AFTER VEHICLE IS TURNED ON HAS TO TAP OR PUMP GAS PEDAL SO THAT ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OFF, AND COULD MOVE WITHOUT A PROBLEM. *AK

FIRESTONE TIRES, SIZE P255/70R16, DOT WS2U 1PX117, HAVE EXPERIENCED TWO FAILURES DUE TO ROCK PUNTURES BETWEEN TREAD, CAUSING THE CASING TO RUPTURE, ORIGINAL TIRES WERE 16" 4 PLY, CONSUMER REPLACED WITH 16" 6 PLY AND HAS NOT EXPERIENCED ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS. *SLC

WE HAVE HAD THREE INSTANCES OF THE FRONT TIRES GOING FLAT OVERNIGHT. THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WENT FLAT LAST NIGHT AND UPON CLOSER EXAMINATION IT WAS NOTED THAT THE TREAD IS SEPARATING FROM THE TIRE FOR A DISTANCE OF APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 6". NO ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED TO THIS POINT BUT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT BE DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND WILL RECEIVE VERY LIMITED USE (UNTIL THESE TIRES ARE REPLACED) IN VIEW OF WHAT'S HAPPENED WITH OTHER FIRESTONE TIRES.*AK (DOT NUMBER: W2UUIPO217 TIRESIZE: P225/70R15)
VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE SPEED CONTROL WAS ACTIVATED. DRIVER HAD TO SHUT VEHICLE OFF TO STOP. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.*AK THERE IS A RECALL (00V422) REGARDING THE PROBLEM THE VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING. *SLC
PERIODICALLY WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER WOULD LET ACCELERATOR PEDAL GO AND THEN BEGAN TO PRESS IT, VEHICLE WOULD NOT PICK UP SPEED. VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL, CAUSING CONSUMER TO PULL OVER. IN ORDER FOR VEHICLE TO START AND PICK UP SPEED, CONSUMER WOULD TURN OFF ENGINE AND RESTART. DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE DEFECT AND WAS NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE REMEDY.*AK *SLC
WHILE COMING TO A STOP, CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKES AND VEHICLE REVVED AND WENT FORWARD. *AK
NEW ENGINE NEEDED. I HAVE HAD FORD REPLACE THE CAM TENSIONERS, ONLY TO HAVE HAD IT FAIL NOW FOR THE 3RD TIME IN 8 MOS. I AM GOING TO REQUEST THE ENGINE BE REPLACED AT DEALER COST, AS IT WAS A RECALLED PART. THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 72K MILES BACK IN JAN 0F '01. I NOW HAVE 90K AND THE PROBLEM HAS REOCURRED. THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER REALLY CORRECTED, SO ITS MY OPINION THAT FORD IS OBLIGATED TO CORRECT THIS. WAS TOLD ENGINE NEEDS REPLACEMENT. HAVE HAD A CONSTANT 'TICKING' SINCE PURCHASED. NOW VERY LOUD CLATTERING AND 'RAPPING' NOISES IN TIMING CHAIN AREA. I WAS TOLD THERE ARE 6 CHAINS ON THIS ENGINE AND THEY ONLY REPLACED THE FRONT, SAYING IF THE BACK ONES ARE BAD, THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED...AND THAT THAT IS THE PROBLEM SINCE THE FIRST 2 REPLACEMENTS HAVE GONE BAD AGAIN.*AK
WHILE DRIVING LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND SIDE DRIVING A ROCK WALL. THEN, VEHICLE STOPPED AND FOUND OUT THAT LEFT FRONT AND LEFT REAR TIRES WERE BLOWNOUT WITHOUT A PRIOR WARNING. CONSUMER SAID IT FELT LIKE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. FIRESTONE, WILDENESS AT, T-255/70R16 109S RADIO. *AK
AFTER SEEING BACK TIRE ON DRIVER'S SIDE SEPARATING TO THE POINT WHERE CONSUMER SEES WIRES IN TIRES, AND TREAD SEPARATING, CALLED DEALER OF FIRESTONE, AND WAS TOLD THAT HE HAS TO SPEAK WITH DEALERSHIP WHERE HE PURCHASED VEHICLE. ALSO, THAT IF HIS TIRE WAS NOT ON RECALL HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR REPLACEMENTS. *AK
I WAS UNABLE TO RELEASE MY CHILD FROM HIS SEAT BELT. WHEN EVERYONE ELSE FAILED TO BE ABLE TO RELEASE THE CHILD, I CARRIED THE VEHICLE (WITH THE CHILD STILL CONSTRAINED) TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER'S BODY SHOP HAD TO REMOVE THE BOLTS FROM THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE TO RELEASE THE CHILD. IF THERE HAD BEEN AS ACCIDENT AND A FIRE, THE CHILD WOULD HAVE PERISHED BECAUSE THE SEAT BELT WAS JAMMED AND WOULD NOT ALLOW FOR RELEASE.*AK
ON 12/18/00-I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO ROMEO FORD,BECAUSE MY MOTOR DIED SITTING AT A RED LIGHT WAITING TO TURN ,ROMEO FORD INFORMED ME THAT SOMETHING IN THE UPPER HALF OF THE MOTOR LET GO AND THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY DID NOT RECOMEND THE MOTOR BE REPAIRED-THAT A FACTORY REBUILD IS RECOMENDED-MY COST WOULD BE 1,600.00-AND THAT FORD WOULD PICK UP THE REST-I THOUGHT GREAT A NEW MOTOR FOR 1,600.00 DOLLARS-I SAID FIX IT-I GOT THE CAR BACK 01/18/01-RUNS GREAT-ON 01/24/01 I GET IN THE MAIL A SAFTY RECALL PACKET FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY-IN THIS PACKET IS A WARRANTY EXTENSION ON THE CAMSHAFT CHAIN TENSIONER-(THATS WHAT LET GO TO KILL MY MOTOR) I THOUGHT GREAT MY NEW MOTOR IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY-I GET MY $1,600.00 BACK! -NOPE- ROMEO FORD -FORD MOTOR COMPANY-WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY EXTENSION-CAN YOU HELP ME?*AK
TRANSFER CASE FAILED WITH NO REASON. THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS NEVER USED. WHEN BEING FIXED THEY FOUND CHUNCKS OF METAL IN THE TRANSFER CASE. IT APPEARED TO BE DEFECTIVE. FORD IS IS DENYING THIS. *AK

