VEHICLE EXPERIENCING PROBLEM WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS VEHICLE EXPERENCED A SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH. WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL BY SHIFTING OUT OF GEAR. NOTIFIED DEALER AND MANUFACTURER, AND BOTH REPLIED THAT VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A RECALL. *AK
RIGHT REAR BRIDGESTONE DUELER TIRE SUFFERED A BLOW OUT, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL 2 1/2 TIMES, THE EXPLORER WAS TOTALLED, INJURIES WERE RELATIVELY MINOR, OWNER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE (00T-005) 4 MONTHS LATER. CJ
WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS (5 MPH - 75 MPH), THE ENGINE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING FOR APPROXIMATELY 5-10 SECONDS AND THEN EITHER RESUMES OPERATION ON ITS OWN, OR MUST BE RESTARTED WHILE COASTING IN NEUTRAL. SOMETIMES THE ENGINE WILL RESTART EASILY, BUT SOMETIMES IT TURNS OVER SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE RESTARTING. OBVIOUSLY THIS HAS CREATED SOME EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY. LOSING POWER ASSISTED FUNCTIONS (STEERING, BRAKING) AT HIGH SPEEDS HAS LEFT ME WITH LITTLE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM INVESTIGATED TWICE AT A FORD DEALERSHIP BUT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. THEY ALSO INSTALLED A FLIGHT RECORDER ON THE VEHICLE TO MONITOR THE ERROR CODES WHEN THE PROBLEM HAPPENED BUT WERE UNABLE TO FND ANYTHING CONCLUSIVE. AFTER READING THE MANY REPORTS OF STALLING ON THIS WEBSITE I FIND IT HARD TO UNDERSTAND HOW THIS ISSUE COULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A DEFECT AND A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I WOULD TRULY LIKE TO RECEIVE ANY ASSISTANCE OR GUIDANCE ON HOW TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER. IT IS UNFAIR THAT FORD SELLS THE EXPLORER WITH OBVIOUS SAFTELY ISSUES BUT IS UNABLE TO FIX THEM.*AK

WHEN APPLYING FOR AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE IN TENNESSEE (HAVING RECENTLY MOVED HERE FROM MICHIGAN), THE INSURANCE AGENT/ADJSTOR INSPECTED THE TIRES. EVEN THOUGH THE TREAD IS STILL GOOD, ALL FOUR TIRES HAVE A STRESS CRACK ON THE SIDEWALL BELOW THE TREADS. THE ADJUSTOR INDICATED THIS WAS THE FINAL STAGE BEFORE THE TREAD SEPARATES FROM THE TIRE, AND ADVISED ME TO REPLACE THEM IMMEDIATELY. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL FIRESTONE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THESE TIRES HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED; THEREFORE, HE WOULD NOT REPLACE THEM AT NO CHARGE. THE TIRES HAVE 25,000 MILES ON THEM AND SHOULD LAST AN ADDITIONAL 25,000 MILES. I AM GRAVELY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY ON THE ROAD. WHAT CAN I DO? WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, UPON INSPECTION THE CONSUMER COULD FIND NO EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING WRONG, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE DEALER THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT IT SEEMED LIKE ONE OF THE TIRES WAS GETTING READY TO SEPARATE, CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPLACED TIRES. I WAS DRIVING ON I20 AT APPROX. 50 MPH WHEN THE TREAD CAME OFF THE LEFT REAR TIRE, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE LEFT REAR OF THE VEHICLE. (NO INJURY OCCURRED.) I HAD BEEN TO THE FIRESTONE OFFICE IN TYLER, TX TWICE SINCE THE RECALL. THE FIRST TIME THEY LOOKED AT THE TIRES AND SAW THAT THEY WERE ALREADY BEGINNING TO BREAK LOOSE, BUT HAD NO TIRES TO REPLACE THEM, SO THEY PUT MY NAME ON THE LIST. LAST FRIDAY I CHECKED TO SEE WHEN THEY WOULD HAVE THE TIRES. THEY REFUSED TO EVEN LOOK AT THE CONDITION OF THE TIRES THEN, JUST SAID THAT THERE WERE ABOUT 140 MORE AHEAD OF MINE. THEY SAID THAT MY NAME WAS #2 ON THE ATX LIST, BUT THAT WILDERNESS ATS WERE THE ONLY ONES THEY WERE CHANGING OUT NOW. THEY SAID IT WOULD BE 2 MORE WEEKS BEFORE MY NUMBER WOULD COME UP, EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THEM AGAIN THAT THE TREAD WAS ALREADY COMING LOOSE AND THAT I DRIVE 50 MILES A DAY BACK AND FORTH TO WORK ON HIGHWAYS.( DOT NUMBER: VNHL1PM095 TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )

