VEHICLE IS USED. OWNER HAD PARKED VEHICLE & WENT TO REAR TO LIFT HATCH. THE CYLINDER ATTACHMENT HAD BROKEN OFF FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FRAME AS IT WAS CLOSING. THE LEFT SIDE HAD FAILED TO HOLD & FELL ON THE OWNER. HATCH WAS HEAVY & NEEDED 2 INDIVIDUALS TO LIFT IT. HAD CONTACTED MANUFACTURER WHO WAS UNWILLING TO AUTHORIZE REPAIRS UNDER A RECALL THAT HAS EXPIRED. *AK
DRIVER'S SEAT ANCHORS BROKE, CAUSING THE DRIVER'S SEAT TO ROCK BACK AND FORTH, AWAY FROM THE STEERING WHEEL, ALMOST CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. *AK

YES, WHEN THIS CYLINDER EXPLODED. MY WIFE BECAME STARTLED AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF CAR. I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THESE HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS. THEY NEEDED TO BE REINFORCED.LOOKING AT THE PART THIS WAS A DEFECT, IT JUST PULLED LOOSE. *AK

DOOR HINGES WOULD CAUSE DOORS TO BE UNEVEN. DRIVER'S DOOR FAILS TO CLOSE PROPERLY DUE TO THE HINGES. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC INDICATED HINGES WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*AK CONSUMER ADDED THAT THE DESIGN OF THE DOOR HANDLES MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SHUT DOOR. *TT
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35MPH WHEN CRASHED INTO A GAURDRAIL. MECHANIC REPLACED FENDER/BUMPER/RADIATOR/GRILL/ RADIALAND RADIAL SUPPORT/BALL JOIN, AND INSTALLED LIFT KIT. HOWEVER, VEHICLE STILL VIBRATED, EVEN MORE WHEN DRIVING WITH 4 WHEEL DRIVE. ALSO, WHEN MAKING A TURN STEERING LOCKED UP IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. CONSUMER THEN REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES. VEHICLE STILL VIBRATED. MECHANIC SAID THE RADIUS ARM WAS BENT, AND REPLACED IT. ALSO, REPLACED THE SPRINGS SHOCKS/ ABS SENSORS/ REAR SHIELD AND BEARINGS. *AK

RIGHT SIDE REAR QUARTER WINDOW LEAKED ALSO. BOTH WINDOWS HAD ALL OF THE ATTATCHING NUTS LOOSE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. *AK
THE CONSUMER'S WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE STREET AND ANOTHER CAR CUT IN FRONT OF HER, RESULTING IN COLLISION, ALSO HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF. THE FUEL SAFETY SHUT-OFF SWITCH DIDN'T TURN OFF. *AK
WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND ENGAGING CRUISE CONTROL, THERE IS A PROBLEM DUE TO CRUISE CONTROL SURGING BACK AND FORTH, AND SPEED DOESN'T INCREASE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN REPAIR SHOP FOUR TIMES, AND THE DEALER CAN'T DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE MOVEMENT FREQUENCY OF THE ENGINE ALIGNS WITH THE TIRE ROTATION FREQUENCY CAUSING A VIRBRATION/SHAKE THAT CAUSES THE TRUCK TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO MANAGE. KNOWN PROBLEM WITH EXPLORER, HOWEVER THEY CLASSIFY IT AS A PROBLEM NOT A DEFECT. REQUIRES HORIZONTAL STABLIZERS TO BE ADDED TO THE TRUCK TO ELIMINATE THE VIBATION. FORD WILL NOT COVER AS A DEFECT.