TREAD SEPARATION ON INSIDE OF TIRE - STEEL BELT EXPOSED. OBSERVANT MOTORIST AT GAS STATION NOTED THE PROBLEM. TIRES OUT OF LINE ALTHOUGH THEY ARE ROTATED EVERY 6000 MILES AND HAD ALIGNMENT AT 20,691 MILES. WAS AT DEALERSHIP ON 11/3/00 AT 33011 MILES AND NO ONE NOTICED THE PROBLEM. LEASED VEHICLE WITH END OF CONTRACT 7/31/01. WANT OUT OF CONTRACT NOW. I AM SENDING THIS INFORMATION AS REQUESTED BUT MY MAJOR CONCERN IS THAT I HAVE NOT BEEN PERSONALLY INFORMED FOR THE RECALLS TO THE FORD XLT EXPLORER EXCEPT THE ONE FOR THE FIRESTONE TIRES AND THE ONE FOR THE MOTOR OIL PUMP. MY WIFE AND MYSELF CONTACTED BAYAMON FORD DEALER FOR INFORMATION ON OTHER RECALLS THAT APPEARED IN THE NEWS AND NO RESPONSE WAS RECEIVED FROM THE DEALER. COULD YOU UPDATE ME IN THIS ISSUE? SHOULD I CONTACT THE FORD COMPANY? *AK
WHENEVER PLACING CCS SEAT IN MIDDLE OF BACK SEAT, AND WHOEVER SITS ON EITHER SIDE OF SEAT WILL BE TRAPPED. PUSH RELEASE BUTTON ON THE CCS IS TOO CLOSE TO THE SEAT BELT BUCKLES ON REGULAR SEATBELTS, AND CONSUMER CAN'T GET HER HANDS BETWEEN BUTTONS. *AK

