND HAVE HAD A ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL FAILURE ON IT TWICE IN THE LAST 10 MONTHS. BOTH CASES HAPPENED WHILE TURNING THROUGH A MAJOR INTERSECTION, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN, BUT THERE WAS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN THE GAS PEDAL AND THE THROTTLE (STEPPING ON THE GAS HAD NO EFFECT). LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND ONTO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT GETTING HIT. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS IN DEC 2011, AND IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN THIS MORNING (1 OCT 2012), LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING AND SAFELY MANEUVERED OUT OF HARM'S WAY. IF IT HAD BEEN MY WIFE AND CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE, OR IF IT HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THERE ARE MANY REPORTS OF THIS SAME FAILURE ON THE INTERNET. I WILL NOT LET MY WIFE AND CHILDREN RIDE IN THE VEHICLE TRIED TO HAVE FIXED AT THE DEALER IN DEC 2011 AND THEY HAD NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT, JUST WANTED TO START REPLACING PARTS. CALLED THE DEALER AGAIN TODAY AND THEY HAD NO OTHER ANSWER. *TR
AT 45 MPH I LOST THROTTLE CONTROL AND WARNING LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING "ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL". I DRIFTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IN PARK AND TURNED OFF ENGINE. I RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND WARNING LIGHT WAS GONE. HAS BEEN FINE FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. READING EVERYBODY'S CONCERNS ON THIS ISSUE MAKES ME WONDER IF THERE REALLY IS A FIX FOR THIS. I CERTAINLY DON'T TRUST THE DEALERS......WHAT'S UP FORD??? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD ENGAGE INTO SAFE MODE ERRONEOUSLY AND STALL. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHUT OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST OR REPAIRS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE ENGINE RESTARTED AFTER WAITING A FEW MOMENTS AND RESUMED AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETECT A FAILURE CODE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TRAVELING ALONG CONGESTED CITY STREET DURING MORNING RUSH AND VEHICLE LOOSES ALL POWER. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS ARE ALL ON. MESSAGE SAY "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE" I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON TWICE BEFORE THE ERROR CLEARED. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING. BUT THESE OTHER REPORTS DON'T GIVE ME MUCH HOPE. AND I JUST PAID OFF THE NOTE LAST WEEK. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 60MPH ON US 85 N THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH A MESSAGE "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" THE SPEED BEGAN TO DROP AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. I BEGAN TO MERGE TO THE RIGHT TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND STARTED AGAIN. THEN I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE I COULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL PROBLEM. *KB
2005 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER, 90,000 MILES. (VEHICLE MANUFACTURED IN 2004.) WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEED THROTTLE STUCK IN FULLY DEPRESSED POSITION AFTER BEING ENGAGED FOR A ROUTINE PASS OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS NOTED TO ACCELERATE. ACCELERATOR PEDAL COULD NOT BE RETURNED TO NON-DEPRESSED STATE WHEN FORCE APPLIED. BRAKES APPLIED FORCEFULLY, VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE SLOWED OR BROUGHT TO A STOP. STRONG SMELL OF "BURNING" BRAKE PADS WAS NOTED. ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT VEHICLE INTO AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION POSITION OF NEUTRAL. NO CHANGE IN ENGINE SPEED NOTED. TRANSMISSION THEN SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. VEHICLE WHEELS LOCKED UP AND VEHICLE SKIDDED APPROXIMATELY 100 - 150 FEET BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. ANTILOCK SYSTEM AND OTHER SYSTEMS DID NOT ACTIVATE. AFTER COMING TO A STOP, THROTTLE PEDAL WAS INSPECTED. NO INTERIOR INTERFERENCE FROM FLOOR MATS OR OTHER MATERIALS NOTED. OPERATOR IS 100% CERTAIN AS A RESULT OF "REAL-TIME" VISUAL CONFIRMATION, THAT ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS WERE NOT MISTAKENLY ENGAGED OR DUALLY ENGAGED. CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED. VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED AND MAINTAINED REGULARLY AND WITH PRECISION AND DETAIL. VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY POST THE INCIDENT. THROTTLE BODY FOUND TO BE FOULED AND DIRTY. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC IS REASONABLY CERTAIN THAT DIRTY THROTTLE BODY IS MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF THIS EVENT. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HAS PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE OF SIMILAR THROTTLE BODY FAILURES PRODUCING SIMILAR EVENTS AS HAS BEEN DESCRIBED ABOVE. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD OTHER PREMATURE FAILURES, INCLUDING (1) NEED FOR TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE TO BE REBUILT AT 28,000 MILES; (2) FAILURE OF POWER DRIVER'S SEAT TO MOVE ON ITS TRACK AT 25,000 MILES; (3) PREMATURE CAM PHASER FAILURE AND REBUILD AT APPROXIMATELY 35,000 MILES. *TR

