WHILE CROSSING AN INTERSECTION (EASTBOUND) IN MY FORD EXPLORER ON A DRY, FLAT STRAIGHT PAVED ROAD (I WAS STARTING FROM A STOP SIGN, WHEREAS THE STREET I WAS CROSSING HAS NO STOP SIGN FOR THE NORTH AND SOUTHBOUND INTERSECTING ROAD) ... WITH MY FOOT ON THE GAS AT A VERY SLOW SPEED (UNDER 5 MPH), THE VEHICLES BRAKES ENGAGED ON THEIR OWN AFTER I WAS PARTIALLY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, BRINGING MY VEHICLE TO A STOP. MY FOOT WAS SOLELY ON THE GAS PEDAL, AND I WAS NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES. FOUR DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS THEN ILLUMINATED; INCLUDING THE (1) STABILITY CONTROL, (2) THE 4X4, (3) THE ABS AND (4) THE WRENCH. I APPLIED THE GAS PEDAL FURTHER TO TRY TO GET OUT OF THE INTERSECTION, BUT THE BRAKES DID NOT RELEASE. THEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND THE BRAKE RELEASED AND THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME OFF. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES! I WAS THEN ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE BUSY INTERSECTION WITH JUST THE IDLE MOVING THE VEHICLE FORWARD. ONCE OUT OF THE INTERSECTION I AGAIN PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL, AND THE BRAKE ENGAGED AGAIN, STOPPING THE VEHICLE. AFTER HAPPENING ABOUT ANOTHER FEW TIMES I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THERE I LEFT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN BROUGHT TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, WHO PUT THE VEHICLE ON A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC DEVICE, AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE SENSOR IN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WAS SENSING A PROBLEM AND AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGING THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE. I FEEL FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT BROAD-SIDED BY ANY ONCOMING VEHICLES WHEN THE FAULTY BRAKE SYSTEM BROUGHT MY TRUCK TO A STOP IN THE ROAD INTERSECTION. BRAKE PROBLEM ALSO HAPPENED THE NIGHT BEFORE, BUT IN THAT CASE I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD AT ABOUT 30 MPH AND COASTING AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT WANT TO DEPRESS AND THEN WITHIN A FEW SECONDS ALL THE SAME 4 WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. THE BRAKE PEDAL MADE A SOUND SIMILAR TO WHEN ABS DEPLOYS, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL RESISTED GOING DOWN; IN FACT THE BRAKE PEDAL BARELY MOVED. *TR
2007 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC (2WD) AT COMPLETE STOP. REAR ENDED BY A FORD FOCUS AT ABOUT 40MPH. IMPACT CAUSED THE SPORT TRAC SEATS TO RECLINE FROM AN UPRIGHT POSITION TO 45 DEGREES BACKWARDS/RECLINING), WENT INTO "PARK" AND ENGINE "SHUT OFF" AUTOMATICALLY! *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 40000 MILES I NOTICE A LEAK IN THE RADIATOR ON THE LOWER LEFT SIDE. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD SEEN A NUMBER OF THESE AND THAT IT WAS LEAKING ON A SEAM AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $500. I HAD THEM ORDER A REPLACEMENT AND IT IS DUE TO BE REPLACED 03/29/2010. IF THIS IS KNOWN TO HAPPEN WHY IS THERE NO PARTLY TO FULL COVERAGE FOR A DEFECTIVE ITEM?
COMPUTER CONTROL FOR THE AUTOMATIC TRANS. MALFUNCTIONS CAUSING UNEVEN SHIFTS AND ENGINE REVS TO THE REV LIMITER ON THE HIGHWAY. LASTS A COUPLE OF DAYS UNTIL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND THEN IT SHIFTS NORMALLY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THE TRANS. SHIFTS NORMALLY FOR ABOUT A WEEK UNTIL THE CYCLE STARTS AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. HAPPENED WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC AND THE TRANS DISENGAGED CAUSING THE ENGINE TO HIT THE REV LIMITER AND ALMOST GOT HIT FROM BEHIND. HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN ON AND OFF SINCE THE TRUCK WAS NEW BUT IT'S BECOMING MORE COMMON NOW. *TR
TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION. THE GEAR SELECTOR WOULD NOT SHIFT FORM THE PARK POSITION. THERE WERE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE THE GEAR SELECTOR FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON ONE SEPARATE OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMAL. THE VEHICLE HAD PRIOR RECALL REMEDY REPAIR INVOLVING A POTENTIAL PROBLEM THAT WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO LOCK IN THE PARK POSITION. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A FEW WEEKS AFTER THE RECALL SERVICE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 19,259.