AIR CONDITIONER BLOING ONLY COLD AIR DURING WINTER MONTHS HERE IN NY. MECHANIC SAID BLEND DOOR WAS BROKE AND IN CLOSED POSOTION AND THEREFORE ONLY ABLE TO BLOW COLD COLD AIR. NO HEATER, NO DEFROSTER ONLY COLD AIR FROM ALL DUCKS.MECHANIC REPLACED THE COMPLETE HEATER PLENUM BOX ASSEMBLY SHOING ME BROKEN CHEP PLASTIC PART. THE WHOLE DASHBORD CAME OUT AND WAS 2 DAYS OF WORK. COST OF PLENUM BOX ASSEMBLY WAS 160.00 AND BLEND CONTROL UNIT WAS 80.00. THE REST WAS LABOR. FORD GETS 850.00 FOR JOB AS WELL AS 150. TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM.

VEHICLE IS SHOWING SAME SYMPTOMS AS MENTIONED IN RECALL 00V422000 REGARDING 4.0 L ENGINES. THROTTLE IS STICKING AND CONSUMER HAS TO FORCE PEDAL TO MOVE. THIS IS A CONTINUOUS EVENT THAT SEEMS WORSE AFTER CRUISE CONTROL HAS BEEN USED. *AK *SLC
CONSUMER FELT A KNOCKING NOISE ON FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH. THEN, PULLED OVER AND NOTICED A HUMP ON TIRES. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHERE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT TREAD WAS SEPARATING ON THREE TIRES. P235/75R15, DOT W2HL1PY406.*AK THE CONSUMER HAD ASKED FIRESTONE TO INCLUDE THE FAILED WILDERNESS AT TIRES IN THE RECALL LIST SINCE THEY ARE SIMILAR WITH ONES ON RECALL. *YH

I HAVE A 1997 FORD EXPLORER WITH FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES. THESE TIRES DO NOT BELONG TO THE RECALL. I HAD MY TIRES INSPECTED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO BY THE FIRESTONE DEALER. WHO SAID THEY WERE FINE. I KEEP THE PRESSURE IN THE TIRES ABOUT 30 PSI. ON THANSGIVING WEEKEND, WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY I HAD MY REAR TIRE SHREDDED. WE ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF OUR VEHICLE BUT MANAGED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD EVENTUALLY. I CALLED FIRESTONE AND FORD AND WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. I CALLED FORD, WHERE THEY INDICATED TO ME THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TIRES AND ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING INFORMATION ABOUT INCEDENTS. FIRESTONE SAID THAT REAR TIRE FAILURES ARE COMMON , AND I SHOULD NOT BELIEVE IN THE HYPE ABOUT THE TIRES SINCE THEY ARE A SAFE PRODUCT. HE ALSO SAID TO ME THAT FORD EXPLORER'S HAVE A HIGH INCEDENCE OF TIRES FAILING FROM THE REAR LEFT SIDE, AND IT IS A FAIRLY COMMON OCCURENCE. EVENTUALLY AFTER MUCH ARGUMENT, A LOCAL FIRESTONE DEALER HAS AGREED TO REPLACE ONE TIRE FREE OF CHARGE.THIS WAS ONLY BECAUSE WE COULD NOT RETEMINE WHY THE TIRE HAD SHREDDED. IT LOOKED TO BE LIKE THE TRED SEPERATED IN ONE PORTION AND SUBSEQUENTLY TORE THE REST OF THE TIRE OFF. THE FIRESTONE GUY SAID IT WAS NOT THE "TYPICAL" TREAD SEPARATION. HE ALSO OFFERED TO REPLACE MY TIRES FOR ABOUT $500 IF I DID NOT FEEL SAFE WITH THE CURRENT SET. AT THIS POINT I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING MY VEHICLE. NIETHER FORD NOR FIRESTONE SEEM TO FEEL IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO ADDRESS MY FEARS. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS?. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON WHEN WEATHER GOT COLD. THE FORD SERVICE SAID THE THE AIR INTAKE VALVE GASKETS SHRANK AND WAS LETTING IN TOO MUCH AIR AND CARBON MONOXIDE INTO TO THE GAS TANK. I'VE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING WITH TRUCK UNDER 100,000 MILES.*AK

