TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO AVOID A CRASH AFTER THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AUTOMATIC BRAKE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07E105000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
PULLING INTO THE GARAGE AND THE CAR SPONTANEOUSLY ACCELERATED CAUSING ME TO SLAM ON BRAKES. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING SPONTANEOUSLY SINCE I PURCHASED IT. THE FIRST TIME I WAS STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE CAR STARTED REVVING AND WANTED TO JUMP FORWARD, IF I HADN'T THROUGH THE CAR INTO PARK I WOULD HAVE HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07E105000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR). STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO FLOOR. HAD VEHICLE CHECKED BY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. VEHICLE BRAKES HAVE TO BE PUMPED A COUPLE OF TIMES EVERY TIME THEY ARE USED. TOOK IT BACK TO FORD DEALER. THEY SAY IT IS MASTER CYLINDER. ORDERED ONE OVER A WEEK AGO. FORD SUPPLY IS ALL OUT AND HAS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER WHICH MAKES IT SOUND AS IF I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THE BRAKE PROBLEM ALTHOUGH I CANNOT FIND A RECALL ON IT. DEALER IS ATTEMPTING TO FIND A MASTER CYLINDER THROUGH ANOTHER SOURCE. *TR
PAINT PEELING OFF UNDER FRONT OF HOOD AND UNDER REAR LIFT GATE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR FORD, I AM FINDING OUT. IT HAS APPARENTLY BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A DECADE. THE PAINT FLAKES OFF ON ANY ALUMINUM BODY PANELS THAT HAVE BEEN CONTAMINATED WITH IRON. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR IT FREE OF CHARGE. I ALSO CALLED FORD DIRECTLY TO COMPLAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL FOR THE PAINT SINCE THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
THE PAINT ON THE REAR OF MY TRUCK STARTING COMING OFF. I READ ONLINE THAT MANY FORD EXPEDITION OWNERS HAVE THIS SAME COMPLAINT AND THAT SOME OWNERS HAVE TAKEN FORD TO COURT TO FIX THIS. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. IT IS A WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE AND THE PAINT ONLY IN THE REAR STARTS BUBBLING UP AND THEN FALLING OFF. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY FORD. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2000 CROWN VICTORIA WITH NO PAINT FALLING OFF.
WHILE DRIVING MY EXPEDITION EL ON THE HIGHWAY AND ROUNDING A CURVE AT 65 MPH, THE ENGINE DIED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND COAST TO A STOP IN A SAFE LOCATION. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, BUT THEN STARTED AND RAN NORMALLY. I DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER AND DROPPED IT OFF. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS A FUEL PUMP FAILURE, AND INFORMED ME THAT THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER AND THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE A DELIVERY DATE. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR FOR 5 WEEKS, AND HAVE SPOKEN WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. AFTER FIRST OFFERING TO HELP WITH CAR RENTAL EXPENSES, I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD THAT THEY WILL NOT ASSIST ME WITH RENTAL EXPENSES. THEY ALSO HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO ADVISE A DATE WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE SO I CAN GET MY CAR BACK. MY $40,000 CAR IS NOW WORTH NOTHING, I CAN'T EVEN SELL IT. FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT, THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE WITH THIS FUEL PUMP DESIGN. I WOULD LIKE FORD TO ORDER A RECALL, PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, AND COVER MY CAR RENTAL EXPENSES UNTIL THEY CAN REPAIR MY CAR. *TT

WE HAVE ALWAYS PURCHASED FORD'S WE CONSIDER OURSELVES A FORD FAMILY, VERY LOYAL TO THEM. THIS IS OUR SECOND EXPEDITION WITH A PAINT BUBBLING ISSUE ON BOTH THE HOOD AND TAILGATE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD...MY HUSBAND DRIVES AN F250 SUPER DUTY THAT HE HAD HIS COMPANY OWNER GET AS A COMPANY VEHICLE. THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH HIS VEHICLE. THIS IS OUR 5TH PURCHASE OF A FORD VEHICLES, FORD PROBE, FORD EXPLORER, FORD F150, 2002 FORD EXPEDITION AND OUR CURRENT 2008 FORD EXPEDITION. AND THIS PROBLEM HAS ONLY OCCURRED WITH THE EXPEDITIONS. I LOOK AT OTHER FORD'S IN PARKING LOTS EVERYWHERE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS DEFINITELY A FACTORY PAINT DEFECT AND FORD SHOULD OFFER TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. AT THE START OF THE ENGINE, THERE IS A TICKLING NOISE THAT DOES NOT DISAPPEAR UNTIL AFTER THE FIRST GEAR IS AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED. TO ME, THIS LOOKS LIKE A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT ON THE VEHICLE RATHER THAN AN ENGINE PROBLEM BECAUSE AT 41000 MILES, SUCH PROBLEMS SHOULD NOT DEVELOP: THE VEHICLE IS RELATIVELY NEW. *TR
