WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH RIGHT REAR TIRE TREAD WAS SEPARATED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO FLIP 3 TIMES. DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES. TIRES WERE THE ORIGINAL ONES WHEN VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. I CANNOT READ THE DOT NUMBER, BUT THE TIRES WERE MANUFACTURED IN CANADA. THE FAILURE THAT OCCURED WAS AS FOLLOWS: LEFT FRONT TIRE COMPLETELY DEFLATED AFTER DRIVING ~150 MILES AT 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE 81 IN VA. NO PUNCTURE WAS FOUND, HOWEVER AIR WAS LEAKING FROM LARGE CRACKS THAT APPEARED AT THE TREAD LINE. SIMILAR CRACKS WERE OBSERVED ON THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE, ALTHOUGH IT DID NOT DEFLATE. BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH THE SAME FIRESTONE TIRES ON 6/1/2000. THE REAR TIRES ARE NOW DEVELOPING CRACKS IN THE SAME LOCATIONS.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P255 70R16 )

ALSO, ALL 4 TIRES HAD CRACKS, CONSUMER REPLACED TIRES WITH WILDERNESS AT, AND AT 18, 000 MILES CONSUMER WAS NOTICING MORE CRACKING. *AK *SLC
LEFT FRONT TIRE WENT FLAT WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. HAD ONLY 50,000 MILES ON IT. TOOK TO DISCOUNT TIRE RETAILER, AND IT WAS REPLACED. TIRE WAS DESTROYED. ON OTHER 3 TIRES SIDEWALLS WERE SEPARATING. FIRESTONE, WILDERNESS ATX, P235/75R15. *AK
PE00 020; WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON HIGHWAY AND HEARD A NOISE. WENT HOME AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. NEXT DAY NOTICED THAT HALF OF THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE. HE TOOK VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE, IT WAS THE FRONT LEFT TIRE. FIRESTONE #ATX P23575R15#DOT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.*AK
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY SINCE APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES. NO CAUSE COULD BE DETERMINED BY SEVERAL FORD DEALERSHIPS. AT 109,000 MILES O/D LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING. DEALER DIAGNOSED TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT ($2558). 5,000 MILES LATER SAME SYMPTOMS APPEARED (O/D LIGHT FLASHING). DEALER DIAGNOSED TRANSMISSION AND PCM FAILURE - REPLACED TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY AND REPLACED PCM ($264). 5,000 MILES AFTER THAT SAME SYMPTOMS PRESENTED THEMSELVES (O/D LIGHT FLASHING). DEALER DIAGNOSED TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND PCM FAILURE - BOTH REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUES TO PRESENT ITSELF INTERMITTENTLY (TYPICALLY ON LONG DRIVES). SUMMARY: 3 TRANSMISSIONS AND 2 PCMS FAILED WITHIN 12,000 MILES. *AK

DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT WILL NOT RELEASE FROM BUCKLE. SEATBELT WOULD GET STUCK, AND WILL NOT RELEASE AT ALL. *AK
FIRESTONE ATX TIRE EXPERIENCED AN EXPOSED STEEL WIRE ON THE INNER EDGE OF THE LEFT FRONT TIRE, CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPLACEMENT TIRES AND FOR AN UNNECESSARY ALIGNMENT. *SLC