THE VEHICLE LEAKING FLUID FROM THE RADIATOR. CAUSING ENGINE TO RUN HOT. ALSO THE LUMBAR IN THE DRIVERS SEAT EXPLODES PUSHING YOU IN TO THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 SPORT TRAC W/ 55K THAT RECENTLY DEVELOPED A NOISE FROM THE FRONT ENGINE THAT WAS NOTICEABLE AT 45MPH OR HIGHER. AN INSPECTION BY A FORD DEALERSHIP HAS IDENTIFIED THE DRIVER'S SIDE.*TR
FORD SPORT TRAC EXPLORER WAS T BONED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK SPUN AND ROLLED HARD ONTO THE DRIVERS SIDE. NO PASSENGERS WERE IN THE TRUCK AT THE TIME AND WOULD EXPLAIN WHY THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, DUE TO THE SUBSEQUENT ROLL ONTO THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE TO THE DRIVERS SIDE AS A RESULT OF THE ROLLOVER I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE TRUCK IS A WRITE-OFF PER MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS ABOUT MY CONCERNS AND SEEKING REASSURANCE THAT THIS WAS NOT A ISOLATED PROBLEM OR INDEED AN ISSUE THAT WOULD GO UNNOTICED. WHILE THE CUSTOMER RELATIONS PERSON WAS SYMPATHETIC SHE COULD OFFER NO MORE HELP OTHER THAN TO ADVISE ME TO CONTACT MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. I SPOKE WITH FORD DEALER, SERVICE MANAGER AND HE SAID HE WAS NOT AWARE OF PROBLEMS CONCERNING THE AIRBAGS. THE TRUCK IS CURRENTLY IN THE POSSESSION OF MY ALLSTATE INSURANCE COMPANY IN A YARD SOMEWHERE IN MEMPHIS TN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS WATER COMING THROUGH THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THE WATER WAS COMING IN FROM THE WINDOWS AND THAT THE CONTACT SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A SPECIALIST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A WINDOW SPECIALIST WHO INSPECTED THE WINDOWS AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE WATER WAS COMING FROM THE SEAMS IN THE ROOF, THE WELL OF THE ROOF OR THE LUGGAGE RACK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. A REPRESENTATIVE ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE AND OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
ON 12/27/2008 WENT ACROSS RR TRACKS AT 25 MPH HAD A FRT TIRE BLOWOUT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION DISCOVERED TIRE SPLITTING APART ON THE INSIDE WALL OF ALL FOUR TIRES NEAR THE RIM. OUT OF SITE OF A VISUAL INSPECTION UNLESS TIRE IS OFF. 23,000 MILES ON 07 FORD SPT TRACK. WAY TOO SOON TO HAVE TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES. ALSO BELIEVE THIS IS A TIRE DEFECT AND COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SERIOUS IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. TOOK TIRES TO FORD DEALER AND GOODYEAR NO HELP OR VERY MUCH CONCERN. IM CONCERNED THAT THERE ARE OTHER DRIVERS OUT THERE WITH THESE TIRES AND THEY SHOULD BE NOTIFIED OF THE SPLITS THAT ARE OCCURRING AND HAVE THEIR TIRES INSPECTED ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR WORSE. IF OTHER DRIVERS TIRES ARE SPLITTING LIKE MIND DID THEN THE TIRES SHOULD BE REPLACED ASAP. AND I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR HAVING TO PURCHASE 4 BRAND NEW TIRES SO SOON. VALVE STEM FAILURE. RAPID DEFLATION OF TIRE. 2ND FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE. 1ST FAILURE WAS 09/23/2008 ON A DIFFERENT TIRE - VEHICLE NOT MOVING AT THE TIME. DRIVING ALONG AT HIGHWAY SPEED 50-60 MPH, 30 DEGREES, 8:00 AM EST. LOW PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR COME ON. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES I FEEL TRUCK HANDLING CHANGE. I PULL OVER INTO PARKING LOT. I TOUCH VALVE STEM AND HERE AIR ESCAPE. WITHIN 2 MORE MINUTES TIRE WAS COMPLETELY DEFLATED. *TR
