The brake is so far left, it is unsafe to drive. It is in the position the clutch would in an a Manual transmission and my right foot has trouble moving that far over and its unsafe to use my left as i'm never braked with my left foot.

DRIVING VEHICLE BRAKE FUNCTION SEEMS NORMAL, BUT RANDOMLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL DEPRESS FAR LOWER IN ORDER TO BRAKE. AFTER A FEW PUMPS IT RISES AND BRAKES AT A HIGHER POSITION. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC WHO HAD PREVIOUSLY REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG, ALSO DURING WEEK LONG TEST DRIVE MECHANIC DID NOT HAVE SAME EXPERIENCE. I HAVE HAD THE EXPERIENCE 5-6 TIMES, AND SPOUSE HAS ALSO HAD THE BRAKE PEDAL GO TOO FAR DOWN BEFORE IT BRAKES. THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED AT HIGH & LO SPEEDS STREET & HIGHWAY. IT IS VERY RANDOM TOO, DOES NOT HAPPEN ON EVERY VEHICLE USE.

I WAS READING IN A MAGAZINE ABOUT FORD HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILING, LEAKING INTO THE BOOSTER, CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE. THIS HAPPENED TO ME A FEW WEEKS AGO. I FIRST FELT MY BRAKE PEDAL GETTING WEAK. THEN I SAW A WARNING LIGHT. I FIRST THOUGHT MAYBE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS APPLIED?? IT WAS NOT. THEN I NOTICED I HAD VERY LITTLE BRAKE?? WHAT TO DO?? I DECIDED TO TRY TO GET BACK TO MY JOB, WHERE WE HAVE A SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I DROVE ABOUT 50 MILES WITH NO BRAKES!!! JUST TOOK MY TIME, BEING CAREFUL. ABOUT $800 LATER I'M ON THE ROAD AGAIN!!!

STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO FLOOR. HAD VEHICLE CHECKED BY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. VEHICLE BRAKES HAVE TO BE PUMPED A COUPLE OF TIMES EVERY TIME THEY ARE USED. TOOK IT BACK TO FORD DEALER. THEY SAY IT IS MASTER CYLINDER. ORDERED ONE OVER A WEEK AGO. FORD SUPPLY IS ALL OUT AND HAS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER WHICH MAKES IT SOUND AS IF I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THE BRAKE PROBLEM ALTHOUGH I CANNOT FIND A RECALL ON IT. DEALER IS ATTEMPTING TO FIND A MASTER CYLINDER THROUGH ANOTHER SOURCE. *TR
THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT OCCURS AND WAS FIRST NOTICED A COUPLE YEARS AGO. FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE PEDDLE GOES SOFT AND PULSATES, AS IF THE ABS IS ACTIVATED. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND JUST BACKING UP, TO JUST AFTER LEAVING AND MAKING THE FIRST BRAKE APPLICATION, AND AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OR MINUTES OF DRIVING. DURING THIS TIME IT APPEARS THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP NORMALLY. PUMPING OF THE BRAKE PEDAL OR MOMENTARILY HITTING THE BRAKE HARD CLEARED THE PROBLEM. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF A GENTLE BRAKE IS APPLIED OR IF YOU ARE SLOWING FOR A TURN OR BRAKING FOR A RED LIGHT OR A STOP. THIS OCCURS SOMETIMES SEVERAL DAYS IN A ROW OR NEARLY SO. BUT MOST OFTEN IT IS ISOLATED AND THEN DOES NOT OCCUR FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS TO BE RECURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. THIS HAS IN OCCURRED IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER CONDITIONS FROM DRY TO WET. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT VARYING SPEEDS WHETHER IN THE DRIVEWAY, IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA OR ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