THE PAINT ON MY HOOD AND TAILGATE IS BUBBLING AND PEELING. I WAS TOLD THESE PARTS ARE ALUMINUM AND THE PROBLEM IS BEING CAUSED BY IMPROPER PREPARATION OF THE SURFACES. ABOUT 2 - 2 1/2 YEARS AGO WE LAID ARE MIDDLE SEAT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE ROW OF ARE EXPEDITION TO MAKE EASE OF ARE DOGS GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE. BUT NOW I'M IN THE PROCESS OF PUTTING THE SEAT UP TO GO TRAVEL, BUT I AM HAVING CONCERNS ABOUT THE SEAT CONSIDERING THE SEAT WILL NOT RE-LATCH IN THE UP RIGHT POSITION, TO MAKE IT CAPABLE OF HOLDING 8 PEOPLE TOTAL IN THE VEHICLE SAFELY. THE LOCAL SHOP DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE BUT DOES AGREE ITS A SAFETY HAZARD IN A WAY. THE ONLY SOLUTION THEY CAN THINK OF IS TO REPLACE OUT WHAT EVER PART THAT IS BAD AND THEN GO FROM THERE, PRICING ON PART ALONE IS RANGING AS HIGH AS 650 DOLLARS FOR EVERYTHING MINUS LABOR FEES. *TR
STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR DEFECTIVE. STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES INTERMITTENTLY. FORD IS AWARE OF DEFECT AND HAVE ISSUED A TSB CONCERNING ISSUE TO TECHS. *TR
IN 2011, MY INTERIOR PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE STOPPED OPENING THE DOOR BUT DIDN'T COME OFF. I THOUGHT IT JUST BROKE AND WOULD GET IT FIXED WHEN I COULD AFFORD TO. BUT THEN IN 2012, THE BACK INTERIOR PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF IN MY SON'S HAND BECAUSE HE WAS TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR AND GET OUT AND IT WOULDN'T UNLATCH. NOT TOO LONG AFTER, THE DRIVER SIDE BACK INTERIOR PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF IN MY HAND. NOW I WAS POSITIVE THERE HAD TO BE RECALL OF SOME SORT. SO I WENT SEARCHING FOR INFORMATION ONLINE. I CALLED MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH [XXX]. I EVEN TOOK MY CAR IN AND HE SAID MY VIN WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE INTERIOR DOOR LATCH HANDLE RECALL. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT CONSIDERING I HAD MULTIPLE HANDLES THAT BROKE OFF WITHOUT ANY FORCE AT ALL. AS THE DRIVER, I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR OPENING ALL PASSENGER DOORS TO LET PEOPLE OUT OF MY CAR. TODAY, JANUARY 20TH, 2017, THE DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF RIGHT IN MY HANDS. NOW, NOT EVEN I AS THE DRIVER CAN GET OUT WITHOUT THE WINDOW BEING DOWN TO ACCESS THE EXTERIOR HANDLE. I HAVE 6 CHILDREN AND NOBODY CAN GET OUT OF THE CAR NOW. AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON FORD EXPEDITION INTERIOR DOOR LATCHES, SO I'M PRETTY CERTAIN MINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PARTY OF THIS! WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. SLOWED VEHICLE TO A SAFE SPEED AND RPM'S JUMPED TO 3000. PUT VEHICLE IN PARK AND THE RPM'S REMAINED AT 3000 AND THE ENGINE RACED LOUDLY. TOOK VIDEO OF FOOT PEDAL, TACHOMETER AND UNDER HOOD TO RECORD INCIDENT. THIS SELF ACCELERATION HAPPENED IN MARCH AT 99,000 MILES AND WIFE WAS NEARLY KILLED (ODI #10450449). THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AFTER VEHICLE IS RE-STARTED VEHICLE APPEARS TO RUN FINE. *TR
I HAVE CALLED FORD ABOUT THE PAINT PEELING ON THE BACK HATCH AND FRONT HOOD. THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE A RECALL OR PROBLEMS WITH THE PAINT. I HAVE TOLD THEM THAT MANY FORD EXPEDITION OWNERS HAVE STOPPED ME ON THE ROAD AND THAT FORD HAD REPAINTED THEIR VEHICLE FOR NOTHING. ANY GIVEN DAY YOU CAN DRIVE BY ONE OF THESE VEHICLES AND YOU WILL SEE THE EXACT LOCATIONS ARE PEELING PAINT. I WOULD ASK FOR YOU TO CHECK WHY SOME ARE COVERED AND OTHERS ARE NOT. THE TAILGATE ON MY 2008 FORD EXPEDITION EL IS BUBBLING AND CRACKING WHERE THE LIFT GATE IS. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A MAJOR DEFECT IN THE WAY THIS MODEL VEHICLE WAS BUILT. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS '08 EL'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IT LOOKS AS IF UNDERNEATH THE PAINT HAS SEVER RUSTING. THIS IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING THAT FORD NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EXPEDITION EQUIPPED WITH HANKOOK, TIRE LINE DYNAPRO A/S TIRE SIZE P265/70/R18. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING HIS TIRES ROTATED THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE HAD A SEEM ON THE INNER WALL OF THE TIRE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT THE ORIGINAL ONES ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