I HAVE HAD MY 2007 SPORTRAC 8 CYL. FOR 1-1/2 YEARS. EVERY MORNING WHEN I START MY VEHICLE, I MUST WAIT A FULL THIRTY SECONDS OR MORE BEFORE I CAN PUT THE CAR IN GEAR. IF I DO IT SOONER, THEN THE ENGINE WILL REV, BUT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE. IF I REV THE ENGINE TO 6,000 RPM IT WILL BUDGE A BIT. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TWICE FOR THIS AND THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. ADDITIONALLY, I AM ONLY GETTING ABOUT 9.5 MPG, AND I FEEL IT MAY BE BECAUSE OF THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE. *TR
ADVANCETRAC RSC SYSTEM ACTIVATED ON DRY ROAD SURFACE FOR NO CAUSE - CAUSING DISABLED TRANSMISSION LINE/NO POWER TO WHEELS & REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND RESULTING IN EMERGENCY PULLOVER IN HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC SITUATION. FORD SERVICE UNABLE TO FIND CAUSE - CAN NOT DUPLICATE. *TR
IN LATE AUGUST, 2008, I WAS INVOLVED IN A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT ALONG INTERSTATE 64 BETWEEN RICHMOND AND CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA DUE TO SUDDEN LOSE OF AIR PRESSURE IN THE LEFT FRONT TIRE OF MY 2007 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC. I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND SAFELY GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT HITTING OTHER VEHICLES OR INJURING ANYONE. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALER IN LOUISA, VA. AFTER BEING ASSURED THAT I COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE SPARE TIRE, I RETURNED IT TO WILLIAMSBURG FORD, THE ORIGINAL DEALER. THE TIRE AND THE AIR PRESSURE SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OF $365.58. ON OCTOBER 20, 2008, THE AIR PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT INDICATED ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH TIRE PRESSURE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO WILLIAMSBURG FORD. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VALVE STEM IN THE LEFT REAR TIRE WAS DAMAGED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $15.00. *TR
2 OEM VALVE STEMS HAVE FAILED DUE TO MATERIAL DEFECT. BOTH FAILED STEMS CRACKED AT THE ON THE STEM ENTERS THE TIRE RIM. THESE FAILURES OCCURRED ON MY 2007 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC. ALL EQUIPMENT IS AS DELIVERED NEW FROM THE FACTORY. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 EXPLORER SPORT TRAC XLT INTO OF SERVER FOR FALL IN THE BRAKES,THE BOB OF ENGINEER STATED WHAT WAS THE MOST COMMON FAULT IN THIS VEHICLE,TODAY HAVE 40 DAYS AND THE PCM IN THE VEHICLE CANT BE REPAIRED BY THE SHOP. BOTH THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (PART NUMBER FP-7L2Z4K138A) FAILED AND CAUSED THE BACK END TO LOCK WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED TWICE. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FOR SAFETY AND NO LONGER FEELS SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,821.