WHILE TRAVELING ON I-90 AT ELLENSBURG, WA, IN LIGHT RAIN AND A TEMPERATURE IN THE 30'S, THE RIGHT REAR TIRE SUDDENLY FAILED WITH COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION, LITERALLY IT WAS JUST A BALL OF WIRE AND RUBBER. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A TIRE FAIL SO COMPLETELY. THE TIRE EASILY HAD ANOTHER 10,000 MILES OF TREAD LEFT. HAD A TIRE ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE FAILED IN SUCH A FASHION, I WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. AS IT WAS, WE WERE SWERVING OVER BOTH LANES BEFORE WE COULD GET THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AND STOPPED. I WAS SO SHOOK UP BY THE INCIDENT I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO A TIRE DEAL AND PURCHASED A SET OF NEW TIRES AND THEY WERE NOT FIRESTONES! *AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P325/75R-1 )
IN THE REAR SEAT, THE TWO OUTBOARD SEATBELTS DO NOT RETRACT, WHICH WON'T PROTECT THE OCCUPANT IN EVENT OF A CRASH. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
O/D OFF LIGHT FLASHING. DEALER STATES TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REBUILT. VEHICLE HAS HAD REGULAR TRANSMISSION MAINTENANCE, AND HAS MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILEAGE. VEHICLE NOT USED FOR TOWING OR PLOWING. FAILURE SEEMS UNUSUAL CONSIDERING MAINTENANCE & USE. FAMILY MEMBER ALSO HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON 95 EXPLORER AT EARLY STAGE (62,000). *AK
ON 3/10/00 NOTICE A BURNING SMELL, GOT WORSE THROUGH THE WEEK, HAD THE HEATER CORE CHECKED WAS FINE($375). ON 3/18/00 WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE SMELL WAS SSSOOOOO BAD, CHECKED SMOKE WAS COMING FROM BEHIND GLOVE COMPARTMENT, HEADLIGHTS BLEW OUT BUT ALL FUSES ARE FINE, ALSO THE SMELL WAS ALWAYS WORSE WITH THE HEAT ON, NOW THE SMOKE SEEMS TO HAVE STOPPED, BUT THE TRUCK SMELLS SOOO BAD, CAN NOT GET IT IN TO THE MECHANIC UNTIL MONDAY 3/20/00, I SAW THERE WAS AN FIRE EARLIER FROM UNDER DASH IN COMPLAINTS SECTION AND THOUGHT THIS SHOULD BE REPORTED!! *AK
PART IS BACK-ORDERED COUNTRY WIDE. MUST MEAN THAT THERE IS QUITE A FEW DEFECTIVE FUEL LINES WHICH COULD CAUSE A FIRE ON IMPACT DUE TO LEAKING GAS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE SPEED LIMIT TRANSMISSION STARTED TO FALL. CONSUMER COULD ONLY GET UP TO 35 MPH. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. CONSUMER WAS FORCED TO GET ON THE SIDE OF THE SHOULDER. THEN, VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE, HAD TO BE TOWED. *AK *ML

SINCE OWNERSHIP, TIRES HAVE CAUSED VEHICLE TO RIDE ROUGH. CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FOUR FIRESTONE ATX (P235/75R15) TIRES WHEN SEPARATION STARTED TO OCCUR. CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTIFICATION, HOWEVER HAS NOT RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT AS OF 3/25/01. *JB

WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 50 MPH ACCELERATOR PEDAL BROKE COMPLETELY OFF FROM WELD, AND LEFT VEHICLE WITHOUT POWER. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND REPAIRS WERE MADE AT CONSUMER'S COST. *AK

WHILE PUTTING CAR IN REVERSE, CAR TOOK OFF BACKWARDS WHEN CONSUMER TOOK FOOT OFF THE BRAKES WITHOUT PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR. CONSUMER HIT A TREE, THEN PUT CAR IN DRIVE WITH FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE, AND TIRES STARTED SPINNING. FURTHERMORE, GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK LIKE IT WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL, AND CAR TOOK OFF INTO A 3 FOOT RETAINER WALL AND WENT OVER IT. CONSUMR WAS WEARING A SAFETY BELT. *AK
FIRESTONE TIRES EXPERIENCED VIBRATION, THUMPING NOISES, AND A TREAD SEPARATION, THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPLACEMENT TIRES. *SLC
THREE OF FOUR WILDERNESS AT TIRES WERE ORIGINALS. ALL ORIGINAL TIRES FOUND TO HAVE A VISIBLE SEPARATION BETWEEN THE TREAD AND BELT AROUND THE ENTIRE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TIRE. TIRES HAD NORMAL WEAR WITH PLENTY OF GOOD TREAD LEFT; ALTHOUGH, THE TIRES ARE FIVE YEARS OLD AND HAVE 67,000 MILES ON THEM. (DOT NUMBER: VNCU1PL165 TIRESIZE: P255/70R16)

