The 2019 Expedition 10 Speed Transmission went into neutral during acceleration from third gear, skipped 4th and finally reengaged in 5th with a huge jolt. This happened a second time after leaving the next stop sign. During the neutral period ( approx. 3 or 4 seconds) engine RPM's increased dramatically with loss of forward motion and speed. My reaction was to remove my foot from the gas pedal before the engine red-lined. This issue could have caused vehicles behind to rear end our 2019 Ford Expedition. The transmission was at full temperature as the expedition had been driven for approx. 30 minutes prior to the issues. We then parked the expedition for about an hour and then started the drive home and the neutral issue occurred once again. The transmission hard shifting issues were first noticed in March/April 2022 had been reprogramed in June, 2022 which didn't resolve the problem. It was then serviced late July 2022 by rebuilding a control module(?). We were told to drive the vehicle for a couple of weeks while the transmission learned how we drive and everything would return to normal. Currently have returned the Expedition to the dealer as this is a serious safety issue. Hard shifting or even jumping a gear with a jolt isn't going be a danger, but losing power and control of the Expedition could have caused an accident and possible injury to us and others.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated when she started the vehicle, she would hear rattling sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated she had the Customer Satisfaction Program: 21B10-S2 service performed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was similar to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 – Cam Phaser Replacement but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not serviced in a timely manner, therefore the vehicle had to be repaired out-of-pocket. The failure mileage was 71,000. The consumer was never made aware of any recalls, consumer went to dealer for other parts but was informed to make an appointment for repairs. Ford was contacted several times but unwilling to resolve the issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal rattling sound detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
With approximately 42,600 miles on 2019 Expedition, two Ford Service Centers diagnosed the vehicle control issue as suspension related. Specifically, loss of vehicle control due to shocks. Upon inspection by Ford, shocks were found to be leaking and not providing adequate suspension. Two separate Ford Service Centers advised replacement of all four shocks. Wife had been complaining about this for a month or more (June/July 2022). I didn’t believe her until weeks later I drove her car and two Ford Service Centers conforming all shocks needed replacement. I just could not believe at 42,000 miles all shocks needed replacement nor could Ford Service Center. Nor could I believe the severity of control. I experienced loss of control similar to a bucking horse with my head hitting the interior roof of the Expedition. My hands, both, were suddenly off the steering wheel due to up and forward bucking. I was able to slow the Expedition down by braking and regaining the steering wheel. I was luckily. Speed was below 45 mph. No warning lights or voice occurred. This occurred in August 2022.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact took the vehicle for an oil changed was informed that the high-pressure fuel pump had caused the fuel and oil to mix. The failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V392000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case regarding the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the engine emitted abnormal loud rattling sounds. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle would not shift from first gear to the other gears automatically. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the Transmission Control Module (TCM) needed to be reprogrammed; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The contact referenced Ford Customer Satisfaction Program Numbers: 21B10 21N03 and 21N08. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
Transmission failure 4 occurrences after dealer repair under warranty. The transmission issues are very well documented and dealer has returned vehicle to parent with kids in vehicle..within 20 miles vehicle stooped on I-40 traffic endangering lives 3rd failure. Returned vehicle to dealer and when told vehicle was ready it made 15 miles prior to overheating and ceasing to accelerate out of traffic endangering lives. These are the last 2 times vehicle was returned. 2 prior when we were told the vehicle was ok and loss of acceleration, grinding, jerking were normal. Vehicle currently at dealer. Communication with Ford with little assistance. Prior to these failures were cam phasers with 4 similar failures and almost burned my garage down. This vehicle and many others are not safe and should be addressed.
The Sync 3 System (APIM module) is faulty. Causing phone to connect/disconnect constantly, radio controls are delayed for 30 sec pauses or greater, changing from radio to climate will superimpose both categories on top of one another. Navigation sometimes just loads and loads and never comes on. The steering wheel controls create an even longer delay. I went to my local Ford dealer and had a master reset done which did not change the issues and was told that one or both of the modules is not working right "Malfunctioning " Latest updates to both the Sync and Navigation were preformed after the factory reset with no improvement to the system. With new state laws requiring hands free phone usage having the phone connect/disconnect constantly poses a very large safety problem. Also not being able to rely on the system to preform basic functions in a reasonable period of time causes your eyes to leave the road unnecessarily while driving.