I WAS DRIVEWAY DOWN HIGHWAY AT APPROX 65 MPH. CAR STARTED SHIFTING LEFT TO RIGHT EXCESSIVELY. I HAD ALSO HEAR A PIECE OF METAL HIT THE UNDERSIDE OF MY RUCK. WHEN I REACHED HOME I CHECKED SUSPENSION AND FOUDN STABILIZER BAR HANGING LOOSE. ON RIGHT SIDE. I CHECKED DRIVERS SIDE AND FOUND THAT STABILIZER BAR LOOSE WITH MISSING COMPONENTS AND SLIGHTLY RUSTED. HAD PROBABLY BEEN LOOSE FOR SOME TIME. BOTH ARE CURRENTLYCOMPLETELY DISCONNECTED.

TICKING NOISE IN ENGINE SINCE PURCHASE. HAD THE SUV IN A FORD SERVICE CENTER SEVERAL TIMES FOR RECALLS ETC. HAD ONLY 21,000 MILE AT PURCHASE. WENT TO ANOTHER FORD SERVICE CENTER WITH ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT ON AT 36,200. TOLD I NEEDED THE TIMING CHAIN REPLACED AT MY COST. ACCORDING TO YOUR WEB POSTING A SERVICE BUL. HAS GONE OUT ON THIS PROBLEM LONG AGO. FORD SHOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL . IF NOT FIXED IN OTHER ENGINES THIS WILL COUSE MAJOR ENGINE FAILURE AND MAJOR EXPENSE TO OTHERS. FORD SHOULD HAVE COVERED THIS! MY HUSBAND AND I WERE ON A ROAD TRIP AND GOING 70 MPH AND THE TREAD JUST RIPPED OFF THE REAR RIGHT TIRE. OUR EXPLORER SPORT JUST SWERVED HARD TO THE RIGHT TILTING UPWARDS AND THEN COMING DOWN, THEN SWERVING TO THE LEFT TILTING UPWARDS AND THEN COMING DOWN, ANOTHER SWERVE TO THE RIGHT AND THEN TO THE LEFT BEFORE WE STOPPED. IT WAS READY TO BLOW HE SAID. SO WE BOUGHT TWO. I AM UNHAPPY WITH FIRESTONE RIGHT NOW AND I DON'T WANT THESE TIRES ON MY TRUCK. ALL THE TIRES HAVE THE SAME DOT #. THE LAST REPAIR WAS A THIRD TIME THE FRONT END SEAL HAVE FAILED. THE SERVICE DEALER CUSTOMER SERVICE ATTENDENT STATE THAT HE HAD SIX EXPLORERS THAT MORNING FOR THE SAME FAILURE. FORD MOTOR CO. COULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH INFROMATION REGARDING IF THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURANCE FOR THIS VEHICLE.*AK
MY 97 FORD EXPLORERS PAINT IS CHECKING VERY BAD ON ALL HORIZONTAL SURFACES AND REAR GATE, AND IS TRAVELING DOWN THE SIDES GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE.
I HAVE BEEN INSPECTING THESE TIRES ON A WEEKLY BASIS SINCE THE PROBLEMS WITH WILDERNESS AT'S BECAME PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE. THE SUBJECT TIRE ARE NOT PART OF THE RECALL BECAUSE THEY WERE MANUFACTURED IN CANADA. THIS WEEKEND I NOTICED CRACKING WHERE THE TREAD AND SIDEWALL MEET. IT APPEARS THAT THIS WILL LEAD TO TRREAD SEPARATION. I HAVE REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES. I BELIEVE THAT IT IS TIME FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO FORCE FIRESTONE TO RECALL ALL WILDERNESS AT'S REGARDLESS OF THE SIZE OR THE MANUFACTURING FACILITY.