PE00020 ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON FORD EXPLORER 1993. P23575R15. WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH TIRES WERE PROPERLY INFLATTED, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE, TREAD HAD CAME OFF AND HIT CAR. ONLY THING THAT WAS LEFT WAS THE PART OF TIRE THAT HELD AIR. ENTIRE TREAD HAD COME OFF. *AK

THE CONSUMER IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH FRONT END SUSPENSION. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STARTED PULLING TOWARDS THE RIGHT ON ITS OWN, CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL. THE BRACKET THAT HELD THE CONTROL ARM TO THE FRAME BROKE LOOSE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
SEAT BELT BROKE AT TIME OF IMPACT WITH TREE, RESULTING IN SEVERE INJURIES. *AK
LEAVES IN THE BLOWER MOTOR CAUSED SMOKE TO FILL THE CAB OF THE CAR.
MY 93 FORD EXPLORER HAD APPROXIMATELY 3 DIAGNOSTIC TESTS WITH RESULTS THAT SHOW THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE VEHICAL CONSISTENTLY OVER 7 MONTHS HAS BEEN STALLING, DIEING, AND SURGING. IT USUALLY STALLS AT STOP SIGNS OR WHILE WAITING IN A LINES OF CARS. IT DIES AT STOP SIGNS OR WHEN TRYING TO START IT UP. IT SURGES WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND FEELS LIKE A TUGGING MOTION. THE RPMS AND AMPS GO WAY DOWN AND FEELS LIKE IT MAY STALL THEN IT SURGES AND GETS POWER. WHEN IT GETS POWER IT ALMOST JUMPS FORWARD AND HITS THE CAR IN FRONT WHILE MY FOOT IS STILL ON THE BREAK. IT ALSO JUMPS AROUND AT STOP SIGNS WITH THE RPMS AND AMPS GOING UP AND DOWN. MOSSEY FORD IN SAN DIEGO, CA HAS REPLACED THE OIL AND FILTER AND THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. THEY SAID IT WOULD TAKE CAR OF THE PROBLEM AND IT DID NOT. THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE DOMINANT, PERSISTENT, AND DANGEROUS. THIS WORK COST APPROXIMATELY $300.00, SO DUE TO HIGH COST AT FORD. I TOOK THE VEHICAL TO GREG'S AUTOMOTIVE IN EL CAJON, CA. I THEN REPLACED THE BATTERY AND WAS CHARGED USELESSLY FOR FINDING NO PROBLEMS. AT THIS POINT, I SPEND ABOUT $400.00 MORE DOLLARS FOR NOTHING. THEY HAD A HUNCH THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE TIMING BELT, BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $600.00 JUST FOR THEM TO CHECK. I HAVE BEEN SPENDING HARD EARNED MONEY USELESSLY AND DISREGARDING MY BILLS FOR MY VEHICAL NOT BEING FIXED. I AM SCARED FOR MY SAFETY AND OTHER'S SAFETY WHILE DRIVING THE EXPLORER UNDER THESE UNFIXABLE CONDITIONS. I NEED HELP AND HIGH QUALITY SERVICE TO PIN POINT THE EXACT PROBLEM. I DEPEND ON MY VEHICAL AND MUST USE IT TO GET ME PLACES I HAVE TO GO. MY FORD VEHICAL IS STALLING, DIEING, AND SURGING. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND FORD SHOULD DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM BY RECALLING VEHICALS WITH THESE TYPE OF COMPLAINTS.
REAR LIFT GATE HINGE (WINDOW HINGE ONLY) FAILED. HINGE SNAPPED IN SUCH A MANNER THAT INDICATES CASTING WAS LIKELY BAD AT TIME OF MANUFACTURE OR THAT DESIGN IS FAULTY.
SEAT BELT BUCKLE WILL NOT RELEASE WHEN NEEDED, CAUSING DRIVER TO BE UNABLE TO RELEASE SEAT BELT WHEN NEEDED. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND WAS UNABLE TO GIVE A REPLY.
