THE FIRESTONE RADIAL ATX (P235/75R15) TIRES ON THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION AND FLAT PRIOR TO RECALL (00T-005), CONSUMER WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPLACEMENT DUE TO DATE OF FAILURE. *MJS
AT APPROXIMATELY 22,000 MILES, BOTH REAR TIRES EXPERIENCED SEPARATION OF THE TREAD. THE SEPARATION IN EACH INSTANCE CONSISTED OF A SIX INCH BY EIGHTEEN INCH SECTION FLYING OFF THE TIRE. THE TREAD SEPARATED TO THE EXTENT THAT THE METAL CORDS WERE EXPOSED. OBVIOUSLY, THE VEHICLE CHATTERED AND SHUDDERED NOTICABLY UNTIL THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. I DID NOT WANT TO CHANCE ADDITIONAL SEPARATION, SO I REPLACED THE OTHER TIRES AT THE SAME TIME. THE BROKER THROUGH WHOM MY MECHANIC PURCHASED THE TIRES SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R )

THE LIFT ARM SUPPORT BRACKET ON THE TAILGATE RIPPED OUT, CAUSING THE TAILGATE TO FALL CAUSING AN INJURY. ALTHOUGH THE MANUFACTURER ACKNOWLEDGED THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THESE AND THEY ARE AWARE OF IT AND HAVE BEEN REINFORCING THESE, THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR IT DUE TO MILEAGE OVER 60,000. *AK

WHILE DRIVING INTO AN INTERSECTION THE EEC SYSTEM LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF NO ONE WAS HURT REPLACED POWER RELAY NO PROBLEMS SINCE. IT ALSO APPEARS THAT FORD MADE SOME CHANGES ON THE RELAY THEY MIGHT KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I WISH THEY HAD TOLD ME I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AT THAT INTERSECTION. *AK
I DID NOT THINK ABOUT IT AT THE TIME OF THE FLAT TIRE UNTIL THE MEDIA ON THE PEELING OF THE TREAD WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE OTHER 3 FIRESTONE ATXS EXCEPT THE SPARE OF WHICH I STILL HAVE UNTIL THE RECALL HITS THE STATE OF COLORADO. CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALER IN REFERENCE NHTSA RECALL 95I007/MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 95S21, HATCHBACK HYDRAULIC CYLINDER FAILURE. MANUFACTURER STATED THAT RECALL HAS EXPIRED, AND DEALER REFUSED TO TAKE CARE OF RECALL REPAIRS. *AK

WHILE CLOSING THE HATCHBACK LID, THE RIGHT HYDRAULIC CYLINDER BRACKET COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE LIFT GATE. I CONTACTED FORD AT THEIR HOT LINE AND WAS TOLD THAT RECALL #95M87 HAD ELAPSED AND THEIR WAS NOTHING FORD COULD DO ABOUT THE FAILURE. I ASKED FORD ABOUT SAFETY RECALL #95S21 AND THEY SAID THAT WAS FOR PREVIOUS FORD EXPLORERS. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS 1994 EXPLORERS, WHICH THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE LIFTGATE ($2000) WITHOUT A MILEAGE OR DATE CONDITION AND WITH THE NEW RECALL THEY NOW WILL NOT DO ANYTHING? I HAVE CONTACTED 25 OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS WITH IDENTICAL PROBLEMS. THEY TOO CAN NOT GET FORD TO REACT. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM, AS I CAN NOT OPEN THE DOOR WITHOUT THE THING FALLING DOWN. CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING IN A 1994 FORD EXPLORER. CONSUMER HAD AFTER MARKET TIRES ON VEHCILE. TIRE SIZE P235/75R15. PASSENGER FRONT TIRE BLEWOUT WHILE DRIVING 65MPH.*AK CUSTOMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE TIRE WAS SHREDED AND WAS COVERED WITH BRAKE OIL FROM THE BROKEN LINE. THE INCIDENT CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE LINE , MASTER CYLINDER AND SPARE TIRE CABLE. *YH

WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL ON, VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN AFTER LETTING OFF THE GAS PEDAL, BUT ACCELERATED. CONSUMER PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO SLOW DOWN AND TURNED ENGINE OFF. VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN, BUT ACCELERATED AND CRASHED. *AK
SPEED SENSOR IN 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION IS GENERATING JUMPY VALUES; CAUSES CRUISE CONTROL TO SURGE AND FALL TRYING TO MATCH JUMPY SPEED READINGS. SPEED SENSOR ALSO FEEDS ABS, SUGGESTING ABS COULD FAIL WHEN NEEDED. SPEED SENSOR ALSO FEEDS COMPUTER, SUGGESTING ENVIRONNMENTAL ENGINE CONTROLS ARE NOT FUCNTIONING. MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR HAS FAILED 5 TIMES SINCE 1999. VEHICLES STALL AT LOW/IDLE SPEED AT INTERSECTION PUTTING DRIVER EXPOSED TO REAR AND SIDE IMPACTS. DAUGHTERS HAVE HAD NEAR MISSES THIS YEAR AS THEY WERE USING THE VEHICLE TO GO TO SUMMER SCHOOL IN PHOENIX. THE VEHICLE ALSO LOOSES POWER MOMENTATRILY AT HIGH SPEEDS. RPM DROPS BUT IT KICK BACKS UP AGAIN. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, AND USUALL HAPPENS IN THE SUMMER WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GETS HIGH IN PHOENIX, STARTED IN 1999 AND CHANGING SENSORS HAS NOT HELPED - HAPPENS EVERY SUMMER. THE POLICE INVESTIGATION OF THE ACCIDENT INDICATED THAT THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION CAUSING THE DRIVER TO TRAVEL THE RIGHT AND OFF THE PAVED PORTION OF THE ROADWAY AND THE VEHICLE SLIDING IN A COUNTER CLOCK WISE MANNER OVER TURNED AND ROLLED OVER FIVE TIMES. THE DRIVER WAS EJECTED THROUGH THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WINDOW AND THE PASSENGER WAS EJECTED THROUGH THE REAR DOOR WINDOW AS WELL. THE DRIVER DIED AT THE SCENE. I HAVE A 1994 FORD EXPLORER THAT I AM NOT DRIVING ANY MORE BECAUSE BOTH OF THE REAR TIRES BLEW WHILE DRIVING EXACTLY AS THEY SHOWED ON THE NEWS REPORT LAST NIGHT CONCERNING FIRESTONE RECALLING 20 MILLION RADIAL ATX TIRES. THE FIRST TIME WAS AT NIGHT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY WIFE AND BOTH CHILDREN IN THE CAR, WHO AT THAT TIME WHERE 1 AND 5. THE SECOND TIME I WAS ON MY WAY BACK FRON OUT OF TOWN ALONE. BOTH TIMES IT TOOK ALL I HAD TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM TURNING OVER. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPEND I HAD TO SEND THE DESTROYED TIRE BACK TO FIRESTONE FOR THEY TO EXAMINE. THE SECOND TIME I WAS ASKED TO DO THE SAME THING BUT THE FIRESTONE DEALER LOST THE TIRE. I DO HAVE PICTURES HOWEVER OF BOTH TIRES AND THE DAMAGE THEY CAUSED. EVEN THOUGHT I DID NOT HAVE THE TIRE THE SECOND TIME FIRESTONE PAID FOR ALL THE DAMAGES BOTH TIMES. TO HEAR OF THE 46 POSSIBLLE DEATHS IS VERY DISTURBING TO ME TO THINK OF MY CHILDREN WHERE IN THE CAR THE FIRST TIME. AFTER THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPEND I REFUSED TO DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE EVEN THOUGH IT IS A COMPANY VEHICLE AND PART OF MY SALARY, I DECIDED TO COME OUT OF POCKET AND BUY MYSELF A VEHICLE, SOMETHING WITHOUT FIRESTONE TIRES ON IT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I CAN BE OF ANY HELP DURING YOUR INVESTIGATION OF THESE TIRE OR WHAT I SHOULD DO NEXT. ON THE WAY HOME FROM A ROUTINE DEALER MAINTENCE, INCLUDING TIRE ROTATION, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO GO TO FIRESTONE AND I WAS TOLD "THAT THE BELTS INSIDE THE TIRE HAD SEPARATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED."