EARLY SPRING OF 08, TIRE VALVE STEM LEAK : REPLACED SEPT 5 OF 08 HAD SPORTRAC VEHICLE IN TO DEALER FOR ( FORD, FAIROAK NAPERVILLE IL. ) MAINTENANCE INCLUDING ROTATION AND BALANCING OF ALL 4 WHEEL SL SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING DEALER LOW TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR CAME ON. I FOUND LEFT REAR VALVE STEM LEAKING STOP AT DISCOUNT TIRE AND WAS INFORMED THAT I HAD 3 VALVES ON VEHICLE THAT WERE BAD "RECALL" ALL 4 FOUR WERE THEN REPLACED AND I WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL. WHAT' WITH FORD ? *TR
DRIVING AT APPROX. 25-30 MPH. APPLIED BRAKES AT LIGHT BUT WHEELS KEEP SPINNING. SHOVE AUTOMATIC GEAR SHIFT TO NEUTRAL, THEN INTO PARK. CUT OFF IGNITION, START UP AGAIN AND THINGS ARE OK. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT I COULD HIT A PEDESTRIAN OR REAR END A CAR, OR WIND-UP IN AN INTERSECTION WHERE CARS ARE MOVING. MY MICHELIN CROSS TERRAIN TIRES WERE COMPLETELY BALD ON THE REAR AFTER ONLY 25K MILES AND WE REPLACED THEM BUT NOW OUR FRONT TIRES ARE BALD AFTER 35K MILES. *TR
FORD SPORTS TRAC 07, 8 CYLINDER. AUTOMATIC, 44000. IT BEGAN AROUND 20000. WHEN ONE COMES TO A STOP, THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE OR TRANSMISSION KICKS IN AND THE VEHICLE JUMPS AND SLAMS INTO GEAR. IT APPEARS TO BE GETTING WORSE THE MORE I DRIVE IT. ALSO, A LOT OF BLIND SPOTS. *TR
INTERMITTENT FAN SPEED FOR HVAC ON MY VEHICLE 2007 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAK. THEN IT WOULD OPERATE NORMALLY FOR AWHILE. THEN HAD A REPAIR DONE AT DEALERSHIP AND REPLACED THE FOLLOWING PART # 6L2Z-19E624-A FROM FORD. *TR
2007 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC. AFTER BEING PARKED FOR A WEEK, I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE AND IT WOULD NOT RESPOND. ALL OTHER ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WORKED PROPERLY. DIAGNOSES BY THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAD FAILED. IF THIS HAD OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING, IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE ENGINE FAILING. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS ON A FULL FREEWAY OR OTHER HEAVY TRAFFIC SITUATION COULD BE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE (NO POWER STEERING) OR STOPPAGE IN A TRAFFIC LANE AND EXPOSURE TO A POSSIBLE COLLISION. THERE IS NO WAY TO TEMPORARILY BYPASSING THE FAILED SYSTEM SO THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE MOVED TO A SAFE LOCATION. *TR
I WAS GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY AFTER TRAVELING APPROX 10 MILES @ 70-80 MPH. AS I SLOWED THE VEHICLE AND MOVED ONTO THE ON RAMP AT APPROX 55 MPH ENCOUNTERED A SLIGHT BUMP DUE TO ROAD SURFACE CHANGE AND MY VEHICLE'S HOOD SUDDENLY RELEASED. LUCKILY THE HOOD LATCH CAUGHT THE HOOD AND PREVENTED IT FROM SLAMMING UP TO THE WINDSHIELD BUT IT WAS A VERY UNSETTLING MOMENT AND I AM AFRAID THAT IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. THERE WAS NO REASON THE HOOD SHOULD HAVE RELEASED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY IF IT HAD HAPPENED AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED WHERE THE LATCH COULD HAVE ALSO FAILED. *TR
TRUCK SOMETIMES STAYS IN 1ST GEAR FOR A LONGER THAN NORMAL PERIOD OF TIME. ALSO HESITATES/JERKS WHEN ACCELERATING IN 1ST GEAR. *TR
2007 SPORT TRAC,V8 WITH 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION, 2-WHEEL DRIVE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE AT TIMES IS SLOW TO RESPOND. THE ENGINE REVS BUT YOU DO NOT MOVE AS FAST AS YOU SHOULD WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. SEVERAL TIMES I'VE MANUALLY DOWNSHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION TO FIRST OR SECOND GEAR TO OBTAIN PROPER ACCELERATION. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT SO YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHEN IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. THE TRANSMISSION HAS THE CHARACTERISTICS OF LOW TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL. THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT DOWNSHIFT TO THE PROPER LOWER GEAR AND THEREFORE TRIES TO ACCELERATE WHILE IN HIGH GEAR WHICH ACCOUNTS FOR THE SLOW ACCELERATION AND HIGH REV. I'VE BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN THREE TIMES TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS FOR THIS PROBLEM AND BOTH STATE THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AGAIN, THIS IS INTERMITTENT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CHECKED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND IT WAS FULL. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW THEY WERE ABLE TO DO THIS SINCE THIS IS A SEALED TRANSMISSION -- YOU CAN'T CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL. I KNOW OF THREE OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND BOTH LOCAL DEALERSHIPS GAVE THE SAME RESPONSE SAYING THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION THEREFORE; THEY CAN NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. IF I KNOW OF THREE PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS PAGE ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION, THEN THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG. BOTTOM-LINE, A PROBLEM EXISTS WITH THE 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND FORD (OR ALT LEAST THE DEALERSHIPS) REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGES IT. *TR
PULLING INTO TRAFFIC TRACTION CONTROL ENGAGES IN DRY CONDITIONS, TAKING ALL ACCELERATION POWER AWAY. TRACTION INDICATOR ON DASH LIGHTS UP, UNABLE TO DISENGAGE WITH TRACTION BUTTON. VEHICLE DOES NOT STALL, HOWEVER THERE IS LITTLE TO NO POWER TO ACCELERATE TO APPROPRIATE DRIVING SPEED. BRAKES ALSO ENGAGE ANTI-LOCK. THERE IS NO WARNING, EXCEPT WHEN YOU COMMIT TO ACCELERATING, BOTH INSTANCES OCCURRED FROM A STOP SIGN, ABOUT 4 MINUTES AFTER STARTING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE.. VEHICLE DRIVES FINE FOR ROUGHLY 4 MINUTES, THEN AT A STOP LIGHT IT STARTS THIS PROBLEM AND CONTINUES FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, OR MINUTES BEFORE GOING AWAY. IN BOTH INSTANCES TRACTION CONTROL WAS NOT NEEDED, BOTH TIMES I WOULD CALL THE TRACTION ON THE ROAD EXCELLENT, MEANING I COULDN'T SPIN THE TIRES IF I TRIED TO.. I WAS NOT ACCELERATING HEAVILY, LIGHT TO MODERATE ACCELERATION FROM A STOP SIGN. WHILE IT WAS ACTING UP I WOULD TRY BOTH, LIGHT, HEAVY AND EVEN TAP THE BRAKES TO TRY AND GET THE CAR OUT OF THINKING THAT THERE IS NO TRACTION. VERY CLOSE TO HAVING A SIDE IMPACT ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DID NOT GIVE ME THE POWER TO CROSS TRAFFIC FROM A STOP. IMAGINE DRIVING ON ICE, EXCEPT THERE IS NO ICE, AND ARE HALF WAY IN AN INTERSECTION TRYING TO LIMP OUT OF THE WAY. BAD FEELING. I'VE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE CROSSING TRAFFIC AT STOP SIGNS. TRANSMISSION MAKES LOUD NOISE WHEN YOU STOP. FEELS LIKE SOMEONE CRASHES INTO VEHICLE. ACTION NOT SAFE FOR RUSH-HOUR FREEWAY DRIVING OR ANY DRIVING WHEN YOU MUST DRIVE SLOW. SUCH, AS IN ICE AND SNOW. DEALER TRIED TO FIX, BUT STATED WAS FACTORY DEFECT AND THAN FORD WAS WORKING ON THE PROBLEM WITH A MODIFICATION. PROBLEM NO EVIDENT WHEN VEHICLE IS HOT RODDED. BUT SAFE FOR AVERAGE DRIVERS. INITIAL COMPLAINT WAS GAS MILEAGE. 12 MPG IN TOWN AND 12 MPG ON THE HIGHWAY. DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEM. MILEAGE CONTINUED TO DETERIORATE, DOWN TO 7 IN TOWN AND 12 ON HIGHWAY. THIS IS A V6 2 WHEEL DRIVE AUTO. THEN THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK, THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND I TOOK THE CAR IN AGAIN AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE GAS MILEAGE AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. DEALER CALLED AND SAID I HAD 2 BAD SENSORS ON THE CAR AND COULD GET IT THE NEXT DAY. CUSTOMER SERVICE CALLED 2 DAYS LATER AND TOLD MY WIFE THAT THEY HAD " FRIED" THE CPU IN THE CAR. IT'S BEEN ALMOST 10 DAYS IN THE SHOP AND NO REPAIRS. DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE TO HAVE A NEW COMPUTER MADE FOR THE CAR AND THAT ALL CPU ARE " SPECIAL" , NOT SOMETHING THEY CAN GET EVERYDAY. 