THE TIRE SEPARATED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. THE TIRE DID NOT DEFLATE AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT CRASHING. IT WAS THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO GET NEW TIRES THE DEALER SAID THAT TWO MORE OF THE TIRES WERE CLOSE TO SEPARATING.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235 75/15 )
WHILE DRIVING ONE FIRESTONE TIRE SEPARATED, CONSUMER PURCHASED FIVE NEW TIRES AND REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT. NLM
ON ABOUT 12/1/97 MY RIGHT FRONT INSIDE DOOR PANEL HANDLE TO MY EXPLORER GAVE WAY. THIS OCCURRED WHILE I WAS EXITING MY VEHICLE. I NEARLY FELL OUT OF THE DOOR. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP (PALMETTO FORD) WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 1995. THE AUTO BODY SHOP FOREMAN TOLD ME THIS WAS A REGULAR OCCURANCE WITH FORD EXPLORERS. HE SAID THERE WAS NO KNOWN RECALL FOR THE HANDLE AND THE PRICE TO REPLACE IT WAS ABOUT $600.00 I CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE BUREAU AND LEARNED THE SAME. THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO HELP ANY FURTHER. I ENDED UP PURCHASING ANOTHER PANEL FOR $200.00 FROM A USED PARTS DEALER. THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 10/03/98 WITH THE LEFT FRONT DOOR HANDLE. IT IS OBVIOUS TO ALL PERSONS WITH KNOWLEDGE OF THIS VEHICLE (CUSTOMERS, DEALERS, AND REPAIR SPECIALISTS) THAT THIS IS A KNOWN HAZARD AND DEFECT. IN BOTH CASES THE HANDLE (WHICH IS FITTED INTO THE INTERIOR PANEL) BREAKS AWAY FROM THE PANEL WITHOUT NOTICE. THIS MAY CAUSE AN INDIVIDUAL TO FALL DUE TO THE SUPRISE OF THE EVENT. ALSO, IF A MAJOR EVENT SHOULD OCCUR AND THE HANDLE DID BREAK DURING THIS INCIDENT, THE CONSUMER WOULD BE LOCKED INSIDE THE VEHICLE UNTIL HE/SHE OPENED THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. I AM CERTAIN ONCE YOU INVESTIGATE MY REPORT, YOU WILL FIND IT VERY ACCURATE AND WELL KNOWN TO THE FORD COMPANY, DEALERS, ETC. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY HAVE CHOSEN TO ALLOW THIS DEFICIENCY TO CONTINUE WITH DISREGARD FOR THE SAFETY AND ECONOMIC HARM TO IT'S CUSTOMERS.

TWO WEEKS LATER, THOUGHT I HAD FLAT ON DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE. TREAD SEPARATED WHILE MOVING. FLAPPING TREAD DAMAGED THE WHEEL WELL LINER (BLACK PIECE). REPLACED TIRE AND TRIM.

WHILE DRIVING THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE BLEWOUT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL AND LEAVE THE ROADWAY, AFTER LEAVING THE ROAD THE VEHICLE ROLLED ONTO ITS SIDE AND SLID APPR. 20 YDS. BEFORE COMING TO REST IN A DITCH, THE PASSENGER WAS NOT INJURED, THE DRIVER COMPLAINED OF NECK PAIN (FLORIDA TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT, CRASH REPORT NUMBER 53648116, BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE P235/75R15 RADIAL ATX M/S, W2HL1M0422). MY WIFE, TWO CHILDREN AND MYSELF EXPERIENCE TREAD SEPARATION ON OUR FORD EXPLORER. THE TIRE SEVERED THE FUEL LINE AND REAR QUARTER PANEL CAUSING APPROXIMATELY $3K IN BODY DAMAGE. MY MECHANIC INSPECTED THE TIRE AND CONTACTED FORD AND FIRESTONE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE HAD BEEN NO DOCUMENTED PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRES. WE DID NOT PURSUE IT. I WAS DRIVING WEST ON HWY 21 FROM