The first incident I was travelling on the highway at approx 60-70 mph and attempting to overtake a slower car by switching lanes. As I changed lanes and hit the gas, my Expedition became stuck between gears and lost power until I let off the accelerator and the rpm's came down. This happened on several occasions with similar circumstances. The other times it's been stuck between gears are typically when I am turning left. The loss of power and basically being in neutral while on the highway or turning left is a specific safety hazard that needs prompt attention. I am dropping it off at the dealership tomorrow and I'm sure they will be "unable to recreate the problem" and I'll have to wait until the recall for it to be fixed.
This vehicle has only 10300 miles and never driven off road and the struts have failed. An independent garage confirmed the drivers side front strut is leaking and both rear. My Ford dealer stated they would replace the front and one rear under warranty but the second rear strut is leaking within Ford's "tolerances". This is just Ford's way of avoiding a warranty claim and hoping the bad leaking doesn't start until after the customer's warranty expires so they can reap thousands of dollars in repair revenue. I was also told by the Ford dealership that the FoMoCo replacement struts often arrive at the dealership leaking and they would not call me in for an appointment to replace until they have confirmed they received replacement struts that are not defective. My research shows this is a common problem with this vehicle and the NHTSA should investigate and force a recall since failed struts can cause a serious accident.
My family received a notice of Customer Satisfaction Program 21N08 – PCM Reprogram Due to Engine Shudder – 2017-2020 Ford F-150, 2018-2020 Expedition, & 2018-2020 Lincoln Navigator. We immediate began trying to locate an authorized repair facility. It took several months to get an appointment. During this time, our vehicle shuddered, stopped, and even turned off completely while driving. The problem continued to increase in intensity. When we were able to get the vehicle into a Ford dealership, they suggested that we contact Ford for the repairs that we needed. A private repair facility told us that now, because the shudder issue was not resolved right away, they discovered VCT phasers, VCT solenoids, timing chains and tensioners - failed setting code P0021 and causing engine to run rough. There was a loud rattle on startup which is related. P0018 stored in history. We have received a $4,000 repair estimate. I contacted Ford Customer service. They suggested I bring it into Ford Dealership. I explained that it had taken months to get in the first time. Customer service refused to provide me with additional authorized Ford repair (non dealers) in my location. Customer service refused to provide me with information on the error codes above. Customer service refused to provide me with more information concerning the PCMC reprogram and the known problems related to failing to obtain the reprograming. Customer service was not able to help me at all. I believe that the “PCM reprogram due to engine sudder” should be investigated as a potential formal recall program. Ford should repair of known issues a priority for their customers, and should also repair issues caused by failing to allow their customers to receive a timely remedy of this problem. I would also like more information on known issues with the PCM reprogram and engine shudder. I would like to view the quarterly reports.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that on several occasions, the power train and check engine warning lights illuminated but then disappeared. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and idled until the RPM became normal. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a leak in the turbo hose. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred a week later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
Ford has a recall for 2019 Expeditions. This recall replaces the Cam Phaser, which if this fails, the vehicles engine will not start. This leaves the occupants of this vehicle stranded. Our 2019 Expedition was experiencing these issues and ford acted on the recall, replacing the cam phaser at 58,000 miles. This repair/ replacement would cost the owner well over $2000.00 of out of pocket expense. Our vehicle is currently experiencing the exact same issue at 113,000 miles and Ford will not honor the recall a second time. The math doesn't lie. The life of this cam phaser is lasting under 60,000 miles. If this is a know defect by Ford Motor Co., why are they not being held accountable to fix the underlying issue, or at a minimum continue to repair the known issue?
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving into the driveway and shifting into park, the shift indicator message stated that the vehicle was not in park; however, the contact was still able to turn off the vehicle. On another occasion, while driving 15 MPH and entering the highway, the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The warning light disappeared, and the vehicle operated as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer did not provide any further assistance. The failure mileage was 92,000.