2007 SPORTTRAC, STARTED DOWNSHIFTING VERY ROUGH WHEN COMING TO A STOP, TOOK TO FREEPORT, IL DEALER WHO ADJUSTED PARTS OF THE TRANSMISSION, THIS MADE THE DOWNSHIFTING MUCH BETTER FOR A FEW MONTHS, IT IS BACK NOW AND WORSE THAN EVER. YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR FOOT HARD ON THE BRAKE AND DON'T STOP VERY CLOSE TO ANY VEHICLE OR PROPERTY IN FRONT OF YOU. I LEARNED HARD WAY LAST WEEK AND HIT A CEMENT POST WITH THE FRONT BUMPER, I HAD ACTUALLY STOPPED MAYBE 6 INCHES FROM THE POST BUT THE SURGE AFTER STOPPED PROPELLED ME MAYBE 7-8", IT IS A VERY VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND SAID THE SURGE WHEN DOWNSHIFING WAS SOMEWHAT SLIGHTLY BACK AGAIN, BUT MY MAIN CONCERN THEN WAS THAT THE CAR SEEMED LIKE IT WAS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE CONTINUALLY, THIS WAS DETERMINED DUE TO THE SOUND AND WHINING OF GEARS, I WAS NOT IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE BUT IT SOUNDED LIKE IT, I BOUGHT NEW TIRES THINKING AS THE DEALER SERVICE PERSON SAID, IT MIGHT BE THE TIRES, IT WASN'T. NO ACCIDENT YET BUT....BRAKES ON MY VEHICLE ARE VERY SOFT. BRAKE PEDAL WHEN APPLIED GOES BELOW THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDAL ARE VERY CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. UNLESS OPERATOR IS VERY CAREFUL TO MOVE RIGHT FOOT COMPLETELY OVER TO BRAKE PEDAL THE PROXIMITY OF THE TWO PEDALS AND THE SOFTNESS OR AMOUNT OF BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL BELOW THE ACCELERATOR, THE OPERATOR PRESSES THE ACCELERATOR AND THE BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME. NO AMOUNT OF PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES WILL STOP THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE HARDER THE BRAKE IS PRESSED THE MORE THE ACCELERATOR IS ACTIVATED. I HAVE PERSONALLY COME CLOSE TO HITTING VEHICLES AHEAD OF ME DUE TO THIS CONDITION. CORRECTIVE ACTION TO RELEASE PEDALS AND RE LOCATE FOOT ON BREAK IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE IN STOP MANY SITUATIONS. I HAVE RETURNED THIS VEHICLE TO A NUMBER OF FACTORY DEALERSHIPS WHO ADVISE BRAKES ARE WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE RPM'S BEGAN TO REV UP AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. TRUCK RAN AND SHIFTED PERFECTLY FOR ABOUT A MONTH. TOOK IT BACK IN AGAIN THIS TIME THE DOWNLOADED A FIX FROM FORD. PROBLEM WENT AWAY AND WAS VERY PLEASED. TOOK THE TRUCK TO CALIFORNIA ON VACATION AND WITHIN 300 MILES IT STARTED UP AGAIN. TRUCK SHIFTS HARD FROM THE START, LUNGES, SOMETIMES IT WON'T SHIFT INTO HIGH GEAR UNLESS YOU BACK OFF OF THE GAS. I HAVE BEEN IN THE SHOP WITH PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR NOW AND I GET THE SAME RESPONSE FORM THE DEALER. FORD HASN'T COME UP WITH A FIX YET. BRAND NEW FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2007 YEAR WITH 2000 MILES ON IT. WAS DRIVING TO WORK AT 6 AM AND HAD TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AT THAT TIME OF DAY OR THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A CRASH. PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING. BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR TOWED TO DEALER LATER THAT MORNING. BRAKES WORKED FINE, NO LIGHT ON. THEY EXAMINED THE COMPUTER RECORDS FROM THE CAR AND IT DID INDICATE A COMPUTER FAILURE. FORD IS REPLACING THAT PART BUT WE ARE VERY CONCERNED IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, AND VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING RECALL-SCALE ISSUE ON THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. *NM

ADDITIONALLY, WHEN EITHER THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER WINDOW WAS OPEN WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A LOUD WIND VIBRATION THAT CIRCULATED THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. IT WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DUPLICATED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE. ALSO, THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT WAS THE WAY THE WINDOWS WERE DESIGNED, AND IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, IT WAS INSTRUCTED NOT TO OPEN THE WINDOWS WHILE DRIVING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED.

THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V181000 (STEERING) THAT COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. BUT THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