STABILIZER BAR COMPONENT BROKE AND LITERALLY DISINTEGRATED/DISAPPEARED COMPLETELY. NOTHING WAS LEFT BUT THE GAPING HOLE WHERE IT USED TO BE. SHOCK FAILED EITHER BEFORE OR AFTER COMPONENT FAILURE - NOT SURE WHICH OCCURRED FIRST.
WHILE DRIVING STEPPED ON GAS PEDAL AND PEDAL JUST CAME OFF. THEN, STOPPED VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED, AND REPAIR EDAT A FORD DEALER. COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHAT WAS CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. *AK

WHILE MERGING INTO RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE THROTTLE STUCK AT 3000 RPM. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, IT WAS NOT ENOUGH TO SLOW THE CAR. AFTER 1 MILE, THE ACCELERATOR WAS FINALLY FREED WHICH ALLOWED ME TO FINALLY REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. FORD SAYS THIS ITEM IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY EXISTING RECALLS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 60MPH SWAY BAR BROKE, CAUSING CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL. DEALER CONTACTED. *AK
FIRESTONE 7515 GARNERS FERRY RD, COLA SC 29209 DID FOLLOWING REPAIRS:05/22/00 ALTERNATOR, 05/01/00 BOTH REAR CALIPERS & DRUMS, 02/15/00 EET/EEC SENSORS, INCLUDING TEMP SENDING UNIT, EGR VALVE, COOLANT TEMP SENSOR08/07/99 FRONT DRIVER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM, BALL JT, ALTERNATOR AND HORN . I PURCHASED NEW TIRES 09/15/00. I REMOVED GOODYEAR TIRES PULLIAM PUT ON MY TRUCK 08/27/98.
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND THEY HEARD A LOUD THUMPING NOISE, AND VEHICLE STARTED TO VIBRATE. PULLED VEHICLE OVER AND CHANGED THE TIRE. *AK
WAS TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 59 SOUTH IN TEXAS, HEADING TOWARDS HOUSTON WHEN I WAS EXISTING OFF A RAMP INTO A 360 DEGREE CURVE WHEN ALL OF SUDDEN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED AND BLEW OUT. MY FORD EXPLORER VEHICLE THEN SPUNNED SEVERAL TIMES IN A COMPLETE CIRCLES, HOWEVER, DUE TO A RAINY CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A SLIDING CIRCULAR MOITION RATHER THAN FLIPPING THE VEHICLE DUE TO LOSS OF TRACTION. MY WIFE, DAUGHTER, SON, AND MOTHER WERE THE OCCUPANT IN THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS INCIDENT HAPPEND. MY MOTHER WAS JARRED AND SUSTAIN A LACERATION TO HER LOWER LIP AND BRUSING OF HER FACE DUE TO THE SUDDEN IMPACT WITH THE SHOULDER OF ROADWAY AND A DRAINAGE DITCH. ON THE SECOND BLOWOUT OF THE SAME BRAND OF TIRE, I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON INTERSTATE 55 IN MISSISSIPPI WHEN I INCURRED ANOTHER TREAD SEPARATION AND BLOW OUT OF THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WHICH WAS ALSO MADE BY FIRESTONE.. BOTH TIRE WERE PURCHASED IN JULY OF 1998, CURRENT MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE AT TIME OF PURCHASE WAS 72,635 MILES. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THESE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE AND I REPLACED ALL OF THE FIRESTONE TIRES WITH THE BRIDGESTONE DUELLER APT II TIRES. STILL HAVE RESERVATION REGARDING THESE TIRES ALSO BEING THAT THEY WERE MANUFACTURED BY THE PARENT COMPANY OF FIRESTONE.( DOT NUMBER: VNCULPX208 TIRE SIZE: 255/70/S16 )

WAS NOT HANDLING RIGHT. MANAGED TO DRIVE TO FRIEND'S PARKING LOT & CHECKED VEHICLE. NOTICED CONNECTOR BOLT HAD SNAPPED, BUT NOT SEPARATED. 2ND TIME WHILE VEHICLE WAS JACKED UP AFTER THE 1ST REPAIR CONNECTOR SNAPPED AGAIN. WAS IN A PLASTIC CASING. TOOK TO FORD & BOTH BOLTS WERE REPLACED. HAVE THE ORIGINIAL PARTS.*AK