The vehicle only has 38K miles on it and all 4 struts have failed. This is apparently a very common problem for Ford. This creates control issues and an unsafe ride. I had the vehicle in for a different recall and the Ford dealership confirmed all 4 are leaking and need to be replaced, but Ford will not cover them.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle made abnormal rattling sounds. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
My expedition since I bought it completely turns off on me on roads and highways and throws up a wrench symbol and check engine light. Everytime I bring it in to the dealer they keep clearing codes and never fixing anything even tho I have extended warranty. They have had my car for 5-6 months maybe longer but the last time they had it for over a month said everything is fine for our roadtrip. Well the car turned off on me and died in the middle of the Utah Highway... had to be towed. was told it has 70 plus alerts
Expedition shifts terribly. Gets stuck in 4th gear and jerks very badly. Car has shut off multiple times while driving. Expedition will get stuck in the middle of traffic lights due to it not being able to shift up gears. Gets stuck in 4th gear every time it stops so then have to put car in park and turn off for it to be able to drive. The 10 speed transmission needs a recall asap before there is a death if there isn’t some already.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the extended warranty would not cover the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
The ecoboost 3.5 engine has a common issue with the cam phasers. My vehicle has had oil changes done, every 9,000 miles and now needs the cam phasers to be replaces. It has 83,000 miles. I believe this is a known defect that Ford is trying to remedy with customer satisfaction campaigns, rather than a recall. Had the 21b10 tsb performed and which is a requirement and the car shudders and the transmission shifts poorly. Also, the driver's side seat best will not retract fully.
- cam phaser rattle, yes. TSB-23-2143 -possible engine auto start failure while stopped at stoplight, or failure while driving -yes, dealer diagnosed multiple times -yes, dealer -no

Local Ford dealer informed consumer this was a recall and they could fix it. Two week later, consumer got the recall in the mail. But by this time, consumer was well over the 70,000 mile marker, so it was going to cost her a prorated price to get it fixed. I was almost at the 80,000 mile marker by the time it was fixed.
THE REAR LIFT GATE RANDOMLY OPENS ON THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP HAS SAID IT IS A DEFECTIVE WIRING HARNESS. THE LIFT GATE CLOSE WITH PEOPLE STANDING AT THE REAR BUMPER LOADING ITEMS IN THE BACK AND WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT TO CONTINUE CLOSING OPERATIONS. IT DOES THE SAME WITH OPENING. EVENT OCCURS WHEN VEHICLE IS WARMED UP - TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMP > 205 AND MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR GOING UPHILL OR ON A SLIGHT INCLINE ON HIGHWAY WITH A SPEED ABOVE 55 MPH. WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY OR AGGRESSIVELY, THE 10 SPEED TRANSMISSION FAILS. I PUSH DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL WHILE IN THE 10 GEAR. IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS STUCK IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE REV'S TO THE RED LINE IF I LEAVE MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE LOOSES SPEED AND EVENTUALLY FINDS A GEAR BETWEEN 2 AND 6 AND TRANSMISSION RE-ENGAGES. THE VEHICLE WILL REV TO THE RED LINE BEFORE FINDING A GEAR. THIS HAS CREATED MULTIPLE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS IN WHICH A VEHICULAR ACCIDENT ALMOST OCCURRED DUE TO THE IMMEDIATE LOSS OF SPEED IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SITUATIONS. THE VEHICLE WENT FROM 83 MPH TO 55 IN SECONDS BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION RE-ENGAGES. I HAVE TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THEY CAN NOT RECREATE THE ISSUE IN ORDER TO FIX DESPITE SUBMITTING NUMEROUS VIDEOS OF THE SEPARATE TIMES IN WHICH THE EVENT OCCURS. VIDEOS ON 2/3/2021, 2/11/2021, 4/1/2021
On March 22, 2021, check engine light. Took vehicle to Ford dealer. Technician said cam phaser needed to be change. At around 72000 miles. Google search to find out, that is a common problem in the 3.5 eco boost engines. Vehicle was purchased certified used from Elder Ford Tampa, FL with about 33000 miles March 2020. VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN PARK, SHUT OFF, AND EXITED. VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A HILL. SEVERAL MINUTES LATER VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING DOWN A HILL; NARROWLY MISSING A YOUNG GIRL. VEHICLE CAME TO REST ON ITS OWN WITHOUT SUSTAINING DAMAGE. VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MOVE WHILE IN PARK AND SHUT OFF.
•Vechicle is a lemon car by definition and needs to be replaced due to safety issues and the amount of calls in the short duration I have had it in my position •My family and I have been leveraging other family vechicle along side putting the car dormant as much as we can to avoid further mechanical issues which is not acceptable •The request to ask for 4 to 6 weeks on a car repair without loaner is unacceptable as the loan payments are still due by me to the lender and are unable to utilize the car in any capacity •The issue has been open for about 10 months since reporting with NO resolution - unacceptable •Dealership purposely delayed and provided incorrect information and allowed the warranty period to expire as it would provide revenue of service to the business (recalls are free) Please see the attachment for a detailed timeline and supporting documents

AT APPROXIMATELY 13K MILES BEGAN EXPERIENCING A STUTTERING OR UNSTEADY ACCELERATION THROUGH 3RD, 4TH, AND 5TH GEARS. DEALER PERFORMED A FACTORY RESET ON VEHICLE CPU AND ADVISED 2K MILES OF LEARNING WERE REQUIRED. NOW AT 19K MILES, UNSTEADY ACCELERATION THROUGH SAME GEARS IS ACCOMPANIED BY A VIBRATION AND GRUMBLING NOISE. THIS NOISE HAS BECOME STEADILY MORE PRONOUNCED AND THE UNSTEADY ACCELERATION IS WORSE.