NORTH ZULCH, TEXAS TO BRYAN, TEXAS I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES AN HOUR, BUILDING SPEED TO 70. I HEARD A LOUD THUMP AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE . I STOPPED AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL GARAGE WHERE THE MECHANIC CHANGED THE TIRE AND TOLD ME THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE. THE BACK QUARTER PANEL WAS DAMAGED AND THE SIDE MOLDING WAS TORN OFF.MY HUSBAND TOOK THE TIRE TO FIRESTONE WHERE THE MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE TIRE AND SAID HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BUT WE SHOULD REPLACE ALL THE TIRES ON THE VECHICLE. AT THIS TIME WE REPLACED ALL THE TIRES WITH NEW FIRESTONE RADIAL ATX II . THE CAR WAS REPAIRED IN CALDWELL TEXAS AT AUTOFRAME BODY WORKS AT A COST OF 19, 0215.34.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 23575R15 )
ON TWO OCCASIONS (AUG/1998 & MAY/2000) I EXPERIENCED A TIRE FAILURE - TOTAL TREAD SEPARATION. EACH INCIDENT OCCURRED AT HIGH SPEED IN EXTREME HEAT. MY EXPLORER WAS FULLY LOADED WITH PASSENGERS AND LUGGAGE (DRIVING FROM PHX ARIZONA TO MEXICO). FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO INJURIES AS THE TIRES HELD AIR PRESSURE EACH TIME. RETURNING TO HOME IN FLORIDA AFTER VISIT TO TENESSSEE, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON ATLANTA BYPASS, EVERYBODY DOING 75 MPH, FORD EXPLORER WENT OUT OF CONTROL, BEGAN FISHTAILING, HEARD LOUD BANG ON RIGHT REAR AT THE SAME TIME. I WAS DRIVING. THREE TEENAGE CHILDREN AND TWO DOGS WERE PASSENGERS. NOTHING I COULD DO TO STOP THE EMERGENCY FISHTAILING. TRAFFIC BEHIND ME BACKED OFF, VEHICLE ROCKED VIOLENTLY FROM LEFT, THEN SHARPLY RIGHT, THEN SHARPLY LEFT AGAIN, THEN BEGAN TO STREIGHTEN OUT . VEHICLES AROUND ME SAW TIRE PARTS FLYING AND BACKED OFF AND ALLOWED ME TO COAST TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. ON INSPECTION, RIGHT, REAR FIRESTONE TIRE WITH RAISED LETTERS HAD NO TREAD, AND THE STEEL BELTS WERE SHOWING. THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE, AND ALL THAT WAS LEFT WAS THE INFLATED STEEL BELTS. I NURSED IT TO THE NEXT EXIT AND CHANGED THE TIRE BEFORE PROCEEDING ON HOME. THIS WAS A FRIGHTENING SITUATION, AND NEARLY FLIPPED THE EXPLORER, WHICH COULD HAVE KILLED US ALL. WHILE ON VACATION TO MONTANA IN AUGUST 1998, WE HAD A FLAT TIRE, WHICH WE DISCOVERED IN THE MORNING AFTER PARKING THE CAR IN A BOZEMAN, MT, MOTEL LOT OVERNIGHT. WE REPLACED IT WITH A SPARE. WHEN WE TOOK THE FLAT TIRE TO OUR MECHANIC AFTER WE GOT HOME TO WISCONSIN, TO HAVE IT FIXED, HE SAID IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED BECAUSE THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED. WE HAD TO BUY A NEW TIRE. IT WAS HOT (IN THE 80S) IN MONTANA DURING OUR TRIP THERE AND, PRIOR TO THE FLAT, WE HAD DRIVEN SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES AT SPEEDS OF 70-75 MPH, INCLUDING DRIVING OVER A HIGH PASS ON THE IDAHO BORDER AND DRIVING FOR MANY MILES ON UNPAVED ROADS. WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS, THOUGH WE DO HAVE 4 OF THE RECALLED TIRES CURRENTLY ON OUR EXPLORER. PLEASE NOTE, WE BOUGHT THE EXPLORER USED (4 YEARS OLD), CONTAINING FOUR NEW TIRES (THE RECALLED MODELS) INSTALLED BY THE DEALER. *AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