DRIVING AT APPROX 35 MPH ON DRY PAVEMENT. I APPROACHED A 2 WAY INTERSECTION WITH ONE STOP SIGN. TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. BRAKES WERE PUMPED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NO CHANGE. VEHICLE WENT THROUGH STOP SIGN AND OFF THE ROAD EVENTUALLY COMING TO A STOP NATURALLY WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF THE BRAKES. VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN PARK AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WENT OFF. BRAKES WERE THEN PRESSED AGAIN AND BRAKE PRESSURE WAS FELT. IF A VEHICLE WOULD HAVE BEEN COMING THOUGH THE INTERSECTION A SERIOUS CRASH COULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
THIS IS A USED CAR WE WERE GOING TO BUY AT A REPUTABLE DEALER'S LOT. SALESMAN ASSURED US IT HAD NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION BY OUR MECHANIC, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD EXTENSIVE FRONT END DAMAGE, BEING REBUILT WITH SALVAGE PARTS AND REPAINTED, PROBABLY IN MEXICO. THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED COSTLY REPAIRS. IT HAD ALSO HAD THE TAILGATE REMOVED, POSSIBLY REPLACED, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS WELDED ON. *TR
MY VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHILE COMING INTO A CUB TO GET ONTO THE FREEWAY THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME MADE A SUDDEN STOP IN AN EMERGENCY PANIC I HIT MY BRAKES AND MY EXPEDITION NEVER ATTEMPTED TO STOP. AS I EXPLAINED TO TWO OF OFFICERS ON THE SCENE I WAS STANDING ON MY BRAKES AND IT WOULD NOT STOP. THE FOLLOWING BUSINESS DAY I WAS GIVEN INFORMATION FROM MY INSURANCE COMPANY THERE WAS A RASH OF PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL. FOLLOWING THE REPAIRS THE DEALERSHIP KEPT MY VEHICLE FOR 3 WEEKS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO MY BRAKE AND DISCOVERED FROM THE COMPUTER THERE WAS A PROBLEM PRIOR TO ME HAVING THE ACCIDENT. THE DAY I WENT TO PICK IT UP AFTER THREE WEEKS IN THE SHOP FOR BRAKES ALONE AGAIN I WAS PUT INTO MY FOURTH RENTAL VEHICLE BECAUSE THE TRUCK NEVER LEFT THE SHOP. TODAY MY BRAKES STILL WILL NOT STOP PROPERLY AND TO TOP IT OFF AFTER GIVING FORD A COPY OF THE RECALL FOR THE BRAKES, SENSORS, AND TRANSMISSION BY THE WAY OF WHICH THE DEALERSHIP HAS SUPPOSEDLY ADJUSTED PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT I STILL GOT STUCK WITH THE REPAIR BILLS. I TALKED WITH A CERTIFIED FORD BRAKE SPECIALIST THE DAY I GOT MY VEHICLE FROM THE SHOP AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED, WHAT THE DEALERSHIP SAID AND DID AS WELL AS MY BRAKES STILL GO TO FLOOR BUT NOT TO MY SURPRISE HE TOLD ME IT WAS NOT RIGHT AND NEEDED TO GO BACK BECAUSE THE VEHICLE STILL IN NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BUT THE DEALERSHIP INSIST THESE BRAKE ARE SUPPOSE TO BE SOFT AND SQUISHY AS THE SHOP FOREMAN TOLD ME. THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND UNFORTUNATELY IT IS MY ONLY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO TRADE IT OR GET ANOTHER AT THIS TIME BUT SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES DO EXIST. *TR
ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2011 ATTEMPTING TO APPLY MY BRAKES DUE TO A VEHICLE THAT ABRUPTLY STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP FEELING AS IF THE BRAKES WERE NOT GRIPPING I HIT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT THE FORD DEALERSHIP CHANGED THE REAR BRAKE TO INCLUDE INSTALLING A NEW REAR BRAKE LINE KIT STATING THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE FRONT AS THEY HAD NOT WORN DOWN YET. NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT ABS I INQUIRED ABOUT WHY THE REAR BRAKES WERE WORN AND THE FRONT BRAKES WERE STILL GOOD, I CANNOT REMEMBER THE EXPLANATION THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE GAVE BUT I FELT IT WAS NOT RIGHT. SIX MONTHS LATER MY BRAKES DON''T ALLOW ME TO STOP WHEN AN EMERGENCY ARISES PUTTING MY CHILDREN AND MYSELF IN DANGER ALONG WITH THE PEOPLE IN FRONT OF US HAD WE ALREADY BEEN ON THE FREEWAY. I CAN''T SAY FOR SURE IF IT WAS THE FRONT OR THE REAR BRAKES THAT SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN BUT IT DID NOT ATTEMPT TO STOP COMING INTO A DOWNHILL CURVE UNTO THE FREEWAY. THERE WAS NO HESITATION IN THE BRAKES NO MATTER HOW HARD I PRESSED THEM TO STOP. AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE CHECKED AT THE BODY SHOP IT WAS DETERMINED THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS BUT FORD IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEMS. *TR
DRIVER FIRST NOTICED THE SMELL OF BURNING BRAKES WHEN COMING TO A STOP AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY, ALL AT LOW SPEEDS (SPEED LIMIT WAS 35MPH OR LESS). AT THE NEXT INTERSECTION, DRIVER NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. DRIVER GOT OUT TO INSPECT THE WHEEL, AND NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER AND BRAKE ROTOR WERE EXTREMELY HOT AND SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE COMING FROM THEM. OTHER THREE WHEELS WERE COOL (NORMAL). THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS, ETC. TURNED OFF CAR, BACK ON, IN THE HOPE OF E.G. RESETTING THE ABS CONTROLLER -- NO CHANGES. BRAKES WERE SO HOT THAT DRIVER DECIDED TO DRIVE SOME NEARBY FRONTAGE ROADS AT LOW SPEEDS, WITHOUT USING THE BRAKES, IN AN ATTEMPT TO COOL THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE. MADE LITTLE DIFFERENCE. EVENTUALLY PARKED THE VEHICLE (BRAKING CONTINUED TO BE IMPAIRED), CAME BACK AROUND 1 HOUR LATER, BRAKE HAD COOLED DOWN, WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY. SIMILAR INSTANCE RECURRED ON 2012-12-18 -- AGAIN, RIGHT FRONT BRAKE, THIS TIME IN CITY DRIVING, ROTOR WAS GLOWING ORANGE (NOT YET ON FIRE) ON A COLD NIGHT WHEN DRIVER STOPPED TO LOOK AT IT AND PARK THE VEHICLE. THIS IS OF COURSE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AND COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF LIFE DUE TO FRONT BRAKE FAILURE. DRIVER IS AWARE THAT THERE IS A RECALL ( 07E105000) ASSOCIATED WITH THIS YEAR OF THE VEHICLE. FORD CLAIMS THAT THIS PARTICULAR VIN IS NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. HOWEVER, DRIVER (WHO IS EXPERIENCED WITH BRAKE SYSTEMS) FEELS THAT THESE TWO EVENTS ARE VERY SUGGESTIVE OF A FAILURE IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM TO RETURN FLUID FROM THE CALIPER, LEADING TO EXCESSIVE PRESSURE IN THE CALIPER, LEADING TO THESE PROBLEMS. DRIVER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO GET INFORMATION FROM FORD OR CONTINENTAL (OEM MANUFACTURER) THAT WOULD UNAMBIGUOUSLY SHOW THAT THE ABS AND BRAKE MODULES IN THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE ARE FREE FROM DEFECTS AND ARE NOT SUBJECT TO THIS RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TEST DRIVEN AND THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE ABS LIGHT CONTINUED TO ACTIVATE INDEPENDENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07E105000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR: ANTILOCK: CONTROL UNIT/MODULE FRONT BRAKE PADS).