WHILE TRAVELING WITH FAMILY APPROXIMATELY 80 MILES FROM OUR HOME VEHICLE LOST ENGINE POWER AND DROPPED FROM 75 TO ABOUT 55, EXPEDITION THEN STARTED TO HAVE TROUBLE SHIFTING AND COULD NOT PASS 60 MPH. WE WERE TRAVELING UPHILL ON FREEWAY AND HAD DRIVE MODE IN ECO ONCE WE STARTED HAVING ISSUES WRENCH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE DISPLAY NOTIFIED ME THAT DRIVE MODE UNAVAILABLE. ONCE WE PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY TRANSMISSION HAD TROUBLE SWITCHING FROM 3RD TO ABOUT 5TH, I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT GEARS BY RELEASING GAS PEDAL AND PRESSING GAS PEDAL AGAIN. WAS ABLE TO GET SUV BACK HOME FOLLOWING DAY ALL LIGHTS WERE CLEAR BUT STILL TOOK IT INTO DEALERSHIP, THE DEALERSHIP IS STILL TROUBLE SHOOTING ISSUE BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE THE SECOND SUV TO DO HAVE THIS KIND OF PROBLEM.
FORD IS AWARE OF A DESIGN DEFECT THAT CAUSES THE VCT SYSTEM TO WEAR OUT WITHIN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME IN BRAND NEW EXPEDITIONS. WHEN THE VCT SYSTEM WEARS OUT, THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY TRANSITIONS INTO "LIMP MODE" , WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO IMMEDIATELY (UNSAFELY) DECELERATE TO A SPEED OF 15MPH (OR LESS ON HILLS), CREATING DANGEROUS SITUATIONS, PARTICULARLY ON HIGHWAYS AND WHEN TOWING. WE PURCHASED OUR EXPEDITION IN MARCH 2019, BRAND NEW. WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH THE HEAVY DUTY TOW PACKAGE, WHICH PROVIDES TOWING UP TO 9,300LBS. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A LOUD RATTLE AT START UP, LASTING A FEW SECONDS. WE DILIGENTLY SERVICED THE VEHICLE ONLY AT FORD DEALERSHIPS, WHO ROUTINELY SAID THE RATTLE WAS "FINE" OR "WITHIN SPEC." ON 9/1/2020, WHILE TOWING OUR AIRSTREAM TRAILER (~7,000 LBS) ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 86 THROUGH WINDSOR, NY, THE VEHICLE THREW ON THE "WRENCH LIGHT" AND RAPIDLY DECELERATED FROM 55MPH TO 10MPH. WE WERE AT THE BOTTOM OF A LONG INCLINE, IN MODERATELY HEAVY TRAFFIC (65MPH). THERE WAS AN INSUFFICIENT SHOULDER TO STOP WITH OUR TRAILER, SO WE VERY SLOWLY CREPT FOR MILES TO THE NEAREST EXIT. THE CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIPS REFUSED TO LOOK AT IT. IT WAS EVENTUALLY TOWED TO ONEONTA FORD. DESPITE KNOWING OF TSB 20-2315 (AND ITS PREDECESSORS), FORD CLAIMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS "FINE" AND LIKELY JUST SUFFERED A BAD OIL CHANGE. AFTER SPENDING 12 DAYS WITH OUR VEHICLE, THEY RETURNED IT, PERFORMING ONLY AN OIL CHANGE. THE RATTLE REMAINED AND FORD CLAIMED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. ON 10/9/2020, THE VERY NEXT TIME WE ATTEMPTED TO TOW, ON COUNTY HIGHWAY 2, THE VEHICLE AGAIN, ABRUPTLY WENT FROM 55 TO10MPH ON A LONG, SLOW INCLINE IN MODERATE TRAFFIC. WE TURNED AROUND (WITH THE TRAILER) ON A 2 LANE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO FORD, WHO RELUCTANTLY (AFTER WEEKS) REPLACED THE VCT SYSTEM PER TSB 20-2315.