OUR VEHICLE IS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION LIMITED. ON TWO OCCASIONS THIS VEHICLE HAS UNEXPEDTEDLY LOST ALL POWER WITH THE MESSAGE "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE" APPEARING. ON ONE OCCASSION WE WERE MAKING A LEFT TURN ON A BUSY ROAD. WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WE WERE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC HAVING TO STOP SUDDENLY TO KEEP FROM HITTING US BROADSIDE. TURNING OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTING THE CAR MADE THE PROBLEM GO AWAY. LAST WEEK MY WIFE AND SON WERE IN THE VEHICLE COMING TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. MY WIFE HAD TO BREAK HARD AND NARROWLY MISSED HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. AFTER RESAEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET IT APPEARS THAT BOTH THESE PROBLEMS ARE COMMON WITH THE 2005 EXPEDITION. IF THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED SOMEONE YET IT IS AMAZING AND JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT HAPPENS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS PROBLEM IS BEING IGNORED BY FORD! *TT
MY WIFE AND 3 CHILDREN WERE DRIVING MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION DOWN HWY 29 IN LAKE COUNTY, CA. WHEN THE 2 FRONT AIRBAGS SUDDENLY DEPLOYED. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR IMPACT. LUCKILY MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO RETAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BUT HAS INJURIES HER CHEST AND NECK. THE CODES FROM THE VEHICLE DO NOT INDICATE ANY ERROR OR MALFUNCTION. IT WOULD MAKE SENSE THAT THIS INCIDENT IS RELATED TO THE F-150 RECALL ISSUE. *TR
VEHICLE HAS BEEN STALLING FOR ALMOST A YEAR. VEHICLE SHUT OFF ON BUSY HIGHWAY AND TOWED TO NEARBY REPAIR SHOP. MECHANIC FOUND FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE COMPLETELY CORRODED FROM BEHIND AND CIRCUIT BOARD EXPOSED TO MOISTURE. THE FPCM FRIED AND SHORTED OUT ONE LEG OF THE FUEL PUMP. BOTH PIECES HAD TO BE REPLACED. NEW FPCM INSTALLED WAS OBVIOUSLY REDESIGNED SO MODULE WOULD NOT SUFFER THIS FLAW AGAIN. I AM FINDING AN ALARMING AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET OF FORD EXPEDITION OWNER EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS UNDER MORE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS. *KB
WE WIFE HAS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION, IT IS USED MAINLY FOR HER TO HAUL OUR KIDS TO PRACTICE AND SCHOOL BACK AND FORTH. THE TRUCK IS CONSTANTLY DYING WHILE DRIVING IT. THE DISPLAY SHOWS CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL". THIS MORNING SHE WAS TAKING THE KIDS TO SCHOOL WHEN IT DIED WHILE GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT DEALERS WHO SAY THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT CAN CHECK IT OUT FOR $$$$$$ YET I CAN SEARCH THE INTERNET AND FIND THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENING TO THESE EXPEDITIONS. MY QUESTIONS IS WHY ISN'T FORD BEING RESPONSIBLE AND GETTING THESE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED IN THESE VEHICLES. CAN YOU IMAGINE DRIVING WITH YOUR LOVED ONES AND LOOSING FULL CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE AT ANYTIME.WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SHUTDOWN AT ALL SPEEDS. IT IS GETTING WORSE. WHERE IS THE RECALL FORD?? THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. WHILE TRAVELING 60-65 MPH, IN THE FAST LINE OF A FOUR LANE INTERSTATE, MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION SUFFERED ENGINE FAILURE. I AM REPORTING THE INCIDENT TO YOU BECAUSE WHEN WE PICKED UP OUR CAR AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, HAVING HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED, WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WERE TWO OTHER FORDS (1EXPEDITION AND 1F150) THAT CAME IN AFTER OURS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

THE REPORTED MODEL WAS CRUISING AT 65 MILES AN HOUR ALONG NORTH BOUND I-795 @ NC RTE 42, WILSON, NC (STATE POLICE RESPONDED TO THIS DISABLED VEHICLE CALL) VEHICLE ACTED LIKE IT RAN OUT OF GAS. ELECTRICAL PROVEOUT INDICATORS WERE NORMAL. IGNITION SYSTEM WAS FUNCTIONAL, AS WERE ALL OTHER FACETS OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SEEMED FINE DURING THE ENGINE POWER FAILURE, HOWEVER , LOSS OF STEERING POWER AND BRAKING POWER WAS EVIDENT AND PROMINENT. AFTER SAFELY COASTING OFF ONTO THE SHOULDER JUST PAST THE SAID INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY. A FINAL DIAGNOSIS WAS PERFORMED AND WAS DETERMINED OF A RELAY CONTACT FAILURE. THIS RELAY IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE MAIN POWER DISTRIBUTION PANEL / FUSE BLOCK RIGHT OF THE PASSENGER FOOT WELL. MAKING THIS PART INTEGRAL TO THE POWER BLOCK MAKES IT EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR AND MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE AS FAR AS A REASONABLE REPAIR TO A CRITICAL SYSTEM AND PLACES OTHER SYSTEMS AT RISK BY THE NATURE OF REPLACING THE ENTIRE POWER BLOCK TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM.. IE: THE FUEL PUMP. WHEN THIS RELAY CONTACT FAILS, POWER IS LOST TO THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVER'S REAR WHEEL WELL. THIS MODULE SUPPLY POWER TO THE FUEL PUMP MOTOR IN THE FUEL TANK. THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE ITSELF SHOULD BE SCRUTINIZED HENCE IT'S LOCATION MAKES IT VULNERABLE TO WEATHER AND QUICK CORROSION. *TR