FIRESTONE ATX TIRES EXPEREINCED SEPARATION FOLLOWED BY A BLOWOUT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE INTO OPPOSING LAND AND RUN OFF THE ROAD, AFTER THE CAR RAN OFF THE ROAD THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER NUMEROUS TIMES, INJURIES ARE UNDER REVIEW (ATTORNEY FOR CLIENT). NLM
CONSUMER STATES HE HEARD A STRANGE NOISE COMING FROM FRONT PART OF VEHICLE, HE TOOK VEHICLE IN TO BE INSPECTED AND WHEN MECHANIC PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TURNED IT, THERE WAS A LOUD BANGING SOUND AND THE ENGINE SEIZED, ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC'S REPORT, SOMETHING BEHIND THE TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKED UP AND RUINED THE TRANSMISSION, THE TRANSMISSION, FLYWHEEL AND STARTER MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. *JB
THIS IS JUST TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THE REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM THAT FIRESTONE ANNOUNCED 08/15/2000 THEY ARE ONLY ALLOWING REIMBURSEMENT FOR TIRES REPLACED FROM 08/09/2000 TO 08/16/2000. EVEN THOUGH THE PROGRAM WAS ONLY ANNOUNCED 1 DAY PRIOR TO THE END DATE. THIS DOESN'T SEEM QUITE FAIR.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 23575R15 )
BOLTS HOLDING BACK OF FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT HAVE SHEARED OFF. THIS CAUSED SEAT TO RECLINE BACKWARDS. DRIVER'S VIEW WOULD BE OBSTRUCTED WHEN EITHER ACCELERATING OR BRAKING. *AK
I KNOW LEAKING OIL FROM VENT TUBE IS A LARGER PROBLEM BECAUSE FORD HAS HAD TO HAVE A RETRO KIT MADE TO SOLVE LEAKING OIL. I RECEIVED NO HELP FROM FORD FOR REPAIR COST.
LOCAL FORD DEALER AND FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER HAVE BEEN NON-RESPONSIVE TO CUSTOMER CONCERNS RELATED TO "RECALL"INVESTIGATION. ATTEMPTS TO ASSURE CUSTOMERS CONFIDENCE IS . I HAVE A VEHICLE AND TIRES THAT MY WIFE DOES NOT TRUST AND HAS LIMITED OUR VEHICLE IN TOWN USEAGE ONLY. OUT OF FRUSTRATION DUE TO RUN AROUND BY FORD AND FIRESTONE VENDORS, WE AS CONSUMERS DO NOT TRUST THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY VENDORS BLAMING EACH OTHER. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR RECALL (00T-005) REPLACEMENT TIRES, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THEM WITH MICHELIN TIRES, CONSUMER IS HAVING TROUBLE OBTAINING RECALL REIMBURSEMENT. *MJS
WHEN DRIVING MY 1996 EXPLORER AT 50 MPH ON A HIGHWAY I HEARD A LOUD CLICK AND LOST ALL POWER. I MANAGED TO STEER THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR CRANKED BUT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. MY MECHANIC TOWED THE CAR AND UPON EXAMINING THE CAR FOUND THAT THE CRANKSHAFT WAS BROKEN. HE FELT THAT MY EXPLORER'S CRANKSHAFT HAS A DEFINITE MANUFACTURING DEFECT SINCE THE CAR MILEAGE IS ONLY 28000MILES. HE URGED ME TO CONTACT TOWER FORD WHERE I PURCHASED THE EXPLORER. TOWER FORD ADVISED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY ANYTHING TOWARD THE REPAIR OF MY VEHICLE SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I AM FRUSTRATED. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS ABLE TO ESCAPE INJURY ON THE HIGHWAY AND NOW I HAVE A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 28000MILES WITH A BROKEN CRANKSHAFT -WITH NO HELP FROM FORD. I BELIEVE THAT THE CRANKSHAFT IN MY EXPLORER HAS A DEFINITE MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND FORD NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED.*AK

RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEWOUT WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLLOVER, THE DRIVER WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE INFANT WAS FOUND IN THE DRIVES SEAT WITH SOME LACERATIONS TO THE FOREHEAD (ARKANSAS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION REPORT, BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE, P235/75R15, RADIAL ATX M/S, VDHL1PM096, RIGHT REAR). I ORIGINALLY HAD THE ATX'S ON MY EXPLORER. ONCE THE RECALL WENT INTO EFFECT, I WENT TO A FIRESTONE CAR CARE CENTER IN NASHVILLE (STORE # 028150) AND THEY REPLACED THEM WITH THE BRIDGESTONE DUELERS. I DROVE TO WORK AFTERWARDS GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN I NOTICED A SHAKING IN THE VEHICLE. I HAD JUST HAD A BALANCE AND FRONT END ALIGNMENT TO GO ALONG WITH THE REPLACEMENTS. SO THE NEXT DAY, I TOOK IT BACK AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM TO THE MANAGER. IT WAS BUSY AND AT THE END OF THE DAY SO I SAID I WOULD BRING IT IN THE FIRST THING SATURDAY MORNING. THEY PLACED MY TIRES ON THE BALANCING MACHINE AND I WATCHED AS WE ALL NOTICED A WOBBLING IN ALL THE TIRES. THE MANAGER EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE CAUSE OF THIS HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH WHEN THEY MANUFACTURE THE TIRES, THEY HAVE A LIGHT AND HEAVY SPOT IN THEM. IF THAT HEAVY SPOT IS OFF OR EXTREMELY HEAVY, IT CAN CAUSE A WOBBLE. NEVERTHELESS, I ASKED WHAT AM I TO DO NOW. THE MANAGER STATED THAT I WOULD NOW BE PLACED ON THE REPLACEMENT LIST. I WOULD PREFER TO GO TO A FORD DEALERSHIP NOW, BUT SINCE I ALREADY HAD A REPLACEMENT DONE, I DOUBT IF THEY WILL REPLACE THEM AGAIN. THIS IS WHERE I NEED YOUR HELP. I HAVE ALL THE DOCUMENTATION STATING THE DEFECTIVE REPLACEMENT TIRES. CAN YOU SEND ME A LETTER AUTHORIZING A DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN? OR CAN YOU HELP ME OUT IN ANY WAY OR SUGGEST WHAT ALTENATIVES I HAVE? ALSO, I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY I HAD TO REPURCHASE THE LIFETIME WARRANTIES ON THE BALANCE AND ROAD HAZZARD WHEN I HAD THEM ORIGINALLY ON THE ATX'S. THE ATX'S WERE A RECALL, NOT TIRES THAT WORE DOWN FROM NORMAL USAGE WHERE A WARRANTY WOULD EXPIRE. I KNOW THE BRIDGESTONE DUELERS WERE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE RECALL, BUT THEY WERE MY REPLACEMENT TIRES, AND THEY TOO WERE IMPERFECT AND ACKNOWLEDGED BY THE FIRESTONE CAR CARE CENTER. AS A CONSUMER, I HAVE DONE WHAT WAS DIRECTED BY YOUR ADMINISTRATION. AS A CONSUMER AND A STATE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE, I HAVE GAINED NOTHING BY DOING WHAT I WAS DIRECTED TO DO. HELP ME!
AT 11:00 AM ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 9, BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE (FIRESTONE) AND FORD ANNOUNCED JOINTLY THAT FIRESTONE WILL RECALL APPROXIMATELY 14.4 MILLION TIRES THAT CONTAIN A SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT. BEEN ON A "LIST" FOR SEVERAL WEEKS TO GET MY RECALLED FIRESTONE ATX TIRES REPLACED. DEALER TOLD ME THIS WEEK TO GO FIND ANOTHER DEALER. THIS IS THE ONLY FIRESTONE DEALER IN MY TOWN. CAN NOT GET THROUGH TO FIRESTONE ON THE 1-800 NUMBER. CONTACTED FIRESTONE THROUGHT WEBSITE AND ONLY GET A "FORM EMAIL". ONE OF THE TIRES SEEMS TO BE GOING BAD, DEALER WON'T LOOK AT IT OR REPLACED WITH OTHER BRAND UNLESS I PAY FOR IT. I WANT MY FIRESTONES REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL, WHAT DO I DO NEXT? CAN I HAVE FIRESTONE PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR WHILE MY EXPLORER SITS WAITING FOR REPLACEMENTS? WE STILL HAVE THE TIRE IF YOU NEED TO EXAMINE THE DAMAGE. WE ARE CONCERENED THIS IS PART OF A MANUFACTURING ISSUE WITH FORD AS SOME COMPLAINTANTS HAVE STATED. AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE NECESSARY. IT WAS REPORTED BY MY MECHANIC THAT OTHER EXPLORERS HAVE DEMONSTRATED SIMILAR PROBLEMS. IF SO, WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN ON RECALL BY FORD. IT IS A COSTLY PART AND REPAIR FEE.

BOTH TIRE DEFECTS APPEAR AS LARGE BUBBLES IN THE TREAD OF THE TIRE. THE FIRST TIRE DEFECT BECAME APPARENT THE FIRST TIME THAT TIRE WAS MOUNTED AFTER HAVING BEEN USED AS THE SPARE TIRE ALL OF IT'S LIFE, NEVER HAVING BEEN MOUNTED UNTILL THEN. THE BUBBLE BECAME APPARENT TO ME AS A VIBRATION AND ROAD SLAP NOISE. THE MOST RECENT DEFECT (DIFFERENT TIRE) APPEARS AS A BUBBLE APPROXIMATELY 12" IN LENGTH, APPROXIMATELY 3" WIDE ALONG THE INSIDE TREAD SURFACE. *AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
