WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO STOP WOULD STEP ON BRAKE PEDAL BUT VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP UNLESS PUT INTO A LOWER GEAR. THEN, VEHICLE WILL STOP SLOWLY. *AK
THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. I DO ALL MY OWN SERVICING AND AS INDICATED THIS IS THE 5 FAILURE. INDICATIONS ARE SPEED CONTROL DOES NOT SUSPEND AND THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE. IN EVERY CASE I HAVE DISASSEMBLED THE DEVICE AND THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS ARE PITTED AND DEFORMED FROM USAGE. ALSO APPEARS TO BE INDICATIONS THAT THE INTERNAL WORKINGS OF THE SWITCH HAS BEEN EVOLVING, I SUSPECT DUE TO USAGE RELATED FAILURE.
VIBRATION AT 60 MPH AND ABOVE. HAVE REPLACED 3 SETS OF TIRES (GOOD YEAR) AND VIBRATION PERSIST. OTHER USED SETS OF TIRES RESOLD AND NO VIBRATION WAS REPORTED BY NEW OWNERS. WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH FORD EXPLORER BY TIRE BALANCING COMPANY. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THEY BELIEVED THE PROBLEM MAY BE IN THE SUSPENSION.*AK

CONSUMER RECEIVED FORD TIRE RECALL AND HAD TIRES INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED FIRESTONE DEALER WHO STATED TIRES WERE PART OF RECALL, CONSUMER FILLED OUT PROPER PAPERWORK AND HAD TIRES REPLACED BY A BRAND OTHER THAN FIRESTONE, NOW CLAIM IS BEING DENIED AND CONSUMER HAS REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FROM FIRESTONE ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, FIRESTONE DESTROYED REPLACED TIRES, FIRESTONE ATX, DOT NUMBERS W2HL AND VDHL, SIZE P235/75R15. *SLC
EXPLORER CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD WE HAD NO IDEA UNTIL WE WERE FLAGGED DOWN. I STOPPED THE CAR AND THE FLAMES WERE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE CAR. THE KIDS AND I JUMPED OUT AND STARTED TO RUN IN FEAR OF IT EXPLODING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME OUT, PUT OUT THE FLAMES AND SAID IT LOOKED LIKE A FAULTY FUEL LINE.
WAS DRIVING 60MPH NORTH BOUN; HAD SHORT ACCELERATION LANE. ANOTHER VEHICLE TRIED TO PASS SEMI -TRAILER & HIT TRUCK. WENT ACROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC & HIT PASSENGER FRONT & SIDES (EXPLORER). VEHICLE ROLLED 3 TIMES. AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. DRIVER HAD SEAT BELTS ON, BUT WAS HOSPITALIZED. SUFFERED INJURIES. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK

CONSUMER CONTROL MIRROR SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE. DEALER SAYS THEY DON'T HAVE A RECALL ON VEHICLE. HOWEVER, CONSUMER REMEMBERS RECEIVING RECALL 97V083OOO/ MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 97S70. WILL CONTACT THE DEALER FOR A COPY. THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WHEN THE RECALL WAS RECEIVED. *AK
THE INSULATION BLANKET UNDER VEHICLE'S HOOD DETERIORATED AND FELL DOWN INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I HAVE BEEN PEALING AWAY THE HANGING DOWN MATERIAL PERIODICALLY, HOWEVER MY CONCERN IS THAT MATERIAL MAY FALL APART, FALLING UPON THE ENGINE AND POSSIBLY CAUSING A FIRE.*AK

CONSUMER BOUGHT FOUR NEW TIRES PRIOR TO FIRST INCIDENT. AT SECOND INCIDENT SIX DAYS LATER, LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED. WHEN FIRESTONE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED LAST AUGUST CONSUMER CHECKED HIS SPARE TIRE THAT WAS LOCATED UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. SPARE TIRE WAS MISSING. STEEL CABLE THAT HELD SPARE TIRE IN PLACE SHOWED SIGNS OF RUST AND CORROSION. IT WAS ALSO FRAYED. CONSUMER THEN TRIED TO GET FORD TO REPLACE SPARE TIRE. BUT, FORD REFUSED.*AK

PE02000, TIRE TREAD SEPARATION: WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH TREAD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE CAME OFF. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTROL VEHICLE. TWO OTHER PASSENGER'S WERE IN THE VEHICLE. NO ONE WAS HURT. TIRE WAS A FIRESTONE, ATX. NOT SURE IF TIRE WAS ORGINAL EQUIPMENT BECAUSE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED. TIRE SIZE, P2357515. OWNER WILL BE CONTACTING FIRESTONE. PLEASE LIST DOT #. *AK
I HAD TIRES INSPECTED PER FIRESTONE RECOMENDATION DUE TO CURRENT KNOW ISSUE. FIRESTONE FACTORY STORE FOUND 2 OF THE 4 TIRES TREAD SEPERATING. THEY OFFERED NO COMPENSATION EXCEPT TO SELL ME NEW TIRES.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
THESE WILDERNESS AT P235/75 TIRES ARE NOT PART OF THE PRESENT FIRESTONE RECALL. THE TIRES HAVE CRACKS THAT RUN AROUND THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TIRE ON BOTH SIDES WHERE THE TREAD MEETS THE BODY OF THE TIRE. A FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER EMPLOYEE INSPECTED THE TIRES ON AUGUST 11, AND I WAS TOLD THAT FIRESTONE WOULD REPLACE THE TIRES, AND I WAS PLACED ON A WATING LIST. ON SEPTEMBER 4, I RETURNED TO THE STORE TO DETERMINE THE STATUS OF MY TIRE REPLACEMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT FIRESTONE WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRES BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE THE "DL" DOT CODE. I ASKED IF THE TIRES WERE SAFE TO DRIVE ON AND WAS TOLD BY THE FIRESTONE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I SHOULD REPLACE THE TIRES IF I COULD AFFORD TO DO SO. I HAVE REPLACED THE TIRES. THE TIRES WERE ON THE VEHICLE FOR 15 MONTHS, HAVE APPROXIMATELY 22,000 MILES OF SERVICE AND HAVE APPROXIMATELY 9/32" OF TREAD REMAINING. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED FREQUENTLY AND MAINTAINED BETWEEN 30 AND 32 PSIG. I FEEL STRONGLY THAT FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES OTHER THAN THOSE WITH DOT CODE "DL" ARE FAULTY AND WOULD LIKE THESE TIRES INSPECTED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF NHTSA SO THAT THE RECALL CAN BE BROADENED TO COVER OTHER FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES BEFORE OTHER ACCIDENTS OCCUR. *AK( DOT NUMBER: 8XHL TIRE SIZE: P235/75 )

THE TIRE (REAR DRIVER'S SIDE) BLEW -- THE TREAD PEELED OFF. AFTER THE TIRE BLEW, AND BECAUSE I WAS GOING SLOW IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. THE SPARE WAS PUT ON.