PAINT STARTED BUBBLING ON TAILGATE AT ABOUT 80,000 MILES. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION OF THE TAILGATE AND ISSUE WAS FORWARDED TO FORD MOTOR CO FOR APPROVAL UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. APPROVAL WAS DENIED AS THE BODY PANEL WAS NOT YET VISIBLE UNDER PAINT (AS IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME). AT 95,000 MILES (VEHICLE STILL COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY) PAINT HAD FLAKED OFF AND THERE WAS VISIBLE CORROSION OF THE ALUMINUM TAILGATE. PAINT HAS ALSO STARTED FLAKING OFF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TAILGATE, UNDER THE LOWER LIP, EXPOSING THE BODY PANEL BENEATH. EVEN WITH THE EXPOSED BODY PANELS AND CORROSION AND OXIDATION OF THE ALUMINUM TAILGATE COVERAGE WAS STILL DENIED. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS ISSUES WITH THE WORKMANSHIP OR PROCESS USED TO APPLY PAINT TO ALUMINUM BODY PANELS AS THE PAINT ON THE REST OF THE VEHICLE IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. *TR
THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT OCCURS AND WAS FIRST NOTICED A COUPLE YEARS AGO. FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE PEDDLE GOES SOFT AND PULSATES, AS IF THE ABS IS ACTIVATED. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND JUST BACKING UP, TO JUST AFTER LEAVING AND MAKING THE FIRST BRAKE APPLICATION, AND AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OR MINUTES OF DRIVING. DURING THIS TIME IT APPEARS THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP NORMALLY. PUMPING OF THE BRAKE PEDAL OR MOMENTARILY HITTING THE BRAKE HARD CLEARED THE PROBLEM. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF A GENTLE BRAKE IS APPLIED OR IF YOU ARE SLOWING FOR A TURN OR BRAKING FOR A RED LIGHT OR A STOP. THIS OCCURS SOMETIMES SEVERAL DAYS IN A ROW OR NEARLY SO. BUT MOST OFTEN IT IS ISOLATED AND THEN DOES NOT OCCUR FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS TO BE RECURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. THIS HAS IN OCCURRED IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER CONDITIONS FROM DRY TO WET. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT VARYING SPEEDS WHETHER IN THE DRIVEWAY, IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA OR ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EXPEDITION EL. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 20 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. THE STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED DURING THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 54,000. UPDATED 07/02/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY A LOCAL FORD DEALER ON JUNE 25TH. THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR WHICH GENERATED THE STEEL WHEEL POSITION DATA INPUT FOR THE ROLL STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS FAULTY . IT APPEARED, THE ROLL STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED AND DISABLED THE BRAKES. UPDATED 07/05/12
BODY CORROSION OF THE ALUMINUM HOOD AND TAILGATE CAUSING PAINT TO BUBBLE AND PEEL OFF.
WE PURCHASED THIS 2008 EXPEDITION LAST FALL WITH THE INTENSION OF TOWING A TRAILER ACROSS COUNTRY BECAUSE THEY CAME WITH HIGH REVIEWS AND COMFORT. WE FIRST NOTICED THE DRIFTING WHEN WE PICKED UP THE TRAILER. THE TRAILER FULLY LOADED IS ABOUT 6,200 POUNDS. WE HAVE A STABILIZER HITCH THAT WE USED TO TOW WITH. WE TOOK THE SUV INTO A DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. A MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT THEY CHECK THE CAMBER'S. THE DEALER SAID ALL WAS FINE. WE TOOK IT ON A 7,000 MILE TRIP TOWING THE TRAILER AND IMMEDIATELY DISCOVERED THAT THE TOWING ABILITY WAS DANGEROUS. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. IN ALL CASES, NO WIND OR WITH EVER THE SLIGHTEST WIND, THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIFT FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND THE TRAILER WOULD WOBBLE BACK AND FORTH MAKING IT EXHAUSTING TO STEER. WITH HIGH GUSTS IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER EVEN AT 45 MPH, IT WOULD DRIFT FROM SIDE TO SIDE MAKING IT EXTREMELY HARD TO CONTROL, AND THE TRAILER FISH-TAILING BEHIND US. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. WE COULD NOT GO OVER 55-60 MPH ON A WIND FREE DAY AND FEEL ANYWHERE SAFE. WE TOOK IT INTO THE SAME DEALER WHEN WE GOT BACK HOME AND THEY SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG. WE TOOK IT INTO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY ALSO TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND SAID THEY COULD NOT SEE ANY PROBLEMS. THERE IS SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG WITH THIS SUSPENSION AND STEERING SYSTEM AND THE DEALERS CANNOT PUT A FINGER ON IT. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A TENDENCY TO CAUSE THE SUV TO DRIFT WHILE DRIVING EVEN WITHOUT THE TRAILER. IT FEELS LOOSE. IT ALSO AT TIMES, HAS A KNOCK IN IT LIKE SOMETHING IS EITHER SNAPPING BACK IN OR SNAPPING OUT OF POSITION. WE ARE AT A LOSS AND DON'T KNOW WHERE TO TURN FOR HELP. WE LOVE THIS SUV OTHER THAN THESE DRIVING PROBLEMS THAT ARE DANGEROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND PARKED ON AN INCLINE WHEN IT ROLLED BACKWARD AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE.