ME HUSBAND AND I OWN A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION XLT (V8 5.4L). THE TRUCK HAS CUT OFF ON US SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST TO WEEKS, WITHOUT WARNING! IT HAS EVEN CUT OFF ON US ON THE HIGHWAY. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND IT RAN FINE. HOWEVER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW ILLUMINATED. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND HAVE OBSERVED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR MANY PEOPLE. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER THE NEXT DAY TO GET IT INSPECTED. THEY CLAIM IT WAS THE "THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR". I GOT THAT REPLACED FOR ~$340.00. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR WHEN DRIVING ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART IMMEDIATELY AND DRIVE AS NORMAL. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD POSSIBLY NEED REPLACING AT A COST OF $600. THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
2005 FORD EXPEDITION LIMITED ~83.5K MILES VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVEN ABOUT A HALF HOUR AND THE ENGINE STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING, UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, BRAKE OR STEER. COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD, SHUT VEHICLE OFF, RESTARTED. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, UNABLE TO REGISTER CODE HOWEVER I PROVIDED THEM WITH COMMENTS FROM ONLINE SITES POINTING TO THROTTLE CONTROL BODY FAILURE CAUSING ENGINE TO GO INTO FAILSAFE MODE. DEALERSHIP'S FIRST INCLINATION WITHOUT ANY CODES IS TO REPLACE A FUEL SENSOR. DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO ADDRESS THROTTLE CONTROL BODY DESPITE MY SUGGESTION ALONG WITH OTHER VEHICLE OWNER'S INCIDENT REPORTS FROM ONLINE SITES. 8 DAYS LATER WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING MYSELF AND FIVE CHILDREN, AFTER ABOUT A HALF HOUR OF DRIVING, HE FOUND HE WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, LOOKED AT THE MESSAGE CENTER AND IT SAID CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL AT WHICH TIME HE PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART. DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THE ONBOARD COMPUTER OR SENSORS ARE NOT STORING THESE CODES, THE PROBLEM IS SO FAR INTERMITTENT. THIS PARTICULAR DEALERSHIP DESPITE MY RESEARCH WOULD NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE. IT ALSO APPEARS FORD IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THIS EITHER. SO FAR, I HAVE FOUND ONE INSTANCE ONLINE WHERE THE OWNER OF A 2006 EXPEDITION WAS REIMBURSED FROM FORD FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THEIR ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL BODY THEREBY ACKNOWLEDGING SOME SEMBLANCE OF RESPONSIBILITY. THIS NEWER THROTTLE CONTROL BODY IS DIFFERENT THAN THE ORIGINAL, IMPROVED. WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL OR EVEN A TSB? HOW MANY REPORTS OF THERE OUT THERE, HOW MANY ACCIDENTS, INJURIES, POSSIBLY DEATHS MIGHT BE ATTRIBUTED TO THIS FAILURE? AFTER CONTACTING FORD, WE WILL HAVE THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY REPLACED. ALSO, IT APPEARS, PEOPLE ARE BEING SUGGESTED TO REPLACE THE SENSOR FIRST ONLY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM OCCUR AGAIN - IT'S NOT THE SENSOR, IT'S THE ACTUAL PART. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED, WHEN THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE POWER. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THEY WOULD DOCUMENT THE COMPLAINT AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 58,000. UPDATED 07/18/11
I OWN A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION AND HAVE EXPERIENCED LOSING ALL THROTTLE CONTROL ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO MAKE IT SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS SCARED . THERE WERE 5 PEOPLE IN THE VEHICLE INCLUDING TWO YOUNG CHILDREN. VERY DANGEROUS! THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE STARTED UP AGAIN WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. TODAY I HAVE A DIFFERENT PROBLEM. O/D LED FLASHES ON DASH AND VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC. THEY SUSPECT A TRANSMISSION FAULT. I WISH I NEVER DECIDED ON GETTING THIS SUV. I SHOULD NOT BE SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM ASAP!!!!! *TR
DRIVING AT 50MPH IN 2005 FORD EXPEDITION LMTD. WHEN LOST ALL THROTTLE CONTROL AND HAD TO TRY AND GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY. "CHECK THROTTLE CONTROL" WARNING CAME ON DURING INCIDENT. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME AT 108,500 MILES. IT SEEMS THIS IS HAPPENING A LOT ON THIS VEHICLE MODEL. NOT A VERY SAFE DEFECT FROM FORD.
